Take her! She is a great teacher and she really cares about each student personally in her classes. Read the textbook for quizzes. Pretty much only a 3 speeches, a midterm and a final. She explains everything perfectly, so all you have to do is come to class, pay attention and read for quizzes! Amazing teacher.
Great instructor! Very clear, cares about her students on a personal level. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll do fine. Two exams and three speeches
Lee Anne Hale is the best Com professor at ISU. She truly cares about her students. She is very passionate about what she teaches and loves all of her students. She is very laid back and is really nice. If you have an issue just go to her don't be a jerk and she will accomidate. TAKE LEE ANNE HALE'S CLASSES YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
Lee Anne Hale is the professor you want to have, especially if you aren't good with speeches. She is awesome and gives you a chance at a good grade, even if you're awful at public speaking. She's laidback and genuine.
Lee Anne Hale is nice and helps you with speeches but she is also very mean sometimes. She sometimes makes you feel stupid and isn't very helpful. She's laid back and sweet but can easily offend people. A COM teacher should never make her students feel like that. she's ok.
Lee Anne is very nice and funny. She keeps the class interesting and gets to know all of her students and promotes an open classroom. Missing class lowers your participation points. She grades speeches tougher than some teachers but offers extra credit. The midterm and final were hard because she does not offer a study guide. Overall, I liked her.
Funny teacher, good at gathering the classroom, but actually, even though you don't feel like it, not very good at delivering the material you should know for the class.. Hard grader and horrible assignments
Lee Anne is one of the best professors I've had at ISU. She relates the material to your own life and makes class enjoyable. I learned a lot of life lessons from her. She tries to incorporate everyone's ideas into class discussions and group activities. She made you feel safe so giving speeches wasn't as nerve-wracking.
Lee Anne is the best professor Ive had so far. She is helpful and clear about what she wants. The midterm and final are hard but if you follow clear directions for the speeches you wont have to worry about the tests. She is interesting and willing to listen to student opinions. She felt like a mentor and teacher.
I love Lee Anne. She understands that this class is a gened so she is very lenient on the type of speeches that you give. She simply brings a vibrant atmosphere to the class. Only three speeches and she gives all the information you need, just need to listen. Midterm/final are hard, but just read the text book chapters thoroughly and you'll be fine
She is truly an amazing professor and deserves her chili pepper!
Lee Anne is great! I wish more professors would be like her. She understands most of you probably do not want to be there and she let's you make the class what you want to make out it. The lectures even go a little deeper than Comm which is what is really important
The best teacher you will ever have. She is so sweet and inspiring. She is understanding with late assignments and is very generous if you need help bringing up your grade. It definitely the com class with the least amount of work.
Lee Anne is awesome. She's so understanding, cares a lot about her students and their success. If your choosing between COM teachers, pick HER! Really relates to her students. Weekly online quizzes are kind of annoying because the book COM book is online and it's hard to take notes on chapters. Offers extra credit. Truly an incredible person.
She is a super laid back professor and really cares about her students and helping them learn about the material. Basically zero homework, no tests, and only like 12 quizzes the whole semester, with one project at the end. More than anything she wants you to understand people and gender differently instead of give a ton of work. She is so so nice
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I loved her class and she is one of the best professors I've had at ISU. Clear on grading criteria, weekly tests on the textbook. Buy the book or you won't pass. Discussion based class, and its very interesting information. 100% would take this class again or any other class she taught. Sweetest lady ever and very understanding
Lee Anne is really funny and very genuine. She was my favorite professor this semester. You can easily succeed in her class as long as you listen to her instructions, and check ReggieNet throughly.
Literally the best professor I have had. She is amazing and hilarious and changed my life with this class! It is largely discussion based and she facilitates the most meaningful conversations. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!!
Lee Anne is the best teacher you can get. She is caring, and understand but she also takes the class material seriously. Best teacher at ISU hands down. If you don't take her you're missing out on an amazing opportunity to be taught by her. Loved her so much I took another class with her:)
Lee Anne is great. She is so passionate about teaching Gender in the Humanities. This is that type of class where you will walk out at the end of the semester thinking about how everything you learned is useful and interesting. There is a lot of group discussion but it was always interesting (if you have a class that likes to participate)
Lee Anne Hale is an amazing, passionate professor! Her Com 128 Genders in humanity class is needed!! I hope it stays an option for students in the future. I took this fall of my Junior year and walked out of this class with more knowledge than a class that would've had multiple asignments and tests. Loved this class! Take it!
Lee Anne is great!! Highly recommend her for COM 110! She really cares and goes out of her way to help students and doesn't require a lot from her students like most com teachers do. Lovable person & super funny!! Hope to take another one of her classes in the future!!
Ms. Hale is a caring professor whose feedback helps you grow as a speaker and a student. I had her for an honors section and she helped cultivate a friendly open environment for our small class. The weekly quizzes she gives are pretty easy, and the P2Ps are basically nonexistent. The speeches take effort, but she grades pretty easy. She's the best.
Very awesome professor! Cares about the students and will help you in any way she can. Attendance is not mandatory and very easy on grading. She will help you solve any question you have and make you laugh in class.
She is amazing, inspirational, positive and such a great teacher
Lee Ann is an amazing teacher who lets the class lead the discussion. As well, she is very dedicated in what she does. I would recommend her 100%.
Lee Anne goes above and beyond for her students! I learned the most in her class than any other class, love her :)
Lee Anne is one of my favorite professors. I had her my freshman year, and I really never enjoyed public speaking before her class. After taking this class w/ her, I even considered changing my major from elementary education to communication. She's a real one, and she really wants to see everyone succeed. I'd take another class from her any day.
Lee Anne was one of my favorite professors. I had her for COM freshman year and she was amazing. She is so caring and does everything she can to help her students feel confident and comfortable. I never thought I would feel so comfortable giving speeches to someone.
I normally hate English and everything that comes along with that, but for the first time in my life, I loved an English class, solely because of this teacher.
Very chill professor, very easy class! Definitely recommend! Gives her class plenty of chances to talk and state opinions! Just show up half the time and stay up to date on assignments and you will be great!
Lee Anne was a great instructor! She was entertaining and really cared about students, making them feel comfortable in a speech course. She cared more about what you got out of the course than giving you extremely hard assignments. Overall the class was easy. The only complaint I have is that she doesn't respond to emails very often.
She's a great person but a bad professor. She cares about her students but doesn't put in the effort to explain things. You won't really know whats going on. She gives a final but not a midterm, and you will have no idea what the final will be like. You don't have to show up, the students who do show don't know what's going on so there's no point.
Lee Anne is amazing! Her feedback is very detailed. She is respectful to everyone, and their time. She also really cares about her students. You are able to work with her, if something comes up. Overall shes a groovy lady, and I highly recommend her.
She's a great person, but not a great professor. She lets her personal life affect her work a lot, and didn't show up to class multiple times. She doesn't explain things well, so most of the time we didn't know what was expected of us. We didn't really have any idea what would be on the final. She cares about her students, but she's disorganized.
Lee Anne is a great person but lacks as a professor. She gets all our curriculum done but is not very enriching. She has great advice and is a great speaker but the paper/academic side suffers. She is an easy professor for COM 110 but most of the time you have no idea what is going on and what is due when.
Worst teacher I've ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Currently in her online 128 class. Unclear what is expected as feedback is not given in time before next assignment since it is only a 4 week class. Makes it impossible to get good grades even if you understand the subject matter. Do NOT take. Also, Im sure it is her writing these great, and identical, reviews about herself.
Her 4 week summer class was not organized whatsoever. We would have assignments due before we had any feedback on previous assignments that built on each other. Also, there is a group project where your group mates are randomly assigned.
Lee Anne cares so much about her students! She isn't a traditional instructor/professor, however she is hilarious and accommodating which makes for a great gen ed class. Go to class and participate and she will always help and give good feedback!! Taking her again!
SO confused about the negative reviews on here. Lee Anne is the most understanding, down to earth teacher i've ever had. She tailors the homework assignments/quizzes to each class depending on what your class wants to do that semester. No final, one project but it can be anything there is no rubric. Take any class you can w her you won't regret it
Lee Anne is awesome!! She really cares about her students and it shows. Not many assignments and they're really easy. No tests, quizzes depending on what your class decides. 1 project but it can be anything you want. Most real/understanding teacher i've had. Was having a rough day and she told me if I need to take the day off do it, really cool.
Took this for a gen ed req. and i'm so glad i did. She's my absolute favorite professor at ISU now. Offers as much extra credit as you want to do, no tests, no final, potentially quizzes depending on your class. She's such a gem and very understanding. She's also hilarious. You'll love her so much you won't want to skip, trust me. Makes class fun
Professor Hale is super genuine and makes Com 110 a lot less intimidating. She's super funny and you take a lot of useful life advice away at the end of the course. I would take her classes again OVER and OVER.
She cares a lot about her students and will push you out of your comfort zone when it comes to speeches. Only used the textbook once for a project and managed to get away with not buying the workbook at all. I hope I get the opportunity to take her classes again.
Lee Anne has to be the WORST professor that I have had at ISU so far. She is so unorganized nobody in the class even knows what's going on. Her directions are so lengthy but don't help. She acts bubbly to the class, but in reality she's so focused on anything but us. AVOID IF YOU CAN. It was a semester full of extra stress and unanswered questions
If I could use one word to describe Lee Ann it would be Karen. She is totally the person to ask for the manager and pretend like they're the ones being difficult. She literally had no plan for my class. She stopped it halfway through and told us to plan the rest of it for her because she can't deal with a class that isn't full of children.
I have had LeeAnne twice at ISU. She does not give super clear grading criteria and doesn't always have a plan so if you need someone to hold your hand and spell it out for you, this isnt the prof. for you! She has made me think deeper than any teacher, gives us so much assignment freedom, will work with u, listen to u, and get to know u. Love her!
Lee Anne was the best English teacher I ever had. Very understanding and made speeches seem effortless. Sadly, COVID struck and the class went online. I always looked forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2.
I ultimately had to drop this class because, despite being a communications instructor, Professor Hale is not a very good communicator at all. She does not answer emails with much frequency, and if she does, she usually says that she will help later, only to never follow up again. I would definitely avoid taking her class.
Shes very nice, but super MIA the entire semester. This semester was basically entirely self taught and when she did offer feedback it was always weeks too late. I wish I could get my money back from this class.
Extremely unorganized. Constantly changing assignments around, altering due dates, making things mandatory that weren't to begin with. Very inaccessible outside of class. I've tried to schedule meetings with her and she always cancels them. Said at the beginning of the semester to "not worry about your grade" what kind of professor says this?
This course was not at all taught by Lee Anne. She hands the wheel over to the students with little to no instruction, changes due dates/assignments with no warning, and never responds to emails. Everything in this class felt rushed, unclear, and unprofessional. Probably one of the worst professors and courses I have taken. Avoid if you can!
Prof. Hale did not teach this class at all. You will figure every last thing out for yourself because she will not explain it to you. She makes up the class as she goes and does not even respond to emails outside of class. I did not get a single ounce of feedback until AFTER my final speech. Pick a different professor who will respect your time.
I took this class over the summer and there are 4 tests, most questions can be found on quizlet. The reflections papers can be a bit much. Lee Anne sent an email to me personally halfway through the class to check up on my mental health and to see how I was doing with the class which I really appreciated. She offers a lot of extra credit!
There are not enough words to describe how much I loved this woman. The other reviews are from misogynistic men who should have never been in her genders class, to begin with. 1 group project that takes you 30 minutes to complete and is full of class discussions. No HW, one quiz online, what more can you ask for. Love you Lee Anne <3
Very easy class and she makes you feel comfortable with speaking in front of people. Dont buy the spiral or the top hat book a total waste of money, wish I never got it. The spiral we used somewhat but she always printed it or you could get the pages printed. We never used tophat once.
Your grades won't be on your test or group projects. But, your final class reflection. So, if you are really honest like me and she doesn't like your class reflection she will just fail you because she is salty. 107/110 in grades with a D.
Very little homework, and the only big assignments are a few speeches. While her accessibility outside of class is subpar, when in class she is a very nice and all around good professor. There isn't much to learn in this class outside of how to present a good speech. Ironic that communication is the biggest downfall for an otherwise great COM Prof.
Always tries to help you improve your work in order to get a good grade. Cares very much about her students and is extremely interactive. Helps to force you out of your comfort zone and communicate with other students in the class.
I've taken two different classes with this teacher, and I can say both classes were great. She really tries to help you to the the best of her ability, and really cares about you. As long as you try your best, that's what matters. Don't slack off and do your best and you'll do great.
Throughout this four week course, LA had experienced a lot of technology issues that were beyond her control. But aside from that, when she would reach out about what we had to do it was extremely all over the place and hard to follow. She wouldn't respond to emails and always wanted a million things done, but then wouldn't grade anything/feedback.
Lee Anne is amazing, not only is she great at her job, but she genuinely cares about her students. I have taken 2 of her classes and would take a third.
Lee Anne taught the relational process of creating and interpreting messages that elicit a response. Not only how to communicate but ways that symbolic forms that can be used to identify with people/ persuade them toward a certain point of view. Overall, Com 110 interpreted and gave knowledge on how to communicate with colleagues and more.
Great class, great teacher and I highly recommend taking her class, she is willing to help struggling students and takes her time to explain concepts! My favorite class and teacher I've ever had!
Lee Anne is an amazing and compassionate professor who truly cares about her students. The lack of direction was sometimes frustrating, but if you ask questions, she will answer them. I highly recommend COM 110 with Lee Anne.
SHE WAS GREAT
Lee Anne is a great person and passionate instructor, but she's been through some stuff lately. Her HONORS class was disorganized and chaotic. We got a new professor for weeks 3-7 and then she randomly came back. She DOESN'T answer emails. But my group presentation was a funny disaster and we all got As. Life experience, would recommend.
She was a great professor and I had a fun time in her class. There were not many assingnments so don't worry it was an easy A and I reccomend her to anyone.
Genuinely the most incredible educator. She is so kind and understanding, and grades very loosely. She isn't judging the things you did wrong (like stuttering or getting nervous) in her grading process. Absolutely recommend.
Professor has the potential to be a really good professor. Lee Anne lacks the organization; she seems to let her outside life rule. Lee Anne wanted us to succeed at giving public speeches, she wanted us to not be scared, but the guidelines of the speeches were so loose to accommodate us that I feel I'm not prepared to give a professional speech.
Dr. Hale is one of the best professors ISU has to offer. She is beautifully spoken and a very hilarious lady who ensures everyone in her class always feels involved. She broke down extremely difficult material in a way that everyone in her class could understand. I would take her for every class if I could. She really cares about her students.
Lee Anne has been one of the most impactful professors I've had. Lee Anne understands that we all have a life and we're all going through things, truly cares about every one of her students. She is extremely intelligent in a way that helps you understand things you never thought you would. Truly made an impact on me as a person and student. Amazing
Straight forward, not judgmental, easy projects, no exams. Attendance is taken but not necessarily for a grade
She's great. Just doesn't respond to emails.
I actually took COM 111. Lee Anne was going through some stuff throughout the semester and expected us to give her all of our grace meanwhile people would email her about family traumas and she wouldn't even answer. No structure and she canceled class constantly which got old quick. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Lee Anne is very sweet. She does cancel class often and is hard to reach outside of class but honestly show up to class and do your 3 speeches and you will get an A. You grade yourself at the end of the semester and that becomes your grade (not how most com classes are). She is very forgiving and does not grade your speeches only gives you feedback
I was scared of com since it is speaking in front of others, but Lee Anne did a great job creating a welcoming and safe environment. No textbook was needed, and the only grading assignment was at the end of the course where you would grade yourself. She did however cancel classes at random times throughout the semester due to personal reasons.
I would marry this woman if I could. She did an incredible job of breaking down extremely hard material for us. She really really cares about her students!
SUCH an incredible teacher and person.
no graded assignments, SUPER caring (she stood at front of class w me when i was freaking out during a speech lmao), funny, would definitely take it again. class is canceled somewhat frequently for medical reasons.
Lee Anne was a wonderful person who truly cares about her students and their well beings. Class was canceled a fair amount of times due to personal things which left us behind in class. Also on these days few clear instructions were not given which left the class disorganized and in a frenzy. Lee Anne made this speech class enjoyable to go to.
Took her for speech at heartland and Com theory at ISU. Very funny and also cool lectures. She knows what she's talking about. Class was super easy, as in you literally grade yourself at the end. only thing is I wish she was better organized at times.
love this woman as a person, but super unorganized, so if you don't thrive with that, she probably isn't the professor for you. other than that, she's amazing and cares about every student so much
Lee Anne was honestly the best com teacher I could have asked for. She is a very relatable person which makes her communication skills even better. She has a way of easily opening the room up and brings the class together. She is a little kooky and kind of spazzy which makes her teaching style even better.
Lee Anne is a great person, but when it comes to teaching, she is very unorganized. She doesn't give assignments, just hard tests. Her syllabus doesn't follow the course at all. This class is just a wild card; if classes are a stressor and you need structure, I would avoid taking it with her.
Lee Anne was such a joy to be around and learn from! While I loved her and did great in the class, she was a bit unorganized and sometimes unreliable. We were always a bit unsure of when/what assignments were due, which came with both its pros and cons. Aside from that, she cares so deeply about her students and makes them feel seen and heard.
Lee Anne is the nicest and funniest professor at isu. She really cares. She is a little unorganized and cancels class a lot due to health issues. The last month of class was very stressful and very chaotic because we had to catch up from all the cancelled classes. Lee Anne is great though and made class very fun. I never dreaded going to her class
Lee Anne is an absolute wreck, where do I begin. Arrives late to class everyday, gets mad when we dont show up but has cancelled class 1/2 the semester, hasn't entered a single grade into canvas (we have 1 week of class left), assigned us two speeches in two weeks so we had 0 time to prepare, I dont have enough room to finish, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
This class has been a disorganized mess. Nothing is graded, speeches are dumped on us last-minute, class is constantly canceled, and there's zero communication. It's clear the teacher doesn't care. This was a joke of a class and a total waste of time. She made everything more confusing than it needed to be. Do not take this class unless u wanna kys
Lee Anne is the most compassionate professor I have had. She clarifies that she is not just a professor but also a human. She built an entire course calendar to accommodate our schedules and what worked for her students. The class is so impactful as well, and should be mandatory. Yes, she may cancel, but all for valid reasons, such as emergencies.
In all my time at Isu ms. Lee Anne was one of the greatest teachers I ever had, She was so kind and caring and made an effort to get to know the students. Although I hate public speaking she made it somewhat bearable.
lee ann was a terribly unorganized teacher. we still don't have our final grade either. She made multiple people do there final speech WITHOUT HER BEING IN THE CLASSROOM! complete mess do not take her class!!
such a mess do not take this class with her unless you want to be stressed 24/7
Lee Anne is a nice professor, however she is EXTREMELY unorganized. She often comes to class late, and has canceled several times. There is no structure. Everyone had a 100% in the class until about a week before finals, when she started adding grades. Our final wasn't great, and we barely covered the material on it. No clue what grade I'll end at.
litterly a mess. Mind you school is already done and we are on break but she still hasn't released our final grades yet. Stay away from this teacher. She came to class late litterly half of the semester . HORRIBLE
0/10. If you can take this class with another professor do it because she's horrible!!
She is a great and understanding professor. She can be unorganized at times, but I did not mind, and she gives students so much grace.
I like her class a lot. pretty easy you just give 2 speeches by yourself and then a group speech. she can be a bit unorganized, but it really doesn't affect the students at all. really nice lady. would take a class of her again if given the chance. very funny and is a good person
eeehhhh prepare to not know ur grade, question when your assignments are due, and get zero's on some assignments because you need to have information from her to complete them that she didn't give you....... The class is kind of hectic and you have to guess what is gonna be due and what you have to work on because she will not tell you.
As a professor, Lee Ann is unorganized. She often came to class late and had trouble keeping up with grading. But, as a person, Lee Ann is incredibly caring, and it is obvious she wants each and every one of her students to succeed. Just be aware that she is a little frantic, and if a strict routine is your thing, then Lee Ann may not be for you.
Lee Anne is a fun, supportive professor who truly cares about her students. Her funny tangents make class engaging, and her feedback really helps you improve your speeches (because it's a speech class duh). She's approachable, encouraging, and creates a comfortable environment to grow as a speaker.
Lee Anne is one of the greatest professors I will ever have. I enjoyed her class so very much, I looked forward to the 3:00 class I had. Yes, she is behind on grading and I bit disorganized but as a single mother of three she's truly gives everything to her classes. She's incredibly flexible with you IF YOU COMMUNICATE.
