Bailey teaches nothing from the textbook. All the things he taught in class, you have to learn it from somewhere else. The textbook will not help you do well in the course. His tests and quizzes are tough. Bailey's office hours are a huge joke. He has office hours right after lecture and it is so difficult to ask him questions.

He has no patience for students talking, though it is understandable. His reactions to students can be quire rude. He lacks social skills and is not very charismatic. Everything he teaches in class are HIS methods of doing things which can be extremely confusing specially when he slaps you with a quiz WORTH MARKS a minute after he teaches a concept

Bailey does a lot of examples in lecture. Whenever he does examples, he pull numbers out of his rear end and it is so easy to get loss in his lecture. He sometimes write things on the board, stand there and smirks. Or, he sometimes write things on the board and quickly erases whatever he wrote. It is like "OH CRAP! I made a mistake. FORGET IT"

Worst prof. Extremely rude and gets mad if anyone makes any sounds in class. He runs over stuff extremely fast so you can forget about writing anything down. Rushes through most concepts and follows that by assigning in class quizzes that are worth marks.

Useless prof, worst on campus by far. Course structure makes no sense. Tutorials are graded so you hand them in and never see them again, same with tests. Only feedback you get is a % grade. Tests never reflect what is taught in class or mystat lab. You learn half the material in excel but the exam is entirely written. Avoid at all costs!

Learned my lesson to look up my profs before taking them. This is by far the hardest course I ever took. Textbook not helpful, lectures new content not found in the textbook (mainly algebraic calculations). Avoid this class TRUST ME. There are other eco profs that are much easier. They say that Bailey prepares you for upper year economics, but how can how can you get into 2nd year if the drop-out rate for your first year class is more than 50%.

this professor did not teach in summer, all is teamwork, he think we are genius and alive every question he gives us, I also took his eco100, this is no reason to teach second year content in first year in order to increase the difficulty. He did not respect students. I went to his office hour, and he never respected me.

Talks too fast. He expects you to read the chapters ahead. Doesn't use all the materials in the textbook, he sometimes also teaches things outside the textbook. Kicks people out of the classroom if he/she is not focusing or taking pictures of his notes on board.

The worst professor I've had the misfortune of having a class with. I begged the office of the registrar to switch my class out. Incredibly confusing, expects too much of his students, and very hard to follow during lecture. He expected us to have 3 chapters read before the first lecture, for some odd reason. Would never take again.

Does not elaborate on theory, just has you doing math algorithms that you just memorize and don't truly understand. You leave lectures with only numbers in your notes, it's as if we are taking a different course. The TAs are lost just as we are most of the time. And is incredibly selective with who he helps, mainly Asian/attractive girls

Worst professor i'very ever had. Came 5 minutes late to do a test in a tutorial which is 8-9 am in the morning and he took a picture of my t-card and whoever else came late probably to penalize me. I found it extremely hard to take notes in his class because he kept jumping all over the place and adding things to concepts he discussed previously.

This is the class you will study the most for and still do the worst in.

Grades awfully, does nothing to prepare you for Macro- courses. Try to attend a class taught by a prof, not a lecturer.

Worst prof by far. He never explains the concepts clearly, teach in a very fast speed, often finish classes half-hour earlier than it should be, and there are lots of works to do(iclicker, MEL, MCQ). Even though I spent more time studying this course than any other courses, and try so hard to understand the materials, still get a very low grade.

He shouldn't be considered a professor, just merely a lecturer. Besides only having a Masters, he offered no insight into what Economics is and rarely made any real world connection. It was simply an algebraic course, which he made more difficult than necessary because of his unclear, inconsistent and just plain lazy style of teaching.

His claim that your ECO100 professor and grade is evaluated by potential employers is laughable and a pathetic attempt of feeling significant. A high school economics course will teach and excite you more about Economics. I consistently scored in the top bracket of the class, but have gained little value besides earning a grade.

Shouldn't be teaching at UofT (top 20 school) as he can easily be replaced by a middle school algebra teacher. He wastes most of lecture having us mindlessly solve for xs and ys without emphasis/elaborating on the concepts behind the math. Not to mention, he rushes and cuts lectures short depending on his mood ( an hour early on Thursday)

His elitist attitude stems from his pride of teaching at UofT (he makes this evident) However, he diminishes the prestige of UofT. What other professor refuses to engage in critical discusssion with curious students about their respective field? To Bailey, his meaningless cirriculum holds significance, only because it's HIS. Go to a real prof.

If you like economics take another Prof, Bailey does not teach economics. What he does teach is slope functions and nothing else. Often times he will get the numbers wrong and it's up to you to figure it out. You will spend 8 hours in the library deciphering his lectures and they're worthless after you're done his course.

Every two weeks he takes a giant dump on your term test and it's your job to clean it up. He will not help you despite saying he will. The tutorials are useless as are his office hours. You will realize you paid $1000 to learn slope functions and only reason it's hard is because he refused to teach it well to justify the difficult of ECO100

What a character; get ready to go through pain, suffering, and many frustrations. You will fall in love with him, and get to hate him at the same time. Just to realize at the end that he is, indeed, you sole owner and master. And that whatever you do, it will not matter since he has YOUR future in his hands. His course requires THICK SKIN

This is the hardest first year class on the face of the earth. If you are not convinced, then PLEASE take his class and come back to this page later. Only teaches basic definitions in his lectures but tests are on calculations, he thinks writing speed > speaking speed. Do not take his classes, he tries to convince you in the first few lectures that he's prepping you for the future, so basically a disclaimer that he's not gonna teach you.

I loved economy in my high school, but now it became my nightmare. I even dreamed about the iclicker and I was scared to wake in midnight. During the first class, he said, " I don't measure my success based on your happiness." I should learn sth from his saying and drop the course in the 1st week!! Now I am regretting and upset about my hesitation!

Absolutely terrible professor. Wasted a lot of time studying for his class - not because it's particularly difficult material, but because he insists on wasting everyone's time by skipping over concepts in class that he later test. Ended with an A in the class, basically learning everything by myself, so it's definitely possible. Avoid if possible.

Bailey's economics is a really tough class. He even said so himself. I respect the fact that he made it tough to prepare students going to second-year courses/programs and onwards. Want to pass? Read before lectures, attend lectures and tutorials, do practice tests, participate in iClickers (make sure you get them right!), come to all tests.

The course itself is not difficult if you take the time to study but prof l. Bailey makes the class itself difficult. As his lectures are hard to patient to luckily enough most of the content comes from tutorials anyways. The class would be a bird course if it wasn't taught by Bailey.

I would like to start off by saying how fascinating of a class ECO100 is -- especially for those with an interest in both macro and microeconomics and the various models that quantify the theories. Unfortunately, Bailey is THE most incompetent professor at UTM; his inability to lecture properly paired with his demeanor makes his classes AWFUL.

Worst prof at UTM, and it's not even close. Calls himself an economist but fails to explain how any of the lengthy equations he uses actually apply to the real world. He treats you like a kid despite expecting you to work at a third-year level. He sprints through his lectures and refuses to repeat himself. Skips over content that he tests heavily.

Dont bother buying the textbook completely useless, does not provide any feedback on test or show solutions to similar questions. The TA's are the only thing that will keep you from failing. This year alone kids enrolled in econ went from 1500-> 500 by exams. Not worth wasting a year take it in the summer.

The second lowest mark on my transcript is a B as of third year. Prof Bailey is absolutely the worse prof you can have. Currently torn between retaking or just taking the pass and moving on. You'll need to dedicate your life to his class because he wants your soul but at the same time you won't learn anything because you'll only be memorizing

Lee Bailey is absolutely awful professor in every way you can think off. He kicks students out of his office hours and lectures so unless he is in good mood don't bother to him. This man really has no mercy. I-clicker answers are worth almost 10% of our grade. What he does put one i-clicker question at the very first minute of class which this year was at 8:11 am. He will putting random i-clickers throughout lecture on topics he is currently teaching. Like am I supposed to take notes, pay attention, or solve the question.

I've taken many ECO courses w different profs at UTM and UTSG. Bailey is by far the worst. ECO200 with Bailey was brutal, the tests had no part marks awarded on a math intensive course. This is the most brutal way to mark a class that revolves around equations. There was a huge emphasis on the final answer. He will also not reply to emails.

Although I got a 4.0 I will not recommend him under any circumstances unless you want to sign up for torture. Its not impossible per say but close to it he just makes it unnecessarily difficult. He hired three of his students from his ECO100 class last year to TA the course this year. Put two and two together

UTM graduate. He is not a good professor. He also has a HUGE Napoleon complex and had hissy fits in class. I don't know why he is even kept on board at all. His exams are intentionally over complicated and a mess. You don't come out better because after a 3 month summer break you forget the material anyway and you relearn it in upper years.

I just started this course and I'm already exhausted... The flashbacks of eco100 are crawling in, the mental pain and disparity of being Bailey's student. This professor sucks the life out of students. 3(!!!) chapters due on the first day of classes, 6 pencasts and 2 classroom activities... on the first day! What the hell are you thinking Bailey?!

Avoid if you are triggered by verbal abuse, belittling or aggression. For example if a professor says pens down and when the T.A. comes to collects quizzes and you ask to write your name but he thinks youre writing when hes asked you to stop hell come snatch the quiz and tear it up in front of everyone. May not impact most people though.

The lectures aren't that bad but u have to read the textbook to understand lots of concepts bc he ONLY goes over the math in his lectures. His tests on the other hand, TERRIBLE. Gives u 45 mins and throws u curveball questions worth 50% of the test that you've never even seen before. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I beg of you, don't take his class. Please. It ain't worth it, and half the class is wondering whether they should drop out at this point. He does not teach well, if you miss even one class your grade drops and it's a pain to bring it back up. Go for another professor. This man makes me hate life.

I did well because of a heavy curve but honestly not worth the pain. Tests boil down to high school-level math problems, but you got to find the math problem in the question. Only problem is you can only figure that out through lecture and he speeds through it and you can barely keep. Also very inconsistent remark process.

The only notes you have are the ones you take in class, won't find them anywhere else. He won't let you take pictures of the things he writes in class, would classify those as AO (which it can't be as other profs allow it). Don't get answers to practice problems and so you simply don't have enough to prepare for exams.

I don't know why he made the second term test so hard and there were only 10 marks but worth 20 percent. Most of the students screwed up with the test. The final exam was much easier and I finally passed the course. But this is not the grade that makes me satisfied.

Had I known about RMP before settling my schedule, I would have never WILLINGLY chosen to take Bailey's class. He hardly repeats himself, even after being asked to. He doesn't use the microphone, so good luck hearing him properly, and being in his section of this course is the WORST mistake I have ever made. Be smart and save yourself.

Lectures are horrible, the TAs teach better than him. Lack of resources to study for the test, forces u to buy a 100 dollar textbook that isn't even useful for studying. Do not take this CLASS. Take Aaron instead. Bailey does not care about you. If you are taking this class and expecting a balance between Theory and Math, you're wrong! He doesn't give his students the opportunity to do well in their areas of strenght such as by offering balanced examination. DO NOT TAKE HIM(Espacially if you're first year).

If you want a good GPA, do not take him. He is awful. His lectures do not make sense. If you check previous exams, you will see the difference between Bailey and Aaron. My friends who have Aaron do not understand his previous exams. Trust me, you will regret taking him over Aaron. Even my academic supervisor told me to waitlist for Aaron.

There is absolutely nothing to learn from other than the lectures he gives. He creates his own tests so trying to learn anything from the textbook and hoping to apply it on the test is a futile effort. There are no additional practice questions or anything. The best I was able to do alongside my peers was restudy past lecture notes and hope.

Don't get why a school would hire someone like this, his classes are horrible. You learn nothing, only if you attend the lectures. Even those lectures that he gives are not the greatest. He creates horrible test so trying to learn any other material from the textbook and trying to apply that into the test (Good Game). Don't take !

He told a student to 'shut up' and took his phone out to take a photo of a student in front of everyone who took photos of the lecture slides as he said taking photos wasn't allowed in the first lecture. The tests are a duplicate copy of tutorial questions. Its memorising patterns and not learning economics. Horrible prof.

Doesn't care about teaching or students. No readings, slides, etc. Lectures are awful and he loves insulting students. Grading is harsh. Simply 100% for getting a correct final answer and 0 for an incorrect final answer. In a class like eco101, it's easy to make calculation errors. If you make any, Bailey will give you a 0. Don't take.

There's two things he teaches in class. Firstly he teaches economics as an economics teacher, and he also teaches "maths". But funny enough, he is extremely incompetent in both of them. With economics, he teaches things that are unnecessary, and with the "maths" side of it. My god. This guy is worse than a first grader at maths. Always messing up.

This professor is genuinely miserable with his life.. if he catches someone taking a photo of his notes he will hold up our class to pull out his phone and take a picture of them then submit it to campus security.. mind you there is no posted notes or readings just some empty worksheets...

Most traumatic university experience. The worst lectures possible, if he writes something on his iPad that's important, he'll erase it immediately. You'll be able to make no sense of your notes after lectures. Tutorials are the only help in this course. There's barely any economics it's just memorising questions from tutorials. Switch ASAP.

Received the lowest grade of all course grades in this semester. I would rather take Aaron's class earlier instead. Hopefully no more his classes next year.

He disabled the chat during class so none of us can ask questions. Doesn't reply to the piazza. Doesn't let students email him. He gets the TAs to host his office hours. Just horrible.

Puts very little effort into teaching. Super test-heavy, and he emphasizes doing extreme prep before class only to arrive with outdated material every single time. He def goes out of his way to bully students. Take super detailed notes during lecture. Tuts and lecs hold equal importance on the tests and he loves using surprise questions.

Lectures leave you more confused then when you came in. Expects you to pre read the entire textbook section beforehand each week. Rushes lectures and doesnt explain things thoroughly, leaving students who havent pre studied the content lost. The tests are easy if you study, with straightforward questions. Essentially a self taught course though.

I enter his class expecting to learn something but end up more confused when I leave. You're expected to read a whole chapter of textbook before each lecture every week. L prof, pls retire and never come back

Each lecture represents a chapter of the textbook. Miss the lecture, you basically have no idea what you're doing at all. Bailey speaks fast, doesn't repeat himself, doesn't take questions during lecture, and is very unhelpful and unsympathetic when the online quizzes have glitches outside of your control. Very low chance of doing well on tests.

Spoke very fast, did not help students. Do not take this class.

Worst professor on the campus, by far and away. Tragic. Horrible attitude. Horrendous "teaching", fragile ego, superiority complex, and the list goes on. If you have a passion for Econ, don't take Lee Bailey. He will sap that straight from your soul and make you not want to touch the subject with a 6-foot pole. Good luck.

This guys trolling.He teaches econ in such a unique way that you will not equip any useful skills and you'll probably switch to DEM. you're gonna be getting absolutely cooked in his exam and youll catch a glimpse of him grinning like hes some sensational villian. youre gonna flop ur gpa and not make post so skip his course take the other professor.

A very, very large portion of class time was spent on the instructor's personal complaints. I guess he figured that the healthiest coping mechanism was projecting his fear of aging onto first year students by being insufferable. He has done nothing but inconvenience us, and he is one of the worst teachers I have ever had the displeasure of knowing.

I thought the blues jays losing the World Series would be the most painful thing I would have to endure this year little did I know that I would get metaphorically penetrated by Mr Bailey and eco 101 thank you Mr Bailey for doing irreparable damage to my overall wellbeing

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

His course demands that you show up in person because its designed to make self study as difficult as possible (no notes or solutions to handouts posted online). Even if you do show up, things are often not clear and the most difficult parts of the course are not covered in the textbook. Uses mylabs, but won't allow emails if you have any issues.

You are expected to teach yourself the whole course. He's mainly there to ruin your mental state and allow you to realise, some people truly are awful. I was forced to take his course my first term and will be next term too. If you don't pay attention in lecture for 2 minutes you may as well leave at the rate he goes. No breaks in 2 hr lectures.

NO. RUN AWAY FROM HIM!!! you literally learn no concept, just memorize the graphs and how to compute them. think you'll understand it if you look it up online? the way he does it vs the way everyone else does it is different. some of the TAs are 2nd years who can't answer you the damn equilibrium if you asked them.

I enjoyed ECO101 and did well on midterms, but lectures were just note-copying. The professor is intimidating, and the 2025 final was unfair—much harder and unrelated to class material, unlike past exams. I studied a lot, yet the final felt impossible and poorly aligned with the course. It was UNFAIR MORE LIKE FAVORISTISM WITH OTHER CLASS 2023.

This man is EVIL, he does NOT want you to learn he wants you to memorize steps and give you insane variations of the questions. The Class is genuinely is SO easy, but he wants to make it hard, no notes given, incomplete inclass questions, if you do have him it depends on his mood of the class, if his mood is good, he'll teach if not its useless lec

This prof does not care about his students in the slightest. Only chance you have in his class is having done economics prior to his teachings. Lectures are unclear & rushed, he degrades his students' intelligence, and all complaints about him from students are ignored by both the school and himself. However, tests are fairly similar to tutorials.

Take Bailey if you don't like yourself

Unnecessarily makes his lectures some of the worst experiences at university. This course could be so much better if it was taught by literally anyone else. Aaron is much better for 101/102, so you're better off in pretty much all facets compared to Bailey.

An opp. He takes pleasure in putting down his students and making sure they know they don't belong at UofT. Of all the classes I've taken I haven't dreaded waking up to attend the lectures of any of them nearly as much as Eco101 with Bailey. he refuses to teach in lectures and expects you to know it all. Take eco 101/102 w Aaron at all costs.

Absolutely the worst experience ever for any professor. Avoid him at all costs, he's a professional hater and enjoys tormenting students. Tells students they don't belong at UofT repeatedly. Please do not take his class. His exams are very unpredictable and there is almost no space for partial marks. He incomprehensibly teaches only graphs.

Lee Bailey does not teach in his lectures and expects his students to know everything. He rushes the material and complicates it on purpose. The final exam was extremely difficult. This prof teaches in a condescending tone and makes annoying comments. Bailey is rude, take Aaron's Eco101 and 102 instead of Bailey. Get on Aarons weisbord's waitlist.

Professor Bailey has a reputation for good reason, it is common to leave his lectures with more questions that answers and he expects you to have a PhD in economics before you walk into his class. He also uses borderline unethical teaching methods that include verbal abuse, fear-mongering and setting extremely unrealistic expectations.

From finishing high school with 90s overall, including Economics. I can confirm that these reviews aren't exaggerating. I found it difficult to keep up with lessons as he would go nonstop during lectures with no breaks, + much more. The days I would walk to his class, I wouldn't look both ways before crossing the road, hoping a car would hit me.

Terrible prof. Not very caring and his lectures are very useless. Always refers to the textbook as if it was the only thing we have to read.

Honestly, he is one of the worst professors at UTM and genuinely degrades students and does not teach or care at all. Please do not take economics with him, as you will not learn anything and just memorize baseless formulas. If you want to save yourself from having mental breakdowns or stress, then don't take any class with Bailey.

Extremely condescending. From the complete absurdity that two sections have completely different tests and expectations, to the fact that in his words he "avoids all communication with students" and asks to "not be emailed", I have never had to take a worse coordinated course.
