Class is mainly notes from Powerpoint. No HW. Four in class writing assignments and 4 exams & a final. Grades pretty easy. She makes the class seem to be harder then it really is. Does EC usually on the review day before tests. Took attendance the first couple days then stopped.
Her lectures are easy to follow (she uses powerpoint). The in class writing assignments were based off the reading materials but it was open book so sometimes I read the material for the first time as I wrote my essay. The book she uses is a compilation of articles and historical documents. Take her class!
Fantastic non bias teacher that makes learning politics fun and easy
Her internet class was... bad. It was an easy class but gave way to much work for a late start class. Had to watch hours of power points and then had to do 14 quizzes, 3 exams, a final, and about 20 writing assignments and about 8 discussions. Way to much given for a late start class. Take her on campus class!!!!
Everything was taught very clear and did a good job of explaining things and answering questions. Leaves her opinions out. She's not one of those professors who tell you whats wrong with the world and stuff. The other ratings for the on ground class are pretty accurate. Good Professor. Take this class.
Took her Online class this semester and it sucked!!! She grades very hard on her 21 written assignments and in an 8 week course that is a lot. Has lots of quizzes and you only get like 5-10mins to take them. The Tests are not that hard if you use your quizzes but you do not have much time bc you only get 30 minutes to answer 40-50 questions.
Great teacher, always made sure you knew the material and was happy to go over anything that was unclear. There are 3 tests and 2 inclass essays that are moderately difficult. One 10 page project but you get to work in a group of 3 if you want. I would reccommend this teacher if you're interested in Political Science
I took her online class and she gave an insane amount of work. there is no book and you literally sit at your computer for hours staring at powerpoints and listening to her lecture. she doesnt cover everything thats on the quizzes and many of the written assignments are vague and have nothing to do with lectures. on top of that, shes a tough grader
She's a great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory. She's very interesting and knows her stuff, it made me really interested in the course. You do get a bit of work... but you can do it fairly easily. I'd take her again.
I'm wrapping up her online class and have actually really enjoyed it. There are a LOT of lectures to listen to but she is very clear and non-partisan, it was actually interesting and if you listen to the lectures & take notes, the quizzes are not hard at all. She's very fair & helpful, repsonds quickly to emails. Definately would take her again.
This teacher is great but the online class sucked! She presents the material well and makes it easy to understand but she assigned waaay too much work for an 8 week class. There were about 20 essays and she grades hard. If you think this is an online class that will be easy, it's NOT. Dont take this class unless you are prepared to do a lot of WORK
I took her online class, and I learned quite a bit. If you expect to work hard and have a guaranteed A, this is not the class for you.
Her class is not the easiest in the world but she is a fair teacher. She is eager to help you if you try. 3 in class essays that are pretty difficult and 3 tests, but the final includes about 70 questions from the past three tests. If you put a lot of effort in and do well on the tests you should get an A.
If you have a general knowledge of politics, this class is a breeze. Three tests, all of which are easy. Two writing assignments, somewhat difficult if you did not read the required text. Also, usually gives a daily one question quiz as attendance, which is always common sense. I would definitely take her again.
strictly lecture class. if you dont take good notes or remember to ask a classmate for them, you are screwed. tests mirror all of her lecture notes (powerpoint) however i found these very vague and hard to understand fully. 3 inclass papers, based on readings. you can use the text during test but make sure you read and take notes throughout it!
I took the accelerated Online class...It was ALOT of work. Expect to be on the computer every day, and writing all the time. No textbook was nice. Interesting class and I overall enjoyed it. Stay on top of the work and you'll pass. Not an easy A though.
I wasn't really looking forward to this class, but it's turned out to be one of my favorite of the whole semester. Grading is relatively easy if you review your notes and pay attention you're set. Daily one question quizzes are easy if you look the notes over before the class starts. She's also really helpful and fun to talk to before class.
I wasnt looking forward to taking this class, but she is a good teacher. There is no text book for this class, you just have to print like 30pgs online. She is very clear in teaching. Its not a fun class but she keeps you interested with different activities. If you need poly sci I would take her. Do the quizs online and you should pass no problem
Great teacher! extremely helpful. I had a 78% in her class, and she let me re-do an assignment so I could get a B. The class is kind of a lot of work, and covers some hard topics. She is also a pretty hard grader, but fair. TAKE HER!
Great teacher. Covers some hard topics. Tests are sometimes hard, but they are only a few questions. SAVE YOUR TEST ANSWERS because the final as well as the two exams consist mostly of the same questions used for the quiz's. Good teacher, she made me able to make up an assignment so I could get a B. would recommend her.
I took this class during the summer online. Got an A. Not a difficult class but be prepared to spend lots of time in front of the computer listening to powerpoint presentations. Lots of papers to write. I think it was like 20 in total. Teacher does respond to questions very quickly. She grades paper somewhat tough, so don't BS anything.
Took the online summer class. Not a very difficult class to get an A in, but definitely time consuming, especially with all the slideshow lectures to watch and the papers to write. Typing up the information in the PowerPoints to use for the tests is VERY helpful to ensure an A in all exams.
She's a great teacher. I don't like government and don't find it interesting, but her lectures related politics to things that I could wrap my head around. Her class isn't an easy A, because there are in class essays that require you to really know and apply the readings. You'll learn a ton in her class. I would take another class from her.
I took this class online, and she is the BEST online prof I have ever had!! Everything is clear, direct and easy to understand. Lots of assignments, but all are relevant. This class really makes you learn and understand the subject and her voiced over lectures made it so interesting! Definitely Recommended!!
I took this class online and it was more time consuming than my 5 unit math class. Not hard, just time consuming. Hours worth of lecture per quiz, random quiz and test questions, five (ish) 2, 3, or 4 page papers due every month... for a three unit class. I listened to EVERY lecture and took notes, and still couldn't get an A.. and I have a 3.9 GPA
I took the online course, and really enjoyed it. Everything was clear, and easy to understand. There are about 20 thought-provoking written assignments which are very time consuming, but you will learn a lot of important and relevant stuff. This class really helps you understand the subject. Great professor!!
Highly recommended professor. Knows subject very well. Made material understandable and interesting without any prior interest. Takes time to help. Attendance and thorough note taking mandatory.daily lecture based quizzes. 3 multiple choice tests based on lecture. Final composed of same questions as tests. 3 in class essays based on readings.
Very easy tests if you study the notes well. Attend lectures and don't miss class. The only thing that sucks is the essays. There's a lot of reading involved with them and the question can be kind of vague.
Never took an online class before but Ballestero was one of my most interactive teachers even though I have never physically been taught by her. Time consuming and though provoking, yes. This is a College level poli sci. You are expected to think critically. Excellent teacher.
Lee is a great teacher. She made class interesting and worth attending. Her in class essays were a little tricky but we had discussions about them the class preceding the test day. Her tests are cake because she explains her lectures well. Take her. You will not regret it.
I wouldn't say she's extremely difficult, but she's thorough. She's pretty straight forward and concise which I don't see enough of from Moorpark teachers. She makes it less difficult to learn the material while at the same time giving you a lot of it (but not too much). Honestly, Moorpark needs more teachers like her. Shes a pretty fair grader too. If you're looking for a teacher who will actually teach, look no further.
Very professional teacher. She knows her subject very well. Show up to class, read the material your lecture notes and you should be able to pass the class.
Take her online class! Sooo easy. Take notes while listening to the power points. She explains what will be asked on the test. Exams are directly made from questions asked in quizes.
AWESOME TEACHER!! She really knows her stuff and gets you involved in discussions. Explains everything thoroughly and in a fun way. Great powerpoint presentations. Daily lecture quizzes to keep you on your toes, which helps when it comes to test time. Essays are tricky but if you can be make your point and back it up you'll do well! Take her!
do not wait until the last day if you're in the online class. I just spent 9 hours (not exaggerating)completing the last section. Class is composed of 3 of them. This one had 25 lectures, 2 discussion posts, 4 essays, and 4 quizzes and this was the shortest section. One of the essays required reading 39 pdf pages. I aint a hater, just warning yall
Professor Lee Ballestero is a very kind person. She takes time to answer your questions, and cares about all of her pupils. Requires you to have Political Systems packet, and study notes for in-class reviews and tests. Notes are every other day (Monday/Wednesday) etc. Some of the classmates interrupted her sometimes. Overall good class!
Not an easy class at all. In class essays are easy, but the tests are very tricky. However, she is very concise with the material, so that makes up for it. Just study study study!
I am not interested in politics at all and she made it very relatable. Essays are difficult but she is relatively easy on grading, but you have to really do the work.
She's great, but don't come in late because you will miss the quizzes which can't be made up and you will miss her lecture notes. Study hard and don't do anything last minute.
So she is a greeeeeat teacher but the in-class essays are a pin in the butt. If you're not good at them, probably not the class for you but if not then definitely take her! She makes the subject relatable and interesting
Took the online course this past semester. This class is not easy, but not that difficult either, you just HAVE to do the work in order to get a good grade. Lecture/power points are very clear; you don't use a book at all. Take your time on the tests because they can be tricky. I recommend this class if you are a good student.
I took her online class. She grades tough on the written assignments. The powerpoints are very clear. As long as you take detailed notes you will get A/B on the tests. The quiz/tests can be tricky. She makes the class very easy to follow, so as long as you do all the work, you can get an A.She is organized and clear on what she expects.I recommend.
Very thorough in her lectures and willing to help outside class, but you MUST take excellent notes if you hope to do well on the tests and you MUST do the readings in order to pull off a decent grade on the in-class essays. Very good teacher, but you will have to work for an A. Has the class play games for EC points all test except the final.
Great professor, enjoyed her class all semester. I thought it was easy because i actually studied and took great notes. Class is not hard disregard all the comments below. If you study you will get an A. Offers extracredit games as well.
I took Lee last semester, she is a very smart prof, she knows what she is talking about. There is no books for the tests, some might be thinking this is good but all test questions are from her lectures so you better take good notes. Readings are very tough for essays, its extremely hard to get an A but easy to get a B, take her if your dedidicated
Do not take her for the online class. Her quizzes are easy if you take notes but her assignments are very tedious and hard. It's possible to get an A in this class but you have to work for it.
Three test and three in class essays. Final is questions from all the test. Lecture quizzes at the start of every class. Not a hard class at all. Can easily get a B.
Her classes are very easy to follow. Everything is clear in her syllabus and if you follow it, you shouldn't have a problem. Relates a lot of issues to current times. Very interesting and consistent. No surprises.
didnt show up a more then a couple times. still recieved a B. small 1 quiz everyday for attendance and easy points. test from lecture notes. reading assignments from text. allowed to use notes and textbook for it. loved her teaching. overall a great class to take!
Pretty boring class but extremely easy. She's a great professor and she was always very clear and helpful. Her powerpoints always have everything you need to know. NO HOMEWORK! 3 in class essays, 3 exams and 1 final. All very easy to do. If you're gonna take this class you should take it with her
Great teacher! Final is questions from last 3 test. Take her!
Grew professor! The class was challenging but the tests were 100% from her lectures, so make sure you go to class or get notes from someone else. The essays were very challenging for me but if you persevere, you can get an A too! (this was an honors class, the regular class might be easier as far as the essays are concerned)
Amazing professor! So knowledgable and gave the best lectures. Her lectures are very clear and thorough. Did not daydream once! This class almost made me switch to a polysci major. The book is really cheap. If you are a diligent note taker, tests will be easy. Not an easy A, but certainly an attainable A. Highly recommend this professor.
You need to dedicate at least three hours a week to this class and do all the assignments as early as possible to make it easy on yourself. She responds to emails in a reasonable amount of time. I highly recommend taking her class, it is a worthwhile experience and it is not hard to get an A, it just takes time and effort. No textbook required.
Would recommend. Challenging course but the lectures are fantastic. I ended with a B, but, on this occasion, I blame myself and not the professor. She keeps office hours if you need help and grades fairly. Beware, the final is worth almost nothing so make sure you go into it with an A.
Took pol theory from her and I liked how there was no text book! All of it was provided on d2l. Pros: very helpful, clear lecturer. Cons: a lot of group discussions that would often digress, all of the tests were memorizing quotes, sometimes what she was looking for wasn't clear. Definitely keep up with the reading.
No text book. All of the exam questions were from the quizzes (she never tries to trick you). Quizzes were short and asked basic questions from the lectures. Missed a few of the Hw assignments and discussions without it affecting my grade. Very straightforward teacher. Best if you do a little from the units each day or you will get behind.
This was an awesome class, i learned so much about our countries' foundations and local and state political offices. Online summer class included course divided into 3 units with a test after each and multiple quizzes within each unit. Final exam is cumulative. No textbook. Provides PowerPoint audio files.
If I could take all my classes with this Prof , I would ! Lectures super clear, slides to listen to while reading . a short quiz at every end of chapter. NO TEXTBOOKS NEEDED!! Gives you two chances to each of your assignments that allows you to score 100% every-time if you do work . everything was easy to follow. The BEST!
Took her class and loved every moment of it! :) She's very clear with the notes, there's daily lecture quizzes. Three in class essay exams, three scantron essays & an accumulative final. Homework is just doing the readings in the packet & studying notes. If you need help, she'll take time to explain everything. Very good professor & class!
Her tests are just a "copy and paste" of the quizzes and same goes for the tests and final. Print out the quizzes before the exams and the exams before the final. If you do that you will pass. Also, be sure to keep up on the assignments!
This professor is amazing. She is there to help you, and wants you to succeed. She piqued my interest in Poly Sci and I hope to take another class from her in the future. The 3 tests are literally a copy of her lectures (still have to study) and her essays are dependent on the book. Take her class!
Dr. Ballestero is a fantastic professor. Her online lectures are thorough and easy to follow because she has a pleasant and clear way of explaining the material. She is straight forward and is supportive. Highly recommend.
Tests are based heavily on notes- attendance is important. For the in-class essays, read ahead of time, answer all questions she gives ahead of time so you have what you need for the essay. Grading is very fair. You get the grade you earn. She's more than willing to answer questions during office hours and through email.
She was an amazing professor you know she loves what she does and she does it well. Shes easy to talk to talk to, every assignment given is explained ahead of time and easy to complete. Plus she gives you a chance to examine past exams to study for the final. I did receive a C but that was on me, I would take her again if I could.
I took a four-week long class with her online. I contacted her only a few times, and every time she was prompt, polite, and kind. As with the majority of four-week classes, there's a lot of work involved, but it wasn't unbearable. Her feedback was great, lectures were good, and I have no complaints at all. Online class does not require a textbook.
I highly recommend this lady! She gives great, clear and thorough lectures. She also responds to emails quick as well. Maybe within a few minutes or so. It varies. I also recommend taking POLS M05 for your American government/institutions class if you'd like to save money as this class requires no textbook.
Easy class. Divided into 3 units w/quiz for each subject. 3 exams 1 cumulative final. No book. Everything on D2L. I actually learned a lot in this class and I'm glad I took it. You won't be disappointed if you take this class. Get good grades on small quizzes, they add up.
I loved this class! She posts her lectures in a video form. She recorded her voice of the lecture and it was very clear and helpful. I would definitely take this class again!
Not bad of an online class. There is no textbook, and she has all the powerpoints for you. There is quizzes, tests, discussion posts and assignments, and a final! Keep up with assignments and do not wait last minute!!
One of the finest and most passionate professors on this campus. The lectures seem long but she is very intelligent (she wrote the textbook) and makes political science more interesting. She is also very personable if you need help during her office hours. I recommend her for any student who needs to take a political class.
Lee is amazing! She knows the material very well and goes out of her way to answer any questions or scenarios of government you could possibly have. Her tests are easy if you study the lecture notes. She assigns 3 papers which are a little harder and require tons of reading. Her lectures are long but they are never dull. Overall she's wonderful!
Professor Ballestero is awesome! She posts all her lectures online and they are very informative! Very organized and responds to messages quickly. Took her last spring and ended up with an A. Class consists of homework, discussions, quizzes at the end of each module, three tests and a final. Highly recommend!
Ms. Ballestero is a great professor. I would take her again for another political science class. All you have to do is prepare for the lecture exams from your class notes, and then do the readings from the textbook she assigns because you are tested on them in class with essay exams. You will get an A if you study for the tests.
Take her! you won't regret it! She is so nice and responds to emails really quickly. No textbook needed and her online lectures were awesome.
Definitely not an easy A but you can tell she cares for her students and wants them to do well. Lectures can be time consuming but she makes them interesting, tests are challenging. Overall not too bad
Lee is awesome! Her class is graded on discussion questions, quizzes, 3 exams and a final. I found her class pretty easy and learned a lot. If you take well-written notes, you will do well in the class! Having the class online made testing a lot easier because you always have your notes in front of you. Take her for sure!
I took her 8 week online class and although it was a lot of work I'd definitely do it again. Do well on her quizzes because most of the test consists of all of the prior quiz questions; final consisted of 99% test questions. No book required so huge money saver right there; she has video lectures and is easy to follow. Take her.
I took the 8-week accelerated course online and regret none of it. Her lectures cover everything on the unit quizzes, her exams are essentially all of the unit quizzes put together with a few questions about the short essay prompts thrown in. The final exam was nearly identical to all three exams we took, only a few questions were not on them.
This is my 2nd time taking Ballestero and i love her. This was an 8week class, but still very doable. Lectures are very clear and quizzes come directly from them, also aren't that difficult. Tests are made up of quiz Q's so study those. Prof Ballestero is great! She's super clear and responds quickly as well.
Prof. Ballestero is a solid choice. Lectures and assignments were all very straightforward. Not a difficult class.
Show up, take/study lecture notes for quizzes and tests. Attendance is a simple 1/2 word quiz on the prev. week's lecture. 3 essays based on textbook, the study guide provided helps to prepare. Essays are open book/note. Interesting class, Prof Ballestero is a gem who knows how to deliver information.. 10/10
You do have to semi-work for an A but it is really easy and she makes the lesson interesting. The class is broken down into videos that you watch and then take a quiz. Try hard on the quizzes because then you have the same question and answer on the final and so on with the mid-term/final. Also she emails back quickly and seems super genuine.
Great teacher! I always avoided Political Science so I am glad it was with her. I learned something and she made it doable. I took the 4 week online class. You have to write a lot of papers but, I loved being able to listen to lectures more than once so I could take better notes. Your grade is put up fast. She responds quickly and is very fair.
I took Ms. Lee's 4 week summer class M08, and I am glad I did. I was worried at first that I wouldn't be able to handle it. However, Lee's lectures are amazing, no need to textbooks, only powerpoints. If you watch them and take notes, you'll do great. She explains the materials very good. Be organized, listen and take notes, you'll pass.
Online/no book. Take notes through the PPTs & you have all you need for quizzes/tests. Print your quiz/tests & make corrections for future tests. Has actual expectations, unlike many Moorpark profs. If you turn in work early, she'll give you constructive criticism and let you re-write. Very clear expectations & I love that she grades fast.
Take her!!!! I did her four week online class and she was so great. There's a lot of work to do (slideshows to listen to especially), yet if you manage your time right then you will pass! Make sure you take notes every single time for the quizzes and the tests and final exam! Again, it's a lot of work online but easy! So easy! Take her she's great!
Took her for 4 week summer class. No book. Audio lectures with powerpoints. Really made it easy to understand. Assignments weren't too time consuming but contributed to learning. Take her. She's open to errors and issues. quizzes are timed though.
Took this 8 week online class for a requirement and do not regret it. If you want the A you will definitely have to listen to her lectures and take good notes because quiz and exams come straight from that. She was very knowledgeable about the subject and I actually learned a lot. Interesting class and she always gave you feedback quickly.
I took the online 8 week course and it was the best decision ever. She tells you exactly what you need to fix on HW so you can resubmit for an A, and everything in the lectures are on the quizzes. Quiz questions are on the tests, test questions are on the final. Take this with a friend so you can work together. I highly recommend, it's an easy A.
This was a very easy 8-week online class. Most of the class consisted of listening to her video lectures, participating in group discussions and a few exams. Nothing difficult at all, and being an 8-week class, it's over before you know it. Prof. Ballestero is very passionate about this subject and makes it easy to understand.
She's a wonderful prof & cares about her students. She has office hours & will be flexible to meet with you. Every class has a lecture quiz which counts for your attendance if you get it right. She has in class essays(open book). Test are multiple choice but are more conceptual rather than just vocab. Just take good notes and show up.
Professor Ballestero was the best! Just finished the 8 week online course. It was easy as long as you put the effort into it. No textbook, everything comes from the powerpoint lectures you watch before taking the quizzes. Quiz questions are exam questions and final questions are from the exams! I would definitely take another class with her.
No textbook was required but watching her long and boring powerpoints IS a necessity in order to pass the quizzes. Grading is strict, the entire semester i only missed 2 homework assignments; 1 worth 3 points & 1 worth 5 but aced every quiz, missing those 5pts dropped me to a B, pretty silly. Assignments are long & unnecessary.
She is a great teacher. You have 3 test and 3 in class essays, she is an easy grader on the essays. She always gives avaliabke to answer any questions through email if you cant make to her office hours.
This online course was easier than I expected it to be. Reasonable amount of work to do. This professor also allows you to redo assignments as long as it's before the unit ends, which helps your grade a lot! The first week may seem a little tough on grading, but hang in there the assignments get easier!
To compensate for the lack of in-class time or a required textbook, this class involves a lot of reading and responding to online articles. Thankfully she grades pretty easily and the due dates are extremely clear. As long as you are comfortable with a consistent workload you should be fine.
Professor Ballestero was a fine professor, I took her class online and it wasnt too bad. Theres multiple assignments due every other week or so, following four quizzes and and an exam. Several papers you must write, about six current events, and a few other assignments. She lets you redo assignments too for full points. Its very lecture heavy.
I wasn't too excited to take a poli sci class, but i'm glad i took it with prof. Ballestero. She gives great lectures and does a good job of explaining the material. Exams arent too difficult. Lecture quizzes given each class, but are usually easy. In class essays before each exam require a bit of reading. Take good notes and read, you'll do well
Her grading was not clear at all the first week of class. Her quizzes are hard. I got my answers from her powerpoint for the quizzes and still somehow failed. There is a fair amount of work for a 4 week class which is nice but it is hard to get an A . The quiz questions are on the tests if you can find the answers for the quizzes you will be set.
Professor Ballestero is a great professor, keep quizzes some of the quiz questions are on the exam and some exam questions will be on the final. the first week seems hard but don't give up.
Is was amazing! If she offered more classes on different subjects, I would retake her. KEEP QUIZZES, they help with exams, and the exams will help with the final. Trust me It will seem hard the 1st week, but it gets better. Take notes on her Powerpoint lectures and even when she is talking its critical.
First let me start by saying that if I can pass a class with an A, then you can too. 2nd I do not understand why she isn't a popular professor on this website, she is amazing! I took her online class fist week seemed very hard, but stick by it, and it will get better. Keep quizzes; they help for exams and the final. TAKE NOTES
What I enjoyed about this class the most was that we did not have to purchase any book, she went ahead and gave all the information that we needed by her power points. Her lectures were more of concepts, and she would apply it to different examples. I think everyone in our class received a good grade. She is a great teacher.
She is amazing, if I can pass you can pass. I passed with an A
She tells you right off to keep quizzes because they help with the exams, and the exams help with the final. Four-week course each unit consist of 3 sections of powerpoint, about three assignments due Thursday's, Saturday's, and Sunday's. On Monday's discussion post, and quiz are due. On Tuesday's you take the exams.
What I loved about her was as soon as you submitted anything to be graded she got back to you on that day even on weekends. Sometimes as soon as a submitted an assignment or discussion post she had already graded it within a few minutes. She also had my final grade submitted to records already. She was great.
This was my first on-line class and she was the best. She was very clear and understanding throughout the class. Her power slides are given answers for the quizzes and test and they are all multiple choice. Discussions are also clear and are based on news of today so easy as well. She was a great instructor and def. will take again.
A lot of assignments worth small points, but you can resubmit them for full credit, just make sure you understand what she wants fixed. Took her 8-week online course it is doable! Keep quizzes all the questions show up again. Listen to what she says and has on the screen in lecture.
Her course is doable but the course does contain many quizzes which are based off of her voice over lectures which are not the best quality and are very boring. She is a tough grader but assignments can be resubmitted. If you take her, listen carefully to the lectures and study the quizzes in order to do well on the exams!
Great prof who lets you turn in assignments early to get full credit. Tests are quiz questions. Only prob is you are graded by a few things and a bunch of quizzes so if you miss one thing it tanks your grade. Had an A+ all semester then it dropped to a B the final week because I missed one 5pt assignment. Just be on top of it! Great prof & class.
4 week online class. I never actually spoke to or saw this prof, but her syllabus/grading material were clear, she graded assignments usually within the day, and gives feedback (plus allows you to resubmit assignments). Her lecture videos were short, and she also reused questions from the quizzes into the exams and final. And I learned a lot!
Worst professor I've actually ever had. Everything is graded with such few points and the assignments and feedback make zero sense. I learned more in middle school from my political science teacher than this professor. Avoid at all costs.
I took a faster course and so it was a lot of reading each week but Professor Ballestero was easily accessible if you have any issues with anything. Clear due dates and expectations.
Do not recommend! Her lectures range from being 10+ years old to current, but switch back and forth between the times without telling you so the material gets very confusing. She didnt explain things enough during lectures. The homework is a lot of work and the grading is awful. Didnt really learn much. Very confusing class and bad professor.
Online class. Not interested in putting forth effort to make her content up-to-date, or comprehensible. Modules are out of order. Videos are 20 years old, with dated references to then-current events. Sound quality is grating, video quality 240p, often eating something, or scraping the mic across her desk. Poorly sets due date expectations.
This class makes me want to d*e. Not only is everything worth like 2 points which makes me want to do the literal bare minimum but also who opens tests on Friday at 12:00 AM only for you to have to do it on a Saturday, do you enjoy ruining my weekend that I look forward to? Anyways I hate this class don't take it.
4-week online class. Super easy assignments but tons of it. put some effort in & easily get an A. Her lecture vids are somewhat old but quiz/test q's come directly from them. most q's on quizlet tho. assignments are only a few points but are 40% of your grade so do them right. Be on top of this class or your grade will drop fast. Def recommend!
Good choice if POLS isn't your major. Took her for a 6 week course and it was easy. All quiz/test questions are on quizlet so you do not have to watch her 20 y/o lectures. Hw assignments are worth 2-4 pts and there are 14 quizzes but it is all doable.
This class is hard. The assignments take a long time to do and they're not worth very many points so if you don't do exactly what she wants, you'll be getting a 2/3 for the assignment and it'll affect your a lot. Not an easy A but she does give great feedback and allows many chances to redo h/w. Recommend if you want to learn POLS.
Class is seriously a joke. I got an A, but the class screams lazy professor. Take this class if pol-sci is not your major, I guess. You won't learn much and the class has the difficulty of a high school course. A lot of people like her course because it is easy but there is hardly any substance. This professor makes me question online degrees...
Easy class, good music but the concert report is tricky.
I took express online POLS M05. This was a perfect online class layout in my opinion. Lectures were divided into short videos(under 10 mins)no option to watch in 2x speed tho:(. Lecture material is on the quiz and quiz Q's are on the exams. No reading. Very few assignments. No group work. You can still pass if you don't watch every lecture.
Very concise lectures and explains the topics really well. The exams are super easy if you take notes.
This professor was good for the most part. Clear grading structure, timley responses to email, quick grading. The class was also pretty easy with , open note quizzes 10%, tests 30%, current events 10%, final 10%, homework 40%. The lecture videos 240p and audio can be hard to understand at times, each hw assignments worth very little points .
I took a summer 4-week course where many assignments were due back to back. Very fast-paced and stressful but worth it. I found it really helpful that the assignments could be resubmitted once for a better grade. It is really beneficial to take notes on the lectures.
I took this as a 4-week course during Summer and I do NOT recommend. Back to back homework with no set schedule for due dates. Quizzes/exams are timed and does not allow you a second chance to retake them. I did not feel like I learned anything in this class. Be prepared to use other resources for information.
Took 4 week summer course, and it was a lot of work but easy. Very lecture heavy, short lectures but many per unit (3 units total). Assignments were easy and straightforward, could resubmit homework. Quiz questions used for exams which are then used on the final exam. Easy to do well if you put in the time. Prof. was accessible and understanding
Do not be fooled! This is not an easy class! You have to do A LOT of dumb assignments that don't help with anything. It's literally all busy work! Each of the assignments has crazy specific instructions that is completely unreasonable!!! Save yourself the trouble and don't take her!
Absolutely awful! Very boring lectures and A LOT of hw! Do not take this class! There were over 14 quizzes in 1 month! And the final exam had over 100 questions!!! Very difficult class that consists of nothing but busy work!! PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS WOMAN!!!!
Awful don't do it! I cried multiple times! Homework is due literally back to back! I don't know how 84% of people would take her again she's literally impossible! Bye bye GPA :(
Would never recommend this class!!! So much hw with unclear directions! A bunch of lectures that took like 3 hrs to complete! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU LIKE TO BE UNHAPPY AND STRESSED
One of my main issues with the course I am currently taking is the lack of accessibility. She tells us to watch videos, but expects us to look them up on our own, and provides no link, and just to find that the videos have no subtitles. The homework is busywork, and she's a tough grader without specifying what she is looking for in homework.
6 wk spring course.3 units organized in modules. allows resubmissions & feedback. 14 Quizes total- 3 unit exams. 1 Final Exam. HW due every 2-4 days. All quiz ?s on the exams. learned alot- would take again. Try it out, all the reviews seem like lazy people who didnt get the easy A class and are complaining they have to do work.
She is great! The negative reviews on here seem so wrong. As long as you are on top of your assignments, review lectures, and study, this class should be straightforward. She allows resubmissions for papers and will let you know how to improve next time. It is a short class (six weeks) but I was able to learn so much and got a lot out of the class.
She has a lot of homework back to back, so be prepared not to have a break from politics. Heavy homework grader doesn't make it clear what she wants you to answer for homework questions or essays. Allows retakes, but you have little to no time to rewrite them if you can even figure out what you got wrong or what is missing.
Good Professor. I took POLSMO3 in person. Her lectures are interesting/note taking is necessary. No homework. There were 3 in class essays and 3 scantron exams with 50 questions and about 20 points extra credit. The final was a mixture off the three exams. Her class is not an easy A, but if you put in the effort you will do well.
A great professor actually cares about what she's teaching. She's always willing to answer questions, explain or repeat things during lectures. Be prepared to take lots of notes. She's chill
She is extremely organized & her lectures are very clear and concise. Being at class is necessary as she does an easy lecture quiz at the beginning of class for attendance. I got a 90% in participation and I only missed 3 classes. This class isn't easy but she offers extra credit on each test so that helps a lot. I really enjoyed her and this class
Class is easy but lecture heavy, and answers to all of the quizzes are in the lectures. Weekly homework consisted of two-ish assignments and two discussion posts plus (easy) quizzes and a unit exam. She left helpful feedback on assignments and offers a generous resubmission policy. Be aware that her grading structure is based on many categories.
I wasn't the biggest fan of this class. I took the 8 week course, so expected it to be fast pace and many assignments but I felt like I had to dedicate so much time (more than normal) to this class and she is a tough grader. there was about 8+ assignments a week...I also received some unfair grades on which brought my grade down to a C.
Attendance affects your grade, she will not excuse absences unless you have proof (doctors note, tow ticket, obituary) like this was shocking to me, we are all adults here.
extremally tough grader. The essay we had to write was on the first week, she gave me a 3/5. When I asked her why, she gave me a set of questions that I was "supposed to answer", not in her essay prompt. she then gave me a 4/5, and threw in another question I was supposed to answer. don't take this class unless u want 100 assignments at once.
Wonderful teacher, with online courses she allows you to resubmit assignments for full credit while the unit is open. Give great feedback and helps you understand. Lectures are very clear and understanding. her online course is very well organized. 100% should take her.
She is pretty nice and gives you feedback on assignments. I have just a few complaints. The lecture videos have poor sound quality. The modules are out of order. She once took off points on my assignment for not having everything she wanted, even though I did. Make sure you do everything she asks for on an assignment, or else your grade will tank.
I LOVED attending Professor Ballestero's class. Her lectures were incredibly interesting and she was very good about interacting with the class. The grade is heavily dependent upon tests and in-class essays. As long as you pay attention in class and read the readings you will do well on them.
I was nervous about taking a political science class especially since it was a short accelerated course, but Professor Ballestero, Lee H. sets up her online classes in a clear easy to manage way. She gives good feedback and is quick to grade. As long as you keep up with assignments you should be OK.
I enjoyed the class and the professor. I personally enjoyed the lectures. Class is engaging and she is nice. She gives multiple choice tests AND essay tests based off of the textbook, however they aren't super difficult. In fact, the essay tests really helped me understand and interpret what the readings were saying.
There is a textbook that you have to purchase at the beginning of the class, which gives you a ton of help for the three written essays you perform in class throughout the semester. Professor Ballestero was very clear on what she needed from you and gave recommendations as to how to study, take notes, etc. STUDY for exams and you'll do great.
Prof Lee is really a great online teacher, they allow you to resubmit assignments if you did not receive full credit, and is SUPER clear with her grading requirements. I would recommend her to anyone needing to take this class. Short assignments, some quizzes and really simple multiple choice midterm and final.
My course was async (6weeks); as long as you pace yourself/ watch the lectures - all the homework is pretty easy and provided to you in the lectures. Homework is due every 2-4days (for accelerated course) but overall very doable: 2 current events every 2 weeks and couple short 1 page essays, tests were on Canvas and MC.
Easiest poli sci class I've taken so far, she allows you to resubmit everything for full points as long as all the work is done on time and the submission is done by the module due date.
Great online class with very low difficulty, offers an ounce of extra credit and does not grade tough.
Amazing professor. She makes the topic so interesting and easy to learn. You have to do the readings!! They will be specifically tested! Other than that, she gives a pretty non-biased approach to government which was refreshing and helped me feel informed.
Professor Ballestero is amazing and you can tell she knows what she is talking about. Lectures will take up a good amount of time but nothing too bad. The assignments are super simple and quizzes are based off of the lectures. She also responds back very quickly with emails and had office hours from Monday-Wednesday!
She is a very good professor, her lectures are simplified, short and straight to the point. You don't have to sit and listen to 1 hour videos. Quizzes are very easy if you listen to lectures. She offers a revision for homework if you didn't do it right. So you can always get full points no matter what. Overall I enjoy her teaching style!
AG 4W:There are short, required lectures you must watch to pass. The class has discussions, rhetorical analysis essays, and quizzes. "Essays" are easy and always under two pages. Discussions are lecture-based. It feels intimidating at first, but take it! She's a super fast grader, literally less than 24h. I wish she taught more classes. TAKE HER!
Professor Ballestero was great! She really knows her stuff, so if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask her. The textbook she uses is super helpful since each essay is open book/note. Do the readings because they will be specifically tested and you'll need evidence. Use notecards to study terms for exams. Challenging class, but still very fun!
To preface- I had her for an online course that lasted for around one month, it was very do-able but this class was purely online lectures that were great. Her grading turnaround is so impressive and all assignments were graded within 24hrs with an opportunity to correct for full points back! Would take her again in a heartbeat!
If you have any other responsibilities outside of school do not take this course online especially not PACE. The lecture you have to watch because she has no power points, which is fine, but very time consuming. Also she only opens exams on the day they're due, so good luck if you're busy that Sunday.
Love, this professor. She is super straight to the point and understands her material very well. Some teachers know their material so well, sometimes they have trouble explaining in full and that is her. She is always willing to help and it extremely responsive (even on Sundays). Just work hard, do the readings, listen carefully. She talks fast.
