Lee Brown, very cool guy, passionate about the what he talks about. He's very insightful and cares about what you say. Very funny when people debate. Highly Recomended!!!
great teacher. he tests only what he teaches. only bad thing is mandatory attendance.
I love Mr. Brown. He makes me more aware of what's going on in our world today. Take is Poli-Sci 2 class!
Does not like anyone who is conservative, and interprets most areas from a liberal point of view. Needs more balance when teaching.
If you dont mind listening to his extremely liberal lectures then take this class. Only 3 writing assignments, and tests are kinda difficult. All his tests are off key terms and lectures.Lectures are based off the textbook. Not an easy class yet not extremely difficult. Just be prepared to hear him yap on and on about negatively about the economy.
the whole class is him talking and copying down a powerpoint. tests are hard. assignments are easy.
hes from compton?!. whats there not to like from a guy from compton?! yea his test were kinda difficult but if u study what ur suppose too, they're pretty easy. i liked his class! he was fun and interesting
The class is awful. He is so liberal and hates conservatives. DONT TAKE CLASS FROM HIM!!
attendance equals one test so show up
Grade is from: 4 tests, 2 two page essays, 1 assignment, and attendance. No study guides, no curve, doesn't drop your worst test. Highest grade on 1st and 3rd test was a 90%. 100% lecture. 100% liberal viewpoint. When you write essays do his point of view or you WILL fail that essay. Friendly guy, cares about what he teaches. My only B in 43 units.
I like him b/c he posts grades really fast. He's really not that hard. You will pass if you attend class and READ the book! Don't take notes in his class, just underline what he's says that is also in the book. Just pay attention to what he says; its pretty obvious what you need to do to get a good grade.
Highly recommended.
He cares about what he is teaching the his students. If you show up, do the assignments and tests than you will get at least a C.
he is very liberal and only cares about his opinion. i do not reccommend this teacher AT ALL.
Mr. Brown is a brilliant teacher. I don't agree with many of his opinions, but his class changed the way I see the world. He has taught me to have an open mind and to question what goes on in our country. He is one of the best teachers at Willow International.
good teacher, is passionate about what he talks about. the tests are all the notes from lecture. i agree with a previous comment, if you don't write essays from his point of view he'll fail it. i got one B+ and three A's on my tests, but because of the essays i got a B in the class. again not a bad teacher, but i heard there's an easier one!
Awesome teacher. Easy tests, good lectures and intelligent point of view on the Constitution and government.
Brown is awesome. He makes you think and really clarifies what goes on in Government. You can say he's liberal, but really he just loves the Constitution. He doesn't discriminate if your view doesn't line up with his, he just knows what the Constitution allows for. Listen instead of getting up in arms in defense of your view, and you'll like him.
Absolutely hated this teacher. It wasn't that he was hard, exactly. It's just that he would teach his opinions, but would test on what the book said (which was often directly against his opinion). He failed at explaining assignments and test material, but would question why the class as a whole did poorly. I felt like he belittled students.
Brown is GREAT! The only "opinion" he teaches is to look beyond the parties and pundit that disrupt accurate political decision-making. Lectures were mostly enjoyable. He is a down-to-earth family man and very professional.
This professor was awesome. He talks a lot and doesn't expect a ton of class participation. If you print out the key terms and study them you're basically guaranteed at least a b.
Awful teacher. Interesting class, but he grades really harshly. I have never gotten anything below a B on a paper and he gave me a D! His tests trick you, and he is quite mean. Do not take him if you want to pass the class without a lot of stress.
i was always told poli sci was difficut. super easy! i sat in the front row so i wouldnt fall asleep. basically the tests will be 90% key terms!if you know them you will do well.
He is extremely liberal. At least that was my impression. I percieved it as government bashing. But that is my opinion.
I had no problems with the class. He is a very straight forward in his lectures. I think he is a great instructor and I'm a conservative.
Most liberal, arrogant, horrible professor I've ever had. If you don't agree w/his opinion on the topic, he'll give you an F on the assignment. Extremely unfair; it's like he doesn't want you to succeed!
Lectures were interesting but I had to compare my notes to the book to see what MIGHT would be on the test. I got an F on the 1st test by just studying notes. Even after studying notes with the book, I still only got a C on the rest of the exams. Sometimes his opinion went against the book & I didn't know which answer to put (his or the book's).
Typical Professor, lectures whole time. No presentation, some white board examples. Your responsibilty to read from book in order to learn. Test are typical, know what it means and you'll do fine. Type of class where your responsible for knowing, hes responible for telling.
If you are willing to put in hard work/study time then this class isn't too difficult. Having an interest in Political Science is helpful. Tests are 95% key terms, but it is also helpful to pay attention to the lecture.
If you're not a good test taker, I would recommend not taking this class with him. That's basically all he offers, and his lectures are really boring.
Very straight forward class. Tests are based almost completely on the slideshows he shows in class, but pay attention to what he says also, important bits here and there. He stresses the ridiculousness of political parties and constantly quotes the constitution. It's all there if you go to class and study notes the night before the test.
His lectures are really boring all he does is read out of the book and show powerpoints. Brown never listens to anyone's opinion and is openly ****. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS CLASS IF YOU AREN'T 100% INTO POLY SCI! because you will fail otherwise.
Brown is such a great teacher, he is so passionate about the subject of Poli Sci. I would recommend him. I didnt think the class was very hard, just make sure to study the notes and the terms.
one of the easiest teacher i ever had...take him..
If you read the chapter summaries and review the key terms, you can get at least a B on the test. The Anti Federalist papers are useless I never opened the book. The lectures can get kinda boring but he is really passionate about his class and encourages people to ask questions. He doesn't shoot people down or talk down to you.
Great lecturer, although I wish he wasn't so liberal and quick 2 knock Repubs. I was interested in learning which party I would be partial to. Making it so one-sided discouraged me from trusting him on truth. Great energy & friendly. Know key terms mainly 4 tests. He's pretty tough on his 2 assignments he has u do though, so take them seriously.
I don't know what all the complaints are for...he is a constitutionalist, he bashes on all parties because parties and their agendas ruin what the founding fathers stood for. I didn't buy the book, so I never read it, I didn't take notes I just listened and studied the key terms. I got A's on the written assignments and A's/B's on the tests.
Mr. Brown is not a great professor. His tests are not very hard, just go to class and memorize all the key terms. There's about 100+ key terms for each test. He grades assignments hard because I think he wants people to know he's a hard grader. He is EXTREMELY liberal and he comes off very pompous. Don't every give your conservative opinion in class because he will shoot you down and tell you how you SHOULD believe, I would never take him again. I also got a B in the class.
He was not a good teacher at all. His lectures were all based on opinion and so were the tests. If you don't believe the same way he does it is almost impossible to pass the class.
I ended up dropping this class. He's a hard teacher that makes you feel stupid. when I asked for help or clarification he just looked at me and said read the info I was confused. He's very one-sided on politics and very rude when it comes to talking about anything. Do Not Recommend him! RUN!!!
Class was very hard. You have to really pay attention. He gives you terms 100+ that you have to memorize for the test. I've gotten D's on all the test. Very one sided about his opinions. He will also sometimes make you feel stupid if you don't understand something. I would not recommend taking him if you don't like studying much.
A government class is expected to be centered on politics, but I didn't anticipate an educator to be so extremely one-sided. I felt uncomfortable during each class; a very disappointing experience, and more difficult than it should have been.
His class wasn't all that difficult. He's pretty straight forward with what he expects. The only down side is he counts attendance as a grade, but in my opinion you don't need to go to his class. If you just really read the book you'll get at least a high B on the tests.
HARD CLASS!!! If you ask for help or for him to go into more detail, his response is always "Read the book." He isn't willing to help. Unless you're in love with politics, don't take his class.
He is extremely one sided on political issues VERY defensive and will yell if he is not correct about something, wastes class time arguing and spent one whole class period arguing with a student and never got to the lecture.
Lectures are very interesting. Read the chapter summaries and know the key terms and you'll do fine on the test. Assignments are easy as long as you have what he asks for you'll get a good grade.
Please do not take this class. Besides the fact that his class is one hundred percent opinionated, his tests are also opinionated. If you have him, drop him. I approached him to discuss the essay grade I received after working extremely hard and he proceeded to tell me to put on glasses and I'd get a better grade. Worst professor i've ever had.
I would recommend a different teacher. This class requires you to read the entire book his test are not only on lecture but on anything and everything said in the book. His homework assignments are easy though just follow directions exactly and you will receive a passing grade on those assignments.
If you are a horrible test taker do not take this class! He barely gives homework and the tests are hard.
I don't recommend this class. Your entire grade is based off of 4 tests and 2 assignments. Tests are difficult. Harsh grader on assignments. I am an A & B student with a high GPA but I got a D in this class. Memorize the long list of key terms well and go to tutorial center for assignments and you will pass with at least a C.
I think he is very knowledgeable. He definitely knows what he is talking about and I always enjoy his lectures. However, he can come off extremely opinionated. Always felt as though I was talked down to even when I AGREED with him. I should feel like I can approach my professor for help. Not clear on what he wants from his clas in the assignments.
Awful professor. Bashes personal subjects like religion and race. If you don't agree with him, he yells over you because his opinion is right and yours is "NO, wrong". Tests are tough & also written in his opinion. Assignments are unclear and if you even bother to ask for help he shoots you down. DO NOT take this class
We only had about 10 students in the class and this gave us the opportunity to better understand the core of the class. I was a lot of fun! One of my favorite classes and professors.
DO NOT take his class. He openly gives his opinion on political and bashes other peoples opinions. He is not clear on the assignments he gives out and when you try asking for help he treats you like an idiot. I withdrew from his class because i hated the way the class was structured. His tests are way too hard for a GE class.
By far the hardest teacher at willow.... i barely passed with 2% to spare. projects are big but they arent group. he is VERY VEry opinionated! look out, if you think your right about a view, youre wrong.
VERY opinionated. One of his test questions was "Does the professor believe in gay marriage?" NOT part of curriculum. If you miss a class you get points taken off and grades RIDICULOUSLY hard on the assignments and doesn't give them back. I am an A student and I am trying to pass with an C-. I feel stupid after every class.
He gives vocabulary lists that are essential for passing the tests. There are four tests and two assignments. This class is not hard but you should definitely show up. It helps if you watch a little news so you can discuss in class. I highly recommend taking Political Science with Lee Brown.
He brings a unique and necessary view to the classroom that many of the students in this area have a hard time comprehending or accepting. He has a strong message to tell, and although liberal at times, his ideals are firmly based on the Constitution. If you struggle to think objectively, this class is not for you, and perhaps neither is college.
dont take him
Mr. Brown does NOT accept other peoples opinions. Very close minded. At times he can be funny, and his class really isnt too challenging, but the classes are painful to go to. He basically goes on about his own views the entire class. If you have opposing views to his, I would NOT recommend you take his class.
Horrible professor. Lectures and tests based on his own opinions and deliberately misleads students on policies to push his political agenda. Moderately tough grader but you will pass if you put in effort. Very disrespectful to those with differing opinions and on occasion will go out of his way to make students feel stupid.
Hate this class!! I've had As &Bs in all of classes I've took so far and he's by far the hardest teacher and hard grader. I am even barely struggling to even get a C- in this class. He does not even bother to go over any assignments and no study guides for the tests? I do not recommend taking this class with him save yourself.
I am an A student, and this is the only class I have ever received a C in. This teacher is terrible. There are no real study guides for tests, just word lists which have hundreds of words per test to memorize! Lectures are long and drawn out... and don't actually seem to have anything to do with the tests! Don't bother asking for help either.
The absolute WORST teacher I have ever had!!!!! DO NOT ENROLL in this class. He is rude and his tests have nothing to do with what he teaches. I am an A/B student and I am struggling to pass this class. Awful awful teacher.
Stay away from this guy. Will ruin a straight-A record by a couple points, even if a percentage is otherwise an A. A professor to be avoided based on how rude he is to students, and lacks clarity on overall expectations for the course.
In short he is VERY opinionated, rude, and a tough grader and will see that from day 1. His tests are all memorization which wasn't to bad,i just couldn't stand his attitude. I dropped from a C to an F in 1 assignment because I didnt fully understand the instructions, then i emailed him and got no reply. I didn't expect a 2 whole letter grade drop.
He is a pretty tough grader, tests are hard, and most reviews state that you should avoid taking the class. However, I did not have a problem with him at all view-wise. He does state his opinion occasionally. It appears he is skeptical on law enforcement(Mentions it a bit). I would say to try out the class and then drop if you aren't fond of it.
If you enjoy critical thinking and participating in the subject matter, you will like this class. He covers material that binds the past with current issues and how they're related, which keeps the content fresh. You need to read the book, and take notes. If you do both, you can pass with an A, as long as you make the effort.
Although this class was hard, I still enjoyed it. Just make sure to attend class and study the key terms for tests. I never used my book and passed with an A. He is a tough grader on assignments, but if you do good on tests you should be fine.
Do not take this teacher. Do not listen to the good reviews they are crazy! This guy is the absolute worst teacher I have ever taken. Everyone who I know in the class agree. I have even spoken to other people from his class and they agree. His grading is ridiculous. His assignments are unclear. If you do bad on the tests you are pretty much screwed
One of the worst/hardest classes I have taken at Clovis Community College. This teacher is a VERY hard grader on assignments. He does not give study guides for the test nor make lecure powerpoints available to study. Tests are difficult. If you do bad on the test, you will not pass the class. Only class I have ever struggled to pass.
take this class if youre smart and are only about school. he grades crazy hard and theres not much assignments to help you pass if you fail tests
If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class. Mr. Brown is passionate about his subject and that is how every teacher should be! He wants you to learn and so, yes, he is tough on the grading. If you show up, participate in conversations and STUDY, you will do great. He is very responsive to questions, and is willing to explain concepts.
Lee brown is a tough grader, test are opinionated which is looked down own teachers and using opinions on test is a no no, the writing assignments are never clear and he grades them based on who knows method, you can follow the directions but they will not help and he does not discuss how to do the assignments in class. Very unfair teacher!
If you mess up on any assignment or test it will be impossible to get an A. Only 10 extra credit points for the semester and that is 1% of the final grade.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! there are 2 assignment the entire semester that he grades insanely hard and he believes he explains it well and give all the details but seems to fall short in that category I had good enough grades on the test but the hw is just ridiculous he expects too much out of too little he will not work with you in an single way
Very unclear about how he wants assignments completed. Directions were not specific. The information on tests wasnt even from the very lengthy lectures. Received my only B in this class.
Mr. Brown is a tough teacher! There is only two assignments out of the whole semester. Both are worth a lot of points. He grades them tough because he wants it very specficially. Your grade is mostly weighed on your exams & your attendance. I suggest studying the key terms, 80% of the exams rely on his key terms. He does not post up his slides.
I am usually a strong student, but in this class I struggled. He is very tough to work with, the tests are most of your grade. The two assignments, you do get, have unclear expectations. Just overall avoid this instructor. He knows what he is talking about, but it is just all compiled into a jumbled mess. This was an extremely hard class.
The average on everyones tests through out there semester was in the mid 70s. One paper through the semester and yup the class average was in the mid 70s. Class is mandatory for points.
He gives bogus papers that shouldn't even be given. If you don't have the same political views as him you might as well not take the class. He's a tough grader and doesn't give study guides to help with his tests and his tests are a mess. They do not reflect the lectures and appeared to be strictly book based.
Don't take Brown's class; his lectures have too much info to keep up with, all his tests have over 80 questions - some of them don't relate in any way to the material, and there's a lot of trick questions - if your essays don't meet his criteria, you will not get a good grade. Don't skip class - he dropped me 2 attendance pts for missing 1 day.
Mr Brown is a fantastic person, and taking his class will really open up your eyes to a lot of things. He definitely educated. That said the grades are based off few assignments and tests. The tests are very hard and long. If you do take his class, it will definitely be a good experience and he is great professor, but you will have to work hard.
Mr. Brown is a respectable man. He knows the material he teaches very well, and applies it everyday as we talked about current events every class. The tests are manageable by studying the key terms he provides on canvas, but the only other points in the class were from three 50 point assignments which are graded very hard with no instruction.
He grades extremely harsh... My class average on one of our one 75 points assignments was 53%! Im yet to have a friend at CCC Whos told me they enjoy this class.
Don't take this course with Mr. Brown. He doesn't go over assignments in class and then grades them insanely harshly. Tests are not based on lecture and makes students feel dumb in class if they ask questions.
the worst professor ever, please DO NOT take this class
I spent less than a week with this guy and dropped, he's a bully. Some people say he's "passionate" but you can care about your career without being monstrous towards your students. I wouldn't recommend him if he was the only PoliSci Prof in the country.
This professor grades assignments with abnormal harshness. I have NEVER had the misfortune of being submitted to unfair grading in my entire life until I took this class. He only puts out 3 assignments all year besides the tests and any spelling mistake is met with harsh penalties to your grade. All of these horrible reviews aren't coincidence.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU ARE NOT A POLICI MAJOR. Mr. brown gave me my first F out of my entire time at community college. he does not have clear grading criteria. He is rude and arrogant. If you ask a question he makes you feel dumb. You are given just tests and one paper. and that's it. There is no study guide and no support what so ever!
OK. If you do not agree with his "facts" you will not do well on the exams or essays. His Trump Derangement Syndrome makes it very difficult for him to teach in a way that is agenda free. It seems to me that the class serves his ego and political talking points more than it does students. If he just realized this then his vast knowledge can help us
did not explain any assignments to students. Leaving students to fail their assignments. Corona came and we went virtual. He really made students take a 85 question test online in 50 minutes. Has no sympathy for students or their success in his class. Tests had nothing to do with lecture. Grades very heavy for assignments that where never explained
This teacher is the man for the job. Not only will he provoke your thoughts, but also challenge you to understand why you think the way you do. He has a gift for lecturing other professors should take notes.
I am typically an A student and this class was more than difficult for me. Professor Brown did not even answer half of my questionsnot to mention his grading is horrible. I dont know what his standards are but no matter how hard I tried I never got 100 on one assignment. He doesnt grade by percent, he does points. AVOID THIS TEACHER. bias & bad.
Your views must align with his, hard republican. He makes us take 85 question test in 60 mins. I have emailed him many times during the semester and never once did he reply. He is no empathic at all and does not let anyone make up work. We had HW weekly and only 2 assignments and 5 exams. I never got anything higher than a 74 percent. VERY TOUGH.
He gave out my first C ever. Do not take him unless you are prepared to do everything on your own. He gives horrible feedback, tests are unnecessarily long, and his lectures provide little knowledge needed for the tests. He was rude to students who asked simple questions and made everyone feel dumb.
This teacher is not helpful at all. He is never involved in his class. He made it impossible to get your grade up in his class. He changed his due dates without telling anyone. During the final exam we had the choice of retaking an exam but only had two hours to take them both and all his exams were over 80 questions. I wish I could say more.
I had to make a rate my professor account to express my views on this professor. Professor Brown if you are reading this I have talked about your tough grading and poor teaching style to other professors in different departments and gave them my papers to get a second opinion. They've disagreed with your grading style. DO NOT take this professor.
I did not enjoy this class and didnt gain much out of it. The lectures are daunting and dont make you well prepared for the tests, and the time limits on tests offer little leeway to really think about your answers.
His online class consists of many discussion boards, recorded lectures to watch each week, 4 exams worth a lot of points, & a final. His lecture vids are long. There is a required textbook that can only be purchased at the college as it is special edition. He is a tough grader on discussion boards so make sure you read the text and elaborate well.
Do not take this class unless you want to lose your sanity by not being able to understand whats hes asking in assignments and then getting a bad grade with no feedback.
This is my fifth semester in college and I have never had a professor like him. AWEFUL AWEFUL. There is barely any work which is bad for his case because he is a very tough grader. He doesn’t help students when they go to him and doesn’t even leave comments on assignments to tell you what you did wrong. Very hard to understand his wording too
not good at communicating with students and will not help accommodate. Wouldnt take again.
This professor is by far the worst professor I have ever experienced. He has two big assignments worth 200 points each in the class, but he doesn't explain how to properly do them and when emailed about it he'll tell you that he "doesn't discuss assignments over email." He grades extremely unfairly and it feels like he wants his students to fail.
