You only have a midterm and a final. No homework. Lectures through whole class time, make sure to take good notes. You watch lots of movies. Class is basically lectures and class discussions. It is really fun if you like the subject. He is very nice.
Can I have some more comments from people who've taken this class please? I really want to make sure before it's too late.
Great, cool, easy going teacher. Midterm + Final, that's it. No homework, and its very fun and interesting. Definetly take him.
I took this course thinking it might be interesting. He is not a good teacher. You need to take really good notes. He moves really fast and the tests are pretty difficult i ended up dropping it. I think theres better teachers then him.
This guy is soo funny and i sont think there is anyone who will fall asleep in calss. There is no homework. Just make sure you get all the notes and you will be fine.
They really don't come any better. I avoided taking anthro and it ended up being one of my favorite classes with him being one of my absolute favorite teachers. Lectures are extremely interesting (& he's really funny)and notes are absolutely critical!!!
i definitely recommend this class. you'll feel smarter after taking it. mad knowledge, funny ass dude.i can't stress enough on the notes, it is the most important thing + readings, do those plus extra credit, you'll get a "B".
Very nice funny teacher. He explains the topic in great detail and helps students to learn as best they possibly can.
Very cool teacher who lectures about interesting topics. His papers aren't that difficult and neither were his exams.
He's one of the best teachers I have ever had. His lectures are exteremly interesting and he brings much life to a dull subject. Make sure to take good notes. Youll never fall asleep in this class promise!
This is probably the best college professor ive ever had. He makes the topics real easy to understand and fun. If he only taught other subjects, life would be great.
I had this teacher for winter session, he was really funny. I didn't so much studying, but got a B anyway. He is really cool. I would say this class is easy. Very easy to get along with! Totally! =)
He is a cool guy and a great teacher. He is lively and humorous. Makes the class fun, and is very helpful and clear. Midterm, final, extra credit offered. Thats it. Notes are important.
Great teacher. Knows what he's talking about. Very helpful. Makes a lot of jokes during lectures. Tests are not hard.
A great teacher! Inspiring, entertaining, well researched, and a fantastic musician (I heard!).

Great teacher! Easygoing attitude with lots of humor, keeps the class fun and interesting. Lots of cool films to watch. Lectures are rather intense, so be sure to take notes. Big factor on tests. Highly recommended.
great teacher im not one to acutally post up these things but he is absolutely the best anothropolgy teacher there. 2 test and 2 essay which is soo less stressful for us on the run students. lecture very well explained but dont miss a class :-) tests are also base on his lecture so take good notes.
Religion, Magic, and Witchcraft - it's really as fun as the title sounds! Exploring things such as music and ritualistic drug use, he gives you an overview of some basic anthropology as well as new insights and ways of viewing religion.
I took his class at GCC. The subject is HARD. He tried his best to explain the material. He is very easy going and gave extra credit. If you put in effort he will know and you will be rewarded. Nice guy. If you need antro I highly recomend him
Mr Coltman is a great professor! you'll never feel bored in his class, he teaches very well.Essay questions, but he will tell you what kind of questions will be on the test and final. He curves the grades so it's quite easy to get an A.
Extremley engaging lectures, and he presents the material in a way that makes it interesting. Mostly just listening to lectures and taking notes. But he's a real cool guy
He is one of the nicest professors at PCC. Very personal and sincerly nice. I really enjoyed his lectures and being in his class. He is a cool guy formerly in a rock band. They should hire more teachers like him. Makes going to school a pleasure instead of a drag....Take him...you won't regret it.
2 tests, 1 extra credit (20 pts), 2 papers .. he talks kind of fast but it's ok .. he loves his topic .. very clear and he grades on curl. if you have questions just ask him .. he will be glad to help you.
He has very clear and interesting letures. He wants his students to know the material well and is consequently very helpful in office hours. He reviews what students should know before tests and has a very generous curve on the class.
Very nice teacher. Very interesting. Wants you to do well. Lots of reading and lots of work. Not an easy A. A couple of written papers. Very involved. Interesting class discussions.
This class was a blast. 2 exams, 2 papers and an extra credit paper that will boost your grade. Just do the reading and take notes, you'll do fine. I got a D on the first exam and I ended up with an A in the class. Very generous curve and the lectures are fun. Great prof, take him and you won't regret it!
If you need anthro 1, take him. don't take anybody else. His class is impossiable to fail. He helps you anyway he can so that you won't fail the class!just read the book once, study the note and use common sense on the test. Very easy A but you have to write lots of note fast.
First of all, this teacher is HOTT for all the ladies out there. He plays current music to wind down the class. You will learn in this class and I dont recommend taking anyone else besides him. This guy is so awesome because if you for example miss the Final/Midterm he will understand. People love him so much, they're willing to sit on table tops.
This teacher is pretty cool, but the material is somewhat difficult to understand. However, he makes himself available to help when help is needed. He grades fairly. I recommend him, just be aware that the lecture goes by fast.
Coltman is an excellent teacher. He made the subject very interesting and easy to understand. Loved, loved, loved this guy! I highly recommend him
he is an excellent teacher, he makes the class interesting and easy to understand. he is an easy grader.
Excellent teacher, great guy all around. Actively pay attention and put a little effort into the class, and you've got an A in the bag. Plus, he makes the material interesting and uses memorable examples to explain himself. He tells corny jokes, but they keep the class atmosphere jovial, which is a plus. :-D
Awesome teacher. He made it so interesting, that I would love to take another class with him. He is never boring, trust me. I took this class at 7:15am and I was eager to go every single time.
coltman is great. his lectures are interesting and funny. the class is laid back and you watch a lot of films. not much homework, but his tests are difficult. no one does well on them, the curve on the midterm was 74 for an A. be prepared to take lots of notes, but his humor makes it bearable and you won't fall asleep during class.
There is a lot of lecture notes! Just the exams count, along with a paper. Extra-Credit doesn't really help your grade. This class is based on a curve, so it can or cannot help you.
He is not very clear sometimes but he is interesting. He's really nice and funny though. His class is not like a boring anthro class. Rather, it is a very enlightening experience and I hardly got bored. The only thing is he goes really fast sometimes and you can easily get lost if you don't pay close attention. No HW. He's hot!
He's ok. He's really lively and loves his job and the subject. I didn't really like his style that much though because it was hard for me to pay attention to his Powerpoint lectures. He doesn't put that much info on the slides. Also, his tests are hard! If it wasn't for the curve, I would have failed miserably! I dunno how the hell I got an A!
I love this guy. He is very interesting. enthusiastic, and funny. He is passionate about what he teaches and grades on a curve. But this does not mean it's an easy class because it's not. pay atttention and dont' miss class.
He is a realli cool professor! His lectures are so interesting and detailed. There are lots of notes though and he speaks so fast. Exams aren't that easy, but he curves! He is just so cool, take him if you need this class : )
Very interesting professor, cool piercings, approachable and enthusiastic, the kind who loevs his subject with all his heart. Anthro teachers are awesome -- see Milne, Arenson, Angeloni, Ramos -- best in the whole college. Coltman deserves a fulltime job. Class is easy if you pay attention too!
A GREAT PROFESSOR. LOTS OF NOTE TAKING, TESTS ARE FAIRLY HARD, NO PRESENTATIONS. STUDY YOUR NOTES AND YOULL BE FINE. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU NEED ANTHRO 1
1st thing you will notice as you walk in his class are his earrings and his tongue ring~ 1st teacher i've ever saw that had one!! u will never get sleepy in dis class.. he has his good and bad dayz..but mostly his lectures are too exciting..just watchin him speak is fun!! TAKE nOTEz.. study whats on the study-guide and u will pass dis class with an
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! I highly recommend this class. 2 tests, 1 paper. Lectures are really interesting. Makes you want to major in Anthro.
Nice guy, but not a great teacher. Tests are REALLY hard. Take another teacher if you can!
Funny, smart, interesting, and super sexy!!!
Passoinate and brilliant professor. He is really interested, therefore makes you interested. I highly recommend him because you will learn a lot about your questions to life and why things run they way they do. I believe the tests are fine if you are willing to put in an effort. If you aren't, then why are you even in school?
Okay that doesn't even look like him on that picture! He's HOT, in a non conventional way. His intelligence also makes him hot. He'll never put you down and is always open to what his students say. I learned a heck lot. He's also very eccentric, hoop earrings, plugs and he loves rock & roll. I am mesmerized by this teacher.
This teacher may not look like the typical conservative yuppy. But this teacher is not only helpful, he plays MUSIC in class to get his students prepared, he's cool/hip, and he makes the classroom comfortable. HE is HOTT too in person..haha. I recommend him highly, tests are fair, easy A-B if you do the read/lect! Must take course at PCC!A++++++++++
awesome teacher.. very interesting guy. tests are easy and graded on a curve. easy A.
Undeniably one of the coolest professors at PCC. I recommend his class. You're gonna have lots of fun. Even if you don't like Anthro, he still finds ways to connect the lectures with real life issues (i.e. current events, latest gossips...yes, he talks about Britney).
Professor Coltman is a very entertaining guy. He will make you look forward to your class because he make it fun. I would take him again just for the fun of it.
I was considering dropping this class even before I have ever taken it because he wasn't there the first day...but on the second day i showed up late and was BLOWN away by his charisma great guy and teacher. I'm not dropping.
hes cool. hes real chill and his lectures are soooo interesting. his tests are difficult but he grades on a curve, very nice grader. hes pretty cute too; hes got a hot personality on top of that!
Loves what he is doing and it shows. Very straight to the point and strong emphasis on good note taking. His class was so interested I'm considering changing my major from cognitive psych to evolutionary psych.
Awesome prof. Interesting and straight forward. Got an A in the class. Take notes on his lectures and you'll be fine. You don't even need the book. Only a midterm and a final (essay form); homework isn't mandatory.
Prof Coltman is a young, vibrant, and interesting professor. Class is interesting but covers alot of material. Class can feel long and boring sometimes. TESTS ARE HARD! All the answers can be a possibility, as the person before me noted. I got a B in his class and I am usually an A student.
He is a great lecturer who balances fact with humor. He also likes to divulge great details about his personal life which is always fun. If only he would show up to class more...
He's a great teacher. He definitly knows how to keep the class interested. Lectures are easily understood. His class is fun stuff, time passes by quick.
AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MY UNDERSTANDING OF LECTURE, AND WASN'T INTERESTED IN ANTH AT ALL.BUT HIS LECTURE WAS FUN,EASY TO UNDERSTAND EVEN FOR ME,& HE IS VERY HELPFUL!!HIS TEST IS NOT EASY, IF YOU DON'T READ TEXTBOOK AND NOTE.ALMOST OF HIS TEST COMES FROM HIS PRE-TEST.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
He makes the class very fun and enjoyable for all - and he makes sure everyone follows along when he lectures. He's a very nice, cool guy but you have to attend class every day and study hard if you want to do well in the class. Slackers will be disappointed.
hes a really good teacher. i was first concerned about his grading system b/c he only gives out 2 test and a final...thats it. but hes grades on a curve so hes not so bad. hes very energetic and funny so i guarantee ull have a good time.
I'm in love with him. He's so captivating and especially with his lectures. He's a wonderful professor, and knows his stuff. You'd benefit from such an instructor. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful, and very fair grader. Really, I love him. His intellect pulls you. Come home with me Lee!
He takes great interest in what he teaches and tries really hard to make everything interesting. It gets pretty complicated though and his powerpoint slideshows aren't much help. I felt like they were more helpful to him than to us. He expects a lot from his essay tests.
Mr. Coltman was really fun. He could be vague at time and I found note-taking in his class difficult because of the briefness of his power point presentations. He gets really excited about what he's teaching, which is nice, but he can sometimes get annoying, especially if you take an early class!
His class would have been funner if it wasnt hard, basically grade was based on no homework one essay paper which was confusing, 1 ec, midterm, final. His midterm and final were 35 multiple choice and 2 out of 3 essay questions which he expected each question to be answered within 3 pages. Was a fun teacher and very knowledgable/smart! take him!
This class is highly recommended. It's definitely challenging because the grading really measures your understanding of concepts and ideas, not random facts. The power point presentations are more of a guide-- write down as much as you can. He's entertaining, informative, free for extra help, and truly interested in his students and material.
The best professor i've had by far. He makes everything so interesting. If you take another professor for anthro1 or athro2 you will be bored out of your mind.Coltman makes you think and enjoy the class. Again....Best professor i've ever had!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
You can tell he's very passionate and knowledgable about what he's teaching. Huge amounts of energy during morning lectures. Don't bother copying straight off his powerpoints because it won't help you; just take quick notes from what he says. Grade depends on a midterm, 2 page paper, an e.c. paper, & a final. Grades on a curve but tests are tricky.
great professor. i took his class at 7 in the morning and i was not only awake but drawn to the lecture. tests are hard grades on a curve. very interesting subject and he makes it even more fun!!!RECOMMEND!
Deserves full time position.
Awsome teacher!!! highly recommend. You will not be bored in class at all. However, do take notes and study them/memorize them and you'll do great.
Great lectures, lots of class discussion to keep it interesting. Good use of videos/PPT slides in lecture. 1 paper (2-3 pages), mid-term and a final. He expects you to think outside the box and not just repeat back his lectures (i.e. be a good student!). Be on time and don't sleep in class. Take good notes, read the books and think for yourself.
Really great professor.
Great teacher! Exciting, funny and interesting even in his 7am class. I was never bored or tired and I am NOT a morning person. No busy work, just papers and exams. Study and you'll do well. Don't be late. Lot's of debating in this class. He wants you to speak up and participate.
One of the BEST professors I've ever had. Interesting and funny lectures, no homework - just a midterm and final + attendance. His tests are fairly easy if you come to class and pay attention. RECOMMENDED. He's pretty hot too for a man his age =)
This class has lots of movies. 2 short essays for Midterm, 1 Extra Credit, and 1 three-pages final paper. A lot of patience with students and jokes around a lot. HE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
professor coltman is an amazing teacher here at pcc. I am taking my time to write about this professor because i think he really cares about he's students and that's something that i really take in consideration. He haves a great technique to teach. he dedicates he's time for the student. He is the best professor from the social science divisio
omggg i love him!! such an amazing teacher! hes really easy and give you all the answers for the mid terms and exams. he tried to scare us away in the begining of the winter session by saying the class was hard but it really wasnt. very very good teacher, i highly recomend him.
i had absolutely no interest in anthropology whatsoever before taking his class. was just taking it because it was one of my prereqs but SO GLAD i ended up taking him. awesome teacher, funny, personable, understanding. a little hard. you need to do your work but he makes it very interesting. almost considered switching as anthro major. GREAT prof!!
This professor is GREAT. Very fun class and interesting videos and group discussions. Essays are fairly easy. If anthro is your major take him!! If you're taking it for a GE take this class..you wont regret it!!
Very cool. Quite smart (even if he denies it). Passionate teacher. Worth-while experience. The more you participate, the more you'll get out of his class.
Professor Coltman is by far a really educated guy. No hw. Give extra credit. Midterm and final(both short essay style). Make sure to take notes from his power points. He gives a midterm and final study guide and goes over exactly whats on the test. Tries scare you but is really funny and you will learn a lot. I got a B without trying. Just study!!!
No hw, grades are based on only a midterm & final, and a term paper. Nice and funny guy, but he grades hard. i really thought i did well on my midterm but i got a D on it instead.you only watch videos in his class.he gave out 1 extra credit assignment.his powerpoint lectures aren`t clear and its very vague.class is laid back, but he's a hard grader
BEST. PROF. EVERRRRR. i took as many of his classes as i could at pcc while i was there. im at a uc now but i still miss his classes! you dont really need to read (i never did) just pay attention in class, which is easy since hes HILARIOUS. dont be late tho, he'll get pissed and make fun of you lol. w/e he's teaching, TAKE IT. you wont be sorry :)
Prof. Coltman, what i cannot said about a professor that actually makes u think out of the box. HE IS HARD GRADER TO PEOPLE THAT DONT THINK, so start thinking in his classes. he like people that participate, 2 exams one extra credit. I was lost in this class, but u need to leave all what u learn on the side u will good in this class
Coltman is a jolt of caffeine in the AM. Brilliant guy; he challenges your critical thinking. Yes, it can be intimidating initially, but if you're inquisitive, you'll be just fine in this class, trust ne. Participation is a must, so just be prepared to speak up. You know if you're the type of person for this class: A thinker, not a regurgitator!
He is so cool. His lectures are interesting. He basically gives you the answers in the finals and all you have to do is memorize it.
He is an awesome lecturer, really opens your mind about societies and different cultures. I loved it and would recommend him only to hard working students. He does grade hard, but hey who cares if your a nice, chill, and ESP funny man! :D
intimidating, intelligent, challenging, honest, passionate, charming, supportive, understanding, insightful, respectful, admirable, enthusiastic, genuine, attractive, memorable......stunned me into submission.
His tests are really challenging but they're not impossible. He likes people challenging his thoughts and participating a lot in class. He's no doubt the liveliest professor that I know of and at the same time, funniest as well. He's very understanding and always willing to help his students. Don't be intimidated by him because he's not that bad.
It's Dr. House! By far, the most engaging professor. Too bad I've already taken all the other classes he's teaching, but by other professors. Boo
Professor Coltman is a very knowledgeable man, he helped me out a lot to a point where i think i was annoying him (sorry professor) I enjoyed the class but it invloves A LOT of studying I recommend flash cards for every concept and model he goes over.Thank you Professor Coltman=)
Does not call on students, Was basically all lecture. Used the textbook a little bit. Gives extra credit opportunities. Grading is mainly based off of the midterm and final. Thoroughly reviews before each exam, so you have a good idea of what will be asked. Exams were 8 short answer essay questions, so you really need to study.
he is weird. ehh. i guess he is funny :/ but weird. i dont really like his teaching. i wish he would use black board.....-___-
I got my first class with him through a lottery because I needed some anthro class to satisfy my G.E. After taking just 1 of his class, I was so impressed with his lectures I couldnt get enough, so I started taking any and every class he offered, not to boost my GPA or up my units, but simply because HE was offering the course. THATS HOW GOOD HE IS
He's kind of weird and a bit funny. i didn't study much because i don't understand this topic much until the end. most likely, he'll go over what'll be on the test. the test were all short essays, but i wrote a few sentences and passed with a C.sometimes during notes, he'll say to write something cuz it'll be on the test.
Hated Anthro. prior to taking this class. He was somehow able to make this class fun and enjoyable. Professor Coltman is not only intelligent about his field but about many other things as well. Reminds me a lot of House from his witty dark humor to the way he dresses and his voice. Take him if you want to have a fun and rewarding learning exp
Prof. Coltman is a very energetic professor so you CANNOT fall asleep in his class! Passionate about anthro. Take down your own notes (just write what he says) b/c his powerpoint are more of a reminder for him. Be prepared to think b/c he likes the out-of-the-box answers. And don't be afraid to talk in class. Highly recommended professor!
Coltman is just awesome. Take his class if you want to incorporate humor into your learning environment. If you are passionate about the class, I guarantee he will enhance your analytical skills. Thank you Coltman!!!
The class was extremely interesting and Professor Coltman is clearly passionate about his work. Unfortunately, I tried numerous times to reach out to him and receive help to better understand the subject and he gave no response. Don't bother emailing him cause he will NOT respond. Huge disappointment in the end.
he is so far one of the best teachers I ever had. However, in order to understand his lectures, u should read the texts before coming to class. Grades are based on midterm and final exams + extra credits :) he sometimes let us leave early :)
He's very funny. His class is not boring at all. Grades are based on midterm & final. Midterm is easy(8 Q's) I got A+. Final is just a little bit harder (12 Q's). Make sure you do the extra credits. They are pretty easy, but help a lot. I didn't spend much time for this class. When he lectures, don't talk...You'll learn :)
Coltman cares about his students, go to his office hours. No hw, 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 extra credits. You're allowed to record his lectures, it helps a lot! Take notes and study them carefully then you'll be fine! Do the extra credits! Don't know y some ppl failed the midterm cuz it wasn't that hard. He gives study guides. Don't worry!
I didn't really use the book at all.I got an "A". Prof Coltman is funny. He tells us a lot of jokes, which make the whole class stay awake. Questions in the book to answer as HW but u don't really need to do them. He doesn't grade or look at them. Midterm is easy, study the study guide. Final is a little bit harder so spend more time on studying
Professor Coltman is so passionate about this subject. He is such an enthusiastic teacher and hilarious too so paying attention is not a prob. No hw just midterm and final but he gives study guides which are very helpful. I took his classes during summer sessions and passed them both. I would take his other classes if I could. Def recommended!
He's really funny so its not hard to pay attention to his lectures. Drops the F word a lot to get your attention. Lets us out 30 min early all the time. There are study guides for the midterm and final, but his questions are pretty hard. TAKE NOTES DURING HIS LECTURES! HE WILL TELL YOU WHATS ON THE TEST.
He is the most engaging and entertaining professor at PCC. His class is not super easy and you have to attend all classes. However, you can get by using your notes and paying attention, he tells you what is on the test. He enjoys the subject matter. He does use adult language, but never directed at students. He is very respectful of the students.
He's very passionate about his job, and he makes discussions interesting. He's a good professor and grades on a curve. Textbook usage is very limited. All you have to do is take good notes, study well, and memorize. I advise you form a study group, and make flash cards.
Great Class, I took all Anthro 1,2, and 4 with Prof Coltman. He is fun, energetic. A tad imtimidating at first, but then he's really cool. The test are your own analysis. OR HE TOLD YOU THE EXACT QUESTION WITH THE exact answers. Hard maybe for some but he goes off powerpoint and tests, and practice tests so you can at least get a C
Great professor! He leads a very intellectually stimulating class with interesting discussions. The midterm and final can be challenging, but he basically tells you the questions in advance, and the answers can be found in his lectures. I highly recommend him.
I took a 6 week summer class with Prof Coltman & I heard Anthro was going to be lame, but Coltman changed my mind. He is never boring and actually makes you think so you don't just sit there doing nothing. No HW, 1 extra credit, 1 midterm and 1 final. He gives your practice tests, USE THEM! More lecture than book. I would take him again.
This was my fourth semester, and he is one of the coolest professors I've taken so far. His exams are really hard, but he tells you EXACTLY what to study. He'll be happy to go over your exams to tell you what went wrong. I really appreciate that. His notes are really important, so if you miss class, you won't pass.
I've been at pcc for too long and this professor (along with Uranga) has been the best I've taken so far he should really be full time professor! I really recommend taking him he is so real and honest! Please study the study exams and you will be fine! And do the extra credit it helps a lot and is very interesting! Wish he taught every subject!lol
Super clear lectures and great speaker. He's really cool as well, very intelligent and down to earth. Tests can be difficult but he tells you everything that you'll need to know in the study guide. Great teacher!
Took the Honors class and memorize a lot. He will give you a practice midterm and final and you gotta memorize all of them to ensure your A. Most questions are directly from the practiced but some Qs are based on notes. Pay super attention when he says "this will be on the exam" during class because it'll really be there. Lectures fun & recommend.
Very intriguing lectures. Cares about his students thinking critically and thus expects participation. Very intimidating, however emailing him for feedback is a compromise. Speak up if you don't understand. Tests are pretty hard;the format is short answer. He specifically says what will be on the exams, but take detailed notes on lecture. *Honors
Took him for the summer honors class and it was not bad at all! He lectured the whole time but he made it interesting and p much summed up what we needed to know from the book. We even listened to podcasts that were relevant to the lecture. Only had a midterm & final which he gave thorough study guides for plus a 10pg paper (bc honors). Loved him!
Colman is by far my favorite professor at PCC. I took his class during summer and it was VERY difficult but, absolutely amazing and I would take it again. He is very organized but also very funny, and wants to hear your feed back and wants to be sure you understand the content. You have to study hard!
I took this class summer 2015 and Professor Coltman was beyond amazing. Lectures were thought provoking. He really makes you think. We had a midterm and final. (He gives study guides) Plus a 10 page paper since it was an honor class. I was intimidated the first few classes, but I am so glad I stuck through it. One of my favorite professors ever.
I adore Mr. Coltman, he's an exceptional professor. Goes off power point and lectures, he's passionate about his work and humorous :) don't miss class! Not an easy class. PARTICIPATE! I can't stress this enough. If the class seems like it's mostly him lecturing, start asking questions (about the material) it will make him like you guys more.
Professor Coltman was exceptional. He makes sure students understand the material. He would connect the class material to students lives to remember important terms. Love his optimism. He makes the class environment beautiful and enjoyable. An asset of Pasadena City College Anthropology Department.
If you want to learn he is there for you. He put in more effort than then class did. Take him and be hungry for knowledge and he'll support you the whole way. He's also a great DJ. Really glad to have taken his class.
This guys is the *explicative* best, he's so smart in a multitude of subjects that I wish he could teach more than just anthro. He's super funny super understanding and I honestly enjoyed every class with him. Take him!
Exceptional professor, with a clear passion for what he teaches. Classes are where you will get the bulk of your information for class. No hand outs, get ready to take notes--he allows photos to be taken of his powerpoints. Uses good analogies and metaphors to make sure students understand complex concepts.
Coltman is AMAZING. He made me walk out of his class loving anthropology every day (not even my major). He cares and loves what he does. His tests are tough but he'll tell you exactly what to study, and the work is totally fair and clear. It's easy to follow the course if you pay attention. He made every day enjoyable, and I really learned a lot
This is no doubt this professor loves his job and is absolutely hilarious. The only thing that I don't like about his class is too many things to study.
He has to be one of the funniest professors I've taken. He really knows his stuff for this class and really preps for this class. He makes the course interesting and the best part he makes you think about things you never thought of before. Tests are two part a written essay gives the prompt before test and canvas multiple choice.
Prof Coltman is a great Professor!! He really knows his material and will make it interesting for you if you attend class. Reading and lectures are KEY!! He is a tough grader, but will give you everything you need to know. Also... if you are offended easily--- don't take him.
He definitely requires participation so if you're afraid of being called on then he's not the guy, but it's mostly opinion based questions. majority of the class was films with some notes but for the most part an easy A. We hardly used the textbook in class but you do need it for papers.
Prof coltman is so awesome. He gives amazing lectures. He is hilarious and really kind. I took his summer classes and he will give practice tests which is pretty much cover the whole exam. It was really helpful. He has extra credit, too. I am pretty sure you will get a A if you follow his lectures and do the practice test.
One of the best professors I've had so far. His classes are very interesting and straight forward. The class was based mostly off lectures and in class essays which were easy A's. Cotlman was a very great speaker and class was never boring :)
One of the smartest people I have ever had as a professor. You will learn things that you will most likely never hear from other professors. Extremely knowledgeable and his lectures are one of a kind. Take them!
Lee is one of the best teachers ive had at PCC. You can tell that he is very passionate about what he is teaching. He is a very funny guy with lectures that keep you interested. He also does give you some good college tips. Hes great you wont regret taking him.
Such an amazing professor that I took during summer. He gives us amazing lecture through teaching the necessary and main point only. During lecture, he points out which will be out on exam. Listen to his stories and examples to help understand more about the class content. Want to take his class again next semester, but my schedule didn't work out.
Very good professor. His lectures are amazing and very informational. He helps with the mid term essay, basically if you prepare for it and send it to him, he will look over it. He is really funny, and lightens up the mood in class. The class is not that hard, just have to read over the notes, study, and actually do the work.
You must have to go to his class his lectures are very informative so make sure to take good notes. We had a quiz, midterm, and final. For both the midterm and final he gave us a practice midterm/final. He told us exactly what would be on and what to study. If you go to class, take notes and read/review your notes and textbook you can pass.
The best professor I have met in pcc!! I actually learn things even if i arent really paying much attention in class. Loves his feedback which will make u push urself to pay full effort, try the very best of yourself in his class. Not an easy A but as long as u ask, hell try his best to help. Dont hesitate to take him
The majority of the class is lectures and movies. We had only 4 assignments during the whole semester; two multiple choice tests and two papers. Super Easy. He is never boring or dull in his lectures and the videos he shows during class are always super fascinating.
Professor Coltman is really funny and gets you engaged in the class! Theres not much homework and you just need to understand what hes teaching. Hes really chill and jokes around a lot
hes a super fun professor and i definitely would recommend
I always enjoy Prof Coltmans classes. He makes these subjects fun ans easy to remember the material. Our grades were made up of the midterm and the final so it is important you get the material down. He gives a study guide almost identical so it really isn't difficult. You get some answers to study from book but most from lecture.
By far one of the best professors at PCC. Lectures are interesting and funny, but you do need to take extensive notes. Grade is from only midterm and final, but extra credit is available. Exams are short answer, but he outlines which questions will be on the tests. Would definitely take again - I'm in his ANTH 2 class this semester.
Prof. Coltman was easily one of the best teachers Ive ever had. Whether were talking elementary through high school or stictly college. This guy knows his stuff. Knows so much information about things that arent even related to anthropology, very quick-witted and intelligent. A lot of teachers can learn from this guy
My favorite professor at PCC. VERY SMART DUDE. Funny too, and carries a lecture very well. Attendance, participation, and note taking guarantee a good grade. Very little homework/tests. Rather he wants you to think critically and engage in class. Gives feedback when requested. Take him!
Took his lab class in person during the short winter session. Super awesome teacher. He expects you to work with your group daily and try to figure things out together. There was a midterm and a final. I got a low C on the midterm, but was able to work my way up to an A by completing all the labs, extra credit, and doing well on the final.
One of the best professors I have encountered. With a unique teaching style, he will have you thinking deeply, laughing out loud, and learning a lot more than you thought you would. Essays and test questions come from book chapters, lectures, and personal research. He appreciates students who want to debate him. I would take another of his classes
I took his Cultural Anthropology class. Professor Coltman gives the most engaging, funny lectures everyday. On the day I knew I would miss one of his classes, I felt bad that I would miss out on whatever funny thing he was going to say. That's how great of a lecturer he is. Two Canvas tests, one in-class essay, and one printed essay. That's all.
Professor Coltman was good. His class could be a bit slow, and the (online) midterm and final was all on information directly from the book. No homework and pretty minimal effort is needed to pass. Fair grader, really wants his students to think critically
Essays are not my strengths, however extra credit was offered for the 3 essays I had in this class. I was basically a B+ average in this class. I was able to finish this class with an A by doing the extra credit by writing an additional essay. His lectures were very interesting and funny. He has a good sense of humor.
Very interesting and engaging teacher if you get into the subject. Funny and vulgar as well. Class is taken in a "all religion's are fake" point of view. He is very helpful however and makes sure his students know what they are getting into and helps guide you on what you should do. He is very knowledgeable as well. 2 Online tests, 2 Essays.
I took anthropology : religion , magic and witchcraft . Super awesome professor to take ! Very passionate , youll be able to sense that off the bat ! Make sure to attend to his class everyday its very important you do so , youll miss allot of information if you do not attend . Definitely recommend taking his class !
Few quizzes and test. Heavily loaded for grade. Over-bearing for an introduction course.
Professor Coltman is awesome! His lectures are amazing and you can truly feel his passion for teaching Anthropology. I recommend that you take good notes as he will barrage you with different topics which I really liked as it helped me in writing the essays for his class. Also, don't skip class because every second in Prof. Coltman's class is GOLD
Coltman gives great lectures, but you really gotta pay attention to do well on the essays. There's not too much work in the class, but I recommend taking good notes since his lectures are fast paced. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Took him for winter. He is funny and tells real life scenarios to keep you awake. beware of his language but he is definitely relatable. He treats students like adults and tells you everything that will be on the exam. would take him again.
he is literally the most amazing professor i have ever had. no joke. the guy is amazing. i look forward to his 7am class and honestly wish it was everyday. just take him!! the tests are super specific in what hes looking for but it makes sense for the class cause its important. LOVE HIMMMMMM
THIS IS FOR HIS ANTHRO LAB CLASS ONLY! so he gives us the questions to the midterm and finals word for word. literally, he gives it to us. so yeah. his nice
He is one of those professors that is hilarious, clear about what he expects, and is happy to answer questions. He obviously loves what he does and it shows in lectures. My major is in photography meaning science courses are tough for me. With Coltman it didn't matter for I am taking a second class with him just for fun,
I took Anthro 4 with him and he made it so much fun to learn I never wanted to skip class!!! A good amount of the tests are lecture and reading assignment based. There was an online quiz, an essay midterm, an in-class essay, and the final was online too. DEFINITELY take notes of his lectures and the films he shows, emphasis on the lectures.
Honestly a very cool professor. Most understanding and chill professor. He is also very passionate about what he teaches. The book isn't really used in class, but be sure to read on your own for the tests. Never skip class because his lectures are very interesting and you will need the notes for his test. The films that he showed were interesting!!
Hes a great professor, the class was never dull or boring. He doesnt really take attendance but if you miss youre probably going to miss something important. The book was never used, if I would have read I could have gotten a better great. Over all was a great class.
He asks a lot on his very hard multiple choice midterm and final BUT he gives you three tries AND shows you wrong answers. Just be prepared to put three hours into it. Excellent lecturer, really cares about his job and loves getting new opinions from the students. Loves a good hot take. Talk to him after class and he'll love you and help you out
Dr. Coltman might be my favorite professor at PCC! He is knowledgable, passionate about the subject, and is helpful. For anth 1, he gives good notes, and his lectures are entertaining as he doesn't draw many boundaries on what he says.
Professor Coltman is hands-down the best professor Ive ever had at PCC. Hes so funny and makes all his lectures really interesting. I signed up for his 7 am class, but I still looked forward to his class. Two big tests are the midterm and final, but he gives you a study guide with the exact questions and answers on the examines. Highly recommend!
Professor Coltman was lecture heavy throughout the entire semester. He graded us on only a midterm, small quiz, and the final exam. The exams were intensive in detail and lengthy, tons of information to keep up with. Nice guy but not a nice course structure.
You only get graded on 2 tests! This class is a joke. His tests are ridiculously hard, and he definitely does NOT grade on a curve.
Studied for over three day straight, and got rewarded with a D. One of the worst professors I've ever had, he is one of the hardest graders. We are only graded on a midterm, a final, and a quiz, and he doesn't post grades on canvas. (ALSO, don't bother wasting money on the book, you done need it)
He always goes off on tangents, and his tests are very hard. I'm not sure why all the reviews here are so positive, but his class was terrible. He kind of hints that as long as you do well on the final and finish the extra credit, he'll give you a decent grade, but that wasn't the case for me. Beware of Mr. Coltman!!
Very bad professor, I absolutely dont know how he has 4.5 rating. I was a good student and got a D. Cant imagine how many others did as well. Your grade comes from your extra credit and final only. I studied for a week, 2 hours a day and still got a D on the final. My other classes got As and Bs. Really bad, extremely off topic, weird, not good
Hardest class I have ever taken, his final he made 10x harder then the practice final, he acts like this class is at Stanford. He lectures everyday and my grade is N/a on final day. Take another professor who realizes it is community college. Tests are 10 questions of all free response, he doesnt believe in multiple choice. Do not take this class.
Pretty damn good prof for Anthropology. His lectures are rarely ever dry unless the subject itself is. He only grades two tests but as long as you pay attention in lecture and actually study the practice tests he gives, you should get at least a B.
Considering that this class was taken during Winter semester, Coltman literally provided us all the info we needed to prepare for the Midterm and Final exam. He also offers extra credit worth 20-25 points. Always ask questions in class if u are confused! He does an excellent job explaining everything. Overall, he is an A+++ professor! TAKE HIM!!
Midterm and Final are basic grades. Gives plenty of time to review and study guides for both of these exams. Very thought provoking classes with lots of insight. Pay attention and takes notes and the class should not be too difficults
Amazing professor I had no sort of interest in anthropology but his passion and teaching makes you so interested and engaged youll want to learn more. Takes his time to make sure youll pass offers plenty of extra credit. Pay attention and study and youll pass. Only way I see someone failing this course is from not trying. You must TRY
Awesome guy, really the perfect professor for a religion, magic, and witchcraft course. Every lecture was interesting and easy to understand. It's okay if you don't know the terms or people he is talking about, they stick with you over time. You have two exams and a paper, all graded fairly. He truly cares for his students, fun class not a burden
I highly recommend taking this course with this professor. His lectures are informative and engaging.
Took Anthro 1 Lab Summer '20 online for COVID19. Found textbook for $20 online, need to read to fill out lab sheets. Homework was easy but slightly hard when it got to the actual lab work since it's mostly educational guessing without access to the specimens. Midterm was easy but final was a bit on the hard side. Easy grader, great professor!
He is BY FAR, THE BEST professor I've ever had at PCC. He is super interesting and will tie lectures to personal experiences for more understanding. He actually enjoys life unlike some professors. Wants to make this class as fun as possible. He also cares about his students and their grades. So sad I won't have him again. :( Best. Professor. Ever.
The class I took, Anth004 was very easy, anyone can get an A in this class. Professor Coltman is a very engaging teacher and he is obviously passionate about the things that he is lecturing on overall I would strongly recommend this class.
I took Anthropology of magic, witchcraft, and religion with this professor and it blew my mind. Professor Coltman's class should be mandatory.
He has zoom classes but its not mandatory. But watch the lectures bc u get tested on what he says (like his opinions). He is hilarious! Easiest grader ever. His two tests are 240 min 3 tries over 6 days. If u cant pass in one try u def can in 3. Totally recommend for credit or just for fun!
I took Professor Coltman in Spring '19 at 7am and he's lucky his lectures and material were so interesting otherwise I would have slept all class. He gives great critiques and analyses. He isn't the most traditional professor, but he does a great job engaging the class and making sure you get something out of it.
I took Fall 2021 ANTH1 online class & Professor Coltman couldn't have been better! His lectures were engaging, interesting, & exciting. He really enjoyed talking with students &/or receiving messages & questions. The class was made up of weekly discussions+responses & quizzes. I loved it so much I'm taking ANTH4 in the Spring. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
He's a very cool guy. I'm not a huge fan of anthropology at all, but his lectures were always engaging. For midterms and finals, you get 3 attempts and you can see which answers you got right. Would recommend if you're trying to finish gen eds.
Blew my mind!! Amazing professor, amazing lectures. Lots of stuff I still don't understand because it's a pretty in depth, intense subject, but Professor Coltman is AWESOME!!
Amazing! Intense subject, but Professor Coltman is an incredible lecturer. This class blew my mind!! He is awesome. Everyone should take this class!
This professor challenges my mind in every class. He presents the material in a manner which asks me to critically think about all I am digesting. He has an amazing skill of engaging all who are there to learn and to question without feeling there will be any disregard by him or the fellow students. I would highly recommend this class.
Coltman is an informal yet respectful and engaged professor. You basically don't have to purchase the textbook as long as you pay attention during lectures and take good notes. Very participation/discussion heavy. He genuinely cares about his students and is committed to making sure they understand the material. I recommend any of his classes.
TAKE HIM!! I don't ever leave reviews for professors, but I definitely wanted to for him. Not only is he entertaining in his lectures, but they are also easy to follow. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Make sure to study and practice his practice exams. Usually almost identical. Overall, very interesting class and would take again.
I rarely give 5's but Professor Coltman is an absolute gem. I took him for Biological Anthropology over the summer. He is very passionate about the subject and is absolutely hilarious. I took the class for GE credit and was expecting a grueling class. But Professor Coltman makes a normally boring subject extremely interesting and fun.
Professor Coltman is one of the best professors ever. His material is decently challenging but he makes learning it fun and engaging. You can tell he is very passionate about teaching and anthropology. I would recommend him to any person that is interested in anthropology or just need credit for IGETC.
took his spring 2022 anthro course. no textbook required. attendance isn't mandatory, however he only assigns three exams and a paper. lectures are recorded but if you don't take the time to learn, then you won't know anything for those assignments. he accepts late work as much he can. his lectures are also very interesting! 9/10
Amazing professor who cares about his students. He always makes sure to share hotlines after heavy topics and gives trigger warnings. I learned a lot in Antro 004, I loved every lecture and documentary we watched. He is respectful of the cultures we study. I did not have homework, so reading was a fun bonus toward the class.
The lectures were easy to understand and he was really funny. Speak with him if you need help, and he will help you. He does go out of his way to help students to find resources. Take notes if you struggling. The tests were really easy, it's just what he covered in class. He inspired me to pursue my career! PAY ATTENTION AND YOU WILL PASS!
A really hard class for those who aren't good at memorization.Grade is depending on only one midterm, one final, and one extra credit. 85% is an A, the best way to get an A in this class is to memorize all the solutions from practice midterm/final WORD BY WORD, which will get you 80+%. And do the extra credit then you're guaranteed to get an A.
best teacher i've ever had!!! Professor Coltman is passionate about what he teaches, so every lecture is engaging, fun, and relevant, and you learn so much. i always felt energized after his class. he respects and cares about his students and genuinely wants them to succeed. the class isn't easy, but there's no homework. just take notes and study!
Took Professor Coltman for ANTH004. He's an absolute nut, but in a good way. Lectures are wonderful, participation is essential. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Most of class is discussion/lectures and at-home reading; only real work is online multiple-choice midterm and final and in-class final essay. Make sure to review reading before the final essay.
(I took his winter course) He believes that you shouldn't be breaking your back for a one unit class. He is very understanding, class is engaging, he's funny and you will always be entertained. Loved his class.
awesome professor with insightful lectures!!! :D
very easy class and it was actually pretty interesting easy A
This is my favorite teacher I've ever had at PCC. He's very down to earth and understanding, and his lectures are very interesting! Though there was no homework, make sure to PAY ATTENTION because the midterm and final are difficult, and those make up almost all of your grade. I definitely recommend if your main objective is learning!
Awesome professor, awesome lectures, awesome overall. Be prepared to take notes though.
Engaging and insightful lectures from Professor Coltman. The class isn't a breeze, but with careful notes and studying, including tools like Unstuck AI, you can do well. Rewarding experience overall.
Professor Coltman is one of the best professors I've had at PCC by far. Not only are his lectures fun and engaging but you can really see his passion for what he does in how he interacts with the students of his class. If you're an anthro major this is a MUST take. I am taking another class of his next semester, Highly recommend him! he's a riot!
Very passionate and caring about his students! He's pretty forgiving while grading, and it's clear he wants his students to succeed. The only graded items are the midterm and final, but he gives study guides that outline expectations/questions/answers VERY clearly. Attending lectures isn't mandatory, but definitely gives huge advantage.
DO NOT TAKE THE WINTER VERSION OF THIS CLASS!! Professor Coltman is a good professor when it comes to lecturing. However this class should not be condensed to 6 weeks! Out of the 6 he only teaches for 2 gives a midterm on the fourth does a final review on the fifth and the final is on the 6th. This class should be online. Tests are very hard.
I took his class over the winter and I would say it's easy. His lectures are good but you do have to put in the work for an A. He gives out practice tests before the midterm/final and they're basically the same as the actual tests, so it's really just memorization. I loved this class and would definitely recommend him if you have the choice!
Professor Coltman class was such a fun class to take over the summer last year! His lectures are pretty heavy so make sure to take notes. He did give us a study guide though. His study guides are pretty much the answer key to the exams so you have to memorize it. Overall, fun class experience and really wants his students to pass and succeed.
This is my 2nd time taking Prof. Coleman and my rating has not changed, his classes are worth the 2nd rating. I give my highest recommendation as an Anthropology student. Honestly, even if you're filling a requirement his classes will be a treat to attend and he's very understanding of your workload in other classes, don't walk, run to register!
His classes are so entertaining, you can really feel the passion when he is teaching. It is VERY lecture heavy, notebooks will be your best friend. He only grades the midterm and final (theres extra credit too). A really great professor!
Took Anthro 101 this Summer and Prof Coltman was such a great professor! I am so glad the positive reviews before taking this class were so accurate because he really does put so much care into his students, is passionate about what he teaches, and the class was honestly not that hard! As long as you pay attention in class and can memorize well!
Anthropology department at PCC deserves more love for sure. This professor is the only person really keeping it alive. His lectures are so interesting, you can really tell he's very passionate about he's subject. The only way to fail this class is if you choose not to learn from it. Def take anthropology of religion witchcraft and magic
Absolute goat of a teacher. If you need an anthro class please take him!
I took Professor Coltman's Anthro 2 in Spring 2025. Overall, it is a very easy class. There are 2 online exams worth 2/3 of your grade. 3 attempts and you will see what you got right or wrong with every attempt. The in-class essay is 1/3 of the grade. You will get the prompt for the essay ahead of time, so you can write out the essay at home.
He was really fun and energetic. Reminded me of the streamer Jerma or paul the alien from the movie Paul. Really do not regret taking him only three assignments the whole semester. Gonna miss him...
