Very tough class. Prof. is not very good at explaining things. Only works examples of problems during class, does not teach why you are doing things. Works problems from the textbook and gets them wrong almost every single time. Tests and homework are extremely hard. Lab work does not make any sense at all.
He drops one test grade. which test he curves ALOT I have recieved D's on all tests but with curve i get a low B. READ THE BOOK. it helps. Homework is difficult but doesnt count a lot towards final grade. quizzes are announced, one question, not hard if you study. Labs are easy. He is willing to help if you ask, also tutor john helps. I expect a B
The tests are difficult, even if you study. But the curves are always around 20 points. Read the book! Get a study group and go over the review problems and print practice tests. Should make your experience less painful.
I studied his class for Spring 2012. He is very nice and helpful. He is also generous by giving huge curves on every test. As long as you study before the exams, you will be fine. Reading and practicing the problems in textbook are crucial. I love this class very much. You will get the grade you want, just get your butts off.
Real nice guy, really tries hard for the students to understand the material, not an easy class but it is doable, Tutor John has a class that helped alot.
The class started off with about 30 people and ended with 10. His lectures were never clear and his tests are very hard. All of his tests had to be curved for the class to pass. He does not offer extra credit.
Chemistry isn't an easy class at all, and it wont be any easier with Jennings, but he is always willing to help, and if you study you will do ok... Good luck making an A.
Dr. Jennings is a really kind prof. His biggest atribute is that he cares about the students. Would recommend any day. Chemistry just sucks.
Dr. Jennings was an alright prof. Sometimes during lectures he would confuse himself, therefore confusing us a bit. His tests are extremely hard, but they are curved quite a bit. You will have to read the book outside of class if you want to pass, but if you have questions, he is willing to help. He's a little awkward, but super smart and nice.
Do not take him if you are trying to get credit. His lectures are 2 and a half hours long. You will go to sleep.
No extra credit. Challenging tests. 3 hour lecture and 3 hour lab.
Don't take his class. You are essentially learning on your own. I read the book, got a tutor and nothing worked. He does not give out your test back. He doesn't give partial credit and it's ALL FREE RESPONSE. He curves, but it doesn't help. His reviews are nothing like the test. Lecture is super confusing. I don't recommend this teacher.
Good prof! Organic chemistry is tough no matter who you take. He gives test reviews and problems to do in class and is always willing to help. Just study those and you'll do fine. I never once opened the book. His tests are curved, and he drops the lowest test grade. Definitely take him!
Jennings confused himself a lot (many test review answers were not listed; multiple choice tests listing 4 incorrect answers, etc.) This made it difficult to work on reviews outside of class bc occasionally correct answers were not listed. Tests are only 25-30 questions and some q's notably different than anything we went over. Alright professor..
Unless you are an absolute ace in chem do not expect an A even meeting with him & studying etc. He makes mistakes and back tracks during lecture and when giving explanations. Then when you get it wrong and tell him that this is how you explained it he just shrugs it off to its in the book and you should know it anyways... Summer course fyi
Maybe he just recently stopped doing it but, the tests ARE NOT CURVED. Avg test grades are 40-50. There are no multiple choice questions but, he sometimes gives partial credit here and there. He is confusing during lecture, so much so, he confuses his self. He is VERY intelligent but, he is not great at teaching. Plan on a lot of work!
Dr. Jennings is super nice and very willing to help, but he doesn't curve anything. class averages on tests usually average around 40-45%. O Chem is hard anyway so it's not entirely his fault. He's extremely smart and knows what he's doing, but he's not good at teaching it. He's more helpful in his office hours.
He grades unnecessarily hard, especially on labs. There are no curves on the test and he always includes "trick" questions. He confuses himself while he's teaching and is only helpful in office hours, which he usually late to. Do not take chem from him, most of the profs here are nicer. The only pro is that he throws out the lowest exam grade.
Literally the worst professor I've ever had in my entire college career. He is always unprepared because he isn't sure how the experiments are supposed to work. The schedule has changed 4 times. He doesn't teach or prepare students for all of the information that is on tests. The highest tests grades have been failing. First C I've ever gotten.
Do NOT recommend
Don't do it! Over half the class ended up dropping. He's ridiculously confusing, and sometimes skips the basic concepts and moves strait to the hard stuff. He answered all my questions without actually giving me an answer. I've taken chemistry classes before, yet he had me confused on the very basic stuff that I've learned easily before!
The class was confusing and the grading criteria were not clear at all.
This class is incredibly difficult to do well in. The quizzes are amazingly difficult to prepare for. Half of the class dropped and half of the remaining students failed. There arent any curves on the tests. And going to his office hours are amazingly unhelpful. I would never Recommend Dr. Jennings.
The only redeeming quality is that he had plenty of office hours. Its best to avoid this class if at all possible. His teaching style is confusing and too broad while expecting us to know too specific information.
his office hours are the only saving grace of this class. outside of actual class he is fairly helpful but you have to contact him during office hours. he grades all of the lab ridiculously hard and is unclear as to what he's actually looking for unless you go into his office hours and ask him specifically what you should write on the labs.
I am awesome at chemistry but I found his class very stressful and hard. He goes straight to the hard concepts without explaining the basics. If you don't plan on reading and understanding the concepts before class, it's very hard to pass. Gives a bit of partial credit on exams but tough grader of exams and labs. No extra credit or curve.
I just finished this course and I have to say, only take him if you aren't able to take anyone else. I managed to get a high B in this class but the amount of work that I put in should've got me an A. He does not explain concepts well so you will be teaching yourself a majority of the material. Just save yourself the trouble now and don't take him.
Definitely the worst professor I've had in college. His lectures are unclear, he contradicts the textbook, and he doesn't come to class prepared. He's a nice guy, but he is a poor instructor. Many of his test questions cover concepts that were never discussed/clarified in class. I would not recommend another student taking his course.
If you are not a chemistry genius do not take this professor. He is very smart in his field but doesn't translate/teach it well. Over half of the class dropped. This is a teach yourself class. I would not recommend.
You do not need to be a chemistry genius to survive his classes. Just come to class prepared, and try to engage him. He's not the greatest lecturer, but he makes up for it with well-structured classes and supplementary materials. He's also extremely accessible outside of class and very helpful to boot. Take advantage of his office hours!
Dr. Jennings is a great professor and was so nice. You can tell he cares about his students. He was clear in his lectures and VERY organized. For an ochem class I think he did a good job teaching and explaining everything. getting the book organic chemistry as a second language helps a lot. he is really helpful in his office hours so go to them
Dr. Jennings really cares about his students. He does move quite fast during his lectures but if you go to his office hours he will sit with you and work out any problems or questions you have. This class really requires work and studying, so its not an easy A but if you work for it you can achieve it. He's pretty funny too.
Ochem is going to be hard regardless of who you take. He teaches us as though we are PhD students that have taken years of chemistry. If you read and go to class things are manageable. Homework is pretty simple. He will not help you in lab much, so study how to do you lab and come with question in advance.
Lee Jennings is one of the worst professors I've had in college. He assumes the students have a lot of prior Chemistry knowledge. He calls out individual people in class and is very rude when you answer wrong and/or don't know. Class is not a friendly environment to ask stuff. He's way too smart to be teaching General Chemistry 1. Do not take him!
Dr. Jennings was one rough professor. He doesn't exactly know how to relay information from his power points along with give enough insight on what to know. His tests are the worst, expect to know everything for the test before receiving it, get the test, and know absolutely nothing. Doesn't give enough examples for mechanisms. Would NOT take again
Literally the worst prof I have ever had. He does not care about his students at all, and when I did go to office hours, he only made me more stressed. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR HE IS THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I am taking Ochem 2 during the summer with jennings... hardest thing I've ever done. obviously this is such a hard class. he is very open about asking questions. Be prepared to be called out during class to answer questions though!! VERY hard, labs are pretty easy, he's very approachable. take w caution
Organic chemistry is extremely hard but he is great at explaining the material. If you dont understand something he welcomes people to his office hours to get extra help. If you are taking this class to learn he is a perfect professor to take. He does not offer extra credits but he drops the lowest test grade. Just read ahead and dont skip.
Jennings is tough but passable. He calls out students to solve problems so pay attention! He is willing to help if you go to his office hours, he will work out problems with you. He teaches some "unnecessary" material for chem 1411 because he teaches higher chem so it gets integrated sometimes but it's useful if you'll be taking chem 2 or higher.
He goes through the lecture and typically doesnt review before exams. The labs are kind of fun and the lab reports arent too difficult. Exams are difficult compared to lectures. If you are already registered for his class, dont worry its totally doable, but it may take other resources to learn the material.
Dr. Jennings is an amazing chemistry professor, if you actually want to learn the subject, that is. For our lab reports we used Chem 21 which was very helpful because you get instant feedback. Lastly (and most importantly), he was very helpful in office hours and doesn't mind explaining subjects in more detail or even teaching you new things.
Professor Jennings was a good prof overall, especially for chemistry. I bought the textbook, but never used it (it may be helpful though). There's a fair bit of homework between the (almost) weekly pre & post labs and the unit homework. He calls on students very frequently during lecture, so pay attention.
Professor Jennings is a nice person, but he is not a good professor. He just reads off the slides, and then calls on students and expects you to know how to work the problem. I went to a private tutor 4 hours a week and I was still struggling. I am a science major and make A's/B's so this should not have been an issue.
This prof. is nice, but the reviews are pretty much the opposite of the exams. The homework is so extensive outside of class and you won't pass if you don't get good grades on the labs. He grades so extensively and hard it's almost impossible to pass. Take someone else if you can.
dr. jennings is a terrible professor. he expects you to teach yourself the material and quizzes you on it during class. he makes things much more difficult than they need to be and doesn't act like he cares about is students being successful.
Dr. Jennings is a nice guy, but as soon as class starts it's all learning. Unfortunately, the class was death by PowerPoint and he runs the class like a high school class by randomly calling on students. Honestly did learn a lot. Tests and quizzes are pretty hard, homework and labs save grades.
Never had a worse experience with a professor my whole life (already competed a bachelors, finishing a second). First day of class he said he doesn't give A's. If you ask a question he is condescending. I cant fit enough in this box to explain how bad my experience was, just don' do it. First class I have ever had to Q drop in my academic career.
I honestly loved Prof Jennings. He's very intimidating at first but he truly just wants his students to succeed. You WILL get called on during class which ensures you're paying attention but it does get annoying. He is very good at explaining topics, and if you stay on top of your work you'll make an A. I hope I get another prof like him soon.
Professor Jennings is very rude, he singles out students and makes them feel dumb. Be prepared for answering questions during lecture.
I am working on my second degree and Jennings is the worst professor I have had in my academic career. Day one of class he handed out paperwork on how to expect a C in the class. He calls on students for answers to pop quizzes. He will publicly ridicule students who answer wrong. Making statements like everyone else knew that, except you.
Doesn't respond to emails quickly enough and even when he does it doesn't answer the question, this is the first class I have ever dropped. If you take the class through the flex method half of the data will be missing so beware
Online class during covid was terrible. Dr. Jennings seems nice however he makes sly comments that can hurt feelings. He made me feel stupid for asking for extra help after the lecture. He will take time to try and help you understand the material though. Assigns things that are not for a grade. But if you miss the deadline that's still -pts.
For the love of God, do not take this prof. Hes the most condescending and unrealistic person I've met in academia. He attempted to make students feel like idiots in an intro chemistry class... please save your the wasted time. We started out with 12 and like 6 weeks in they are down to 4. Hes not it.
Took as a 4 week summer class. Hardest class ever but doable(was my only class and I ate, slept, and breathed chem). Watch youtube videos for HW(that's how I was even able to complete them). He does make you feel stupid but ignore it. He will go over your labs with you so take advantage of that. Whoever sticks around for the full class, good luck!
Chemistry has always been a touch subject for me, however this class made it even worse. He encourages questions yet when I would ask a genuine question, it would seem like he would laugh at my questions. Strongly suggest you take someone else if you struggle in this subject.
He does not prepare you at all for tests. Class average test scores were always terrible. Lectures are not very helpful and tests are extremely hard. He offers no extra credit and you have labs/ homework due every Saturday.
I really liked this class. It was only a Monday class, so all the lectures were online and we just did a practice worksheet (that was not graded, but super helpful) and an experiment each week and besides lectures, all we had to do at home was fill out a chemlab21 lab report and Aleks homework( which is progressive so you can always get a 100).
DO NOT recommend! doesn't answer emails, doesn't explain himself, gets mad when you're called on and don't know the answer, and literally reads off the power point. If you are a visual learner i don't recommend!
Dr. jennings is great and caring professor but he is also very smart and intimidating. He is always available to talk or zoom. labs will save your grade. when lecture goes back to in person I believe I would of gotten an A he great with explanations and is really a caring guy. just speak up and ask questions. He's a great teacher and a kind person.
TAKE BAD REVIEWS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT! Prof Jennings is super helpful and answers emails quickly. He will get to know you pretty well and will target your weak points when calling on people during the lecture. Don't be intimidated, he is only trying to ensure you know where to focus your studying! Honest effort goes a long way and he recognizes it!
Please consider another professor, but it's obviously your choice. He was very harsh, had high expectations, and expects you to know everything. He commented that I stupidly asked a question while trying to gain an understanding. He calls on your during lectures, multiple times. Very heavy course. Don't waste your time, more energy than its worth
I think people mistake his dry tone for rudeness when in reality, he is super nice. He laid out all his expectations clearly, is organized, punctual, and helpful outside of class. You WILL be expected to participate in class, but as someone with an attention problem, this was extremely helpful. Go to office hours, listen, and you'll be fine
He expects you to teach yourself the material on his PowerPoint before coming to class. He randomly calls on everybody and if you don't know the answer he will make you seem dumb. He moves through the material very fast and expects you to understand everything. He wants you to teach yourself before coming to class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
You have to memorize almost everything and hes had multiple mess ups on tests to where it wasn't the students fault if they got a question wrong because he didn't teach it yet or skipped over it. He takes no late work and has no extra credit. He makes you feel as if you are dumb when he randomly calls on students in class.
I had him for CHEM 1305 and he was fine. He will call on you in class and he makes you feel stupid if you don't know the answers. Read the textbook before a quiz because some of it isn't in his lecture. He's not a bad teacher but he will go fast. The quizzes, tests, and homework were pretty easy but the homework can sometime take a while.
just save yourself and take someone else
Berated students constantly about not knowing the course material when he should be teaching the material himself.
Professor Jennings is rude and has a huge ego. He makes you feel stupid for not already knowing expert level material in a beginner lab. I was already enrolled in a lecture course but he still chose to make his lab a lecture class. I cannot express how rude he is. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!
I took intro to chem-1305. He motivates his students to engage in lecture and to learn. It's a difficult class, but he wants you to succeed. If you put in the effort and go to his office hours, you can succeed. He is amazing at explaining things and has great patience. 100% recommend. fav professor.
Didn't like him at first because he seemed a little rude but really he just has high expectations for his students. Utilize reviewing everything with him he's more than happy to help because he's just glad you care enough to want to do better. Tests are hard, do the reviews. 0 for late work. Responds to emails. Overall nice guy just a little sassy
I was nervous because of ratings on here but y'all, he's really nice. People say he makes you feel dumb if you don't know an answer but he just corrects you if you're wrong and moves on. There were a few labs where I was moving super slow and he helped out and talked with me while I was last in the lab room. Challenging class, but go easy on him.
Save yourself the struggle, do not take this professor. He will learn your name and call you out in class, expects you to understand topics that he understands, and overall just someone you do not want to take. No extra credit, No partial credit, reviews he gives are NOTHING like the exam. Unless you are extremely gifted at chemistry, do not take.
He's not that bad. he WILL call on you so make sure to pay attention during class so you know what you're doing, or do the notes over the lecture before going to class. I did this and it really helped out. no quizzes, just LONG homework, labs, and exams. this class takes up a lot of your time but he's always willing to help if you have questions!!
Honestly, Jennings was one of the worst professors I've had. He never gave extra credit, none of the test reviews helped, and he made an aggressive learning environment. I felt like I couldn't ask a question and get a straight answer. Everything was very snarky.
This professor only reads off of slides and teaches the class as if everyone already knows half of the stuff covered. When people ask questions during lectures he's often condescending in his response. He grades very hard on labs and homework and then claims those are the extra credit to round up your grade.
He calls on people during lectures to answer questions so pay attention in class and always be prepared. Labs are not too bad but you can come to his office hours and ask for help. He wants to see you try so do not be afraid to ask questions. Exams can be hard so study a lot before and you will be just fine.
Never teaches just reads off the slides and expects you to know everything. When you ask him a question he gives a condescending answer. Too much attitude for being a powerpoint slide warrior
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! WARNING YOU ALL NOW. Tests are next to impossible, they do NOT mirror the practice exams/test review. Grades very harshly & must come to class having taught yourself the lecture alrdy then will randomly call on people in class & roast them if the answer is wrong. Reads off slides, gives no extra cred & refuses to curve
Professor Jennings is great! The class is a tough one for sure, but if you reach out to him and ask for help he is more than willing to give it. I would definitely recommend going to his office hours to go over past exams and lab work, not only will he help you, but it also makes sure you get a better understanding!
Basically what everyone else said: expects you to do his job for him ahead of class. Expects you to take notes before the lecture (on his power point slides that are not at all helpful) and magically be comfortable with the material. Not sure what he has against curving tests, but the class average on one test was so low he made us retake the exam.
This professor is great. Make sure to take notes on his lecture slides before class because he expects you to have a general idea of the concepts. Tests are not too bad as he sometimes curves them. He grades tests and assignments extremely quickly. The only thing I didn't like is the lab reports were graded tough.
Yes you do need to do notes before every class period which is a little annoying but it's not too bad. Test are all multiple choice but pretty challenging. He does not curve your test .He does move fast in the lecture but answers fast when emailing & don't be scared to take him it's not as bad as some of the people seem it to be.
If you want to pass Chem ll, don't take this professor. He is a very nice guy, but he is too smart and does not give out extra credit. He does not curve tests.
Rare occasion where the Professor is a genuinely nice guy, but he couldn't care less about students future, or whether they succeed in his class. Extremely hard exams, no curve, no extra credit offered. There was a few times he put questions he never taught us on exams, and realized and took them off. Don't take this class if you want an A/B.
This professor is definitely smart, but he doesn't seem to care much about whether his students succeed. He uses a flipped classroom style, so you're expected to teach yourself the material before class, and then go over problems during class. The average on the final was a 47%, which should tell you something. DO NOT take him!!
This man is the bane of my existence. Avoid him at all costs. His lectures covered barely any of the topics on the tests, and he spent 90% of his time during the lectures doing math when less than 30% of the tests dealt with any math. He skimmed over the important conceptual stuff. Half the class Q-dropped by the third test. I hate this man.
This had to have been the worst professor I have had. I had to drop, and take with a different prof where I ended up getting a high A. He will call on you randomly and will be upset if you can't answer. He does not teach, only relies on students answers to teach the rest of the class. Exams are beyond difficult. You wont pass. Take w/diff prof!!
Literally ruined my summer. I know chemistry is a tough class, but I got an A in chem 1, however he did absolutely nothing to help us out. For all 4 exams grades were from 15-75.. average didn't top a 56 and he offered no curve or extra credit. He'll call you out in class and wait for you to answer, expecting you to alr know material before class
Professor Jennings is a nice person and willing to go over test and things with you if you go to him. However his test are very hard. You are basically teaching yourself the chapter before going to class. In class he will call on you randomly. Also you need to know basically every little detail from the slides to be able to do well on the test.
I used to drive to school with my seatbelt undone hoping a car would run me off the road before I came to this class.
I cried every day because of this man. I got and A in gen chem 1 AND now even ochem 1 at tamu, but im still thinking about how this man ruined my transcript. Did not care at all about how his students did. I was crying tears of joy when I got a 76 on my exams, which was WELL above the average if that tells you anything... will call you out in class
If this is the only professor left and you need to take chem, wait for the next semester. The first day of class Lee Jennings let us know that 1/3 of the class will drop. That is ridiculous for a juco gen chem and does more to reflect his talent for teaching than the ethic of his students. For your sake, and your gpa, take literally anyone else.
Will cold call on you during lecture, expecting you to know how to do the problem. Tests are difficult with no curve, no extra credit. Dropped lowest test and 3 lab reports. Will go over tests with you during office hours. He is not an easy professor, but he is a solid teacher , and if you use all his resources, you will get a good grade.
Better do good because he's not rounding you up. He also cold calls. I hate him. My entire class hates him. Don't take him. I want to shoot myself. I'm gonna crash my car on the way home.
very amazing professor
His lectures can be fast paced but as long as you take notes outside of the class you should be fine. He would respond to your emails quickly and is always available for office hours (he is very patient during office hours). He does drop your lowest grades as well. Overall great professor.
Good proof nothing exceptional but also nothing bad. Chem is not an easy subject. He mostly taught of the slides, but the slides are pretty good and if you have any questions explains well. Exams are all multiple choice. Definitely go over the practice quizzes he gives in class as they are very similar. Drops lowest exam which is a savior.
Chemistry generally is a hard course, but Jennings is an excellent teacher. There's no mandatory attendance for the lecture, but there is mandatory attendance for the labs (or you get zero). He gives quizzes around once a week, which aren't weighted for any mark, and his homework takes a lot of time. Drops lowest exam, and lowest three lab grades.
Gives great lectures despite being optional, and if you do the work the way he intended, it is relatively easy to keep up with the faster pace of the class. Assignments weren't difficult, but don't wait until last minute to do them. They're all due at 11:00 PM instead of 11:59, with the last one due at 10:00. Exams are all MCQ and not too difficult
