Algebra has always been a nightmare for me, and I put off taking this course for as long as I could. But Prof. Land broke things down into steps I could follow. She is an excellent teacher and if you do your homework you will leave the class knowing the stuff. I am no longer math-phobic!

Nice teacher, always go to class, she takes attendance! Gives ok notes, in order to pass the class, u must do your homework, she pulls questions from the book for the quizzes and tests.

Ms. Land was a very helpful instructor, but at times she was somewhat sarcastic and made small mistakes on her examples seldomly. Pay attention and do the homework and you should do fine.

Navy friendly. Quizes directly out of homework. Tests not very hard...all or nothing on the bonus questions. Final for summer was directly out of the 4 tests we took...no suprises.

great teacher. she give practice tests before each test which are basically the exact same test with different numbers. THOSE PRACTICE TESTS ARE WHAT YOU NEED TO SURVIVE! And also i like how she teaches directly from the book section by section which is very helpful when you want to learn on your own. get the calc book study guide!

She is very helpful, goes at a decent pace, and is willing to help students.

She is very easy! Does not check homework although if you do it the tests and quizes are nothing. If you ask for help she is very willing to give it. Overall a very good teacher!

Highly Recommended. Very enthusiastic about teaching and makes Calculus as interesting as possible. Quizzes come straight from the homework. Tests are a little tricky, but she grades fairly and gives partial credit. If you put in the effort, she'll help you to succeed.

This is not for the self-motivated or those looking for day-care. Plan on working and pay attention. She is pretty cool about giving you insight on what is coming, but you have to pay attention and don't expect to be spoon fed. She can be a bit funny, but most of all she is serious about getting through to you. A good choice of professor.

You get out of this class what you put in. Do your homework and you'll do fine. Ms. Land is extremely helpful during her office hours, and is always in her office when she says she'll be. One of the best teachers I've had, if not the best. All you have to do is put in the effort.

She made me love math!! Clear in class, even better in office hours. She isnt easy but you will really learn from her. An awesome professor!

Not the easiest teacher but she still teaches well. You have to bust your ass for a good grade but it's worth it. I got an A in the class and didn't once open the textbook. Just go to class, pay attention, and do EVERYTHING she asks for and you will do well.

I absolutly loved this teacher. She made me want to switch my major to math. She teaches everything so well and if you don't understand something you just go to her and she'll stay with you until you understand it. She can seem sort of arrogant in class but she's really not like that. she's funny and passionate about math and wonderful!

she's such a great teacher. the class is not easy so expect to work. as long as you do your homework, you're so set for this class. she's a very helpful and sweet teacher. her notes are absolutely wonderful and impossible not to understand when she explains things. make sure you don't leave early, she hates that and always come to class!

Hard teacher. Good teacher if you like a challenge. I would only recommend her if your taking 15 or less. You WILL have to devote time to this class in order to pass. She is very very smart and really knows her math. Definitely take notes! Tests are extremely hard.

Awesome teacher, you can tell she really enjoys what she does which makes class that much better and enjoyable.The test were pretty difficult, but if you went to class and did the homework you would be okay. Take her! One of the best math teachers I have ever had and I am majoring in mathematics!

Great Professor if you take advantage of office hours and do the recommended homework. She utilizes a lot of online homework and labs. Gives very detailed class notes. Test are comprehensive and only on topics covered in class. Test are not exactly from homework, but cover the same concepts. Finally, she is very attractive :D.

I didn't like her at all. She's really rude and hot headed. I hate math and she moves way to fast. I would not take her and hated every minute of that class.

She is a good teacher. She does not take attendance but it is best if you attend. I took her for my higher level Math courses such as Calculus I and II. She is very helpful. If you actually go to her office hours, she breaks down the notes better than any teacher I have had. I missed some tests and she allowed me to retake them.

She teaches as if you understood everyhting first, very hard tests I studied all the material and still got a C, she is very moody and it reflects on how she will teach that day, also she uses a lot of trig identities along with the calc formulas which can be hard to recall during a big exam, do well on your quizzes, and labs if you want a C

Calc 3 just isn't easy at all

CLASS IS HARD. it helps if you do the homework, she is more than willing to help if you ask questions and attend class, also gives extra credit for attending class. she's not the nicest teacher though.

Brilliant mathematician! I felt every time I had a concern, question, or discussion point she would be willing to discuss it and walk me through it. I think she knows her stuff and I approached her with a respectful attitude. I think my attitude got me an A in all honesty.

Good professor. She can ramble a bit, but it's interesting. She knows her math. If you cross her or do something ignorant she will let you know how she feels about you, but I've only ever seen her do that when it's justified. Treat her respectfully and show up to class and she'll be more than willing to help you. Great respect for this woman.

She was a very good teacher and knew exaclty what she was talking about. She spoke clearly and wrote very clearly as well. She would often come no more than 5 mins late but it was no problem. I do recommend her as a math teacher, especially if it's the only math you need to take.

She can come off pretty intense but i have never taken this much from a math class. As long as you come to class and pay attention and open the book you will get an A.

TOUGH TESTS. if you cant take a test don't take ms. Land. she takes the hardest questions in the book and puts her versions on the test. but on the flip side, thoroughly helpful during office hours. much nicer during OH as well. she comes off as arrogant at first, but she's not really. she's a pretty decent teacher. taking for calc 2 next semester

She got me excited about doing math again. She is very clear about what will be on the test, so if you prepare the test isn't hard. She has a lot of passion for math, and explains things well.

Best math teacher I've ever had. Very clear, explains every step! Lists exactly what is on her tests question by question. She tells you exactly where to find examples in the book. Kind of condescending but only if you ask stupid questions. Best math teacher ever.

She's very monotone which makes it hard to stay awake. She teaches fast, but since algebra is a topic I'm familiar with, I didn't have a problem. He tests are simple and her quizzes come directly from the suggested problems in the book, you won't turn in any book work but it helps to do it when quiz time rolls around. She's an OK teacher.

Knows he stuff but teaches in a condescending manner. Does help with office hours and her tests are typically very textbook and from examples. If you study well and put forth the effort you will pass. Attendance was not mandatory but there was extra credit for not missing more than two classes. Also the subject matter is not something to wince at.

If you miss less than three days she will drop your lowest test and final will take its place.Gives study guides and always willing to help you.I would suggest doing hw in book.Its not graded but question basically come from the book. Mrs. Land...oh my. She is a hard teacher, but is always willing to help you (which actually makes her like you more). The one thing about her: the in-class notes are easy, the homework problems are alright, but then the test questions are pretty hard.

Ms. Land is not an easy professor. Don't expect to skate through her class. However, she is EXTREMELY helpful and respects those who come to her for help. She knows her trade and she knows it well. She's definitely professional and an expert. She is always willing to help and I took full advantage of her office hours and learned a great deal.

She is very clear about her expectations. If you miss too many classes, you don't get a test replacement. Do the homework, study, because the content is very challenging. Her exams are difficult, there were times I didn't feel I had enough time, but I think I'm learning that is the way ODU Math classes just are. She was not rude to us at all.

Great teacher, she's never been rude or condescending to us, and is very engaging in her lectures. Office hours are a bit awkward however, she only offered them to us one day a week, for an hour. Mymathlab is a must as is the the text book. Good teacher though and I will be taking her again for calc II.

She's a good teacher, spends all class going over any questions u had on the optional homework from the textbook. And when she works out a problem she never skips steps and explains her math 2 the full extent. She gives detailed lectures on how to approach upcoming problems. Her quizzes are easy but test are diffficult if u dont study a little.

She might seem dry and sarcastic, but she truly cares and is a great teacher. She is straightforward and honest when it comes to what is on the tests and quizzes. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework you should be fine.

She might seem bland and boring but she truly cares about her students, and is always willing to meet outside of class and provide feedback. Only negative thing I have to say is that 3 times she made grading mistakes on tests/quizzes that I would have missed if I hadn't met with a tutor outside of class.

She teaches a difficult subject with passion. Be ready to practice and do your homework, she had daily warm ups that counted for 20% of the class grade, that would be collected randomly and selected randomly from homework assignments. She offered extra credit problems on every test, and learning your UNIT CIRCLE IS KEY

Professor Land is very passionate about what she teaches and goes into extreme depth to make sure that her students understand the material that is being taught. The tests are hard intentionally to prep you for the final.

She is my favorite professor by far. She goes deep into the material to foster a better understanding of the math you are learning and how you will use it going forward. Once you have had her class, if you want her for the next math class and were unable to get her in registration she will make room for you. She is the best.

She's a great math teacher! She explains concepts very well and links them to other math concepts to give you a bigger picture. She can be sassy in class, but in office hours she's more than willing to help. She explains problems very well and always answers questions. Her class is test heavy with graded quizzes and labs. Professor Land is probably the best instructor I have ever had. She explains everything in detail, uses extremely precise wording, and repeats herself to reinforce her instruction. She tells you the kinds of questions that are on the test so as long as you study, you're good. She's very blunt and can come across as rude, but she's worth it.

I have always been horrible at math and have struggled throughout the years. Because of her I now understand math. This professor is tough but she knows what she's doing. She's very knowledgable and wants you to pass (as long as you do the work!) She has worked in the math department for more years than I have been alive and I highly recommend her.

Dr. Land is a great Math professor, but the course is quite difficult. You'll need to practice the material covered in class for at least a few hours a week outside of class, and meeting with her during office hours will help if you want a good grade in the class. Test scores are weighted very heavily in her course.

One of the best Math Teachers in ODU. Had her for PreCalc & Calc 1. Very nice, offers a lot of help and has a safety net in grading. She explains the concept very well in a clear and understandable way. Do the homework and study class notes and you will pass the tests easily. Highly recommended.

I believe Mrs. Land is the best math teacher I have ever had. Unlike most other math professors, she clearly explains the theory and the "how this works" of the math that she teaches. She just doesn't just teach how to get the answers. Her tests can be tough, but she is fair. I have much respect for her.

Overall, not a bad teacher. She talks alot, sometimes about stuff that doesn't matter or isn't on the test., which can cause her to run over her time limit, which is annoying. But she knows her stuff, and if you pay attention, you'll learn.

Professor Land is an excellent Math Professor that explains every nook and cranny of each problem. She is aware of all of her students. Make sure to set yourself apart by attending office hours, being a participant in class, and studying every day. "Math is a sport and to get better at it you must practice" (Professor Land).

Outstanding, easily one of the greatest math professors at ODU. I've had her for pre-calc 2 and calc 1, and I'd take her again if I could. She explains all materials in depth and makes sure that her students understand the concepts. If you attend every class and do the homework she assigns, then you should have no problem getting through the class.

Breaks down topics. Labs are hw. 4 test and about 7 quizzes. The quizzes are normally 2 question.

She is a smart professor, but a bit intimidating. I passed the class with an A, however, I was stressed for the whole semester.

I took her for Calc 2 in a 6 week summer session. It was completely exhausting but I got through it. Her bark is worse than her bite and I would take her again. If you try hard she will take care of your grade.

Mrs. Land knows what she's doing, but she be can all over the place during her lectures. If I hadn't taken calc in HS I would've been a little lost. Her quizzes & tests are clear (she gets her quizzes straight from the txtbook hw/online labs), so it's important to do the hw. Hated asking for help though b/c she had an attitude problem some days.

I'm not sure why she gets so many bad reviews, but I took her class online recently over the summer and she was great. The only reason I didn't do too well in the class was because I am terrible at self-pacing and tend to procrastinate. If you apply yourself in this class, you should do well - especially if you do your HW on time/early.

Ms. Lee is very knowledgeable and conveys new concepts in a way that is in depth and easy to follow. She will help you during office hours and during days before tests if you come to her. Her class was fast-paced, and practicing outside of the classroom is IMPERATIVE to your success in this course. If you study you'll be fine. Nice teacher.

Dr. Land is tough, especially for people who are terrible with math, like myself, if you put in the effort, you will pass this class. Some of her video lectures are outdate, which can be a challenge but she will work with you and go over things even simple stuff. Her reviews before the tests are amazing and a massive help prepare for the tests.

She was really nice with any questions and held help sessions for the class frequently. She gives out a ton of extra credit for home works and on tests. The home work was pretty heavy but that because it was a shortened summer class. Just follow the pacing guide and reach out if you need extra explanation and you'll be good with her course.
