Class is very hard. This was my first programming course and I learned a great deal. She was a great instructor and always willing to help.
she is a very good and kind teacher! BUT better attend her class all the time, otherwise...will miss A.
She may be hard now, but you'll wish you had her back again for 136 and on.
She was a great instructor, I wish I had her in my other CS courses. She was very detailed about teaching and grading.
i have one sentence to say for her , havent had a better lecterar in my whole unlv experience except her
Top notch CS instructor.
Great instructor, goes through the material slowly and thoroughly. Extremely meticulous when it comes to grading though.
Inhuman when comes it to grading! Good teacher but you must be a perfect life form to do good in her class! No room for creativity, you must follow EVERY LITTLE detail, her way or no way. No wonder there's only one A- in the class...
She spoon feeds you the material, so if you have any knowledge of computer science, prepare to throw out your creativity. She grades like compiler, not to say that her class is not easy... if you dont slip up in ANY WAY.
She is holds your hand throughout the entire material, and it's easy to understand. Just be prepared when she has you write out an entire program by hand. If you get any little thing wrong she'll dock points. Study hard for her tests!
Good teacher, very easy in the beginning but as the semester goes on it gets increasingly difficult. Grading is a bit rough.
Good teacher. Very tough when it comes to grading.
Class is ridiculously easy if you do the work, and she is a very clear (and very easy) teacher. I have no idea what others are talking about here. They were probably just poor students.
Misch is known as a "documentation nazi" - meaning your programs must be documented thoroughly. She also has pretty hard tests and assignments. But, she is the best teacher you could ask for. Very good. If you work hard, her class is no problem - but, pay attention to details. I took her twice.
Great teacher - though, very picky. Recommended.
Good overall teacher. Straight forward teaching style. Clear and easy to understand. Kind of picky on homework and tests.
Lee is a great teacher. She is willing to help you no matter how many times you visit her. Documentation is her big interest for her classes so set aside time on your assignments to get it done. A high recommendation in my book.
very good instructor, explains everything well and very nice, you will learn a lot in her class but you will end up with a****y grade. very tough on grading, very picky, unfair, big on documentation, watch out!
Very good teacher. Probably would have done a bit better if I had stayed awake in the class... Tests were over the material covered, as were the programs. As all the other said, be careful about your documentation... She hits hard with it.
good teacher
wasnt my favorite teacher
This class is very difficult. Make sure that you document just like everyone else has said. DONT USE variables that don't make sense. Use num1 to describe your variable instead of z or something like that. YOU'LL SEE what I'm saying once you take the class.
She's incredibly competent, clear, and helpful. Covers material thoroughly and always prompts for questions before moving on to other topics. Tests on things covered in class, no arbitrarily hard assignments, but if it is your first CS course, you will need to study hard.
I dropped out of the CS major because of her.

According to a comment under review, this is an extremely horrible teacher that is totally unhelpful when asked questions. Ive noticed she seems to play favorites and answers their questions better over others. If she does not like you, expect to fail because she is like that. She has to be fired and kicked out of teaching period!
She explained everything well on the board and helped after class. Good teacher.. though... extremely an4l on grading, omg. Better document every single line. My programs were 40% code, 60% /* */ //
Her teaching isnt very clear, she spent a whole class period showing us how NOT to program a certain thing...waste of time on notes..class would be easier if we had computers in front of us.
this class is hard for beginners but she makes it easy for students. she explains every topic well and in good pace. she is very helpful when u ask questions and when you email her about the homework she will respond with clear answers. the students complaining about her are probably the lazy ones who doesn't do their codes and miss classes.
An incredibly competent instructor whose lectures are lucidly thorough, and clear. Has a talent for explaining arcane topics, and always prompts for questions before moving on. Exacting, but fair. Beware, hers is not a class which allows for slacking.
She's a good teacher. If you think documenting is useless than dont be a programmer. If you're interested you shouldn't have problem in thes class.

I already had taken a similar class in highschool but didn't want to bother getting my AP results back from the college board. She's straight forward, logical, and pushes UNIX like environments. There's nothing to complain about, BUT, this is from someone who already knows the subject.
If she doesn't like you then good luck. She is not helpful at all if you're stuck in a program. Avoid her class at all cost!!!
Mediocre class. The documentation thing is annoying, but not difficult. This class teaches the ability to drudge through something tedious more than programming.
had my final today, omg very extremely hard. Shes a great prof. as far as explaining the material and the class actually goes at a slower pace than what Id like, however her assigs are very unfair shes always looking for something to dock points off of you and when she finds it you lose even your pants off!Taking CS136 in the summer to avoid her
I took CS 135 over the summer with no previous knowledge of programming whatsover. It was a little fast for me (only a 5 week course), but Misch does a good job of explaining everything. Just make sure you don't fall behind, copy all the stuff she puts on the board, and you should be find. She's a very good teacher, but a really tough grader.
Misch does a great job teaching C++. she covers all the details and strives to teach good programming style. her class is hard, but you will become a better programmer because of it!
Hard homeworks. Great notes. Always available.
Class is very easy if you show up to everyclass and take note. She puts out all the information that will be on the test. The Homework assignments tend to be a little on the hard side. the reason most people fail is because they think they already know how to program in C++ and do it there way. Misch is a very tough grader.
She says attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives requirements for programs in class. Those requirements are not listed on the paper she gives out for each assignment. It is frustrating to say the least. It is nearly impossible to get 100% on an assignment, or even a 90%. The only teacher for CS 135 though. good luck.
She is a good teacher in terms of explaining the subject but she is a hard grader. The beginning of the class would be fairly easy if u have any experience in C++ but it tends to get very hard in the end. Her way of grading is tough and i don't think that she does the curve. Some of her programming assignments are very demanding for students who ar
Misch gave me an F on my first test....and I actually love comp sci and went to class everyday and took good notes! Her class is difficult even for those who actually give a damn about the class. She's a really good teacher but she needs to ease up on grading.
She's agood teacher but hardcore grader. She can be kinda mean if your not specific in your program questions.
Very tough course if you have no programing experience. She is a tough grader and the work load demand is high. You have to write about a program a week along with a lab with its own assignments every week. This class should be treated as a 5 credit course. Teacher is helpful and always available.
She is hard on new programmers. My previous programming knowledge is what enabled me to keep up. She is very specific in what she wants as far as programming commentary goes and on whether or not a program compiles. She doesn't care as much about the other things. An ok teacher overall.
The professor expects very little of you which is only good if you need a GPA boost.
Super duper easy.
Like everyone said. She's a good teacher, but a tough grader. She knocks points off for simplest of errors. I got an 89.8 and she still gave me a B. I'm so mad.
If you plan on attending every class, there is no need to buy the book. She is extremely specific about what she wants you to know and how she wants you to do the assignments. VERY tough grader. Outside help is a necessity, unless you want to spend a lot of time in her office. She can be too quick in her lecturing, but will help when asked.
Damn this teacher is tough but she is good. Nice lady don't do programs till last minute.
God please ease up on grading. Not everyone is a computer, not every computer is everyone. Knocking off lot of points from simple mistakes unacceptable. Your teaching style is good but first users for programming are not perfect, people needs a relief. Need extra points if possible.
She's definitely not hot. The class was hard. It started off easy, but got hard overnight. She's a good teach and explains things clearly, but the assignments and tests are very hard. I dropped the class and had a B- when I did. I realized it wasn't for me.
She is extremely thorough. Covers every topic with numerous examples. Doesn't use the book AT ALL. She tells you everything you need to know for the class. With only a couple exceptions, the programming assignments are quite simple. Don't be lazy on commenting...she tells you exactly what she wants for complete credit.
notes, handouts, lab manual all given online. lectures are straightforward, and grades are too- NO CURVE. for those w programming background, class is slow but easy. otherwise, you need to spend alot of time compiling. the final has lots of on the spot programming. she is easy to talk to, but is also VERY very very SPECIFIC on program guidelines
Fantastic professor, very challenging assignments sometimes and certainly very strict on grading...but all these people complaining about documentation don't realize that it is the easiest part of the program...and it counts for 30% of the grade..thats free points. I wish she taught more classes because I would take every one in a second.
Having absolutely NO prior cs experience, this was the hardest class of my life. But besides that, Misch is an excellent professor. Really knowledgeable and always willing to help, even when you randomly walk into her office. Though I did feel really dumb asking her questions at times, she always provided helpful answers and thorough explanations.
I took this class in the summer, and even though the workload was slightly watered-down, it was still a TON of work, and the tests were challenging. No curve. She is a very strict grader. On the bright side, she does know how to teach, is very organized, and is helpful. I had made all A's until now (made C+). Just glad it's over. Nice lady.
Clear to understand but everything said in class is online, attendance is not mandatory. Insensitive to students, enjoys failing them. Puts students on probation for false accusations of plagiarism. If you never took CS before, avoid her at all cost. UNLV needs a better CS teacher or they will continue to lose students. Most heartless teacher ever.
So a kid by the name of Philip thinks he is a computer enineering major, until he encountered this class last I checked he was majoring in History. If that is an indication of how hard it is.
took her class last semester. As i always said the topics are easy she just likes to make her assignments hard. This is a hard class and once u pass her class it gets a lot easier trust me. she is like the door guardian and weeds out the bad people. Best advice is to read the book which is extremely good and pay EXTREME close attention to she wants
Do NOT underestimate her tests. She is very clear in her lecture but the tests are not easy at all. Study everything she says will be on the test many many times! BTW a huge portion of her tests are programming so make sure u now that going in.. Do not way to the last day to do her programs either, it will not work!
Ahh -_- This teacher was alright. If you know what you're doing in C++, then you're good to go. The tests were pretty hard. Those tests were worth to study for. The book was USELESS. And yeah, average teacher in my opinion.
She is an okay teacher, not super helpful though. Also if you miss one small detail that is involved in the rest of your program its all wrong. I got a c on a program because of one calulation being wrong. Everything else was correct except that it used the orginal number.
Wanted to major in CS. That's not the case anymore.
Expert at taking basic concepts, turning them into busywork. Programs very lengthy later on and are more a test of endurance than skill. Worse, most of the grade is based on regurgitating rote knowledge for tests. Could get As on the programs and labs but still do poorly because of her tests. Apathetic towards students. Decent lecturer.
Makes this class 100x harder than needed. EE students take 117 instead! Programs take away time needed for other classes. Tests involve writing programs that otherwise take a week to do. Avoid at all cost!
She knows her stuff but her grading can be a bit ridiculous, especially on tests. She also makes the tests worth way more points than they should for a normal programming class. I did fairly well (got a B) considering I didn't study that much for her course, as I already had prior programming experience. But if you haven't, it will be really tough.
The class is organized VERY well, and Lee gives good examples that help with assignments and tests. Pretty tough on test grading, not much for partial credit. I came out with an A having no prior CS experience AT ALL but please note that I'm good at math and very procedural. Also the lab assistant Lakshmi was a great help! Total sweetheart!
good points:She is an excellent teacher, she will explain everything to the letter. She knows her stuff and very clear.Bad points: Very tough on grading, she will take off points if you forget to put your section number. Gives tough and lengthy programs to write special the final project!
She was a teacher that made me not want to be a computer sci major anymore. Also, saw someone else get accused of cheating just for talking with their neighbor about how they couldn't work their program.
Very clear with explaining the lectures. Very hard grader, but she tells you everything you need to get full credit. Do not skim over her specifications in programs and you will be fine. I had no experience in programming, slept, and skipped some classes; still got a B. Feel free to ask her questions and it will be made clear.
Very clear with her lectures. Also very helpful when you go to her with questions. She's tough on grading, but she spells EVERYTHING out that she wants. If you lose points on an assignment, it's not because she wasn't clear with her expectations. She knows her stuff, and is truly interested in you being able to learn the material.
Lee Misch is a very good instructor. That said if you ask a question on material previusly covered, she may get snarkety.
She knows what she is doing. She is VERY clear and easy to understand new material. However, she is a hard grader and makes hard tests. Also, she likes to make unnecessary comments about students with low grades.
never found any Computer professor who is helpful and clear as her. I recommend everyone taking her class, even if you dont have to!
Her tests are challenging, and it is hard to get a perfect score. But that's why they call it a test. paying for the class doesn't entitle you to an A, you still have to earn your grade. Her program assignments are easy, just don't wait 'till 3 hours before they're due to start one. Don't copy from others and you wont be accused of cheating.
Her classes can be boring at times (even if you are interested in the world of programming), but the powerpoints and lectures are very informative. Program assignments and tests can be challenging, but nothing impossible.
One of the hardest teachers in grading... If your program has one error that stops it from running you lose 2/3rds of the points for that assignment. Is great at explaining but the homework takes a long segment of time as well as she is very strict on grading of anything.
She was a good teacher but not that helpful. She could care about the students more than just the work they do.
She has an uncanny ability to show enthusiasm for her teaching that you don't see from many teachers. She is very pedantic about assignments however and if you do not follow the instructions to the letter she will deduct points and blow up your GPA.
Excellent instructor. All course information is available online. Very clear explanations of topics and concepts. Friendly and approachable.
She does a good job teaching, if you do your work you should know your stuff by the end of the course. She is pretty quick to reply to emails. Her website makes it easy to find any info you missed. Only complaint is that she is that the term brutal does not come close to her grading policy. The smallest error can lead to losing a letter grade.
This class isn't that bad, but she grades really hard. Don't underestimate her tests though! Those guys will ultimately make your grade, unlike the homework which you pour hours into and it doesn't do much for your grade. But hey, they help you learn programming!
She's a great teacher can get mean. She knows her stuff and explains it really well. Her assignments are only 20% and each test is 25%. Do your best on the test because if you fail 1 then don't expect to pass.
This class is actually a computational math course disguised as a c++ programming course. The lectures are based on the language, yet the tests and assignments are based on computational math. The teacher is clear in her explanations, but like many other courses at this school, what you need to know to pass will be revealed on the test. Fail
Class is simple enough, if you put effort into making your programs. Textbook isn't needed because she provides very good notes that you can look over. A bit of a harsh grader when it comes to the homework she'll always find a way to tak 10 or 20 points off (out of 150). I think she's great, I would take for 202 if she taught it.
I dont know how to explain it but she teaches very good in class but her tests, man her tests are hard. She grades very hard too. I kind of thought to get my minor as cs but she made me change my mind. Im sorry to say but i hate programming because of her.
If you want a good foundation of C++ , then this is the teacher to take. I'm not saying she's an easy grader or an easy class, but she will go over every single detail you need to know to make your homeworks work. Don't be afraid to ask questions. No books are needed, notes are organized, be prepared to code and don't start your homeworks late.
Returning to school after some time, I did not know what to expect from this class. Yeah, it is a bit tough, (in a good way), and I recommend it to anybody who wants to learn c++. I learned a lot and can now program with confidence! The prof is not an easy grader, but is a great teacher.
If you have never used c++ before this class will be hard. The homework will take most of your time. You will learn alot from this class because of the amount of work. The test arent that hard just know your stuff. Be prepared to put in some serious time for this class.
Ms. Misch is a very nice person but a hard grader. Her tests are very hard. Try to make all the homework by yourself and struggle cause on the tests there will be some hard stuff like the homework. Assignments take most of your time but makes you love the subject even more. Try your best and study for the tests in a practical way not memorizing.
Great professor! Her lectures are akin to those I viewed on MIT's website in both claity and thoroughness. Yes, she's a tough grader but it is for a purpose. Since the course is Computer Science, attention to detail is absolutely critical. The assignments prepare one for the tests. Attend every lecture and take solid notes and you'll do fine.
Professor Lee lectures very clearly and provides numerous examples for students to follow. However, she is a strict grader and is always sure to include a few tricky exam questions - so pay attention! She works very hard and will assist you with any problem if you have put forth some effort yourself. I didn't buy a textbook - just use her lectures
Every comment prior to mine is accurate. Good teacher, CRAZY strict grader, & an overall hard class. I hate the people who said the class is easy cuz they must have had some previous programming experience. if you had no experience whatsoever then good luck. this was my 1st time w/ cs and this was an EXTREMELY difficult class for me#SwitchingMajors
Professor Lee is such a wonderful and smart and patient and helpful teacher. She obviously shows passion on teaching and computer science. She controls the tempo and timing very well in each class. Her assignments are very well designed for students to digest the material. Although she is strict on grading, we really learn so much! love her!
She is a great teacher to start learning programming. She explains concepts well and her homework is not too easy but still challenging. Her tests are tricky and even if you have programming experience before taking her class, you NEED to study and know the fundamentals.
She's the only choice for CS 135 but she's a good one! This class basically teaches C++ and nothing else. Lessons (although a little repetitive) are clear and easy to understand. I had no prior experience but I'm doing very well. Don't put hw off! She grades strict and throw in very tricky test questions so be careful. Otherwise it's a good class!
Teacher cares nothing about student or their schedule. So if you work and go to school, don't expect any leeway, she will not care. Gave me a D for adding one extra thing to my program. Also she uses a program to grade hw, does not bother to put it in the Syllabus. I would recommend skipping this teacher if possible. GREAT COURSE / HORRIBLE TEACHER
I really wanted to major in computer science and I thought that I was learning a lot but I am actually failing the class. I come for help, but she gives attitude. And she really doesn't care about the student. She recommended to drop the class after the first test, which means that she doesn't want to help. Prolly changing my major.
If you don't know how to code, probably a decent class. If you do, I highly recommend only showing up for the first couple of weeks and on test days. I stopped going to this class after accidentally shouting out "Challenge Accepted" to something she said was "harder". If she somehow teaches above 135, avoid like the plague.
This class becomes very difficult. The tests are very challenging, and so are the later programs. In my opinion, Professor Misch was unapproachable. I went to her office hours and the way she responded made me feel like i was intruding. Email responses have lengthy wait times and if you haven't coded, programs can consume your time. Good luck.
SO... I don't usually do this.. but stay away. I have to say I REALLY REALLY liked her in the beginning. I have taken a CS class before and received an A, and this class I have a D :-( It makes me so sad because I am on the GI bill and have to pay it back. .and i have been working my reared off to pass. It is true she told me to drop. doesn't care
First, I'm not a CS major, I just have to take 2,3 CS classes because it is required. So I had no clue what was C++ or linux, etc. But her lecture is very helpful and clear. People who fail this course, but they are CS major, make me laugh at them. Exam should be okay if you did your homework by yourself, and studied lecture note. just be dedicated
Misch is one of those who will determine whether or not you want to become a computer science major. Do well on her exams and you will do well in the class. Do all the assignments and labs and you'll be fine on the exams. Overall she is an excellent professor. FYI if you ask her question, her response can be kind of condescending.
Definitely don't recommend. She spends way too much time going over the easiest parts, made sure the 2nd test was right after the drop date, and then rushes more through the last sections. Unapproachable about problems; good luck getting points back on a test. Got her to admit she messed up my test on some parts but still only gave partial points
Misch is an excellent professor. If you fail it's because you did n't go to lecture or did not do the work. She shows you on each assignment exactly what she expects your output to look like, she gives you plenty of time to do the programs and allows days for questions. Misch greatly increased my knowledge and interest in CS.
It's a tough class. I went from knowing nothing to being able to write programs. Explains things extremely clearly. Some HW and the tests are hard but you should do okay if you go to lectures. Best CS professor I've had.
theres a lot of people who fail and repeat this class. She knows her stuff, but she's a hard grader especially on exams. The homework it definitely time consuming as well. She's tough, and not an easy person to approach either. Expect to work alone, and if you get caught working with others, you will get turned in.
On the bright side, this teacher is good at lecturing. Unfortunately, I would not take her again. She is very unapproachable to students, I was falsely accused of cheating, she does not work with you to try to improve your grade, and she takes off too many points for little things. This class did not help me become a better programmer.
Attitude problem and doesn't prepare you quite enough for programs. Make sure to be very careful, she loves to take off more points than necessary.
The lecture notes are excellent and easy to understand. However, the lecture was only useful on review days. The testing and grading is fair. The assignments are graded late and feedback is lacking. She is mostly professional one-on-one, but sometimes she displays a nonsensical attitude. She lacks passion and does the minimum. Take someone else.
She is too much to be professor in unlv
The class started out as easy, she thoroughly explained the lecture slides, then after the first project, her teaching ability dwindled down to just about nothing. She accused a couple of my fellow students of cheating (twice!), even though we had completely different programs. This class is cheap.
Very condescending. Rude, snarky and doesn't seem to remember this is the introbeginner class. Assigns homework and grades it without telling you how to fix your errors, then on the test you still don't know. The test comes back, with minus points, but you can't even tell why they were deducted. FridayLab is uselessmoneymaker for school
Reads off of her lecture notes that are already listed online. Provides in class examples on chalkboard, which is hard to see. Not very organized in her lectures, jumps from one topic to the other. Expect pop quizzes so go to every lecture. Only way to learn and understand is to write your own programs, don't expect for lecture to be clear.
Tests are everything. Material is easy, especially if you have programming background (I had php). Tests are hand written programs, and she is very nit picky grader. You will probably not get an A (only 3 people out of 60 still have an A), but this class is an easy B if you go to class and pay attention. Tues. lab instructor was helpful and patient
Overall it wasn't too bad, but don't count on an A unless you already know C++. Turned out there was only 1 A in my entire class, though, a lot of B's. Would not recommend but not the end of the world if you cant find another prof to take this class with.
Her expectations are very clear, and her lecturesnotes cover all of the material you need to know. She is a tough grader, and gives out very few As. If you can do all the homework you will pass this class. If you want to excel do all the optional homework and make sure you really understand how each program works. Go to office hours if needed.
The way she grade homework and tests is extremely harsh, so be very careful when you do the work, make sure everything is 100% correct and followed every one of her directions. I highly recommended you to go to the class because she will say something you might miss on the homework and tests. Also, she does not give any extra credits.
One of the hardest graders I have ever taken, gives a plethora of pop quizzes and the class is SO boring I wouldnt even go for the first 4 weeks if she didnt force us with pop quizzes. I digress though, the grading is ridiculous.. you have to format your programs exactly how she wants, and you cant have the math off by even .001 rude DONT TAKE HER
Professor Misch makes me consider switching my major to Computer Science. Her lectures are clear and very informational. I love that she doesn't fly through the material nor does she go too slowly. Tough grader but she'll always give extra help when asked. I would definitely take her class again!
Do not take Misch for CS 135. She makes you hand write code on the tests, which are worth 75% of your grade. If you know anything about coding, you know that the whole point is to write it, test it, fix it, and test it again. Getting only once chance to write perfect code is ridiculous, especially for beginners.
Lee Misch takes simple concepts that should not be difficult to understand and over complicates them. She uses a white board and verbal explanations which does not translate well for most students. She grades tests very strictly and has a short temper. Had it not been for previous C++ experience, I wouldn't have continued this major because of her.
She grades tests very strictly and take all the point out with no explain. Also, you have to write a program in the test that is not easy because the time is not enough. She takes simple concepts that should not be difficult to understand and over complicates them. Her assignment is very long.I wouldn't have continued this major because of her.
She's passable. I didn't suffer from having her as my professor, but could've gotten the exact same experience from anyone who can read off of a slide. She did put all the lectures and notes together herself, and I assume she is helpful in office hours, as she seems very knowledgeable. Just doesn't go above and beyond what's necessary.
This course can be tough, but it is fair. She is very meticulous in grading programs and tests and will let you know if you make any mistakes. If you can learn from your mistakes and match her level of detail when thinking about your programs, you will be fine. It's not the most exciting class, but is a great foundation for the classes to come.
Bad teacher. Doesn't grade well and is too strict. Never take her class if you want to continue in this major, this doesn't prepare you in any way
Took this class expecting to pass. Teacher is terrible with grades. Submits grades days after and is really strict. Take this class with another instructor. Tests are weighted too high, she wants you to hand write the code out.
Had a better teacher in Riverside. This teacher is technical on the must bizarre things that don't even relate to computer science. Don't take this class from her and expect to learn about C++.
Class is really hard, If you can take this with another instructor, do it. The tests are basically your grade and you will be hand writing code on the test, so there is no room for messing up.
Wouldn't take a class again from this instructor. Instructions are clear, but if small mistakes are made, there is no leeway. Very drawn out lectures and tests are hard as well.
Over complicates simple concepts and expects beginners to craft perfect programs by code. Worked in the industry and only taking the class as a requirement, but no one ever gets a first pass and programming is expected to test fix test again. Class is way to difficult and archaic in terms of how it is designed and executed for beginners.
Misch is a wonderful lecturer, but if you can't make it to class, all of the class notes are online. She assigns two types of programs, each worth different point values. Expect to have 15-20 exercises and 15 assignments. Tests are tricky, but they're out of 120 points. She will help if you have questions so don't be afraid to ask.
She's very thorough when lecturing so pay attention and do the homework and you'll learn. Class starts off easy but gets progressively harder. Very strict grading. A small mistake will take a chuck off your total which, although unfair, makes sense in terms of how specific programming is. She does get upset if you ask a question she thinks is dumb
Taken this class twice. Lee has super-specific grading criteria in assignments, so be sure to follow the instructions CAREFULLY. She runs some of 'em through a program out of convenience, so if you ever feel unfairly graded(like I have), ask her to double check it manually. Lectures are easy, tests are difficult due to time constraint. You'll live.
Not a good professor at all. Extremely tough grader for a beginner CS class. Makes you write programs on tests by hand and grades them harshly. She is also very unhelpful. Every time I emailed her I never received a response. Do not take her.
This was my second time taking this course, the lecturers are clear and easy. The exams are intense, have to write perfect code by hand if you make a small mistake expect to get 1/2 of your points for small mistakes. She grades unfairly and takes more points then she should. Recommend to take someone else unless you can write perfect codes.
Misch's lectures and explanations are always perfect and crystal clear. Programming is very logic-based, and Misch does a phenomenal job breaking down the thought-process behind each function and line of code. Her grading is very strict and she expects you to follow her style techniques, but her advice is always based on real-world conventions.
Hw is hard/graded harshly. Be ready to WRITE perfect code on exams. Misch explains clearly, but if you ask for coding hw help she will send you to lab. Unlike my advisors said, YOU CAN GO TO ANY LAB!!!!!!! I stuck with Joels lab, weird hipster dude. He tells cheesy cs jokes but his coding challenges are fun and he explains coding logic very clear.
I took CS135 over summer for the first time and found it as fair class. The tests covered everything you will learn in the class. They were not as bad as people make them out to be. The homework assignments were not bad as well. Overall a strict grader, but I liked her teaching very much and offered good help when I asked for it.
Very tough grader but within reason and is available to provide great feedback. Notes available online are amazing and are good review material for any class. Lectures can get boring unless someone asks questions. Be ready for difficult tests where you have to write out code but assignments will help prepare you. Don't take tests lightly
Misch is very thorough and you will learn if you take her, but she is an EXTREMELY tough grader. I wish I would've taken someone else. Beware.
She is teaching the material flawless. really good professor when it comes to teach the topics, however, she is a really tough grader and very strict, tests are too hard and she will take off points about every little column. only 3 A's in the class 2 A- and 75% of the class are in C and below. Be prepared to write 2 full programs each exam.
This teachers terrible. Don't do it her exact way and she marks you down even with the correct result.
I don't think she understands the concepts herself. Terrible grader and marks you down for simple mistakes that have no effect on the overall result of the program.
Very rough on beginning programmers. Does not feel like an introductory class. Exercises aren't terrible, Assignments can get difficult, but the exams are soul crushing. She grades HARSH. No mistakes, no wiggle-room. You also have to write PERFECTLY coded programs on the exams. Don't ask a dumb question in her class either, you'll be sorry.
As has been stated many times on here before, she is a very strict grader and expects near perfection on tests and programs. However, I believe that her guidelines are made very clear beforehand and anyone complaining likely doesn't want to study or thinks they already know what there is to know about programming. Tough teacher, but within reason.
Lee Misch made computer science very easy to understand. Her lectures were very thorough in order to ease in beginner programmers. She is a tough grader, but if you truly prepare for her exams you will get a high grade. Just work hard, read the textbook, do all the homework, study for the tests, and you will learn alot and get a high grade.
Professor Misch is very smart and if you work very hard in her class, you will learn a lot from her. She teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand. However, she has a bad temper with students at times, and her tests are extremely difficult, especially for new to programmers. Do not take if you have no prior experience. Seriously.
Great professor! She is a tough grader, so be aware! However, she is very clear if you attend all lectures and will repeat herself, so just listen. Her notes were posted online, so you can always use them to reference. I would take her again but sadly she only teaches CS135!
Misch does teach, but she's harsh on grading. I've also taken Derek Williams in CS 135 too, and he is like the exact opposite of her in teaching and personality. Misch's temper's bad, but Williams is pretty chill. Misch teaches better than Derek *for beginners* though. She's a double-edged sword. She does not act caring though. She don' give af.
She knows her stuff. But she doesn't like to explain thing. She talks down to you. And doesn't like to give help. If it wasn't for my Lab teacher/student I would be lost. The lab professor is a 3rd or 4th year student teaching the class.
Lee Misch is the worst professor I've ever met. She does not care about her students learning the material and hates to repeat herself. Most of the students in her classes end up not getting the C grade they need to move on. I recommend that you do not take her, and find someone who actually cares about you learning the material.
She helps you become a clean programmer. She comes off as very mean sometimes but that's fine if you are into that like I am. Before taking 135 I had never ever programmed before but she was a very good introduction into it and her notes are amazing!! I find myself reviewing them all the time as I do codes on Leetcode. Defs recommend!
She is a tough grader. The midterm and final are worth 70% of your grade. You technically could do a few assignments and ace the exams and pass the class. The exams consisit of writing code on paper. I cant work that fast and it hurts my score. I can do all the assignments. Dont agree with the exam point and percentage structure.
Great teacher and goes at a good pace. If you have previous programming experience, it will give you a nice boost. But, it's at a basic level, so if you do all the programs, you should do well. You may run into debug problems but you can always visit her office. Wish she would've taught 136/202 and 218. The classes just get harder.
Powerful woman who knows her stuff. This seemed to make many of her students (men) try to one up her and make weird power moves. They would flex the most basic knowledge and try to belittle Misch. She wasn't having any of it and I respect her for it. Lots of homework but they are all fair and graded fairly. Challenging class but would take again
Challenging class, but Misch has a no-nonsense approach that commands respect. The workload is hefty, but it's all fair and graded accordingly. Unstuck AI and other study tools really helped with class prep. Would take again.
