This teacher is great. If you have to take history I sujust you take Lee Pappas. She is a little goofy, but in a gooy. She is funny and loves what she does. Her husband also teaches it must be a way of life for them. She is easy. Know the Maps for test, the rest of the test is just off the lectures and the study guide that she gives. I made an A
I love this teacher. You'll learn a lot and she makes it easy to understand. Shes totally goofy and fun. She'll really grab your attention. I try to never miss this class and that says a lot. Test are a little book and a little lecture. Map tests are easy if you study the maps.
This is the most awesome prof I ever had. She's funny, animated and she knows her history. I loved her class even though it meant being on campus at 2pm on a Friday it was worth it. If you have to take HIS 163 TAKE PAPPAS!!! Tests are not overly easy but not hard if you pay attention. They're on blackboard too. STUDY THE MAPS!!!
She's absolutely great and not only does she know her history, but she loooves it! She makes the class fun and I must say that history is my least favorite subject bc I thought it was boring...until Pappas! And she loves learning new things, so questions are ALWAYS answered and discussed! Definitely take Pappas! Planning on taking her AGAIN next yr
This Teacher was bad ass! I loved her so much! She is very enthusiastic, and I am taking her next semester too! She is awesome take her if you have the chance!!!
KNOW THE TERM LIST, KNOW THE MAPS, GO TO ALL CLASSES, GET AN A. Its that simple.
Great teacher! No homework assignments, just lectures and Four tests. The final is not accumulative! Very easy as long as you know your history or pay attention!
What is there not to like about professor Pappas?! She is so full of energy and life. She will get you excited even if you are dead asleep. You may not like history but you will definitley learn some when you take it with her. She offers TONS of extra credit. 100 question tests means you can miss a few and still make a good grade. She is awesome!
I think he is one of the most interesting profs on campus. However, if he is getting into a topic, you might not want to sit in the first row. There is a spray factor, but that's also how you know what's going to be on the test. The bigger the spray, the more likely it will be on the tests.
Prof. Pappas is amazing. I don't care for history, but she was great! She gives very interesting lectures including what she calls 'crack pot history.' She tells you some lesser known facts (which sometimes end up as bonus on the test). Sometimes her lectures are had to follow. She gives you a review for the test and it helps a lot. I made an A!
very hard test. best know your material. she is very knowlegable about her susbject. she is very interesting but she keeps you the whole time. dont take the night class that is 3 hours. its very hard to pay attention. but she loves teaching and she will teach you alot
Prof. Pappas is the greatest teacher at SHSU.. She loves teaching and makes sure that you remember the material by lecturing with funny stories at times..she gives extra credit on tests (pay attention to places and "stuff" when she goes a bit off topic, this ends up on the extra credit part of test..DO NOT NEED BOOK..RECOMMENDED TO ALL :D
I dont even know what this last person is talking about because Dr. Pappas is one of the nicest, most helpful professors I've ever had. She held extra study sessions outside of class, always answered any question presented, and I even heard her quietly offer to re-give a test for a student who had done poorly. HIGHLY reccommended.
HARD. IDk who all these people were that took her before, but she was mean to our class. She made 2 people cry! Almost none of the info she went over for the final was actually on the test. We held our own study sessions in hopes of just PASSING the class. I would not recommend her at all.
Very passionate of her work, which is great. Few people out there that take obvious pride in the stuff they teach. Very friendly and considerate, yet outspoken and brunt. Dangerous combo that she pulls off nicely.
Her lecture is pretty fun, but not necessarily what is on the test. She is sometimes inaccurate if not on her topic of interest. Just STUDY the material listed on the STUDY GUIDES..know the basics and get your extra credit on exams from coming to lecture.
I hated history until Prof. Pappas. She's funny and full of energy (very animated). She really loves what she does and I recommend taking her if you hate history because you won't after this class. I couldn't believe I got an A! It was because I remembered alot of her lectures.
Easy A!!! Memorize key terms and you are set. Sweet lady. Willing to help if you have any questions. Negative, Lee and her husband tend to team-up. Can be too much at times. Overall, easy class!
Two Thumbs Up!
Seldom on topic. You can score an easy A if you study the terms on the study guide, but the lectures are seldom organized or tested and may contain factual innaccuracies. Her view of history can be simplistic and she can be insulting if you present a different view. If you want to learn something - go elsewhere - class is mostly a floor show.
Her class is ok. Not easy, but not extremely hard either. Many things in lectures are not even on the test, so I don't know why I bother going to class most of the time. Lectures are unorganized and she gets off topic a lot. However, she's funny. Bottom line: Not an easy A if you're looking for a blowoff class.
Highly recommend Papas, she always makes her lectures interesting, she's full of energy, and as long as you study, its totally easy. Just ignore some of her over the top/enthusiastic opinions.
do not take her for 163!test are hard, do not follow what she talks about in class.and her lectures are very unorganized and hard to follow. so far the class averages for test is a 50!! and only 2 a's!!
Lectures aren't very organized. So goes of into tangents quite often. If you take this class with her I would suggest reading the book religiously and look over the terms. Go to class to learn extra credit.
She's a good teacher but she thinks Post traumatic stress disorder is a made up liberal lie, she must know this through all of her battlefield experience.
I highly recommend Pappas. She makes all of her lectures interesting and energetic. Her tests aren't hard, either, as long as you go to class and wiki the terms she puts up. She's one of my favorite professors.
She is a great teacher and is very funny. She give a lot of bonus points on the tests for things that she went over during class. Im taking her for everyone of my HIS courses.
Pappas is one of those teachers who you never forget. She makes class easy, and if you fail it's basically you're own fault for not studying. Gives bonus questions that are easy if you attend lecture. Shows a great interest in students and their learning. Take Pappas if you get the chance!
Amazing teacher! Only 4 tests and she drops the lowest; the catch is her tests are hard! Don't buy the book, use wikipedia.
She is absolutely fantastic! She doesn't believe in self-censorship, so she's a bit extreme. She's very passionate and delivers the facts as they are. She makes the class extremely interesting. There are 4 exams and she drops the lowest. They aren't too hard if you study, and she gives a lot of extra credit that helps a ton if you attend class.
Amazing professor. Once you get past how out going and uncensored she is, her classes are always fun to go to and fun to listen in on. She really does make learning fun. Plus there are only 4 tests in the class the lowest one is dropped and there is plenty of extra credit to earn on tests if you attend class. Highly recommended.
Different stlye of teaching than I have normally had and I felt lost. It's not very structured in my opinion but she is passionate about what she does. Test are hard you have to use wikipedia to study.
Horrible teacher, thinks wikipedia is a valid source at the academic level, teaches more about her libertarian political views (with anachronistic comparisons) than actual facts. Keep your critical mind awake. Tests ridiculously easy, free A.
Down to earth. She requires you to look up some material on your own. Students CHOOSE to use wikipedia. If research is correct, then she will grade it accordingly. Very willing to work with a student. Provides a study guide for the course. Sometimes her husband will drop in and they tag-team the class. Great team.
2nd class I've had her, grea professor. Wikipedia is NOT a study guide, simply a helpful attribute to the readings she assigns. ALL of the test questions can be answered from assigned readings. Gives out extra credit answers during lectures. Very outgoing. Would def take her again. Very straightforward, too.
She is an amazing teacher and really cares about each of her students. Do not by the book cause its all from lecture. She gives reviews for tests, drops the lowest grade, and gives 20 points of extra credit on each test. She talks about stuff people actually care about. One of my best teachers ever! I would take her for all of my classes if I could
Love this lady! She so amazing I'm thinking of taking her again instead of saving $ by taking the class at Lonestar. She gives the study guides for all tests upfront, but I hate her study guides. Don't buy the book, just take notes and read online. She drops the lowest test and gives extra credit. She keeps it real, not a professor for everybody
Take her for PreDawn,NOT 1400-1900.I've taken her for both classes, and while the same problems persist through both classes it is projected strongly in 1400-1900. Class notes are useless as she simply refuses to teach the material, instead doing her own thing(which is interesting enough). Expect to learn all course material yourself. Easy B though.
She's alright at first, but her lectures are only over bonus questions that she'll have on the test. She's very loud and often obnoxious, especially when she "enlightens" the class with her heavily conservative political views. She rarely lectures over test material. However, the material is simple enough to create a study guide off of Wikipedia.
Amazing Professor! Gives out study guide with 50 terms. You have to learn this material on your own. Approx. 25 bonus quetions on exams that come from lecture material. 4 exams-she drops lowest. Easy A if you don't procrastinate! She just says what's on her mind. Very interesting political theory. If you are left wing this isn't the class for you.
I took this class because everyone said she was easy. This teacher is not a teacher for everyone's style of learning. She talks about whatever she feels like talking about for the day, hardly ever going on the study guide. The extra credit is over her lecture, if you can record it, do so, because she's hard to pay attention to for over an hour.
She is incredibly smart about every subject in the world. She will teach you real world stuff that no other professor will. I could listen to her all day long. She is very charismatic and can teach you some great life lessons. However, her tests are about 10% of what her lectures were and 90% stuff you've never heard of. Test are very tricky.
This is the worst history class and professor I've ever taken. She regularly spends the whole class yelling about her political opinions. Most of her lectures are irrelevant to class. She rarely stays on topic and is rude to our class on a regular basis. Isn't clear on which book to buy or study, "Just go pick up a book in the library and read it"
She's funny but really knows what she is talking about. You WILL laugh in her class. Didn't give homework and had MC tests. Definitely should take if the class isn't full.
Awesome Prof.! Cares about her students, and keeps the classroom active and up to date on exams and whats going on in her class!
I will definitely take Prof. Pappas for the next world history class. She is hilarious and lectures are amazing. Gives a study guide with terms expected to know. 4 tests during the semester, and she drops the lowest one. Her tests have at least 15 extra credit questions. If you go to class and pay attention then you will get an A.
Class consisted of 4 exams, she dropped the lowest or gave you the option to opt out of the final. The exams were mc and consisted of extra credit questions. She does not use power-points so listen and take notes. I would recommend Professor Pappas to anyone.
She's hilarious and the best history teacher I have ever had. She makes her lectures fun and interesting and really gets into. She can lose focus but gives GREAT extra credit if you pay close attention. That being said GO TO CLASS. Only four tests and she drops the lowest grade so if you have the grade you want by the third test you're done.
I really enjoyed Professor Pappas. She makes history interesting. The tests are slightly hard, yet she gives a good amount of extra credit on the test to help balance your grade and she will curve it if she feels it is beneficial for whole class.
Just like any class, you need to show up to learn. Her lectures are funny and very informative. She doesn't follow her syllabus but if you pay attention she gives you all the information you need. Follow her study guides for class and listen to her little side stories for extra credit. Best history professor I have ever had, by far. LOVE HER!
Things on tests are not always what we' learned in class or what was assigned in reading. Some things you're just expected to know somehow.
She does not teach, and goes on tangents. You practically have to read the book on your own and teach yourself. She spends the entire lecture teaching r a c i st ideas and preaching her political agenda. Worst 50 minutes of my life, teach yourself or try to find another teacher. Especially if you don't want to debate and be offended, all the time.
4 tests, drops lowest grade. No essays, no quizzes. No book needed, she provides it for you online. Her lectures don't follow the tests well, but she gives you 50 terms for each test. As long as you learn them, you'll get an A in the tests. She gives a lot of extra credit points on tests that she talks about in her lectures. So go to class!
She is very opinionated, but it makes the class interesting. Gives 4 tests and she'll drop the lowest. Each test has a review with terms on it, search for a quizlet to study. Gives extra credit questions on each test taken from her lectures, so go to class. If you don't know something she's referencing she'll explain right then. Made the course fun
She doesn't actually teach about history. She talks about her opinions and what she thinks should be and where she has been. You have to really teach yourself in this class.
The tests were difficult. At the end of each test there was a 20 point extra credit section that was based off the lectures. It is extremely important to do the terms on the study guide. It is also your job to find the things on the study guide because only a few are discussed in class.
HARDEST lecture ever!FOUR tests drop the lowest. If you want A in her class, you have to get 90 on all the tests. All her lectures are the extra credits on the exams. Her extra credits 20 questions at the end of the 50 question tests, get 1 point for each correct answers. review 50 vocabs. use wiki and google search it. tests are unpredictable.
Took her 1301 and 1302. 4 tests, drops lowest grade. No midterm. No quizzes. No homework. No textbook. Go to class, that's where she gets her extra credit questions from. Tests do not closely follow the review she gives. If the class does poor, she curves the test. Do the 6 weeks study skills program Sam offers, she gives extra credit for that.
Amazing teacher, one of my only professors that doesn't use powerpoint. She can tell an amazing story when it comes to history and has a very interpretive method of teaching.
By far one of the most basic and enlightening history courses and the lectures are interesting to listen to. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor for anyone who naturally struggles with history- she gives you all of the info for the exams beforehand and makes it almost impossible to fail, all you have to do is go over the review and extra credit
A very simplistic class for anyone who struggles with history. Drops lowest exam grade (out of 4 exams), extra credit taken from (enjoyable) lectures on ALL exams , provides reviews with elaborate explanations, no research or external reading required, no homework, no quizzes, no essays- simply study the information she provides.
Teaches only her opinion, gets off topic easily, exams have 20 fill in the blank extra credit questions that come directly from lectures, 50 question exams that come seemingly out of nowhere, term list instead of an actual test review
4 tests and drops the lowest. All the questions on the tests are from the study guide she has already answered for you. She gives over 20 extra credit questions on the tests based off lectures (go to class!). She really wants all of her students to do well. She is also very enthusiastic.
Ms. Pappas is an entertaining professor. Her lectures are opinion based, which makes them more interesting to listen to, especially when she is passionate about a subject. The only downside is your grade is dependent on four exams and that is it. If you struggle with history or find it boring, the lectures will help but you will have to study hard.
She gives a lot of extra credit; more than 20 points per test but she doesn't teach whats on the test she gives you a study guide with 50 terms and paragraphs if you study that you should be fine. The extra credit comes from her lectures it's usually the most unnecessary topics in her lectures so take notes on everything.
jumps around room crazy. test are based off packets of terms. lectures are only covered extra credit. grades are 4 tests lowest dropped. horrible. skipped class a ton to study packets to get an A.
She loves what she does and you can tell it. The only bad thing is she talks about so much in one sitting and will go the whole class. She's funny and nice, study the review she gives you and you'll be fine.
She is hilarious. She gives amazing lectures that are extremely passionate and you can tell she loves history. She has four tests and she drops the lowest test grade. She gives you a term list that you have to study for the test. Her lectures gives you the up to 20 extra credit points for the test. I would definitely take her again.
My favorite professor! I really enjoyed her classes.
Very easy class if you are going to study. She post the test online that helps big time. Plenty of extra credit. Very awesome professor! 3 test including the final exam. She drops the worst test grades and counts your best. Great class to take. LOTS of extra credit that can help you a Letter grade. She is very funny and enthusiastic.
I have taken this prof 3 times now and they have all been the structured the same- easy if you study the reviews she provides you on the first class day. All lectures are extra credit info for exams. Lectures are at least interesting to listen to. There are some quizlets available for her exams.
4 tests, only 3 count. No other work than the tests. She was pretty chill and I honestly think the bad reviews here are made from lazy people. Go to class, study, and you'll do fine.
Pappas is a great professor, the only downfall is for History the only grades she gives/puts on blackboard are 4 exam grades. Her exams are not easy, make sure to read the lecture outlines and definitions that she puts on blackboard because that helps a lot.
Lecture heavy with all extra credit questions on the exams coming from them. She tested us 4 times with the option to exempt the last. If you study diligently with the exam lists or answer the extra credit questions you can pass the exams easily. Other than the tests, there were no assignments/homework.
Shes not someone you want to take if youre used to PowerPoints or notes written on the board. She likes to skip around in her lectures and theyre mostly extra credit based. She gives you a packed with terms you need to know but theyre paragraphs long and most of the time they contain a lot of extra unnecessary information.
Her lectures are NEVER boring. Everything on the test is taught in class. All questions on the test come from the study terms lists she puts on blackboard. All extra credit question answers can only be answered if you go to class. Only grades are the test. Attendance is not required, however is class attendance is low she will take attendance.
You take 4 test but she only takes the highest three grades. Each test has extra credit. But no one ever makes as on exams. No PowerPoints ever, she doesnt use blackboard so your grades arent known unless you keep track of your scantrons.
Professor Pappas is my favorite professor so far at Sam! She doesn't use PowerPoint which I didn't like at first, but once you get a couple days into the course it's not bad. She is VERY outspoken about her beliefs and almost theatrical with her lectures. Lectures are mostly for extra credit questions on exams. 4 exams, 3 count, no homework ever.
Shes super funny and a great teacher. She doesnt use powerpoints, but instead draws all over the white board as she talks about history. You dont have to attend class, but sometimes she gives extra credit to those that show up. Also, her tests are super easy, but come more from the review than lecture, SO STUDY THE REVIEW!
Doesnt use PowerPoint at all and just writes random names or draws pictures on the board. Goes off on random topics that she swears has something to do with the lecture even though it never does. Then you go look at the review and dont recall her mentioning any of this in the lecture but the test is mostly over what on the review.
Take this class, it is so easy to pass. You don't have to show up to class because she just rants about random things. The study guides she posts is the only thing you need to study. She's HILARIOUS btw, even went viral on twitter. She has a lot of knowledge.
Lots and lots of reading. Online class was poorly organized. Course content uploaded late on multiple occasions making it difficult to get into any sort of cadence with the amount of reading required for the course. On the bright side, she is very fair. Do the work, get a good grade.
Her lectures are almost useless, she goes off on rants and most of the time they werent about US history. The only reason I went to class is cus she occasionally gave out extra credit for those who went. Her tests are super hard and very specific. Test averages for 3 of the tests were: 62, 67, and 74 (gave us answers to 5 questions on this test)
This course was almost impossible. And everyone in the class would agree. 5 test, all 80 PLUS questions. Dont bother looking in the internet for help. Study guides were 75 PAGES LONG (No Im not over exaggerating). Questions would be paragraphs and was only given an hour +15 to take. 30 Difficult discussion boards. Chem is easier. Do NOT TAKE HIM!
Professor Pappas is terrible at responding to emails. Her notes are all her information and I found that some of it was incorrect. Her test are usually timed with 50 questions and only allows 1 hour and 30 min. Her lectures are her screaming her own political opinions and they usually have nothing to do with the topic we are supposed to be learning
I heard the class was an easy A and I needed the credit so I took the class. Wish I didnt. I wanted more out of this class since its mandatory. She ranted about her political opinion a ton because it was election year. She never answered anyones emails. The tests were okay but make sure you study a ton.
This class is all test and no homework which I love. So I only have to focus on reading and understanding the material. The first couple test the answers stood out and I had no problem. But after the first 2 test they did get harder. Plus some questions were worded weird. Lectures go off topic and talk more about current issues. Which I enjoyed.
I did not enjoy taking Dr. Pappas' class, as most of the lecture time was spent going on political rants that had absolutely nothing to do with the content. Most of the class ended up being self-taught.
Professor Pappas never answered any of my emails, in the first day of class, she went on a political rant about the 2020 election, and made some xenophobic comments in addition to that rant. Hardly ever contacts you throughout the semester. Would not recommend.
The only thing she takes for grades are exams, and gave us extra credit at the end of the semester for attendance. This is a class that you have to teach yourself, she's an okay professor but goes on a lot of rants.
Went completely off topic every lecture , only told her version of history . Even told of this was her view. Her lecture were nothing but her political view rants. Claimed that our generation is so bad and went on several lecture why we are ruining this country. We had 3 test 1 dropped and it followed a 50page review.
Professor Pappas is a great professor. There are 4 test total, the lowest of which is dropped and that is all the work that is given. Easy class.
Prof Pappas is super rude and I couldn't stand her class. Lectures are super boring and she just rants the whole time. All tests were online and not proctored. If they're In person good luck. You'll be stuck studying 200 pages
very easy class for students who dont like history. no homework. only 4 exams. study guides giving at beginning of semester. study each exam study guide and pass the class. drops lowest exam grade. make an a on 3 exams get an a in the class.
She values her political views more than the lecture She goes I know Im off on the topic and proceed to use close to 20mins out of the 50 minutes of class we have just to discuss her political views and also she gave out like 60 random terms to study for test. Mind you the terms are not in a coordination or arrangement just random
She would have a 50 minute lecture and nothing that she would talk about it would be on the test, only 4 test grades and nothing else. Test are online but if it she changes it will be 60 terms, study guide is included for every test but each term has like 2 paragraphs to go along with it and the study guide is like 30 pages long.
A very rude professor would rant about a "plandemic", and how no one should wear a mask. Students cheated and got busted so the rest of the semester was in-person exams. She didn't punish the students that were involved but punished the whole class section. Her lectures did not match the coursework at all.
No powerpoints, only used a chalkboard. Shed rather rant about how blackboard is a "Chinese website sold to the lowest bidder" than teach the class. Doesnt use BB so cant keep track of your grade, only grades we get are 4 test and the study guide material never matches.
I've seen many of the recent reviews, and I had her this year as well. the course is very intense and information-heavy, and she states you have to study outside of lectures as well. Attendance isn't mandatory but it does help as she works with you if she notices you're putting in the effort. if you study the guides and follow them, you'll pass.
Only four tests, and one gets dropped. She will bump up your grade if you're close to the following letter and log in frequently via Blackboard. Tests are not complex, but you must read a lot of material. Class is easy, and you have so much time to take all the tests.
only 4 tests in the class and she drops one of them. test are not hard if you use the resources she gives you. 10/10 recommend.
Online classes can be hard to follow, and Prof. Papppas didn't make it any easier. I was very overwhelmed with the layout of her Blackboard page, and the material did not feel organized. Sometimes the material posted in one unit isn't even on that unit test, but on another. No assignments other than exams.
Only 4 grades total. The 4 exams are all open-everything and you are given two attempts per exam and she drops the lowest exam grade. Really simple and would definitely take again 10/10.
Easy course with lee pappas. He gives also extra credit for a exam. Everything is online and there is no any online class.
