He was an amazing professor. He was clear, and provided wonderful information to us in an easy to understand manner. I'm a senior and he was one of the top two professors I've had the joy of learning from. Very helpful in and out of class.
Lee was a great professor. He is very easy to understand and very helpful when you go talk to him. Go to class, pay attention, and study a little, his class will be a breeze!
Lee is THE BEST teacher at NMU. He has 100+ students in one class and still gives his time to each one of them.
Lee is a good person, but his lectures are intensive.. miss one and you're done. I ended up having to drop his class. His tests are really hard and as far as I noticed, there was no opportunity for extra credit.
Lee is very helpful and answers all your questions whether its in or outside class. There are 7 different tests and each one is cumulative. I think this was meant to help us remember what we learned, but I couldn't keep up. Since there was a test every other week I felt like I couldn't learn the new stuff because I was reviewing the old.
To start with I am not good with chem, but Lee is very friendly and is willing to help at any time he is possibly available. I have never had any issue getting a hold of him for help whether I had to send an e-mail or go to his office hours. Great professor I recommend him to anyone needing chemistry. (CH111-CH112)
Great instructor. Easy going and explains everything crystal clear.
Great professor. Explains everything really well and is great at helping out with homework and reports.
Lee is great!! I have tried 2 other times to sit through a chem class and could not do it. He makes it interesting doesn't teach from a text book but rather uses lit. books to teach. His class is full every class.
Lee is THE BEST. He understands people struggle with chemistry and science in general & he is always willing to help! I really enjoyed his class! Easily one of THE BEST, if not the best professors at NMU.
Lee is AWESOME! He is the best prof I have had at NMU! He is passionate about the subject matter, but most importantly his students! He's extremely understanding and willing to work with his students! So sad I won't be able to take another class with Lee!
If you miss one class, you're done for. Exams are NOT multiple choice, and there are essay questions. Would NOT recommend.
By far my favorite professor! He is funny, kind, understanding, and most importantly passionate about chemistry! You are lucky if you get to take one of his classes!
Lee is a great professor with a sense of humor. He can clearly explain his course material and has a wonderful passion for his subject that you don't often find any more. The lab portion was fun and easy to understand. Tests, however, require study time and it's helpful to read the books he assigns. I love that he didn't use a traditional text.
Does not use a textbook. Explains so you are able to understand, even if you have no prior chem experience. If you pay attention and do all the homework and practice quizzes you will do great
Roecker is a really nice guy, and is super funny. He makes his class pretty intresting, the books you use for 105 are not real textbooks. So they turn out to be a good read. He really tries to help his students
One of my favorite professors at NMU! He actually made chemistry easy to understand and interesting. You could come into his class with no prior chemistry and as long as you paid attention be ok. He goes at a nice pace and is just an overall great professor and nice guy. Exam are based off of study guides so that was a plus too!
Dr. Roecker made chemistry so easy to understand. If you go to class, participate, and do the homework, you will do fine. Super easy to approach. Truly loves chemistry and actually makes it fun to learn.
Going to class will save your life. So go. If you have questions, he is very helpful and will take time to help you succeed. He also does take attendance.
The best professor I have ever had. His lectures are clear and he is a nice, approachable man who is more than willing to help any student. Highly recommend doing the study guides before every exam. Amazing human being and intelligent man.
I was super nervous to take Chemistry but with Lee it was wonderful! Although it was a lot of work, you get a lot out of it. Lee has great office hours and is always available for questions. He also always hands back exams and quizes in a short amount of time. I would definitely recommend him as a professor!
He was always helpful and made sure you would understand things. He had a lot of office hours that he was available in. He makes the class hard to fail. Just study and you'll do fine!
Lee was such a great professor! I hadn't done too well in my previous semester so I had to retake it and he helped me understand the material and enjoy it. Roecker was so helpful and he truly helped me throughout this semester. Lee is probably the best professor I've had.
Lee is great, assists with anything you have questions on, stays on topic during lectures but manages to make them interesting, and gives lots of extra credit opportunities. He is the king of partial credit, which can save your life on exams. He makes it possible to pass easily as long as you put in the time. I'd recommend Roecker for sure!
Lee is the best professor I've had in 3 years at nmu. He really cares about how well you do in his class. I am really bad at chemistry and he made it super easy. All the the exams are cumulative, but I think he drops the lowest one. Also, they are all short answer. But they all prepare you for the final. I've even gone to him with Qs for CH112/.
Lee has been my favorite professor so far! He definitely cares about all his students and tries to get to know them. I sat in the back because chemistry is one of the harder subjects for me, but I still did really well because of his teaching ability!
LEE IS AWESOME!!!! I would recommend him to everyone and anyone!! He's so easy to get a-hold of and responds so quickly. His lectures are funny and actually educational! Lee Rocks!!!!
Roecker is such a great professor. I love how he takes the time to learn every one of his students names. He will gladly make time to help you with things you are not understanding. He also will give lots of partial credit on exams instead of all or nothing. He's also pretty funny.
I would take Lee again in a heartbeat. His teaching and character is amazing. You can tell that he loves what he's teaching about. He has hundreds of students and yet remembers every one of us. Whenever I see him outside of class he says hi to me using my name. 100% respect Lee.
I've failed a Chem class before but Lee will work with you to better understand everything. He provides non-mandatory supplemental homework and plenty of pre-tests to prepare you for the exams. Always available during his office hours, makes jokes in class and provides alternate examples such as a "balloon dance" for better understanding.
Lee is hands down my favorite prof I have had. He truly cares about the grades his students receive. His lectures are clear cut and he makes material easy for students to understand. As long as you attend class and pay attention, Lee will make it easy for you to get a good grade in the class. I wish he would be teaching my Chem class now!
Lee is awesome probably my favorite teacher so far at northern. He loves what he is teaching and remembers everyone by name. Notes are key and so is attendance. show up and pay attention and you will pass.
-do the pretests -study throughout (dont cram) -use equation sheets -ask for help -GET HIM AS LAB INSTRUCTOR TOO (i blew up a burner once & he was chill) Super nice guy & very entertaining. Loved him. Class was easy for me but I am really good at taking tests. Average test grades were 65 but I could get 95-100% if I didn't cram-study.
This was my favorite class of all time; I do like Chemistry, but Lee was such a great teacher. If you can take his class, you definitely should. He's always very willing to help and really cares about all his students. I always got good grades on his tests, but I know some other people around me didn't. I just don't think they studied.
Wow. I actually started to like Chemistry because of Lee. He cares for his students and will always make time to help you. He makes it clear what is on his tests (written tests) but as long as you do his study guides you'll pass! easily my favorite instructor in my school career so far. Thank you Lee!
Lee explains everything so well! I struggled with chemistry in high school, but he makes everything so easy to understand! Lectures are never boring because he adds in humor to keep the class entertaining. Excellent professor!
Lee is a really great professor. I personally don't really enjoy chemistry but he made it as enjoyable for me as he could. He usually teaches big lectures but actually wants to know everyone's name. If you study his practice exams and pay attention in class you'll do well.
SWEETEST PROF EVER. He's funny, entertaining, and just super nice. Chem is a bit hard, but with effort you can easily get an A in his class. He's always there to help. Practice exams are super helpful, too.
I love Lee so much! I had him in CH105 and CH109 and he made chemistry fun for all!!!
Lee is a legend here at NMU and pretty much every student wants him for Chem 111. His teaching style is refined and well balanced between interaction and lecture. Makes un-fun fun and has great availability out of class. Long Live Lee
Lee is absolutely amazing. I took Getman's lecture for 111 and was instantly stunned and confused by all the math, but Lee took it step by step and explained things so clearly. He's always chipper and tries to make chemistry fun, and was probably the best choice for a discussion leader. I love him and I always make sure to greet him when I see him!
Lee is one of the best professors I've had. He presents the material in a very straightforward, easily understood manner. He makes sure that you have all the information you need to ace the exam, and his practice tests are almost exactly what the actual exam is. If you have any questions or concerns, he is willing to help you understand.
Lee is one of the best professors at Northern! He is a very talented teacher. Lectures are engaging and interesting. Study guides are helpful and detailed. Tests are fair. You will succeed if you participate in discussion and understand the study guides. He gives lots of helpful visuals. He also has a great sense of humor.
Lee truly wants his students to pass. He takes time at the beginning of the semester to really get to know each person in the room. READ THE PRACTICE EXAMS and you will pass every exam!
Lee is, by far, the best prof I've ever had. Chemistry was hard in high school and I held a strong grudge against it. Lee makes the lectures interesting and fun to listen to! His concepts are so easy to grasp and the way he writes the notes on the board is so aesthetically pleasing. He definitely cares about how his students do! Highly recommend.
Lee is one of the best professors that I have had. He finds a way to make every lecture fun and makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on. If you do the practice exams he gives you will be fine for the real exams.
Lee was very helpful when I had questions. He was also very understanding when it came to missing class or homework assignments.
Lee is the best professor I've ever had. I had never taken chemistry in high school and was pretty much clueless, and he made it seem like a piece of cake. He explains everything very well and makes lectures fun. He responds relatively quickly to emails and is pretty lenient on you missing class, if you have a valid reason.
He is a great professor, lectures make the information easy to understand. There was a book but I never used it. The supplemental homework assignments and practice exams were enough practice to understand the problems.
Lee is the most caring prof I have had at NMU. He wants his students to understand the material and pass. Do all the homework, take the practice exams, and practice your essays and you will pass all the exams with flying colors. He is always available to help outside of class. He makes his lectures fun and engaging.
Roecker has been my favorite professor I have ever had. Such a kind and smart man with the a real connection to most of his students. He is very patient and will take the time to teach you anything you do not understand. Highly recommend.
The class material is tough but Lee does the best he can to try and make sure all of his students have a complete understanding of the material and what to expect on the exams
One of the best professors I've ever had! Great guy and even better teacher!
This man made me love chemistry again! Very cut and clear lectures with awesome notes on the board. The lecture notes are posted online as well. The lab was easy too and no exams in there, just show up and do your work and you'll be good!
He made the content so easy to understand, and fun to learn. He also took time to get to know the students in his lecture, which I thought was really cool.
Super nice guy. He gives you his phone number so that you are able to ask him questions whenever, which is very helpful. Since it is a big class his lectures can be confusing so ask questions, but he is always willing to help if you ask questions. He genuinely wants you to do well.
Not knowing someone on a personal level, and knowing that they are a genuinely fantastic human being is something I do not come across often. Lee not only teaches immaculately, he also displays great character. I will miss his class a lot as I truly looked forward to it. Breath of fresh air to have as a professor. can't express enough gratitude.
Lee is wonderful. In a lecture hall of 150 students, he learned my name on the first day of class. He personally talks to his students before class starts and is entertaining during lectures. He is always available during office hours or after class. His class is pretty easy to get through if you pay attention and do your work.
I absolutely loved Lee. He was always accessible, his lectures were always digestible and clear, and he was just an all around nice person. He gave his phone number to students to text for help- and always answered. I wish I could take him for CH112. Wonderful professor, and I learned a lot
Amazing prof! Took his class my first semester of university and his lectures made me fall in love with chemistry so much that I switched my major. If you do the homework (usually three attempts so its usually easy), look at old exams and work on some practice problems that he gives you, you will probably get around a 90% on all his exams.
Lectures a lot but explains the topics well. Gives extra credit on the tests.
He's pretty funny.
Lee is a great guy and a great professor. He is very good at explaining the material, gives homework, practice exams, and practice problems so that you know exactly what will be on the exams. As long as you pay attention and do the work, you will ace the class with flying colors. And the best part is, he genuinely cares about his students.
Lee is by far the most amazing professor I have ever had. He makes it nearly impossible to fail his class, as long as you arent a complete idiot. He gives incredible study guides and makes learning chemistry so much fun. I highly recommend Lee.
Really enjoyed his passion for chemistry
Lee describes things very well he tries and make the material easy to learn for everyone. I feel like I am actually learning!
I really like him as a person,he is funny and welcoming. The class started out great and I was able to keep up. He skips around in the text book a lot and I feel like Im drowning in material. I cant keep up with all the different topics being taught. Its a very fast paced class, safe to say I personally would never be able to major in chemistry.
I didn't have Roeker for lecture in chem, but I had him for discussion and I wish that I had chosen him as my lecture prof. He's very good at finding multiple ways to explain concepts, and is energetic while doing so. The discussion section of chem is was has carried me thru 112 only because Roeker is the best.
Lee does such a great job keeping your attention with his lectures. He is always in a good mood and makes leaning your subject fun.
Lee is an amazing person, as well as professor. He wishes to be very involved in class & loves when you ask questions- no Q is a dumb Q to him! His exams cover lecture material, & the supplemental problems & practice exams he provides are incredibly useful. Goes out of his way to learn your name and face, & wants his students to learn & get As.
honestly one of my least favorite teachers I've ever had, before my exam i "had a 92%" then he proceeds to send an email to us over 24 hours after the final saying "the grade book was not correct", and I had a 75 in the class. I had expectations of what I needed to get on the exam when I had my "92". i am very dissapointed
Professor Roecker was an amazing professor! He makes concepts easy to understand. He sets you up for success if you attend all lectures and do the homework. He provides practice exams which are basically exactly what the exam looks like.
Dr. Roecker is an amazing professor who takes the time to learn all his students' names. The practice exams are very similar to the actual exams. The labs are not hard and all of the homework is online.
Genuinely the best professor I have ever had. Hands down will go out of the way to help you out. Dr. Roecker is the best and this school needs to pay him a lot more.
Lee is amazing! he is genuinely a good guy and he cares about his student. there are 2 books you have to read during this course that is covered on several exams but they weren't terrible to read. Lee is super funny and he keeps his lectures interesting. The bottom line is if you show up to class and do the homework you should be just fine!
Dr. Roecker was an amazing professor, always willing to answer questions, and always respectful of his students.
Lee is my favorite professor ever. He made a difficult subject a piece of cake. His lectures were very good and you should probably go to class because he does a sign-in sheet and it's just a fun environment. He posts practice exams that are almost identical to the exam just changing numbers. He makes sure he knows every student on a personal note.
I loved taking this class with Roecker. He provides so much extra help such as practice problems, and practice exams that are very similar to the actual exams. He is also very accessible outside of class if you need direct help from him, he gives several contact options, and always responds fast. There also is a sign in sheet for attendance!
Great professor, definitely cares about his subject and how his students perform
lee is the best for ch 105. he gives out practice exams that are just like the exam. a couple homework assignments but if you show up to class you will pass. takes attendance
Lee is awesome! I love him with all my heart. He is definitely like a cool grandpa and he's very passionate about chemistry. He makes class fun and learnable, and he actually teaches you which is really nice. He is a great professor and I would love to have him again.
Lee was a great professor. Very clear in his explanations. Overall seemed like a good guy. The 2 books assigned in class were relevant but did not help understanding the material. No real textbook. Educat page was structured well and always printed hand outs for class. The handouts were printed in color which I liked.
Lee is awesome! I had never taken chem before I had him, and now I feel very knowledgeable and ready for my higher-level classes. His lectures are amazing and easy to understand, and he writes notes for you on the blackboard.
I dropped high school chemistry because I didn't like it. With that being said, chem 105 with Lee was my favorite class this year! He makes his lectures very easy to comprehend and offers lots of homework + practice opportunities. I'm glad I had him!
Homework was around 2 assignments per week, with exams every 2 weeks, but Roecker is an AMAZING professor. I walked in with hardly any knowledge of chemistry and at the end of the semester, I've consistently scored well above average on exams. He explains material in an engaging and clear way. 100% would take another course of his if I could.
This educator will simplify the material for you to be confident in knowing the information received! Open to meeting one on one in office and it's clear he enjoys teaching and makes learning fun! This professor is who you want to have if you have struggled in the past with Chemistry!
Great professor! He is a hard ass with grading and tests, but makes his lectures engaging and is always happy to do office hours to help with concepts. I was intimidated by him at first since he's very no BS, but it ended up helping me a lot with accountability in the class. He took time to remember me as well, and is all over a great professor!
I loved Lee as a professor! He's passionate, engaging, and his lectures are easy to follow. He's available often via text and has frequent office hours. It's clear he cares about our success and forming relationships with students. He also posts supplemental problems for extra practice, which is very helpful.
This man is a chemistry god. I had him for CH105 this semester and he was fantastic. Chemistry was never my favorite subject but he kind of changed that. not only was he fun, but I actually learned from him. If you have to take this class you will be just fine!
I took this class years ago, but I will never forget the times I went to office hours for help. He would tell me I would arrive at the correct answer then do some extra crap making it wrong. He was very frustrated with me due to my tendency to over think and was unable to assist me further. It made me feel inadequate. Everyone else liked him though
Dr. Roecker is a very engaging professor, I ended up changing my major and taking a different one of his chem courses 2nd semester. I love his lecture style, it's clear he is passionate and wants you to succeed. Showing up to lecture is crucial for success, but if you do his practice homework and practice exams, you WILL succeed.
handsome fella
Wonderful Professor. This class isn't "easy" by any means, but Mr.Roecker makes it very rewarding and takes all the frustration out of learning chemistry. You're going to have to put work in if you want to get a good grade, it's a lot of material, but you couldn't get a better teacher than Mr.Roecker, couldn't recommend him enough.
