She is a great teacher and very clear about what she expects from the class. I highly recommend taking a class with her!
Good teacher. Good sports angle. Finest lady in the class.

great professor, nice and classy. as long as you do your work you'll be fine
Excellent prof. Learned more from her than in my entire college career. Extremely brilliant. Easily accessable for help.
Once I got used to Dr. Torda's in your face approach, I loved the class. She really cared about her students and was available for help ANYTIME of the day even after you've taken her class. Everyone take a class with her, shes great. Just do the work!
Excewllent Teacher, a little hard, but she really gets us involved. I actually look forward to this class. She's one of the best teachers I've ever had!
very hyper at times, but once she calms down, is great to work with. tends to post emails pertaining to class 5 or so minutes before it's beginning & in such is confusing. very helpful explaining what her goals for class are.
fun and interesting. do the work and you will have no problem
if the sylabus intimidates you, dont leave the class. stick it through, write the papers, do what she asks, and you'll do fine. I got an A, I liked the class, she's a young professor and can relate to students. highly recommended!!! took class spring 02
Excellent professor--extremely knowledgeable and insightful. She was very accessible outside of class for any help I might need. A wonderful woman!
WICKED AWESOME
Loves what she teaches, and loves to teach. She manages to both be goofy and professional at the same time, and is a great person to get to know. She's flexible, but don't expect to slide by without working. One of the best, hands down.
Great Teacher! I would take her again in a heart beat. Syllabis is very intimidating, but hang in there - it eases off toward the end. Do all the papers and be friendly. You'll make new friends in this class
Quite possibly the best teacher I ever had. Her class was a lot of work but I got so much out of it and she was always there to help no matter what. I'll definitely take classes with her again.
I really love her as a teacher. She was great and gave open, honest feedback. If you like a fresh, young, highly energetic teacher- she is the one. Bridgewater needs more like her!
Disiked her style of teaching and her sttitude toward the work.
Very creative writting assignments. One of my favorite Professors at this school. She makes you work hard, but she is a genuine person. Got an A- in the class.
Great teacher!Great mentor! Great advisor!
Torda is an amazing teacher. She is fun, creative and always listens to what students have to say. Taking her course will prepare you for all the college writing you will need to do.
Really helpful and insightful.
Half cosmopolitan debutante, half hokey Midwestern girl. Either way, she's a blast. If you put the effort in, she'll invest in your progress with the fire of a thousand suns. She might grate on a few, sure, but most people, myself included, like her. She will, however, make you work for her respect.
Prof. Torda...let me count the many ways of her greatness! She is one of the best Prof. I've ever had. She is helpful, has high expectations, can be intimidating, but will help all along the way. When you complete her course your writing skills will have improved 100%. Loved her selection of rdings.
By far, the hottest teacher at the school. She is also fun and interested and lets the students dictate what they take from the class. you take from the class what you put in. So, so hot...so hot.
TORDA! I love this woman! She is the best! Take her class - you will learn so much. She is wonderful.

Definitely a nice professor. She loves reading/writing and is passionate about it, which is nice to see. Very approachable and easy to talk to, and you can see she enjoys what she does. She expects a lot from you and gives a bit of work. The only criticism I would have of her is her online syllabus is a bit unclear in it's format.Great teacher.
she was awesome very nice, and funny! her assignments were hard she expects alot and isnt afraid to tell u they have lots of flaws, but it helps u and at the end of her class ur a diff. writer, and its pretty easy to get a good grade if u show up, and she gives a party on the day of finals with free lunch
Professor Torda is a wicked good teacher. I've learned so much in this class. She makes you work hard and expects a lot from you but she really tells you how she feels about your papers and what you should do to improve. I never minded going to class!
Possibly has the sharpest mind combined with the most generous spirit of any professor I have met. Enthusiastic, inspiring, understanding if you are struggling in any way to meet the class requirements. Do the reading and contribute to class discussions and you will be rewarded with her very sincere gratitude. She wants you to do well!
best prof. you can ever get for writing 1 or 2, shes brilliant!!
Excellent professor. She is fun and class goes by fast. If you following her instructions assignment expectations are laid out. She also give great feedback and wants to see everyone be successful. Definitely take writing with her.
Dr. Torda is an amazing prof., even if you suck at writing and you cannot write one sentance, she will help you. She tells you whats wrong, and actually tells you how to improve it, shes nothing like the other prof. you will have in college. She cares about who you are and i can guarantee that you will learn as much as i did.
Lee truly cares about her students. I had to take her because I was on academic probation. She helped me recover, and she even continued to assist me after I was no longer in any of her classes. She is a very caring individual and she's also attractive ;)
She is the best professor, i loved her and wish i could have her again. she really cares about her students. class flys by and she always has you working in groups. i would def say to take her
Lee one of the best prof. I've take so far IN MY LIFE. She really cares about her students and she is extremely helpful. Prepare yourself to work hard,go to class, read and do all her hw & you'll be FINE. Nice but a hard grader. I love her and wouldn't might taking her class again. we cool now :)
This is an awesome teacher!!! She takes the time to teach her passion. Be ready to work though. Showing up for class is a must or you get behind. Her enthusiasm just encourages me to try harder and met all the challenges that she presents to me.
Torda is a wonderful teacher! Be prepared to work really hard though; lots of writing and reading. She allows for critiques of rough drafts in class & she's more than willing to help. You are expected to do research via interviewing & the typical book research. This class is challenging but very rewarding! English majors w/ writing concen.-do take!
By far one of the toughest teachers I met but she really nice. But there's a reward for it because you progress dramatically. The work is massive. In-class writing, 2-3 pages journals due. formal essays due. She helps alot.
This professor is awesome! She exremely helpful and will do anything to make sure you understand what your doing. There is a lot of work for the class but her classes are fun and interesting.
Caveat: I attended two classes led by Dr. Torda over consecutive summers at Upward Bound in Orono . . . about fifteen years ago. She was (is) energetic, dedicated, demanding, exasperating, stimulating, fascinating, and breathtaking. She drives you to prove your intellectual worth to her. And she's goofy cool.
Torda is a great teacher! I strongly recommend her. If you want to improve on your writing, you will. You just have to work hard. If you show her you're trying and work to improve you'll get an A. She's so helpful and she's a fun teacher too!
I went into this class having no clue what i would be learning. By the end, i became a much better writer and had more confidence in the work i was producing. Lee Torda was a great teacher who was always willing to help, not only in this class but outside of this class. She expects a lot from her students, as well as from herself. Great class!
A lot of work!
Professor Torda is the most eloquent and poised member of BSU (besides Curley). I took her writing 301 class and was blown away. We read heavily between handouts and textbooks, but it wasn't an impossible load. Each class was composed of heavy discussions and a student presentations. I gained more confidence in my writing. Take her classes!!!!!!!!!
Torda is such an awsome professor. Though she does give a lot of work but it is to help you with your writing. She is really funny and always there to help you. If you have to take an english class really try to get her!
I absolutely love Lee Torda. She is an amazing professor with a great sense of humor. Her class is very accommodating. Her class does require a lot of work, but were already over halfway through the semester and I can already see huge improvements with my writing. I would suggest taking her course!
Torda is an excellent hilarious professor. While some assignments were not entirely clear, she was more than willing to help students understand course material. She approaches her students' learning lovingly and it really shows through her unwavering dedication and friendliness.
She was a great professor to have. She makes you do a lot of little things through out the semester but it is all manageable and i feel like she grades you on the effort you put into it. I am planning on taking another class with her soon. She is awesome, nice and really does care about her students! I would recommend her.
I absolutely love LT, she is so down to earth and is always there for her students. There are only 4 major papers that she allows you to revise. The class does require a good amount of work but it is easy and LT makes it worth it. There aren't any test or quizzes. Basically put effort in and you will pass.
LT is hands down my favorite teacher of all time. She truly cares about the students, which is the most important quality you should be looking for in a teacher. She's not super strict on anybody, but she doesn't do well with slackers. This class had a decent amount of work, but nothing super hard. I would recommend her to anybody!
There is a lot of reading and writing, but it did help a lot with improving my writing. I really felt like she cared about me and was a very easy person to talk to. She truly wants each and every one of her students to succeed. She also loves Star Wars, so that just proves she is awesome.
Best teacher I've ever had so far! Came off as kind of intimidating but she really isn't at all. What I loved the most about her is instead of just giving you a grade she has these conferences and writes these letters where she tells you what you did right and what you need to work on. She also truly cares about all her students which is great!
Best professor at BSU. She makes you work hard, but through the hard work your writing and reading skills sharpen immensely, which helps so much once you move on to other classes. She is also the kindest person ever, and she truly cares about all her students. Do yourself a favor and take her!
Professor Torda came in to teach our class after our previous professor passed away. She has done an amazing job, and you can tell she truly cares about her students. She is always willing to meet with you one on one to go over a draft, and is very helpful when doing so. I highly recommend this professor!
Professor Torda is an energetic and outgoing teacher. I've always hated English until this class, she made me want to show up and participate. She gives 4 papers and about 10 little papers that are real easy. Her grading is very clear and accurate. Torda goes out of her way and truly cares for each and every student. Absolutely recommend her!
this is suppose to be a class to help u become ready for college level, it feels like you are in an AP class. If youre not use to managing 3 different papers (3-5 pages each) at once due weekly and getting youre other work done for other classes DO NOT take her as a teacher for this class. She does not really like to go over directions either.
This woman is the most caring and inspiring teacher I have ever had. She is really goofy, but at the same time very professional, and it is really rare to find a teacher that can balance those two things. Work load is heavy, but if you do all of it she rewards you big time. I would recommend her to anyone!
Torda is the best professor at BSU, no questions asked. She gives excellent feedback, she is caring and passionate, and she truly wants all of her students to succeed. She is also really funny (in a goofy, Torda sort of way) which allows for classes to always be interesting. I love her, I love her classes, and I highly recommend that you take her!
Great professor but is not really clear on due dates since the syllabus kept changing. Gives really detailed feedback!
Great professor. Great adviser. Great Mentor. And above all, great person. She will go above and beyond to help her students succeed, and will truly inspire you to be the best student, writer, and person you can be. A 350 character comment cannot fully entail how much Dr. Torda has changed my life. She is truly amazing.
Lee Torda is the most caring professor at BSU. At the end of each semester, she always says "once you are my student you are always my student." I have found this to be 100% true. After the semester is over I still go to her for school advice, for guidance, and simply sometimes to talk. Torda is my person, and I'm sure she could be yours too!
This is the WORST english class I have ever taken. She is so disorganized, due dates are not clear and once we were behind in her syllabus she never adjusted it, including when our midterm portfolio was due. She also grades hw on an "Acceptable" or "Unacceptable" basis, so even if you do it, you don't get credit until she is satisfied with the work
Lee Torda is the best!! Her writing assignments are super interesting and class flies by due to her great sense of humor. Her website CAN be confusing if its your first time using it-- but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine. She also gives the best feedback of any professor I've ever had. Real sign that she cares about your work. Must take!
Dr. Torda really made me think about my writing. She is fantastic.
Lee Torda is the epitome of a teacher who makes you want to be a teacher. Her enthusiasm is contagious. She is an easy grader with a rigorous workload. She will give you and A , make you break a sweat by getting it, and make you feel like you've actually learn something in the process.
This was Torda's first online class and I took it with her right after I took her in person for the firs time- so there was a learning curve for sure. But she still manages to pick things I the classroom that are inspiring for future teachers.
Professor Torda means well, but she is the most disorganized person I've met, constantly contradicts herself, and does not know what she is doing. She is a very nice lady, but not made for teaching. I took her class because it was the only section available, and deeply regret it. This is more of an education class than a writing class.
If you have a learning disability or mental disorder avoid this professor.
She is the most disorganized teacher I've ever had. Doesn't even open discussion boards until late at night when class is early the next morning. If you have a question she always says "check the syllabus" but the syllabus won't be updated. Changes the schedule A LOT. Causes major anxiety. She makes you think about important topics, but not helpful
I want so badly to be able to rate her well but I cant. She seems promising at the beginning of the semester but reveals her true colors toward the middle-end. She makes many backhanded comments towards her students, never holds herself accountable when things go wrong, and is just very dysfunctional and unorganized.
She was a very inspiring professor at the beginning of the semester, but toward the middle-end of it, she became very disorganized. She wouldnt update the syllabus or inform us of the changes, so we would end up reading stuff we wouldnt cover in class. Id take her again, but in person. She is a good professor, but still needs a lot to learn!
Dr. Torda's teaching style may not be for everyone, but it's because she makes you work for a good grade. She won't hand you anything. She also expects that you want to be there, so your effort matters. Her feedback can seem intimidating, but she's challenging you to be a better writer. She wants you to do well but you need to do your part, too.
Don't let the negative comments below cloud your judgement. Torda is an amazing professor! She gives great feedback, and was the first person that inspired me to go into teaching. She can be disorganized at times but, really, what professor isn't? Last year was the first time many professors were virtual. Give them a break! They all did their best.
Fair warning, this class is HARDWORK! But, it is incredibly rewarding if you take the time to do it. Dr. Torda has been one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever taken at BSU. She is an absolute wealth of knowledge and charisma to match. She will challenge you and she will push back on you, it is all out of the love and respect she has for us.
I've had more group projects in this single class than I've had in my entire college career. Torda truly cares for her students. She tends to be slightly disorganized and the class seems to want to achieve too much in too little time. If you can handle quick syllabus adjustments and a high workload, I'd recommend it.
I did not receive a single grade from Dr. Torda until the day before final grades were posted. By this point, the semester was over and I couldn't have done anything to change my final grade even if I wanted to. The course was very disorganized and communication was almost non-existent. Maybe she's a better prof in person but avoid an online class.
Not very good at communicating and did not give any grades all semester. She said she was having a tough semester, so this could be a fluke. However, I found all of the assignments to be really easy so it was fine bc I assumed I would get an A. Super simple and took no time. Have to buy like 8 novels yourself, it was about $80 for them all. Easy A
I took an online class with Dr. Torda. Her syllabus was disorganized and always changing. There was little to no communication. She assigned a novel a week and sometimes did not have the appropriate links up until the day the work was due. She was very kind as a person but extremely difficult as a prof. Would not take again.
Dr. Torda is immensely concerned with her students' progress in class and in real life, shich shows in the fantastic reading material. The workload is manageable and she's understanding about group projects. She is unfortunately too busy to be timely with communication or returning assignments which makes it difficult to ascertain your progress.
Dr.Torda is extremely nice and funny, but she is so so so disorganized. She doesn't use Blackboard, she doesn't answer her email, her syllabus is outdated, she cancels classes, and she doesn't grade anything. I felt confused all semester and had no clue what I was supposed to be doing.
