Mr. is very nice Understandable, calm, and very persuasive. He will allow you to do your project or homework in your way and will later explain a way that you can able to understand and will be very clear. The cool part is he is very cool and clam and helpfull.

Lee made math understandable. i have always had a really hard time with math, but i finally got it in this class. after this class i actually kinda like math. he is a great teacher. i definitely recommend him.
lee is rad. super patient and so helpful. he is one of those rare teachers who acknowledges that not everyone loves or enjoys math, and he explains the concepts accordingly. if you pay attention and attend you will do well.
His teaching methods are boring compared to other math professors. If you are good at math you'll be ok,but you better be prepared for a lot of boring hours and a LOT of homework and they are only worth 3 points a piece, yest I say 3 points each. He dresses like a total slacker and is very laid back but really smart at math. Overall recommended
He is a great instructor. Very patient, understanding, and flexible. He is a rare gift to teaching. Understands that not everyone works at the same pace and adjusts accordingly. Great teacher!
Lee is the best math instructor I have ever had. His lectures are direct and presented in a way that is very understandable. He is a one of a kind instructor that is not afraid to teach the material his own way (which is way better than the book!). Kind/funny persoanlity and very willing to go out of his way to help if asked. Highly Recommended!
Lee was great. I wasn't sure the first class that i took with him how it was going to be, but he is very helpful. Most of his study sheets are IDENTICAL to the exams... he changes the numbers, but keeps the questions looking the same. I had him for 131 and 132 and recieved A's in both. His methadology is different, but great overall!
The best math teacher I've ever had - maybe one of the best teachers. I was always a pretty good math student, but Lee explained things in a way that allowed me to understand WHY the math worked the way it worked. Put in effort and he'll ultimately grade on how you THINK. I actually enjoyed going to class. He's sarcastic, laid back, and fun.
Great teacher, very helpful and explains things well; do your homework and do it well to keep up with this level of class.
Amazing Professor! Best I ever had, he continuously will work with you until you get it! He is very laid back and I love his sarcasm. TAKE HIM IF YOUR TAKING MATH 254!!!!
I spent my quarter in the tutoring center but that was becuase of the level of the math class, not Lee. He was always extremely helpful and works with the students with out attitude or acting annoyed...you have to be very motivated to do well in this class because it's not easy but Lee (with his chill attitude and humor) makes it a fun class!
I took this class two thimes before and was just not getting it. He was very understanding. I would stay after class if I didn't understand something, and his relaxed personality allowed me to finally understand the material. I took this class with two other supposedly great professors, but they don't compare to Lee AT ALL.
great professor, crystal clear teaching and understandable
Wayand is defferent. His constatnt referal to the "ya know" phrases will annoy u. His class is easy in the sense that you can ask classmates for help during quizzes and are sometimes fun (you'll have to take the class to understand). I personally am not very good at understanding his teaching methods. Very laid back, but different.
Lee is an awesome instructor! He is very relaxed about hw and quizzes, he lets you ask ?'s about quizzes and if you dont get all the hw done on time will let you turn it in later. Very sarcastic and jokes a lot but he makes math a fun class
Lee is a very good instructor. He doesnt tell you, but he is extremely relaxed on homework and quizzes. I did well on all of my homework and tests, but toward the end of the qtr had a death in the family and failed my final and I still passed with a C... He is very understanding....
Lee is amazing, take his class! I have taken 103 2 times before and every other professor is so serious! He's very relaxed about EVERYTHING, if you ask to turn something in late he never says no. He's funny and very easy to approach and ask for help. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can take him for 104!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. i loved this teacher. Highly recommend him. he's very funny and makes class very fun. 2nd time taking this course and he did a great job on teaching. very laid back. very easy grading on homework, quizzes, and tests. wish i could have him again. gonna miss him.
Very confusing. rarely teaches from book. makes jokes that do not help the class understand the subject.
Explains concepts in a way you can understand and is very helpful. Definitely knows what he is talking about too. One of the best math teachers I've had!
Have yet to find a Math 150+ teacher at CSCC I don't like. Lee's style is a little zaney, but fun and fair. Made the material less challenging than I was expecting. My new prof seems to think Lee skipped over a couple strategies for integrating "special case" formulas, but I think I prefer his method of focusing more on core skills. Def recommend.
Do not take this class online. I thought it would be the typical math lab fare, but it strays heavily and is very difficult. Wayand is very funny and encouraging, however, so perhaps it would be better taken in person.
Very good teacher and very helpful. My grandmother died during the quarter and I had to miss a class for the funeral. I did lousy on the test that followed the funeral and he let me retake it. He's funny and fair and I recommend him.
Highly recommended! I took Lee for Math 103 and 104 and was very happy!! He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities (TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM) and is quick to respond to questions. I wish he was teaching 148. Do your homework and quizzes, ask questions and you'll do fine.
I took this class online after dropping the in-class the previous quarter. This class kicked my butt, but this teacher (and tutoring lab) pulled me through the darkness. I netted a high B (the final almost killed me), but this instructor saw how much effort I put forward and awarded me the extra credit for a final A. Super nice guy.
Excellent teacher. He really cares about his students, as well as his approach to mathematics. Take his class!
Do not take this class if you have no sense of humor! The emails at the beginning of the quarter cracked me up. There are quizzes due every week, and while you will lose points for writing a fraction wrong, you can get partial points for showing work even if you make a small mistake. He lets you know what he expects and grades very fairly.
Difficult to understand
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER, I'M SO GLAD I TOOK CALCULUS WITH HIM. HE'S A FAIR GRADER AND HE KEEPS EVERYTHING INTERESTING... CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE CALC 2 WITH HIM
Professor Wayand is probably the smartest man I have ever met. He chose not to teach from the textbook, which is the smartest thing any Calc teacher could do. He taught us so we can understand math not just memorize how to do the problem. I would definitely recommend to any student
Awesome teacher. He is quick to answer questions if you have them. I barely had to open the book because his chapter notes were great. Take advantage of the test reviews because they are very helpful. Also, there is an opportunity for extra credit each week so take advantage of that too.
Leeeeeee, a really interesting teacher to say the least. I took Calc in HS, so his class wasn't very difficult regardless, but he definitely made it very exciting. If you have not taken Calc, however, I highly suggest not taking Lee for it, the ways explains it works for some, but for a large majority it simply doesn't click. Awesome person though.
Difficult class, there are 1-2 quizzes due a week even on test weeks. There is a lecture provided and an online textbook written by him. Most quizzes include at least one question not explained in the lectures and he expects you to go further than his lecture with confusing unexplained questions. My tutor even struggled with some of them
Lee really goes out of his way to help his students. He is really good about saying things in ways that students can relate to and actually laugh at, which is amazing considering very few people actually like a calculus class. If you have a hard time with math and want someone to explain it well, I definitely recommend him.
Extremely responsive, funny if a bit awkward. He's good at breaking things down, and definitely knows what he's talking about. Textbook was free, incredible! If you work hard you'll do well.
Worst time of my life. I thought I could do it for a while. There is no classwork, just weekly quizzes (2-3) 5 pts. each. The only thing that matters are the tests (4). They match the quizzes, but the quizzes don't match the weekly reading sometimes! It truly sucks. 80% of our class was lost majority of the time. Online textbook CONFUSING
This online class is the hardest class I've ever taken. 2-3 quizzes per week over lessons, problem is, the quizzes have nothing to do with the lessons given. The online free textbook is extremely confusing and impossible to read so it's basically useless. Teacher is nice and emails back quickly. Unless you REALLY understand math, don't take this.
Wayand uses his own textbook yet somehow his quizzes/tests don't match the suggested homework from it. This professor is rude. When students expressed concern about their grades, he sent multiple belittling emails about how our class was never properly taught and it wasn't his problem. Wayand grades with the same attitude, leaving snide comments.
This class is the worst designed class it's almost set up for you to fail I worked my ass off everyday! There's no book, there's no real guide to find out if your doing the work correctly! I emailed him he basically told me to use the internet! He doesn't provide anything he's a nice guy when you meet with him but one test out ways 66 homeworks
Stay away from 1109, I truly believe this class is to fail student's! No book! Professor doesn't help much when emailed! Slow grader! He's also the only person teaching it! Don't take this class
I went in with absolutely no background in any of the subjects and did poorly, even with tutoring and lots of work. I learned quite a bit, though.
Lee believes in helping his students understand the material and challenges them to push beyond their limits. I've never had a math class that I enjoyed more and would gladly take any class that Lee teaches.
Worst professor ever. Does not know how to teach, he thinks his funny, he doesn't care for students, and all he wants is students to fail.
I took his class for 3 weeks last summer, but had to drop it because I got a 0/150 on my first test. Anyways, since this is an online class, so YOU are basically teaching yourself the class. The homework consists of taking notes from textbook, which is very vague and confusing. I had to look up the solutions to the problems on other websites.
I would have passed with an A+ but I straight up did not study for my final so I did failed it. But if you put in a bit of work on each section before the tests, you will be fine, he is trying to make you learn for yourself and keep you on track. He is a good teacher, just a bit of a different teaching style then we are used to. Take Lee, good dude
Fantastic Professor. I loved him. He made his class very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him
Lee is a great guy, the class is not your normal math class and was very hard. I took this class thinking it would be easier than the 1148 class and I'm not sure if it would have been. He tells you that you basically have to flail around in the deep end and then figure out how to swim. As the semester went on the class did get a little bit easier.
everything this guy says is pretentious. cant take criticism and told me to my face its my fault that hes upsetting me. there are points where he actually helps and i think maybe hes not that bad but im always disappointed the next time he opens his mouth. the way he speaks make you feel stupid and humiliated and he refuses to work on that.
Do not recommend. He does not lecture at all (so what is he getting paid to do?) or answer any question with a clear response. Tries to joke, not funny. Waste of your money/time to take this class. Students may have to rely on tutors to do the job he is supposed to do, teach. CALC is better taught w/ examples, explanation, not his lazy method.
This class isnt like other classes. Its based off of small groups, which is helpful. Lee walks around and provides help when its needed. Its a difficult class but only in the beginning as you adjust to the way things are taught. Probably my favorite math class Ive ever taken. Each class is worth participation points so you should go.
Lee was an amazing teacher! I went in only having taken pre-calc in high school and he taught calculus THOROUGHLY. His tests are difficult though but you can talk to him about it after. USE THE TUTORS IN ROOM 314!! He's a very flexible teacher and will adjust based on what you need. The first month might be hard but stick it out. You got this!!
This guy gives you a worksheet of 80 problems for homework but worth very little overall. Test is super heavy, usually 80% of grades. He grades really tough, unless you explain EVERY little steps and details. You should learn on your own, textbook doesnt really help. He is a great, but not good at teaching. No extra credit. Not recommended.
wayand did not teach the class at all. All of the class was reading from the textbook and homework. Wayand was also terrible at providing additional resources and help with questions.
Professor Wayand is a truly despicable excuse for a professor. His teaching methods include teaching yourself and relying solely on the textbook whenever you struggle. I would NEVER take this teacher again. He is awful and rude. If you have trouble understanding something, which you likely will, he is guaranteed to make you feel terrible. 0/10
Has a fundamental misunderstanding of his role as an instructor. He puts in no effort to actually teach the material and excuses this as "a new way of learning." He claims students won't understand him if he tries to explain concepts, because he's too knowledgable and experienced? It's your job as the instructor to explain the course material...
Claims to be too good at calculus and knows the material so well that it wouldnt make sense to you if he tried to explain. If I knew that this professor wasnt engaging or helpful, I would have switched instructors before the deadline. Ended up dropping after receiving incredibly disrespectful emails and low grades with no notes.
He was rude in person and over email. I took him last year and switched classes. He teaches with the socratic method- basically, he asks questions to your questions to try to help you understand. Makes calculus very confusing and he NEVER clearly answers you. Sarcastic and unencouraging. Will literally laugh at you... he laughed at me in my face.
Lee was by far the worst, most disrespectful professor I've ever had. He didn't teach at all, he just assigned online and written homework and if you sent an email asking him to help you he would reply with snarky, condescending remarks or just more questions in response to your question. Did not seem to care about student success or understanding.
Lee doesn't teach. In 11 weeks he hasn't explained a single concept. When students ask questions he laughs and doesn't give a clear answer. He claims this helps but for most students it's embarrassing and confusing. I got an A despite all this, thanks to Khan Academy. You're basically on your own, so see a tutor whenever you can.
He never actually taught anything in class. The entire online lecture time was spent solving problems in small groups and then having him tell you that you were wrong without actually explaining how to do it right. The problems from lecture never actually corresponded with the homework either. He was very rude when you got things wrong in lecture.
He doesn't teach a thing. The entire time you're on your own, in lectures he doesn't take notes you do problems in small break out rooms.. bad for anxiety. And he doesn't give clear answers or feedback. He's very hard on grading when it comes to hw and tests.
Wayand is somewhat of a tough grader, and his tests can be difficult, but don't let this discourage you. Although he may have a sarcastic sense of humor, he is actually more than willing to give solid feedback. The class can be hard at times, but taking notes on Ximera really helps (I took it asynch). Do your homework. Study. Ask questions.
Absolute scam of a course offered by Professor Wayand. Chose this course as it was specifically listed as a "Live, Online" class with live lectures and teaching. Never once did he lecture or teach calculus at any point during a live session. He had everybody use a free, online program called Ximera. Was incredibly rude and swore often during class.
I think Lee is a great professor. I consider myself to be terrible at math, yet I passed this class with an A. There is a lot of work, but I think that is part of the reason why I was able to get an A. Lee is very personable, funny, and gives great feedback. The textbook he wrote really helped me understand a lot of the concepts in his class.
Wayand was awful, lazy, and did not teach. His online classes were marked as live lectures, and not once did he teach a lesson during his lectures. He was a tough grader for a class with 100% no guidance. I took this class as an alternative to OSU's calc program and it was a waste of money.
Doesn't teach during his online class and a very hard grader. Doesn't explain reasoning for points off and certainly doesn't give any credit just for attempting to show work. Doesn't understand computer difficulties and doesn't question if a student turns in a blank homework (which to anyone else would probably be a computer problem).
I ended up dropping this course since he heavily relied on this site through Ohio State University called Ximera. He never taught in the Zoom meetings and expected students to collaborate to solve each math problem. If you didn't attend the Zoom meeting, you were bound to fail this course. He's a nice guy but doesn't teach the course at all.
Please, don't pick this teacher. You are better off looking for different teachers even if it means that you might have to take 1151 next semester. This guy does not teach nor does he put recorded lesson on BB. Don't get me wrong, I love math. I haven't had any problems with math until I met this guy. Save yourself some money & get someone else.
I didn't enjoy the way professor Wayand taught math. He created all the homeworks and they were not easy. Your're allowed to revise them before each test, but sometimes he would grade them late so you only have a day to revise 20 homeworks. You really have to work hard to keep your grade up, he is willing to sort of help so you don't fail.
If you are only looking to take calculus 1 for the credits, you'll be fine. Homework makes up the majority of the grade so as long as you keep on top of it you'll pass just fine. If you are going to take further calculus courses, find a different professor because Wayand does not lecture at all and you will be lost.
He only uses lecture time for you to ask questions, he does not teach at all. His exams are worth 100 points for ONE QUESTION. His feedback and expectations were awful and unjustifiable. He expected you to write a 'story' of how you got to the answer and would take off points for everything, with no partial credit. He relied on Ximera to teach us.
Flipped classroom where you learn at home and review in class. This is not the way that I can learn and it made the course very difficult. Gives you paper homework every class due next class and you have to learn the next unit before the next meet as well. Does no teaching. Cusses too much and care for your performance if you dont ask questions.
Drop his class before you waste money
You will learn so much about calculus in this class. It was the hardest class I ever took, but he is very nice and will help you with anything. He has office hours throughout the week and you can email him for help. The tests can be brutal but after the first month/month and a half it gets better if you do your work.
Unorthodox compared to most courses/professors. Course is driven by reasoning and math communication, stressing use of precise terminology. Heavy use of written homework, but that creates a loop where Lee can give you feedback and you can resubmit to make up lost points if you choose. Highly recommend, especially if you have further math to take.
Lee Wayand was very responsive to emails, and always made room for questions and worked out any problems you wished. there are about 35 chapters you have written homework, reading, and practice problems for, so do not put off and always ask ahead of time for questions. very unorthodox teaching but prepares you for calculus. took 1148 and 1149.
He was a challenging teacher but I've never understood math as much as I did with Lee. He gave entertaining lectures and the students felt comfortable answering questions and speaking up. His lectures are much different than what teachers normally do. He really works off the students the more you participate, the more you'll get out of this class.
Lee didn't teach at all and told us if we were wrong, he wouldn't tell us. Gave little to no help, split us into groups and expected us to learn from each other, which isn't helpful when your group is also confused by his 15-minute lectures. When he could come by and help us, it would be for 5-10 minutes, which isn't enough.
Professor lee wayand math class is nothing short of a mathematical nightmare. The lectures are a chaotic blend of incomprehensible mumbling. The textbook adds to the confusion, leaving students utterly lost. Grading is arbitrary, resembling a puzzle with no clear solution. Office hours offer no reprieve, it's best avoided.Worst class don't take it.
Don't waste your money. his course doesn't work, he grades incredibly harshly but is also vague in his reasons and doesn't help much, he will lie and he will tell you he does, you will not be prepared for calculus at all. he's inattentive with emails and doesn't support many of his claims.
Absolutely not, would never take again, as it is like pulling teeth from an anal cavity. Lee Wayand is a terrible professor who uses his job to play mind games and even grade your answers incorrectly or flat out not tell you what you did wrong all for no reason.
Nothing short of a nighmare 0/10
try's to be a quirky teacher but falls flat in the aspect of teaching. He acts like the Riddler when you ask a plain and simple question. DO NOT TAKE PLEASE!
Rating this guy is difficult. He genuinely seems like a good person who wants for students to succeed. However, me and like half the class need to retake this course. Can some of it be due to calculus being notoriously hard? Yes, of course. Professor Wayand rushes you through things, with little time for asking questions.
Mr. Lee is well meaning (but rather crude) teacher but is brought down by the reverse class he insists on doing and the way he teaches in general. Trying to get information or help with concepts from him was like trying to outsmart a genie, he always found some way of screwing you over. He is, however, okay with accepting late work.
Good professor. He seems to actually want us to pass and to learn. However, his teaching technique is very confusing for me. I feel that I learn better by seeing first then doing and he has us learn by each other. If you do all your homework, make corrections, and study more plus give tests your best, you can pass. Course is super hard, he is nice.
Professor Lee is one of my favorite math teachers ever; he cares if you care, and he's more focused on learning and progress than grades. That sounds bad on paper, but if you stick with the process and use the resources given to you. It might take some time, but you'll be alright. He's also really funny
