She is very mean and does not know how to interact with her students. She should not be teaching. She creates bad environment in class.
I hated her.
She can be really mean. If students find her mistakes, she gets after them with no reason later.
Awesome teacher. She expects her students to attend class, do the readings assigned, and give well prepared speeches. She is tough, but this is college isn't it? Plus, she makes herself available if a student needs her help. I recommend her highly.

I was very interested and excited to take this class before,but Hobbs is a monster.She is on some kind of powertrip and tries to get students all the time.Even though assignments are"easy",she unreasonably gets after every little thing.She makes students cry.Don't be fooled by good review,she probably posted it herself.from30 students,only 12 left.
In the beginning Miss Hobbs was overpowering and even scary at times. She seemed unapproachable, and made you feel like crap if you asked her for help. I don't know why, but the last month she has changed drastically. She became a human being. She was helpful, seemed as if she cared if you understood, and her overall attitude changed. Keep it up!
Not helpful at all and not willing to listen to problems with groups or students at all. Dumps work on small groups with which she assigns members and then tells you to work out your own problems and don't complain to her. Comes off as not respectful to students, she seems not to care for them at all.
After only a couple weeks of class, I had to drop it because I couldn't stand her. I'll never take her again for anything.
I find it fairly entertaining that a communications teacher doesnt have the skills to communicate to her students what she would like them to do. By far the worst teacher at merced college.
She is very moody and generally unfriendly. I got an 89% in the class, which was the second highest grade, the highest being a 92%. overall, the class average grade (which she puts online) was ridiculous.

That is odd considering it was a communications class oh and the semester I took her class she herelf was attending college with a 14 unit load working towards her PHD so I think she is not focused on her community college students (mayb
AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS!!! Aimed to drop as much students as possible (less work for her). power-hungry. If you sign-up for the 12 day summer session you will get her as your teacher because the short summer comm. instructors combine their classes so they only have to do half the amount of work they are paid to do.
Hot teacher. Thats why I went to class.
LeeAnn expects her students to do the work assigned and communicate with her in the event of any problems. She gives you a step by step guide for notes and exams and has a wonderful personality. I would love to take another class with her.
I had Ms. Hobbs for the summer session and learned alot in a short amount of time. I am surprised by the "power hungry" comment. I went to her for help and she was very supportive of my efforts and questions. She expects you to do your work and that's why I think the students who wrote that doesn't like her. She isn't easy, but good.
This class was fun. I had a great group and Ms. Hobbs is fine. I liked it.

Does not put any effort into teaching. Only uses book to teach, including only notes from the book. If you ask her an intelligent question about the text, she will not know it, because she is a horrible teacher. Biased towards female students and hostile towards males. probably because of her non-existant love life.
She only requires 2 speeches in the semester, just read the chapters, or else she'll give reading quizzes if she knows nobody is reading. Print out the lecture notes and take notes during class. Study your notes for the tests and you are pretty much guaranteed an A on the tests. Prepare for your speeches in advance and practice. Great teacher!
Ms. Hobbs is a very attractive teacher, but remains professional. She requires little more from her classes than showing up, and occasional reading. Taking Comm 04 Comm 05 or Comm 30 from other instructors would be ill-advised. Ms. Hobbs is that "professional woman" kind of hot.
Great teacher! Very understanding and kept class interesting. She only gave quizzes if the class wouldnt participate in discussions. Only requires 2 speeches.
Ms. Hobbs is useless. grading, better watch out.She gives you on your performance a, say, 41.23. where in the world, did she get the .23%. All my classes are all As. She brought my GPA down and miss my A from her by .something%. No consideration at all.she deducts points from not doing well and missing class,but not doing good and good attendance

The online class felt REALLY disorganized; there was no one place to look to know what you needed to do that week; she posted wrong assignments or assignments with incorrect due dates more than once. Overall she was OK, though, once we adjusted.
I took this class online. It's not very hard. If you do the reading, you should have no problem. The in-class sessions are mandatory, but usually end early and are very informal. She's really good about responding to questions and giving assingments back quickly. She has a calendar that details the entire semester.
Keep in mind I'm a good student with good grades. She is nice until you disagree with her. After that she becomes short and defensive. Talks down to people. She also thinks she is always right. ****. Can't take a joke. Very anal about everything. Self Righteous. Very moody, can be nice one minute (rarely) and rude the next.
She's a good teacher. If you pay attention in class and do the readings she can tell and that will definitely help you. She's always seems fair to me, but I can understand how some people might find her to be somewhat offensive. I really don't think she means it when she does act a little rude or whatever...
This instructor does not describe the parameters of any of her assignments. She argues with respectful students on more than one occassion and with more than one student. She is very unproffessional and not very knowledgable on her subject as far as exterior concepts.
If you value your sanity stay far FAR away from this teacher. She basically just repeats her self, isn't clear on main points that will all of a sudden show up on a test for major points, and is quite rude as well. she will treat you like a child, and talk to you like one as well. if this class wasn't required i'd have dropped it already. STAY AWAY
This teacher is AMAZING! She is VERY clear with her assignments and grades them just fairly. She has high expectations but they aren't unattainable. Her tests are straightforward as long as you do the reading. I took this class because it's required but I'm taking another of her classes because she's so great.
I really enjoyed her class. She does expect you to be in class and do the reading but the outlines she gives are extremely helpful for her exams. You have to work for your grade, but that's what college is about! If you want to learn take Hobbs!
If you are reading this professor hoobs, I would just like to let you know that you're a horrible professor. Your teaching is boring and I, along with many others, do not LEARN anything due to your teaching. you lack sympathy and care for your students and by the end of this semester I am completely fed up with you.
Her grading is a disaster, if you lose 10 points then you lose 3-4% in your grade but when you score high the percent that goes up is like 1%. There were only 3 A's and 7 B's out of 35 people in the classroom. She deducts points if you are late to class!
The subject of this class is very interesting but the teacher lucks most of the qualities of a good teacher.She refuses to answer questions, she is offensive, aggressive and moody. I had the best grade in her class, however she put me and other students down whenever we asked her a question that she did not know.She lucks critical thinking.

She is talks down to people and is very confrontational. I have never seen a professor speak to students who cross her is such an unprofessional and disrespectful way. Class is easy , but assignments are difficult to get high marks on because she does not clarify her expectations, but some how expects students to know how she wants it. STAY AWAY.
I got an A in the class but it wasn't for a lack of trying. She's very unapproachable and can be unclear on some of the assignments. The exams were easy just use the chapter notes that she provides. There's a lot of small written projects and a group project. Attendance is a must! She deducts major points if you're late a certain amount of times.
You learn a lot of uselful things in this class, its a fun class overall. But Hobbs can be somewhat unclear in the way she wants assignments done. Hobbs is a moody teacher, you'll know if she's in a good or bad mood right away. She looks down upon on some students and makes rude remarks. Cell phone use is not tolerated, she will put you down.
i mean, hobbs isn't a bad teacher. The class is pretty straight forward. The HARDEST part about the class is getting your group together for the service. Shes not that baaad, but she does get mood swings.
Professor Hobbs, is not a bad person. She was nice to me at least. Her sarcasm can probably come out as rude at times, but I don't think she means to come out that way! Her class is easy, tests and essays. Our song assignment was a lot of fun even though I got a B on it! Overall grade was an A!
Hobbs is a great professor. I personally really enjoyed taking her class and having her as a teacher. The subject was very interesting and the class was easy. I had journals, a film assignment, and a song assignment. Tests are easy! Make sure to read the assigned chapters!!!
Although professor Hobbs teaches a communications class, her communication isn't great at all. She is very confrontational & will take things out on your grade. Do not expect to get full credit for anything you turn in, she will most likely find something to mark down. Be prepared for group activities during class, & triple check your exam answers!
very ironic for a Communication professor to LACK communication. i would not recommend her to anyone. her teaching is confusing and expects you to read know things that shes never mentioned before. attendance is a MUST. books are used 99% of the time.
She's very confusing she encourages students to interact in class discussion, then she discourages them. Hobbs excepts her students to read, be prepared to do so. Before lecture she picks on random students too ask about the reading assignments. There's 3 exams total through out the whole semester, and 4 papers.
Hobbs' class was personally my favorite. She was never boring, this was the only class I would look forward to going to. Reading is mandatory and she makes that very clear, but overall fun class!
Only offered/graded 4 assignments the whole semester, and does not take late work. Takes herself too seriously.
Only "homework" is reading. Friendly and open to questions for help or clarity. Sometimes askes students randomly what they learned from the reading. Max of 3-4 exams directly from reading. A couple easy projects & typed essays about films or yourself, applying concepts from reading. She just wants to know that you understand concepts.
Grades as if she is an English professor. Also, grades very difficult. Most assignments are simple and easy it askes for YOUR life events in relation to class lessons, its relevant but yet, marked wrong. She always has something to mark you down for. class of 34 only about 9 students had As and Bs; the rest had Cs or lower
She's very talkative which can be a good or bad thing. I liked how she talked a lot because there was a lot of discussion in our class. The more you talk the faster the class seems. One of the students has to talk or else she will wait until someone does.
She grades papers really tough so be prepared to work really hard on them. Concepts from the chapters are really important to include in any papers or discussions.
She's not every understanding. I had to miss class on day when we going to watch a movie that we had a paper on. I emailed her and told her that I had to work and that I would bring in the paper the next class and she blew up on me for "not following the schedule" because the paper wasn't due that day. So much for proving that I was responsible.
Ms Hobbs seamed somewhat pleasant the first couple of weeks - that was until she started coming to class rather fatigued and snippy. Although the assignments were fairly easy to grasp, only about 2 in the class (out of 30) had an A because she grades as if we're all senior-year communication majors. Avoid if possible, but if not - good luck!

She gives very few (3-4) graded assignments during the whole semester, but grades them with extreme specificity. If you have the chance to take a different professor, please save yourself the pain.
Professor Hobbs has a very clear grading criteria, but she is a very tough grader. She expects a lot from her students and if you do not meet her expectations then you won't pass. She makes you work for a good grade but overall she is a nice and caring teacher.
Professor Hobbs is funny with that being said yes she is a tough grader. Test are hard but the study guides are made available to students. Four papers during the semester worth a ton of points but like I said follow the guideline and you should be fine. Be ready to work or your grade. Also attendance is a must in her class.
I loved Mrs Hobbs! She is very relaxed and gives clear instructions on what she expects of you in the class. I would definitely take her again. I got an A and if you show up and do the assignments you could easily get and A.

Despite recent bad reviews, Miss Hobbs was pleasant for almost the entire semester. She even went out of her way to ensure we were ready to do the best we could in her class. However, she is a tough grader, so if you want to earn a high grade youll have to work hard for it, but when you really think about it, nothing good in life comes easy.

Tough grader, be Ready to work for your grade. If you're lazy or one of those that tend to leave things last minute. You will fail her class. I recommend you take another professor if you have the chance.
Great lectures but her lectures are not on the test at all. The test are super easy though you just have to study on the online homework but other that she is very nice and I would take her again.

At first Hobbs may have seemed intimidating and really tough at grading but as the semester progressed it seemed as if she was loosening up more and started to be more considerate to her students, she has specific criteria in her grading system do not take too much offense to it.
She is beyond rude. I found it ironic that she is a communications teacher and she lacks the skill by far. Her grading is dumb, she will dock you a point each assignment and never tell you why. She is a great Professor. Just do your reading and study. Also do your homework and be prepared. I dont know why people are so hard on her.. Just do your work and youll be fine. Shes actually very kind and will help you.
The class itself is wonderful. Some days I noticed she was in better moods than others. Stay on her good side & shes quite pleasant. Assignments are worth a lot of points but not hard at all. She loves what she teaches, you can tell. It was nice to learn so much about intercultural relationships.
Please look at her rating and remarks from other students, condescending, self -absorbed. After attending a course required by the dean due to complaints about her behavior. She gave the class a 16-page pager two days before spring break that was due the same week after returning from spring break. This paper was not in the syllabus or discussed.
Horrible experience. Her lectures are about old college flash backs and she rarely lectures about what topic we are studying. Assigns things and then changes date right before due with no announcement. She also assigns things not on syllabus. No rhyme or reason to how she grades your work. She stinks at communicating!! Dont take her class!!
Worst instructor I have ever taken. She is not very nice and her gradings are very hard. She gives last minute essay writing project details that was not listed in the syllabus. When came April she informed about a 15p paper that was literally due after spring break so pretty much you waste your time doing her paper instead of enjoying your break!!
Im a social science major, so getting along with different types of people isnt difficult for me. HOWEVER, Hobbs has been an exception. She likes to treat her students as if youre in high school. She likes to have complete control over her students. Shes harsh and will make wanting to come to class difficult. The first bad experience Ive had.
I do not want to dismiss anybodys unpleasant experience, but it has seems as MsHobbs has taken all these words into consideration. She is clear about her dead lines, she has a strong personality but not rude and works with you on what you need to fix. Interpersonal relationship course was a beautiful class and I grew so much because of it!
Her lectures were great and the assignments she gave us really helped me understand the material from the book. For those think that she grades hard, you probably didn't even read the instructions. She provides clear grading criteria for each assignment; as long as you follow it, you get the points. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot!
Some days she is pleasant&others days she is not. Teaches communications but speaks in a condescending manner to students. Does not show respect for her students&touts her political perspectives in class. Comes across as arrogant and self absorbed.
I don't know why she has such a low rating but personally, I loved having her as a professor. She's funny, but she also plays by the rules has strict but clear grading criteria along with the no late work policy. Professor Hobbs was great I took a hybrid course where we would only meet in person once a week. Was very direct and to the point which I appreciated. Her tests and quizzes were always on what she specified and didn't give busy work. I would definitely take her again
I had the privilege to take her class but unfortunately it was during the pandemic.. I had my father pass due to covid at that time and she asked me for paperwork and or photos to show that I was not lying. I couldn't show her anything because I was not allowed inside the hospital. She did not understand and did not pass me or want to round up.
For a communications teacher she isn't very good at communicating with her students.Her back hand comments and negitive energy is very strong and you have to catch her on her "good days".Comm is my major and it's disapointing to expierence a teacher that seems like she does not like her classes.Leactures in class are straight from the book.
During my time here at Merced, Hobbs is the worst professor I ever took with the WORST attitude. Hobbs is a white lady teaching intercultural comm. and only talks about her and her vacations. When she finally stops talking about herself. She then ask other minorities students for their experiences and had rude clap backs. Such a waste
Professor Hobbs is a great educator when it comes to COMM-05. She has very few papers that are assigned. Some of these papers include self-analysis on topics that are discussed in class or of movies that we viewed. She is also very caring and understanding but will set boundaries if it's necessary. She also provides take-home exams which is nice.
Listen, Stay away from this Professor, Literally take anybody else I promise. She seriously should be considered to be fired. I'm a hispanic man and I feel like she unfairly targets me, So disrespectful when I ask for help. Doesn't answer emails. Weird due dates, Unrealistic standards. You teach COMM 30, Not English.
This is the worst professor I have ever experienced. She should seriously be looked into being fired from the school. For someone who teaches communications- Professor Hobbs does not understand how to communicate professionally or respectfully to her students. She is ignorant and should not be in a position of teaching.
