can't understand a word she says, terrible
zuro=zero, just remember that. hard to understand. doesn't handle questions well
Worst teacher ever!!! Writes horrible notes!! Hard to Understand!! Don't take it
Hard to understand, didn't follow material presented in class.
Do not take her for any class. She is the worst Prof. ever!!!!!!!!
i would rather ****, than take that class
very good teacher if you understand what is going on. posts the test questions on internet for review for the test. if you can do those problems you will be fine. She will make time to meet with you. Class is a hard class but she will help you.
by far the worst instructor on campus. i asked for help once and she told me that if i didn't understand this section then i wouldn't understand any of the following sections. she then turned her back to me and never helped
Absolute worst teacher ever, thru college, high school and grade school. She's super tough to understand and it seems like she likes failing her students. She won't let you use any formulas on quizzes or tests, so you have to memorize it all. AVOID HER
worst teacher ever
This woman likes to fail people. She doesnt help when you ask for help, she confuses you until you just act like you know what she is talking about and leave. She likes to say, "If you dont understand this, you shouldn't be in this class." Do
very hard to understand.
This professor sucks -- plain and simple. Avoid her like the plague.
Very hard to understand & confuses you even MORE after you ask a question. She will make time to meet with you, & at least emphasizes the business aspect of the math class. I started arguments with her every day, but still passed with a "C" somehow, becausee she thought I had a good 'busines head'
This is a class that you must attend, and let me tell if if you don't go you will be lost. She is willing to help you as long as you make an attempt to get help. She is hard to understand but what Math teacher is easy to understand.
Out of 89 credits this is hands down the WORST professor I have ever had. She is hard to understand, does not teach proficiently and is unwilling to help students. I attended tutoring 3 times a week and still did not pass her course. I have had 4 math classes prior with A's. DO TH MATH, STAY AWAY!
Alright, there is a reason why she has a bad rating, SHE SUCKS! Plain and simple she does not really care if she fails you, all she cares about is that her son can do better math than YOU! Overall, if you have her drop the class. There is another prof. that teaches the same class for a reason! Good
You need to go to class! The exams are rough, and the reviews are really long, but she takes alot of the exam questions from the review. Take advantage of all of the EC and participate in calss. It is beneficial that she knows you are trying, then she at least won't fail you.
the only reason i passed this class was that i taught myself..she shouldnt teach anybody if she can barely speak english

HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! Do not take any class with her. She always tells you you are doing kindergarden math and she makes you feel dumb when you don't know what you are doing. I am here on scholarship and I will probably loose that scholarship b/c my grade in this class is so bad. I just hope I pass.
Do not take her class. She is a horrible teacher and she makes you feel stupid.
With out a doubt hardest class thus far in college. Loves to tell you how her son in high school is smarter than you are. Talks down to everyone and gets offended when you ask for another example in class. Get on her good side and she will pass you. Take your Decoder Ring if you want to understand what she has to say in class.
If you are about to talk one of her classes, get out of it right away. She is the worst professors on campus. She can hardly speak english. Don't take her class.
simply put: worst professor at CMU. Her tests are easy if you know the material. If you don't, good luck passing the class. Shes impossible to understand, and has no sympathy for those who dont know the material. Her class is nothing but an unorganized cluster of information. AVOID...seriously...
Needs to learn English. But other than that, class is much easier than expected.
This class is a load of crap. Tests arent really that bad. But she gives you take home quizes and tests that take about 6 hours a piece and you have to write a five page paper single spaced due after the final. This professor is a poor teacher and very difficult to understand.
Didn't teach a thing the whole semester. Took examples straight from the book and didn't show any examples. She would talk about her personal life for about 20-30 min and only lecture for 10-15 min. The one bonus was the amount of extra credit there was. WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE IN TAKING HER!!
One word. Horrible! I am a grad student and need this course for prereqs. I learned nothing. True this is a tough course but she would not return e-mails, and when she did she was so rude. She even told she does not have time to help me understand the course. Her syllabus was not accurate and had wrong dates. Avoid her! Take someone else.
I had her a few years ago, when I recieved my report card it showed I had a D in the class. It took her 3 weeks to respond to my calls and emails. In the end, she got my student id number mixed up with another student, I was really suppose to have a B in the class. She acted like it wasn't her fault!
all the questions on the tests and quizzes come strait out of the book but are still impossible to answer. she gives homework on the sections she doesnt go over in class then goes over them the next class. oh and good luck trying to understand her
SHE IS FREAKING CRAZY!!! She gave us problems that were IMPOSSIBLE!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTs!!!!!!!!

This lady is the worst teacher at cmu! Trying to understand her is hard enough, let alone the calc. If you read this and still take her you have no reason to complain. Good luck!
this class was pretty hard...if you actully try and study though you should be ok....all the test ?'s are right off the reviews..only prob is that the reviews are over 100? for each chpt..i got a 76, a 50, a 100 and an 80 and i got an A-...very hard class but if you try youll be ok
Tries to give you a good look into mathematics, unfortunately this doesn't matter because it is very hard to understand her over her accent. Not a good fit unless you are able to teach yourself from the book.
She is a nice person who is trying to make friends. She likes to brag a lot, and she cannot teach for nothing. All of my exams and quizzes were online, thankfully, so you can use your book, notes, etc. Sit in the front and show her that you have an interest in math, and she will like you.
i couldn't learn from her because of the accent and her teaching style sucked. good thing we used good books because that is what i learned from. if it wasn't for the huge curve at the end of the semester i would have failed. started off with 80 students and more than half dropped...
Cannot understand 30% of what she says because of her accent and cannot understand the other 70 because of the material and the way she teaches it. I went to her office for help a couple of times only to wind up listening to her talk on and on about her research.
She is nice and tries to teach but does stink at teaching and getting a lot of points across. The biggest downfall of this class is that you never know your grade... its not posted, nothing is returned, and when you ask for a grade she will say your grade is between a C- and a B+ somewhere - which isnt all that helpful.
To her up- she told us a story about when she was walking and grading papers simultaneously. She was in Dow while doing this- she stopped and laughed out loud at an answer that one of her students had written on his/her test. A few of her colleagues asked what she was laughing at. She showed the test and they all laughed at the student
To sum Dr. Rakesh up- she told us a story about when she was walking and grading papers simultaneously. She was in Dow while doing this- she stopped and laughed out loud at an answer that one of her students had written on his/her test. A few of her colleagues asked what she was laughing at. She showed the test and they all laughed at the student
Wow - the comment below was totally made by rakesh herself - its just like her emails.
I thought I was going to get a C-. I ended up with a B+. If you do her extra credit, you're almost guaranteed a good grade. She's really nice, enjoys her subject, but you do have to pay attention. I would take another one of her classes. If you have trouble with accents, caution...
I studied for this class like never before..she makes you study so much.. I thought the final exam was terrible..but at the end I got an A..I started liking maths though.
Avoid this prof at all costs! She lacks passable phonetics, syntax, and grammer in her speech and writting. Once I became accustomed to her speech, I realized that the majority of her lectures have nothing to do with the lesson at hand. She tries to provide a great deal of resources, but should understand that communication is essential to learning
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE HAD IN ALL MY YEARS OF SCHOOL!!!! Take another teacher at all costs! She is terrible, does not help students at all, and half the**** on her tests are wrong! This lady is very smart but she is the worst teacher in the world. She gives a ton of quizzes but doesn't seem to grade any of them. She is terrible!!
First of you can not understand a 70% of what she is saying, i spend more time trying to figure out what she is saying then i do learning. When she finally comes around to teaching a lesson she does half of the problem stops and starts talking about her life and her son. By the end of the class u will end up with a headache from her horrble screech
Hard to understand and is constantly off topic. Its pointless to go to her lectures because between trying to understand her speech and content of what she is saying is almost impossible.
She is one of the worst teachers at Central. She isnt helpful at all, is incomprehensible, and only cares about having many kids in her class at the beginning of the semester and seeing how many she can get to drop. what type of teacher has goals like that. shes very pessimistic and rude when you ask her for any help. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!!!!
She is probably the worst professor I have ever had. Math is a difficult subject already and she seems to make it worse. Extremely smart lady that just doesn't know how to teach. If you can teach yourself, you should be fine. The online homework she uses is awful. Even the student tutor thinks her lectures are pointless.
Not helpful. Did not upgrade grades at all until end of semester. Not clear and poor examples in lecture
Dr. Rakesh is one of the best professors at Central Michigan University. She is helpful both in class and outside the class.
She is very passionate about her classes and she is very helpful with homework outside of classes and references too. She helped me a lot as a freshmen and she still helps me now.
Well don't let this ratings fool you. She is not the easiest professor out there. But she is helpful especially with curving grades and extra credit oppurtunities. But you will not like her class if you are lazy or a bad student.
I found her easy because I love Math and I was ready to put in the work. Beside the extra credit for attendance and quizzes, helped a lot.
She is a very good professor. Definitely very smart but I gave her a 3 stars in easiness because I definitely had to work hard for me A. Which is not really a bad thing.
She has a tick accent which takes a while to get used to. But she is very helpful. And she gives lots of extra credits. Do all homework/quizzes and attend all classes and you will be fine.
She is one of the best professors have had.
She's obviously been rating herself. Notice how all of the reviews have come really close together. There's a lot of crappy reviews for a reason. The online homework is useless. I attended her class every day and sat in the front row, and when I went to the office for help, she asked, are you even in my class? Avoid at all costs
Never in my life have I had a professor that cares so much for her students. You dont even need to be smart rightaway, just need to put in the work.
Well, what can be said about Dr. Rakesh ... she can be crazy at times and overwhelming! At times its difficult to understand what she really wants you to do. That being said she is the most helpful teacher I have ever had [high school or college]. Her class can be difficult but ask for help and she will do her best to help you out.
Well Calc itself is not an easy subject to understand and Dr. Rakesh tries her best. She is a good and well meaning professor but she can be very difficult to understand and sometimes you don't know whats going on in her lectures. I worked my butt of outside of class and tried my best. If Dr. Rakesh knows your face and if you show her that you are
Right off the bat, I had issues with the professor as we were supposed to complete assignments before the official start date (online course). WebAssign was not scheduled to start until the night before, making it impossible to access these assignments or to start preparing. Before the class began, I was stressed out and frustrated.
her accent is understandable but when she gets excited she is hard to understand. she likes to joke but is very strict. if you dont understand how she is explaining it to you, then you have to teach yourself. she expects you to know a lot before entering her class. exams are her only points 100 pt each. not recommended; you will struggle
Her accent was intimidating at first, but after a while that became the least of my problems. Her only grades are tests, with there only being 2 plus the final. The first 5 weeks were a waste of my time; I had to show her how to do the slope formula. She also does not post grades, which makes things that much more frustrating. Bad idea.
All these reviews are false. im taking her right now and only show up for exams. 100% on all 3. takes same questions from study guide and uses them on test and doesnt even change the number. easiest class ever! anyone who says otherwise is not very smart.she will work with you if you need and is a super nice lady.
I have just recently finished taking Business Calc with Prof. Rakesh. Her class was one of the hardest I have ever taken but I also learned the most out of all my classes. Prof. Rakesh has a really harsh accent and it seems that she has trouble explaining things in english in a way you would understand. She also almost always makes algebra errors.
If you attend class and do the homework you should do just fine. If you e-mail her she will respond within 24hrs. Her study guides are the test. The study guides are the homework. I was worried at the beginning of class because of her accent. No problems. She is not offended if you ask her to repeat herself.
Prof Rakesh is the most unclear teacher I have ever had. She goes extremely fast when teaching new material, and when questions are asked she often does not answer them (ie. she ignores your questions). You will have a quiz once a week and it is never clear what the quiz will actually be covering. Unless you are good at teaching yourself STAY AWAY!
Honestly just awful. I had to teach myself everything and slept through classes. Still did better than a lot of kids that paid attention cus im just hardcore like that.
Extremely hard. There is a quiz every tuesday and the tests are extremely hard. She takes attendance every day and makes everyone sit as close to the front as possible. Has a hard to understand indian accent. GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS. & check for online homework everyday because she adds a lot of extra credit on there.
Cant understand her. Quizzes every week. Disrespectful to students. Taught myself everything for the class in the math center and if you for some reason take this class with her, youre going to be teaching yourself everything too.
Teacher is very hard to understand at times but moving to the front helps a lot. Try to sit next to someone smart to converse if you don't understand her. Do all of the online Homeworks/Quizes/Exams because its similar/exactly the same for tests. Go to office hours for extra help. She has review too before class. Makes you earn your grade
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. If you have a choice, do NOT take this class with Rakesh. She makes things even more confusing and she's pretty hard on you. The only thing that's nice about having her is that she grades on a big curve.
She was very tough to understand, ended up teaching the entire semesters work to myself. Do NOT take this course with this professor.
The class was very difficult. She doesn't talk loud and has an accent. Her writing is not very good and it will take you a while to figure out. X's look like k's or r's,"of" looks like a q. If you are very good at math then you will probably be fine, if not, you will struggle. Attend all classes and use math center because she doesn't explain well.
Prof. Rakesh is super hard to understand, and is apt to get off topic during lecture. However, during my first fall semester in school, I was going through a rough patch and Prof. Rakesh called me to her office one day after class and offered her condolences and even invited me to meet her for tea.
This professor is possibly the worst teacher here at central Michigan. She is hard to understand while teaching, then while trying to understand her she gets off topic and talks about nothing to do with the class. Also always check over your tests with the person next to you because she often grades very wrong, I found that out the hard way. She is a nice person but bad teacher. If you care about your gpa and want to do good, do not by any means take this class with her. You will regret it I promise you.
so easy.... lol idk why people hate her class the 1st exam was literally the review guide... talk about not trying
Cannot understand the majority of what she says. Does not teach much, just writes the answers "usually". Unless you already know calc I would strongly suggest finding a different prof.
I took her class this semester and it was the first class I struggled with. She goes off topic a lot of time, rushes through examples, has an accent, and doesn't teach concepts very well. I ended withdrawing because a C or better wasn't possible after how behind I was. I wasn't able to teach myself so that's what ultimately made me withdraw.
First day of class she told us that people rarely pass this class. Easily the worst teacher I have had during my time at Central. I highly recommend not taking this professor in any classes. She is a very nice person but does not email you back and she is the worst grader. She will tell you what the answer is and then marks it wrong. DO NOT TAKE
Literally worst professor ever. Her final exam was nothing like the exam review guide. I even asked her what to study, whether it was the past 2 exams or the review for the final and she said the review guide. You have to teach yourself the material online. Her examples in class suck. No structure to the course. She gets off topic a lot. Don't take!
She's a nice lady, however, she is hard to understand as she has a heavy accent. She often gets off topic a lot in the middle of solving a problem. However, her quizzes and tests were almost the exact same as the practice ones she posts online, so you pretty much have to teach yourself. She curves heavily, however, I wouldn't recommend taking her
Such a wonderful lady but easily distracted during lecture. Lecture doesn't help much-do the homework and reviews online and watch the videos to teach yourself, its easier that way. The online reviews are the same as the exams. She does curve the exams and offers many extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of those. Ask her about stocks.
Don't. Just don't. Trust me. She is the worst professor I've ever had. I sat in the front since it is really hard to understand her. She gets off topic very easily and frequently. Halfway through every class, more than half the class would have left. Eventually no one came. She is also horrible at explaining things. REQUIRED: TEACH YOURSELF
So incredibly frustrating taking MATH 133 with her. Does not do much teaching and wastes half the time talking about random things that are not relevant to the topic at hand. Would not recommend. Nice lady, though.
wastes half of every class talking about complete nonsense that has nothing to do with class. Impossible to follow along with her as she works. class avg from first exam exam was around 50% and her answer to this was to give us a 1 question quizz everyday until the entire class passed it.
The worse person ever, Cant understand and is super mean. Do Not Take just do not do it
Awful professor. She is already hard to understand but she gets off topic easily and makes no sense how she teaches. She will usually write the problem then the answer and gets confused easily when you ask for help/ask what she did. She teaches as if you already know calculus. If you want to pass and actually learn DO NOT take her
I'm gonna keep it real. No matter who you take for 217, it's not a good time. But take Leela, here's why. You're not gonna understand her lectures, it's fine. She's got a heavy accent and her tendency to drift off is going to frustrate you. Just do the homework. Do it. The exams and quizzes are almost identical to the HW. The HW has how-to videos.
Its super hard to understand her and she acts like we should understand everything she is teaching us. She also gets off topic a lot. With in the 1 hour and 50 minutes I have her she only teaches for 40 minutes of it. I would never take another class with her. But on the upside she is nice.
Lots of quizzes and a few exams. She doesn't use blackboard so I was unsure of my grade the entire semester. Does give partial credit on exams/quizzes, which is probably the only reason I passed this class. Lectures are all over the place and she always gets super off topic. If you do bad on the exams, she allows you to redo it for partial credit
Easily the WORST Professor at cmu.
If you are looking for a professor that chooses favorites in class then you have the right teacher. She never puts in grades and if you are asking me I'd like to learn math rather than sit there and listen to her ranting about her life.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH PROFESSOR RAKESH, she horrible at teaching, all she does is talk about her kids, if you are good at teaching yourself you would be fine because the tests and quizzes are just like the reviews and homework, I only went to class when we had exams or quizzes but had to put on a lot of time outside the class to teach myself
I loved Prof. Rakesh. She can get off topic but I didn't mind it as it gave me a break during class and she always had a point because she was trying to relate the math to real life situations. She is one of the most caring professors and wants you to do well. If you are not a math person you will struggle but if you ask her for help she will.
Professor Rakesh is a great professor. She is willing to help at anytime and wants you to succeed. Tons of quizzes but most were online or in class; she takes the best ten. Most of the in-class quizzes we did together; she would do an example and then we would do a similar problem. Also gives partial credit as long as you attempt.
Leela is kind & cares SO much about her students. However, her lectures were all over the place and made it hard to learn. You WILL teach yourself most of this class. She gives lots of opportunities for extra "points" so take advantage and speak up in class. 2 exams & 1 final (study from the online review.) She curves a lot based off class average
Ms. Rakesh would not post grades. I asked her multiple times through email for access to my grades to no avail. She gets distracted very easily during lectures and her stories go on forever. She is a nice lady and does care about you but you couldn't pay me to take one of her classes again.
Literally the worst professor ever. Doesn't hardly speak a lick of English. Don't take her unless you plan on spending at least 12 hours a week teaching yourself what you are paying her to teach you.
Dr. Rakesh is a very nice woman and knows a lot but she is very bad at conveying it. She spends half of the lecture time talking about the most random things that do not relate to Calculus. She also is a very weird grader in the fact there is no consistency across quizzes and tests. Also, you wont know your grade until the end of the semester.
LISTEN TO ME. if you are enrolled in this class SWITCH OUT WHILE YOU CAN. I took calculus 1 and passed with amazing grades in highschool. She will make everything as hard as possible for you. If you ask questions during class she will take more time than it would take answering the question explaining how she cant answer your question. PLEASE RUN.
Terrible teacher. Had her online due to Covid. She has a very hard accent was hard to understand and her writing was hard to read and it seemed like she wrote her emails while half asleep. She doesn't let you ask any questions about homework or assessments in class ,you have to schedule in her work hours. She can be funny but not a good teacher.
I literally hated this class. Don't take her unless you want to spend all your time doing calculus outside of class. She's good and helpful during office hours but during lecture, you might as well just be teaching yourself. I'm pretty sure I learned more from Khan Academy then her.
She gets very lost in lecture and has a hard time clearly explaining the material. For most of the class period, the group chat is just full of confused people who have no idea what's going. We have to go to the Si sessions so a sophomore can help us understand the material. When most of the class failed a quiz, she wouldn't even go over it.
Honest to god it's been a month in this class and she is easily one of the worst professors I've had so far. Nothing has been explained and I'm stuck there so confused out of my mind. I literally have to figure everything out myself or with a tutor because of the lack of explanation. I am struggling so hard and if you get Rakesh then good luck man.
Horrible professor who gets side-tracked super easily, doesnt involve students and cant explain anything. DONT TAKE, this was supposed to be the easiest math class, and Im stuck teaching myself....
Leela Rakesh is hands down the worst professor I have ever experienced, she reads off the powerpoint and doesn't teach. Leela shouldn't still have a job, she messes up all the time, is very unprofessional, makes mistakes all the time, and so on. Listening to her talk is like listening to a robot reading something helllooo? are you there? DONT TAKE
Worst professor on campus! Don't take her!
all I got to say is I don't know how she received a job from CMU, like its honestly puzzling, you literally teach yourself. Like even if you could understand her it wouldnt matter because she doesnt even know what shes doing! Central Michigan University has some of the worst math teachers ever, My 15 year old sister could teach this class better
Very terrible professor. Felt like I was staring at a blank screen most of this semester. Went out of lectures learning nothing and had to basically teach myself. The sad part is is that the material isn't even that hard, it's just that Professor Rakesh is so poor at her job that I felt confused doing a lot of the quizzes and homework. Don't take
The best prof in the math department at CMU. Calc 1 is a breeze with her if you are willing to show you actually care about the subject. Would recommend going to office hours as it may help your grade out.
I would not advise anyone to take a class with this prof. It was extremely difficult because all of her lectures are just powerpoint with like 75-100 slides and the class periods consist of her just reading the powerpoint, you're basically forced to teach yourself. She is however, available outside of class for any of your needs and offers help.
She is a nice person but not a good professor. I had to teach myself and go to the math assistance center because she was all over the place during notes. She also just reads over 100 slides per class and there is no time to write anything down. DO NOT TAKE THIS WITH HER. I can't stress that enough. Also exams are taken with camera on over webex.
Prof. Rakesh does not teach. She spends 2/3 of the class going off on random tangents that has nothing to do with the material. I didn't learn or understand anything. She is so unclear and unprofessional. I had to teach the math to myself the whole semester.
Failed this class the first time, tried to retake but had to withdraw - knew I was wasting my time and going to fail again after a few weeks of taking this class. LONG quizzes with very little time and VERY hard lengthy questions. Tried getting a tutor, still didn't help. DO NOT recommend.
Just really bad at teaching
Horrible teacher, doesn't make sense half the time and goes off on random tangents that have nothing to do with the material. Exams are messily put together. Do not take with her.
She does not teach the material, you have to teach yourself. Avoid taking anything with this professor! I wish I would have listened to the other comments before I enrolled for this class.
Good professor willing to do whatever she can to help students succeed. Always willing to take time outside of class to explain concepts you are struggling with. One downside is not really ever knowing for sure what your grade is, more just a range.
I was scheduled for this class, it was a classroom sized lecture hall. The teacher was not speaking anywhere near loud enough. I think she had a rule against phones? But I couldn't hear her well enough to tell. She had an IT tech dude in there for around 20 minutes because she didn't know how to unlock blackboard. I dropped the class and left.
