Her exam is pretty fair but sometimes you will be confused about what will come out from the exam. The only thing I wan to complain is the TA Vincent. The TA is the tough grader, especially in the homework. He just took out your point without convincible reason. Maybe he doesn't like your method....
She is the best professor I have ever had. If she teaches your class, definitely choose her, Very kind and caring, material is very clear. She writes everything on the board very clearly. Her exams and homework is fair (not easy not hard). I also recommend going to class as much as you can.
Sweet and kind prof! Lectures are very clear and straightforward, and she's very approachable during office hours. 2 midterms and a final. To my knowledge, the average of the first 1st midterm was very high; the 2nd very low. Go to office hours, read the textbook, take good notes (especially on definitions), and do the hw w/o looking at the answers
Honestly, she is an amazing professor. She teaches through examples, which was a much more effective approach (for me). She listens to the topics that students struggle with and prepare questions for the entire class to do together. Her tests reflect on the topics covered in class, and grading is fair.
She is very clear about everything. Homework amount is fair but she gave very challenging questions sometimes.
Great professor and person. Her lectures are example based so get ready to attend and write notes. Very friendly and caring towards her students. I hated Calculus in high school but now I love it.
Extremely caring and amazing professor. She wants all her students to succeed, and gives many examples during lecture to make concepts easy to understand. Would definitely recommend for anyone, especially if math isnt your best subject.
Even better than my 4.8 prof who teach me 20c :D
Great professor, loved having her for 20B. If you are looking for a professor who knows how to explain example problems and actually take the time to ensure students know the material, take Professor Anzaldo. By far the best math professor I've had at UCSD so far, although I am only a first year.
She's awesome! She actually takes time to explain concepts you may have forgotten from a prior math class. Was very to the point in lectures and taught you everything you needed to know. She was also incredibly sweet and very nice. Unfortunately, I couldn't utilize her office hours since I had work at that time, but I still enjoyed her course.
Really cares about her class, making sure to properly answer and address every question that students have. She really makes sure to teach every concept from the ground up, which is good for students who might be a bit rusty from previous classes. Also has a sense of humor, which is refreshing.
Very soft spoken (to the point where it was hard to hear her) but she was very nice. She didn't post her notes anywhere or podcast so if you miss lecture you have to ask other students to give you the notes. Overall, her tests were very easy and the lecture before every exam she spends reviewing the practice exam, which is really helpful.
- speaks quietly so a con when students don't know how to respect a professor - gives out practice tests before each midterm & final that are pretty helpful for the actual exam - hw due every week via gradescope (a lot easier than turning hw in person and buying an access code) - super nice and sweet! gave detailed examples and notes
She is very nice, but her class is extremely difficult. For Math 109 during summer session 1, many students are having trouble. I have a 4.0 and this might be my first B. If you like challenging problems and exams, take her.
Anzaldo is phenomenally sweet and very organized in lecture. She's available and helpful in office hours. This class was a fast paced summer class, more suited to confirming that students have the math chops (109 is a upper-division gatekeeper) than helping strengthen weak students. Still, not many people used office hours - their loss.
One of the best math instructors at UCSD. I took her for two classes and she made me love both of them, even though they were both considered hard classes! Her lectures are super clear and for the rare times they are not, she explains things very nicely in office hours. Her tests are also super fair. Highly recommend.
anzaldo is a good lecturer and accessible outside of class. for math 18 the textbook itself is an amazing resource, and she follows it very clearly and posts her notes online. the hw is through pearson mathlab + a matlab component. there was also a matlab quiz. the two midterms and final were reasonable.
Professor Anzaldo managed to make a super difficult class manageable. She held lots of office hours and was available to answer students questions outside of class, as well as giving lots of good study materials for exams. I feel like this class would have been much harder had I not chosen her as my professor. Overall, would definitely recommend.
She is an amazing professor who really knows what she is talking about. Her lectures are very clear and straightforward, and tests are always on what was discussed in class with no tricks.
First off, she's a great professor and really does care about her students. Even though I'm not good at math she made me enjoy the subject. I didn't do too well on both midterms but did decent on the final and ended up with a B-. I highly recommend taking the class with her especially if you think math is hard, she makes it seem easier.
She curved my 86% up to an A- so thanks to her for that!! She's got really clear exams, gives cheat sheets, and her review sessions are suuuper helpful and very indicative of how the exam will be.
I took it in 2019 Fall. Professor Anzaldo is generally amazing. She explained the concepts very well and the examples were helpful. Her lectures' pace was good for me. She answered almost any questions from students. If you have moderate foundation in math and work hard to understand every example in lecture and homework, it is easy to get an A.
She is a very kind and caring professor. She does speak very fast and can be a bit quiet sometimes but she posts all of her notes online in clear hand writing so you can access them earlier. Exams were kinda hard but definitely within the scope of the class. The homework, however, was a big pain (more or less Pearson's fault).
I had Professor Anzaldo spring 2020 when everything was remote, but despite that, her lectures were very straightforward and clear. Assignments are worth 50% and graded somewhat difficulty, so points can be lost there. They take a while to complete, so give yourself at least a day and a half in advance to finish and perfect assignments.
Anzaldo is respectable but her class structure didn't work for me. She'd grade 4 of 40 problems weekly w/ no points given for completion. Small mistakes meant I received a 75% almost every time. Frustrating b/c 6hrs of my work went unevaluated every week & 50% of the grade was HW. Monotone, pre-recorded lectures w/ no face cam felt lacking effort.
Example lecture problems are too easy compared to HW so it doesn't help much and can be hard. She drops the lowest test grade. Simple tests with avg difficulty (easier than green from what i've heard). Uses webassign so have to buy an access code. Overall v nice but i'm learning more from khan academy and organic chem tutor on youtube tbh
Lectures were prerecorded and posted early so it was easy to start studying early. She explains things through examples and breaks down concepts really well. She was also pretty active on piazza so pretty much every question got answered or acknowledged. We had weekly hw and opt txtbk stuff but it wasn't too much to handle.
She was amazing and super nice. Maybe it was because of covid/asynchronous times but she was lenient whenever I emailed her about late hw/quizzes (lol oops). Her lectures basically covered everything needed on the hw/quizzes; very straightforward and understandable. She will always respond and I would take her for every math class if I could tbh.
This class was completely remote this quarter, it was also asynchronous. She would have us watch youtube videos of her lectures that were often boring and very example heavy. All homework were webassign, all quizzes were self-proctored. My only professor this quarter who still chose to give a final despite a pandemic.
I took her class remotely like that dude below me, but I will say she is pretty good. The best things are her quizzes. Super easy! She will give you an hour for only three calculation questions. Although her lectures are kinda boring but she basically covered all the types of questions we might face. So, I do recommend this professor!
It is a very well structured class, homework assignment is due every Thursday. There is a quiz every other week, no tests. The final was challenging but representative of the content. Lectures do help, doing the homework gives you great practice. I would definitely take this professor again.
Her lectures were okay. I had a very difficult time, but I think that was mostly just because I am not great with calculus. I do not know if it was just my class, but grading took forever. I was constantly unaware of how I was doing because of that.
I took her class during the pandemic, everything is remote. She cares about the students. I was unable to upload my quiz on time because I have a technical problem. She is patient and replied to every email I sent on that day. (It's like 10+ emails). Her lectures are always clear. Just do all your homework you will get a good grade on the quizz.
Honestly don't even know what the professor looks like because it was ALL prerecorded and online. Study groups were a must. The material was not engaging (but then again it is precalc). The course is very fast paced (I have a feeling it should be taken in a semester not quarter system). Self starters should do well, but khan academy use is a must.
Dr. Anzaldo is a brilliant woman and a great teacher. She genuinely cares about her students, but with online learning, the class has taken a dive. It took 3-4 weeks to get most quizzes back with how stretched thin the math department is at UCSD right now. Other than that, smooth class and fair grading.
Lectures are very helpful and comprehensive. If you watch the lectures and do not read the textbook you can do well. Fair quizzes and homework. Definitely recommend her for math
Her reply to email takes a week. Lecture is not clear enough. Only read what she wrote in the notes and barely explain. Tests have few questions, did one wrong could mean half of the points off, and she did not discussed in class similar test questions.
Lectures are clear and easy to understand. Professor gives good explanations and examples. Homework and quizzes are easy as long as you keep up with the lectures.
I was in the hospital for a week after an emergency surgery and when I asked to make up one of the quizzes she said no. Not very compassionate, do not recommend her.
I had her for 2 quarters. Her lectures are super informative and thorough, you wont need the text book if you take good lecture notes. The questions on the quizzes and exams are fair and resemble what is discussed in lectures and homework. She really cares about her students' learning and mental health and is an overall really good prof.
Prof the goat. Her lectures cover the topics well, has clear examples, good pacing, and are explained thoroughly. If you take notes on the lectures then you'll understand how to do the homework and pass the class. Before quizzes go over the theorems to refresh yourself on the topic then you'll be fine.
Professor Anzaldo is a great lecturer and great person. She is very caring and responds to emails and discord chats fairly quickly. She has been the best math professor Ive had at UCSD. Overall, would highly recommend taking her class!
Prof. Anzaldo is one of the best professors Ive had at UCSD. Shes super accessible and active on the school discord, and she creates very fair quizzes and tests. She is also open to feedback and creates super helpful lectures! If you have to take MATH18, I cannot recommend her enough
60% Quizzes/15% Final sounds nerve-wracking until you actually take her exams. Usually the problems look like problems straight out of the homework so there don't expect many surprises on them. She also drops the lowest quiz. Super accessible through Discord/Email. Lectures were incredible, never took notes, did all the homework fine, and I passed
Prof. Anzaldo is my favorite math professor at UCSD! I had her for Math 18 and 20B and she was amazing for both. The lectures had examples and were easy to understand after doing the homework by following the lecture examples. Her biweekly quizzes are really fair and she drops 1-2 quizzes. I really recommend her so take her if you can :)
Professor Anzaldo is the best math professor at UC San Diego. Period. Her lectures are amazingly clear and she puts a lot of care into ensuring students understand the material. I SUCKED at math before taking 20A under her guidance, now I finally feel like I just... get it! She is THE epitome of fantastic teaching at UC San Diego.
Professor Anzaldo is not an accessible outside-of-class professor. The few times I have emailed her I did not get a response back. I had to self-teach myself because lectures were not useful. Unless you are looking for a non-mandatory attendance class and can self-teach yourself the content, do not take this class.
I found the class very easy given that I had learned the content during Summer Bridge. HW due every week and quizzes every other week. No midterm, just the final. She gives you notes every lecture to look back on. She is nice about going back and explaining the math. Hold office hours and is open to helping students out. She is super nice!
Really sweet professor, you have 5 quizzes throughout the quarter, theyre based off the written hw, if you don't understand the written hw go to office hours she'll help you, online hw have helpful videos. 20 late passes to use throughout the quarter and if we didnt get through something in the lecture she would extend deadlines, very sweet
Overall the class itself is pretty manageable, but the Professor tends to be confused herself and has a lot of mistakes when lecturing, causing students to be confused.
Professor Anzaldo was literally the sweetest professor ever. She made sure to cover all the material we needed in order to succeed on homework/tests/the final. She really makes sure we understand topics and won't assign homework unless we completely go through each topic. 100/10 recommend.
I failed precalc at my CC and I was so nervous retaking it at UCSD, but Professor Anzaldo is freakin amazing! I got an A in the class, with 100% on the final. Her lectures enable me to understand math so I feel confident. Her practice exam for the final was truly helpful and prepared me well for the final. Taking her again for Calc I and II!!!!!!!!
quizzes are not like material learned. avoid her at all costs. may be nice, but she’s not that great in teaching and makes too many mistakes. Doesn’t even know what’s on the syllabus.
Professor Anzaldo is amazing! She has a special talent of taking tough concepts and making them easily digestable. She is quick to respond to questions and never judges students. She makes math not painful and actually fun, I super duper recommend her. Thanks so so much professor Anzaldo! :)
Professor Anzaldo is one of the best in the Math Department. Her lectures are very clear, and she is direct and to the point. Lectures are also very helpful for note taking. Highly recommended.
She's AMAZING!! She's open to answering any/all questions. She'll NEVER make you feel stupid for asking a question!! She'll gladly go back and explain previous problems or steps to solve a problem. She is super flexible with due dates and grading. Cannot recommend her enough! Lowest HW/ Quiz grades get dropped. Weekly Hw & Quizzes every other week.
Get ready to teach yourself! She didn't teach the first half of the quarter but instead sent us an unlisted playlist on youtube that had 1.5k+ views (reused videos). MATLAB (10% of your grade) was never taught and when asked questions the professor pushed HER RESPONSIBILITY of teaching the students onto underpaid tutors. What did she get paid for?
IMO an overhyped professor. However, she is a good lecturer. She really cares about a lot of her students and takes time to explain complicated topics to those who are confused. Tests were fair.
Discussion sections are mandatory. Algebra-based, so most content will not pertain to any Calculus. Listened to mostly online lectures. Average professor.
Prof. Anzaldo was amazing, had patience and was caring for all of her students. She was majorly accessible during office hours and would even create new office hours to make up for any that she would miss. I took this class during a summer session and although fast paced, her quizzes were reasonable and her final was not too difficult.
Pr. Leesa is adorable. She's very nice and willing to answer all questions in lecture and outside of class. MATH18 is a hard course to understand, but Pr. Leesa makes it tolerable. She is easy to understand and makes note taking easy. The tests are pretty hard and worth a lot of your grade, but they're not impossible. Take her if you can.
The lectures were good, and the professor made the content very easy to comprehend. Linear algebra itself is pretty hard, but I think the professor made it much easier than it normally is.
I miss Prof. Anzaldo! She was the best math teacher I ever had! Her lectures were clear and prepared you for the homework. She went out of her way to help students for the exams by making practice questions and having a review day in class, along with posting past exams. The amount of homework is just the same for any math class at UCSD.
Take classes with this professor at all costs if you can. She goes to great lengths to make sure you will succeed. She has guided notes posted before every lecture so you can follow along, she offers extra credit, a sheet of paper for midterms AND final. Theres two midterms and the best score is taken. Definitely would recommend this professor.
Class was extremely easy. Lectures were recorded and attendance wasn't mandatory. Decent preparation for 10 series, however some topics were skipped. Professor was amazing and very lenient with homework. Infinite tries on homework to get 100% so really easy. Tests were quick and never took whole time. Practice exams provided exact test material.
Prof Leesa was cool, her lecture were easy to understand and follow, the test were pretty reasonable as well as the homework, if you have any question I recommend to go to her office hours, its way easier to understand in person than in piazza. She's cool overall.
Professor Anzaldo was amazing. I thought the course 20B would be hard as previous friends took the course said. But her explanations in lectures are very good at explaining the concepts that trips ppl up. I would definitely recommend taking her classes, really nice prof!
such a great lecturer and made calc a lot easier to understand than most professors. really took the time to make sure everyone understood concepts. W class tbh
DONT taker her if I could give her 0 stars I would.
The Professor is very confusing when teaching, its all over the place. The practice exams show you how the test are going to get graded but then you take the test and do basically the same process and still manage to get points taken off so its very confusing.
The teacher is really nice but kind of soft spoken so I recommend sitting closer to the front. Lecture does not have mandatory attendance but discussion does (can miss 2). My discussion was online and I didn't attend class so my grade is a bit lower since math 18 is a different type of math than calc.
The professor is very nice and caring! Linear algebra is just a difficult subject in general, but Professor Anzaldo did an excellent job at answering students' questions and lecturing at a reasonable pace. She made linear algebra much easier to understand, so I had an overall good experience with her.
Clear lectures. Weekly HW assignments reflect what was taught in lecture. Gives LOTS of resources to help your studying (practice exams w/ solns, discussion section worksheets, past lecture videos, etc.). Approachable and replies to piazza/email questions . Accommodating/flexible in terms of having to move due dates if HWs stack.
She is an amazing professor ! Linear algebra is a hard subject but she made it super easy and her notes are super organized and easy to understand ! Tests represents what the practice test look like ! The only thing is that there are just lot of homework but I love them, take her if you can !
Tests are representative of class material; covers Linear Algebra pretty well. Goes over all theories in detail and is on-track in her teachings. Provides a lot of additional resources for us to practice, and her exams are of fair difficulty. Her midterms also help you study for the topics which are coming up. Excellent class, would recommend.
Very structured and clear class. The lecture has handouts, goes over all topics covered on the exams. The exam is also structured and clear, grading criteria are very structured. You learn what you need to learn. Some lectures also just go over a few proofs, interesting yet good enough. TAs are also very inspirational. Overall great class!
Her lectures were easy to follow along with and she also provided a note taking guide with plenty of examples and important terms for each lesson! She also provided old exams as resources which were helpful since our exams were similar to those. Concepts in the class build on each other so make sure to take the time to understand everything!
Professor is very caring about the content. There's a lot of content in the course (we were learning new material four days before the final) but she tries to get through it all quickly for the benefit of the students. Podcasts lectures and leaves lecture notes in Canvas. Past exams and practice problems are available as well.
This professor was amazing. She made everything very clear and showed all the steps when completing problems explaining them along the way, and even went over some concepts that most professors assume you just remember from prior classes. The quizzes in discussion were very manageable and she provides prior quizzes to practice with!
Prof. Anzaldo made the challenging concepts of this course so much easier to understand during lecture. She was always accessible during office hours to answer any questions which helped. She made templates for lectures and I recommend printing them out as it's easier to follow along. She also gave lots of practice for exams. 100% recommend
I loved Professor Anzaldo, she was an amazing professor. Concepts that I couldn't understand last quarter when I took Math 3C with another professor, she made seem easy. She takes her time during lecture to make sure everyone understands what we are covering. She slayed.
Anzaldo is super sweet and always answers questions, but I found her lectures hard to focus on because she's pretty softspoken. Otherwise, I think her explanations during lecture were pretty helpful but the class content itself is difficult, especially as the second half rolls around.
10/10 professor. Exams are very similar to practice tests. Final is "cumulative" but more than 3/4 is represented of post midterm 2. HW is guaranteed 100%, infinite tries. 6/9 discussions are mandatory for full credit. Study discussions. Watch 3Blue1Brown linear algebra. PLEASE read the textbook and do the problems. Watch out for polynomials!
Excellent teacher! The review material really helped on the exam. The professor also explain concepts very clearly
Honestly great professor. She is excellent at explaining concepts and everything you need to know for tests and exams is listed in her notes. I found her second midterm quite difficult however final was quite easy and very reflective of learned material. HW is a bit time-consuming but you have infinite attempts.
Professor Anzaldo is a good teacher. She explains abstract concepts in intuitive ways, and she is always very nice.
I did not take this prof., but I took this class with the other prof. Ganesan. I watched one podcast of hers and I instantly loved it, I continued to watch her for the rest of the quarter. Her way of teaching is so clear, efficient, and the reason I did well. She wrote the exam too so whatever she lectures, it's more likely to be on it. Love her!!
Very bad prof who made a remedial math course unbearable. Having 50% student fail her class should speak volume about her quality as an educator
professor is really nice, her lectures are great she pauses and lets us have time to work through the math, she answers questions being asked, explains concepts good. homework is average not too much; exams aren't too bad as long as you study the problem bank you should be fine. discussions are mandatory, can miss 3. attendance is mandatory
Good Prof, would take again
Prof Anzaldo is incredibly kind. The lecture content is clear and the examples are plentiful. If you do the practice tests, you will be prepared for the exams. Just stay on top of the content and review early and the class should be a breeze.
Professor Anzaldo is one of the kindest professors I've had. She was incredibly patient and never rushed through material, always matching the class's pace. Even though we didn't get to all the topics, she was fair and didn't test us on anything we hadn't covered thoroughly. Discussion attendance is mandatory, but you can miss up to three.
As someone who only watched lecture once, I learned a lot from the HW, recommended problems, and textbook readings. The assigned HW especially reinforced my understanding, and towards the end of the course everything came around full circle. Prof. doesn't respond to emails (with ~600 students this isn't surprising), although she does seem caring.
Professor Anzaldo is sweet and clever. Her lectures helped me understand the material and guided me when doing the homework. There are 2 midterms (lowest gets dropped), a final, discussions, MATLAB homework, and MyLab homework. The exam times are awful, but the professor is awesome!
the professor is really sweet, but she doesnt go through the topics clearly, she does the problems & doesn't explain how things are being done. Grade really depends on TA, they grade the assignments & exams. My TA was probably the worst TA i have ever been assigned, she did NOT know to explain anything and she made things way too complicated.
I loved her so much! I never left a lecture feeling confused about a topic and the homework she assigns is reasonable and also helpful for the content. Her preparation for tests is so good she really helps you be prepared!!! Overall I really enjoyed this math class and hope to take more math classes taught by her.
She's a very nice and respectable professor with lectures that are SEMI-mandatory (You can miss 6-7) and same with discussions (You can also miss 2-3) and still receive full credit for attendance. Grading wise, very easy on everything BUT midterms and finals as they weigh about 80% of your grade. Stay caught up and this class will be light :P
Great lecturer and she makes the material seem very straightforward. Exams are pretty easy too I just hated the true/false portion
she provides super detailed filled in notes and all mock tests so its pretty easy to learn
Very understanding professor and easy to talk to. Exam practice questions align well with actual exam. Only thing is discussions were not helpful (some times made more confusing), the content we worked on there didn't seem to align with pacing of lectures at times. Seems there needs to be more communication between TA and professor??
