Lei is very kind, she learned the names of many of the students that attended the lectures, and she was very willing to help all students after lectures and had good office hours.
Nice prof very active class
Do not take
Good Prof. Goes through material fairly quickly but takes time on example questions. She also records all her lectures so you can rewatch as many times as you need. We ran out of time before the second midterm and were forced to learn a large chunk of the periodic table by ourselves. Other than that she is there if you have questions.
During the 50-minute lecture period, she was able to explain the important concepts pretty well. Even though we had to rush our lectures, she would stay after class to answer questions and her office hours were also helpful. She's good at engaging her students by demonstrating concepts in class and making funny analogies.
[AUCHE110] She's really nice and makes the class fun. Make sure to do the problem sets and online quizzes because all the in-class quizzes, tests, and the final is based off of that. Practice, practice, practice!
Great prof, had recorded and online lectures for every class. Went above and beyond to provide extra support and review sessions for students. Great Proffesor
She truly cared about your success and put in extra effort for teaching demonstrations, outside of class mini-lectures, and review. Her excitement for Chemistry made the content engaging and fun!
Dr. Pei was a wonderful CHEM 103 prof! (took it Fall 2024 and forgot to review) Super kind, good lectures and supports her students with lots of resources.
I took Chem 103 with this professor. While Chemistry is a lovely and easy-to-follow course, the course felt harder than necessary due to limited access to references and resources. The class focused mainly on exam-based notes, which may suit grade-obsessed students. I won't take any course from this professor.
The course appears designed for students who are extremely grade-driven, which did not match my learning preferences. I would not choose to take another course with her.
Dr. Pei was great during CHEM103, her course materials and practice problem sets were always similar to the exam questions we were given. I also enjoyed her analogies and in-class presentations during class as it made learning concepts much easier and much more engaging!
I don't recommend others. I regretted!!!
Thank you, Professor, for making me hate Chemistry. (My best course of high school)
Strongly No
Prof Lei is kind and caring in person. Attendance isn't mandatory, but most of the exam questions are given and revealed through in-class notes. Since those annotated notes aren't posted on Canvas, it becomes an indirect way of forcing attendance, basically, “come to class and you'll know what's on the exam.” Anyway, not really my preference.
It's not a good fit for me.
👎👎👎
No need to study and attend class. All is waste of time and energy. Just get previous years exam papers and practice it. At least you have A-
She is not fair though. She won't be my favourite.
You need to watch hours worth of lecture content to get all the notes lol. better off asking someone who went to the lecture. her handwriting is ass too. FIRST YEARS PLEASE MEMORIZE THE P BLOCK THINGS FULLY BECAUSE THE FINAL IS GOING TO HAVE LIKE 2 PAGES OF THAT!
Choose her only if you have a friend, senior, or TA with saved past exams. It's unclear why she teaches such a heavy-credit course. Very disorganized notes across Canvas and Stemple, and a $50 paid access demand unnecessary energy. Without possing past exams, all your academic energy will be exploited. Avoid her if you lack past exams.
Fully agreed with the person said, she "exploited our academic energy". I really exploited my energy.
I don't believe Chemistry was her major.
Do not take.
Quality/Quantity < 0. Big academic title, with low quality.
Lei is such a nice professor and is accessible during office hours. She replies to emails promptly. However, her notes are poor and hard to follow, and she didn't post previous years' practice exams. Overall, she won't be on my list.
It wasn't such a good experience.
Sorry, you were not good for me Prof.
She was nice, but all her notes made me bookish haha. She is very nice person though!
lots of material you have to learn by yourself outside of lectures, tried to be engaging for 8 ams but was still very boring
I really enjoyed Dr Pei's class. She explains things very well and clearly, and gives good analogies to help you remember. She did have us learn some things on our own though which I wasn't a fan of. Oh and the final took years off my life. Love her though, she was so funny at times. I recommend!!
Explained concepts clearly in class, and her analogies were really helpful. Notes were a little unclear at times but mostly fine. She isn't allowed to give out past exams because the department doesn't allow her to. Her lectures/the class aren't as bad as other people are saying as long as you actually study effectively
Excellent personality, kind, accessible and nice,,,,, but won't chose to become my Profs.
She was okay!
Lectures are fairly engaging and important, pretty much the only ones i didnt skip lmao Dont pay for stemble just use school computers easiest saved 50 bucks of my life only complaint is that self study was required for a lesson, but thats tolerable.
I loved her. It was clear that she was passionate and wanted to see success as she recorded every lecture (well prepared btw), gave lots of problem sets and exam prep material, put effort into knowing names, sent reminders, had helpful demos and analogies, and so forth. Most complaints here are outside her control. Show up and the class is great.
i got cooked on the final
Wasted my time for nothing. Do not chose!
Worst experience of my first year journey. Poor notes, disorganised materials, 50 packs for Stemple, no references books, over loaded and heavy lectures, and no past exams.
The lectures and practice problems were totally different from the final exam, I suggest that it may not have been prepared by the instructor herself.
I don't want say anything, simply no.
I made the wrong choice.
The notes are difficult to follow due to poorly referenced, and the final exam felt more challenging than what was covered in the lectures. She is good person tho!
She was a really nice lady, and very funny during her lectures as well. Everyone who tanked her ratings because of her final exam genuinely just did not study enough for it. It was definitely difficult, but still doable. She is very knowledgeable on the course, and a great prof, just beware of her 8am lectures and not falling asleep.
Terrible professor, doesn't teach half of the most important things on a final exam in class and expects you to memorize half of the course with terribly organized online “lessons”. Doesn't give any type of practice for final exams or midterms, and the one that she might provide if you're lucky is not relatable at all to the exam that you're taking
Dr. Lei's course was not very difficult overall, and she was not a bad instructor. However, the lecture notes were not well prepared or properly referenced. At times, quizzes from Stemple were forgotten, likely because access was only available on campus computers since you didn't pay 50. The problem sets and exams were quite different.
The professor was not bad overall—accessible, kind, and even funny. However, make sure you got the past exams before choosing her; otherwise, you will only get stress and depression. !!!! Got past exams before choosing her !!!!!!
DrLei never missed a class and was accessible during office hours. However, considering the amount of time and effort I put into the course, with the exam I received felt completely disproportionate, like sky and ground. It was a very discouraging experience,,,
Dr. Pei is nice prof and seems to actually want her students to succeed. Contrary to the other ratings if you actually studied and did the practice problems you would have done fine on the midterm and final. My only complain is that we didn't have time to do P block elements lecture in class, which was purely memorization and tested on the final.
ts teach loves testing p block which she never even taught us and we had to purely memorize from a online lesson on the big stumble. fire professor!! please test me more on p block and toss my grade 😛
Final exam was one of the hardest out of all the engineering courses. Made 50% of the final on a unit she never covered and expected us to do by ourselves and then also lied to us about the final split saying that it would only be 13% of the final, it was not.
doesn't want to teach material herself so she makes you read a 33 slide stemble on sum p block which makes up like 50% of the final and midterm. it's not like i stayed up till 6am just to quizzed on what boron does in the day to day society ✌️
It's a tough course, she was a wonderful professor who told us everything we needed to know and emphasized the important stuff. Everyone here is complaining about the p block stuff but she told us well in advance that she wouldn't have time to cover it and gave us ample resources to study the material. The experiments were awesome as well
All my engineering courses provide proper notes, references, past exams, and even annotated material. In her course, however, only video lectures, problem sets and notes that are incomplete and often blank are posted. I'm not sure if this is a lack of interest in sharing her knowledge or limited mastery of the course. For me, THE WORST
One of my biggest regrets. I don't recommend, do not take please.
Her lectures were mediocre (The onesShe”taught”), the rest which compiles of half of the final exam she doesn't teach and makes you pay $50 to be able to take quizzes and to learn what she decides she doesn't want to teach despite all the students already funding her underwhelming performance. Terrible professor, she needs to be removed as a prof✌️
I don't recommend.
Not a good professor for my first-year. She didn't cover nearly half the syllabu and told us to study it ourselves. Shockingly, half of the final exam came from that uncovered material. If we had to self-study, why did we pay thousands for the course and extra $50 for Stemple for just 5% quizes? It was a business, don't recommend
Honestly, she is not very effective in this course, even though she is kind and nice. If you are a first-year engineering student and passionate about chemistry, choose Prof. H. Taha.
Most terrible prof
She didn't finish the full syllabus and told us to study the P-block on our own. The worst professor of the semester, she is there to discourage. I do not recommend at all.
She didn't cover all the syllabu throughout the semester, paid 50 bucks for Stemple which holds only 5% of quizes. I haven't seen smth special.
Lei Pei is a great professor despite all the things other people are saying about her. It was made very clear to the class on multiple occasions that the P-Block material was not going to be covered in lectures. We were given ample time and resources to complete this material and were warned multiple times that this material IS ON THE FINAL.
My experience with Dr. Lei was not good. Her notes were poorly organized and inadequately referenced, with no past exam practice and little guidance for the final. No matter what grade she gave, I won't appreciate or blame myself. Not my preference
Lectures were good and informative. These were available through zoom and were even recorded so content was always accessible to us. Notes were awesome and the difficulty of exams were comparable to that of the problem sets, although somewhat memorization heavy. P-block content given in the same note/yuja video format would've made this a 5/5.
Her class was boring, with poor notes and a lack of pastxams. Not my favourite.
I WON'T RECOMMEND.
Dr. Pei was a very effective professor. Around 10% of students went to the lectures, so all the bad reviews are from those who are surprised that they didn't do great in the course when they didn't go to any lectures or do ANY of the assignments without AI. If you put in the necessary work, Dr. Pei is great and you will be successful. DO THE WORK!
Lei Pei is a very good professor. Through no fault of her own, the course is boring. Notes are well made and every resource we can have is given. Negative reviews are almost all baseless. No past exams: entire department doesnt do that. ESSC doss supply! No p-block: again, the entire department. Stemble: how is that her fault? Again department.

As u can see I got a C- in the course. However that's because of my own inability, I showed up to 2 lectures the entire semester and studied a total of 3 days and still passed. Lei Pei is a wonderful person and truly cares, she does NOT deserve all these ratings. My advice? Stay caught up, she gives a lot to work on but if u do it, you'll be fine.
As long as you go to the lectures and do the assigned reading you'll be totally fine. She's really funny and responds to emails quickly, which is always nice.
She was not good prof for me, sorry.
Genuinely a great person and a great prof. Lectures are very clear and she's very keen on actually explaining the chemistry behind everything instead of just memorizing. Also has very funny but effective analogies that I actually used to understand the material. Lectures are live on zoom and also recorded which makes studying for exams a lot easier
Why are you guys (agents) trying to cover her fault as a department fault? Isn't she a member of the Chem department? Additionally, it's not advisable to pressure students to rate her highly. Everyone says what experienced. To sum up, all said is true, since she is part of the Chem department, she should carry and fix her faults.
The worst professor ever. Who you know matters, since past exams can be obtained from them. Do not choose please
I'm devastated by the review bombing. She had a 90% rating before this. She was arguably the best professor I had in my first semester. She consistently gave relevant analogies and examples to explain content and help keep us engaged. That being said, we were told to complete 2 lessons on our own due to students' push for "slower paced" content.
Her lectures are boring and slow. She didn't finish the curriculum and had us learn a bunch of stuff by ourselves and the midterms and final were not similar at all to what she taught. Also she didn't post any past midterms or finals and made us pay $50 for online notes and quizzes. Don't know why it says I would take her again cuz I wouldn't.
She would always yap about how u jus had to understand it and it would make sense. Unfortunately this is easier said than done.
Her lectures are easy to follow, and she's the friendliest person ever. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to cover all the material during class, but she was very clear about what we had to study on our own and posted video lectures for it. Just do the practice problems, don't skip lectures, and you'll be fine.
Her lectures are very clear compared to other profs and she tries her best to make sure information is delivered in an understandable way. She tries to make lectures engaging and lighthearted such as bringing in demonstrations. It's true that there are some things that she tells you to study on your own but people exaggerate the amount.
Do not take Chem103 with her.
Lowkey a very funny prof. her lectures were not attended by most but she covered all the material on exams. she uploads lecture videos online which is helpful. she wont provide completed notes as she wants people to attend lectures. the lectures can get long but goes into detail and explains questions that are almost exact on the exams.
Honestly she was a great prof, I had her at 8am but since she records and does zoom meets for her lectures I was able to just join from home. She puts in a lot of effort into the lectures so just attend them and you'll do fine. I know people downvoted her after the final but Icl everything that was on the final, she said would be on the final lol.
The course unnecessarily complicates simple concepts. The pressure and stress placed on students, along with unclear info about the final exam, made the course difficult to navigate. Additionally, the lecture notes were often poorly referenced and lacked clarity, which made learning more challenging than it needed to be.
