Classes are pretty boring, but the notes she gives you explain everything. I would recommend her for any stats class.
She gives you the notes for each class, very clear on her explainations about problems, willing to help if asked
Stats is not an easy class in general, but she makes it bearable. She does her best to make sure everything is clear to everyone, and the notes are already down so there isn't a lot of room for guessing.
Her class is very poorly put together. Yes, Her notes are already done for you, but in class she may do 2 examples a day, and lecture of concepts that are of no use when it come time to take the exam. Although she does teach a great deal of information very little of it is useful. So if you take Devine, be willing to teach most of it to yourself
Good Stats teacher, especially compared to others in the dept. A lot of work required (HW etc..).
She is a easy to understand teacher. She has homework to help you understand the work and then gives you all the answers with the work. Stats is not easy or fun but she makes it fairly enjoyable to be there

She is a very good teacher. She made the class bearable. Class is canceled the next class after an exam. One 3X5 notecard allowed for quizzes and midterm exams. Most quizzes were take homes. You get three of those notecards for the Final Exam which is unfortunately cumulative. She is very willing to help you if you have any problems.
By far the best OR 380 teacher at BGSU. She goes through everything very slowly and thoroughly. She is very nice and is willing to help you out at office hours. Tests were not that hard and the group project wasn't bad either. Great notes. Summer session, 3 tests, 1 project, class is curved. Definitely take Leigh Devine for OR 380.
Not a bad teacher. The class itself is pretty tough. Frequent quizzes during the first half of the semester. If someone in class is talking, she will completely stop class. Its pretty funny actually. Not sure if I would suggest this professor or not
It's a hard class. Leigh does a good job at teaching it. Grading is a little confusing, but that's because they use statistics to figure everyones grade. I would recommend her.
Wonderful teacher. Easily the best STAT 211 teacher BG has to offer. Stats is hard and you'll have to study, but this is college. Leigh made this class enjoyable.
I think she does a pretty good job. A lot of the time it's like she's speaking a foreign language when she's teaching but once you get going it's not too bad. She lets you use note cards on all the quizzes and exams. Plus she's the stat coordinator so if anybody knows what's on the exam, it's her.
She is a great teacher. She is clear when explaining stuff and goes over problems in class. Additionally she will help you if asked
Class is hard and nerve wracking. The grade scale was curved so that helped a lot, but I felt like I was behind the entire semester. Keep up with the homework and study for the quizzes/tests (note cards are allowed on them) and you should be fine.
Leigh is a great professor. I went into stats thinking it was going to be quiet difficult. She covers material very thoroughly and lets you use notecards on all exams. Go to class and pay attention...you will not fall behind. Final was super hard but all other exams were not too bad. Recommend for STAT 211.
OR380 is a very hard class, but Leigh does her best to make it a pleasant experience. She is very nice and tries to help as much as she can, but you MUST study and do the homework if you want to do well in the class. I heard people complain that the tests were too hard. If you do the homework, you should be fine.
Best OR 380 teacher at BG. She keeps things simple and goes at a nice slow pace which makes the class easy. Exam questions are basically of the same difficulty as class examples. No "real" homework and you don't really need the book. Definitely take her class.
Very nice. Does an excellent job teaching the material using printed off notes that we follow along with. Very clear and easy if you keep up with the homework. Examples in class are good, but helps to reinforce material through homework. Always announces quizzes & no projects or papers.
This is a difficult class. She does a great job teaching the material. This class takes a lot of time and effort, but Leigh does not have any surprises. No homework due no quizzes and exams basically come from the homework and class material.
Devine is a good professor. While stats is very difficult, she does her best to explain it. No easy points for grading though; it is totally quizzes, homework, and exams (no attendance). Lets you have a note card on all exams and quizzes which means you just need to understand the concept, not memorize it. Would take another class with her.
Leigh is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and is very willing to help students. Homeworks and quizzes help as an easy boost to your final grade! I would highly recommend taking this instructor!!
Leigh is very nice and does a good job explaining things. However, her exam grading is subjective and the weighting isn't consistent. Also, I could never get over was the number of times she said "um". One um day I um counted and she um said um 7 times in um a single um sentence, and over 60 times during the 50 minute lecture. It drove me crazy!

OR is a hard subject to begin with, but she does not help the issue with her teaching and rediculous grading. The tests are extremely involved and hard and she doesn't give enough time for them. Also, the final is worth most of your grade and is incredibly long and hard. It took my grade down 20 percent (i had a B going into the test) Horrible.
She explains things over and over and makes you feel like you are in 5th grade with her teaching style

It would honestly be easier to skip class every day and teach yourself. Absolutely unclear explanations - even confuses herself sometimes. Tests are not easy by any means - 75 students and 1 'A.' Avoid taking at all costs.

The amount of pain you go through in that class every day is awful. Cannot understand what she says and takes off points for the littlest things. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Grading is ridiculous; she'll take off 3 points for missing one irrelevant word. Homework assignments are out of 75 points individually (so a decent amount of work) but overall homework grade is equal to 100 points. Class is unbearable. Avoid her even if it means rearranging your entire schedule
Leigh grades tough, but fair. If you do the homework and follow along in class you will do fine. Attention to detail in the homework and exams is the key to success. A good student will do fine in any of her classes.
Do not take Leigh. Attention to detail is one thing, but having to spend hours and hours on homework that will only be worth one exam grade in the end is ridiculous. Her grading is not easy and paying attention in class is almost pointless because she is so unclear. Asking a question will lead her to an unhelpful tangent. Just avoid all of it.
Going to class is practically pointless - the book can teach you better. Her tests aren't easy, and she assigned a pointless group project that just adds to the stress of the semester unnecessarily. It'd be wise not to take her.
Easily the worst instructor I have ever had. She makes the class much more difficult than it should be, and she's practically useless if you have a question. She grades everything like it's an exam, therefore, expect a low grade if you ever have the...pleasure... of having her.
I really would NEVER recommend this professor to anyone, even if we were enemies or I hated that person. I really really dislike this professor. She is not helpful whatsoever, grades homeworks and tests ridicously hard. The averages after exams in the class are usually C's or under... This class has been so painful. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
Would never recommend her to anyone. The most brutal experience of a class I've ever been a part of. She is absolutely unhelpful, and her grading is ridiculously hard. Having (8) 75-point homework assignments turn into one 100-point grade is not fair by any means, especially when she grades homework like it's an exam.
Probably the worst professor at the university. If you're stuck with her, buy the book and read it from cover to cover. you can teach yourself better then she can teach you.
Even when you manage to be able to pay attention in the most boring, monotone class... what she is saying does not make any sense. AVOID HER. You will 100% regret the stress she and this class will cause you.
Sitting here studying with a group for our final tomorrow teaching ourselves what she supposedly took two weeks "teaching" us. You will not learn anything from her. Literally the worst teacher I've ever had.
Do not take. She is the most scatterbrained teacher I have ever had. Then she will take off a ridiculous amount of points for a simple mistake even though you understand the concept. The final grade consists of only exams and a group project that is worse than the exam. Minimal points and she will dock you for every little thing.
Teaches like her class is full of high school freshmen. Terrible at explaining the concepts in a way that everyone can understand. Also always explains the simplest instructions in greatly unnecessary detail.

She is a very very very nice woman, which makes this review hard. She grades the Homework so difficult so do it with a TA, or Ms. Devine, so you know it it right. Her exams are difficult, and she gets confused a lot in class. She also changed the grading scale twice in the middle of the semester. If Boudreau or Chang is open, take them instead.
DO NOT TAKE. She rushes through material, is scatterbrained, and gets so excited and caught up in solving and calculating that she forgets to explain what we are even learning. The homework we have to complete is irrelevant to what she teaches. I pay attention in class and take notes- yet thats not getting me anywhere. worst teacher I've ever had.

Ignore the other negative reviews- I can guarantee that most of them skipped class, messed around on the computer during class, and/or didn't do the homework. To get a good grade, pay attention, do all of the homework, practice before the test. And for the project, double check everything. **Tip: before taking this class, brush up on your excel.

Her method of teaching is doing a problem from the book (which by the way, doesn't explain anything), on the board, without explaining how to do it, and expects you to understand. She is only available during office hours. BGSU needs to find better!
Leigh Devine was an absolutely awesome instructor. She really could not have been any better. I know I am in the minority, but I really thought she was a great instructor. She is extremely organized and helpful. I am amazed at the negativity toward her on here.
She is a fair prof. The exams can be tough, but she allows 3 pages of whatever you want to write down to help for the Final Exam. Her grading is also fair and she curved the class avg by a few points to raise me to the next grade level.
She is clearly very intelligent and knows her stuff about STATISTICS. The issue is that she cannot translate the knowledge into teaching. Her scatter-brained approach leaves ideas all over the board, while she tries to simultaneously teach many different concepts; which are not easy to begin with. Tests rarely represent taught material or format.
Lectures are long and boring. She isn't very clear as she lectures which makes learning really difficult. And as a result the tests are really hard, if you don't know what is going on.
Not awful but she is very ambiguous. Doesn't give much info about tests. She is all over the place during lectures and gets off track easily. Rambles on a lot and often times does what could be done in 45 minutes in 1 hr 15 minutes. Got a B in her class, it isn't bad if you do the extra homework and pay attention.

Not a bad looking woman. Not too great of a teacher however. She seems like the type of woman who knows so much about stats that it is hard for her to explain it to kids who have no idea what she is talking about.
OR 3800 was fairly easy for me, but ONLY because I already knew how to use excel. I didn't already know specifically the things covered in OR 3800, but knowing excel very well made it fairly intuitive. This instructor explained the material, but not in a good way that was very clear. GO TO CLASS otherwise you'll miss one thing and be screwed.
Does her best with this tough subject. Doesn't curve so you best try your hardest. Very willing to help, great office hours and asks during class. Don't blame her for your shortcomings with OR. Either you won't ever understand it or you're not working hard enough. Most of the time it's ppl not working hard enough. D is passing though
Her class is not easy, but she is a good teacher. Go to class or else you will miss alot. Use her office hours too she is very helpful.
While class was not mandatory, I still went every day. This is by far the hardest class I have taken here. One of the biggest issues is that she struggled with rephrasing the points she wanted to get across when asked for help, everything was only ever described one way.

She is very boring and is very hard to pay attention. I had to work in a group for every assignment because I was so lost in the class. She makes you learn everything on your own because her lectures are not helpful at all. The lab is a totally different TA and it was very confusing to follow.
Leigh is a very generous grader. Because the course is weighed harshly, she makes the course laid back, and she does a good job teaching in her lectures. As long as you take the class seriously and go for help when you don't understand something, you'll do well in this course. The only thing I didn't like was her TA's. They were monotone in the lab
Leigh is better than most math teachers I have had, but I think she thinks that we are like five years old. She repeats everything eight times and one or two will do. The hour and 15-minute lecture could probably take 45 minutes at most if she would stop repeating herself. Overall I would take her again though because good math teachers are rare.

This class has been one of the toughest ones Ive ever taken. She can be very boring and it can be hard to pay attention. Assignments (which there arent many of) take hours to complete but are worth barely any points. All the points go towards the 3 exams which if you fail you wont pass the class. Do not recommend taking her at all!

The classes go over easy problems. With the homework, it gets harder however she doesn't explain the how to do these harder problems. You need to utilize the TA or go to her during her office hours. Lastly, the exams can ask questions that she didn't go over during class, or was relative to the homework.
Leigh doesn't explain how she is doing the problems or where she finds the answer. She obviously knows a lot about Stats and is passionate about math, but a terrible teacher with little to no support.

Homework is not turned in nor graded, but you will only do well in the class if you do the homework by her suggested due dates. She is willing to help with the homework during office hours. Her lectures are fairly easy, the homework is harder and the exam is exactly like the homework. She is very nice, explains things clearly, and grades fairly.

I can't complain much since I got an A but the lectures are pretty brutal. Every class is about and hour and thirty minutes of formulas and jumbled crap that she can hardly even get out in a coherent manner followed by the last fifteen minutes saying "but we don't need any of that because we have excel". Why even bother with talking about formulas
Personally found her online format hard to follow and taught myself the material. What she teaches in the lectures doesn't correlate to the homework or exams which are 100x harder. Has a ton of homework and quizzes but its only worth a small % of your overall grade. Her 3 exams are worth 65% of your grade so if you do bad on one exam youre screwed
Leigh is a really good person and she is super sweet, but the class itself is very challenging. She does her best to help you understand what is going on but it should not be an online class. It is so much to learn and just was a bad call to be made online. She is very good about helping you though so that's nice. Exams are tough though.

Although help wouldn't be needed if she could teach in the first place. Exams are open notes, and this class uses excel for most of the math, so that makes the class pretty easy.

Solid professor who definitely cares about the topics she teaches. Good at explaining out math problems, although not very lively as a lecturer. If you show up and pay attention you will do well with her and in this class. She offers many office hours and tutoring hours for the extra complicated stuff that is hard to grasp. Leigh is a great stats professor. This class itself can be challenging (and probably shouldn't be taught over zoom) but she's there for students if they have questions. Go to her in class office hour times, she's very helpful with going over homework questions. Exams are challenging but open note.

This was the most boring class I have taken yet. Her classes are super boring and seem to drag out and feel like forever. 50% of the class is videos and worksheets compiled into essay sized announcements that students are expected to read. We are then told to watch multiple 40 minutes videos a week that are extremely boring. A terrible education
Honestly never went to class because shes so boring and all her lectures were online anyways. I don't think shes a bad professor but its a tough class so chegg was my hero.
She was quite boring but she made her class super easy. I've taken high school stats and it was exactly the same. I recommend using all of the resources for the exams if you are not sure about something. This class is hard to fail.

Extremely tough class, but made more difficult than it should have been by her. Homework is not worth a grade, participation is graded, however does not make a difference in overall score. Tests are worth almost all points and no notes are posted on Canvas. Miss one class and you are screwed. I recommend avoiding this professor at all costs.

I do not recommend Leigh. She is kind and wants students to succeed, but that's about it. Her lectures are hard to sit through and understand. She does not post any class notes or materials. Your grade is determined by attendance and several exams. Class average on exams was rarely above a C (two exams were mean score of a D). Good luck.
Leigh was awesome! This is a tough class no matter who your professor is. Her lectures can be boring, but she was very clear on the topics and was very accessible outside of class. The exams can be tricky, but they are based on the homework. The bad reviews are probably from people who didn't spend enough time on the homework outside of class.
Professor does not curve even with very low class averages. Professor gives hard tests with little to no preparation material available. Look for a very difficult class with many difficult homework assignments and tests with little to no ways to boost your grade.

I have taken Professor Devine twice, failed her BA 2110 class then retook it with another professor and passed with a B. I decided to give her another shot and that was the wrong decision. I withdrew from her BA 3800 class because she is such a hard grader and her only points are exams. She is the reason my graduation has been delayed.
This was the hardest class I have taken in college there are 3 exams that make up 65% of your grade they are not lockdown but her answers are written by her so not found on the internet The class was extremely hard to follow along in and her canvas is confusing I have to retake this course and stats is not something i will need in the future.
This class should not be taught online. However, Leigh does her best to get you through it. The exams are difficult, but doable if you understand Minitab and watch her lecture videos. I personally thought Minitab was a waste of time, as it is a glorified form of Excel. I know after this class, it would be irrelevant for me to ever use again.

Literally talks like she does not know what she's talking about and makes no sense. She'll explain the simple stuff for ten minutes and then skip over the difficult stuff. She's very cooky and it is very hard to sit through this class. Its pretty easy but unfortunately she made me hate it

Easy A-B if you can take the time to do the homework, but there is just so much homework that takes a while to complete.
Honestly she just yaps about nothing. The only reason I got a good grade is because I was able to teach myself. She does not do a good job at explaining things and over explains simple subjects and under explains the complicated subjects. Wouldn't really recommend tbh.
Really nice person, and I don't think she is nearly as bad as everyone claims. Her videos and materials are helpful, but what is more important is being able to figure out what is being asked of you in each question based on the wording. I would recommend printing the worksheets that come with each chapter and basing notes off of those.
Tough course, but managed to get through it with the help of Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook. Professor's teaching style takes some adjusting, but the resources made a difference.

In took Professor Devine for Bizx2220 online, the course was pretty simple and had a great structure. Professor Devine always answered quickly to email. Overall, a great professor and an easy class. Did require taking the Data IT certification exam, but she gives you all the resources you need to pass.
I enjoyed having Prof. Devine, I took 3 of courses. Work isn't always easy so make sure to make friends with the people around you. She will help when needed. Chat GPT helps sometimes but don't rely on it. I prefer her over other professors.
The people complaining about her probably just didn't put in the effort. I took her for BA 2120 and I barley passed because I didn't try. I then put in the effort with the next course and I easily got a B. She has tutoring and office hours basically everyday. She also answers emails very quickly. Just do the homework and you will pass no problem.
I enjoyed this class because the lectures are 90% hands on doing problems in excel. Leigh is very thorough and makes sure her students stay on track. I appreciate this, but at the same time I feel as if each lecture could be just as effective in half of the amount of time. Exams are challenging, pay attention and do the homework, you will be fine.
