Good Prof...wish I would have listened a bit more
great prof, too bad i never kept up with homework
good prof, too bad economics is sooo boring!
A Cool Prof...wish had participated more in class!!!
Awesome Prof - Very Helpful and Very Clear
She is very helpful you just have to ask

Very good at explaining

I don't know how she does it, but she explains things in a way that just make sense... If you're going to take Econ, take it with her.
Great prof, explains concepts well. Nice person in general.

the best so far
Good prof, teaches effectively and explains concepts very clearly.
she was a good lecturer but no soo good in the test preperation and test writting areas. I found her tests unfair and she tries to trick you alot.
She's a nice person and a good lucturer. The sample questions are always much easier than what she puts on the exams.
she is da best teacher!!!
She is the best prof. She can explain things in a way you can understand. Always willing to help students. I highly highly recommend her.
Going to class is extremely helpful cuz she'll usually give clues as wat and not to study for the exam but tests are ticky.
Amazing prof, that is all i can say. If you go to class you dont even have to read the text book! exams are all fair, tries to give as many hints as possible. overall funny teacher and she has an amazing teaching style. I dont know any other prof at western that teaches like her! MACDONALD ROCKS :)
her mc questions are impossible. Uh, a and b, all of the above, none of the above. She makes them way too hard. Plus class is a complete bore.
Interesting class, I only wish it wasn't done on powerpoint and that there weren't so many morons talking through class. I was wishing all year that she'd lay it down, but never did. I also wish the exam was all written, the MCs are too subjective. A good, clear Prof
Macdonald is not the brightest lecturer and her short answer exams are easy and fair. However her multiple choice exams are extremely tough and unclear. Macdonald likes to screw around with dumb questions that she has trouble explaining herself. You might want to stay clear of her big ass.
Her teaching style takes a little time to get used to. Nice thing is never opened text book...her online notes and math examples in class is all you need. Sample exams are great. However, final exam was tough since all multiple choice. Overall, fair teacher
Very good, very helpful. very hot. Well not too hot. Well not at all. But great prof.
She knows her stuff go to class take notes and study a bit and you should rock this course
Shes the most boring prof ever. When she does the freakin smiles, i almost am going to puke. I hate econ now.........she is the death of econ.
she is not the worst prof, but she is pretty bad. You should only pick her if she is second term and middleton is first term. Middleton is an amazing prof and probably the easiest. However, I am not so sure it is worth suffering through her class. She really ruined economics for me. You will need to teach yourself the course. Good luck next year!
A good prof. She explains concepts well. She goes slowly and makes sure everyone has caught up. Her exams are deceptible easy but can be fairly hard. If you attend lectures and have good notes you will do well.
I've hated macro since.
Good Prof
Pay attention in class, print off the lecture notes, and make sure to copy down the sample questions she provides. One of the best profs I've had at Western.
while she is a good teacher, her methods are alittle wierd... hard to follow when she uses slides and overlaps them to illustrate graphs etc... good overall
She's really helpful and goes out of her way for students. Those who complain about her simply don't take the initiative. Go to class, print lecture notes, understand her sample questions and you'll be set for her exams. She practically gives you the exam questions but with different numbers. Oh, and don't bother buying the textbook/study guide.
All the Chinese students try to cram into her classes because she has a spectacular reputation. MacDonald's classes are designed to prepare you for the exams. There isn't a whole lot of trickery in her testing method. Take her class if at all possible...200 Chinese students can't possibly be wrong.
awesome prof
One of my best profs at western, and economics is my worst subject!! Important tips: print notes and copy everything down (even if you don't get it in class, you will later), she tells you exactly whats on the exam so listen!, make sure you get the sample questions, attend every class, and don't buy the text book (workbook is somewhat useful). Goo
The midterms were pretty good and she gives old exams which are extremely helpful. Lectures weren't too bad and she was helpful during office hours. But the final exam was the hardest exam I have ever written and I know all students in my class agree with me - it was my best class all semester until that exam (dropped my mark 17%). I studied too.
FINAL exam is killer
Best econ prof ever. very clear with her expectations. Textbook is not necessary but must go to every lecture. Lectures move fast. Exams are hard but you can't complain because she tells you exactly what is on it.
Midterms very fair since she tells you almost exactly what is on them however the final will kill you, completely different style and dropped everyone's marks significantly!!
Horrible teacher. By the end of class no one knows whats going on.She does not clairfy how extensive you have to go into thetextbook or work book. If you have her change her I had high 90s in first year econ and droppe to mid 70s. Shes horrible.
Made economics very simple. Apparently if you continue further with economics, alot of the tricks and shortcuts she gives don't hold true
Horrible marking, low balled the entire class. Avoid.
Lectures were super boring/easy, Exam was BRUTAL! Did not like her teaching style at all.
Worst professor I have had, not because she can't teach but the stuff she teaches and stuff in the textbook is only half of whats on her exams! She puts impossible MC questions on that involve high level of math knowledge (i would know i took a full year of calc and am in science) u can know every word in text and lecture and not do well on her MC
From day 1 she tells you if you come to every class you don't need the textbook - she's dead serious you're fine without it. she posts 2 prior exams so you have the exam style down. clear, fair, and easy.
If you attend class, you will do well. The course is easy to follow along and you get a ton of practice before the exam. Extensive use of short-forms may be confusing if you haven't had her before. Excellent prof.
Terrible overall, slides were of little use and were much too easy compared to the test material, gave brutal practice prior to exams which were far too easy, and evaluations were very difficult. Avoid if you can
Great professor and shes very helpful. Overall had a great class experience.
This woman is a freaking all-star. I had literally 0 interest in Econ prior to taking this class (was compulsory for my module). Never opened the textbook, GO TO LECTURE!! Exams were 100% lecture based (you could read the book instead but that's stupid), she gave practice exams for all midterms and finals. Wants students to succeed. Awesome prof.
Pretty good prof in terms of getting the material across. Her PowerPoints are pretty clear. Don't bother with the text book, she scanned all the HW questions and posted online. Multiple Choice questions are pretty tricky on her midterms, but she does have some short answer that are very manageable.
terrible prof, Her exams were harder than other class and there were only a small portion of MQ, the rest of the exam were all terribly graded short answers. also her postings are a mess, she cannot even name the lecture files in a clear way. always got econ grade in 90+ but only got 70 at her class.
Refreshing prof who actually has clear grading schemes, very nice and easy to talk to. Seems to generally care about here students
great prof
If you're a student who misses a lot of class, her courses will be very difficult to do well in. But, If you come to every class she makes it clear of what is expected of you to do well. Her office hours are great. There are no stupid questions which made it easier to learn quicker. If you come to class, work hard, she is a great prof to have!
class was monday night from 7-10pm. she regularly went past 10pm. Her lectures put me to sleep. Her slides were easy enough to follow and the textbook was fine but it didn't help on exams. she took concepts that were mentioned in passing and based exams on them. would not recommend. Went to every lecture, still bombed the course.
Fair prof, go to her class and you will do well. All of the notes that only appear in class show up on the exam. I recommend going to her office hours, she gives away exam questions.
so fantastic i loved her so much and she's always there for you and is really helpful in office hours!
Great prof, teaches well. Tells you specifically what you are gonna be tested on. Her multiple choice questions are tougher than you would expect and the short answers are easier. Final exam is full multiple choice.
she is lazy for writing reference letter for students, specially when she has a lot of reference letters to write, she starts to refuse me even if she had agree to write one for me already
Terrible prof! she's preachy and biased, marks insanely hard, and is ambiguous with her MC questions. Avoid her at all costs, this course brought down my average for the year by 7%
Boring lectures, hard exam questions.
Very kind. Unfortunately, I could never pay attention in her lectures, but that's not her fault. It's just that the course itself is very boring.
Good prof a bit boring at times but has fair exams and is really nice.
Great prof! Very good and clear lectures. Mid-Terms and final is very fair with no surprises.
I didnt learn much economics except dealing with her self-invented examples. She's not competent to explain the theories behind graphs. Preparing for her exams was frustrating. Most of the energy was wasted to combat with uncertainty instead of course content. We had to use hints written in the questions to answer them. AVOID HER AT ALL COST.
Some of her tests were brutal, but the subject was not my forte. She is approachable and friendly though.
Avoid her by any change! Messy but pointless lecture note, extremely hard and tricky exam. Not fair to students.
Professor MacDonald is a great professor! Her lectures are extremely clear and she outlines everything you need to know to do well on the exams. That being said, if you do not use the study materials she recommends you will not do well. Go to class, read the textbook, do the tutorial questions, and do all the extra problems and you will crush it!
Great prof. She is very nice and explains concepts fairly well.
Decent prof. She explains concepts well in her lectures, although her exams are quite tough. Textbook was useless and you really only need the slides. I highly recommend going to office hours as she often gives away exam questions
Leigh is so encouraging and nice to communicate with. She likes her class to have some debates and allows her students to share their thoughts! I took all the class she offers, a very nice professor and a very nice lady.
Amicable, willing to help, timely email responses. Not the most adept at technology and doesn't have the best handwriting. Personally hated economics but professor MacDonald made the course slightly more tolerable.
The exams are much more difficult than quizzes. She cares about her students and has a friendly personality. The lecture was also very clear. but she did not give high marks.
I really enjoyed her teaching style. Her exams are challenging but if you go to class and study with those notes and examples, you'll be able to do really well. She's also extremely helpful during office hours and gives many tips about what is important for upcoming exams. I will definitely try to take another course with her!
Honestly one of my favorite profs I've had. She really cares about her students, so if you struggle with the material, definitely go to office hours. On the tests, multiple-choice is a bit tricky but the short answer is fine as long as you do the SA from the practice exams.
She has possibly the meanest multiple-choice questions. Every single question has options for "all of the above" or "none of the above" or "A and B are true/false". If you are unsure about one of the potential answers, you are essentially forced to guess.
I was excited to take this course, as I had taken Econ in high school. However, the course was very unsuccessful for me. After reading the textbook, never missing a lecture or tutorial, and studying a TON, I barely passed her exams. Exams were made ridiculously hard. Disappointed in the way this course turned out for me.
Professor MacDonald gives decent lectures but her exams are BRUTAL. I studied her lecture notes, textbook notes, did all Mylab quizzes and barely passed. Very complicated midterms that require you to use multiple graphs to answer one multiple choice question, nothing like Mylab questions. Quizzes are easy but they dont really help, they are only 10%
When she has to curve an exam by 20+% you know something is wrong with the professor and NOT the students. She has personally made this course so hard where she tests you on things she hasn't taught, and explicitly tells you after the exam "oops, sorry i put questions I didn't teach you yet". Stay away from her. RUN if you want ok mental health
MacDonald is a great prof who cares about students doing well. She hints at what is going to appear on evaluations. Go to class, especially on exam review days. She emphasizes a more theoretical understanding than technical. That said, her course requires more content understanding - you can't get away with just memorizing approaches to questions.
MacDonald is a nice amazing woman, however she falls short in her teaching, tests and grading. Her tests are unlike any of the questions on MyLab, she does insane multi factor questions with multiple choice with multiple choice and only apologizes for it after half of the class has failed. I really hope she changes her teaching and testing style.
Prof Macdonald's exams were definitely hard, however, she was always fair and curved to compensate. As someone who struggles with economics, I actually enjoyed her lectures, and when I took the time to slow down and REALLY understand the content, that's when I started to perform better in the course. Quizzes are mark boosters! Responsive and kind.
Generally a good professor. I've definitely had worse, but also better instructors. MacDonald goes through a lot of material very quickly, but that's to be expected in Economics.
Spent a lot of time reviewing and didn't get the desired results. She has her own harsh and rigid definitions. The marks given to the exam answers are ridiculous. If you want to spend a class happily, please avoid her.

Great professor. You will do well in this course if you go to classes since she says what will be on the exam
do not take her classes
The best professor I've ever had! Though her MC questions could be hard, they are VERY similar to the sample exams! Make sure to fully understand the sample exam & math questions took up in class, and you'll do really well (personally got a high 90). She also curves/gives bonus points very often; she's extremely kind&helpful in office hours/emails!
Great lectures and slides to look back on, if you go to class and pay attention it is very manageable to get a good grade.
Very rude professor
