Not a good teacher at all...He grades students based on if he likes them or not and his instruction is not clear...very hard to follow...He expects you to know everything before you take the class...worst teacher ever
I beg to differ...very cool professor, actually cares if the students are getting it or not. He comes off arrogant at first, but he is reall cool, you will want to go to class everyday.
He starts off every class with story time so thats cool, and gives you the essay questions before every test. as long as you know your vocab and memorize the essays you'll do fine. and be sure to speak up and ask for help it will score points
Kempe is awesome but somewhat difficult. If you want to take Econ 40 as GE, you might want to reconsider b/c this class is rather hard for non-econ students. But he is clear, interesting, funny, and fair.
He is a very hard professor. He expects you to know everything and be right on his level. He plays major favorites with the students who know econ as well as him. He is a very cool person, but do not take his class. The hardest class ever unless you know your stuff.
Just make sure he knows who you are. I'd say if you're the kind of student who just sits in the back, silent, and hopes for a C, that's exactly what you'll get. I just went to class, did well on the first test so he knew who I was at least ( his tests are easy) and did well in the class. he's fun.
His class is difficult as any econ class. He gives you essays and sample multiple choice questions. As to favoritism, half the test is multiple choice, all the kids who did bad, did bad on that too (he does seem to like students who do well, but he doesn't rig scantrons)If you have a lower GPA, you might not like him, otherwise very enjoyable.
worst teacher he doesn't help you at all and if you are the type of person who doesn't kiss the teachers butt you're going to fail. Any teacher who starts their class by saying he's going to fail half the class right then isn't a good teacher.

If u are an Econ major or a genius, then u might pass his class w/ a c, very hard, not recommended for non econ majors or for the average student
buy the book and read it before each class. guy is so unclear when he teaches but if you have an idea of what he's talking about it makes it a lot easier. go to every review prior to tests bx he basically tells you exactly what to study. if i wouldve had this advice b4 this class my easy rating wouldve been higher.
He can be confusing sometimes, but he's a very engaging teacher. Keeps the class interesting. Read your book! It's preferable to read a chapter ahead. The tests are totally based on the quizzes so be there for quiz reviews.
Attendance isn't MANDETORY, but he keeps track of who's there and who isn't. He doesn't grade all tests equally, if he knows you're smart, he'll expect more from you and grade you more harshly. If you do go to class, you'll know exactly what he wants on the tests. I highly reccomend this teacher as well as reading the book and going to class.
Its a pretty hard class and he does a really good job at trying to help you understand. Ask as many questions as you want... Always know the essay questions on practice tests he uses the same ones on the real tests! The final determines your grade but usually he goes over everythind realllyyyy well! Class is definitely passable with a little work!
Kempe is a great teacher if you really want to know the subject but he is a jerk to people there just trying to pass haha. He will tease you until you want to punch him, but is the best teacher to learn economics from.
I never understood what he was talking about he doesn't teach it to the class--he has a conversation about Econ expecting you to have common sense about it. The only good thing is he doesn't believe in homework you'll never have any. only 3 test and a final. grades on a curve.. hard subject, but easy class for thoe who care about ECON.
Extremely hard subject to grasp, BUT if you put in some work, the class itself is SO easy NO HOMEWORK EVER! only 3 test and a final(final determines your grade) He definitley knows his subject very well. He is harsh on those who are smart because he expects nothin but the best. he practically determines who will pass the class after the first test.
This teacher sucks its that simple he hard doesnt teach well and when you ask him for questions he gets mad that you dont understand it idiot
This teacher sucks. period. He's rude, unhelpful and makes you feel like an idiot. He says this is the hardest class you will ever take, but then gets pissed and says how easy it is if you ask a question. He gets frustrated very easily and is just a horrible teacher. I would not take another class with him if my life depended on it
this teacher is so damn hard. he says its a hard class so ask questions but when you ask questions he makes you feel dumb. he RUDE. never take him. expects you to know the material by just reading the book. which is impossible.
I was excited about this class for about a week. Not the kind of teacher who wants the students to be a success. He's belittling (us and his own family!) condescending-can't believe he made it to this level and still has a job. He wears the failure rate like a badge of honor. Class participation is low-fear of humiliation. WORST TEACHER
Very difficult teacher. knows his material very well however, he rarely mentions the book everything is based on his experience. The study guide is completely different from the actual test. He expects you to learn every aspect of an economic function. very difficult for me and i am a 4.0 student and i studied the material hourly NOT RECOMMENDED.
Read the chapter before you show up and the class becomes simple. The study guides are VERY CLOSE to the actual test. In fact one was EXACTLY like the test, he just changed the names of the fictional characters. He's a sarcastic ****, but amusing if you don't take yourself too seriously.
WARNING: Worst teacher @fresno state. If you want a good grade, you either have to be an athlete or a hot girl. I cannot believe this loser gets paid to teach. Also brags about failing 50% of every class and in syllabus states that this is the "hardest class you will take @fresno state" DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
worst professor ever
WORST PROFESSOR!!! DON'T TAKE FOR ECON!!!
He's really not that bad. I put in minimal effort, and never went to class and still managed to get As on his exams. Make sure you understand his study guides and the test will be easy - he even curves.
He only grades you on your test scores. There are 3 tests and then a final. The first 3 tests are really hard, I did not do well. He gives you study guides and lets you keep the previous tests to study for the final. He is interesting to listen to. Going to class and taking notes helps for the essay parts of the tests. He is overall great teacher!
i had him for both econ 40 and 50. hes pretty funny sometimes but loves to brag about his life. i passed both classes with As but most usually dont. exam multiple choice is from the book--which he never ever goes over--and the essay questions are all covered in class. if you are failing his class, chances are he'll call you out on it.
I had him for both 40 and 50 Econ. He's great to talk to one-on-one but the class isn't easy. He really wants to help and asks people to ask questions so he could find an answer for them. Essay questions are gone over in detail and if you understand them and the concept, you should do well on the multiple choice. Great guy. Too much hate on here.
Very interesting person to talk with, but this class is very difficult. Your only grade is the final so you better study. Does give study guides and lets you keep the tests and goes back over them. Also there is no HW all semester. Overall a good teacher, but only if you can learn straight from lectures.
This professor is very helpful. It is very important for you to read the book. The only time he will make you feel ignorant is if you show up to class and have not read the material he specifically asked you to read well in advance. He gives all the material that will be on the tests. His teaching is very straight forward.
He's very helpful, straight forward, super opinionated, and extremely intelligent. Many people think he is hard however it is just the material that is difficult. As long as you attend class and pay attention you will do just fine. I also found it helpful to youtube some of the material for further clarity. 3 exams 1 final. A on final = A in class.
Horrible teacher half the class got an F teacher is out to get you.Material is difficult,he rambles alot about pointless things. His study guides don't help. Me & some guy took him last year,i was there every morning and still got an F we took a different teacher & we passed with an A. GE should never be this hard.
By far NOT a good professor at all. He makes thing really unclear and goes off topic most of the time. Some people actually got an A in the class but most didn't. I guess you have to learn this stuff on your own. The EXAMS are EXTREMELY difficult .
i struggle in this class so much. i hate going to class each day. everything is in the book. he scares you the first day of class and BELIEVE HIM!!! leave that class and don't take it. he only grades by tests and does answer questions clearly. very hard, and you must read read read your text book!
This is the worst class i've taken so far. He is a very intelligent person, but he grades really HARD! I went to class every day, and I hated it, especially when he starts rambling about things off topic. Avoid this class at all cost, unless your major demands it. Otherwise, take it with a diff prof. I regret taking this class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH ECONOMICS!
This is a very difficult teacher that will push the boundaries you had. Very easy to pass the class just read the book and study also ask questions and make the questions as clear as possible dont feed around the bush. Really a great teacher if you are prepared for college and want to better yourself
Teacher is a hardass. NOT EASY. He's hardly clear at all in his lectures, and just assumes you should get it, and if you don't, he will put you down in class. He is verbally negative to all of his students, and seems to take pride in it. He does care about his students, but doesn't show it in the bet ways. I would NOT reccomend.
This is the hardest class ever and the professor was just rude to his students. Don't take this class with this professor if you want to pass.
Super hard teacher
The worse professor to take. Very rude, puts students down, assumes that you know the material. Does not know how to teach! He is so negative & is discouraging. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Dr. Kempe is arguably my favorite professor of all time. Anyone who talks bad on him needs to get their life straight. He goes over the stuff you need to know for the exam literally dozens of times beforehand. Very straightforward class. His lectures are crystal clear and he keeps class interesting. Funny guy too - I'd love to have a beer with him.
horrible. says that the tests will be exactly the same as the practice tests, but they aren't. AT ALL.
I agree with the other positive review, everyone has it wrong. This is THE BEST Econ professor you will ever have. Clear concise and practical. The practice exams are the same as the tests concept wise, not literal copies. Pay attention, give an effort in class, and you'll learn more than most on what makes this economy spin
Avoid taking this teacher at all cost. He puts students down and makes it seem as if he does not want to see his students succeed. VERY RUDE! SERIOUSLY DO NOT TAKE HIM
worst professor ever. hate his exams. can't teach at all
Moderately tough class. He doesn't explain things too clearly and skips around the lecture a lot! You can copy the words exactly but it just doesn't do a lot of justice. I barely passed with a C with note taking, and no text book. If i can do it, you probably can too.
He is a tough teacher. I didn't like to attend class because I knew he would put his students down. However, I learned a lot and ended up with a B in the class. Study essay questions from the study guide, use the study guide book (not required, but helpful) and ask questions in class. Study guide multiple choice questions for final.
If you're on the fence about this professor based on these lackluster reviews, then read mine. I am confounded by these poor reviews. Kempe literally goes over every question on the test and answers any questions about it. He can be a bit sarcastic and all, but it never gets in the way of the class. If you don't get an A, it's only your fault.
Solid professor. The only way to get anything under a B in his ECON 40 class is to vegetate through the course and put in no effort. Critical thinking goes a long way in his class; the practice exam questions cover the concept directly, or the opposite of the concept. Didn't have to crack the book open once for the A b/c of all the practice exams.
This is definitely not an easy class! He's not a bad professor; he only gives out 3 exams and the final. Study and read the book! Go to SI if you need more help!!
Professor Kempe is by far one of the best professors I have had. I don't mean that lightly. He doesn't use powerpoint or spend a whole lot of time on the vocabulary and terms, he focuses on the arithmetic and analyzes things quantitatively. Also, develop a good sense of humor for his course, you'll need it!
By far one of my favorite professors. The material is hard but he does his best to teach us without using boring powerpoints. There is also no homework so you actually have to go to class. Beware I only recommend this class to Econ Majors, too hard for a normal general ed class. Super cool guy, still talk to him every time I see him.
This is not an easy class, but if you can take him, do it. He goes over the topics in class a lot so as long as you study you will pass. Never homework and he doesn't take attendance. By far one of the classes I have learned the most in at Fresno State. This class made me want to be an econ major.
Learn econ in a way your not use to. You will have to be able to draw graphs associated with the main chalets and explain in essay question about them. Their no papers in the class. Tests are easy 20 question multiple choice which are simple no duh answers and Essay questions at most 5-6. Even if you fail the 3 tests you can still get an A
One of the best classes I have taken. Read, Read, and Read the book. It's so much easier to know what he's talking about if you read material before lecture. Kempe is an amazing instructor, don't let him scare you off. This class is tough but if you read the book, attend lecture, take notes then you will get an A.
He is Not helpful at all. he wants his students to state the same sentences he use paraphrasing Dose not work. He could be rude at times. Instead of actually explain the chapter he talks a lot about his own life. I would never take another class with him.
Study, read, and go to SI meeting and still fail the test. Don't bother taking this teacher if you ain't a econ major.
I wouldn't recommend Kempe to anyone that wants an easy pass or even an okay class.. this class is HARD you really have to go out of your OWN way because he doesn't really help.
You have to put a lot of effort into this class. Make sure you read the book before the lecture because it will help you understand the material. He gives you exams from previous semesters to use as a study guide. The final is exactly like the other exams you take in the class, and you can use them to study for the final.
Kempe is a great professor, it is not easy but he actually makes you learn the material. You need to put effort in this class in order to pass, especially to get a good grade. I got an A in Econ 40 only because of all of the studying and extra help I got or else I do not think I would have made it through. I am now taking Econ 50 with him.
If you are a student who doesn't like to put in a lot of work, then do not take Kemp. If you don't read the chapter before coming to class then you will not know what he is talking about and he is very critical with his grading on the essay questions. Show up to class, read, and go to SI if you can then you have a better chance at passing
Honestly, he's one of the hardest teachers I've had but in his class I learned more than any other class. Econ majors should take his class if they want to understand the content. And If you want a boring teacher he's then don't take his class.
I DONT THINK THE CLASS IS HARD, BUT HE JUST DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. HIS EXPLANATION IS SO CONFUSING. THE SI LEADER IS WAY BETTER AT TEACHING THAN HIM. I PASS THE CLASS BECAUSE OF GOING TO SI. I RECOMMEND GOING TO SI RATHER THAN GOING TO HIS LECTURES. DONT BUY MINDTAP, YOU DONT NEED IT. COPY DOWN EVERYTHING WHEN HE GO OVER THE EXAM.
Kempe was one the toughest teacher's I've ever had. His tests are very difficult, and he was the hardest grader i've ever had. He'll learn your name and say hi if he sees you. Cool guy, difficult class. If you are an econ major, I recommend him, if not, take someone else.
Honestly not that hard of a class; however, you do have to study and reference text for test. Take notes on his lectures there are what is on the writtenmultiple choice exams. Don't be afraid to ask questions to clarify something. 3 Test 1 Final. If you dont do well on first 3 its okay, Final is what counts do good pass class.
I would not recommend anyone to take his class. He moves at an extremely fast pace. However, he often rambles on about his life during class. If you don't read the book, you will fall behind very quickly. He brags about how low his pass rate is for his classes. If you are not an Econ major, I would take a different teacher.
He is the worst teacher I've never met in my school life. His meaningless lecture was hard to understand and moved extremely fast. He doesn't try to understand what students are saying. He doesn't use blackboard, power point slides, and so on. So, it is difficult to get what important concepts are. I recommend to do not take his class.
Attended SI because he went off on random tangents that didnt correlate with the topic. took 2 exams in his class and he gave me a zero on my written portion because i "wrote in pen" and because he "didnt feel good and didnt want to grade." stopped going to his class and enrolled with another prof. worst teacher i have ever had. no structure
GO TO THE S.I. SESSIONS. Kempe jumps to different chapters in lec, but if u ask him to clarify anything for u, he will stop the class to explain. Microecn is a hard, but Kempe is a great professor and knows what he's talking about. Grades tough on essay questions, so make sure u know your graphs. As long as you pass the final, you will pass.
I dont know why Fresno State hired him. The only advice he gave me was just reading the textbook, but exams aren't related to the components.
I had Kempe for macroeconomics. I never missed a class and I still struggled immensely with his class. But the worst part about his class is that the only grade that counts is the final. So if you screw that up, then you're done for.
he check attendance sometimes( when his emotion is good), his class content is not exactly clear. But the most terrible thing is his grade really really tough. I don't know why I still get C, even though I work hard and the grade is top in the class. I'm sure no one could get a great grade in his test. Don't choice his class!
This class was fairly easy. Got an A with a minimal amount of effort even though it really wasnt clear what was required. He likes to tell stories about his personal life which are completely uninteresting and constantly makes comments about how "this may be the most difficult class many of you will take". Grading was very subjective.
Kempe is the best teacher I have had a state. His class is interesting. I would recommend going to SI, reading the textbook, and attending lecture. There is no reason why you should fail the class. The class is challenging, but if you take it you will really learn . I took him for both 40 and 50. If you are looking for an easy A do not it.
Likes to tell personal stories throughout class and often repeats himself. His lectures are so confusing and dull. I would not have passed if I didn't attend SI sessions. What you get on the final is your final grade.
Very difficult to sit through this professor's lectures. He rambles off a lot and tells more stories complaining about life than he does covering class material. Your entire grade is dependent on what you score on the final. I had an F the entire semester and somehow pulled a 94% on the final giving me a passing grade of an A. Not my favorite prof.
Anyone who isn't an Econ major will not like any econ prof. He is a super cool and chill guy but you much READ ahead, show up, pay attention, ASK QUESTIONS, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, hardly if not never gives out homework, he will tell stories but they in correspondence to the econ method you learned, retake tests, awesome if you get his humor!!!
I didn't pass the first time I took the class but that was mostly my fault. GO TO SI, I didn't until the last minute and that was a mistake. Go to every class and read the book and bring different colored pens you will use them all.
GRADE IS ONLY BASED ON THE FINAL. EXAMS ARE DIFFICULT AND THEIR IS NO STUDY GUIDE. HE DOESNT LIKE TO REPEAT HIMSELF OR EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT. FINAL IS WORTH 50% OF YOUR GRADE. AND HE DOES SURPRISE QUIZZES.
Kempe is a nice and funny guy but lectures do not follow the book whatsoever. And the book material is what is on the tests. Only three tests and a final that determine grade.
Class grade is weighted on the final. Although he seems to try to explain things, I always found him hard to understand. Does give study guides. NOT an easy class, I just squeezed through. For your GPA sake try and take with dif prof. Attend SI. You must study for this class! But if you put in the time you will pass the class.
He tries his best to help explain things with current situations but sometimes it may seem harm to understand and it may confuse you. However, this class is not really that hard. You are going to have to read the book in order to understand the material better. It is highly recommended to attend lectures everytime and practice graphing on your own.
Kempe is a tough grader but attending SI sessions are very helpful. I failed every exam except the final...I passed the course with a C. Kempe doesn't like repeating himself and expects you to read the chapter before coming to class.
Only exams in this class. But as long as you pass the final, you WILL pass the class. Very difficult for me. Warns you about it being a very tough class. Professor wasn't the best at explaining the content. Rambled on a lot. READ the book. ATTEND SI from the very beginning. ASK questions. No hw, no extra credit. Try not to skip- you'll miss a lot.
This professor gives hardly any feedback on graded tests or on what exactly we are being tested on. His teaching is NOT clear & tends to contradict what he has already said so lecture & what we're being tested on can be very confusing. Anyone looking to take Econ 40 should steer clear of his class. Especially at 8am, it's a bad way to start the day
This class was very hard, BUT professor Kempe was a very caring professor, I struggled at first but didn't give up and passed with an A. My recommendation is pay attention in class, he goes over all the examples for the test. whatever you get on the final could be your grade in the class unless lower that what you have. Take advantage of help
There's are 3 tests and 1 final, really hard. The final is made up of the 3 tests, so that's easier. He's not the best professor, does not offer much help outside of class. You have to read in order to pass the tests you'll only get answers to the free response in class. I don't recommend taking this class
Took him for Econ 40 and then Econ 50. At first I struggled in his class, but once you attend SI sessions, you will start to understand the material better. Just make sure you show up to class, ask questions, and look like you care about his personal life when he goes off on tangents, then you will get an A.
This is not an easy pass. If you are not willing to learn the materials you will not pass. He gives out practice tests prior to the exams and they are JUST LIKE THE TESTS, contrary to other reviews I have read. If you do the practice tests, go to class (and go to SI for extra help if needed) you will be able to pass this class. GO TO CLASS!
He has a tendency of going on long rants and sidetracking in mid lecture. His lectures consist reading from the textbook.
Your grade depends on the exams, thats it. Go to SI sessions they help, the free response on the exams are what he grades the hardest on. No homework, take this class with a diff. professor if you can.
Doesn't really go over notes or work. Mostly talks about his life and "masculinity." Grading is only on tests (mostly harsh on essay questions). The SI taught a lot better so if you can I'd just take a different professor. The SI leader was a lot better
Awful Doesnt lecture about the material, only talks about his life stories! Exams are the only assignments so if you fail those, you fail. Multiple choice part is lots of vocabulary and concepts from the book, which he doesn't go over in class. The Short Answer portion is HEAVILY graded (graphs) & he doesn't go over that in class either, don't take
Wonderful professor. From time to time he would drift off and talk about his life stories, but overall he's a great instructor. He thoroughly goes into everything and is willing to repeat it numerous times if you're not understanding it. USE the practice tests he gives you. The actual tests mimic them almost exactly.
Looked at reviews on here and I thought it was going to be the most difficult class of the semester but this professor helps me understand Econ. Some can't understand his sense of humor but he is actually a great professor and he is always willing to help and go over things as much as needed ! Definitely recommend ! Go to SI if you need extra help!
Thought Kempe was going to be very difficult but the class was not as bad as people make it out to be. I did not read the book and struggled a bit but still passed. Pay attention to the graphs he draws on the board and take notes as he is talking about them!!! or else you will not understand the graphs. He is a tough grader but reasonable.
You will actually learn a lot in his class, go to SI, do the practice tests. He's not the best at explaining things, but he tries so hard to help you understand the concepts clearly. If you really want to know and learn the concepts, he's the one. Tough grader tho.
I can honestly say, he is the worst professor I have ever had. I am not an economics guy(was just taking for GE). I have been going to college 3 years at the JC level & 2 at the CSU level. I'm not a genius, but I'm not a dummy either. But this class is so hard it's insane and he is easily the worst I've ever had. PLEASE, avoid at ALL cost...
AVOID HIM. Worst professor I have ever had ever. First day of class he said, "Half of you will fail." If he cared he would change that. Subject is not super hard but he doesn't explain clearly at all. I'm helping you all now. I am not stupid at all its doable but honestly the struggle for one class is not worth it.
He is the hardest teacher I have had, He goes off on random tangents and gets off track a lot. Go to si, it saved me from failing. There is 3 tests and a final, I failed the first 2 and got a B on the 3rd. Passed the final with a C and passed the class with a C, I rarely showed up because his lectures made 0 sense but went to si and passed.
Professor Kempe is your typical professor; bland personality, dry humor and he's old so he can't hear. His exams are the hardest I have ever taken. He gives you a practice test with similar answers on it and you think if you just study that practice test you will be fine but no. He changes the real test so much that the practice test is irrelevant.
He teaches nothing, he goes to the board and starts drawing graphs and that is it. The only thing you learn is his personal experiences or stories. You HAVE to go to SI if you want to pass the class. Good luck.
Do not take this class! Horrible at explaining things and rambles on about personal life instead of material . Of the students that don't attend SI every day, only 17% pass . So basically you have to show up to class and to SI to pass . Should really be a 6 unit class. This class has the highest fail rate at Fresno State and for good reason .
Brags about his low pass rate which is more reflective of his awful last century teaching style. Grades only 3 tests and the final which must be done HIS way. He swears by going to SI with his beloved Loryn (a past student) that you will pass but they often contradict one another. Just plain rude sometimes too.
Professor Kempe talks a lot about his life and too me he rambles a lot. I came to realize that his ratings on this website were very accurate. He is a very tough grader and none of his practice exams match his reagular exams. Go to SI sessions or else youll do very poorly in the class. Good luck if you end up taking him
Avoid taking his class at all costs. I am a great student and this teacher is very discouraging. He talks about "your generation this" and "your generation that" and blames his classes mass failures on the students and not on his inability to be a half decent teacher. He tears down his students and makes them feel incompetent. I HAD a 4.0 GPA.
He does not lecture anything about the subject, he talks about his life, and if he lectures it is the last 10 minutes of class. He does not make any sense when he does lecture. The study guide is nothing like the test. There is no homework but there are 4 difficult test, if you fail then you fail the class.
I sure learned a lot about how to pass college courses with this class, and that is: 1. Show up to every class, tune out of the rants but tune into the content, 2. Show up to SI sessions. All of them, 3. READ THE BOOK, or you will be lost, 4. Ask lots of questions, 5. Read the syllabus to see what chapters he will lecture, 5. Grade depends on final
ECON 40 is a very hard class, and this teacher doesn't make it seem any better. He goes up to the board and draws graphs for 90% of the class and doesn't really explain anything well at all. He's also very strict and can be rude at some times. Find another teacher.
I taught myself the material from the textbook. Failed all 3 tests but passed the final by studying the book on my own for many hours instead of going to class on the last few days. He drew graphs on the board everyday and expected you to understand them and if not he couldnt help you. Do not take this class with him!
For your own good, just dont take anything with him. You'll thank me later.
If you are here there is a reason, either a recommendation from a friend or other source. For me, Mr. Kempe is the reason why I started to use this site. Never again will I have a teacher like him. Spends 90% of his time explaining the same example and drawing graphs that he stands in front of and misplace variables on the graph often. DON'T TAKE!
Professor Kempe has the tendency to lose track of the subject at hand and talks into stories of his past, you need to constantly be reminding him to teach on topic. He has great knowledge of microeconomics but you beer to guide him through the lecture a little bit. This course is all about your test scores. A lot of self learning is needed.
In this class you basically have to teach yourself everything. He is a cool person but when it comes to teaching material he fails. He goes off topic a lot and does not teach things that are on tests. The only grade that counts is the final. If you can avoid getting this teacher its best but if not, go to SI and you will pass! Good luck!
Professor Kempe only grades the final. which may sound nice but really isn't, he tells you that he is getting his stuff from the book but really isn't. you take 3 exams through the semester that doesn't count towards your grade. he makes his lectures very long and has a monotone voice (so don't take his class in the mornings or late nights)
Lectures are somewhat confusing. It is best to go to SI sessions totally recommend. I stopped going to his classes and instead went to the sessions helped a lot. Make some kind of group chat with classmates totally helps! Tests were on Cengage (mind tap) instead of canvas. The final are basically the practice tests.
Grades on only 4 Mindtap exams, you have to teach yourself and he complains about people not asking questions every session. One practice exam answer didn't match the actual exam answer and he's not going to fix it. Inconsistent with the syllabus, says do chapters 1-8, syllabus says 1-6, now we've suddenly skipped to 10 though syl includes 9.
Professor Kempe didn't really like technology, so he never had a powerpoint lecture in class, so it was basically impossible to take notes. He just read from the book. The tests are just the practice tests reworded, so if you complete the practice tests you should do fine. For the most part the class just used the groupchat after class to help.
I missed an exam because I couldn't get on the website he used for them, and I emailed him twice about it asking if there was any way I could take it, no response at all. Dropped my grade from a mid to high C down to a F. AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COSTS. He doesn't lecture much, you are required to read the textbook thoroughly, avoid this course.
After reading all the other ratings, I understand how bad this professor is. Im in the in-person class and after the first three weeks I havent learned a thing. He just asks if we have any questions and goes on rambling about the question. Sometimes he doesnt even talk about the question.
Please don't take this professor if you actually want to learn anything. Drop it while you can. He doesn't lecture or teach at all, he just asks you every class if you have any questions. You have to learn everything on your own through the textbook. I wish I had dropped
Do NOT take professor Kempe. Worst teacher I have ever had by far. He doesn't lecture at all. Makes you read and ask questions and most of the time isn't helpful when you ask. Then proceeds to get upset at the class when you don't know an answer from the study guide. I do not want you to take this and avoid at all costs. I wish I had dropped.
The WORST professor I have ever had. We spend 3 weeks retaking the first test because he messed up on the grading 2 times. The third time we took test #1 he ended up dropping the test altogether. A week later we were forced to take test #2 even though we only had about a week to study 6 chapters of material. Needless to say everyone did bad on it.
This professor gave us 4 exams so far and has only counted one of them. The first one he graded with the wrong scantron. The second one he just did not count, we never got a reasoning. Third he has been back and fourth on his reasoning for canceling. He doesn't assign any homework, just exams. His "lectures" he asks you what you want to know about
Kempe is the worst professor iv'e ever had. He does not have any system to access grades so we have to wait for transcripts to be release to know our final grades. This semester, he made us retake the same exam 3 times and ended up discarding the exam in the end. His lectures are no help at all. He only asks us "what do you want to know?".
