This class is pretty brutal. She assigned a 1,500 word essay where you were assigned a role in Congress and had to write a paper as if you were in their position and what their views would be a week and a half before our first exam and it was due on the exam date. Also just kind of rambles on about random stuff. Class is once a week but is also on.
Lectures don't align with the textbook. Gives reviews before the tests but still makes test extremely specific, so they don't help much. Assigned a 1500 word essay and made the due date the same day as the first exam. Tough grader.
A 1,500 word memo was assigned for a Government role we received. She"encourages"to take the role seriously. She is terrible and vague at providing instructions. Then grades hard and against going above and beyond required basic template(sample) provided to us. She also rambles on about random things at times. Exam aren't close to the book/lectures
I took this class as a blended class so we only see her once a week, during that time she hardly lectures over test material. Her test are actually hard even if you memorize every work of the review and watch her online lectures, were not sure where she gets these questions from. Also never used the book except occasionally to look up definitions.
Would not recommend taking her. A 1500 word "policy memo" was made due the same day as the first exam. Class is pretty lecture heavy, and she's pretty energetic so it keeps students engaged. The lectures don't match up with the exams at all though. Exams are super hard even if you fill out and study the entire study guide
Great class! Would definitely take again. Professor that cares for you as more than just a filler in a classroom. Love lectures!
Prof. Lena Denman is by far one of the best professors I have ever had! She is cares about her students and wants to see them excel! I would absolutely take any class she teaches again. Her lectures are well laid out and the study guides are very helpful. If you use both her lecture slides and the study guide you will easily pass her exams!
The quizzes in class rather than online were fun. There's lots of review which helped my score in class. I met with her in her office and went over my study guide. After that my test scores went up. She's helpful and I really like that I can do extra credit to improve my grade.
Really nice professor if you are diligent she will help you with everything. always go to office hours before exams for help. really enjoyable class. exam reviews are VERY helpful
I LOVE LENA LET ME TELL YOU she is so nice and WANTS you to get an A. gives really awesome test reviews and is so helpful if you go in before exams. I wish she was my prof for everything. 3 extra credit opportunities but i got an A without them. take her for stress free A's
Do not take! Lectures have nothing to do with what your tested on. Had to read the book and find definitions to understand the class. She was gone a lot and we had a sub all the time. It made the class even more confusing.
There is a lot of extra credit (which is a pain in the ass) but if you do it you'll be good, The Quizzes are Kahoots (so 200 points Are just given to You). The tests are very similar to the study guide. (if you need me ill be glad to sell it to you for a few bucks). She is very lenient on the essays (almost everyone got A and a lot gotta 100).
Tests almost exactly like the reviews so make sure you do the study guide. Test questions come from lecture and videos shown to class. Book helps at beginning of semester but ends up being pointless until told to use on study guide. Class provides important points/test info in lecture so show up to make A. E.C. is abundant and will help your grade
I really liked being in her class. Although she skips around in lectures and doesnt always finish notes, theyre all online. She gives you a study guide before every test and lots of extra credit. She will also stress certain things that will be on the test. Shes a prof who actually worked in the government field so she really knows her stuff.
Gives reviews just like the test. Test reviews are on quizlet. Final is based on all of the test put together. 2 essays which are super easy. TAKE HER!
I highly recommend Professor Denman. Pretty easy class and she gives a lot of extra credit.
I loved this class! She knows her stuff. Finals are questions from previous tests so I got an easy A.
Professor Denman really does care for her students and does everything she can to make sure that everyone will receive a good grade such as handing out a lot of extra credit. If you never understand something she is easy to access and wants to help you and wants you to do well. Just show up to class and you get quiz points. Really easy to get an A.
Deserves to have a way higher rating. Professor Denman cares a lot about her students and will help you if you are willing to make the effort and help yourself. Visit during office hours, take good notes in class and actually show up to class if you care enough to do well and buying the textbook is advanced since definitions on test
People only complain because they had to write one essay in the beggining of the semester which is nothing, so easy and an easy A. You get to submit a draft first so no excuses. Ended with an 85 and my extra credit jumped me to an A. I had 70 extra credit points so make sure you take advantage of it.
Great professor! Some tough assignments but provides rubrics that are easy to follow! Very nice and responsive to emails. Will work with you to help you. Overall great. would recommend.
Lena is a great professor. She is always available during her office hours and is quick to reply to emails. Lena gives plenty of extra credit opportunities, but you have to work for it. She is also willing to listen if you have problems not related to govt. I took her American and TX govt classes. Definitely recommend taking her classes.
Gives a ton of extra credit because no one seems to be able to achieve an A without it. Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing. Review questions are all on quizlet so a pretty easy study. Lecctures were boring and always got off track.
I loved this class! Professor Denman gives great book recommendations and constantly is ready to help you understand current events. I learned a lot and I dont typically like Government classes. The extra credit is there because the course is not a breeze. You can get an A but it takes work. Its worth it though! So stupid to complain about EC!
Kahoot quizzes are easy points and usually have a short funny video with them. Learning about North Korea while seeing progress towards peace there was super cool.
Prof Denman is a great choice for Govt 2305 or 2306. She will take care of you as long as youre putting in effort. Go to class for easy quiz grades and make sure to put in the time to do essays and study for tests. As long as youre prepared, the class should be easy. Plenty of extra credit opportunities available throughout the semester too.
I took Denman for Govt 2305. She was okay. She talked all of class, had powerpoints(which helped me a lot) and took attendance. We had 4 tests throughout the semester. There are study guides but they are not word for word. Would recommend if you can keep up with her fast-paced class.
Professor Denman is awesome. Her classes are always informative and she does a great job of giving many more educational resources outside of the text. She is very friendly, and is available outside of class 9 times out of 10. She also gives ample extra credit opportunities. I definitely recommend taking her as I am for the next Government cour
Professor Denman gives points for online quizzes taken and gives lots of extra credit. I thought she was funny. I learned a lot about Texas in her class and thats saying something since I was raised in this state.
She is cool, pretty chill, shows movies sometimes.
Professor Denman is an amazing teacher and person and extremely knowledgeable about government. You can learn a lot from her if you will ask her questions, which she loves for you to do. I took her GOVT 2305 for Summer I and loved it. Her lectures are very interesting. She is very understanding and patient if she knows you're trying your best.
It was a pleasure taking Professor Denman's class over the summer. Give yourself plenty of time to read the chapter, listen to the lecture, and take the quiz every day. I would suggest doing InQuizitive and other materials to get that A+. It wasn't part of our required lesson, but it helps understand the material better.
VERY VERY HARD. She gives reviews for the test, and the review is nothing like the actual test. She also repeats the same questions on the test over and over, therefore if you don't know it the first time you're outta luck. She does give extra credit, but just because she has to in order for many students to pass. DONT TAKE.
She passes out study guides and answer keys. All the quizzes are participation based so show up and get the grade. The class isnt a breeze but I learned a lot and got my A.
If you are even remotely a normal student you will do perfectly fine in this class. She gives review guides and sometimes the answers to them. They are very manageable tests as there are quizlets online for these. If you show up to class every day at least 20% of your grade is already a 100. only 2 papers are graded. very obtainable A with effort.
I couldn't believe there was so much extra credit offered in this class. Quizzes are kahoots in class. The tests have answer keys. She gives you both! Take this class! She's sweet and understanding if you need to be absent.
Lena Denman is just not a professor you want to take if you're trying to succeed. She gets confused during her own lectures, and gets all of her classes mixed up. She once changed an exam date without informing our class and we still all had to test that day unprepared.
I would not recommend professor Denman. She is a nice person, but her tests are hard even when she gives a review. I studied for a test for 10 hours once and received a 68! She had to give a lot of extra credit so that we would pass the class. She also gave no review or help on the final. I went to her office hours and received very little help.
I just took my final with her today. I reviewed the four previous exams with her in her office and got an A on my final cause she graded it right away. Just put in some effort and get your grade. I signed up for her again in the Spring.
Do your reading and come to lectures. Professor Denman posts her power points online, test reviews. There are four tests and a final made up of previous test questions. All the reviews and answer keys for the reviews are available on the class website. The extra credit tipped me over to get an "A."
Don't take her, the reviews are very misleading. She tells you the way to pass her class is to read but even when I read I couldn't pass. She eventually had to give us a large amount of extra credit just so we wouldn't pass. If a professor has do that, maybe that's a sign they need to be more helpful about what is going to be on the test.
Professor Denman is awesome and caring! She is willing to spend extra time and unconditional support to help you review for exams and papers. Two of the lowest paper grades are dropped. Quizzes are usually video clips that are inspirational. She also provides study guides AND ANSWERS. Tons of extra credit offered. Overall, really recommend her.
Professor Denman expects you to put effort into her course, but I learned a lot from it. There are two papers that are dropped. Essays are only 500 words. The extra credit is there to help struggling students, but I got an A in the class without doing any.
Denman was all over the place and always got her classes mixed up. She gives out reviews for the test but you NEED to read the book on top of doing the review. STUDY STUDY STUDY for her test. A LOT of reading so get ready. You have one major paper you write then you have to present it to the class. Do NOT procrastinate in this class!!
This class isnt that hard if you read. Yes, the tests are not word for word what is on the study guide, but if you learn the concepts you will do fine. I took Government with another professor prior to Denman and I had to drop. I made it through her class and got an A. If I can do it, so can you. The extra credit helped when I had to miss a quiz.
I loved the movies shown in class. I didn't know much about Russia, but learning about it at the end of class was cool. Kahoots are quizzes. Show up and get those points. Pretty easy class.
Lena Denman is by far the best professor I had this semester. She is helpful and caring and gives a lot of extra credit. Literally all you have to do is show up to class, listen to the lectures, study the reviews she gives you, and you will definitely pass. If you put in the effort and do the extra credit, theres no way you can fail. I loved her!
Anyone who gives her a bad review probably didnt try at all. Show up & do the work she asks for and it will be impossible to fail. She offered up to like 100 points of extra credit and is easily accessible outside of class. She has one paper, but its so easy if you just follow the guideline. Love her!!
her class was okay, its not fun. she speeds through lecture but gives out a test review with answers. DON'T RELY ON IT! They don't even prepare you for the test. I do love how much extra credit she gave out. If you struggle in the class, there are more than enough opportunities to bump your grade up. Not a bad class but not the best.
Professor Denman is a saint when it comes to EXTRA CREDIT. However, some of the extra credit does require extra effort, but it is totally worth it!
her reviews don't cover everything on the tests, failed the first two and only made Bs on the tests once i memorized a lot more from the chapters. had about 200 note cards for each tests memorized and the highest i made was an 84, that being said its possible to make higher, i just cant retain that much info lol. get the book & go to class lmao ew
attendance counts as quiz points slides dont help reviews suck so make sure to memorize those and the vocab from the book get the older edition of the book on amazon its really cheap, content is the same the chapter numbers are just different TAKE WOODARD IF YOU CAN! avoid Denman if ur not a liberal you'll just get annoyed
Mrs. Denmans class taught me a ton. I dont consider myself part of a particular party, but shes quick to point out the problems with both parties. I liked learning about the Constitution and what presidents can and cannot do. Take her class for lots of extra credit!
I love thats she gives extra credit! The exams have answer keys available online if you look for them. She shows films at times. For current events we studied North Korea. Shes passionate and knowledgeable.
Prof. Denman is the best professor i have ever had. all she wants you to do is pass as well as make class fun. that said, i also learned so much from this class and became very engaged. there is a ton of extra credit that you would be foolish not to do. i am even a pre nursing major and this was still my favorite class.
Took her online winter mini, worst decision ever. Discussion posts everyday that have literally no grading criteria, she handed out 33% to half the class within the first three that were due. Two 1,000 word essays, lectures were very boring, forced to buy the textbook inquisitive that only counts for attendance. Save your money and Christmas break
I loved her as a professor. I would definitely take her again if I could. Her quizzes are Kahoots, and if you do the Kahoot you get a 100. She says that you need the text book but you really don't need it. Her test reviews are a good outline of the tests so do them and you'll make at least a B. There's also LOTS of extra credit, so do that too.
I loved having Professor Denman. She left in the end of the year to have her baby but the time we had with her was wonderful. You do have to do a model diplomacy project which is very tedious, but helps your grade if you follow the criteria. She made class enjoyable.
She is a nice lady, but her class was very frustrating. In general, the government classes at Blinn are usually not that challenging and she was almost trying to make a point that it should be difficult. Tests and papers are way more challenging than necessary. Take Woodard or Hicks if at all possible.
She's a great teacher, this is my second time taking her. However, the textbook is utterly unnecessary for her course. Show up, pay attention, take notes, do the study guide. She does attendance quizzes. Some extra credit available. Overall it's not a hard course, it's just full of a lot of content you need to memorize and know how to apply it.
Great prof with very interesting lectures! Gives you a study guide for her 4 exams, has pop quizzes so attend class, and has 4 writing assignments but the lowest 2 are dropped. Also gives out extra credit points. Tells her students they need the textbook but I did not use it; should be your personal choice. No HW.
I found this class to be incredibly frustrating. She was condescending and her grading criteria was unclear. There were study guides for the exams, but about 20% of the test questions are stuff she never talked about in class. Lots of memorization is expected of you.
I took this class in the summer and it was extremely overwhelming. I would spend up to 12 hrs a day just trying to finish the assignments. I was burnt out at the end of it. It really wasn't hard, it was just way too much. There were times where she didn't respond to my email and I had to resent them. I used the book but I could've gone without it.
She's a nice lady, but a little condescending at times. This is one of those classes that's needlessly difficult. The test are very detail-oriented and the study guides don't really coincide with the actual test. The extra credit is a combination of online games and actually having to drive out of town to various museums. Reading is optional.
The study guide helped me with what was on the exam. I went to her office and went over the study guide with her and that helped a lot. There is half a test worth of extra credit. The George HW Museum is in town and free to go to for extra credit. The online games are easy and fun. I had to read the book in order to do well on my second test.
Class was a breeze. The weekly discussion posts are hard. Weekly 10 question quizzes (all on quizlet). 2 research papers (only 500 words). My ONLY complaint is that the final is proctored, so after not taking any notes I was left with nothing to study and failed the final. So my advice: get the quiz questions as you take them and study those.
I would not have even come close to passing this test had I not done all of the extra credit. Driving to Austin sucked :'( Do the study guides and memorize everything you can. The book is not helpful, don't bother with it. Test were very hard, the questions are designed to be specific and tricky. Professor is nice though, so there's that!
I took the online course. The video lectures are at least three years old. There is a ton of work that is assigned. A lot of the quiz and test questions are not covered in the book/lectures and the questions are designed to trick you. Class is mostly memorizing facts and dates. Mrs. Denman seems nice enough but I wouldn't recommend this class.
I needed to do assignments after the deadline since my grandmas funeral hit, so she reopened them for me. The class information is much more interesting than my high school government class. The discussion posts are easy, just write at least a paragraph rather than a single sentence. This class is a core class so everyone takes it for credit.
Mrs. Denman was absolutely TERRIBLE. During her lectures in class, she was ALWAYS rushing and never taught the class anything. Make sure your put academic sources in your RS papers or she will have a fit. If you want to learn government, DO NOT take her. She is very illiterate and unclear about what shes teaching her students.
If Denman sent at most 4 emails through all of COVID. She kept videos/slides locked and would unlock them w/out letting us know. 0 COMMUNICATION!! Her essay topics are terrible and finding ACADEMIC SOURCES for them was nearly impossible. Study guides don't coincide with her tests at all. STUDY CONSTITUTION ARTICLES! It will be the HARDEST test.
I really enjoyed Professor Denmans class. The videos helped me learn parts of Government I hadnt thought about before. I missed my final and she reopened it for me. Id take her again easily.
Professor Denman has discussion posts and quizzes in the online class, two research papers and a final. I tried taking government face to face, but the secret is its way easier online. The only exam we had was the final and I had an A going into it. She also makes sure you have extra credit chances.
Class was okay. quizzes on Quizlet. Hard to find sources for her research papers. She graded them rather easy I think. Final exam was hard not the same as all the quiz questions. No study guide or anything given for the final the only test in her class
Denmans online class is pretty easy. Discussion posts had to be just a few sentences long and I barely used the textbook until prepping for the final. She let me turn in my paper late even though the syllabus says she wont. Quizzes on quizlet. Pretty easy!
Ha. this teacher was not it. please do not take her. she claimed you need the textbook, but you absolutely don't. her teaching was weird. she would have powerpoints, but she would never have the definition or description on the slides, ONLY the vocab or whatever, then she'll elaborate and you're like "what do I write?" her teaching was just MESSY!
She is a good professor. Her lectures were not helpful to me. Only two papers and they needed to only be 500 words min. The discussion post only need to be a couple of sentences long, just make sure you put textbook and lecture material in them and you will get a 100 on them. Quizes are all on quizlet. The Final was not like the quizzes.
Quizzes are on quizlet. A lot of the vocab in the lectures are on the quizzes. Final is publisher material she says, so more studying of quizlet. Careful, tho, the final is watched with Honorlock. No notes during the final exam.
Prof Denman was amazing! Tests were super easy. Study the review and your lecture notes and you are guaranteed an A. If you take well-written notes during lectures you will be fine. 4 Research essays, but she drops 2 and is a fairly easy grader. Quizzes are participation grades, and she offers lots of easy extra credit to boost your grade.
She's a good Professor even though we disagreed on a lot of things but she is still a very great professor. Lastly all her test are on quizlit
If you come to class, you will pass. Test were fairly easy, and so was the class. Listen to her lectures because the PowerPoints doesn't give all the information about the tests. Responds to emails and is very understanding!
I liked that Professor Denman was willing to let me turn in my paper late. She also reopened a test for me. If you do your work, you will pass. She is super kind and passionate. You wont be bored in this class!
Professor Denman was fairly easy. She makes it clear what she wants and expects from you, the work isn't too much it's the same every week. Two research papers you need to do on your own, we don't get class time for them but they're not hard. She grades quickly and fairly. The final is comprehensive over everything we went over in class.
We had two research paper assignments instead of tests and then a final exam. Weekly work is consistent, easy to do, and easy to keep up with. She doesn't give any feedback and if she does it is the same response she sends anyone who didn't make an 100. However, she grades very quickly and is clear about her expectations in the class.
Breezy class. Tests are multiple choice. Research papers are easy. Gives extra credit.
I took her summer class. It is super important to read the textbook because majority of the exam questions came from it. The classwork was easy and she was generous when it came to grading the essays. However, the final exam was extremely difficult and we did not recieve a review for it. I do not remember the questions being taught in class.
I took a 4 week summer course and it was easy. One quiz and one discussion post every day, 2 research assignments, and a final exam. That's all. She uses 2 research papers instead of tests and doesn't grade hard at all. All the homework is easy, but make sure to take notes from the lectures and not powerpoints. The final is 100 questions off notes.
good teacher who cares and test aren't very difficult. Would recommend for American government teacher.
Her lectures were pretty intresting to me. All the tests are honor locked and taken at home. In my course, we had 4 essays and our top two were kept so if you did good you only had to write two and she has a really easy president quiz for extra credit that counts as half of a test grade!
Great professor overall. She is extremely organized. I took her winter mini and she made it very easy to manage. Great information and content too. It was never boring. If you have a chance to take her definitely do so!!
I took this class as an 8-week course. She was good, I would definitely study for the test. There's 1 chance for extra credit, do it! There are 4 tests, 4 research essays, but the 2 lowest essays get dropped. There's a lot of inquizitives, which take a while, but it's an easy 100. She is super nice and likes participation.
This a very lecture heavy class but the work outside of class is simple. There are multiple papers you will have to write but she drops your lowest 2 papers and lowest exam score. She is a fair grader, gives notes back on your papers, and makes the directions very clear.
Denman was a good professor. The book is not necessary. Make sure you take good notes during lectures. Tests are honor locked, and fairly difficult, so definitely study. She does provide review sheets. There was a little bit of homework that you had to complete, but it was not too bad. I would recommend, just make sure you study.
Mrs. Denman definitely knows what she is talking about. She is extremely skilled in her knowledge of government and her lectures were always soooo interesting and fun. She is very kind and understanding. There is a bit of homework but she lets you use the book and she has a clear review for her test.
I took a blended course so all the homework and test were online. Make sure you study for the test and do the review or you will fail. The questions on the test are very specific. But overall I enjoyed having her as a professor and would recommend her.
Quizzes are all Inquizitives. Discussions posts are easy points to pick up. You really only have three things that amount to actual work. The 2 papers & the final. I had max points on all quizzes and discussions to where I only had to get a 32 on the final to get an A for the class. You can read the book for the quizzes or just look up the answer.
I took this class this summer II, and Professor Denman was an amazing professor! Her coursework is very easy and very manageable. There were only 2 papers and a final that counted more as a major grade, and they were all easy, which makes the learning criteria in this fast of course a lot more helpful. I highly recommend taking her for this class!
If you plan on taking her blended class, be ready to teach yourself. I am not sure if its just my class, or me, but I genuinely get very little pertaining to the course from the class time itself. She is a decent enough professor, and the course itself is not bad, but the combination of her teaching style and a blended class simply does not work.
Professor Denman is super caring and a great teacher! If you put in the work, do the study guide reviews, and go talk to her and get feedback before submitting your essays you'll do good!
As an online class, this course required very little effort each day. There was a short quiz and discussion post due each night that took less than an hour to complete, 2 research papers, and the final. The papers only need to be 500 words each and have a clear grading rubric. The final is just like her review. Do the extra credit! Easy A.
I took Professor Denman's class as a May minimester and a first class it was a great way to ease into dual credit! Her work is easy and very manageable and there were only 2 writing assignments! I enjoyed this class and would highly recommend it!
Denman is a great person and has her own foundation. I took her as an 8 week gov. class, 2305. There are 4 essays/5 exams (she drops the 2 lowest essay scores). The exams are somewhat difficult, the study guides are wordy, and the lecture slides don't have much info, but she lectures wonderfully. I would take her again as a 16 week class!
Ms. Denman will not respond to emails you send. When grading discussion posts you will either receive a 100 or an 83.33 with a copy paste response with your name put in. One of my essays she literally gave me no feedback at all. I somehow passed the class but I don't remember at all what was covered. If you value your learning do not take.
I did her 4-week Winter minimester for dual credit and it was possibly the easiest class I've ever done, just do your work and reading and you are fine. All the online lectures she included were from 2020 so I substituted the book, which was very helpful. Also, do not try emailing her; she will respond after whatever your asking about is due.
Online dual credit kids - Lectures are long but insightful. Do the extra credit. Don't bother emailing her because she never responds. Do the inquizitives early because if you miss one you can't make it up. Her grading rubic for papers is helpful but still vague. Idk what a peer reviewed journal is but she's heavy about those in papers.
I wouldn't take her as an 8 week class. Her lectures are great but unless you have time to study the textbook and watch the videos she posts the test can be very difficult. She's not a tough grader when it comes to the essays as long as you follow her requirements. But she does give extra credit.
Mrs. Denman was such a good professor! All the exams were online and she gave out extra credit. She responded quickly at emails and was super passionate about her lectures. I would recommend her class 10/10!!
Lena Denman is the most unresponsive and careless instructor I have ever had. Maybe since it is a summer course, she's impossible to get into contact with since she never replies to emails. When she does, it is way past the time you needed it, making whatever she replies with completely useless. It is hard to excuse this sort of behavior. Avoid.
Loved Prof Denman, she was a great teacher, only thing I never cared for was at the beginning of every class she had us talk about current events. I understand it's important but I just wanted to hear the lessons so I could be prepared for exams. Still, I loved her personality and at the end of the semester I was honestly so interested in the class
Does not respond to emails. She also does not include all of the information about assignments and expectations in the syllabus.
Professor Denman's GOVT2305 class was a great experience. With manageable coursework, helpful lectures, and resources like unstuck study, the class was engaging and straightforward. Putting in the work paid off in a solid grade.
i had her for an online class so it may be different for in person but she was genuinely so difficult. we would have online discussions as a big part of our grade and it was nearly impossible to get a 100 for any of them. No matter the quality of your post, she would make up a bs excuse for why you get a B on the post. Besides that, workload's fine
