Very helpful Professor...Take him.
HE's good, nice, clear, easy, laid back.. and so is all the work. deff cant hurt to take him.
Honestly, I am not very strong in any science class but he definitely made things easier! He tries to help you as much as he can. Take him if you can and remember the answer to his Multiple Questions is always E) Don't Care! "Chem is all about Stuff and Things!"
Hot guy but really lazy... Doesn't explain anythin in lab or recitation... Wants his kids to do good for sum reason...but not very helpful...
Very helpful and he knows his stuff. His quizzes are a little difficult but if you study, they'll help you on the lecture tests. Definitely take him, his class is fun.
i had him for lab and recitation. he's a pretty cool guy but his jokes can b lame sometimes. his quizzes r fair and he make chem interestin. He's also very helpful so ask him whatever questions u have. He grades fair too.
He is very smart guy who is willing to help if you ask. The recitation is not too helpful but that is not his fault. He will answer questions clearly. He is a tough guy on the labs, but as he says, it pays off in the long run. He will help if you are havig a specific problem. I would definitely take him again. (Speaks clear English this is a plus
I do not know where to begin here. He is a bit conceited, and once and for all must understand that he has not yet achieved anything and therefore is unimportant. He is a total waste of time and tuition. All he does is kiss Howell's a$$. Obviously, has no mind of his own, complete follower. Should learn how to teach students chemistry rather than m
is very helpful in lab and wants his students to do well. his quizzes were a little tricky, though
Way too laid back. Not really helpful. No mercy. If you have a combination of Metlitsky and Howell, I feel sorry for you dude ! Seriously
he's great. really helps his students, can be tough but it really pays off, you do well. he's really nice and helpful if you ask for it, but he is busy alot. not difficult, the subject is and he makes it understandable.
One of the few teachers in the chem dept who helps the students actually understand the material and do well. Orgo is one of those classes where you need to dedicate a LOT of time and he definately helps you.
very helpful
Possibly one of the best professors I've ever had in my college career. Extremely helpful and understanding. He wants all of his students to do well. Very good at explaining everything. The first time I took chem (at my school) I had to drop it, Metlitsky made it so much easier to understand all the stuff I didn't get the first time around.
I would seriously recommend Metlitsky. He really wants you to do well. He will give you every point possible on a test (the extra credit is a joke). He makes a hard subject a bit easier. (Doing the work is heavily advised.) On the downside he doesn't have so much patience for questions in class. But you can ask him anything afterwards.
Really wants you to do well. His class is difficult, but if you work hard you'll do pretty well. He makes an effort to give extra credit on his tests. He always made class really enjoyable and fun, and made me laugh during chemistry! Even though I was never that into chemistry, I loved this class and highly recommend him. Great Professor!!
His quizes are extremely hard,, its like u start reading and it`s all in french..u can solve all the homework problems and still fail his quiz,, he finds problems for his quizes from some other chem books..
He really prepares you for the lecture exams. His quizzes are tough but they make you study like never before, which is necessary for this class. I'm very thankful for his time and efforts; he's always available during office hours to help. W/o his influence I wouldn't have mastered orgo w/ an A+. Take him if you truly want to learn. It's possible.
Academic boot-camp!!!
Super difficult, funny, and hott!!!
Great teacher doesnt use howells slides always goes on the board which helps. If he got rid of the slides and taught on the board would be good too. No orgo class is going to be easy so wasnt expecting it to be a joke. Overall pretty satisfied
wowee I dont know whats scarier orgo or metlitsky but then i realized its the stupid system at BC: its not normal to have a 40 average and 90% dropout. anyways hes a good guy. dont be stupid and DO HW BOOK PROBLEMS and dont rely only on howells tests!!! btw chap 16 sux so start cursing it now!! other than that dont forget to pray and good luck!!!!
ok heres the deal his questions on quizess are harder than howell no joke. however i guess they open ur eyes to how you can never be sure you know everything for orgo theres always some question which will stump you and make you say "unfair"! He know his stuff but to stay away from bootcamp attitude, you must get on his good sideby gettinggoodgrad
His exams r quizes are so hard not even close to howells. but he teaches u real good n he pressures u to study which is really good.he has a lil attitude but he's a good guy. office hour helps tremendously. hard but great proff...

By far the best recitation. Cares about students and wants them to do well. he is a little tough but def worth taking his class. He is also a very nice guy.
Very nice guy and grades fairly.Tests for core chem are simple.
Nice guy but a bit conceited. His tests are tricky so watch out, but he does curve sometimes.
Core chemistry. Any ratings that say he is a bad teacher, they are WRONG. he is an amazing teacher and is very helpful and easy to understand. He is easy to stay awake on because he is sarcastic which is funny and he makes the work very interesting. I have him now and I am going to find his other classes!
I wish there were more professors like that!
He is the best organic chem prof Brooklyn college has. Like others, he doesn't rely on slides and just reading. He actually teaches and shows how to solve a problem. I couldn't have survived orgo if I didn't have him as the professor. Plus he is very funny and very helpful.
While he isn't a bad teacher he isn't great either. Like many CORE teachers he only goes over the textbook which can get very boring. But he keeps it relatively interesting and is very good at explaining ideas and the math behind it. However, in a class of 100+ you don't get individual attention so get to know the people in class who understand it.
This guy knows his stuff, but if your in a lecture hall of more than 60, RUN AWAY. For those of us that have never taken Chemistry or haven't taken it since HS this is no breeze. He is sarcastic, which at times is funny, but when only 4-10 people pass the midterm out of 160 enrolled students there's nothing funny at all.
THE MOST INTELLIGENT MAN I KNOW.
Quite difficult, but the subject is very important for entry to various grad schools, so if you want to learn orgo the right way, take him. He actually gives a damn about students and wants them to succeed, and has no tolerance for slackers. His expertise of chemistry (general, biochem, orgo, physical, etc.) is evident in his systematic lectures.
take him if you are interested in truly learning and understanding any chemistry course on a deep conceptual level. He demands a lot and you will have to work extremely hard. However,he merely demands the level of work required to really understand the material and EXCEL later on in medical school, not just maybe get in and survive.
One of the Worst INSTRUCTORS ever. He is not even a professor. Merely an instructor. A very BAD ONE AT THAT. I am reading other peoples comments and there crazy. not only is the class very hard but this man cant teach.intro to chem and the first day he thinks we know the periodic table. he assumes everyone know as much Chem as he does. thats silly
very hard
Med school won't care when you wine that the material is too much/hard.Metlitsky demands a ton but it is what you need to succeed.I had NO math or science background and only succeeded because he pushed me harder than I ever had been.Do what he says and you are gauranteed to succeed in undergrad and beyond.
I had a choice between core Biology and core Chemistry. After the first quarter of the semester in his Chemistry class, this professor inspired me to work hard in all of my other science courses. I have never been a better student, learner and I thank him for it. So thanks.
This man is brilliantly intelligent, not to mention good looking. He is tough, but he will change the way you think and your outlook on life. He truly is wonderful. He makes you realize that there is always potential to obtain more knowledge in ways one would normally not thin of. He pushes even those that think they know it all! Love him!!!!!
AMAZING professor. He is one of those teachers that is strict but in a good way. He motivates everyone to do well and really knows a lot of material. VERY educated and intelligent. He is a pleasure to have as a teacher. You will learn a lot from him and enjoy his class. TAKE HIM!
He is not helpful at all. He just keeps talking about how hard it is to get into a medical school. He is not teaching anything.
Guys don't take him if you still have a chance!!
His classes were extremely helpful.
His tests are challenging but he is a great professor, explains everything very clear
His tests are hard but he is a great guy
i like the way he teach, he teach to learn. need to loose up a little but good
His story will transcend your motivational barrier until you are at the zenith of your potential, and then you'll stay there. Memorization and repetition will get you 7100th of the way, understanding the concept will get you the rest and Lenny'll make the latter happen. You'll have to work for it. #LearnFromTheBestOrDieTryin'
Metlitsky is one of a kind. His life goal is to help you learn what you need in order to succeed in your career goals. The way he teaches Chemistry is simply amazing. The problems he makes up challenge and make you think. Everyone taking Orgobiochem should consider his tutoring groups. If you have him for chem1 or 2 labrec, you're so lucky!!!!
I would not take him again.
He is rude and useless
If you want to be a sheep and throw money away for an easy A without learning, go elsewhere. If you want to be seriously challenged and given a top notch science education and actually learn, take metlitsky. Science will never be the same afterwards. You will work harder than you ever have, and you gain more than you ever could have.
Had him for recitationlab. I'll just describe & let you decide. He never explained any labs & proceeded to yell when we messed up. He was on his phone the entire time. During recitation, he would come in & would ask us if we had problems instead of going over material from lecture. When we didn't, he'd just stand there and rant. I dropped it.
BEST TUTOR EVER.
350 characters is not enough to describe Professor Metlitsky. He changed my life, and many others. He is not only my favorite professor but an inspiration to us all. He takes chemistry as it should be taken, seriously and with love and passion. The material may be tough but with Metlitsky its all made clear. Take him, it WILL change your life!
No other professor will have you care about learning as much as him. If you want to be a true professional, take him. The only time I've ever cared about actually learning was when I took him for orgo 1. Best decision of my life - no exaggeration. He's half the reason I'm majoring in freakin' chemistry of all the subjects.
Taking Prof. Metlitsky was the best decision I ever made in college. He's so brilliant and incredibly passionate about the knowledge that he will inspire you to be passionate about it too, and that A in the class will come as a byproduct of learning for the sake of learning (and for the mcat). I reached my maximum potential because of him.
When I first met Mr. Metlitsky in chem 2 I was a joke of a pre-med student. This man literally changed my life as a orgo 1 and 2 tutor and biochem 1 and 2 tutor. An amazing, passionate educator. Be prepared to work extremely hard, but it will all be worth it when you're making 500k doing surgeries saving lives.
So arrogant, he spends half of recitation talking about himself and how smart he is. He rants half the class. He quizzes you on things you haven't learned yet and that go way beyond the difficulty level of the class. Don't expect to do well. I wouldn't take him again.
honestly, he is the best teacher you will ever have. He supports his students and wants them to learn. He's very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. If you work hard and ask him questions, theres no way you wont get an A. People that gave him bad ratings probably didnt work hard and wanted an easy A. Take him if you want to learn.
Prof Metlitsky WILL change your life. He WILL make you fall in love with chemistry. And he WILL help you succeed! He may be a genius, but, unlike many profs at BC he knows how to teach to people who haven't had the level of exposure to such challenging concepts. He's a dream of a prof and of a person. The WORLD needs more people like him.
I wish all professors were like Metlitsky. Yes, his class is hard and you have to study your a-- off, but he will explain everything in a way that is totally understandable. Loved his lectures so much. Plus, he is young, very attractive and funny.
The most thorough and passionate prof I met so far in life. He is heavily experienced in teaching all pre-med required subjects. He looks like he does not sleep and dedicates all his waking hours to teaching students. If you want an easy A to pass, don't waste his or your time. His class isn't difficult but you have to put in work to learn.
I came in his class , knowing absolutely nothing and left with a wealth of knowledge. Professor Metlitsky is very passionate about Chemistry and he knows how to teach it well. You do have to work and study and don't miss any of his classes. He's a lot rough around the edges but he will explain it until you get it. He wants to you pass, just study!
Prof. Metlitsky is the best prof I have ever had in my life, & Brooklyn College is the 3rd school I've been to! Personally, if you just take good notes & listen and come to class every day you will be fine. I never read the textbook but I do go to him for extra help a lot. I failed orgo1 twice thinking I could never pass, and now I'm in the 90's!!
Arguably the best recitation instructor in the entire department. Work hard and you'll be rewarded.
One of the hardest professors I've taken, but it was worth it. he is very knowledgeable in chem and teaches it in a way that it makes sense. you have to study and work a lot to maintain a good average in this class. he really wants you to succeed. if you have the option to take him i def recommend
Professor Metlitisky IS the best profosser. He doesnt just show up to teach and leave, HE CARES for his students futures. He teaches you to love science and how to learn it a unique way. He goes above and beyond for his students. He may be a hard ass but hes a hard ass for positive reasons. TAKE HIM! If you truly love medicine youll understand why!
He'll scream at you for doing bad, he'll scream at you for doing good, he'll even scream at you for doing nothing! Just know that he screams at you because he actually cares about you and he will motivate you to work harder than you have ever worked before and if you follow his advice you will be successful in class and in the real world.
he is the best professor in the entire department, he truely cares about his students. he can really change your life if you are willing to learn science.
He's the best professor i ever took. I loved going to his class partly because I knew that the professor is genuinely interested in what he teaches. Professor Metlitsky will change the way you think of science. Don't procrastinate!! Do the homework and start studying for exams at least a week ahead of the test date and you'll do great.
would definitely take him again
He is an amazing professor and really gets u ready for your future medical career. He is tough but in a good way as he wants you to succeed. Anyone with a bad review for him doesn't get that he's pushing you to actually learn and understand important concepts and prepare to be a MD, pharmacist, DDS or whatever. 100% take him
This man is the most intense professor in Brooklyn College. I dont know if hes normally like this but this class was overwhelming to say the least. Anyways he definitely knows his stuff and is passionate about his work I just wished this class wasn't as overwhelming.
The subject itself is heavy and requires a lot of time. He wants you to be prepared for your choice of profession especially the medical ones. I bombed his first exam but he said do not let this destroy you for the rest of the semester. I studied harder and got better grades. Put in the effort and listen to his advice although he does ramble a bit.
He did not like orgo over the summer which made his attitude quite negative most of the semester. He is very knowledgeable but can have tantrums and did not give feedback for lab reports on time. Posted videos late w/ exam in 3 days (old videos). Great to take if pursuing a career in medicine. Had him before and this was not his best semester.
reading these reviews made me raise an eyebrow. im an A + student and taking his class was rough, unorganized, and just chaotic. too much info is thrown at you and he gets upset very easily. half of the class failed. dont take him.
He knows his material well, but he literally did not teach during his recitation class. His teaching is all over the place, and he gets mad quickly. He's probably a nice person, but his class was super chaotic. Quizzes tend to be hard or easy depending on the module. Grades lab reports months later.
Takes his time grading lab reports. His class is all over the place. Quizzes he will give back some points if your answer is close. Hard to ask questions during class, since he gets frustrated. I don't know why there are so many good reviews. He knows his chemistry and when he teaches, he teaches well. Teaches more during office hours than class.
I took professor Metlitsky for my first semester of chemistry and easily my favorite professor. He grades very fairly and most of the time gives you points that you might not even deserve as long as you show that you learned from your mistakes. If you need a lab professor you would be an absolute dummy to not take him. Helps understand everything.
Amazing Professor best prof that BC has!
This man changed my entire life. I was completely disillusioned with how science was presented and taught at Brooklyn College and was seriously considering dropping it before I had him. He brings all of the sciences - chemistry, biology, physics, etc. - to life using only his whiteboard and his mastery of all the elements. He is unlike any other.
You will learn. Deconstructs the most abstract topics to simple terms. You may not do well but you would be lying if you did not come out of that class a smarter person. He can be a but of a stick in the mud but I think thats just his true personality.
