Homework heavy. Plus I learned very little from her class. I mostly learned from reading the book. She refuses to post exams on blackboard, so you have to come to her office hours to pick up an exam, which I've never had happen before. Additionally, she takes FOREVER to grade exams. Seriously like 2-3 weeks. Never had that problem from another prof

I would never take her again, ever. The lectures are so confusing, so you basically have to read the entire book VERY CAREFULLY and teach yourself everything. In class, all you do are worksheets, and she is very hard to understand and it's difficult to follow along in class. DO NOT take this class unless you want to teach yourself Chem 105...

You either love her or despise her. She is unclear as to what material will be on the tests. She will post 'exam material' on Blackboard, but the tests very rarely follow accordingly. There is no Powerpoint, and you fill out confusing worksheets. Unfortunately she is the only Chem105 teacher. You may have better luck with an online course instead.

I have no clue why anyone likes her as a teacher. She's got a particular style of teaching and if it doesn't work for you then you're basically screwed and will end up having to teach yourself the entire class from the book. She's awful at explaining things so even though she's accessible outside of class she doesn't help much at all. AVOID!!!!

Right now, we have 3 weeks left in the semester, and she's so far behind in lectures because she goes off topic. So instead of doing anything rational, she is making us do homework on chapters we haven't even covered in class. And since we haven't gone over it in class yet, we have no clue how to do the homework. Her suggestion? Read the book. Yay!

She is my least favorite professor I have ever had. She goes off topic and the homework does not match up with the lectures. You need to go to class and sit up front because she only teaches to the front of the class. Go to reach and SI and read read read because her lectures are way too confusing

Dr. Hoyt was the worst professor I've taken. I took the honors class and compared to the other classes, hers was 100% the hardest. You have to really know chemistry in order to do well. She can be funny occasionally, but she isn't afraid to roast you in class. I'd honestly try to take a different professor if possible. I'm an A student but got a C.

Dr. Hoyt does not seem to care about the success of her students. She constantly berates students for misunderstandings and asking questions. The content of the course is not difficult if you have a few hours to studying daily because you will be teaching yourself the content. Her rambling lectures do not make sense and her handouts are not helpful

She has the ability to speak for an hour 15 minutes without actually saying any useful. We're currently online & she by far has been the worst at acclimating. We were notified of an exam 2 days before, with no lectures, fake exam questions to prevent cheating. It's obvious she doesn't care about her students and doesn't know how to do her job.

Lenore Hoyt is one of the most condescending and confusing professors I've had. The students who attended her lectures actually did worse than those who didn't, as the way she portrays content is disorganized. She never responds to emails, and is always "behind." Her exams are extremely difficult, even if you are good at chem and work diligently.

She has the amazing ability to give an hour and 15 minute lecture without teaching students anything useful. We once spent an entire lecture watching a water molecule bounce on a screen. No matter how hard you study, there's always something ridiculous on the exam. It's infuriating to attend this class and gain nothing from it.

Dr. Hoyt is horrible. I would say she is one of the worst chem professors on campus. She is incredibly rude when you go to her to ask questions even though she encourages that. She is not a good lecturer and most of the time she never covers the content that is on the test. She is horrible about communicating with students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Dr. Hoyt was by far one of the worst professors i have had throughout college. Dr. Hoyt does not post grades till the end of the semester, she does not post due dates, she sends you multiple emails a day with vague explanations, never responds to your emails because she's "behind" 24/7. Has no sympathy for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Hoyt is one of the worst professors I have had. She did not handle the COVID-19 situation well at all. She rarely responds to emails, and is constantly behind. It was weeks before an update was posted when we moved to online classes. The online tests have fake test questions so she can accuse you of cheating when you could have easily guessed.

I had Hoyt during COVID19 and she was horrible with that transition (announced an exam 2 days prior, fake exam questions to see who's cheating). But even before, her lectures were very unhelpful. For being a poor professor, she's also incredibly mean to her students (my friend teared up going to her office hours). Do not take!

I received an A so I am not complaining because of that, this class was just one of the worst experiences I've had with a teacher. We all basically taught ourselves. When we would ask for help, she took more time questioning how we dont know certain material than helping. This is a professor that truly tears you down.

Don't take Honors 201; it doesn't matter in the end. While I passed the first test with an A, I can't say that that grade came easily. Hoyt formats 201 as an inverted classroom, meaning that you are expected to read the chapters on your time as well as master the content with worksheets she provides you. Lecs are useless & a waste of time.

Dr. Hoyt does not lecture when she is suppose to be lecturing. Every class she asks us questions and answers them then entire time instead of taking 10 minutes to ask and answer. She does a horrible job organizing the OWL homework assignments. Her tests are all over the place and she is doesn't communicate well. So basically her class is awful!

Professor Hoyt is the worst, if not the worst Ive ever had. Emails wont be replied back to, questions wont be answered, and teaching definitely wont occur. You basically are teaching yourself organic chemistry while having someone belittle you the entire time. If you can take this somewhere else, do it

Horrible transition to online learning. Webcam on during tests then still accuses you of academic dishonesty? Can't even ask what you did wrong or to see on the video what she's accusing you of? She won't "discuss" it. Not to mention all the tests dont allow you to go back to earlier questions. If this were in person I'd be able to flip back.

She never taught the content then got mad when we emailed her about it. I asked her if we had a study guide and she said "the textbook" then I asked if there was something else and she told me to "find a different textbook" and then when I clarified that I don't learn by reading she said "oh no one learns by reading, not even kids who say they do"

Most frustrating class Ive had. Tests arent super difficult as long as you study. BUT Do NOT take if shes teaching it remotely, as her lectures dont help, only the book does. Dont expect much help clarifying much unless you have good classmates, honestly the only thing getting me through this year. I would avoid if you can afford it.

I say this with every breath in me, do not take her class. This was the most miserable experience I have ever had with a class and I took anatomy the semester prior. SO when I tell you it's bad, it's bad. Yeah you'll hear, "If you put in the work you will do good" but, this class isn't about putting in the work. You make it your whole life.

Dr. Hoyt is not a good instructor. This is a completely online class where a lot of her lecture time is spent by her trying to figure out how to work the tech. Even when she is actually teaching, it is very difficult to get clear answers. It is very difficult to get into contact with her through email and sometimes will never respond. Do not take.

this was the worst experience ive had with a professor. she literally told our class to not expect to pass. she put fake questions in our tests so if we even guessed and got one right she would give us a zero. for a 60 question test we were only given 50 mins. she is absolutely the worst professor at uofl. 12/10 do not recommend.

When you email her, she often claims she doesnt have time to help you and to look to the syllabus. First day of class she told us we will most likely fail. Unprofessional and unhelpful. Dr. Hoyts class was extremely difficult, especially as a freshman during a pandemic. Her lectures were rarely ever beneficial and we basically had to teach ourselves 3 chapters a week. She was also not very accommodating when students had a personal emergency. I would definitely recommend a very strong basic chemistry foundation for her class.

Dr. Hoyts class was very disorganized and difficult online. She was weeks behind in grading and getting back with students via email. Her lectures were very slow and all over the place, often jumping to chapters that werent on the upcoming test. Had it been in person, it might have been better but she was not very sympathetic in our situation.

The worst aspect of this class was the tests. Dr. Hoyt allowed 30 minutes to take the tests and we could not backtrack to any question. I felt like I was always worrying about the time limit and rushing to the end, making silly mistakes along the way. She does allow possible points back but they are often only very few. Not very caring of success.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She doesn't care about her students success. She did no lecturing so the class was basically self taught. I wanted to major in chemistry and I changed my mind all because of this lady. Luckily I took a lot of chem in high school so I did well in the class but she's awful for students who don't have prior knowledge.

She is BY FAR the worst professor EVER. She is disorganized and rude to students who ask questions. She treats lecture time as a Q&A session. This class is primarily self taught by reading 4-5 chapter a week and studying nonstop. She never responds to emails and has extremely hard tests that are only 30 minutes long. Overall she is unprofessional.

I did well in Dr. Hoyt's class, however she had little to do with that success. Lectures were not helpful, & she rarely replied to emails in a timely matter. The only reason why I performed well in this class was because of previous knowledge. If chem is your strong suit, by all means take her section, but if not, then I suggest another section.

Worse chem teacher I've ever had. She did not do lectures so you're basically teaching your self. I need it for credit so that's the only reason I'm taking it. AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS IF POSSIBLE. If you do, be prepared to do about 10 homework assignments for every class and oh yeah tests are nothing like she said they would be. Makes me hate chem.

This is my second time taking this class. Last semester I dropped it because there was no way I'd be able to pass and here I am struggling again. Lectures don't matter, she does not help with anything and rarely does she reply to emails. Very disorganized and expects her students to understand. If I could give her a 0 I would.

Dr. Hoyt knows how to study, so follow her study tips. Otherwise, ignore her. She's long-winded, confusing, and plays unnecessary mind games as a form of instruction. Students with disabilties do not feel welcome in her classroom.

She expects you to memorize a lot of things. Her class is very lecture heavy and the material she covers doesn't cover to the extent that it should. Her tests are also cumulative so if you mess up or miss one thing it could really push you behind. Her class overall is very dense. If you have any learning disabilities, you WILL suffer in her class.

This class alone caused me to lose multiple scholarships and significantly dropped my grade. I failed her class after spending 15+ hours minimum a week studying. This is the only class I have made below a B in. I'm pretty sure I know less chemistry than I did when I started this class. She does not teach but expects you to know a lot of content.

Lenore Hoyt was possibly the worst professor I have ever had. The first day of class she said, "I will see half of you in the spring." She has tests every two weeks and it is always a gamble of what will be on the tests. If you are going into nursing there is no avoiding her, so just be prepared to teach yourself chemistry. Sadly they are the only professor for this class. I would save yourself the trouble and figure out another way to take this course at a different school. The way she grades is horrible and limits you from being able to move through units. I had taken her spring(in person) and summer(online) classes, which were equally horrible.

Online materials are extremely disorganized and assignments are hard-to-follow, be prepared to have 20 different tabs open just to complete one set of daily tasks. Unfortunately she is the only professor for this class, so if you are required to take Chem 105, be prepared to not have any time for other classes.

She is a very sweet person but her class is a weed-out class for a reason. I would highly recommend taking this class at a community college before considering taking it with her. Her tests are impossible to pass without taking them 2 or more times. She is by far the worst teacher for any science class I have ever had and I am a sophmore.

I will warn you that this class has no lecture and does not consider you having other classes. You are expected to learn 1 chapter every week and take multiple tests every Wed. I spent 20+ hrs/week on her class alone. She is not helpful and acts like you are dumb when she is asked a question. I recommend taking this at a community college instead!!

Professor Hoyt was extremely unhelpful and rude and more or less incompetent at teaching. For the first half of the semester she did not teach AT ALL. When she finally did begin teaching, she was incapable of explaining things in a way that was easy to comprehend. Refused to answer questions and always unprepared for class. You'll teach yourself.

Lenore Hoyt is the type of teacher you take when there are no other options. Dr. Hoyt does not know how to teach, nor does she care to teach. She is firm believer that teaching isn't her job but instead the job of book that needs to be updated to help students of all kinds. Don't get her started with questions, she responds with rude comments.

She was overall just very unprepared for this class. She expressed that like first or second day of class that she didn't have a lot of things that she normally does already prepared, including the syllabus. Only taught through worksheets, which she never released answer keys, and never posted on the online systems that were for a grade. Not fun :(

Class was horrible. She did not teach. You are expected to learn everything on your own through the textbook and worksheets. She told us day one that most of us would fail. Definitely look for other options if possible.

Dr.Hoyt was overall an unhelpful professor. It was clear she didn't care about this class. You teach yourself all the content and take every test more than once, it's almost impossible to pass the first time. The grading system is insane, difficult to get an A without dedicating all your time to this class and this class only.

She was a terrible professor, the only way I got through the class was using the textbook, PAL sessions, and 4+ hours worth of study before every exam. Her grading criteria is crazy and you can't get in contact with her. She has us learn from videos that were from 2012-15 and nothing is taught directly.

Pt. 1 Do NOT take this class. Hoyt told us from day one that most of us would fail this class (how inspirational). She had nothing prepared for this class, and we didn't receive our syllabus until weeks into class. She misled many of us initially by acting like she was going to lecture and teach by going over worksheets and explaining things to us.

Pt. 2 However, after the add/drop date was passed, she never did that again. She also had us buy many materials for the class, which she didn't use. Also, she pushed on us that we needed the Student Solutions book only to find out she was one of the people who wrote it and was most likely receiving monetary pushback. Go ahead and take it at JCTC.

Professor Hoyt is honestly super nice. She really wants you to pass the class and seems like she cares, however it is extremely difficult to actually pass. The grading criteria is like no other. She never answers emails and if she does then she rarely gives a clear answer. Do not recommend taking and would avoid at all costs.

Dr. Hoyt is kind and knowledgeable, but she is not a good professor. She will ramble for the hour-long lectures without ever actually teaching. Her exam problems are designed to trip you up. The course is excessively difficult considering it's General Chemistry 1. I would recommend anyone else (though probably not Powe).

I took her CHEM 105 class and had to withdrawal. her classroom is flipped so you have to learn all the material by yourself with the online homework and textbook, and then take tests every Wednesday. If you get behind it is going to be really hard to catch up, so if you are taking her class I would suggest to keep up or drop.

First, I want to state that this professor is one of the worse professors of all time. There are tests every Wednesday on a new unit and if you fall behind it isn't easy to catch up. You learn on your own which is also not easy. Also, when I ask for her help she would look at me like I should know this which a teacher should never do.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE THIS CLASS AT JCTC! Her class is about 2 hours long, she doesn't teach you anything but have you do an assignment in class that has a time limit of 1 minute. You have to teach yourself at home through the textbook and come to class to take 3 exams every Wednesday. She makes everything more complicated than it needs to be.

took this during the summer and i strongly recommend not doing that. you teach yourself every thing because the professor had no lectures. extremely homework heavy, i couldnt even finish the units because of how much there was. expects you to get "really good" at something in maybe 4 days or less. this class me cry every single day.

Dr. Hoyt as a person seems very nice and caring. However, as a professor it was awful. The class was completely on you with 0 lectures and little to no help from the professor. You could try to email her but she will not reply. There are three tests every Wednesday with barely any time to prepare and a complete misunderstanding for what is on them.

It is often unclear what is going to be on the tests. I am a student who studied often, went to tutoring, and still failed. You have to know chemistry before to pass.

Professor Hoyt spends a majority of her lecture on extraneous discussions and analogies which do not further my learning or explain the material. I was required to get a subscription that is hardly used, syllabus and schedule were posted later than they should've and tests cover too much material. Overall, prepare to study by yourself to do well.

Dr. Hoyt's lectures aren't helpful. She doesn't teach at all during class. The readings are hard to completely understand and her test are hard. She sends out what to study but it's hard to study the right material for her class. Test are worth 75% of your grade and attendance is mandatory and affects the remaining part of your grade.

Barely teaches, exams every 2-3 weeks with little to no guidance on what will be on them. Her lectures are extremely unhelpful, and she expects to learn nearly everything on your own. The SLAS are helpful, but the REQUIRED recitation only covers 1 specific topic and is not helpful enough for you to not have to do immense studying on your own.

Does not teach in lecture but attendance matters. If you're taking her be ready to teach yourself material for exams. The exams feel impossible.

If you sign up for her class, be ready to teach yourself all of the content or go to every SLA session you can. 80% of her class is motivational speeches, 20% is actual chem content. She is somewhat nice, but she cannot teach. Nor can she organize her blackboard content. The Organic Chemistry Teacher is your actual professor.

The day before a test she posts 10 worksheets for review. Then says to look at a specific spot in blackboard for what to know on said test, nothing is there. Hoyt lectures on and on about often random things and hardly ever seriously teaches. She expects more from her students than what she does herself. The worst professor I've had in college.

i have no good things to say about her. she is extremely disorganized, she herself did not even know we were having a test until 2 days before because someone reminded her. did not list on blackboard what was going to be on the test until LATE AT NIGHT the day before test. so hard to prepare for the tests when you don't even know what to study.

Possibly the worst professor I've ever had. Lectures are just plotless rambling with random diagrams and simulations that don't apply to what is being discussed. You really have no way to track your grade. You can only go off if how well you do on tests, which you don't know until after you take the test after that. Syllabus is inconsistent aswell.

Do NOT take her class. She is so unorganized and I am pretty sure she herself doesn't know what's happening in the class. We have a test every 2 weeks, and she expects us to read the textbook. Didn't update grades, learning module, what chapters to read. Good @ explaining base concepts but rambles abt non-chem. Doesn't explain the more complicated problems and wants you to learn more from the book. 75% of your grade is 4 tests and a final. If you're good at math + have prev chem knowledge you'll do ok but otherwise it'll be a nightmare

The absolute worst professor I have ever had. Does not teach at all, just rambles. RUNNNNN!!!! If you care about your GPA and diginity do whatever you can to avoid having her. Get ready to learn it all on your own and then have exams that go over nothing covered in class.

Sometimes I randomly remember this lady has been teaching for almost 20 years and I snicker to myself... It's actually so embarrassing lmao she operates like everyday is her first time in a classroom as if she didn't even go to school as a child. And the funniest part is you can tell she genuinely believes she's good at her job

Dr. Hoyt was extremely disorganized and unhelpful. She gave me the wrong answer on my homework but when walking me through it talked to me like I'm a toddler. She constantly changed what was going to be on exams and even changed how many points the final was. I do not recommend this class. But it isn't impossible. Go to SLA sessions and tutoring.

Hoyt is a very interesting character. She has a bubbly personality and her hw/p&e is graded based off if you completion. Her lectures vary on consistency on whether she presents new material or not. She can get easily distracted and go off on a tangent depending on what was mentioned. I personally do not recommend taking her if you want to learn.

In a 50 min lecture, she only talks about content for about 20-30 of it. However, you should still go to class. She does plenty of partial credit on tests so never leave anything blank. I wouldn't recommend her unless you have no other choice.

Dr. Hoyt was awful! Absolutely do NOT take her. She provides absolutely nothing from her end to help you succeed. This class is entirely self taught and the textbook is awful. She does not provide lectures, lecture videos, lecture slides, or learning objectives (occasionally). She is disorganized, but fair with partial credit.

Lectures are useless and she is disorganized. She will make you buy a $40 Aktiv subscription that you use for a total of 1 hour for homework.

Dr. Hoyt is not a good teacher and is unable to explain topics. She didn't post grades until the 2nd to last week and came up with rude remarks when asked grade related questions. Spent majority of lecture time complaining about Blackboard and how she plans to organize it. Extremely disorganized, rude and unapproachable overall.

Oh boy, disorganized, arrogant, unaccountable, and simply incapable. Assuming personal stress interfered with her teaching, but that is no excuse for an ENTRY LEVEL CHM 201 course being extremely difficult. I have always done very well in my college courses and for me to struggle significantly to receive a B+ in this course is quite frankly absurd.

Class is managable but her way of teaching is incoherent. You will have to do a majority of the learning on your own. Beware the disorganization of Blackboard. Dr. Hoyt is very smart but she is lacking in the teaching skills unfortunately. I recomend signing up for Reach Tutoring and going to SLA sessions.

Had a rough time with this class. Most learning is done outside of class with the textbook. I only passed because I went to so many SLA sessions.

Dr. Hoyt is a professor to avoid! She never taught anything in the classes until the last 10 minutes and never did anything on time. At the end, she mentioned about how her messages were flooded with people saying they had grading mistakes on their tests. She noted that she was going to get them all done and not to worry. They were never finished.

First exam second semester for spring this professor moved her tests online during class and there was no backtracking allowed and the time wasn't enough on exam which was stressful and the studying I had put in. I was not able to focus or take that test comfortably. I personally feel she doesn't know how to use online.

Genuinely never take hoyt. She is an insult to the money it costs to pay for the course and enroll at UofL. She never teaches, just rambles about nothing. required attendance, although there's no point in being there, as SHE DOESNT TEACH. Considering withdrawing because there is no way I get an A, and I need a 4.0. Please do not take her class.

AVIOD THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS UNLESS U WANNA SAY BYE BYE TO YOUR GPA FELLOWS. No backtrack on exams, rushed. Disorganized, posts content near exam. Content isn't taught. On ur own out of chapters she assigns which doesn't encourage people to engage. WAY too long to score ur exams and WAY long to post grades, she waits until the last minute.

Do not take Hoyt. Just don't. Listen to the reviews, she does not lecture well at all, only take if you plan on reading the entire textbook yourself. Overall not a nice person, and extremely unorganized.

why test us when we cant go back or see the next questions along with being timed very tightly. why not start examing us as soon as we walk in, why waste 30 mins of u talking...?? like how do we manage time right on exams when we dont know what question to expect next!!??? biggest issue,lets be real it's not even her teaching it's the way she stresses her students, when people say most of the class is failing all the exams ,they're not lying. You telling me it takes her DAYS to prepare the content before the exam, its 3 days before an exam and finally you get the post telling you what will be on there, what to study.

If you want to have a god honest aneurysm, do please take this class.I've never felt so slow, wanting to rip my hair out because of a class before. Chem cant be this hard if taught properly No set objectives horrible at updating course calendars tests are scheduled close, 1-2 weeks apart if you have a hard time learning new material you better pray

If you don't understand even one concept, then you immediately fall off the tracks because she doesn't stop. Also, why do we waste the first 30 minutes of class on exam days learning new material? It confuses me right before the exams, which are timed poorly. She even said in class one day she expects 2-3 hours of studying a day for just this class

Just do not take it. transfer schools, take it online, rethink your academic future. No other option but Hoyt for 201 and 202. DOES NOT TEACH, maybe does one example problem in a class. Mind you, there is a HUGE exam every 3 class periods. She RAMBLES on and on about blackboard, formatting, i dont understand how anyone has a job in the chem field

I can't fathom why she has a job. Don't bother with the textbook, I read it, it's useless. Even the TA's seemed shocked by what she didn't teach. The school needs to pull some random high school chemistry teacher, they could not possibly be worse than a multi-day long blackboard lecture

Avoid her at all costs. She is very very disorganized to the point she didn't give us our syllabus for the first two weeks of class. There will be an exam every 3 lectures and she will not teach you what you need to know before them, instead trying to get you to do problem sets and yapping about blackboard.

waits till a few days before the exam to post some kind of practice on hand material, which we are not given much of that to practice actively and test our self so this is disrespecting my time and all she wants to do is complain about technology She can't even set up blackboard exams correctly. she makes it where you can't go back on questions

Teaches more about the idea of teaching than chem. Haven't learned a single equation or anything conceptual from her at all that I didn't already know from chem 201; purely self taught. If you have a choic, pick a different professor.

Already receiving emails about failing the class when it hasn't even started, what kind of laziness is this, and also why is that the only class that emails about failing when it hasn't even started ?! like girl can't u fix ur teaching style why is everything so messy, I honestly have never met a worse professor, excuses after another.

In this class, there is a lot of reading to do, but she doesn't prepare you nor does she have worksheets to help students engage with different forms rather than using a textbook and practice problems. You could still do all that and suck your luck at that test. and it's always excuses after another. That's how you know that prof is terrible.

Lets be real we all think we are failing...imagine being so happy over a 60% on an exam and just imagine studying everything for 5 hrs everyday just to open the exam and get tested about left handed crap we barely talked about. Lets be real, she ruined chemistry for me. I dont recommend. my heart is broken.

lot homework and then tell you not to use it to study. She will post learning out comes that DO NOT get fully covered, For example we will stress math in class and there will be 1-2 math problems on there and the rest of the stuff is a hit or miss ..she refuses to give more clues too much material and we dont actually get into until its too late.

They should have given me a discount or clearance before taking this class This this professor really moved our3rd exam and didn't move the 4thone which is very disrespectful of my time and i am not going to perform as good as a should have Just take this class at another uni she is such terrible teacher i promise u only the students pets do good.

I would NOT recommend Hoyt for any chemistry class. She goes through content without properly explaining steps and expects you to already know content. Her exams are never unit based they are combination of all prior units along with new stuff so you never know what to focus on. There's not a lot of direction she gives for studying. Terrible prof

Literally the worst professor I've ever had and I've gone to two different universities. Her lectures are pointless and you won't learn anything. I cannot tell you one thing I've learned in the semester and she somehow expects us to move on to higher level chemistry with no knowledge.

She makes me feel im a pin in a hay stack, it makes me so sad how she makes each test like a final and can include things from 201 or any chapter. Worst thing is when she does exams on paper with true or false or crap that isn't worded the same P&E dont apply on paper exams

lord I don't know even know where to start, her lectures do not teach you a single thing. exams are Nothing like she teaches don't even go to class teach yourself. knowing how to do every practice problem in the textbook will not help you she switches everything she is the worst professor ive ever had.

Tests are usually unrelated to what you study, or a very tiny portion of the test will be what she tells you to read. TA just as clueless as the students.

I have taken this class before at a different school and passed with a 97% but it did not transfer. Everything I knew from the same exact class is nothing like what is on her tests. She yells at us every single class because we are all lost. Maybe we arent understanding because she isnt teaching whats on the test. DONT TAKE (you dont know ur grade)

Nothing appears on the test, no study guides or any help. PAL sessions dont understand either what were learning. She yells at us because we are confused.

She is not understanding on anything. Everyone is stressed about A 200 LEVEL COURSE and thats because she does not teach. No one should be questioning their major because of this course which is what is occurring to everyone.

With full confidence, this professor is definitely not a five out of five, max i'd give is a 2. It is pretty much a week before the end of the semester or so and she still has not posted test one and of course people have no idea what their grade is. This is honestly a class that tears away your mental health. (End of semester review of course)

The subject is not so bad, but it requires a lot of reading. She is SUPER disorganized. Bb grades are never updated. Wastes so much time talking about Bb in class or how you should already know 201 content. Lectures are not so useful. Test material doesn't reflect the lecture's material, lots of trick questions that she doesn't prepare you for.

in this class we take a total of 5 exams and a final (1 exam being a replace for lowest). I've been told that exam 5 will be a "mini final" so is each exam we have taken by far...idk why she teaches like this when she could just tell us what chapters to work on and just be expected to be tested on that. Im paying for a class when exams are luck....

Most disorganized professor I have ever encountered, pushing exams until December and December 8 , students are completely burnt out and each test being a mix of all chapters is actual HECK she would go on to tell you that this whole topic is on an exam but we haven't even seen this one topic for two exams straight.

cannot organize a syllabus, like why is there no list where it says what we are going to do on certain and when each test is, THATS not on there and u tell me why she makes only an announcement listing where all the tests are gonna be except for last test (test 5) and its stressful because there is no post about what is expected for that test

Hoyt degrades her students in class expects you to teach yourself the class with a useless textbook, her class has 0 structure the test were never anything you cover in class or Pal sessions we didn't even get a syllabus until 2 weeks into school I have never had a professor this bad or as rude if you have to take her just say a prayer.

she is unclear on syllabus about exams she only made an announcement 5 mins before an exam started and hadnt mentioned location which to me was an indicator bad class structure, really hoped this class was more structured along with the horrible book used to study she mentioned her HW shouldnt be used to study and P&E are not same as test this sem.

very unorganized professor. She doesn't know how to use Bb, notes are unorganized, yaps too much abt unnecessary material, & her exams are cumulative & super difficult. Do not expect lecture slides bc there is none! You have to read the textbook and do the problems on there, & the hw assignments but when the test comes, barely any of that is on it.

Recommend students to take this class somewhere else since it seems they can not properly teach chem, this was the only available professor, and she is the worst professor i've had in all my years in UofL. The content she teaches are unrelated and not engaging, so student refrain from participating and they get yelled at during lectures for it.

professor doesn't prepare students. Doesn't give them enough idea on what to expect other than reused problems from a horrible book (opexstax) only possible way to study is YT videos and past exams. The homework she says not to study it so i guess that encourages people to just get it done and not understand. she apologizes all the time for messing

A lack of organization, time management, and clarity summarizes Hoyt. I have never had a teacher be so disorganized, grades are rarely put in, and it took forever to get tests back. Not to mention taking four? five? tests within like two months? Could be alright if we got feedback on our tests, but that happened weeks after. good luck.

All i'm going to say yes, I wish you luck on your second or third try of this terrible professor. The final is nothing like any of the exams and there was no way she could ever prepare you for questions like that and most students failed each exam.

A nightmare to take. So disorganized I have no clue how she was hired in the first place. 15 assignments posted in one day MULTIPLE times. Final exam was nothing like the practice or other exams. Jumps from chapter to chapter out of order. Complicated explanations that leave you more confused than you started out.

The class is extremely test heavy, as most of your grade is based off tests alone. She doesn't cover most of the material you see on the tests, and expects you to learn it yourself, even though attendance is mandatory. The tests are worded very differently than the homework. We were always taking a test without having the previous exam graded.

I've never in my life been so confused in a class before. Its impossible to know what is going to be on the exams, as the questions are always horribly worded and meant to trip you up. As a professor, Hoyt is very disorganized, never responds to emails, and her lectures do not prepare you for the exam. If you want to pass, attend the PAL sessions.

She's not a bad person as it's clear she tries her best to be likeable. Her teaching methods are unclear, unfocused and are all over the place. You will not learn in her class. Go to the PAL's and recitations to learn. The textbook is required but this is a professor's review. Do the Aktivs. She may probably do better in a smaller classroom.
