Excellent teacher
Calculus was FUN with him at the helm, but only had him 1st semester.
Best prof of first year by far
excellent
Awesome Teacher, Best at Queen's
Wow do I ever love calc
Amazing!
FANTASTIC PROF!!! Great guy, always willing to help!
EASY for Calculus! take advantage of the soln manual with text.easily get 80 %
Great teacher! Very Caring. Love going to class. Info relavent to life
Great guy. Loves teaching, that's obvious
The best APSC 171 prof at our school bar none
He likes to teach, this is what makes him so good

AMAZIN prof! tho he overdid the pizza
very good prof. likes to challenge students on exams, but quite fair actually.
Amazing prof with oversized cranium
Best instructor/teeacher/prof. I've ever had (the entire next door classroom taking the exact same course all ended up filling up our seats and stairs of the lecture hall by January!). FROSH: make sure you get him! Student of his in 1991/92.

I found 1st yr calculus to be really easy.Just study hard and you'll do fine.Exams are a mix of easy and few trick questions, but nothing impossible. It's easy to do well in 1stYr math, upper year Engineering courses w/openbook exams are very damm tough!!!!
very helpful. Loved what he was teaching. they should find more teachers like him. He seems like a good guy and can relate boring math to somewhat practical examples

A real great prof and a great person.Makes sure that everyone knows what's going on. If a student asks a question in the big auditorim with 450 students, he stops the entire class and goes and clears the students doubt.Teaches very patiently and clearly!
Great teacher. I learned to love math, but more importantly I learned how to teach children how to love it. Thanks!!!!!
What makes Leo Jonker a great professor is that he is a great person. He genuinely cares for his students and enjoys connecting with them on a personal level - he even makes an effort to learn student's names. It is a blessing to have him as a professor
great
Decent prof. One of the nicest profs in First year Enginering. I had initially thought he must be really hard when I saw the course policy if you get less than 40% on the exam, that's your course mark. But Exams were medium and fair. Teaches very well!
Him and Newstead form the Awesome First Year prof team. Really good teacher. I thought the Quizzes were overly tricky, and the 172 finally was stupidly difficult but other than that, very good teacher.
I firmly believe Jonker is one of the best professors in the first year Eng. His explanations are clear and work well with the Courseware notes. APSC172 is a quite a bit harder than 171 though.
If you find this guy hard, then good luck in 112 and 142! And Yeah, APSC172 is harder than 171, but if you were smart, you'd take 172 with JIM in J-section. That's what I did. I got 60's in Calc 1 with Leo Jonker and 80's with Jim in 171J,172J and 174J
One Word: EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!
A truly awesome prof. Exams contain few tough questions but for some reason I got a better mark than what I had expected. He's really nice and his teaching is very effective. He always wins the First Year Teaching Award. He's a true genius who also cares.
good use of overheads...
Dr Jonker is an exemplary professor. He is ALWAYS caring, ALWAYS available outside class. I'm not properly adjusting to his teaching methods, but I'm the black sheep. THUMBS UP FOR JONKER(no S)!!!!!
Ever notice how his class is always full?? huh? Huhh???
great professor, really helpful and really clear
What a nice guy..sat in his office and asked him calc questions for 2 hours and he helped me with every single one, without being agitated or kicking me out! He talks a bit fast for me sometimes, but I think thats because of the amount of material 171 has
funny guy
Great.
Awesome, Calc made easy.
I think i am the only one who doesnt particularily like him. Just doesnt explain things the best way... Ive had it explained way way better.
Jonkers is the best Calc teacher i have ever had. He makes it so easy and understandable. What a great teacher.
This man is a calc God! Knows how to teach those of us who have "engineering brains". Wicked!
Outstanding professor. It's always a pleasure to attend his class. All my buddies also feel the exact same thing. He's the best calculus professor right now. Knows his stuff, but most importantly, knows how to convey the material.
a great prof. Always make sure the person asking the question understands what he's saying. And willing to take extra time over a point if he feels it's needed.
Makes the calculus concepts crystal clear..More clear than water even. Not easy but well worth the challenge. Likes to challenge students on exams by putting few unfamiliar questions, but if you've worked very hard all term, should get 65-70 atleast
Knows what he is talking about
Best proff ever
He's good and all, but I have had better calc profs
Very Interesting lectures!
I find him 100-X better than any of my High School math teachers. Very clear and concise teaching. Good and Helpful person.
Very clear!!
One of the Best Profs I had in my first semester at Queen's. I loved his Dunning Auditorium lectures so much. His exam wasn't easy by any means, but I found it quiet reasonable and fair. He is a great guy
An excellent calculus prof. Great course, very interesting, and he only makes it better
Had him for Calculus II and he was awesome. He is not an easy teacher but you will definitely know your stuff when you are finished the course with him! It is obvious that he loves math and teaching and that makes a huge difference!!
Incredible prof with sweet teaching skills. His notes are well detailed and organized. He just got the first CMS Excellence in teaching award. Congrats prof. You're the best. I wish you taught all my courses.
The first winner of the Canadian Mathematical Society's first Excellence in Teaching Award!
Leo was great. He also wins the first year Applied Science teaching and learning award each year. Because of him Queen's is a much better place to study.
AMAZING! Just AMAZING! He knows how to teach and he never lets you feel like another number even in such a huge lecture hall. Answers every student's question with patience and is always enthusiastic in lectures.
Best prof i've had. He's as genuine as they come.
Very Helpful and makes everything easy to understand.
Best calculus professor of Queen's. Dynamic teaching style
Good guy
An excellent professor who is truly committed to teaching. Does his best to make learning math as enjoyable as it can be.
Didn't miss even one class of his and I am such a slacker usually.
awesome
really nice prof. Don't know about now, but few years back he also used a discussion forum on the course website where students could ask questions 24/7. He was very helpful there too. A great teacher at Queen's. No prof can make math so interesting.
great teacher! Helpful and understanding about the students' concerns. He is great at his job.
A+ prof
WOW!!!! What a great guy!!! He's such a nice person, makes learning interesting, and he looooooooooves math! When the class is heavily involved in discussion, he gets this cute little happy grandpa smile on his face, like he's so happy that people love math
Prof Leo Jonker's class was the best experience of my undergrad (seriously). Many many students who are not in his sections attend his class, the seats are always full. He has a dynamic way of explaining that is different from most profs you'll find at Queen's Univ. Best math prof in the world.
I am enjoying his class the most out of all my first year classes right now. Great job teaching first year calculus, sir!
Amazing professor. Jonker makes every concept seem interesting and really makes sure everyone understands what's going on. Genuinly nice guy too.
good stuff

Very good lecture notes. Good prof. Teaches at a good pace.
Such an awesome lecturer. Wow. I know like calculus rather that hate it with a passion....
He's the best prof
I hated Jonker's lectures. He is very slow. He tries to take suggestions from the class, and as a result he goes through about 3 wrong solutions before finally telling you the right one. I couldn't stand it. I don't think that interactive approach works in a lecture hall of 100's of people.

Really good prof!!
Such a wonderful professor. The only professor I have come across who actually cares about his students and what he is doing at the university! If you can, take a course with him because it will remind you that not all professors are ****s!
A great prof! one of the few maths teachers who doesnt assume everyone is a math genuis and goes at a good pace. He also tries to have interaction with the class. Keep it up :)
good prof but the exam was hard
Gives interesting lectures and is always happy to answer questions and help.
Speaks English. Great explainer. Ensures students understand the concepts. Goes over everything you will be tested on in class at least once.
Love this guy, I thought i knew the material before, but it makes even more sense after listening to him. Will go way out of his was to make sure things are clear.
come on, everyone loves jonker. that witch costume was sweet.
No doubt the best professor in first-year engineering. Absolutely amazing at teaching how to think. Best lectures, great course manual, great website (who else has COMPLETED lecture notes online??!) - Definitely happy to his student.
Very enthusiastic
great teacher, always willing to help. makes calculus a lot more interesting... great job!
Explains thouroughly and really makes sure the material is understood. Goes out of his way to help students and responds to individuals.
Excellent Prof. Very bright and will give consideration and thought to any question, inside or outside of class. A good model of a prof for others to aspire to.
He is the nicest man and he loves to teach!
KNOWS HIS STUFF, understands what teaching is all about
An excellent professor who sincerely cares about the students and understands their needs as students. He is by far one of the best teachers I have had, and I wish he would continue to teach into the upper - years.
Great guy.
this guy is top notch...way better than those foreign Grad Students who randomly teach the class
Greatest math professor
I never went to his lectures but whenever you have trouble with something you can always drop him an e-mail or by his office and he'll help you. I hated the guest lecturers
Calculus was my favourite class before I had Jonker as a professor. He makes everything much more complicated than it needs to be. He tries every day tp turn a lecture of 400 people into a 'group discussion'. This simply is not possible and a waste of time for those who do want to learn.
The last comment is jokes man. Whoever wrote that doesn't know what a good prof is and what a good teacher is. Leo Jonker is one of the best profs of first year Queen's. He makes time for everyone and is ready to provide personal attention to every single student. He teaches you how to think and tries to open your mind when working on math.
I don't know what's up with the negative comments, but Jonker is by far one of the greatest professors currently teaching first year. His course is well organized, his lectures clear, and the tutorials are aligned perfectly with the course material. He consistently challenges students to understand the material, and not just memorize.

I hated Calculus before i took this course. Jonker is the most amazing math teacher. I understand integrals and derivatives so much better since taking his course. he's also more than willing to answer any questions you have. The best teacher of first year eng by far.
One of my best first year profs. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Dr. Jonker is a fantastic professor. He runs an interactive class, posing questions and challenging students to think about how to solve each problem.
Best professor of first year calculus. very fair and he's such a nice man. great!!!
AMAZING PROF
He is the greatest calc prof ever!!
Smart man
Jonker's the man! I'm so sad he's not teaching anymore :(
Best prof ever. If you ever have to go see him for anything, he's a great guy "in person" too.
Absolutely the best math prof at Queen's. Awesome person if you talk to him personally too.
Prof Jonker was the first person at Queens that showed an interest in my well being. I had severe mental health issues and my attendance and grades were poor. He went out of his way to ask how I was doing and what he could do to help. An absolutely wonderful human being. He also made things very clear for me as a ConEd student with no math skills
"Teaching is about making connections; connections between teacher and student, connections between student and subject, connections between theory and practice…. and of course synaptic connections between students' brain cells" Leo The Great!
