Great professor but exams was to long and to many pages
Great Teacher with unique teaching ability
Professor Leo is very clear, helpful and knowledgeable when he explains things and he uses real life examples that the students can relate to, so it makes it easy to understand what he is trying to teach us. He's by far the best instructor I had.
I love my world religions teacher! One of the best professors ever!
He is a great teacher, the way of teaching makes it interesting. All his notes and lecture are helpful.
Interesting teaching style. Keeps it entertaining. HOWEVER, make sure you pay attention to test instruction he does not grade easy.
Valverde is definitely in it for his own desire to educate our community. Bit of a hard grader, I wouldn't recommend his accelerated classes due to a lack of time to get the feel for how he likes things done, but he really does have a passion for education and seemingly the subjects that he teaches. He has a great, super energetic teaching style.
Professor Valverde is a very good teacher. But if you are looking for an easy grade this is not the teacher for you. He is very professional and wants to make sure that you are really retaining the material. I should have taken him during the regular semester because summer class is killing me.
Professor Valverde is a very good teacher. If you are looking to skate by this will not be the class for you. He expects you to work very hard and be very detailed in your assignments. You may want to take this class during the Fall not during an accelerated summer class due to all of the reading that is required.
Leo Valverde is a very great teacher very nice his teaching is pretty entertaining this class is not easy he is a hard grader but he just wants you learn and is great at what he does and he loves it
Prof. Valverde offers a unique teaching style that allows the student to gain an interest in the lecture and keeps them engaged throughout the duration of his class. His teaching style is energetic, demanding, and knowledgeable. He is fair but not an easy A, however I learned much more than I expected and enjoyed every minute of it. 5 stars!
Not an easy class but very fun class, the Professor kept the course material interesting and used real world examples which made the material easy to retain.
Prof. Leo is an awesome teacher. Hard grader but fair because he wants you to learn. Summer class was just too short but I recommend choosing him as a teacher if possible because he is passionate and really cares. He wants to make sure you know the subject so you can be successful. Be ready to work though as it is not an easy A.
Great instructor he is very helpful and smart man orale.
Mr. Valverde, is a awesome teacher! He is very helpful and passionate about the subject. He makes learning Constitutional Law fun. I enjoyed his class very much. I recommend anyone who is intersted in learning about law or world religon to take his classes.
He's cool, just the briefs are sort of hard to do.
I found this class very interesting and informative. The teaching style is a different approach that worked very well for me. I would recommend him to my family and friends if they needed to take this class.
Good teacher with lots of insight.
Enthusiastic about the subject, kept the class engaging, knowledgeable about the subject as well.
Prof. Valverde is a great teacher. He's very insightful, he's easy to understand and follow and he also gives thorough notes. I will say when you ask a question you may not understand he can make you feel a bit deterred and slow.
over all very good teacher direct clear understandable firm
At age 63 it was very hard to lock in but to the younger people who choose this field he is the best
This is my second semester taking a class with Leo, he is very helpful and has a lot of knowledge about the laws. I recommend him.....
He made class extremely interesting and very easy to open up about personal stories. His positive attitude and enthusiasm made going to class tolerable.
Professor Valverde was hands down one of the best instructors I have ever had. Every single one of his classes were not only extremely informative, but a joy to be in as well. I have already recommended his class to many of my friends and people at school who were unsure of what to take. Overall, amazing professor with an awesome work ethic.
I found that Professor Valverde was very through and knowledgeable. He knows what he is talking about and is very in tuned with his students understanding are learning. However do not mistake that for weakness or even easiness. By know means is Professor Valverde an easy A. If you want an A, you have to work at it and earn it.
Just one word......perplexity !!!!! Perplexity is the beginning of knowledge.
Just one word......... Perplexity!!!!!! Perplexity is the beginnig of knowledge.....
Prof Valverde is a great teacher, who makes you earn your grade/he's no easy A. His personality is informal, which makes it easier to confide in him, and makes him an approachable teacher for help.
great teacher :D
great class to take , very very helpful teacher
Amazing instructor!!! Makes learnin law fun.
Great class. Instructor is amazing!!!
cool guy, harder tests than most other professors
Great Teacher. Go to class, listen and participate in the lectures and you will pass with flying colors. He is very hands on and keeps the class room intriged.
Just one word perplexity, Perplexity is the beginning of knowledge
great teacher and made the class very fun to attend.
Mr.valverde is an awesome professor, I really appreciated his teaching style, not once did he ever use a power point for classes. He makes you really engage in each lecture discussion.had great sense of humor, for me going to his class was actually fun and I really learned a lot. I am not a criminal justice major ,yet I thought this class was great!
One of my the best classes I've ever taken! Super straightforward and tons of fun.
I loved this class very fun and informative
Professor Leo is quite knowledgeable and sharp in his professional teachings. Therefore, he will demand you to follow his guide in order to do well in the class. The experience I have had with him was great. The lecture that he taught stuck into my mind. Most importantly, if pay attention to his lectures, you will be able to do very well.Recommend!
At the beginning of the semester I was skeptical of the class because he announced that it would be pretty difficult to earn an "A" and I didn't want to kill my GPA. By the end of the semester I was glad that I took the class he is very knowledgable and is very concerned about his students. If you do what is asked its easy to understand everything.
Instructor is very harsh in his grading. Must be very detailed in all your assignments and essay writing, grammar and vocabulary must be correct and on point.
This guy is one of the best and hardest teacher ive had. even though he is really cool, he is a person in which he is expecting alot from you.
Instructor has good energy and keeps the class involved. Has a fun class. The class is challenging, but the instuctor makes sure you are well prepared for assignments.
Instructor is very critical in his grading. All essays must be very detailed and grammar is crucial.
He is an interesting professor. He made the subject really easy to understand, which almost made the book unnecessary. Just pay attention in class and nothing should be a surprise on the exams. I would recommend taking his class.
Professor Leo is a good instructor. He goes over all material before test and stays lateto make sure all questions are answered.
Professor Leo is a good teacher. He may grade hard but that helps you improve on your assignments.
Curses too much sometimes, but other than that,he makes it a really fun and exciting course.
If you are looking for an easy A this is not the professor you want to take it with. He is an excellent professor but very challenging. He will not let you just skate by. However he makes himself more than available to his students when they ask him for help. He keeps the class interesting and a lot of fun.
Mr.Valverde is a really cool, fun teacher although he is not an easy A. You actually have to study and he will give you a study guide for every test you have. Everything on the test and on the study guide is on the notes he will provide for you. SO if you take the time to study his notes you will be able to get an A on the tests and in the class.
Mr.Valverde is not an easy teacher when it comes to grading. All his tests are fill in the blank, short answer, and multiple choice. You can earn an A if you print out the study guide for the exams. He explains everything very well so you can understand, and is really cool! Keeps you engaged on the topic! Great teacher!
Instructor is very cool and harsh in his grading. Must be very detailed in all your assignments and essay writing, grammar and vocabulary must be correct and on point.
Professor Valverde was the best professor I've ever had so far! He is very upbeat and he loves to teach. This class actually taught me a lot of things that I never knew about religions and it was well worth my time. He gives extra credit with every exam and study guides which are very helpful. Take his class, you won't regret it.
Professor Valverde is a great teacher but he is by no means an easy teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have o be there to get the notes. The tests are somewhat difficult but if you use your study guide and actually ready, you'll pass them easily. Extra Credit is also avaikable with every test.
A very interesting class, and the professor keeps it interesting, you probably wont fall asleep. Have to work for your grade, not an easy A. Recommend anyone to take this class with this teacher. You learn a lot.
Very interesting class I learned a lot and it was an inspiring class. He is a very hard teacher and his tests are difficult. If you ask for his help he is willing to help.
I really enjoyed this class.
If you think this class is an easy A, then it's definitely not the class for you. However, Mr. Valverde is an excellent teacher with great positive energy. He gives you all of the material you need in order to pass the class. As as for tests, they are challenging but if you complete the study guide then it should be a piece of cake. Great class!
Professor Valverde is a great professor. He has a very upbeat personality, he keeps the class engaged and makes the topic very interesting. He gives great lectures and you're able to take notes to gain better understanding from the textbook.
This Professor is cool, but his grading is too harsh. He has a lot of energy in the class and makes it kind of interesting. He gives you study guides, but God knows what is going to be on the test. You might think you did great on a test & end up with a failing grade. & this class is based off tests.
I highly recommend future students to take Mr.Valverde's world religion class.I've not met a professor that truly is passionate about teaching before until taking this class.Tests are not that hard. Take good notes and be engaged, you'll pass the class.
Great Coursed and Great Professor. It took a minute for me to catch on th the whole ethics thing but the professor taught in a clear, concise and passionate manner.
The class is good and interesting. You need to use the book a majority of the time and you need to pay attention. There aren't alot of assignments in class so participation and reading are imperative.
Attendance and participation are mandatory in the class as there are not a lot of point opportunities besides tests. I recommend doing the reading every night but overall this class is great. He is very passionate about the different religions.
A really outstanding teacher. He really knows how to keep you interested and awake. Show up for class, take good notes, and study and you'll pass with ease.
He is a great professor and loves what he teaches. His grading is a little harsh and attendance is mandatory so you must be there to earn participation points. Overall, I loved what I learned and he teaches well.
I had a great time in this class. He was a large terrific teacher and he had a lot of enthusiasm.
Taking this class was entertaining as well as use full.I have learned new facts about many religions, as well as my own religion that i did not know. I think Mr. Valverde is a good professor, hes not easy but it's worth the work and the knowledge you receive from the course.
Professor Valverde is a good teacher and you can tell that he enjoys teaching. I learned so much in his class and he has a lot of knowledge about World Religions. His lectures are never boring and he keeps you interested and he likes to interact his lectures with his students. I highly recommend him for World Religions 243.
Professor Valverde is tough on us but only because he wants us to learn. He doesn't spoonfeed us information, he makes us read and actually think about it. He's a harsh grader but only because he's given is the resources necessary to pass the class. I would recommend him if you actually want to learn something.
Tough
Over all this is a great class to take. I learned a lot, and the professor made the class very fun everyone in our class became friends. If you take this class you'll learn a little about a lot of religions.
This professors lectures are very educational and keep you engaged throughout the class. He is very experienced and passionate about his job. If u expect an easy A then pick someone else but if u actually want to learn something and have fun then definately pick Mr. V
His enthusiasm to teach us made him one of my favorite teachers. I've never been more excited to attend one of my hardest classes, just because I know he makes the lessons easy and fun for us.
This class is tough, but Mr. Valverde's enthusiasm to teach, makes the class so much fun. This class was probably my favorite class this semester.
Professor Valverde's class, wasn't the easiest class, however every time we had class he never once made the class boring. He makes it interesting and is very enthusiastic. The grading was a little hard, but he really loves to teach. I would highly recommend Valverde's class.
He is a really good teacher and ethics is a hard subject to understand but he helps you a lot.
Your class was amazing. It was so much fun to be there. It opened my mind to many new things that I've never thought of.
Taking Valverde's Criminal Justice Class was easy if you had the materials required and attended class. The grading was hard but he gave you what he thought you earned, it was just whether or not you followed the instructions on exams or homework and participated. I recommend his class to others. He is a great instructor and class is NEVER boring!
Mr. Valverde is an excellent professor. I didn't know what to expect when I took the class, but he has made me thirsty for more. Thanks to him I now know what my major and minor will be, and I hope I can get him for as many of my Criminal Justice classes as I can, if now all of them.
Valverde is an excellent teacher. He is persistent and he teaches very well. Everything he does is good.
When enrolling in the class I knew what to expect, i just didn't know what to expect from the Professor. I was surprised on how enthusiastic he was. His out going personality made this class fun to be a part of. In my opinion, you learned something new in every class. The test were hard but easy if you studied & The answers are right in the book.
Great class, do the reading, participate, fun class
Professor Val Verde does a great job of keeping the class involved. He also uses great examples to clear things up. He is a tough grader, but he also takes the time to explain any questions a student might have. There are no surprises on any of the exams or writing assignments. Overall he is a great teacher, just do your part and do the work.
Mr. Valverde is a great teacher, makes class fun and entertaining. If you show up, do your reading and take notes theres no way to fail the class. No surprises with him, everything that he goes over in class is whats on the test so take notes!!! I would definitely take another class by him!
Mr. Valverde is very straight forward and you will not be bored in his class. Be ware though, reading and taking notes is always a must. Also, follow his directions, take advantage of his extra credits, never underestimate his helping abilities. While other teachers will only read in front of the class, Mr. Valverde will jump, dance and act out 4u.
It would be helpful if this professor could write the notes on the board either on full sentences or be more clear. The notes provided seem to be choppy and become confusing a lot of the times. Overall, he's a really good teacher.
The class was extremely fun and rather interesting, Leo was involved with the class well! I have nothing bad to say about this class and it was to my own responsibility that I follow the standards and pass!
This course was not that easy but if you pay attention and do all the assignments you'll pass. Hes a great instructor, he answers every question you have.
Really cool guy, keeps your attention during lecture, just a couple test, and a paper at the end of the semester.
great teacher , was very easy to listen to and has a great lesson in store every class period
I really enjoyed this class... if you study for your test you should be ok.... he is a very hard grader compared to most classes I've taken at smcc. If u have a answer you must explain yourself.... i learned a good amount of info jus be prepared for the test.
I had previously taken this class with Mr. Valverde and failed miserably the first time around. I figured I'd take it with another professor the following semester but I waited until the last minute and was stuck with Mr. Valverde for yet another semester. He truly is an amazing teacher and he only gives you the grade you have earned.
He is a great professor, although he is a very tough grader on essays and exams. It's best to go to every class and take notes. If your looking for a easy grade, go somewhere else.
This is Mr. Valverde in a nutshell. You have studied the best you could for a test. You get the test back and you did horrible. You verify every answer in the book and show him. He looks & says, "Yeah you need to be more specific though." You, "The book says it the same thing" him:"I want more" cool guy, but shouldn't be rated as high as he is
He is a cool, funny guy. His grading is tough. If you pay attention, you will pass !
Prof. Valverde is a very good teacher. In his class the lectures are easy to understand and gives great feedback if given the appropriate time. Is handy when it comes to extra credit. The only thing i would change would be the amount of assignments given in class since the way he grades is rather tough. Overall a very good teacher to have.
Professor Valverde was a really great teacher to have! Yes his lectures were long but they were super helpful and full of stories that would help clarify. He would explain all the information by giving us people and situations to further understand the topic. I definitely hope to take Professor Valverde again and would highly recommend him!
Professor Valverde is a very tough grader but if you attend ALL classes he gives you every bit of information you need to do well on his tests. There are very few assignments, but again if you attend class and pay attention he gives you ALL of the information you need to pass. He is also very entertaining and keeps class interesting!!
Professor Valverde, Start the mornings with great energy, makes you awake. he dosent give out too much homework, but in order to pass the class you MUST read the CJ book to be ready for the next class and take notes. Besides all the notes come in handy for test. His grading is very TOUGH. but he also gives extra credit. His Super -great teacher !
Professor Leo Valverde was an awesome instructor very humorous keeps you engaged in the class. Like any other class you show up you pass. He was very well at explaining the assignments and lectures. Ill recommend this class to anyone interested in criminal justice.
Professor Valverde is a great teacher and explains the material well. He makes the lectures fun. Valverde can sometimes be sarcastic when you ask a question, making it uncomfortable to want to ask more. But overall it is a great class, read the book and you'll be fine.
Great professor, you will definitely learn in his class. He has a lot of energy , gives little work its a good and bad thing. Fair professor.
great teacher really funny tough grader but clarifys why really hilarious but excellent teacher -Big m
great teacher really funny tough grader but clarifys why really hilarious but excellent teacher -Big m than you
Professor Valverde is a great teacher you must be willing to work for the grade and pay attention.
Professor is clear on what is expected from the students. Gives you all the information needed to pass the course, just follow his direction. I would recommend this class and professor. But it is essential that you do all the reading assigned.
You must attend this class everyday, regardless if he says it's okay if you don't some days. You will miss out on valuable information that is helpful for tests and assignments.
professor valverde is perhaps one of the most clear and best professors ive had. his lectures get to the point. Valverde has good experience in the courts, hes not some guy who got a degree in criminal justice so he can have a teaching job.
Professor Valverde is an amazing instructor. His lectures are detailed as they can be and if you have any questions, he does his best to clarify the information until you understand the material. He is also has a great sense of humor and is a funny guy with tons of energy. I would recommend professor to any of my criminal justice major colleague
Everything is to the point. As long as you attend class and ask questions you should pass.
overall a solid teacher, just did not expect my grade to be so poor with all the effort put into the class.
He is a good teacher, one of a kind that's for sure. But i recommend going to his class everyday on time. He is a tough grader. But the work is simple if your there to learn how to do it.
Definitely Recommend going to lecture so that you get a better understanding of material. Professor Valverde is a tough grader but gives you real feedback that lets you understand your grade. The lectures are enjoyable because Valverde lightens up the atmosphere which in turn makes the class and material easier to process and digest.
Leo Valverde is an excellent teacher! His lectures are great and he pushes you to be better. He is one of those teachers you wait all week to have a class with.
The instructor makes it easier to understand the course subject and has a great way of making the class easier. The only thing you need to watch out for is that he is a tough grader so do not underestimate his course.
I like how he makes the class interesting and fun. He isn't a boring teacher, he likes participations in his class. Another thing I like about his teaching is that he will break down the sections in easier way for us to understand. No dislikes.
Mr. Valverde was very clear as to what was expected of you which was to be in class everyday and on time, have read the assigned chapter, and participate in the class discussion. Everything in his class the discussions and the homework will make sense if you READ the chapters!
Mr. V is a professor that will keep the class interesting and fun. He likes participation in his class, so that means you have to read the material. I would highly recommend not to miss a class lecture. His lectures are all over topics that are important for assignments and exams. Follow instructions and DO NOT ASSUME. Overall great professor.
Professor Leo is very cool and funny but don't let that fool you. He is a tough grader, so he wants to see you work for your grade. His lectures are good for assignments and tests. The book is a must, so READ IT. Participation is important therefore participate or else you will still get called on.
Make sure you follow his examples and don't assume. Also attend class and actually read the material, it will help in class discussions and of course the tests.
Read the book, follow the examples.
Gives good lectures, take lots of notes. He makes you work hard for the grade, it just depends if you want it.
Mr. V. is a very smart professional instructor. He is very well organized and ready to teach. Participation and book are a must. His lectures are always interesting and learning. He only gives 4 major assignments, 2 exams plus the final. But dont let that trick you as you must read the book and spent a lot of time on it. He very details about his
Love this class I've learned a lot, But grades hard.
This class was an eye opener in the way that by just showing up you will not pass. Your text book is literally your key to passing his class. Read the chapter he assigns and by being prepared for next class will only get you closer to your passing grade.
Great teacher, knew what he was teaching. Expect to buy or rent the book, the lectures are specifically designed to follow it.
He is very knowledgeable in his field.
Very funny and engaging in class. Very organized so the class flows well. Forces the students to participate by asking lots of questions. Everything on the tests are covered in class. Will never be surprised by the content on tests. - show up - read textbook - participate And you'll do well in the class
He is a great teacher , could be a little more lenient but tough love is the best for successful students. He pushes us to work hard and in the end it's very helpful. Tough grader but also willing to help with any questions and will break it down
I really enjoyed Mr. Valverde and his class. He is funny and easy going but he is a tough tough grader. Other than that I loved his class and I am confident to say that I have learned more with him than my other teachers who taught the degree that I am pursuing.
He knows what he is talking about. He is a tough grader but it will only make you better. The entire course is based on the text book, so make sure you read it. He is an amazing professor, I learned more from his class than any other.
He is a good professor, truly does know what he is talking about. Very passionate about what he does, has a lot of experience in the field as well. He is a very hard grader, but you get what you work for. Gives very good feedback, and tries his best to help you pass the class. You'll need the book in order to under the lectures better.
Hard grader
The recognition Professor Velverde gives when students participate is helpful and encourages others to engage in class. Professor Velverde can improve on developing group projects/assignments to get students to communicate and work together more.
Does an excellent job of keeping students engaged, while also reminding students that there is work due. He's a tough grader but he judges where it counts, and aims to assist you in perfecting your writing structure. His room for improvement lies in disciplining students. If you're being a distraction, not much is done to get you back on track.
I don't like him.
In the five weeks attending this class, was very interesting and amazing experience. It was a honor and pleasure to meet and have this class. The endless information learned was and now my level of knowledge is higher than ever
Prof. Valverde is a teacher that makes the students work hard, and at times it was confusing on what exactly was wanted for the assignments.
Professor Valverde was one of the best professors I have had. He gave beneficial feedback on assignments and took class time to talk about them. He lectures but incorporated the textbook chapters and students into the discussion which was beneficial to my learning.
Mr. valverde you doing good on breaking down ideas and explaining what they mean and how they can impact things. What I think you should do is improve more on explaining the assignments more in detail.
Mr. Valverde is definitely one of the most interesting teachers I ever had. That being said, Prof. Valverde engages students (mostly the ones who don't have the textbook) to participate in class. Without the book his class is definitely harder especially when it comes to exams. I like his teaching style as it's different from other teachers I had.
Professor Valverde has a distinct way of teaching his class which is not bad. Professor Valverde is good at what he does, the energy that he has is good thing to have, but all of those kickstarts that he drinks during class is bad for him. One thing Professor Valverde can work on is grading, he need to loosen up when it comes to grading.
Mr. V is very tough on grading your assignments and also Mr.V test are very challenging because you have to study but even if i study i still do bad so its very hard for me. Mr.V also does well at teaching in class to us and i feel like he can explain things in what we do today. For us to understand more well for me at least.
This class was very challenging and I honestly did not expect it to be this difficult. I thought it would be a walk in the park for the most part but I was wrong in the first graded assignment I received. Mr. Valverde does a great job of giving out the information we need and letting us do the rest. He is a strict grader but that a great teacher.
Professor Valverde is a great professor that I have ever had! Explained the material understandably. Professor Valverde gave awesome feedback on my papers. Professor Valverde made me work for the grade I want.
Professor V can improve on specifying more on assignment and instructions. Overall he lectures very well and modernizes difficult topics at a level that the class could comprehend.
Extra credit is offered and that is always a great opportunity for students! I don't think Professor V. needs to improve on anything , he's teaching skills are at a college level.
Professor Valverde is a good teacher, but i personally do not like him! The fact that he goes around class and takes students food is not the business, He is also overly sarcastic which can get annoying. He know how to teach a class though. he is a very tough grader and he needs to loosen up a bit.
Hes a good teacher, just when it comes to grading he can be harsh, Valverde can use help on explaining things. Sometimes it feels like he doesnt know what he wants and its hard as a student to understand what he wants..
I mean his personality is pretty cool but when it comes to grading he wants something totally different then what is asked. He's good at lectures though.
He is very strict with grading. You can go to class everyday, do all your assignments, and extra credit and can still fail. The exams you better make sure u do well are it's a wrap. This professor is very difficult.
He is a good professor, class is fun but a really tough grader.
Mr. Valverde has been the best professor I have encountered at SMCC. The man sets the bar high for his students, and I applaud him for that. Community college professors can learn a thing or two from him. Take this class if you value the quality of your education. Tips: Read the textbook. The material is deeper than what is presented in class.
Prof L is a hilarious professor he definitely keeps the class live that's what I like about this class. He is a tough grader so when you think you understand the work and doing well it can backfire. Being in his class sometimes I feel like I'm at ASU because he is TOUGH.
Professor Valverde is overall a great professor. His lectures are fun, yet really interesting and a lot of material is covered at once. He is definitely a tough grader. Even though attendance is not required, he is very specific when it comes to grading an assignment or a test and pays a lot of attention to format.
Very tough grader!
This class was definitely the hardest class I have taken thus far, but kept me from slacking off in the effort I gave. I was spoiled in other classes, knowing I would get an A with minimal effort. I won't be getting an A with maximum effort in this class, but I met some great people and learned a lot!!
Prof. V is a good teacher. He is passionate about teaching and going above and beyond. But with that being said, he is a tough grader and has high standers. He defiantly sets the bar. I would not take a class with him again because I feel like there is no leniency in our exams and assignments.
Very funny, and outgoing teacher but a real tough grader.
This was my first semester in college and professor Valverde was a great instructor, he made me feel welcomed. He taught me everything I needed to know and made it fun at the same time. Class was never boring having him as a teacher. He always gives helpful feedback with essays and always explains what you did wrong thoroughly.
Professor V. made the lectures really interesting where both the students and the teacher did interacting to figure out the lesson. When ever we were given our papers back, he gave really good feedback on basically everything. Overall, i would most definitely take him again; amazing teacher.
Mr. V is definitely a very tough grader. He makes class interesting with his unique personality. This class had nothing to do with my major, I just took it because it sounded interesting and it really messed me up. There is really never any surprises, he will always tell you what he is looking for in tests and his essays.
Professor Leo Valverde, he makes his classes really interesting, yeah he is a tough grader. Also, he takes his time after class to help you and guide you over the material.
Master Jedi V, is a great teacher. He doesn't require attendance but it is highly recommended you go to class. The lectures keep you entertained and involved in the class. He is a tough grader though but he gives great feedback one your assignments. The assignments are mainly essays.
Really enerjetic and highspirited
Professor Leo V is an amazing professor. He doesn't stick to the traditional way of teaching, he's very energetic and funny. He is a tough grader but he's the type of teacher to stay with you after class to help with improvement.
Pretty honest guy. You give what you put it, just make sure to read everything word for word and you'll be good.
Professor V. is a great teacher and is always full of energy so it reflects on his class. He does a great job at involving the students when he is teaching. Make sure you pay attention to the detail when he's talking though because he puts some of his favorite shows on the text for extra credit. Grades essays very seriously. Good luck !
Always do the reading ahead of time. He knows when you dont read and if nobody reads, the lecture is harder for you. He will literally give you everything you need to pass the class. Overall challenging but smooth going class.
Professor Valverde is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives you everything you need in order to pass his class. Students just make it harder on themselves. He also gives very funny examples. The one thing I didn't enjoy is how much time we got to take the first exam.
Mr. Leo is a great professor that like to teach what he knows about crime. He is just a tough grader i would say.
Very educational course to take, although I have to admit Professor V. is a TOUGH GRADER. The slightest error in your work can bring a whole letter grade down. (Not so easy to improve) Possible, but not not easy.
Mr. Leo is a very tough grader and lectures heavy but at the end of the day you will learn!
Profesor Valverde calls himself a defense attorney but lacks knowledge on laws that have been overturned. He is bad at grading and deducts a lot of points for one error. My advice, save money and save time and take another professor. If you cherish your time and money, take another professor.
I actually enjoyed this class for the most part, because I did learn more then expected. The only thing I disliked was the overly sarcasm when asked a question. Referring on what we could've, should've, would've done. Challenging class but interesting.
Extra credit opportunities, fun lectures, accessible after class, willing to help. Come to class you understand competencies. Essays are very important! LEARN APA!!! Follow instructions, its what he asks for. Be respectful because this is a mentor you want to have on your side if you decide to work in criminal justice.
Professor Valverde is a great professor. He keeps you involved in the class discussions, which makes it easier to learn the information. Be prepared for class, always do the readings, and get familiar with APA FORMAT ASAP! Only thing I wish he'd do differently is when a student ask a question be more helpful instead of making you feel dumb.
Tough grader. So tough, you might want to quit. If you take a class course with professor Leo you will walk out with so much knowledge and inspiration.
Mr. Valverde is a very tough grader but a fair one at best. You can not come into this class thinking you will get an easy A like every other class in Community College. He will lead you to success with every opportunity he can give you such as extra credit, tips, great feedback and much more. Tough but definitely would take again.
Mr. Valverde gives you everything you need in order to be successful. If you do not care to show any will or motivation in learning about criminal justice he will put you on the spot. He is an awesome funny teacher but can be savage at times in the way he shows students up who don't take the class seriously. Awesome teacher though.
The grading was far more tough than any other professor I have ever had. Unnecessary if you ask me, had a couple papers graded by other teachers and they both said that the grading was off in their opinions (both English majors and English professors). I feel that I should have been graded more on knowledge of the subject instead of English skills.
This class is very informational and fun to learn about. However, writing papers for this class are very difficult. Expectations are set extremely high, it is very hard to receive an A
Mr. Valverde is a tough grader on essays but he gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities to make up for it. His lectures are insightful and knowledgeable so it's important that you show up to class in order to not miss a thing. He wants all his students to succeed, don't be afraid to talk to him one on one or ask questions!
He has a method to his madness, and everything he tells you he tells you for a reason. He truly cares about his students and tries his very best to make sure you are successful in not only his class, but in life in general.
Great teacher, gives you all the resources you need to succeed in his class. He is a bit rough on the grading, but it is to make you better in the future.
Great instructor, although he is the toughest grader I have ever encountered, I actually learned a lot. The grade you receive will determine how much you put into it.
He is one of the best Professors I have had. To me though he tends ton grade a little harsh he does give great feedback on how to improve on next assignments. He involves the whole class during the lecture in a way which you want to participate. As long as you communicate to him your struggles he tries to help as much as he can.
By far one of the real professors I've had in college. He knows what he talks about and he makes things easier to comprehend. His class may be super tough, but he gives us everything we need to succeed. If you want a good grade in his class, then expect to get to work the moment you go in there.
Great professor! Very informed in what he presents in class and makes things easy to comprehend. He makes you work for the grade that you want so I'd recommend to try your very best.
One of the toughest, yet best professors I've had. He knows the material so well and he makes things easier to learn. I'd definitely take again.
Great lecturer! Tough grader. You definitely have to know your stuff and participate when it comes to it. This class is hard, but so worth it.
The toughest grader I have ever had. Makes you work double for a grade. Hes a great lecturer and will inspire you everyday. I would 10/10 recommend to a friend because he will make you cry and question your intelligence.
Leos classes are only for the daring. Prof Leo V is like an acquired taste, it takes time for you to realize why he runs his class the way he does, if you dont like him then acquire some taste bc Criminal Justice is no joke and he will prove that to you. 100% recommend, college is expensive so you might as well have a mentor who wants to teach you.
Leo Valverde is a very smart professor and really knows his stuff. This means he is a very heavy grader and his class is not a "walk in the park"
Professor Valverde used to be a defense attorney so get ready to learn the law. His classes are very challenging, you will do a lot of APA papers throughout the semester. Everything in his class is very heavily graded and if you do not prepare you will easily fail his class.
Professor is a really good teacher. Very in-tuned with everyone participating in class. Participation can really go a long way and the fact that he pushed for participation so early into the class really helped me want to be more involved and focused on my learning. You never know when he will call on you to answer a question so knowing is a must.
This teacher is a difficult grader but you get exactly what you earned. Aside from the grading, you will actually learn the material and will be engaged in class. Hard work and knowledge of what will be covered will help you pass this class.
I took procedural criminal law (AJS260) with Leo Valverde. Valverde is the toughest grader I have had my entire college career which says a lot about the SMCC and their professors. There is not a lot of work but he is a very tough grader. Participation and attendance matters. If you take this class be prepared to work. You get the grade you earn.
One thing I really liked about the course is that Dr. V is so understanding. He will really work with you on what ever you need help on but you have to meet him half way. Even though, he is easy-going he is a harsh grader. Making the class difficult but by doing the work, showing up to class, and READING THE TEXT BOOK the course is worth it.
One thing I like about his class was that he gives you everything you need to pass his class. His class is hard and if you can't take his challenge then don't do it because one thing that sucks is the essays. They are simple just need to know how to explain the simple information. He's honestly a great teacher if your competitive take his class.
One thing about this course that I enjoyed is the level of difficulty and the way that we are interacted with. As opposed to just reading the material and moving on, we to into detail and talk about the topics. One thing I disliked about the class was how fast we moved from topic to topic.
Professor Valverde is a very tough and strict grader. His lectures are very useful and has plenty of good information and he always answers any questions. As a tough professor he has extra credit that can help you raise you're grade.
If you're the type of student of student that is used to getting A's goodluck. He will make you work for it.
Professor Valverde is a great teacher who can give great information and lectures, his presentations are perfect. however, since he once was a defense attorney I feel Valverde is too hard on students about the material they are trying to learn, he sarcastically makes fun of students who mistakenly answer questions wrong. His grading is very harsh.
This class was one of the most difficult Ive taken in my few years of school. Because the grading was really harsh to the point were one feels like none of the work is good enough. I would most definitely not retake this class again.
Mr. Valverde is not like your averge teachers. He bring a strong energy into the class room and can be every interactive with the class. Conversations will never be dawl and you can count that you will have to work har to find the answer. He will make you think about the logic and most of all he will make you a better thinker.
If you decide to take a course, be ready to actually work for your grade. As much work as you put in is as much as you will see when it comes to your grade. The lectures are full of information and you will leave this class with more knowledge than when you started.
If there was one thing i would change is maybe he could sit down with students and talk to them about the papers. yes he dose put alot of comments on your papers. But i feel like some students need that one on one to help them imporve. it may be a little scary to go up to your teacher. I feel one on one mettings would help students alot.
A stressful and righteous class. But, can be very helpful at times.
A stressful and righteous class. But, can be very helpful at times. 8:30 class
Prof. Valverde is teaches AJS however when it comes to how he grades, you will feel like you're in an English class. I understand it is an online class but it seems no matter what information I have on my paper it seems he is more concerned about the grammatical errors, It can be very discouraging writing the next paper.
I am a solid A-B student. I read the assignments, study, and produce A-B worthy work consistently. This professor nitpicks every little detail of your writing, he hardly pays attention to the content and if you are understanding. No matter what you do it isn't good enough and he has successfully thrown my confidence in writing into the garbage.
