Very good teacher, lectures are well organized and well presented. He's very knowledgeable and grades fairly. Class in interesting and interactive. He expects a lot of class participation, however, which is tough in the morning.
Really nice guy, tries to be funny, doesn't let you out early, but I'd reccommend him anyway.
way too much useless info, not enough clarity
Great teacher because he knows economics like the back of his hand, learn a lot. Don't ever plan on leaving early but the class goes by fast because it is non stop.
Good professor. And admittedly, easy -- if you do the work. I took his course online and while sometimes the intsructions were muddled or late he still gives high grades for thorough work. And there was only one final exam. Overall, as far as challenging, on a scale fo 1 - 10, I give microeconomics a 4.5
Do not take...grades very hard and takes off uneccessary points
Terrible teacher. Grades tests extremely hard. Takes off for every little mistake. Unclear about reasons for his grades. Try to avoid.
The tests in this class were absolutely ridiculous. In no other class have I ever received a 8.3 on a 10 point question. His grading system for exams makes little to no sense. His lectures canbe boring sometimes. Overall he isn't a bad guy but his exams can be extremely difficult to to the way he grades.
Professor Battista really knows Economics and brings current issues in class. He teaches fairly well; his tests could be challenging, but you just have to study and explain the concepts with your own words so that he knows you understand. His class is not easy but if you study you can really learn a lot!
gives very short notice of tests, gives incomprehensible class notes, difficult tests, and has an attendance policy for his 8am classes. I used my old professor for office hours because this guy barely has any.
I liked the style of the class. We sat there the whole entire time, every single class, taking notes while just listening to him lecture. Some would probably say he is boring. Decent tests, a couple of writing assignments. He did mention real world issues every day which made it somewhat interesting.
DO NOT TAKE FOR QU201. Takes class way too seriously. Class discussions each class about reading followed by journal questions about the reading. Too many writing assignments. QU is supposed to be a class you shouldn't worry about since it's not a core class, but I spent most of my time doing work for QU. AVOID!!!
Class was boring, he is a hard grader, and he does not tell us, in the class notes, everything on the test so you have to find out for yourself.
Able to take great notes. He rambles and you never know what he's talking about. Tests are really hard, even when you make a study guide. He's a tough grader.
Although his class was hard, I learned so much from him! His tests are all essay so they're difficult but if you go to his office hours he will help you with anything you don't get. He explains everything in 10 different ways to make sure everyone understands, he is overall a great teacher!
Very tough grader. Always gives back assignments with notes but his handwriting is impossible to read so he may as well write nothing at all. Very knowledgeable about the subject matter and is willing to help. Again, a very tough grader.
make sure you go to class always has a lot of notes, not very organized, tells you about a test a week before, tells you about writing assignments a week before, read the book along it makes it very helpful, lectures can be boring, takes attendance, take detailed notes and look at study guide, not organized notes
As long as you keep up with your readings and participate in class, you will breeze through the class with little difficulty. This professor is very clear with new topics by offering examples and describing the meanings of new terms and rules. Making study guides for yourself will help for tests I wish I had him for macro this semester.
He is good professor. Honestly just show up for class and pay attention write down everything from the board but understand what you write down. His test arent hard he just likes detail and specifics. Just pay attention in class and you wont have to read the book as his lectures are very by the book.
Hands down the hardest course I have ever taken in my entire life. The lectures are long and brutal, the teacher doesn't make the class interesting and sounds like the teacher from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The textbook is horrible and is beyond unorganized, toughest grader on tests Ive ever had, and the material makes no sense in general.
knows SO much about the subject, really is a great professor. Lectures are long but you learn a lot from him, he's helpful with office hours. Read along in the book, take good notes, ask questions and you'll pass. If you use detail and specifics on test you'll do fine. Fun fact: friends and I looked him up on facebook, his daughter's hot
Looking past his tough attendance policy, I would choose this professor over many other economic professors at Quinnipiac. He teaches you the book, but in his own style, which means it is a MUST to take notes. His test are easy if you read the chapter over once and study your notes . The class is easily passable, but Warning: THE FINAL IS NOT EASY.
He's a good professor and is clearly passionate about what he does, which is rare. If you show up and give him your undivided attention and take notes, you will be on his good side. Don't be late or skip class, don't talk or go on your phone in class (he will call you out.) READ the chapter and take good notes. Tests are hard unless you prepare.
No assigned homework (aside from 3 writing assignments), so it is up to you to read the chapter and make sure you understand the material. Class can sometimes drag on, but he's a genuinely good guy and wants everyone to do well
I took Battista at HCC & I actually enjoyed his class. Doesn't lecture straight from the book, fair grader, not that many assignments overall. I have an A in the class and had a ton of trouble in my micro class w a prof who taught straight from the book. While macro isn't a ton of fun, he teaches well and you learn a lot
Battista is a great professor that explains everything he talks about and always has an answer for your question. You will have to put in the work for the grade, but as long as you attend class and participate, you will get bonus points on your final grade which is cool. I would recommend him to anyone who has to take the class.
I had Professor Battista for both EC 111 and EC 112. If you're a student willing to show up to every class, take notes and be ready to learn, you will do well in his class. He allows you to become a better student. Tests are hard, but he knows this and will curve. If you're willing to make the effort for a good grade, I would highly recommend hm.
All the material is online for you to access and self learn throughout the class. He is very clear about posting to the blackboard on time, and responding to others in a timely manner. However, I feel he could have had more interaction on the discussion board and better feed back on assignments/quiz results. I could never which ones were wrong.
Don't take him trust me! You will have to learn everything from the textbook. He doesn't give any form of notes; sometimes he writes on the board but doesn't really help when your studying for a test/quiz . He goes on tangent and stories that have nothing to do with what your learning and by the class ends you will be confused.
He is a horrible prof. He goes on about irrelevant things. He does take attendance so show up and do not be late. The quizzes are all online and his test are difficult. We did not even touch the book so just buy the access code. He is hard to get out of class. No extra credit offered. He barely puts notes up and you will be lucky if theyre legible
He is a horrible online professor, never gives credit when it's do. Not understandable nor communicates with his students. Does not go by the syllabus with the assignments. I will never take a class with him again
He's honestly a solid professor. I had him for micro as well and I think he improved the lectures for macro greatly. Study hard, Read the textbook, and meet with him outside of class and you will do well.
His lectures are so confusing. He writes notes on the board that are illegible and difficult to understand. I had to teach myself all the material outside of class, despite showing up to every class. He does offer extra credit, but you'll go through the semester questioning if you'll pass.
Teaching style is different although he does give you lots of information that is on the test. No weekly homework just 4 test and a few online quizzes. One of my earlier classes
Gives unnecessary papers that are barely relevant. Coursework is not hard and most of it you can teach yourself through the textbook. Pearson does a better job than he does at teaching. He will ramble on about unnecessary nonsense and go on tangents about irrelevant stories instead of prepping for an exam. Good luck if you get him.
made the biggest mistake of listening to the good comments and willing to give him a shot 1 his writing completely ineligible on the board. 2 rambles about useless stories cuz he likes to hear himself talk. 3 doesn't teach you anything for quizzes and tests, you NEED to teach yourself from the book and watch youtube videos, DONT make my mistake....
Professor Battista is really a nice guy who tries his best. He gives pretty boring lectures and you won't be able to understand his handwriting whatsoever. The class isn't impossible but you need to read the textbook hardcore prior to exams. He uses blackboard meticulously and an online classroom code for quizzes. The tests are hard on the low.
The worst professor. He will call on you at least 2 times per class without raising your hand. If you miss three classes it will effect your grade tremendously. HARD tests. Mostly online quizzes that are not found online. Assigns 4 papers total and they are all irrelevant. I WOULD NOT recommend him especially for freshman.
He made this class way harder than it should have been. If you miss more than three classes it affects your grade. His tests are ridiculously hard and you have to teach yourself all of the material. He basically just rambles on about irrelevant information for the entire class. Do not take him. I barely passed.
must pay attention in class, ask questions
He really does want everyone to just try their best... Now, everyone's version of "their best" varies... so he can get snippy when there is chatter. His exams are tough, some questions directly out of the textbook practice problems. I can tell the man is passionate about the economy, but sometimes the passion can be hard to comprehend 100%.
350 characters are nowhere close enough to describe all the flaws this professor has. He rambles about irrelevant information the entire class and is completely useless unless you ask him VERY pointed questions. Takes off points on tests for ridiculous things. His teaching style is horrendous. Don't waste your time taking him you will regret it.
There are so many reasons why you should avoid this man at all costs, I could go on forever. To put it simply though, if you care about your grades take ANYONE ELSE!
Just do NOT take him. Makes zero sense. Nothing he talks about in class relates to anything on any quiz or test. Almost impossible to get a good grade. Expects you to just know everything without him explaining a single thing clearly. His notes on the board are chicken scratch and does not care about his students being successful whatsoever.
Had him for the 2.5 hour long night class. Was a long and slow night. Caring professor and very intelligent. Very hard to read handwriting though and only writes on the board.
Worst Professor I've had at QU so far. hw is due on the weekends and he won't open it until Thursday. Sits and talks the entire class about stuff that's never on tests. makes u fall asleep. 4 writing assignments in an econ class and gives disc. boards that are hard, grades like hes the gestapo. loves his own voice. can't read his writing. DONT TAKE
This class is horrible. I have tried everything to match up to his style of teaching. Youll think youre ready for the quizzes until you see them. Youll try everything you can and still get horrible grades. Its not worth it. Save yourself.
I thought I was losing my mind until I read comments from other students. You can study his lectures, the book, homework, and whatever else you'd like, but be ready to be totally surprised at some of the questions on his quizzes. I thought I was missing something but apparently, I'm not alone in feeling this way. He's a good guy. Quizzes are HARD.
He basically just lectures constantly and when students ask questions seems bothered that they stopped him from talking. There's no prep for tests which he gives often and he always has to curve them. I'm sure he's a nice guy but I'd rather take anyone else on this campus. I don't want to be harsh but he was just such a bad teacher.
Don't know how this professor has a job. Avoid at all costs
Just a horrible proffesor. Cannot be understood at all as nobody in the class knows what this guy is saying or doing.
Incoherently babbles for the entirety of the class. He stands right in front of the board while he's using it so you can't see, but it's not like seeing the chicken scratch will help you understand the material anyways. Avoid at all cost.
You have to listen to every single word coming out of his mouth, or you wont learn anything. He writes on the board but every word is shortened and in horrible unreadable handwriting. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR, tests have material not covered in class.
This guy is the most boring professor I have ever spoken too. not engaging and no life in the class. His lectures also cover maybe 10% of the reading so make sure you stay on top of the reading
Very nice guy but he goes off topic a lot and I cannot keep my eyes open in his class, you have 30 minutes to do 30 question quizzes and the exams are impossible. You have to teach yourself the entire lesson.
This class was dreadful. Professor Battista is very passionate about Microeconomics, but the way he teaches is not beneficial for students who need interaction and class discussions. Be prepared for long lectures and just sitting in your desk confused. The analogies he uses may be helpful to some, but if you don't understand the topic good luck.
You will need to study a lot. Grade system is great (drops 3 lowest quiz grade, 1 written assignment, 1 test) but that is only because people do bad in his class. Would not recommend, help yourself and take someone else.
he is hard, not a bad person but just too much quizzes and tests
The worst professor I have ever had. He started last semester by going on and on about analogies that did not connect to class discussions. I once asked him what I am supposed to be taking notes on in class and he responded with "just read the book". He is a friendly guy but not a good professor. Would not take again. If you have him, transfer out.
Just no
If you want a Professor that does not care about your work and does not want you to succeed, then this class is just for you. He loves to give out homework assignments that take hours to complete and you can't even check if your work is right or not until you submit the assignment. Only does problems from the textbook in class. Test every 2 weeks.
Prof. Battista gives strictly paper exams that are long. He is insanely boring to the point where you can't pay attention to anything he says. Students often find themselves dozing off. Don't take unless you want to teach yourself everything in the entire class.
Professor Battista truly does care about his students and their grades. The best way to describe his class is that you get out what you put in. As long as you pay attention during class and read the textbook on your own you will do fine on the quizzes. Quizzes are very difficult, but he scales them.
I really like Battista! He is a really nice guy who truly cares about his students. You just need to read the textbook and do the practice problems at the end of each chapter. The multiple choice is difficult, but he curves it. Just put effort into this class and you will do good!!
Worst professor that I've ever had. He just sits at the front of the room every single class rambling on and yapping about nothing helpful. At least one quiz a week and even posts them on breaks. Insanely hard grader who is unorganized and a complete eye sore (hard to look at). Isn't interactive with the class by any means. HATE! Please Stay Away!
Choose any other professor for economics.
Leon is a great guy and a great teacher. I saw all these negative reviews about him so I was very nervous. But I soon realized that all you have to do is show that you care about the class and what he is teaching. I talked to Leon about my grade because I was in a position to fail the class and he showed me that I can actually pass! Really nice guy
Professor Battista wants to help everyone pass the class. I was very worried about my grade but, when I spent the time to reach out to him and ask for help it really made a difference. Yes the tests are hard, but if you ask questions and reach out it will help you pass.
Lectures are incredibly boring, disorganized and very hard to follow. Grading is only based on quizes and homework which isnt awful, but he isnt very accesible outside of class, and therefore you need to often times rely on outside help for the class. Im sure there are much worse professors than him, but try to avoid.
he is the absolute worst professor ever. he doesn't actually teach, his quizzes aren't like homework, and you cant access him outside of class. literally choose any other professor
you will have a quiz almost every week. the week leading up to the quiz, he will tech the next chapter, not the one that the quiz is on. his office hours are not when you need them. he basically talks to you instead of teaches. he is awful at teaching. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!
Professor Batista is a literal joke, i had to self-teach myself the entire course, because his lectures were so awful and difficult to follow. His grading is tough, his tests have content we havent practiced, and hes' incredibly hard to reach outside of class, Ive already communicated with the university along with other students about him
what a horrendous professor. I have never done so poorly in a class. Ive reached out to him, communicated with classmates and got tutoring and nothing helps. you will have a quiz every week and that is what your grade it depending on. but if you think that up to the quiz youl'll talk about that chapter, youre wrong. 0/10 do not take him
DO NOT TAKE BATTISTA! You will have to self teach yourself every week. My tutor doesn't even understand his concepts and material. The homework and quizzes are two different things, he basically makes his own quizzes. If you can take anyone else, DO IT.
Battista is the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take him unless you plan on teaching yourself all the material. The University needs to consider getting rid of him, but they never will because he curves all of his assessments so it doesn't look bad on his part but instead the students, & no the curve does not help in the slightest.
Very great guy but his teaching methods are horrible. Outside of the class one on one, I understand the material better but he does curve the quizzes and test but it may not be enough for you to pass. Even the homework was beyond difficult. Going to have to set apart extra time from your other classes to study, not impossible to pass but good luck.
Battista is a nice guy but his class is near impossible. Doesn't teach the material in a comprehensive way and you're left out to dry to teach yourself. Hard grader, curves tests but it's not nearly enough
Quizzes are impossible. Attendance is very mandatory. Stands in front of the board while he writes gibberish and talks nonsense. Class is very fast-paced and he crammed two quizzes the week before FINALS for our class. I have never received grades this low and bad in math. He is robbing students of their potential to raise their GPA. Do NOT take.
Professor Battista is not capable of teaching math in a way that is helpful and only relies on a few problems within the book. When it is time to study, you have no material to help you and you are forced to teach yourself the entire way through as he is horrible at lecturing and cannot get through to his students. Relies way too much on the book.
He actually wasn't that bad. If you read the book and grasp the understanding of what you're learning you'll be fine. He drops some of your lowest grades at the end of the semester and quizzes are open note on your own with a few attempts. Pay attention and learn the content and you'll be fine.
I saw a lot of the reviews of Prof Battista said that the class was boring and that he was boring. I found that he appears to be very passionate about the topic of Macro Econ and delivers his lectures with so much enthusiasm. The subject is boring as anything but I think he is a great prof and does care about us just pay attention.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had. His classes consist of him rambling aimlessly the entire time while writing illegible notes on the board. The test didn't match the content of the course. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.
It is very lecture-heavy but relates many things to real-world examples, which allows students to stay engaged. Battista truly cares about his students, and his grading on tests is generous with curves and study guides, precisely like the tests. (harsh on late assignments, but just turn in your work on time)
Never again... bro just talks without good info. All he posts is quizzes and exams are nothing like his lectures. be prepared to fail... bro even drops an exam and 3 quizzes. HE KNOWS HES BAD...
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to his class
This professor actually makes me want to never show up to school again. He is honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had so far at QU. All of his lectures are never going to help you on a test or quiz since he makes them so much different from each other. If you can take anyone else, I would highly recommend it. Worst professor out there.
worst teacher i ever had, don't take him as a teacher. made me hate economics. tests are impossible. and if you skip class even for an emergency, sick, funeral, etc... he doesn't care, will mark you absent
Actually the worst. Don't take him.
I honestly would never take him again. Class is a complete waste of time, he rambles about anything but economics and does not corrlate to the exams at all. If you have to take him just study the powerpoints he posts. There are no exceptions for absences, even for sickness with doctors note. He is not lenient or understanding of anything.
Made up random assignments that made absolutely no sense and where abnochus to understand, would not take him again if he was the last teacher avalible. DONT TAKE HIM!!!
I think that this is the worst Professor of all time. First of all, he barely gives extra credit, and when he does, it is very little. When you are taking his exams, be ready to study material that willn ot be on the test. Lectures are mostly him talking for the entire time, and he has no class engament. PLS DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR YOUR OWN GRADE!!!
I had to teach myself the entire course. There were many quizzes and tests and I always felt overwhelmed by this class, he does drop a few of your lowest grades but he does not teach in a way for students to be engaged or learn about the topic. It was very hard to follow along, he has bad hand writing and is also very quiet.
