cool teacher! clear! you don't have to buy the book but listen to him very carefully, all material in test are in his lecture all short essay. COME TO CLASS!! or you'll be dropped, come on time, funny and sometimes sarcastic, but he's cool. like to take him again.
Ennis is the man! He is a fun and cool teacher and his test are not that hard. All you have to do is study his notes and you will pass the class.
Great teacher. Read three chapters in the book and then just went off his lectures and got a B. Really understandable class if you make some effort and pay attention. He's an admitted amateur wine connoisseur. Very funny.
His class was very easy, very slow about getting test scores back. And he has his pets in class. But was very cool to take his class.
Everything is in his notes for his test's and quizes. His test's are short answer, and he will make fun of you if you put a really bad answer for the question.
HE COVERS EVERYTHING THAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON THE TEST. HE'S VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT HISTORY & MAKES A BORING SUBJECT VERY INTERESTING. HE'S EXTREMELY FUNNY BUT THOUROUGHLY COVERS THE MATERIAL.
Mr.Ennis is passionate about History and makes class as interesting as possible. Tests and Exams are easy if you review his lecture notes, some questions are based on literature from the assigned readings so do read the book. The book is bone dry, allow time for naps during your study sessions as the book used will bore you to a nap!
Ennis is cool but he uses the same jokes over and over. But that's ok because at least he's trying. The class is easy. Listen to his lectures and read important sections of the book and you'll do fine!
Funniest guy in the world. He cracks all the slackers, but is a really good teacher. Just look at the notes and listen and you'll get an A
He is a very good teacher. If you study his power point you'll be fine in his class. Easy A everybody... Also he has a graet sense of humor. You'll have 2 quizes and 3 exams short answer. Very easy...
Super easy class. He's a cool teacher. Just listen to his lectures and you'll be fine. Take note of when he says "this will be on your test" because more than 100% of the time, it IS on the test.
Great teacher..Easy. Loves athetic students. he LOVES history and he puts his heart into the lectures. Thats what makes him a great teacher. Go to his extra credit videos, they are fun. Take notes and pay listen in class and you will be fine. Also print out his power points...made it alot easier!
Ennis is extremely funny! I wish the tests and quizes were multiple choice or something because fill in the blank is hard for me. The lectures are on blackboard, so make sure to print them out and bring them to class. He keeps you awake compare to a normal history class
Mr. Ennis is very knowledgeable in his area. I enjoy attending his course, he does a great job of keeping you interested.
best history prof. i've ever had, in my whole life!! i hated history before his class, but he made me like it, and he's hilarious!! have to go to all classes, and pay attention, i didn't use the book and got a B, TAKE HIM!
i hope he willl help me to pass my class
Possibly the worst professor I have ever had. Spend the majority of class time talking about food or ridiculing students for subpar grades due to poor teaching and their lack of English as a native language. Even though I speak English as a first language I am personally offened by him every class period.
Passionate, only word I can think of to describe him. Easily my favorite professor at Grossmont (which is tough, I've found some great ones), The class itself isn't the easiest, the tests are tough as they are short answer but it's one of the few classes that I truly feel has a personal impact on me. He also takes a genuine interest in his students
He's a great teacher! Really passionate about History and he really gets you into the subject if you pay attention. Show up to class because he hates it if you're tardy or not even there. His tests are all short essay questions, so you got to actually pay attention. If you want an "A" just attend class and go over his notes and just use the book fo
This is one of the greatest teachers I've had.His quizzes and exams are all short-answer questions, but if you study and come to class you'll get an easy "A" He encourages his students to participate, and if you don't, he'll force you to. The only bad thing is about him is that he makes fun of everyone, and I don't find that very nice. Overall, goo
this teacher never gives reviews for up coming test and to top it off he will suprise you with a test wont even tell when its gonna be oh yeah dont eat in the class cause he will eat your food besides he talks crap to the people who arnt doing good in the class very very very rude
This is the best college professor I have ever had! He has a great sense of humor and is very passionate about History. He tells you what will be on the test, so you know exactly what to study, and he lets you know when quizes are coming. I didnt know how much I appreciated history until I took classes with him.
Great teacher. Relates early american history to our individual lives and really gets you thinking. he messes with students a lot and acts like an **** but shows that he's obviously a good person when he shares his personal opinions about history. just dont be late, he preaches about it everyday. (yet he's a couple mins late almost everyday)
Prof Ennis is defnatly passionate about history, and knows what he wants out of his students. He definatly doesn't tolerate tardiness, absences, or cell phones. But if you go pay attention and study you should do fine. He always tells you whats on the tests but words it oin a way that makes it hard to get full credit. But i learned a lot.
His jokes are corny but can also be funny, he is a straight forward teacher who is very passionate about his subject so it is not the least bit boring.I passed both his classes HIST 108 & 109 without the book and just studying his powerpoints and using flashcards. He is also strict on attendance but his class is worth it.He looks like Peter Griffin.
Mr. Ennis made History extremely facinating. Great teacher.. I have never been the good student, but in his class I decided to sit in front and actually listen. He tells you whats on the test inyour notes..so be sure to use a highlighter to mark what you need to know.study that stuff. and you will get an A, like i did. Take his class, you'll learn.
Great professor...helps you get a good great and understand the material, whether you like it or not:)
ENNIS WAS A GREAT TEACHER. I AM NOT A HISTORY PERSON AT ALL AND HE MADE IT INTERESTING. HE GOES OFF ON TANGENTS ABOUT FOOD BUT YOULL UNDERSTAND WHY. IF YOU ATTEND CLASS AND TAKE NOTES YOULL PASS NO PROBLEM, HE TELLS YOU WHATS ON THE TESTS BEFORE YOU TAKE THEM YOU JUST HAVE TO LISTEN. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
BEST HISTORY TEACEHR EVER, very passionate about history and def knows alot. Attendance is very important. Total of 2 quizes and 3 exams all short answer but easy. No need for the book at all, just study his powerpoints and you'll get an A
He is a great teacher! He makes learning the material rather easy. He loves to tease people.
Amazing teacher. Very passionate loves his job and makes history very interesting.
Tells you what is expected on tests, however you must go into detail on test answers. Class is very thorough, but you must put in time studying.
When I was struggled, he didn't even try to help and just said 'go drop the class'. Very useless teacher. Probably good for those who know the material already and don't have to ask him questions. Tests are NOT multiple choices.
thought he was going be easier, not entirely. your final grade is based on 3 tests some extra credit. he would talk about food and cars for a whole class and rush through some other stuff before the test. study the slide shows and what he "tell" you is on the test, sometimes ambiguous. over the top with the bleeding heart for history.
He lectured all class long and rushed through the chapters. Didn't give any study guides for the tests, all the knowledge you had was whatever he lectured. However he did offer random extra credit but I wouldn't recommend him.
I had him for 108 and it was such an easy class. You have to show up to class don't be late!2 quizzes and 3 tests, no papers or cumulative tests. Short answer tests but the questions are so easy, way easier than a MC test. He tells you exactly what will be on the test and doesn't lie or trick you. You don't need the book. Will be taking for 109!
If you want to learn every single incident about modern US history with the best professor, this is the right class for you. Professor Ennis clarifies the materials. His lectures are interesting. You have to come to class to understand the materials and to know what will be on the test.
This class is amazing! Great teacher, very funny. Best lecture I have ever sat through. Attendance is mandatory, otherwise you might get dropped. 2 quizzes, 3 tests. Very straight forward and tells you what you will be tested on. Test are short answer, I don't like this. Need to remember ALOT of material in this class. Overall wonderful class :)
This instructor has become strict, moody, and unfriendly this semester. Human being=flesh and blood.I did not like when he punished all students because some students had written their classmates names on the sheets for extra credit movie, and he deducted those points from our exam papers directly, which was not fair. Then, we had to write two pape
Mr. Ennis is awesome! He's very clear because his lectures are on a powerpoint. Best of all, no papers and no textbook required. However he doesn't tolerate tardiness and cell phone usage. Definitely take his class.
I'd say this class is challenging, but rewarding. All quizzes & tests are free answer, so you really need to know the material. He won't put anything on there that he hasn't covered or isn't in the book. Offers some extra credit. Very engaging lectures. Don't be late/absent. No phones. Very strict, but easy to talk to. Considering taking him.
Very good class. The instructor tells stories to related to the subject. Notes are extremely helpful, and the exams are straight forward. text is helpful, but not necessary. Mr. Ennis gives you all the info. you need for exams from his lectures. Very enjoyable if you can get past his coughing in his hand and then taking students food snacks.
Very good instructor. He is very helpful and his exams are straight from his notes. Per the neg. feedback they must be student who never showed up in class. He doesn't have patience for crybabies that don't come to class. He is easy if you take notes from his lectures. His xtra credit if easy and fun. I would highly recommend.
Mr. Ennis is very funny, keeps the class enjoyable. His exams and quizzes are straight forward for his power-points. His tests are not multiple choice, so you have to write 2-5 sentences for kind of each question. His gives a lot of extra credit and all you have to do is watch a movie and enjoy. Each movie is worth 10 points. I recommend him 100%
Professor Ennis is an awesome teacher ,He really enjoys history . His test are pretty simple ,just got to pay attention.after his class I really couldn't wait to take HIST 109 with him
He is a pretty funny guy and tells interesting stories. He is VERY strict about attendance and being on time (I had him at 8am). He goes over everything you need to know that's on the test. There are three tests, two quizzes and extra credit options. Pretty easy class.
I use to hate history and think is was boring. But Ennis is awesome! He made history fun and interesting. He is a funny guy, very strict though, you have to be on time and not absent or he will drop you. The class itself is pretty easy. he uses slides and gives quizzes and 3 short answer exams which he covers in class and tells you what to study.
I took those classes last semester. This class is boring and the time never end. He teaches everything on power point. you do not have to buy books. Just study the power point and you will get an A in this class. He is funny and makes fun of students. He also gave extra credits.
I took this class last semester. Mr. Ennis is funny teacher, and he uses power point to explain the lecture. You don't have to buy the book. just read the power point and you will get an A in this class. He also makes fun of students and the time never end in this class. It is a boring class.
He is a great teacher! I already loved history but after taking his class I realized how important the subject really is to society. He is strict though, and will drop you if you miss more than 2 or 3 days of class. Also he doesn't like it when you are late. I would say take this class if you want a better understanding of early American History
This teacher is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His tests are based off of his lectures. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should fail his class. Students who say he is a bad teacher are seriously dumb. I took his 108 and 109 class. He is the best history teacher ever. And he is hilarious. Just study his lectures and you will pass.
Super cool teacher. Took his 109 class during the summer and I gotta say I enjoyed it. Super clear on what he wants on test/quizzes. Cracks jokes to keep your attention and throws in a few fun facts here and there to make the subject matter more interesting. Teaches from his point of view not from the textbook. So it doesn't feel like a HS class.
Mr Ennis is a great teacher . He teaches from power points instead aren't that bad. There are only two plus the final.
Leon Ennis is a must if you intend to take an American History course at Grossmont. The man is downright hilarious and loves talking about food. Although a student may occasionally be the butt of one of his jokes, making fun of himself is the norm. Ennis makes his lectures very interesting and if you listen and take notes, you don't need to read.
Professor Ennis is very passionate about history. He can be a little too sarcastic and tends to pick on students for cheap laughs. He takes FOREVER to grade exams and quizzes. The quizzes and exams are all hand written. He claims that you need the book but honestly you don't. He is easily irritated when asked questions.
Gets very pissed if you skip class/show up late/leave early. Don't take this class if you are looking a chill/easy history class. Good professor but you really need to know your facts. Lectures are not very useful and he almost always talks about things not relevant.
Leon means well but he is a very disorganized guy and this class is NOT college level. His jokes get old after the third time hearing them and his lectures can be summed up by 30 minutes of tangents, 20 minutes of beating a dead horse, and assuming you aren't getting it when you're actually just bored. Attend at your own sanity's risk.
Ennis makes one of the most boring subjects interesting! He relates material to real life so we actually get something out of his lectures. He teaches you not only history but life long lessons that'll I forever take with you. Although he talks about a lot of controversial topics, he respects everyone's opinion and isn't biased.
one of the best prof in the camps
Ennis is really passionate about history his lectures are really interesting but his tests are long answers you really need to put effort in to writing them need to know all your facts every little detail which is annoying.
I hated history before I took this class. He uses great examples and involves the class when giving them. He jokes around a lot but he does require your attendance and isn't sympathetic to those who make excuses so come prepared and ready to learn. You won't regret taking this professor; if I could, I'd take the class again!!
If you can take sarcasm and want a professor who is passionate about history, Mr. Ennis is the one for you. Beware he will call you out if you're late, sleeping, or texting without hesitation. His class has a great structure, 2 quizzes, 3 tests (including the final), along with extra credit. Mr. Ennis does well with making his lectures engaging.
Ennis is very funny and even though history is a boring subject, he makes it fun. He relates the material to real life issues that occur in society today, which makes things interesting. His tests will be very hard for you if you don't study seeing as he doesn't do multiple choice. Overall, he's a great professor and I highly recommend him.
I love history... but not when I'm being told we're all screwed. He's passionate but assumes everyones lazy and doesn't care. It was definitely hard for me to sit through.
As someone who is passionate about history, I absolutely loved my time in his class. Ill admit, it's not an easy class. But, I'm not here for effortless classes. Mr Ennis knows what he's doing, and he's very passionate about it. If you're a history buff, this is the teacher for you. If you're looking for an easy A, what are you even doing here?
Good lectures with some breaks of humor and side stories. Everything you need to pass the class is on his power points so you dont really need the book to pass. No homework with 3 test and 3 quizzes to determine your grade, however, he grades his test hard. Gives extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester.
Professor Ennis is a solid choice for a history class. It's as simple as don't fool around on your electronics, pay attention, take notes, and do the assigned reading. He has a total of 3 exams and 3 quizzes with no homework.
Funny guy, but rude. Knowledgeable. He lectures very well and shares realistic perspectives on topics including life and history. . No homework. Easy to pass this class even without studying. However, regarding grading criteria, it's difficult to get an A (there is nothing that let you improve your grade except a few point of extra credits).
Not a bad guy. Would definitely be a good friend but professor.. not that great. Hell get into a subject and youll actually learn something then somehow were talking about hes weight or what food he likes. Class shouldnt have attendance mandatory. If you read and take good notes you can do this yourself.
Mandatory attendance, you learn everything you need in lecture but he is a VERY tough grader on tests and they are all written so you need to know your stuff. I found it very annoying how stringent he was with grading the exams and how LONG it took him to grade them, I had no idea how well I was doing in the class because of how long it took.
Hard to say... he is an interesting professor but his test is really difficult for me. I am not good at reading and remembering history, but his class definitely needs to read the textbook. He likes show us videos and some important points hide in it too. His PPT helps but you can't get A without textbook. I am afraid I get C...
Leon Martin Ennis is an amazing Professor. He leactures with great passion. For the ones complaining, this is college. His perspective on history, modern topics, and mundane life matters is extremely unique. If you are ready for a class that embodies the challenge of college and is thorough, please take Professor Leon Martin Ennis.
Mr. Ennis at first may seem like a tough professor but after a few classes he really is a great professor. He may not seem like it but he's really passionate about history. He is a pretty funny guy too and likes to mess with some students but usually the ones that start messing with him. No HW but lectures and notes are vital for passing!
Mr. Ennis is an interesting guy... he has a passionate and robust knowledge of history backed up by well-thought, interesting lectures and good metaphors. However, he couples it with a dark view of human depravity that seems hopeless at best. Can also be a little irritable at times. Still a solid choice for history. No homework, reasonable tests.
Ennis was honestly the guy that kept it real with you. You want an A? Work for it. History wasnt my favorite subject but I came to class and worked for my A. He really does know his information and loves to teach it. Grade book is 3 exam and 3 quizzes, thats it. Also on exams he makes you write all details. He is funny, made my 8am laugh a lot.
The class requires hours of reading. His lectures are clear and he goes out of his way to inform students of what is important to know to get a good grade on the test or quizzes. He does impressions of political figures in his class. Going to class is a must because his presentations are bare-bones but knows what he's talking about. NO HOMEWORK.
hands down one of the worst teachers ever, wow what a grader he is, takes about 3 months to grade a test, all he talks about is food and his wife in class and thats about it, get ready to fail, dont ever take him
The tests aren't too difficult if you have consistent attendance and take notes during lectures. Going to each class is necessary for getting an A. Other than that, personally I think he focuses on talking about his own political opinions which are a complete waste of time. Also, prepare for his conceited and temperamental attitude lol
Hes a pretty good professor overall. He only graded a few tests and quizzes but they arent too hard. I like his passion in the topics we learn, as it shows during lecturing. You will have to read from the textbook each week but thats easy. Overall I would recommend.
Looking for the most arrogant professor possible? Youve come to the right place. I gave my full effort in the midst of this pandemic, all while having strictly online classes without any at home internet, and the sole time I needed to ask for grace on an incomplete assignment, he was overtly rude and aggressive. Do not take this class.
Textbooks are required for the class, but I honestly never opened the book and finished with an A. As long as you take notes on everything he says in the lectures, you'll be set. He will often throw in an anecdote, but he's not awful. Sometimes his grading criteria seems a little wonky, but he grades fairly. Quizzes are multiple choice, tests arent
If you like history, he's the guy for you. He can come off a little overbearing at times but he's a decent teacher. As long as you pay attention and take notes, it's almost a guaranteed A in the class. He gives you plenty of wiggle room and it pretty much takes an effort to suck in this class. Not many tests but when there are tests, they're essays
This class honestly horrible. He doesnt give you the tools to succeed in this class. All it is , read read read no study guides only on the final. Lectures with no slides and just talks. I read and take notes and still get 60 on my quizzes. You have to know every single thing about every single person in history. He needs the littlest detail ever
This class kind of sucked. I just don't see what the good reviews say. I don't feel like he well prepare me for his class. Lots of reading and lots of notes and it is still not enough (average). Don't feel like he cares for his students much, felt myself struggling often even with following along. But if you like to read this class is for you.
I can not image the type of teacher he is in class and I would not want to know. Hours of reading the book and you also have to read what he post in the modules every week. Only time he has ever helped us was the midterm with a "study guide". This class has no structure. Students have to teach themselves. Good luck
If you had any sort of American history in high school, this is almost the same thing. He's clearly a nice guy and "gets" teaching. Fits the "history teachers are dad guys" trope to a T. Make sure to be very detailed on written responses and you'll probably be fine. Quizzes are easy. Only real issue is that there isn't much graded work.
Not suitable for on-line teaching. Lazy to give continuous assessments. Never taught his expectations but all the tone plagiarism. Destroying .
pretty interesting lectures
Would not recommend. He is a very tough grader.
Would not recommend this professor. Toughest grader I have ever experienced. No matter how much I read, listened to lectures, studied, there was always something wrong with my work. Not to mention the only type of learning you receive from this class is his exceedingly long and boring lectures of him just staring at the camera talking. Never again.
He's very hard, but his lectures are somewhat fun.. even tho there's no fun in history.
All his lectures have all the information you need to write the exam papers that you write, but for every paper you need to write almost the entirety of his lecture on that subject. I thankfully have a good memory and was able to pass, but other students had a harder time. He was an average teacher and funny at times. not bad, but not the best
I took the 6 week class, it was very advanced. 3 chapters a week was needed in order to be able to do the quizzes. He had 3 quizzes, 1 discussion, midterm and final. He does give the opportunity for extra credit. The midterm and final are 4 essays on selections of questions. He gives plenty of help with video lectures, PowerPoint and videos.
Do not take this professor. I have never interacted with someone more arrogant in my life. I fell ill the day midterm was due, so I asked for an extension, got one, but his reply was worded so rudely! Second issue came up, he acted like I was asking for too much. He does not care to teach, he does not care about you. Do not take this professor.
The dude was rude. I don't understand why some professors are so rude. I dropped his class so quickly. I recommend staying away from this professor and enrolling in a class where he's not your professor.
There's a lot of reading for a 6-week summer course. There's a midterm and a final which take out a large chunk of time form your week. Make sure to take notes using the study guide given for the midterm and final. The lectures can be useful, but I wouldn't use them unless necessary. Make sure to space out your readings and you should be fine.
I can understand why some students may be harsh on Professor Ennis, but he is a very clearly passionate teacher who manages to keep his lectures engaged and relates a lot of topics to real life applications. Clear grading criteria with only a couple of quizzes then 3 exams with no homework. A good professor who cares about his students.
I dropped this professor after the first 2 weeks. No guide towards what we were learning the information for and was very unclear if some of the work was even mandatory. Within the first week there was over 12 hours of videos that could easily be watched with no way of knowing which part of the information needed note taking. Would not recommend.
A lot of reading, no clear reading schedule either. lectures aren't very useful with some opinionated information. all questions quizzes are generally all of the following expect or which of the following can be accurately described type question. he is one of those teachers where he knows his class is required and doesn't plan to make it easy.
I loved Professor Ennis! He is funny and I loved his lectures. (Watch them on 1.5X speed and read along with subtitles). I am a very anxious person and sent him a lot of emails with questions and he always responded quickly with a lot of care. I took the 8 week class and while there was a bit of work, I felt like the online class was reasonable.
I loved Professor Ennis' lectures. Most were only 1 hour and he was very knowledgable and entertaining. I found I didn't need to use the supplementary resources unless I wasn't understanding something specific. The 3 quizzes are pretty basic but he looks for great detail in the 2 writing assignments. The midterm and final are 4 essays each.
Very knowledgable and applies the course content to the real world but he tends to go on long tangents. There aren't many assignments and the 3 exams are online. Writing assignments/quizzes are due before the content is even covered in class, so keep up on reading otherwise you'll be lost. He's strict on dates and attendance(can't miss more than 3)
