Dr. Hoke is very helpful and very good at explaining the economic theories. I hated economics and because of his explanations I made an A. He will make you work but you will learn.

Best teacher here at UT. He is willing to help you with anything and offers bonus points in class and for attendance. Never had any problems in this class and actually didn't mind going to it, even though it was at 8:30. Definitly worth getting up early if you can take Professor Hoke's class! Highly recommend him!

-He asks too many rhetorical questions. You never really know if he's carrying a conversation with the class or himself. -I studied like crazy for the tests, but I always ended up with C's. The tests are built to trick students. -The class could be worse, and Hoke was fun in general. Just wish he helped with studying for tests..

Makes economics humorous and memorable...full of energy even at 830 in the morning! Quizzes can be challenging at times but drops the lowest quiz grade (depending on contract in beginning of semester). Make sure you go to class and do the homework...definitely helps! You don't really need the textbook. Overall, funny little man & I recommend him.

great teacher, make sure to negotiate a good contract in begining, he will hold you to it. as long as u read the chapters and do the hw ans extra assignments/practice quizes, you will do fine on quizes. makes boring material fun.

Definitely a class worth taking. Challenging but probably the most I've learned in a class at UT. Hoke abide to the contract established at the beginning of the year and is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed.

Good professor, one of my favorites. Class isn't boring and teaches with real examples. Sometimes goes off in other directions but is a fun teacher. Grading system is pretty easy and gives you multiple chances to bring your grade. Take his ECO 204 class!

He makes the course syllabus with the class so you get to decide how you want him to run the class. Our class chose 3 extra points on our final average for attendance and every time you are absent you get half a potential extra credit point taken off. He is very funny and clear about everything. Fantastic teacher!

Hoke is definitely one of the best professors I have had so far. He is really easy to understand, only tests on one or two chapters at a time, and relates the material to real world scenarios. If you attend all of his classes he adds extra point to your final average. He is an incredible professor and he's hilarious! Take him!

Dr. Hoke in my opinion is a good teacher. I took this class my freshman year fall term. In the beginning of the first class you (the class) and Dr. Hoke will create a contract. It is very important that you state what you want. Make sure you ask for at least 2 slacks. he is a good teacher, you will do fine.

Honestly, it is a good class with a good teacher. Somewhat difficult material, but Hoke does a good job of explaining it. He uses examples of real life situations to relate to what is in the book. To get a good grade just Show up every day on time, participate, do the homework, and study for the 6 quizzes. If you do that you will be fine.

Professor Hoke is the most helpful professor at UT. Be prepared for any questions and he'll knock off any difficulties. If you debate exam questions he can give extra credit. Also, 3% extra credit to final grade for perfect attendance. Attendance is not mandatory. Don't expect an easy professor, but expect a professional one.

He is not a tough grader all of the expectations, quizzes, and assignments are clearly laid out in the syllabus so there are no surprises.

He does play games with the grading policies and the syllabus, so if you dont get his humor you might find it annoying. Everything is very clear, so as long as you follow the rules and show up to class you will do good.

Hoke teaches you more than economics. He teaches you game strategy, negotiation skills (especially with the syllabus), and contracts. Life skills that most of us will use OUTSIDE the classroom. Tests are fairly easy if you pay attention in class. Never studied for the test and still got an A. If you took Macroeconomics this should be a review!

Hoke is super smart in economics but it is difficult to make it interesting sometimes although he does his best. He can really help you understand why economics is so important. He's very dry and sarcastic and may call you out sometimes . If you're late at all, even 1 minute you will get points off and not going to class will affect your grade.

My friend and I took Hoke and loved his class. Don't listen to the negative reviews. I read them and was so nervous but then ended up getting an A. He is not an easy A, but a fair A. Probably one of my favorite professors so far at UT. While you will be in there for the whole time every class, he makes the time worth it and its interesting/funny because he's been at UT for a LONG time and has a lot of funny stories to tell and ties it in with the class. You will pass his class. He is very strict with his rules and syllabus (which the students create and you better suggest everything you can) but it is manageable. If you show up to class 2 seconds late he will mark you late/absent. The tests are hard but if you suggest a curve in the syllabus you'll be ok. Great guy outside the classroom as well.

Lee Hoke is the best professor I have ever taken here at UT. His lectures are clear and relatable and he gives a lot of extra credit. In the first couple days, he lets you make the syllabus with him. Advice - ask him for 6 quizzes rather than 3 tests. Trust me.

Dr. Hoke is one of the best professors I've taken at UT. You have to work hard to achieve the grade you want, but he is very knowledgeable about the subject and very fair. You have the opportunity to make part of the syllabus (how many tests you want, etc.) and if you attend class regularly you can earn significant extra credit.

Hoke is a great guy. Just read the book and take the practice quizzes he provides and you will get an A. Attend every class so you can get extra credit at the end of the semester, in addition to lots of extra credit opportunities every day as well. I'd take his class again. Also, don't purchase the WSJ subscription, never needed it.

He was very fair and gave a ton of bonus points throughout the year. There were six quizzes, however if you do the practice quizzes that he posts prior, you will do fine. Hoke is one of the best professors i have had. he makes a dull subject enjoyable by using good examples and not just lecturing for the entire class. he is funny and really runs a great class i highly recommend taking him. he also has students write the student agreement which is great, go for the quizzes instead of tests and use absences smartly

Hoke is an amazing professor. He is confident in his craft and clearly sees, and teaches, the value in economics. He is all about mutual respect: you will get out of it what you put into it. All of the bad reviews are probably from people who haven't worked hard and were expecting to never put extra time into the course.

Dr. Hoke will make a promise w you at the beginning of the year, perfect attendance +3 points on your grade, drops lowest hw and quiz grade. He follows the book pretty closely and participation counts for your grade but the more you participate the more you will understand! Would def take him again

In the beginning of the semester he asks what the class would like in terms of how the course will go! DON'T be shy. Ask for extra credit, ask for multiple attempts for the homework, ask for dropping lowest grades. When in doubt ask! He'll tell you yes or no. Super cool dude, if you work with him he'll work with you.

This class is very tough, but if you get help outside of class and study two days before the quizzes you will do fine. Hoke seems like a cranky old head at first, but he is actually a pretty cool dude. The stories he tells in class are hilarious. I probably wouldnt take him again, but he definitely is a solid professor I will always remember.

Hoke is a good guy and a good professor but the quizzes are kinda tough. He does give a lot of opportunities for extra credit which have saved me. Theres a decent amount of hw but its all online. If you put the work in, this wont be a hard class. If you semi put the work in youll still do pretty well. He makes you think and im enjoying his class.

One of the smartest professors on campus. He really does have the students in mind, even if sometimes all he can offer them is a life lesson. His quizzes were kind of hard because they were generated off the practice quizzes, and only sometimes aligned. Would take if you aren't sensitive, learn through current events, and like economics.

You either love him or hate him. He lets you negotiate a class contract called the "promise". He gave us the choice of 6 smaller quizzes which were easy to study for w practice quizzes. As long as you make effort to understand the concepts you should get at least a BC. Sometimes he curves quizzes by up to 10 points. You have two weekly homeworks.

Although his teaching style did not work super effectively for me, he made it very hard to fail this class. Homework can be long but it is easy to pass, quizzes are easy if you study, and he does offer lots of extra credit throughout the semester. Sometimes he got on my nerves but overall a good professor and wants you to do well in his class.

Best professor for micro! He gives vivid and relatable examples to help better understand the concepts (write examples down while taking notes, it helps). The weekly hw structure makes it very easy to study. As long as you study, you'll pass the class easily and learn a lot.
