it probably had a lot to do with the class itself, but Khalsa was, is, and always will be the very best instructor at Pierce. the class was four times a week for just over an hour each day. i looked forward to this class. I intend to take this class again, and if Khalsa isnt the instructor, then i wont take it, end of story. Khalsa needs to teach more classes at this school. I'd probly get a higher GPA if he did, lol.
Teaches some hard stuff ... but teaches it well.
Very good teacher. Not for slackers. If you want to learn it, this is the man to teach it!
fun to be in class
Mr. Khalsa is an awesome teacher. He knows what he's talking about and he knows how to teach it to make students understand what he is talking about. He's funny and is a great story teller. TAKE THIS CLASS OR AT LEAST KHALSA!!!
Way way hard.
Awesome guy!
I Loved this class. He's such a fun guy the way he gets so animated when he's talking about certain things. Also his video collection is quite extensive. Great professor. Love Him
very good
khalsa is good, i just did not do so well.
good teacher. make sure you read the book so when he calls on you, you're prepared. fun class that i always enjoyed attending.
I took Khalsa's sociology class and it was a hybrid of online and in-class. He assigns a lot of work but he is very fun and open to new ideas. He does call on you so make sure you're focused. He has lot's of stories. Very good teacher, reccommended though if you want an easy A without much work than he is probably not for you.
great teacher taking him now..and i think he kinda cute too..
One of the best teachers I've ever had.
I took his online class. If you are willing to put in the effort to get the work done on time it's really quite easy to understand. His tests refer to info in the text so it's a good idea to at least review it with his slide shows. He's a great person ho is always willing to help and answer questions. I'm taking him again next qtr!& told others too
Leon is a great teacher. Fun to listen to. Interesting tho cuz he words things in his tests confusingly. When he calls on you and you dont know the answer, he looks at you like you are sort of dumb...so know the answer
Once you learn the hybrid black board set up class is super easy, assignments are fun.
I took Khalsa for Psych and had plan to register for another class for the next term. I couldn't do it. He is the first instructor I actually hated at as a person. I believe that he really doesn't care about his students as much as his next pay check. He isn't helpful and isn't reliable for assistance with questions. Lectures good otherwise.
Great professor! It's always fun attending his courses.
Probably one on the worst teachers I have ever taken. Threatens to take away your cell phone if its visible or rings and drops your grade for it. Tests are ridiculously worded. Annoying German accent and a very unhelpful and inconsiderate teacher. Do NOT recommend.
Being in class is a must!
great teacher. it seems that the bad reviews came from some serious slackers. My studying is average in this class and i still have a good grade. Teacher is funny, helpfull, and is really good at giving examples of the material that you can relate to. i would definitely recommend him.
He stays far aloof from students. When a student e-mails him a question, he does NOT ANSWER the question. Professor Khalsa has a 10 page syllabus that he is very strict on. He does not remind students in class about important assignments that need to be turned in on the Angel website. He is very energetic and active in his teaching style.
Great teacher. Make sure you have a good study group. Have fun in that class, but study study study. Also tests are hard so do them with a buddy. Great class to make friends for a lifetime
Great teacher! So fun and easy to listen too. But you have to do the readings and pay attention in class. Tests are pretty tricky though. Just study a lot, and you'll do great
Do not take his on-line class unless you want to read the whole book. He is better in class. Expects allot of work and grades on word count
Never take him he couldn't care less about students that need extra help!
Probably the hardest class i've taken. Lowest GPA I ever go. He's a good teacher, but very very difficult. I could understand everything, but when it came to the tests, it was really hard to figure out what exactly they were asking, honestly. I hated how there were things on angel AND in class. It made it hard to remember when things were due.
Khalsa is a great teacher. His syllabus is very detailed on what is expected. His assignments are very time consuming, but are not very difficult. I took his online class and received a rather decent grade. If there is an issue or question email him and within 24 hours he will send a reply. The DVD logs are really long...
His lectures are pretty great, and you get points for attending class. He has you do work online which is alright. It all changes when it comes to his tests. They are straight out of the book and not anything like his lectures. The questions are hard to understand and many times I felt as though there could be more than one answer. Must read text!
Great teacher! Very engaging. Not an "easy A" teacher.
He is AMAZING! i loved his class- he is not an easy 'a' but he gives you plenty of opportunities to raise your grade- he makes everything so easy to understand and he makes sure to help where you need it. he involves everyone and knows what he is doing! TAKE HIM!
What a wonderful experience. Khalsa has an interesting and fun approach to teaching psychology (his accent keeps me awake). Study hard for quizzes and exams; they're all online but not too difficult if you read the chapters. Yes, he has "cell phone garages." But they are only so his students are not distracted; makes sense to me.
Lectures are always interesting, and I would gladly have Mr. Khalsa for an instructor again. Lots of reading and online tests can be tricky, but not too difficult. He has a great personality and there are opportunities for extra credit. I learned a lot in a short period of time and was disappointed to see the quarter come to an end.
This class was alot of fun.learned a lot of useful knowledge and easy to learn from him.A lot of reading but he grades fairly. I would definantly take this class again.
I took this class online and was shocked by how writing intensive it was. I was writing between 1800-2200 words a week for this course to get an 'A'. He grades by word count. The assignments aren't hard but are extremely time consuming. He is very helpful when answering questions and he is very clear on what is expected of his students.
Mr. Khalsa is awesome!!!!!!! Very knowledgeable, he has like 3 masters and a doctorate in psychology, very fun, very interesting, tries very hard to make it interesting, and I'd recommend to anyone!!!!!!!
Very good teacher. Loves what he teaches. He is from Germany, and has an accent, but he is easy to understand. His exams and quizzes are hard, but 30% of grade is just participation so that helps.
Great teacher! One of the best. Textbook is required, but I never bought one, and I got an A. Weekly quizzes are a little challenging. Lectures are very entertaining. Leon is a great teacher who has a passion for the subject. You will learn a lot and enjoy yourself.
I took his online class and I hated it. His tests would ask questions that were not answered in the book and a couple times I had to message him and tell him that he was marking correct questions incorrectly. DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASSES!
Great teacher, would recommend him anyday! Very structured lively, and funny!
His online class is a lot of work but you do learn a lot. He has very set expectations and lays them out clearly. If you follow the expectations you will get 100% on all submitted work. Very helpful and kind. The tests are easy if you read and take notes. Also know key terms and people well. Great class and if you do the work you will get a 4.0!
It was a pretty simple class. There is an online quiz roughly every week, and three required online exams for the whole quarter. Leon offers extra credit opportunities to help those who have fallen behind a little. Class attendance and participation is also included in your grade so show up.
You are expected to learn every detail of the text book yet the information he lectures really has nothing to do with the text book. Overall it was an interesting class. You just have to put in a lot of work.
all of his exams and quizzes are from the book. If you only went to the classes and didnt read the book word-for-word, you would fail. His classes just give you the overall theme of the section. You MUST read the book thoroughly in order to pass his class.
Excellent professor! Strange how he managed to be so lively and engaging from 8:00-10:00pm every night. Psychology itself is a very broad topic which is why quizzes and exams tend to be difficult. Luckily, he grades very fairly with extra credit and curves. I recommend a study group. My two friends and I came out with 4.0's because of our group.
There is more writing in this class than any other class me or my wife has taken. I'm writing 6 or 7 full pages a week, not double spaced at 12pt font. If I had a job, there is no way I would be able to complete the assignments and do well in the class.
Online course is challenging. Required to write 3 paragraphs for each 5 minute clip of a 30 minute DVD lessons. Complete overkill and distracts from the overall concepts of the lessons. And then your grade is based on word counts rather than content. You will learn a lot in this class but the amount of writing is asinine for a 100 level course.
Great helpful teacher, gave extra points on exams because of a language barrier. Very understanding if you are unable to finish an assignment on time.
If you have 5 hours of spare time this class is yours. If you don't, don't take this class. Work is unrealistic and not helpful. He is sloppy as a teacher and not there to help when needed.
This class required A LOT of work, but it also forced me to concentrate on the topic and improve my writing. He is a fair grader and gives an additional 10 points on each exam to account for any ambiguously worded questions.
Wonderful class! I took his online Soc class and loved it! There's a lot of writing (about 3000 words a week), and a good amount of reading (a chapter a week from the textbook and some weeks articles as well). The class is very organized, informative and really fun! I really enjoyed it. The final was optional because one test grade is dropped too!
LOTS OF WORK! I do NOT recommend this class if you always work full-time, let alone part-time. He is response in a timely manner, but very hard grading and work
Horrible teacher. Lectures had nothing to do with the material we were learning. Most of the work was online even though it was not listed as an online or hybrid class. Accent made points he was trying to make unclear. Doesn't treat students with very much respect. Uses inappropriate examples to demonstrate topics. Do not recommend him at all.
Professor Khalsa is very simple and to the point. If you do the work you will get a good grade. I only missed one assignment the whole quarter and ended with an A-! Yes it is A LOT OF WORK and a A LOT OF writing ABOUT 3000 words per week plus a quiz adn discussion and responses. the dvd logs are killer and annoying but i learned SO MUCH RECCOMEND
LOTS OF WORK! There was a ton of work to do every week and most of it was boring and irrelevant to the topic. It seemed like busy work to me. Also, make sure if you take this class online that you use the online book unless you will get marked down 10% of your final grade
TOO MUCH WRITING!!!!!!!!!!! Interesting class but having too write over 2000 words for one freaking assignment EVERY WEEK is just ridiculous. Do not take this class unless you plan on writing a novel every week.
He is a very nice guy. He will respond to your emails very quickly. He truly cares about his students. I was told soc101 would be cake but his class was the hardest class I have taken. His tests are pretty tough you have to read it all and write LIKE CRAZY!!he really wants his students so succeed but if your looking for a easy teacher its not him!
very nice man, there is way to much writting, he only gives you 20 minutes to take a 15 question test in which are like straight from the book!! DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT A MAJOR CHALLENGE!!!!
If you're taking Leon Khalsa for an online teacher, good luck. I hope that he has changed his ways of teaching.I emailed Leon on many occasions saying I didn't understand something and needed clarification, he sent me to the textbook. 5 min increment summary on out of date pointless movies.. Tests though, very easy if you actually read EVER word
Khalsa is not helpful. There was a situation when he asked us a question and I answered word for word in the book and said I was wrong. When I showed him where in the book he said "don't listen to the book" when all the quizzes and tests come straight from the book. Doesn't respect his student. Would not take again. Easy class I got a 4.0
Leon is great guy, but seems to be confused by Canvas. He often does not post due dates along side his assignments. Class work takes hours upon hours of time, and tends to be EXTREMELY repetitive (i.e. Dvd Logs/ DB's). Though the material is interesting, you need a lot of spare time to be successful in his class. No go if you need consistency/time.
I took this class for American Honors, and it was pretty easy. Offers tons of extra credit, and has a different approach to lectures that really causes the information to stick. He is also really clear on Canvas, He uploads the modules every week and it was all pretty routing. I would take this class over and over again.
English is not his first language, and he is sometimes hard to understand. It's not like he's unfriendly, he just isn't able to be very clear when answering questions, in my opinion. He's ready and willing to help, but you might have to ask for clarification.
This class was somewhat easy. The professor gives feedback on your submissions and is quite helpful. He actually checks in with you occasionally and gets back to you quickly. He gives extra credit but you have to work for it. Every other week theres a DVD assignment that will require about 2.5 hours of your time. But this class is an easy A.
The course is easy but the work is a lot. Every other week DVD log consisting of over 1,900 (grade -A) words, but can easily be done while watching the film. If it's not the DVD week it's discussion week w/ 600 words + 3-100 word replies. Also $80 access code for easy quizzes on another site. He's kind of rude in emails ESP if you don't do work.
Khalsa was a pretty cool guy. He gives feedback on most assignments, but there is a lot of homework! Once every other week he assigns these dvd projects that are very time consuming! Prepare to spend over an hour a night doing homework.
I turned things in on time and he would say I never turned them in or tell me that It didn't matter because it was only home work. When asking for help understanding he is little help and a bit rude.
A lot of work, but I found it beneficial in the long run! Though it was online, I had gained a lot of knowledge as though it was a classroom. Always answered questions promptly, and kindly. Again I stress the a lot of work, I set aside an hour and a half a day, but again it is totally worth it! Enjoyed the class overall!
Never met him in person since I took his class online. The class requires a lot of work and reading. The discussion questions were hard in my opinion. The required DVD set is expensive esp since you only use like 2 of them. DVD logs weren't too hard, but time consuming. Tests/quizzes on Pearson/Canvas weren't too bad if you use your resources.
I found Professor Khalsa to be mind-opening. I had not experienced some things before sociology (well, and known what they were.) I was an online student. There is a lot of reading and writing required. It's very time consuming. I did not like the My Soc Lab portion: it felt like Trivial Pursuit and detracted from the good stuff.
Mr. Kalsa was an amazing professor! He really helped everything stick in your brain with his "velcro" technique and he was very funny. Do be aware of some cursing, if you're not into that I don't recommend this class. He can be very raw at times and some people don't enjoy that out of a teacher, but I found it great :)
He is a great professor and he clearly answered all of my questions. He left specific and helpful comments on my assignments. Every other week there is a big assignment but it gets easier after time. I would take his class again if I could. I took this class online and I was nervous about that but it was way better than I expected.
If you procrastinate, this class is not for you! Although this class requires a LOT of work and studying, I found it very beneficial and gained more knowledge than I would have with another professor. He gives excellent feedback and really cares about his student's success. As long as you put the effort into it, it's honestly an easy A.
I would not recommend. This class has only 3 tests with an optional final. There are some quizzes to prepare for the test but they are completely different than the test and has nothing do with his lectures. His lectures are boring and I could probably learn more just reading the textbook. And if you miss class 6 times you flunk the class
Very easy A if you are willing to put in the time. It's open book texts that are timed. If you put in a few hours with the weekly discussion boards, and read his instructions carefully you're sure to get an A+
I love the way Leon interacts with all the students throughout the class. I was really nervous about it at first because he will call on people at random but it has been really helpful in understanding what we're learning. He focuses a lot on creating unique ways to remember things in his class which is also very useful.
Leon is a very kind and thoughful professor. However this course and his sociology course were pretty hard. there are dvd lessons each week that have to be 2000+ words. There are also discussion boards that have to be 600+ words plus 3 replies each week. Lots of quizzes too. textbooks or ebooks are expensive too
This class was online and I loved it. He is very straight forward about grading. Only a few assignments a week but require a lot of time. If you have good time management you will be great, if not you can still pass with a decent grade. He gives great feedback on every assignment, very much recommend!
Leon Khalsa was a great Professor! His tests and exams can be pretty difficult so make sure you study. Hes hilarious, and very helpful. His enthusiasm and positivity make the class very enjoyable.
Leon is an amazing professor. I wish more professor taught the way he does. You know his class is awesome when everyone is constantly laughing/smiling. The only problem I had was all of the constant online work, easy but tedious.
He used multiple forms of teaching and assignments throughout the whole quarter and made the online class interactive. At the end of the quarter he bumped my grade up, and after each assignment he would give feedback.
Worst experience in college to date. Took two online assignments and said I never turned them in. When I provided proof he did not fix my grade. Do not take him online.
he was really boring and didnt explain anything really well
The best professor I've ever met. His lectures really got me interested in psychology even though I'm a computer science major. I'm now taking psychology as my minor.
Online, super easy, 3 assignments a week, practice test, and test, looked up on quizlet. One big assignment every Sunday 2 hours tops, gives feedback on what to do to get an A next time. Finished all work in one day.
3 exams, each exam going over 3 chapters. 1 optional final exam, for kids who missed one of the previous 3 exams. 3ish launchpad assignments per chapter, then a practice quiz and quiz for each chapter. Gives extra credit opportunities. I personally found the class relatively easy and fun, it helps if you're already interested in the course topic
A great professor overall. He definitely likes you to do some reading, but his in class instruction is really solid and does a good job clearing up key information. However, tests and quizzes rely very heavily on information in the textbook. Youll also find no shortage of life advice in the class, which is something I really wasnt expecting.
Ton of work, only opened on Thursdays of each week and a lot of work required to be done on the weekend. All assignments had word counts for every section, which advocates for quantity over quality. Each major assignment (1 a week) took a good amount of time, 4+ hours for the DVD assignments and three seperate days for each discussion board.
Leon really cares about your grade. There were a few times I forgot about an assignment, so he would send a canvas notification to remind me. The DVD assignments take a lot of time, and are worth a lot of your grade, but are not too difficult. You just have to be willing to put in the effort and you should receive a solid grade. Highly recommend:)
A class based on being able to recite a textbook. Not my favorite class, it made me change my major from Psychology to my backup. He is very passionate and well aware of peoples sensitivities. He offers extra credit, but he is a teacher who gives you lengthy assignments when he cancels class. He also calls on people randomly, so focus. A 6.5/10.
Professor Khalsa was great! He is very caring and he lets you know he cares about your grade in the class. When something is due and has not been turned in yet, he lets you know what will be due soon and how important it is to turn it in or it will impact your grade. His tests are easy if you read the book!
The amount of work required for this class is insane. Recommend do not take him online.
Professor Khalsa was one of the best teachers I have had. He seemed to actually care about his students. If you hadn't turned something in and the due date was near he would send you a reminder telling you that he didn't want you to miss any points. He seemed interested in what he was teaching and interested in his students as well.
He has a strict timeline for due dates. There are also video reviews done, those took up most of my time on the weekends. He gives great feedback and really wants you to think of the information, not just get the right answer. Also, get ready to dig deep with your responses to discussion boards, he wants you to think about responses.
Professor ruined Psychology for me. Tedious daily homework, and weekly assignments that have more homework than all three of my last quarters classes combined, including 200 level classes. The material is easy to learn but the teaching is done in such a poor way that it drives the student to tears with the terrible assignments and requirements.
He was a good professor. He graded quickly and gave good feedback and had opportunities for extra credit. His exams were hard and very specific so you have to know the material well and memorize many details. There were no video lectures; you read a chapter, took quizzes, participate in a group discussion or DVD lesson, and then took the exam.
Nicest professor ever! But his class is tough. Each week there is: 1-2 chapters of reading (3-4 hrs), participation assignment (1hr), DVD or DB which involve a lot of writing (2-5 hrs), practice quiz (15 min), and a moderately easy chapter quiz. He grades easy if he sees effort applied and is very understanding and intelligent. Take this class!
Leon Khalsa was a good teacher! He gave clear grading criteria and gave feedback that was extremely helpful. He always graded things quickly and gave extra credit. I would take another class that he taught because he was so helpful. Also, I did not even read the textbook like at all and I still managed to get an A. It was an easy class overall! :)
I had him online so I cant speak to his actual class. But I have not read the book since the second module and I still have a 98 in his class. Its the same thing every week so youll never be surprised. And he gives amazing feedback. Do the work and you should be fine cuz I normally dont even know what Im talking about.
Professor Khalsa cares a lot about his class, and it shows. His feedback is always valuable and chock full of life advice, and the curriculum he uses is very informational. Hes also a pretty mild grader and a generally cool guy, but you definitely need to keep up with the assigned reading to understand what the quizzes are asking you.
This class was by far the worst class I have ever taken. The course materials were very poorly done and weren't well related to what we were supposed to study. Assignments with little impact on grade required the same amount of work as those with large impacts and everything felt imbalanced. If I could describe the course in one word: Abhorrent
In short, he gives AMAZING feedback, but extremely time-consuming assignments, like video analysis/DBs (6h min), Reading (5h min), tests (3+/week). Tips: 1)Use the provided chapter outlines - basically ready notes(I didn't read the textbook at all). 2)On tests - google, all the answers are on Quizlet. In conclusion, good teacher, but A LOT of work!
He is very specific and tedious with assignment requirements, but if you do everything he asks based on the template provided you will get an A. Lots of quizzes and he requires discussion peer responses on separate days. The book is online and you buy a code to access it. A lot of the questions he asks are your opinion so you can't get it wrong.
Really professor gives good feedback, every week there are videos to watch then summarize what you learned.
I had to drop him as I couldnt get the help I needed from the professor. On multiple occasions I had messaged him about an assignment and he didnt get back to me until about a week later... as a full time student with a full time job dont take him
I would not recommend this course. It’s a TON of tedious writing and about 5 assignments a week and they’re not easy. He’s also super strict about due dates. I was in the hospital during this course and he made no allowances for quizzes or exams during that time. Sorta sucked and brought my grade down a ton.
His homework was very easy, he has templates for all of the homework so if you do your work on those guidelines, you'll easily get a 100%. His homework switches every week, one week its a discussion board, the next a dvd lesson journal and then quizzes. Read the chapters, they're very important! The journal is lengthy but not difficult.
Professor Khalsa is a very nice professor and is willing to help his students and answer questions. He responds to your messages in a timely manner. Yes, the homework can be tough such as some of the discussion board topics he gives and there is a lot of writing and reading involved. There's about 3 quizzes each week, but its doable. :)
Professor Leon should have a much higher rating. He is great, cares for his students, and has a love for teaching. Classwork is very heavy but necessary. A chapter reading and a couple of homework assignments a week, but totally doable. He helped me out a lot and his way of teaching and providing resources is amazing, especially for an online class
If you are looking for an engaging class that has a lot of work but is all easy, this is the class for you. the workload is all worth it due to his heavy engagement and amazing constructive feedback on every discussion or assignment you turn in. It felt like having a free therapist that made sure you are pulling your weight while cheering your on.
This has been the only class that I have had to withdrawal from, I got straight As last quarter and have As in my other classes this quarter. He does not allow extensions no matter the circumstance. Heavy homework assignments every week.
This professor is such a sweet man, butttt this coursework is actually extremely trying if you have other responsibilities.
I loved the teaching method .
12 late turn-ins. I had to communicate with him about why and show I was still woking. Participation and Communication matters and helps a lot. There was lots of quizzes and writing and there are DVD videos to watch. It was calm but I had to stay on it. He messaged me with reminders. I don't think we had a book but the videos were the text book. :)
