M.C. final with stupid questions, eg how many wives did Mohammad have? Suck
Poor lectures, absurd and irrelevant questions on exam.
Very enthusiastic with her teachings, MC exams, but assignments were DUMB.
terrible, lectures are torture
love her classes - makes you think and express yourelf. comparative

Pretty good prof. Her class was pretty easy to learn/understand/get a 75 in.
She is a blast. Highly reccommend her classes
Great to have lectures that aren't simply a rehash of the text!
Good Prof - actually wants me to learn! uncommon as that is.
Before her class, I did not know that time went so slow!!!!
good class, good prof

Booooring! Time has never gone this slow.
A little boring at times. Can't tell if she's being sarcastic or not.

she makes it really interesting

sooooooooo boring!!!!
she taught me something

very boring prof and mono tone vocal chords! can't teach don't take it from her
Makes you feel stupid if asked a question! very mean and boring lectures! YIKES!
why come too class? don't learn anything! it's basically a self taught class
boring..very very boring...gets way too over excited!!!!!
She's good, makes you think - philosophical in class. Tests are more based on reading material. Must memorize lots of terminology for test, but if you do, you'll do fine.
HARD EXAM!! T.A. was bad!! Read your text for exam or you will fail
Brilliant, funny and interesting.

all good
this was one of the easiest classes ever we got 15/15 just for completing log books, and had the opportunity of getting a 5% bonus.. take this class if you are stupid and suck at university
Very interesting class! Most exams were based on text material.
Excellent prof. Tests are easy and are based on in-class notes. Textbook is there to help you understand the notes. She makes the class so interesting. You take down notes as she talks, so you don't have to just copy from a chalkboard or powerpoint.
mostly interesting
she is ok
I really loved this class. She is a challenging prof, I loved going to the lectures but the tests were quite difficult. The assignments were not, though, and if you are willing to go to class and pay attention, you will do fine. If you're interested in the subject definitely take her class!
This was a really interesting class, but also challenging at times. Make sure you go to the lectures, because the book does not cover everything she discusses.
Well, what is there to say? She gave an opinion essay, then told us all we were wrong and 'not to give her this bull that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.' Then when I noticed that her marker forgot to answer one of my questions she lowered the marks on every question. Petty and vindictive
enjoyuable
love her class...she's a wealth of info and i learnt interesting things all the time...contrary to one of the ratings she a fair marker and more than generous. I had her re-examine a paper of mine and my grade went UP. I like her cause she makes you think!
class is intresting, prof is fair
Biased, opinionated, unfair. If you do not believe her beliefs, you'll get a bad mark. If you disagree with her or have your own opinion, you'll get a bad mark. She is a ridiculous excuse for a prof! Christians stay away because she's a Christian hater!
Oh goodness, she is not a so-called 'Christian hater,' she's just objective and doesn't cater to whiny people. Her class setup is interesting and creative, and while it can be challenging, I've found her to be both flexible and approachable. Thought-provking lectures. Good prof!
Kind of unsure about the expectations for some of the assignments, such as opinion based ones or what to expect for tests (she jumps all over the board on that)...did ok despite confusion. I liked her use of slides during lectures, and she was a fair marker of papers, but on tests, was a bit harder.

I agree with the last comment...what WERE the expectations? Brutal test marker, especially the essay question. I still don't know what she expected of us. Marks arbitrarily, with broad comments like "good." Well, in that case, why'd I only get a 70?
Great class. Leona is funny...great interpersonal skills. Loved her class
Leona is absolutely amazing. if you come to the class with an open, objective mind, you should do fine.
excellent prof
Have an open mind? Yeah, keep your mind open so you absorb all her beliefs or you are screwed?
learnd a lot from this prof
Leona is a pretty good prof. She covers a lot of material in class and is very knowledgable about the material. I swear she knows about every religion there is. The tests are kind of stupid and are WAYYYYY too long for a 50 minute class. The assignments are straight forward but she is a brutal marker on them. Besides that, good prof.
the class started out ok. pretty interesting but she marks extremely hard. worked my a** off and still got crappy marks. tests are absolutely ridiculous. don't even bother studying because once you walk into the exam room nothing you studied will be on the tests. i would not reccomend this prof. i certainly won't be taking another class from her.
Leona is a nice woman and I enjoyed her class. I think she could have done a little better on covering the course material. If given the option write the papers, not the tests. The exams are nearly impossible to finish and are extremely difficult. Assignments were relatively easy.
Assignments are easy. Exams are pointless (based on creativity and making up answers instead of facts - so don't bother studying). Terrible at returning your assignments/exams in good time. Loses her train of thought midsentence/lecture far too often for me. The topics were interesting, too bad she's the only prof that teaches it.
exams are tough but you lean a lot
She takes FOREVER to hand back assignments. She didn't even have assignments to give back on the last day of class. I had no idea how I was doing in the class because she had over 50% of my mark in assignments and didn't hand them back. There was no final and our final marks are STILL not up. I paid $500 for this class. This is unacceptable!!!!!!!
I luv religious studies, so you cant go wrong
invested in students who really want to learn and are willing to critically analyze themselves as much as the material. If self-awareness of your assumptions is not your thing, STAY HOME!!! She is tough, but also supportive; I marked for her and did not want to fail students who tried hard. If you want to do no thinking or work, do not take class.
wow...its been a few years since i took something with leona but i have one of her classes in the fall and i think that she i great. easy assignments and exams, funny and extremely NON judgemental...
I really liked her...I didn't know much about RLST before taking this class and she really broadened my mind. You have to know how to take notes in this class and you have to study...but it was enjoyable and I would suggest it to my friends
She's an awesome lady who teaches an awesome class. Broaden your horizons by learning a little about a lot from a very good prof. She's clear about what she expects and ensures that you have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss things. Totally awesome experience which I highly recommend!
She was a good prof. She marked essay very fairly and encouraged people to think for themselves and form their own opinions about the material, and encouraged class descussion on those opinions. I would definately take another class with her, in fact I am this spring.
I thought that the class material was interesting, but she tends to go off on HUGE tangents, where at the end she herself doesn't remember what she was talking about. Often goes off on tangents about Christianity, which I found useless, being as it was a Hinduism class. Tests are too long for class, and she asks questions on material not covered
Leona Anderson is a good professor. She explains concepts in simple everyday language, encourages class discussion & uses images to complement her lectures. Do not buy the textbook, it was never used. She does however have difficult exams requiring a lot of study time & her demands for her papers I feel are unreasonable. Also, lectures were boring.
The worst prof ever! The first midterm the class average was 55 and she does not even talk about religeon I have no idea what this class is supposed to be but it is not religeon. There were over 112 definations for the first exam you had to know and she was picking ten of them, Yikes.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM HER! She is a terrible prof, she doesn't know how to teach, she's crazy! She does NOT talk about religion and her lectures are VERY LONG and VERY BORING! I am warning you...DO NOT TAKE CLASSES FROM HER...
Worst prof ever. I beg you, don't EVER take a class from her. She is a crazy hippie. Went off on weird tangents all the time (90% of them would bash Christianity), made the midterms really long, impossible to finish and included questions on material we never even took. I also don't think that she marked my term paper fairly. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
WORST PROF EVER!! She expects her students to know as much as she does about religion, which is completely unfair for a 100 level class. Her instructions change without notice, and good or bad, she'll tear your work apart. Completely unorganized, and lectures are somewhat scattered. AVOID TAKING CLASSES WITH HER!!
Highly disorganized and scatterbrained. Marks fairly arbitrarily. Doesn't make her expectations clear. If you appreciate clarity of language, thought, speech, and argument, don't take any classes from her - you will suffer.
Yes, she's tough, but not unreasonable for a Uni class. It's important to know your own beliefs, though. Both she, and the text have some wonky ideas about Christianity, which calls what you learn about other religions into question, too. She was decent about me speaking in disagreement, though. Just be sure you know what you're talking about.
I'm not sure I understand all the terrible comments--sure, she may not be the best professor I've had but she is good. I found her lectures organized and interesting. She encouraged a lot of class discussion and seemed to enjoy hearing our opinions. She has tough but very fair expectations, and you can do well in her class.
too much information but fair and informtive. Gd class to make you think
I was kind of put off by the negative comments on this site. However i am glad i took the class anyways. Leona was awesome very understanding, gives you lots of opition to make the class your own. You get the opition (2times) of a presentation, paper, or exam. Followed by 3 assignments and a small exam. She is wonderful and i reccomend her x 9!
This class was decently interesting, and the marking was quite fair. If given the option do the presentations. Classmates said that the tests, while not hard were way too long for the time given. Overall it was a decent enough class, could be a bit dry at points though.
A Great prof, you may not agree with her all the time but she is open for any opinion and ideas. a very relaxed way of teaching and an outstanding person. if you do not learn any thing from his class you would still learn enough from her which will last you for life. Interested in religious studies try her.
Leona's class is extremely interesting, but is equally as challenging. It is a little bit disappointing, as you often feel like you have learned from her feedback, but you never seem to get it just right.
She cannot teach whatsoever, graded super hard and when asked for grading rubric she responded that the mark was out of 5. Would actually put effort in each forum post and would be marked oddly (3.2/5, 2.7/5, ect.). Was excited for this class, but her grading and unclear modules ruined the whole subject for me.
Class is graded on 5 assignments and 5 forum posts. For all 10 of these, use scholarly resources from both the course and ones that you found doing your own research. Use her feedback to improve you grade. Go above the word limit for assignments and posts to get a better grade. Use examples to prove your points. Great prof and interesting class.
I don't know what her lectures are like since I took an online course but she was easy to reach, she gave good feedback, and assignments were graded quickly. For each unit (including reading chapters, forum discussions and case assignments) I put in about 10 hours of work.
I took this class online as an elective, she has to be the laziest, least present prof I have ever had on an online course. She assigns approx 10 articles to read, plus several videos to watch for each module then only has 5 slides of her own writing. She marks extremely tough and even if you follow her advice you'll only gain about 5%.
She assigns multiple readings/videos per week. I couldn't get higher than a 68% on any assignment, even after following her feedback from previous assignments. Wasn't engaged with the class at all. The content was not what I expected it to be. Wouldn't take another class with her again.
You have to read the textbook and do some independent research for assignments, but it's nothing unreasonable. Leona was very clear in her expectations and if you follow them, you will get a good mark. Leona encouraged an open mind when approaching all religions and was very knowledgeable. I would take another class taught by her again.
Leona was knowledgeable about the content in the course and nice to talk to if you had any q's. The course itself consisted of about 10 lengthy forum posts/responses and 5 research assignments. There was no mandatory textbook as there were online resources available. Put the work in and you get a good mark. Was a VERY interesting class on cults.
Leona knows her subject, is highly organized and gives constructive feedback. Class requirements/expectations are clearly stated. Assignments are marked in a timely manner. I thoroughly enjoyed this on-line class and learned a lot; the subject matter was very interesting. I was really impressed with her!
She is unreasonable. For a second year class she expects fourth year knowledge. She is a nice lady but nice can't save a crappy class. I would never recommend her as a professor to anyone.
Honestly, RLST 268 was a waste of my time. Every second week, she wants approximately 8 pages worth of "beyond the surface" questions, and then she makes you do forums. Anderson, nobody likes forums. This class made cults boring. I literally never knew what to do to please her. Got 39% on an assignment.... I'm a MAJOR! This shouldn't happen.
I was SO excited for class this class and quickly had my heart broken by the first three assignments that I did not pass. I subsequently dropped the class to save my GPA. She expects me to have 9 hours a day to slave over a forum question(s), which are the actual worst. I have never seen a more unreasonable class at the U of R. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I am surprised that Dr. Anderson has so many poor ratings. I thought she was quite nice. 268 was a web delivered class. There are no exams or lectures. You are required to do a lot of reading and submit 10 assignments. If you are good at time management and listen to her feedback it's a fairly easy/enjoyable course.
Decent enough teacher, but is often way too wordy. Could honestly use less obscure wording as it makes her teaching harder to follow. I am not the only student who thinks this. Interesting topics and class though! Just felt like she made it more confusing than it should have been.
This class was fairly tough but work hard and you will be okay. Leona is a very sweet lady, this is the second class I have taken with her. Do not let the reviews on here scare you. She expects a lot from you which is not a bad thing. 5 forum posts, 5 lengthier assignments. No textbook, miderm or final. Would take her again!
Leona is a very nice and caring prof. She was always willing to help and accommodate students. Honestly I was confused on some of these reviews. As long as you put in the effort you will do great in this class.
This was a web class. Quite heavy, 5 large assignments and 5 detailed forum posts. (I took it as a spring class so it was quite heavy). Anderson is a fairly heavy marker. I am in third year and got an 82% but the class average was 67%. So fairly hard.
Normally I don't mind weekly forum posts. However, Leona's are AWFUL. She expects you to cite every thing you post with online journals, even the question is opinion based. You're essentially writing a mini-essay every week and expected to comment more than once. It's way too much work.
I really enjoyed Professor Anderson's class on New Religious Movements. Instead of using a textbook she provides a plethora of chapters/scolarly articles, etc. to read. While it is a lot of reading and writing every week the articles and such she picks are VERY interesting! I learned a lot and would totally take another class from her.
Professor Anderson is the hardest marking professor I have had so far. She gives insane amounts of homework (atleast two writing assignments each week) and then expects you to answer parts of questions that she never even asked. For the amount of homework she gives she shouldn't be marking so hard. No matter how hard I tried, nothing pleased her.
I enjoyed this class a lot, there were assignments and forum posts almost every week but the content was always interesting. One of the best online classes I've ever taken - no tests!! If u want a tip on getting good grades, be insightful!! and make up your own theories!! - don't just recite what is written in the readings/lectures.
