Rather arrogant and insulting.
The best prof. that I've had so far!
Len Kass is the man, he could explain anything and make it sound easy and fun. I want to toke up with him sometime.
great teacher. class is worth attending. keeps old exams at library which are VERY helpful in preparing for the exams.
He sometimes looks arrogant. He does not pay attention to students who are raising hand to ask a question. He keeps talking without minding whether the students can follow the lecture.
He is a good teacher he just kind of comes of as a little pretentious sometimes. If you actually get a chance to talk to him you realize he is a really good guy, and a good teacher, you just need to wait before you judge him
He is a good teacher. He explains concepts well and his lecture notes are easy to follow.
I enjoy having Dr.Kass as a professor. This is the second semester that I have had him for a teacher and I find his lectures enjoyable.
Excellent...CARLA helped sooo much with the course i wished i had it in BIO 100. Definitely a good guy and excellent in lectures.
Very straight-forward as to what to learn and stands by it. The CARLA assignments sucked to do, but really helped when preparing for a test. He is a good teacher and can be very funny at times. He is very good about helping you get a good grade (earn it)
Very clear about what you need to know and what you don't. Makes lecture short and fun.
very interesting class.very fair grader when it comes to your final grade. i had a hard time figuring out what was going to be on the tests, there was always a lot of info to learn and i never knew what to study for.
he was great, carla was great, all in all, great class
Dry, kind of corny sense of humor but keeps lectures interesting and worth attending. Exams difficult, but professor provides u w/ all the tools u need to succeed on them. Recommend this class to any bio major.
The lecture was very easy to do well in. He provides you with all the materials to score A's on a test. The lab is what is more difficult. Overall he is an excellent teacher.
I thought his lectures were good worth attending alot of info to learn though and study CARLA one of the hardest courses ive taken mainly because of LAB Lab was just terrible the way it was constructed but the lecture wasnt bad but alot of information to learn cyberprofessor aka him was a riot.
Amazing prof :)

alot of information to learn. test 1 - easiest one, be sure to get a good grade on it. test 2 - alot harder, test 3, even harder, final exam - cumulative. lectures - very informative, important to go to. labs are alright.
Great professor! Good at explaining and clarifying concepts. CARLA questions are vital to memorize if you are striving for an A in the course.
Great Teacher!
What a Sweetheart! He has a sense of humor that makes me want to attend lectures!!!
He was a great professor, very fair and extremely nice! He gives you help whenever you need. Recommend him for anyone taking Bio100
Very smart!!! Study Carla and his notes and you are all set :)
very clear and just study carla, tells you everything you need toknow
I would recommend Professor Kass to anyone...he's really interesting and goes out of his way to help his students
Very animated and cares about the students. Amazing professor!!
Excellent teacher. To the point and plenty of room to improve you grade even if you fail the first test.
This was the best professor I ever had. He's clear, concise, and without prejudice. He'd make a good counselor. He teaches the material and avoids contraversial or unrelated topics. Study the book, go to class, and ask questions. He's very friendly.

He actually CARES about his classes and makes them interesting. Tests are not difficult unless you don't show up for class or study synapse tests online. It's nice to have a real professor who will wave to you if he sees you outside of class!
Very good lecturer. Enjoyed coming to his classes. Clear, concise, and a nice person!
Pr. Kass is a good lecturer and lets you know exactly what will be on the tests. The material is difficult but if you spend a lot of time going over CARLA questions and lecture notes you should be okay.
Neurobiology is probably the hardest class that I've taken in 4 years. He tries to give us relevant material though, and help us as much as possible. You either get a zero or 100 on the final paper but you can turn it in early for review. Definitely an interesting class and an interesting enthusiastic professor.
Incredible professor! Best I've had so far! He is so willing to help and he is amazing at explaining his concepts! If you can, get in his class you won't regret it I promise!
First year teaching cell bio but is a well known prof. on campus and did a good job. Hard to figure out at beginning of semester what material was on tests, but then made it clearer. As long as you do review questions he suggests and go over material he tells you to, it's fine. recommended that you take physics and intro to cell bio first (bmb)
Good course, good teacher, and would take another class with him.
Kind of hard at first; he tended to talk a mile a min, but puts up important slides online. Has Cyber-Professor (obvi himself in a lab coat and goggles), kind of lame sometimes but always entertaining, because he spends the time to rehearse the conversations, and it's a nice break from writing notes that sometimes seem neverending
Neurobiology was the hardest course I've taken at UMaine. That being said, neurobio was one of my favorite. Weird that it took me 4 years to find a class that actually made me THINK. Kass is insane and makes class entertaining. Suggestion: submit test questions and your final paper early for feedback.
Really tries to make sure his students do well and understand the material!
BIO 208 is an easy A if you attend all the classes, start preparing for the test a couple days beforehand by going through lecture slides, and knowing the CARLA questions. Lab TAs are luck of the draw but if you do well in lecture, lab shouldn't hurt your grade too much. My lab TA was hard - I got an A overall in class despite having a 90 in lab.
Dr. Kass was the best professor I had by far. He was clear and kept us interesting. Great sense of humor! Treats us as people rather than "college kids". I found the textbook almost required for exams but the homeworks were an easy A.
This man has to be my favorite on the Umaine campus. Even though our lecture hall is the biggest on campus, this man still spent time in the two little anterooms leading to it to shoot the breeze with students. His lecture style is a good balance of humor, clarity, and info-dense material. This man is a demonstration of what it means to be a Prof.
He is a great professor! He makes his lectures interesting and fun. Exams are multiple choice but surprisingly challenging. He is extremely helpful with supplying us with everything we need to know for the exams. He goes out of his way to give everyone a more than fair chance at getting a good grade in this class.
I've had Dr. Kass for BIO 208 and BIO 377 and he is one of my favorite professors. Though the material is challenging, his grading procedures are extremely fair and generous. His lectures are fast paced, but he makes things interesting and lets you know what he expects from you on exams.
Dr. Kass is the best professor that I have ever had. His classes are a must take! Smart, funny, involved; he strives to make sure every student excels.
Dr. Kass basically just copied the exams he administered last year. I got above a 100% in his BIO 377 class just by studying CARLA questions and memorizing his old exams. To be quite honest, I could have spent 20 minutes reviewing his old exams, and gotten an A in the class. I did not learn much in his class but I received an A, so no complaints.
Exams are very fair and sometimes very scaled. If you study the slides and at least skim the book you should do well. Kass is kind of bizarre sometimes but he is a really nice guy.
Dr. Kass is amazing, he's just so funny and incredibly enthusiastic about both the class and his student's learning. He usually posts music before the class, says the most absurd hilarious things, and even has a 'cyber professor' come in some lectures :) He's so nice and understanding and is easy to talk to.
Difficult material, but a fun class.
Dr. Kass is a very smart professor who knows how to make the class interesting. The hardest part of this course is listening to him rave on about how amazon it is.
You will find no better professor at the University of Maine. Dr. Kass is hilarious, awesome, and cares more about his students than anyone else at this school. He works to make sure you understand the material, are ready for his test, and will easily score above average on the MCAT's if you so desire.
Love Dr. Kass! You can really tell he cares about what he teaches and the material he teaches is ACTUALLY on the exams. Overall a great guy and hilarious! Love Cyberfessor. He definitely keeps things interesting!
I've actually taken two classes with Kass - BIO 208 and Bio 377. Here's a helpful tip on how to pass his classes - MEMORIZE the online CARLA quizzes. 90% of the questions on the exams come from those. You don't have to come to lectures or read the book if you go through the slides he posts online and memorize the quizzes.
Get the book, it will be worth it. Kass is fun, interactive, blunt, & awesome. He's smart & engaging - totally into questions from the students during office hoursafter class. He's helpful & gives tons of feedback; he's sent me links w more information when I needed help (even in other classes). 10 out of 10 - would take any of his classes. :D
Dr. Kass is determined to provide UMaine students with a top notch Anatomy & Physiology experience. The tests are hard (class average in the C-D range) but there's plenty of opportunities for gimme points and extra credit. Lectures are boring because Kass speaks in high level science lingo. Lab's are tough. Dr. Kass is a tough, but good, professor.
read and Print out lecture slides. Carla questions make up many questions on the tests. Pay attention to small anecdotes he tells in class they pop up as questions. He's a Nice guy and reasonable.
Kass comes off as cocky and a little insane, but overall he keeps lectures interesting, especially with Cyber Professor. Answers to CARLAs are found on quizlet. Tests are about 1/2 CARLA, 1/2 lecture material. A lot of in class questions are on tests. He bumps up exam grades from the semester depending on how you do on the final. Don't buy book.
Stellar. He has clear expectations and standards, but if you do your part and pay attention, you'll do just fine. His lectures are very engaging and even posted online ahead of time. Lab and lecture also flow together very well.
Dr. Kass is hilarious! Some people think he's rude because he tells it like it is, but I really liked that about him. I did not buy the book and still got an A in the class. The tests are easy and he's very forgiving with his red flagged questions. As for the final STUDY OLD EXAMS. They make up 50% of the final exam!!
Dr. Kass is a very intelligent man, but that is about it. He does not truly care about how his students do. Sure, he "flags" questions, but he states multiple times throughout the semester that if you do not understand what he is talking about, consider a career switch. Not what you want to hear from your professor. Also, tries too hard to be funny
great teacher - sometimes assumes that his students care just as much as he does which makes the exams hard. I've failed first 2 exams and got a D- on the other one and still have an 85 in the course. Plus he uses your first 3 exams' questions on the final; if you get them right on the final you will get the points back on the past 3 exams
Medical physiology is the hardest class I have ever taken. Kass makes it clear at every lecture that if you dont understand the material, you should change your profession Hes that guy that judges you for not understanding a topic in 10 minutes that hes been studying for 50 years. Ive never failed a class before but theres a first for everything
Dr. Kass seems like a heartless professor at first, but his grading procedures are very fair and generous. You'd have to try pretty hard to fail. You won't pass his class without putting the work in, though. If you go see him for office hours he will walk you through whatever you're stuck on and practically give you the answers. Great professor!
Dr. Kass is a really great professor. He will try to scare you a bit at first, but there is nothing to be worried about. Print off lectures and do all of the connect questions, and you will be fine for the exams. Connect homework can take a while so be sure to budget time accordingly. Very approachable via email and offers plenty of extra credit.
He says that if you don't understand everything you should switch majors and careers paths, but that's just for show. His lectures are informative and he clearly enjoys them and even adds some theatricality. He releases old exams to review and gives hints in lecture about what will be on exams. He genuinely cares about his students and the topic.
Professor incentives doing work by adding pointless "bonus" points that aren't really bonuses, you only get them by doing the work. I missed one 4 point assignment and got an F on the 15 point "bonus." Giving extra credit like that shouldn't be the incentive to do the work. It is unfair and doesnt teach anyone anything.
Idk if its just the pandemic, but all your learning is done outside class times. During lecture you meet about the extra homework he has you do. Easily spend 8 hours a week on this class alone. You do learn a lot because reading the textbook is necessary and the textbook homework ranges 90-280 questions. Good luck with that.
Started a lecture on how he does not care if you pass his class. Says he has a class Avg. of a D. Homework is ridiculous and takes 1.5-2 hours to complete just a piece of it, as it is an interactive quiz like set up. Condescending and rude when I asked for help or clarification.
I took this course in 3 weeks during the winter term so there was a lot of material to learn in a short period of time. However, I did learn a lot and the material is all relevant for my career path. The professor is very enthusiastic in lectures. Exams are based on homework assignments and lectures. I'm looking forward to the lab!
Professor Kass was by far the best professor I've had at UMaine thus far. Yeah BIO208 was difficult, yeah he may seem intimidating, but it's for our own good. He wants his students to succeed and wants to make sure they develop a solid work-ethic.
I have taken three classes with Dr. Kass and loved every single one. He has a different teaching style in really involves the students in his lectures. He cares greatly about his students and answers emails promptly. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester and gives good feedback!! One of the best professors I had at Umaine!
I was nervous to take this class over the winter term, but I shouldn't have been. Just submit ALL of your assignment/exam responses to him ahead of time and he will basically give you the answers. The final paper is all or nothing and you can do well on the exams by memorizing his corrections. Also no extra HW in the winter term!
I wasn't sure if taking this class over Winter break would be the best idea (b/c it's fast paced), but it ended up being fine! The subject material is definitely HARD but Professor Kass is amazing at giving feedback and will even give you the answers if you are struggling. 10/10 would take any class with Professor Kass again. P.s. Extra Credit
I wasn't a big fan of Dr. Kass until later in the semester. He's hard to warm up to and has high expectations, but it's only to prepare his students for whatever comes next. He even includes topics that are on the NCLEX, and lets us know when something is important for an exam or real-world application.
Kass is very enthusiastic about teaching A&P. He does tend to say "if you don't understand, then pick a new profession", but he just says that to scare you. He bases his tests on a pool of 200-300 questions, so often times the tests are luck of the draw. I recommend doing the connects way earlier than the deadline. Study hard for lab exams!
Easily my favorite professor at Umaine. It's not an easy course, but super meaningful and helpful if you have an interest in neuroscience. Lectures are entertaining, and the assignments are meaningful. He is very understanding and caring. He will allow you to pre-submit, (do this and you will be fine).
He is amazing and beyond helpful. He heavily scales all exams, which are not a significant portion of your grade. Time management is key, as you need to watch lecture videos and answer around 1000 mc HW questions per unit. If you stay on top of things and start your HWs well before they're due, you will do fine! He will always help if you email him
By far best professor at UMaine. He uploads all lectures at the start of the semester For BIO 474 he allows you to pre-submit work, where he reviews/edits it. Then you can submit your final submissions after! His expectations are clear and easy to understand. Highly recommend taking one of his courses if you are at all interested in science.
Pros get all assignments + exam questions in advance pre-submit assignments, get feedback Cons feedback given is copy/pasted template w/generic tips + he inputs your name exams graded harshly + heavily w/no explanation-draw diagrams from slideshow or no full credit no real answer keys-uses other student's work book never used Try hard + still lose
I really enjoyed professor Kass, he helped me out a lot and i would take another class with him in a heart beat.
I took Dr.Kass Med Phys class over the winter and he was amazing!! 10/10 professor
Dr. Kass is not afraid to challenge you, which is fitting as BIO 208 is no easy course. Although the exams are difficult, Kass teaches the material in a way which makes it fun to learn and study the material. His enthusiasm and overall character has made this class one of my more memorable experiences at The University of Maine.
Absolutely amazing professor. Leonard Kass is likely my favorite professor I've ever had. He makes the lectures engaging, entertaining, and interesting, he grades fairly, and is a fountain of knowledge.
Kass takes pride in the fact that his courses are rigorous and challenging. I think he is an engaging lecturer and truly cared about students learning. His course is intimidating but if you put in the work to do the bare minimum (turn your homework in on time and participate in case studies) you will get an A even if you don't do well on exams
One of my favorite teachers of all time. The exams are incredibly tough, but he scales all exams by 30 points, and with all the other assignments the exams don't have a huge impact on your final grade. This class had an insane amount of homework, with some homework assignments being over 200 questions long.
Prof. Kass runs a challenging yet engaging class. Homework is extensive, but exams are heavily scaled. Staying on top of work is key. Unstuck ai helped me ace this course.
