He is a good professor and he explains very well, but his exams are not that easy so you do have to study hard. This is chemistry so yo know you have to study anyways.
he doesn't care about his students unless they are as intelligent as he is. sorry but i am not as quick with org chem as an old man who has been doing this stuff all his life!! he hates answering your questions, he will definately make u feel stupid if u dare to ask one.

Very very difficult teacher, take him only if ur "high".
he is a difficult professor. If you study a lot(by a lot, i mean like 2 weeks before the exams)you prob. wont do that bad. Also he looks like Yoda...
His tests are long but fair. He explaines everything in detail. If you study you will get a good grade.
He teaches everything out of the book, word for word and gives u a test thats impossible. Totally unreal
god, who is this guy. I cant believe i took him. Organic isnt easy but this guy makes it seem like rocket science. That means dont take him
Hardest Teacher Ever! He's good though, he knows the material well and Yes he won't answer your questions sometime. But he's a great teacher except that his exams are impossible... other than that it's all good :) You'll have to study very hard!
Easy, fun class, for those with good background in General Chem. I took his Orgo I while in high-school, very fun class, helpful and straightforward lectures, and good, strong exams. Good class for anybody motivated enough, and certainly many have trouble with it.
Grading is biased. He curves unfairly and hardly at all. Class averages always in the low 60s
Thanks to the multiple choice keller has offishally gone soft. you sitll have to study ur ass off but at least its possible to get an A
He is a killer, thats what i call him. when he teaches in class, it seems like he is teaching students of class 5. but, when he gives an exam, it looks like it is designed for Ph.D students. After so much effort and still getting a C, I lost confidence over myself. Avoid him until you can!
Great teacher. Organic Chem is not an easy subject and you have to study a lot if you want to get a decent grade. It's up to you. Keller's exams are challenging but he doesn't test you on anything he didn't cover in class. Honestly, if you cannot do well on his exams... med school is not for you!
Before I took this class, I was scared out of my mind because "killer keller" was going to fail me! Honestly, just like calculus, physics, etc. this class is not easy but Dr. Keller is not a mean or difficult teacher. His tests aren't easy AT ALL but if you study you'll manage and it is possible to get an A in this class.
Keller is so far the best teacher i've had at FIU. As a senior at FIU, i truly admire him because he is very fair. His exams, are challenging so no matter who you take for ORG YOU MUST STUDY DAILY! Go Keller!
great at giving lectures, explains in detail but they dont call him Keller the Killer for nothing. this guys exams are nearly impossible. class averages were in the low 60's then the low 40's as the lessons got harder. try taking another professor.
Keller isn't so bad, his first two exams were easy. If you read the chapters and go over the material he covers in class only you'll do great. He is not hard at all. I was expecting him to be super hard and difficult, but hez not! I dunno why people consider his class to be impossible. If you STUDY, there is no reason why you should do bad.
I took CHM 221o with him and ended up with an A, but this was not an easy A. Studied for about 20+hours for his final exams. Did well on his first two tests and got a mediocre score on the third test, ohwell, the test right after Thanksgiving break didn't help at all. Keller gives good lectures and you have to do the practice problems to do well on
Prof.Keller is truly the best lecturer I know at FIU; Orgo is not a class to be messed around with, if you apply yourself you will succeed. I did not give it the attention it deserved and still ended up with a B. STUDY and DO the exercises. Memorize, but try to LEARN and look for patterns better. TOTALLY recommend him as a lecturer, STUDY HARD!!!
Really great lecturer, will repeat things 5 times because he knows what concepts students have difficulty in. he will exploit those difficulties on exams so make sure you know all the details of everything. NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A!!! curved about 10% at the very very end. i recommend him over the other orgo teachers! DON'T CRAM, STUDY DAILY!
Good professor. Study hard and you will get a good grade. And more importantly study daily. And, you will definitely get an A. His test are fair. Not that great in his office hours, just be prepare if you are going to visit him at his office ours. And, the DON'T MISS ANY LECTURESSS!!! That is the key of getting an A...
In lecture he explains everything in a very comprehensive way. However, for his exams you really need to know everything. If you want to pass the class you need to read a lot and do practice problems. Some questions in his exams come from the practice exam (but not most of them). Don't take him if you are taking more than 12 credits in the semester
This is THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED in my LIFE!! He is NOT helpful when asked questions. He does not care AT ALL about his students. The tests are impossible not matter HOW hard you study because they are not even like the study problems or the end of the chapter problems in the book. I MEMORIZED the 14 chapters and still could not
Don't take him unless you love organic chemistry and general chemistry was easy for you. His tests are the worst!!! I think he does it on purpose to fail you. I studied like crazy for his tests and still did bad on them. But don't get me wrong; he is an EXCELLENT lecturer!! He tries to explain every single little detail.
Dr. Keller is a wonderful lecturer, and is ready to answer questions after his lecture, but does not like to be interrupted. HIs exams are very hard, so you have to study a lot. Staying ahead with the reading and doing practice problems throughout the semester will help a lot. If you need to ask questions in his office, make an appt. great prof!
i found myself uselessly memorizing as much as i possibly could for the exams since you leave his class with absolutely NO knowledge of organic chemistry. disaster.
He is a great lecturer. Obviously organic chemistry is a hard course, and the tests are going to be tricky, which is why the class is heavily curved.
He is by far the best lecturer I have ever had, he explain his concepts extremely clearly. However, his exams are the hardest I have ever seen. Let me repeat his exams are ridiculously hard. I took this class again with Dr. Becker and passed it with an A. In short, he explains better than Dr. Becker but his exams will kill you.
He is AMAZING. You HAVE to do study, but people are severely stupid and lazy. I had trouble with Orgo I (took it with Becker and HATED him), and I passed Keller's Orgo II class with an A (A without curve). Just review his powerpoints DAILY and get old exams to study from and you're set.
Love living in the library?.This is ur profe.Want A for sure?.Forget it.Got B-.Chem Major.TEST ARE HARD BUT MOSTLY TRICKY AS YOU CAN IMAGINE.What u see,is not the correct answer.Tons of memorization and ppt.No HW.Makes u LEARN EVERY SINGLE DETAIL.He'll ask for it.30% dropped by 1st exam.Otherwise.BEST CHEMISTRY LECTURER U CAN POSSIBLE HAVE AT FIU.
What kind of professors are these!!!!. Leonard Keller will kill you with his tests. He might lecture better than other chem profs, but his tests are really hard. BEWARE.
Easy class. BUT THE PROFESSOR IS NOT CARING FOR STUDENT FEELINGS, YES, WHAT I MEAN IS THAT HE TAKES WAY TO LONG TO GIVE BACK FINAL EXAM GRADE!!! IT HAS BEEN SO LONG. I recommend another teacher.
This teacher does not care about anyone feelings. He is not helpful at all. All he cares about is getting through all his lecture. THE TEST WERE EXTREMELY HARD!!! And he barely curves. So I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
I don't think FIU has a better organic chem professor. He is an excellent lecturer. His tests are designed to to test you on EVERYTHING. He DOES make everything clear, don't expect to pass this class slacking off.
Keller is a great professor. But he earns his nickname, "Killer Keller". Tests are really hard and you will have to live in the library to survive. If you are up for the challenge you will understand Organic Chemistry like no other, even if your grade comes out to a C. If you don't have a tough load...take Keller or study with an asian friend :-)
Oh my God! Please don't take him...hell lot of experiences in those 3 months of time...Got an A but it was hell not easy....Don't get deceived with his lectures as he teaches really good...but his exams are super tricky....watch out!
Dr. Keller is by far the hardest teacher i taken at FIU i really think this man does not want to see his students passed his lectures were good clear and concise but his test are EXTREMELY DIFFCULT just beware of what you're gettin into and he makes you feel very uneasy in his office with those crazy facial expressions that he gives you when you ta
Dr.Keller is probably the best lecture you can get at FIU, but his test are very hard due to the fact that the questions are very tricky . Best thing you can do is get a tutor. Other than that you will learn Orgo with so if you plan on going to me school take him. He curves at the end of the class according to the clad average I ended up with a b+.
WARNING!!!!, stay away, this class is hard and Dr. Keller is crystal clear the book is good but the tests are extremely hard u could sleep in the library finishing the book understanding the book but guaranteed you will not pass his exams with an A or B or C maybe a D. and also you could do all the problem from the back of the book and its useless.
You're gonna get F'd in the A.
Dr. Keller knows his stuff, and he expects you to know it also. He gives EXTREMELY hard tests, but he gives great notes and takes his time in lecture. None-the-less, this class is HARD. Dr. Keller will be more than willing to assist you in his office hours, and I highly recommend you take advantage of that. Great teacher, HARD tests.
It's true that his tests were hard and tricky but if you knew the material really well, you would be able to solve them. There were 3 exams (he dropped the lowest grade) and a final. The final counted 200 points (half of your grade). Dr. Keller is my best professor so far. You will never walk out of the lecture not understanding the material covere
Exams are extremely difficult. Grades were usually really low. For those taking him study everyday and go to his office hours. Good luck -__-
Professor Keller is superb at lecturing. I love this man. BUT, like every response, his tests are HARD. I've heard that people who pass with A/B, studies by practicing questions from test banks.. For sure, his questions are not like the ones from the book. Overall, he is among the well-respected professors.
This guy is the best organic professor at FIU. His lectures as very clear. He would spend 20 minutes on one power point slide explaining every single detail, theory, and mechanism. Study his slides, know every detail, do the practice exams, and you should be good to go.
Is there some sort of conspiracy going on here? He is known as KILLER keller because his class is impossible to pass...HOW DOES HE HAVE GOOD RATINGS? This is crazy.
I think that you can totally pass if you put in enough effort. If you want an A though, you'll have to work for it like a maniac. He tests you on the smallest details so you have to memorize A LOT of information. If you can do that, you're good. He's a great professor though and I'd definitely recommend him.
Im at UF now but I honestly had to come back and rate this man. Organic Chem is not about memorizing and that is all this guy wants you to do. Very clear on what he wants but not in the overall sense of chemistry. You can do any problem in Organic without memorizing anything once you understand. Hes FOS - Chem Major.
Very good at lecturing. He curves at the end.You will LEARN. take it if you need to learn it. Not for lazy people. A is possible.
What can I say, organic chemistry is hard. No, that's a lie. Organic chemistry is challenging WHEN you have three other classes and labs... The material itself is not hard if you dedicate the time, however, Keller makes the exams very tricky. If Becker is teaching it take him instead. Study... A LOT! Learn everything, still get a B.
Dr. Keller is a great professor for teaching the material and if it weren't for his very tricky and hard exams he would be loved and taken by every student. I would wait and take someone else instead, unless you want to spend countless hours learning everything and still not making A's. The biggest challenge thus far.
Dr. Keller is an EXCELLENT lecturer. Study hard. Go to every lecture, he babies you through orgo. I recommend him if you are trying to actually learn the material (for MCAT or w/e). Very nice and if you put in the effort you can get a good grade and learn ALOT.
Great at lecturing. Tests are tricky and hard, the exam average is usually LOW ( in the 50% range)..so make sure to study like a maniac
Great professor, HARD exams. Studied every single day of my life and got a C in the class. Avoid and take someone else if you can
you can pay for tutoring/ study for a month and still not get an A on an exam...make him your last resort
His in class lectures aren't bad. However, his exams are very difficult. I am normally an A student. I studied very hard, got tutored and did all the practice problem he assigned and ended up with a D. He was a bit rude when I tried to speak to him about my grades during the semester. I would definitely NOT recommend this professor.
half the class fails the tests, but if you want to pass attend lectures/ study everyday...overall great prof, but horrible experience
He is great if you attend all lectures and study as much as you can, do all homework, his test are very specific with tricky questions but just study as much as you can do all review tests
If you haven't noticed yet orgo is not an easy subject. But Keller, besides being a great lecturer and great professor, sticks to exactly the material he gives to you. He doesn't curve right after the tests, that's why people may say he is so tough. He curves in the end of the semester. If you want to LEARN, take him. If not, drop out of college!
Best professor for organic chemistry at FIU (period). He is a master at teaching the subject and you will learn if you go to the class like a student should.
The best professor at FIU. Including the Engineering campus. The test aren't easy but I have never understood Chemistry before, from just going to the lectures. I wish I had him for CHM 2010.
Great professor but exams are VERY HARD. If you come out of the test thinking you did well, you are wrong!! your score will most likely be a 54% LOL no joke... watch out for his traps!
Good at lecturing, tests are very hard and tricky. Takes forever to post your grades. Take de la vega if possible.
Keller takes his time explaining every concept to make sure you understand. He's one of the easiest organic professors relative to his peers because of how clear he makes himself. Everyone should definitely take him if you want to learn.
This guy is going to make you study chemistry in depth just to pass his tests with an average grade. Seriously you should not take him, just attend his lectures to learn because he lectures well, even if he is boring
Good lectures straight from the book which makes it easy to follow along. Problem is his exams have little to do with the textbook. His exams are not about what you know but more how well you can catch errors in the answer choices. You need to pay EXTRA attention to the question AND choices. If you can take someone else do it avoid the headache.
The first thing someone recommended me to not do at this school was to take him.. And that was the first thing I did. And I'm happy I did. He is amazing! Advice: read PowerPoint before class. He explains very well and it'll be easier to understand if you've been through it before. Work on practice exams they do help. Catch mistake on exam questions
Dr.Keller is an excellent teacher. His exams are difficult but he does provide a practice exam before each test. His lectures are very long though he does a great job at explaining the material. Take him only if you are prepared to study. Attendance is not mandatory, but I advise you to go!
Professor Keller is not as bad as everyone thinks he is. Everyone says his exams are hard but if you study off of his powerpoints, practice exams and the text book, you should be fine. You don't even have to go to class as long as you study from those three things.
Love this professor! He is a great teacher and very helpful if you go to him! Definitely take him!Study A LOT, but it is possible because he provides with everything for you to succeed.I was a little scared when I started taking his class because of all the bad comments, but don't be scared, I'm telling you, he is GREAT! Got an A in his class.
Dr. Keller is a great teacher! He spends time going over avery little detail because he wants you to know your material. He makes the exams extremly tough because they are multiple choice. Everyone did well on exam 1 but failed exam 2 and 3. Final is worth too much... Most people will get a C. I studied my brains out and got a B. Good luck
Organic chem is going to be super hard no matter who you take it with. I'm retaking this class and i LOVE keller! He takes his time in explaining everything in full detail, and you can tell he really cares about his students. I would definitely recommend him!
Keller's class is very boring, although he is very good explaining. His practice exams are way easier than the actual test. His tests are hard.
I'm retaking this class with Dr. Keller. His 3rd exam and the final exam are the hardest exams you will probably take at FIU as a science major.. Most people will average 50s on exam I and II and the final will also be killers. That's "killer Keller" for you
Its organic chemistry...what can you say? His voice can be a bit monotone but he's not a terrible guy. You have to study a lot regardless. His practice tests help out a bit, but basically you just have to stay on top of the material. 3-in class exams, all multiple choice.
Very smart professor knows the subject well. on the other hand his test are Crazy studied a week in advanced and still would get 60-70%. Take this class if you have the ability to study a for it exclusively 2-3 hours a day
Take it from a chemistry major, Keller is a bad choice. The structure of his class and exams will greatly hinder the knowledge one should have after the class. Keller has a monotone that puts me to sleep and goes at painfully slow pace. Wont finish the material. For a good foundation in organic chemistry, I recommend someone else.
Keller's exams are MC, yet extremely difficult and almost impossible to pass. he makes many mistakes in his exams so while you're taking them you will hear "I need to make a correction on version 4 question 37, correction on version 5 number 14" during the entire exam. he is careless. Class avg was constantly in 50s, he curved a little but not much
Of all the orgo professors, I learn more from Keller's lectures, but his exams are thorough and difficult yet they are multiple choice so it's possible to score high without getting outside help.
Keller is a very good professor, if you are not a chemistry genius you should take him. His lectures are very helpful, although you can get a little bored sometimes, but he is very specific and detailed with his explanations. He will explain everything very clear. This is my second time taking him and I am actually enjoying it more this time.
Orgo is not an easy subject, but after attending all of Keller's lectures & making sure to spend at least 2-3 days studying before a test, I passed with an A. If you're not the best at orgo, take it with Keller. His lectures are boring, but he tells you what you need to know. His tests are tricky, but the fact they're multiple choice is a blessing.
Orgo by itself is a tough subject! His lectures are long but informative, practice when it comes to the mechanisms. Memorize what he says because it will most likely be on the exam. Exams are multiple choice and recycles the questions. If you can get previous practice exams, you'll be fine. He curves each exam and he curves at the end.
Dr. Keller is my FAVORITE professor in the chem department! Super sweet and always available to help when you need it. People who complain and fail are the ones who don't go to class. As long as you go, pay attention and put in some effort, you'll pass with an A! DEFINITELY take him if you can, although I think he might be retiring soon.
Keller is a nice guy, but meh as a professor. His lectures are boring and he takes forever to explain material so I suggest reading the textbook. Exams are MC but tricky and always full of errors. Unfortunately, there aren't that many options for professors, and they're all pretty bad at FIU.
