Great teacher, has a lot of reading and a few busy work assignments, but overall his class is pretty easy and he is totally worth taking. Midterms are simple scripture memorization. Teaches doctorines powerfully and with passion.
Great teacher. He does require you to memorize scriptures, but other than that all he requires is reading. Great insight, great teacher.

Great teacher good ways of having discussions not lectures
He is my favorite professor of all time. It didnt feel like a chore to sit in class and take notes. He established rapport with everyone in the class. His tests are memorization, which can be rough but its worth having the class for.
Good teacher and great spirit

Very spiritual man. I felt remarkable and unmistakable feelings as he taught. He strives to teach the truth--rather than his own doctrine. The scripture memorization was difficult--but I was able to use the same ones again for the final. Well worth the growth! He also was very kind and understanding. He knew exactly how to help me with my questions
I LOVE BROTHER PETERSON!!!!
DON'T fall asleep in this class or you will get your grade dropped significantly. I found it very hard to even go to this class, let alone stay awake. I honestly hated this religion class more then my math class, which is sad because I love religion classes. I just found that he talked about one thing over and over-beating the point to death.
The class was organized awkwardly, for lack of a better word. He didn't have any due dates for any of the assignments or on the reading. I got really frustrated with it. He's a nice guy and he knows the material but it was hard to get into the class when I was stressing out about when to get things turned in.
Worst class ever. All of the reading is w/o due dates so you just have to pace yourself which works for some people, but not me. And i didn't feel like we got anywhere in this class. You spend a week talking about the same thing. I felt like i was going in circles through this whole class. Dreaded going every day
I love Bro Petersen! He is hilarious! The class is way easy, if you care about that. The only complants I have is that he moves like a snail! It takes a semester to get through Genesis. Also, if you put things off he won't be good for you because the reading is due at the end of the semester so you really have to be on top of it.
I really did not like this class. He just lectures on what he feels is important and doesn't really care what anyone esle wants to talk about. People will raise their hands for 15 min. and he will never call on them. We spent 6 weeks on the same topic and I don't think I learned almost anything. It is a pretty easy class but super boring.
Very helpful and spiritual
He was the worst religion teacher I have ever had. He had no reading schedule laid out and he stayed on one topic for weeks. It was soooo boring. I don't think I learned anything because he didn't care what we wanted to learn he would only lecture about things he wanted to (which were basic and pretty much everyone knew it already).
Bro. Petersen is my all time favorite Religion teacher! He's on fire! He's so awesome, so spiritual, & you always learn something every class. If you have a comment, he'll always get to you even if it's off subject. He's hilarious. You'll always have a good laugh or giggle during his class. You need to take him. It will be your loss if you don't!
He's good, sometimes cracks a joke or two which are dry sometimes but overall his lessons are wonderful! For this class he required us to prepare four lesson plans and teach one of them which i hate...but oh well...there has to be a downside somewhere
Worst teacher ever.Preaches his own doctrine.Monotone voice, aimless one-sided lectures, and Annoying! I would rather go to the dentist than his class, and least they give you novacaine for the pain they put you through.
I really enjoyed his class! He's a tad monotone, but great stories. Really easy too! I got an A in his class, EASY! I learned a lot too.
Brother Peterson was so close with the Spirit and taught such beautiful doctrines from the Book of Mormon. He was re-organizing his lesson plans to incorporate the Learning Model more, and it was so good. I highly recommend him.
Had him for marriage prep. He is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. The class was phenomenal. Instead of learning how to "get along," we learned the doctrines behind marriage. The class was so powerful; it was truly life changing. It was not an easy class, but it was well worth it.
Great info. A bit boring sometimes but lots of info. He does let you know that you are wrong if he feels you are, so if you take his class don't get offended. Just have fun and enjoy the information. He does a lot of lecture also.
I had Peterson for D&C and now this class...i might take another class from him. He knows his scriptures and facts! It's incredible! Don't take this class as a block class it is way too hard. He is funny! Recommend!
He is very easy teacher. You keep track of your own points. He doesn't explain things very well, and scatters all over the place! Funny at times, but holds us after class way too long!!!
As long as you do your reading and show up to class every time, it's an easy A.
Good teacher, knows the doctrine very well. He can be a little monotonish sometimes, but he can also be kind of funny. he has a different kind of humor. knows his stuff though.
He was a great teacher! No Hw just reading and one group project. Super easy, but incredibly rewarding. He opend my eyes to alot a that I hadn't realized. He is laid back and will give extra credit. We grade ourselves on attendance, bringing materials and a few other things. I highly recommend him if you want to learn without the busy work.
The most amazing teacher I've ever had on this campus. He class encourages you to be a better person. I enjoy speakign to him. He's indepth guy who really has concerns for the people to meets or who are in his class. Take him before you graduate and I promise you won't be disappointed.
Very helpful, and insightful.
He is funny and very insightful with Doctrinal knowledge. The class was easy and I still learned a lot. He can be really awkward at times though.
This teacher was the WORST! I hated going to class this semester, which is sad cause religion classes are supposed to be fun and relaxing. I felt like someone was ripping my hair out the whole time i was in there. His "lessons" were miserable, I brought a magazine to read during class. ps. don't say any of the prophets are cute, he'll have a cow.
By far my favorite religion teacher so far. Easy A if you come to class and read your scriptures. Doesn't require lame journals. Bro. Peterson is awesome. Funny, really spiritual class.
He is amazing!! There are never any tests or quizes! You only have to keep track if you do the reading. Take his class! Great insights and an easy A!!!
LOVE HIM. Lots of reading but totally worth it! Memorize 4 scriptures out of D&C but other than that you are good to go. Oh and go to class.
This guy is ridiculous! He repeats himself over and over. His classes are lecture, not discussion. He chases the spirit away going off on Drew Barrymore and Michael Jordan tangents. You don't discuss your preparation assignments at all. Gets distracted very easily. Waste of time and religion class.
Funny, Nice, & Easiest Rel teach I've had here. Only outside assignments that were graded are 4 teaching outlines. Kind of bland in the material covered, felt like I was learning the same stuff every day. He does go off on tangents specifically with deeper parts of the gospel. Attendance mandatory for 4.0, overall very easy A and will take again.
Bro Peterson is a great guy and teacher. He does get side tracked but doesn't require hardly any homework other than reading but that is expected in a religion class. He is kind and explains stuff. Easy A and interresting material.
I love religion classes, they help me have the spirit all through the week. So pretty much I love and need them. But Petersen is...terrible. He doesn't cover the stuff we're made to read, and he doesn't involve the class. He just stands and repeatedly talks about the same stuff. I was glad I only took a block class with him.
Are you tired of teachers making religion classes full of outside work that takes away from other classes? Well he doesn't do that. You have a institute feel to the class. Just read and go and you'll get an A. You really get deep into doctrine. Learned a ton. Just beware he is a little monotone but is a great teacher. Recommend!
I loved Brother Petersen's class. He really cares about each of his students and tries to learn about what's going on in their lives. I found this refreshing as most of my professors aren't as interested. I learned a lot in the class and was amazed by his gospel insight. He may seem monotone in the beginning, but he's got a great sense of humor.
Bro P is a greatguyandsoso nice however i found it a struggle to stay awake in his class. i dreaded going to his class which is awful because it isareligiousclass. i am a very good study and tried very hard to getthemostoutofit butit was difficult. we literally talked about the gathering of israel and the old testament every day...it was a BOM clas
Awesome book of mormon class. The doctrines we explored were all based upon the direction the class moved. Everything in terms of reading was on our honor and I learned more in depth than I have yet to in any other religion class and with efficiency. Instead of tedious ineffective work.
VERY boring. Basically repeated lesson 1 every day. But no paper. A few lesson plans. Nice nice man, but I mostly couldn't stay awake in the class. Easy A though, if you show up. Used a lot of pictograms, I liked that. Ran through timelines.
Nice Guy, however classes are very boring. He doesn't move on with information. He will stay on the same topic for weeks at a time, and most of it people are already familiar with. Wouldn't recommend this class from this teacher.
I was really interested in taking this class, but Brother Petersen makes even interesting subjects super boring. Its a fight to stay awake in his class. He assigns a lot of busy work but its not that difficult. It's weird to have a religion class with a mid-term and a difficult final.
Bro. Petersen is a fantastic teacher. I loved going to class. I learned a ton every day in the class and was one of the only classes that I looked forward to. He made many of the old testament teachings simple and clear. I would recommend him to anyone looking to really learn and gain a deeper understanding.
He is my ideal religion teacher. No papers, quizzes, or tests. And your grade isn't based on class participation. Just do the reading and show up to class! Great man and great teacher.
Most boring man on earth. Super easy class, but a lot of reading. I was really interested in this class, but he made it so boring and he repeated himself all the time. I didn't get much from his lectures. I learned a lot from the talks we read though. Don't take this professor. You will get frustrated.
This class was so great! I learned a lot and I enjoyed every moment of class.
I loved this class! He made the BoM class so much more than I thought it would be. He takes you deeper than you think you could go and the class is student learning directed which is great for this class.
Great class! Great teacher!
HE'S CRAZY!!! but in a good way. He is very knowledgable and taught very well about the Issaih chapters in the Book of Mormon. So if you want to unerstand those chapters for once he is definitely the professor to go to!
i took bro Petersen for old testament. we didn't talk about the OT that much, all we talked about were doctrines that can be found in the OT. he cant hold a lesson together without going on tangents. Homework is on an honor basis so you could lie through his class and get an A really easy. but i don't lie so it was HARD. I WOULD NOT RECOMEND HIM.
I loved the material, but he presented the information horribly. For work he expects high quantity but zero quality. I did not get the impression at all that he cared for the student.
brother petersen talked about adam and eve the entire semester. i was looking forward to really learning about the old testament (it's not exactly my first choice of scripture to turn to) but we spent a whole semester in genesis and were expected to read the rest on our own. don't take him unless you want the same thing each class. nice guy though!
missed half of his classes but super strict with attendance
By far my favorite professor. I had him for World Religions and every single class had me completely interested. He presented interesting views, a balance between Mormonism and other world religions and he was so passionate about what he taught. He is tough, though. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND BE IN CLASS.
Bro Peterson is boring. He seems uncomfortable when he teaches. Honestly, I brought my homework with me to class to do instead of listen to him. The topic-World Religions-was much more interesting than he made it seem. Your whole grade is based on attendance and a book you make, not on participation so listening isn't required.
well, super easy A, which is great because religion classes that are hard seem silly. I am not sure how well prepared he is for each class. We drew the same stick figures everyday till midterms. Knows a lot about basic principles of the gospel and isn't afraid to say "I don't know"
Brother Petersen was super nice and really funny, I really liked him, but the class was pretty boring. I felt like we learned about the same thing every day of the semester, and I didn't really like that. It was a really easy A as long as you went and did your homework.
WONDERFUL CLASS!
This class was strangely difficult for a religion class. On top of the reading and journal entries we had a quiz and three one page papers due every week. In other classes that's no big whop but for a 2 credit class it's a bit excessive in my mind.
Just follow instructions and you'll get A. He doesn't evaluate quality. No exams. Class is boring because you go over the same things all the time.
AMAZING teacher! :) He goes over a lot of the stuff a couple times to make the doctrine clear! Not repetitive because he ADDS to the previous class' doctrine. And adds incredible things! I left the class edified every time! He teaches new doctrine SO simply!! It is amazing what you can learn in his class! I loved every minute of it! He cares!
One of the best and brightest teachers I've ever had. Pay attention and you'll learn a lot. He has a great way of thinking and presenting the text. Highly highly recommend.
This class was awesome! I loved the teacher and he was really funny. I think so far this has been my favorite religion class! He makes classes really interesting and is very knowledgeable about the Book of Mormon.
knows a TON about the doctrine, and expounds it in a way that is easy to grasp. An amazing man and an amazing teacher! keep up with the online portion of te curse and you'll be great.
He was an amazing teacher. I have never learned this much in a religion class. Don't let him scare you out of it because it is such a good class. Make sure you can attend the class because he counts it and the classes are amazing! I am taking another class by him because it was so awesome!
He is for sure my favorite teacher so far.
Awesome
I liked the class, but I didn't like it at the same time. I'm a firm believer that a religion class shouldn't have very much work. There was TOO much homework within this course. The final at the end is very confusing. I would recommend taking this class from another teacher who is more clear and concise about what they want.
Brother Petersen is an amazing teacher. Yes the class requires work, but the work was very enjoyable. You grow to learn more about the leaders of the Church. He expects you to do the work and show up, which is common sense because we are enrolled in the class. He's a fun teacher and so nice. He also makes class very interesting. I recommend him.
I tried really hard to like this teacher. He is a great guy, but his class is not. We got the same lecture for 12 weeks in a row about the olive tree and the gathering of Israel with no new insights each time. He spent most of the time in the bible and didn't connect it well to the BOM. Yes, super easy class. You only learn from your personal study
NO TESTS! Reflection paragraphs is all. He comes across as scary, but he's seriously the best ever!!!
It's a difficult thing for me to put across exactly what taking this class was like. On one hand it's the easiest class I've ever really taken. But sitting in class I had no idea what was going on. I took a class on the Book of Mormon, but all we ever talked about was Isaiah. Bro Petersen loves the scriptures, thats about all i learned
Easy A. All the assignments are personal evaluations on what you worked on. However, he is SUPER strict on attendance and completing your evaluations on time. If you give a bad excuse he will lower your grade. Peterson's class focuses on doctrines rather than on personal feelingstestimony (VERY MUCH SO). If that interests you, I highly recommend.
Simply put, this class is almost a blow off class but it's not. Petersen is extremely meticulous about you following the rules with exactness. My advice is to read his e-mails and look out for the rare surprise assignment. Late means a 0.
Brother Petersen is an awesome professor, and he's funny, which is a plus. Attendance is important, like it is for all other religion classes at this University. He doesn't accept late work, but if you do the reading and homework and submit it on time, you'll do just fine.
I have never worked so hard in a religion class. There is tons of reading, attendance is mandatory, and no electronics are allowed. I really did not like the way he graded. If you want full credit, he required 3 hours of study outside of class. He's hilarious in person though.
I did NOT like him at all. He kicked out a few of my friends for no reason at all. He just didnt like them and didnt like me either and refused to help me when I was struggling. I had a family emergency adn he didnt beleive me, I missed ONE more class than I could have, and I lost credit. And he rambles on again and again about the same topics.
He is a great teacher if you want to learn new things. He really is caring even though at the beginning he seems like a hard teacher. His syllabus is super long to weed out the people who do not want to try at all. Most of his class is based on integrity and answering whether or not you did the reading and then two one hundred word "essays."
It is the second class that I take from him, I learned a lot. Very funny and spiritual. Extremely easy A! No Tests. HW not that bad. Learn a lot and have fun. Bless your heart Bro Petersen!!! I am just saying....
He is amazing. Not everybody likes his style but you do learn a lot from him. I love him and his classes. There are a lot of readings, but that is basically all the work you'll do and short essays just to explain what you've learned from your readings. No quizzes, no exams, homework is not hard at all. Easy A.
I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't be graded based on your testimony &this class was a nice balance of work and spirituality. He is a super nice guy and really knows his stuff. Only complaint is the class seemed to be really repetitive and it felt like we had the same lesson every class. All in all it was an enjoyable and passable class.
Super easy class, but not very spiritual. Spent the whole semester teaching on how Lehi was realted to the 12 tribes, which does not cover the first half of the Book of Mormon. Although, no tests and one or two homework assignments that had to be turned in. Grade bonus for not missing class.
Bro. Petersen's class had a lot of work, but we had great class lessons. I took this as a hybrid so I only had traditional class on Fridays. No midterm or final, but lots of homework. At first, Bro. Petersen seems strict, but he just expects a lot. He's a great teacher and I would recommend him. Be aware of essays.
