This is the UGS 303 The Race in the Age of Obama. Just read the books get notes from class and you will get an A. Easy as hell class with a funny ass professor. Sometimes he goes overboard, but I don't care, I just took care of this dumb UGS credit
AMAZING CLASS AND PROFESSOR! TAKE THIS CLASS. read & take notes and you will get an A plus no doubt. Funny professor. His lectures are not mandatory but they are so good and interesting, you will want to come anyways. He is actually a pastor, so he knows how to keep students engaged. Easiest A you will ever get at UT. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Took him for the Obama class. Absolutely great professor. Has his own opinions, but encourages the class to voice their own. I NEVER read the books, but managed to get A's on all tests. Go to class, not because you have to, but because it's fun!
One the most enjoyable professors to listen to. Easy class, even if you haven't read the books. You can totally B.S. your way to an A, but the material is interesting so most people typically don't. He's very funny and opinionated. Encourages class discussion of major issues. Take this class!
He's a great professor! Every class session seemed to go so fast because it was that much fun. He talked about life, and various things that a lot of college students need to hear. I'd recommend this class to everybody! There were 2 tests, 1 group project, and a few papers, but the class is still a great class.
He is amazing, there is absolutely no way you can fail this class. He makes class fun so you actually want to attend, it's not like your being forced to go.
Black Power Movement with Dr. Moore was extremely engaging, fun, and you can take a lot away from his class. Tests are essay and multiple choice but they change each year. Go to lecture and STUDY
One of the best professors at UT hands down (and definitely my favorite). He's much more interested in critical thinking and learning rather than bubbling in answers. He's engaging and honest. I wish he taught more classes so I could take one each semester.
Dr.Moore's class was absolutely AMAZING ( Fall 2013)! We had 3 tests (all essay based) and 4 short writing assignments,. I got an A in his calss. He is really kind and cares about students. He told us once that if we didn't have somewhere to go for Thanksgiving that the doors to his home where open.
Dr. Moore is absolutely the best professor at UT. Very funny, intelligent and engaging. He encourages student to think outside the box and share their ideas and opinions. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Always very captivating. This class taught me things about life I NEEDED to know. There was a lot of novel reading but all the books were pretty interesting. He did make a lot of sports references - beware.
I could say hands down my favorite course and professor at UT. He is very funny and interesting lectures. Does assign novels but always interesting to read. Highly recommend to take his course before graduating.
Dr. Moore is incredible. Great lectures and great fun. However, I feel awful about being a middle-class male every time I walk out of there. But he admits, if you walk out of there thinking, he knows he's doing his job correctly.
Dr. Moore is the type of professor that wants you to be globally competitive, he is here for you and wants you not to be afraid of either success or failure. If you participate in his lectures all the time, you're in for some good debates. He is very critical because he wants us to be ready for what's out there in the real world. He creates leaders
Dr. Moore's class is very powerful. Very low workload. Lectures are great, once you see how he is you wont want to miss them. He cancels class a few times in the semester. This isn't your typical class. This class will prepare you for the real world in ways other courses will not. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Moore's lectures in the Black Power Movement class are funny, thought-provoking, and changed the way I view many issues surrounding race. However, a major problem with this class was a lack of organization. Moore rarely returns emails, doesn't provide clear instructions, and generally gives little attention to student's concerns.
He is by far the most amazing professor and easily connects with his students
Dr. Moore is perhaps one of my best professors because he presents his ideas on controversial topics in such a way that once you take his class, your eyes are opened and you see things in a much different way than before. 3 tests, 1 projectassignment worth 20%, and the tests were free response, and easy. Attendance is not required, but go anyway!
I took the Race in the Age of Obama. It's an easy class to take as an elective. He's a really good speaker. Through this class I leaned a lot about myself and other people.
Dr. Moore is literally one of my favorite professors of my collegiate career. I actually look forward to all of his classes, and have never missed one. I even get upset when he cancels class. My friends who aren't even in his class come to our lectures just to hear him speak. He's very opinionated so don't be sensitive but he's also VERY inspiring.
The class itself wasn't hard. Test were easy and based off of the books and his lectures. I didn't like how the lectures were almost never relevant to the book or the subject of the class. I didn't like how he presented his opinions as if they were facts, but other than that he was O.K.
I took both his UGS303 and Black Power Movement course. Easily the most interesting professor I've had. While attendance isn't mandatory, I don't see why you would want to skip his lectures. He encourages people to debate with him and opens many eyes to issues that we may not always think about. Just take notes and read the books for an easy A.
Dr. Moore is one of the most inspiring professors I will probably ever have in my collegiate career. His lectures are thought-provoking and influential. However, he is very disorganized when it comes to testing and assignments; he said it himself that he doesn't want to be "tied down by a syllabus". He's also very difficult to contact via email.
Interesting lectures but the course was extremely disorganized- no textbooks or powerpoints and Dr. Moore posted little to none on Canvas. All exams are free response/essay and can be quite difficult unless you know the material from the assigned reading and lectures extremely well. Dr. Moore is a quite liberal professor, lectures are verypolitical
This guy is raw and real in his lectures. He might come off a little irrational but what he says is true, and makes you change your perception. Honestly, you can get by reading the books on sparknotes, but the books assigned are usually good.
Probably the easiest A you'll have at UT. Very interesting, engaging and eye opening lectures, and all tests were easy and over a combination of the book you're reading and his lectures. Basically, show up and have a good understanding of the books and you'll do great.
Dr. Moore's Race in the Age of Obama was one of my favorite courses. The reading was all very good. The lectures were even better. He truly is passionate about the subject he teaches and loves to challenge student views. Expect to laugh and be open-minded!
Dr. Moore is great he helps you understand different point of views in different topics. He is always engaged and the books we read for his class are not boring at all, they are very interesting. His tests are also easy. You can get an easy A in this course!
Amazing. I loved the way he would show different points of view according to a certain issue. Also, the readings were good and the class is nowhere near boring
Dr. Moore's class is an amazing choice for so many reasons. Not only does he discuss controversial issues that are not often looked at. He also discusses other issues that can help incoming freshman look at themselves from a different perspective and help them look at their future and how they can make themselves successful. He is a great lecturer.
Race in the Age of Obama one great class. His novel selections, along with his lectures are so current; it keeps many of today's students interested. This is definitely a great class; I would not stop talking about the issues brought up in class. Tests were pretty easy, and the writing assignments weren't tough either.
Dr. Moore was an amazing lecturer. You could tell that he seriously cared about the success of each student in a 500+ person class. There was a lot of reading, but it was spaced out far enough that it wasn't too bad. 1 quiz, 3 essay tests, and 1 project made up the grades. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Moore.
I honestly think if you take this UGS303 class... you will learn so much! I loved his lectures but it's really your TA that you have to discuss your grades with. So more than the professor, your TA makes a bigger difference. Dr, Moore is so knowledgeable and makes his classes "real" because we discuss about topics that are eye-opening!
Love the lecture but it is not connected to the way the class is graded. Dr. Moore and the TA's seem to be on a different page so it was sometimes confusing.
Dr. Moore was absolutely amazing! I have never had a professor as passionate as he was towards what he was teaching. There was a lot of variety in the topics he spoke about. The tests cover the assigned books. If you skim the books, you will be just fine. Super easy exams.
Dr. Moore is an inspiring lecturer. He discusses issues that are sensitive and keep the class engaged. All the books he assigned were great reads. The tests were based off the books and some lecture material but because the books were so easy to read, the tests were also easy. Even if you don't have the class, stop to listen to one of his lectures!
This class is interesting to attend every day and he's a great professor, truly inspiring and really likes to get to know his students. The books in the class are very interesting as well and exams are based on it. The tests are free response and there's always an essay question. Attending class is never mandatory. Easy history class!!
Very smart - Hilarious - Laid back - Outgoing
I believe he assigned four papers within the semester. He was an amazing lecture. Although you could get away with missing some classes, you would not want to. His lectures were completely insightful and though provoking. I am lucky that I was in a program that made it mandatory to be placed in his class. Best class to take while entering college.
I actually had this professor for two different classes my first semester of my freshman year! Absolutely loved him. He opened my eyes to so much and really broadened my perspective about the world and others different from myself. You do need to work in this class but you learn so much cool stuff! WORTH the time.
Amazing professor. Just be sure to take a lot of notes in his classes, as there isn't a supplement. No exams, but the capstone project was a lot of work.
Dr. Moore is one of the best, if not the best, professor I've had at UT. History of the Black Power Movement was such an amazing class and I wish I could take it again. Its a class of 500 students, yet he is still able to have class wide discussions. Tests are all essay based and can be difficult. If you want an A, reading and attendance is a must.
The class is very interactive so be ready to speak up. Dr. Moore likes debates and expects you to come in with an open mind. You will learn a lot about Minorities and just life lessons in general. Keep up with the reading because there are pop quizzes. Tests are not bad as long as you pay attention and attend class.
Dr. Moore has a unique way of carrying his class. He is very opinionated which makes for an excellent professor. He is straight up and to the point. He does not sugar coat anything and he is not afraid of offending anyone. Come with an open mind, it will transform your life. He choose excellent books for the course. I never missed a lecture!
Amazing class! Prof was awesome and class was super easy, I skipped lectures sometimes but we always went over them in small group. Just take some notes and be prepared for essay tests but this was insanely easy. And totally made me think about the world and what I should do differently
Dr. Moore truly is one of the best professors at UT. He tries to engage everyone in class and asks for opinions and stereotypes that we all hold in an effort to dispense them. While I hardly agree with anything that he tried to claim, I do respect his reasoning and arguments. The tests are essay and easy. You'll WANT to attend his lectures!!
My class was an hour and a half long and I would say only about 20 minuets of class time was actually lecture. The rest of the time Moore would just rant about things and we would have class discussion. It was super easy but I learned a ton
Never before has a professor or mentor in my life been more influential or real than Dr. Moore. It is not so much as what he says in particular on a matter, but the idea of it that gets you really thinking about yourself and humanity. Definitely changed my mindset and work ethics for my other classes, so the positive influence is without bounds.
Dr. Moore is honestly the GOAT if you're not taking his class you're truly missing out. You leave his class each day with a new perspective on an aspect of life. Midterm & final are essays, rest of grades are about 4 pop quizzes and a service learning reflection. Easy A as long you try, just have to show up to class & listen to the GOAT speak.
Pretty much the only class I looked forward to going to. He's super personal and his lectures are really interesting, if you take his UGS you'll definitely be challenged your freshman year. Highly recommend the class, it was insanely easy.
Not a class you want to skip. Dr. Moore is so entertaining/engaging. At first he seems a bit much, but this was easily my favorite class all semester. He seems intimidating, but if you don't agree with him, feel free to speak your mind. The class is essay heavy over assigned books, but just focus on content, not your typical English essay format.
BEST CLASS! You definitely don't have to go to lectures to do good in the class but you won't want to miss it! Not many assignments but when you do get them they are lengthy and your grade depends on your TA (I never got anything under 100). I miss this class so much I learned so much and wish I could take it again Dr. Moore is one of UT's finest.
Dr. Moore was amazing! As my first semester at UT, I had him for the black power class, and as a UGS. It was amazing being able to see him lecture everyday, since his lectures always left me speechless. If I could take him every semester, I would. Reading is mandatory since exams and essays are based on books, but they're interesting.
Next to Meth, Leonard is the best professor at UT. Highly recommend first-year students to take his UGS course.
Dr. Moore is amazing. He opened my eyes to new ideas. I would HIGHLY recommend taking this class. The books are not expensive and most of the time they are free online so do not worry. Most of the people did not even read but still passed. There are random quizzes but super easy and off the book. My favorite class so far! I will take him again!
This course was amazing!. I would recommend this to everyone.
funny and engaging professor opened my eyes to other perspectives STRONG political bias (welcome to atx) required books were interesting discussion session with assigned TA for 1 hour a week pop quizzes given in lecture & in discussion section write 2 timed essays for midterm & final topics easy to predict you get study guides
-Funny and engaging professor -Opened my eyes to other perspectives -STRONG political bias (welcome to atx) -Required books were interesting -Discussion section with assigned TA for 1 hour a week -Pop quizzes given in lecture & in discussion section -Write 2 timed essays for midterm & final -Topics are easy to predict -You get study guides
This class is overall an easy A. Exams are easy. I read the books required but I'm pretty sure you can get by with just Sparknotes. The lectures were interesting but when he says "everyone's thoughts are respected," he really means just his. If he doesn't agree with your point of view he just tears you apart in front of the class.
Moore likes to express his opinions instead of facts. In his lectures, he talks about the past instead of what is happening in the "current age". Also, his humor consists of making fun of different races. Nevertheless, he is an effective speaker and manages to somewhat convey the course material.
Amazing prof! The semester's halfway over but I'm confident I'll make an A. Gives great lectures about race that really make you think. Super funny too. Read 4 interesting books and have essay based tests on them as well as a final group project. Essay Qs are broad and easy; go to class bc they incorporate things from the lecture too.
I took this class only because I was really interested in this topic. Dr. Moore is a very funny and engaging teacher. There are some days where we have conversations about tough issues such as rape culture. I always looked forward to class, which is a rarity in college. Tests are pretty easy even if you just study the night before.
Definitely take Dr. Moore ! His lectures was an hour but very interesting and I had to buy 4 novels which I purchased from amazon or half price books. He gives you a different view on race relations in the US. The only way you won't pass if you don't even attempt to read a portion of the book or don't go to none of the lecture. Easy A.
Dr. Moore is one of the best professors on campus.
Great lecturer. Loves to hand out "real talk" and tackle stigmas in society. Very inspirational and does his best to engage class. Have to read books that are interesting and covered on his tests. Tests are a combo of book and notes from class - read the books! Make sure to go to class to get notes because he says them randomly during lecture.
Dr. Moore likes to rant. He talks about a lot of irrelevant stuff during lecture. He's very opinionated. That's why half of his class started to skip going to lecture in the middle of the semester. The discussion class on Friday is mandatory so few people skipped. But yeah, pretty easy A. Just show up, participate, and you win.
Dr. Moore is a great and engaging lecturer. He does ramble sometimes but makes good points. Be sure to read the books and take notes of his "lists" because that's what the tests are. He is woke
His lectures are worth going to! Very inspirational and motivating, he talks about things you are afraid to talk about. Also very funny. Overall one of my favorite professors so far
I loved this class so much, the lectures were always my favorite part about my day and the discussions really broadened my mind. The TA's are a little tricky about giving unfair grades sometimes but if you just talk to them about your concerns, they'll fix it. Other than that, keep up with the readings and you're fine!
He is AMAZING!!! He gets off topic and gives life advice, but honestly, I recommend him to everyone. Experience his class for yourself. Please.
Do yourself a favor and take his class! He is inspirational and taught me so much this semester. Leads real conversations. Discussion sections also great. Read to do well on the essay based tests, and also try hard on the group project at the end of the semester, because it ended up being worth a lot more than what was said on the syllabus.
He relies a lot on rhetoric to persuade people of his arguments. He is quite intimidating. He says he wants people to talk and give opinions, he doesn't listen when you give an opinion and argues it before he understands it. He is almost impossible to meet outside class. However, he does get his students thinking by discussing taboo topics.
The best class at the University of Texas, no matter your race. I took Black Power, so when you enroll just no what to expect.
This class really makes you question how you view the world. He discusses topics that no one really talks about, so it really helps you grow as a person. The class was unbelievably easy, I basically looked up summaries on the books we had to study or read the first half, and got a 100 on every test.
Dr. Moore's lectures are always very engaging and interesting. He also goes over important information for tests. Because of his vocal and passionate character, it's easy to remember what he says. All tests are over the books you read. The books are interesting so you feel motivated to read, making it extremely easy to do well on tests.
Such an engaging man who is always ready to speak his mind. Can come off as a bit condescending to some, but thats merely if you have no back bone. Love this guy!!
very democratic
By far the most engaging professor at UT. His lectures are very eye opening. He has very strong opinions, but his goal is to make you comfortable with opinions you don't agree with. He is very caring and always has guest speakers come in with opportunities for internships and study abroad programs. The books he assigns are also very interesting.
Best Professor at UT hand down. Extremely engaging and deeply cares about your transition from High School into UT. You won't regret taking this class one bit. He addresses everyday topics that are very important and sometimes can be hard to understand for some people, but it makes the class so much more eye-opening.
If you read the books and take notes in class, you'll be fine. His lectures are engaging and thought-provoking, and they're definitely worth it. Also, don't be afraid to voice your opinion in class! The exams are essay based, and there are a few more basic short essays he announces in class, so if you are good at or enjoy writing, take this class.
Dr. Moore is a phenomenal prof. His lectures are in-depth and spark great dialogue. Totally recommend this class it was insightful, and I was excited to go every time. You do have to read the books assigned in class because most of the tests are based on them. Take notes for the lists he gives (usually one of those lists will show up on the test)
Dr. Moore was an amazing lecturer! It was a very eye opening course. However, at times he managed to get off topic. Hes very opinionated. Just make sure to take notes and read the required books for the exams or your grade wont be great. Your grade is entirely dependent on the TAs who grade your papers and exams.
Woke up everyday looking forward to attend his class. He cares about the success of all his students and WANTS everyone to participate in class discussions. His life advice is the best. Hes an insightful individual and I learned a lot! Tips: show up (lecture and discussion), read the books, and be open minded. Tests are over the books. Enjoy!
The best lecturer I've ever had. His class is all about engagement with material, and his exams are super easy as long as you study the notes (specifically the lists of things he gives you). I messed up the first exam completely by accident, but he offers some extra credit. He's super caring and understands students. I cannot recommend him more!!
Lectures are very entertaining, Moore is great. Came into the class thinking it would be too political but moore is reasonable. There are 3 essay exams, easy. Every Friday u have discussion with a small group if u get a bad TA then class might get tough. She didn't give instruction then graded harshly when it wasn't what she expected.
Moore is a good lecturer, and he gives has a perspective that most people have never seen before. He does get off topic and there will be times when you may not agree with him. Your grade is dependent on your TA but Moore doesn't specify what an A or a B is so that's actually a mystery. It's a class you'll actually want to attend, which says a lot.
I would take any class Leonard Moore has to offer! Hands down one of the greatest professors UT Austin has to offer.
Hands down this is the best class I've taken at UT. All the material is really engaging. Prof Moore is an excellent and passionate speaker who will make you question about several aspects in life. There are some essays, they are graded very easily because prof. Moore only wants to know how you think! Super inspiring. You should DEFINITELY take it!
Dr. Moore has amazing lessons to tell and not just about the books we have to read. He's not only a professor but an inspiration. I definitely recommend taking his class because he will make you look at life differently! Also, as long as you read and keep up with each book, you should easily pass the class.
Dr. Moore is a fantastic professor. I learned so much during his class, he opened my mind to viewing different perspectives. I would highly recommend this class to everyone. Easy A and lectures are very entertaining.
Dr. Moore is an amazing teacher and really opened my eyes. It doesn't matter what subject he is teaching you will get something out of it!! In this class, our grade was really based off our TA. I luckily had a TA that didn't grade hard so it was an easy A. If you really want to get something out of college, take Dr. Moore!!
What I admired most about Dr. Moore was how much he valued our opinions and views. He listened to our thoughts on his talking points and it was inspiring to see the civil debates between him and others. You will not pass the exams without the textbooks, but through all the assigned readings, I left this class much more politically engaged. Take it
Very knowledgeable on various topics, good lecturer, sometimes self-conceited and arrogant but I loved it and to hear his point of view every time... except when he enters class assuming everyone is stupid bc they're a freshman and they don't know anything about UT resources. Why do you think we came to UT? lecture on society, not study abroad.
Dr. Moore is a good lecturer, but his class was a little bit of a mess. I got the same grade on all my papers (96) but no feedback really, making me wonder if anyone ever read my papers... Go to your discussions because that's where you'll find out what's on the tests. They're usually in class essays but one was take home. Easy A though.
One of the best professors at UT. Lectures were engaging and he challenges your world view.
Dr. Moore's lectures were very engaging and entertaining!!! Loved his class, one of the easiest and easy going professors. I had an amazing TA!! Best class ever!
Absolutely loved his class. 100% recommend for anyone's UGS class, or just to take as an elective.
One of the best classes I have taken. You learn a lot and it makes you think more. Really interesting topic. Really recommend it.
Great lectures, really unique class, do the readings (they're good)
DR. Moore is one of the best professors I've had. I'm so lucky for having the privilege to take his class. He's hilarious and the lectures were amazing. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that we had to read 4 books.
Very easy and super fun UGS. Take if you can! Dr. Moore has a very bold personality; you have to have an open mind in this class. Grades were based on short answer tests about the books we read (4 books4 exams). No final! Attendance not taken in lecture, not really necessary to go to. I went because what he talked about was interesting!
Dr. Moore has amazing lectures and wants his students to succeed. His class was a little disorganized and there were many communication issues. The tests were essay tests based on notes and the textbooks. Does not post notes online. Overall a good class if you try hard, read the books, and take good notes.
Loved this class. Lectures included a lot of class participation but the topics were always engaging and tough. The readings are interesting narratives unlike standard textbooks. Only complaint is that he doesn't post to Canvas at all so have a friend to catch you up if you miss class.
Dr. Moore is great! His lectures will grab your attention on the very first day of class. His topics can get controversial, but it is enlightening and inspirational to see different perspectives. There are 4 written exams throughout the semester based on the assigned books that tie into his lectures.
I took Race in the Age of Trump. Lectures are optional and do not help too much on the easy essays, but they are interesting and worth your time (for the most part). You learn a lot about politics and gain new perspectives on social issues. However, there is a very strong liberal bias, so if you do not want that, maybe this class isn't for you.
Dr. Moore is absolutely amazing! I've never been so truly invested in the course material and interested in a lecture before. Class was always live, he really makes the students participate and speak up. Graded only by 3 tests (all in essay format) and a paper. Super easy A, but that doesn't make the class any less engaging. Would 10/10 recommend!
Best professor in the school
Professor Moore is an incredible lecturer and taught me so much about important topics. However, he did leave us very unprepared for the exams. All four exams were comprised of essays and short answers. Depending on who your TA is you will either ace them all or do poorly. Professor Moore can be very hard to reach outside of class
Professor Moore is an absolute gem! The best thing about the class is definitely the lectures; they're so insightful and I always leave that class learning more. The workload is definitely manageable. There's two tests which are over the books you have to read and his lectures. The tests are essay-based so grades vary by TA (not by a lot).
Exams just rely on the reading and some (like barely any) evidence from lectures. People stopped showing up to lectures at the end. Just buy the audiobooks and you should be fine. Moore's entertaining. Only complaint is that this is a watered-down class: no philosophical studies; non-black POC were barely talked about; no in-depth look @ policies.
Honestly one of the best courses you'll take at UT. Super easy depending on your TA but everything is super interesting. Sometimes you can get annoyed when he tries to fight your opinion but he just wants you to have facts to back it up. You don't have to go to lectures but they are worth it.
I had Professor Moore for Cultural Intelligence in the Age of Trump and he is an excellent professor in all the ways possible. He really cares about his students (he cried once due to the passion). His lectures are super interesting. Friday discussions are pretty cool (Enrique was a super TA). The books we read were super engaging. Amazing class!!!
Dr. Moore is a really inspiring lecturer, and the class work is not hard. You do have to read a few books, which are actually quite interesting. There are also four simple projects graded by the TAs. Easy A.
literally the best UGS class, it is discussion-based so be prepared to talk about controversial things. I really enjoyed waking up and listening to the TA's and Professors talk, I just wish I can leave class with a better understanding of people and different cultures like I was expecting. But there are lots of off-topic moments
The online formatting is absolutely horrible as lectures are just him talking and scarcely checking the chat for student input. The lectures are sometimes incredibly amazing and insightful while other times they're rants about hip-hop. Grading isn't too bad- 4 non-specific projects with no rubrics and grade heavily dependent on non-responsive TAs.
I love and respect Dr. Moore's passion for the class, but the TA grading is very annoying. New online format: 4random projects(worth 25% each)No rubric. He talks about how we shouldn't be worried about our grades and have fun w/ projects but then the TAs grade projects very harsh on some random rubric they create w/o telling us and give no feedback
SO EASY. I took it web-based and he preaches the importance of knowledge over simply stressing your grade. Dw, there's only 4 proj. and all are so easy (literally only take an hour or two online). NO lectures are mandatory and you can do all the projects without attending. It's your loss though bc he's amazing. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Dr. Moore was super nice. However, the constant projects and tough grading by the TAs knock down the amazing feeling of the class. You constantly have to worry about your grades. Everyone is super nice and accessible which made the class super interesting.
Since the class transitioned to 100% online, we got 4 projects instead of essays. Each project is worth 25% of your grade and he does not give you a rubric. Grading is done by TAs so your grades can vary. You have to read one book per project (they're doable). He also gives you extra credit opportunity once so just do it if you want a better grade!
Race In The Age of Trump was by far the best class I took this whole semester. Every student cooperated within the lectures and the TAs were amazing. Theres only 4 projects that can be done easily. Although, GRADING WILL DIFFER BY TA. Other then that, overall it was an amazing class and very interesting.
Race In The Age of Trump was an amazing class! if you ever have the chance to take his ugs course TAKE IT! always insightful and motivational. there were required readings & everyone liked them! only had four projects so each worth a lot but easy to manage! you have a TA meeting every Friday, and depending on them it can be an easy A or not
One of the most brilliant Professors I've had. Wish I could have taken this class irl. Curriculum consisted of 4 books (we only ended up reading 3) and 4 projects. Only complaint was that the TAs seemed to grade based on different criteria. However, the class was super interesting and the projects were fun too if you put in effort.
This was an amazing course. I always looked forward to Professor Moore's lectures. However, there are only four projects, worth 25% each, and the grading criteria is not clear as no rubric is provided. Also, depending on your TA, you may/may not receive more direction and be graded more harshly.
Overall Dr. Moore is a pretty entertaining lecturer. Outside of class he is extremely inaccessible and comes off as indifferent and apathetic to your class performance. The class grade consists of four projects. The TAs can be unreasonable with grading, so I suggest you send your TA the project ahead of time to receive feedback on ways to improve.
This class is probably MUCH better in person. Dr. Moore has great lectures, but the grading criteria was terribly inconsistent. Graded on 4 projects across many TA's with their own "rubrics".
It's a great class and you learn different perspectives. Grading consists of 4 projects which are so creative, not like writing usual papers. However, the grading criteria are not clear, and each TA grades the projects differently.
First day of class didn't specify that we would be in person or online beforehand. Has repeated the same stories it's only the 2nd week. Gave us a essay prompt for us to write and then made fun of a student for asking what format, "All you want is an A." No powerpoints or resources given. Multiple tangents every lecture. Good speaker, that's it.
He will bring you so many opportunities outside of mere classwork!! Any poor review given to him does not reflect the fact that he will do more for his students' future outside the university above all else. He is more than well-versed in the subjects he teaches, and all perspectives are always valued. Pay attention, read, be flexible. Easy A.
Dr. Moore is a great professor. His lectures are very insightful and comply changed the way I look at history today. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly recommend showing up to class. A couple book you have the read throughout the semester with a project/exam following each one.
Best teacher. Fun and interesting lectures. You don't have to attend every time but might as well. 4 mandatory books to read to complete 4 projects, each 25% of grade. All simple such as : outline an essay, identify themes of book, infographic, relating concepts in class, etc. One of my all time favorite classes.
Great lecturer, definitely went on tangents several times during class, but it added to the entertainment. Lectures didn't have much to do with the 4 creative projects we were graded off of. Not the most organized course but its easy enough to figure out. Definitely worth it just for the lectures.
Great lecturer and very entertaining class. We were assigned 4 books to read for our 4 grades (each worth 25%) and some were projects others were tests. You do have to read the books to do well in class.
Dr. Moore is by far the best lecturer I have had during my college experience. His passion and knowledge about the subject are clear. He is a great person and an even better teacher. His class was graded on 4 tests each worth 25% of your grade. Be ready for little to no guidance on these tests. They're easy if you read and go to lectures.
Dr. Moore is extremely passionate and his demeanor rubs off on his students. The classroom was engaged and we ended up learning so much about Black history as a result. His lectures are amazing and are equally full of entertainment and knowledge. All we had to do is read 4 books and take free-response tests over them. Best class ever!
Dr. Moore is the GOAT; He's wise and always spitting truth, He loves educating students, and truly cares about every student who comes into the room. The books he assigns are great, and really easy reads if you give yourself the time to read them. His lectures are easily the best I've ever been to and interacts with students like no other teacher.
Class is interesting, informative but cannot be balanced with other classes. Syllabus never followed. Students criticized for caring about grade. Project schedule not followed, due dates are a surprise, student must then choose whether to get project done or fulfill other classes and part-time jobs. Professor and TAs do not respond to emails.
Easy class. Dont need to read. Dont need to study. I just showed up everyday and got a 100. People stressed over this class for NO REASON. He literally is not trying to stress you out. He just wants to talk to you about black history whether or not u agree with him
I loved taking HIS317L with Dr. Moore. His lectures are insightful and unforgettable. He's also very funny. The course is a little disorganized but it's not a huge problem because the assignments aren't difficult. I honestly think that everyone should take a class with him at least once.
Dr. Moore has amazing lectures and is a great speaker, but the class is organized very poorly. Due dates are randomly shouted out at the end of class and can change, the syllabus is a joke and not followed whatsoever, TA's and Dr. Moore never respond to emails, and overall I felt really uncomfortable with reaching out and even asking questions.
I LOVE THIS CLASS! He encourages student debates and participation. He also allows you to look at history from a different perspective, so I learned a great deal in his class. There is not much homework in this class, but when there is a project it is not graded harshly at all! This class is an easy A and very exciting.
Dr. Moore was funny and his lectures were amazing, but that is about it. Your whole grade is dependent on 3-4 assignments and the TAs do not follow the same grading criteria so everyone ends up with different grades. He also does not follow the syllabus but his assignments are overall really easy.
he doesn't answer questions. disorganized, last-minute projects, TA's grade hard, dropped my GPA. HOWEVER, 100% worth it. only 3-4 projects, we didn't get our first one till midterms. you may read a book (likely an easy interesting read). attendance optional, but I didn't want to miss a single class, great lectures. EVERYONE should take his class.
the class is chill and easy or whatnot bit very disorganized, he doesn't answer his emails even when I check with the TAs first and they direct me to him. This course can just be flaky or wishy washy depending on how you stay in the loop cuz most information are word of mouth if you don't go to class. it barely used canvas fr
I love the guy a lot, but to say there is any structure to his class is almost impossible to say. The class is all about his lectures, but he does randomly assign papers and makes them due the next class. Overall vibe is that whatever he feels like making an assignment he will (although very sporadic). Super interesting class and learned a lot.
Dr. Moore is by far the best professor ever. Yes, the class is completely disorganized. But it is not hard to make a good grade. If you show up to his lectures and you engage and speak with him in class, you will get an A. He is very passionate about what he teaches and loves to debate controversial topics so going to class should not be an issue.
Dr. Moore is an incredible lecturer, making them engaging and fun to attend. However, his grading criteria is a little murky and is the reason why I got an A- instead of an A. While this class is great fun, be careful in how you write your essays.
Amazing lecturer, no structure to the class in the slightest. No grading criteria at all and the TAs graded completely differently based on how they were feeling that day. Random pointlessly long essays or "boardgame" projects with two days notice given by word of mouth for 25% of your grade. He has no idea how to make a syllabus or use canvas
One of the most insightful classes ever!! He's an amazing speaker, and really knows how to keep lectures interesting and engaging. However, the class itself is a little unorganized. We're 4 months into the semester and I have no clue how much various assignments and projects are worth. He just makes essays/exams up and announces it 2 days before
Amazing lectures, funny professor. The best class I've taken at UT by far.
Amazing lecturer but the most disorganized class I've taken at UT. It's currently Thanksgiving break and we have 3 grades in the grade book, 2 of which were participation. He doesn't give you much time to prepare for tests yet grades hard. Love the professor but I need organized classes where I know when my tests will be and what they'll be about.
Zero planning, dude literally took a girls notes up two days before the final to figure out what he taught us and gave us the topics for the exam off of that. Nonexistent syllabus never uses technology. Great lecturer
Professor Moore is an amazing lecturer. The topic and class itself were one of the most interesting that I have ever attended at UT. However, HE IS EXTREMELY disorganized. No syllabus, no telling the weight of the assignments, no communication. By far the worst class I have taken in terms of organization, and it makes a HUGE difference.
I am telling you, if you are an organized person like me who really cares about grades and am shooting for that 4.0, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Dr Moore is extremely unorganized- he changed the syllabus 3 weeks before the semester ended, he doesn't provide rubrics to his assignments but then the assignments are graded strictly. There is no EC either.
Super caring professor, asked if everyone had a place to go for thanksgiving and offered up his home. Often disorganized, tests aren't on a syllabus but decided on a whim. A random paper could pop up suddenly. Engaging lecturer but is questionable at times. One included: "why do all Asians take Stem courses? They don't need to know the language!"
I took Black Southerners during Jim Crow U.S. history. Dr. Moore has very entertaining lectures and is very passionate. We had 3 exams. 2 group projects and 1 essay, several smaller essays as hw. Go to lectures even though attendance isn't taken, everything on the exams is from lecture. Grade depends on your TA, I got lucky, others did not.
Don't take this class if you're want an easy A. Do take this class if you want to learn something. Amazing lectures & a great orator. Your grade is made up of very few things, 3 exams & 2 papers, so it takes work to get an A but it's doable. Dr. Moore may be disorganized but his class will challenge the way you think & how you approach life.
His lectures are AMAZING you learn so much not only about the course but about a lot of things in life, I didn't read any of the books and still got an A+ in the course, highly recommend this prof
Great professor. Disorganized and due dates are thrown out but it's not unmanageable. He's super personable and friendly. Would take it again 100%
nice lectures, but thats it. Professor is condescending, never replies to emails, extremely disorganized (we did not know about exams until a day or two before), extremely heavy assignments for a general history class (one was 13 pages long and another was 8) with only a few days given to complete. Take with Mintz, Ozanne, or Brands, STAY AWAY!
Dr. Moore a good professor who's very disorganized. His lectures are interesting and interactive, but he does tend to spend lecture time on tangents unrelated to class. Class attendance isn't mandatory but it might as well be because all assignments are given in class with no warning with unclear grading criteria.
TAs can be tough graders. Exams can be a little loosely structured and random. Lectures are life-changing and thought provoking. Very fun class. Keep up with any book readings so you don't have to do them last minute. I would recommend taking it because you will have a good time, but don't procrastinate and come to lectures.
This class was the most disorganized class that I have ever taken. There was no syllabus and no rubric for any assignment. Dr. Moore was very repetitive in his lectures and would randomly give us paper to write in class. If you like structure and things graded on time do not take this class!!
Professor Moore is an amazing lecturer, but very disorganized. I would not recommend this class if you just want an easy A. This class is definitely more difficult than some of the reviews make it out to be. This is because grades are heavily dependent on your TA. I wasn't so lucky and got a harsh grader who did not respond to emails/messages.
favorite class ever. funny and amazing lecturer. disorganized, but in a good way bc our exams were changed to take home and easy. You don't have to read the books. You should to go to lectures because midterms are based on class notes. there were 2 one page papers that were basically completion grades and 2 take-home midterm exams.
Dr. Moore's lectures were hilarious and engaging. There were never any assignments aside from the 2 midterms that he let us do at home and 1 final. Your grade is very dependent on these, but they were relatively easy assignments based on books. He assigns a lot of books, but none are necessary to read aside from the one the final is based on.
Doc is the best educator I've ever had. You'll gain more in an hour with him than in a semester with another professor. He is a wise, wise man. He's intentionally ambiguous about the exams so you have to navigate uncertainty. Take this class and your life will be changed. I'm taking another one of his classes this semester because it was so good.
Really great class; Prof. Moore is an entertaining lecturer and most of the info isn't really stuff that you'll be tested on (just his thoughts on life). I skipped a lot of class but basically if you can write essays you'll get a good grade. Only downside was I had to read like 3 books in a night because I procrastinated :(
Felt like a waste of a class. Took the course in hopes of gaining an in depth learning and understanding of black history but the material was very surface level and the class was extremely disorganized. Assignments felt like busy work and I did not feel like I was genuinely learning. No rubric for anything and the tests were lengthy.
I genuinely do respect Dr. Moore as a professor and especially a lecturer, but as somebody who has only one grade in Canvas with only a month left of the semester left, I have to say that I am thoroughly disappointed with how this class is structured. Please pay heed to the reviews here that note the poor organization and lack of communication.
I can't recommend him enough. He changed my outlook on the world, and he really opens your eyes. His lectures are optional but everyone comes because of how good they are. He keeps you engaged so you're never bored. Only issue is that your grade is heavily determined by TA, but if you talk to them then they are very lenient.
His lectures were simply the best lectures period. Even if History isn't your thing, he makes his lectures more than just History. He teaches amazingly, he's inspirational, and he's funny. He's probably the best professor at UT. His class is really easy too, he does not care about grades, so he makes it really easy, so you can learn stress-free.
If you take one class at UT, make it this one. Dr. Moore is easily one of the best speakers and professors I've ever had. Every class was engaging and interesting. I cannot recommend this class enough, TAKE IT.
While Dr. Moore is an amazing lecturer, the class is structured terribly. A week before finals, and I still only have one exam in the grade book despite 2 other projects and another exam. The TAs are inaccessible and will grade wildly differently from each other. Don't be fooled by the ratings, there are much better options out there.
Everyone at UT should take a class from Moore in my opinion- his lectures are amazing and he's not afraid to have touchy conversations about the things he finds important. There are very few things the class is graded by but are worth it and are easy enough if you go to class and take notes. Good to make friends in the class in case you miss one.
Prof. Moore is an outstanding lecturer... and and a terrible professor. He excels at public speaking and is very knowledgeable about black history, but has little or no regard for class organization, grades, assignments, or exams. Exam dates, materials, and format are not discussed. Come watch his lectures but take a different course.
Dr. Moore is an amazing lecturer. He somehow facilitates student involvement in giant classes and can be genuinely inspirational. He fosters an inclusive environment for all viewpoints (although he pokes fun at everyone). The only issue I've found with his class is his poor organization (decides last second on test date/format/etc.) and few grades.
Although Dr. Moore gave a wonderful lecture, it was not worth it for the the exams and grades. Exams and other assignments were never announced more than a week, sometimes less, in advance. Communication was woefully bad leading to confusion amongst students as to expectations which led to bad grades. Do not take this course it is not worth it.
Its already finals weeks and out of all the assignments that we have done, only 1/5 of them have been graded. The class is really disorganized with TAs and the professor having different grading criteria and telling us contradictory things. Lectures are ok, he is engaging with students but I feel like I didn't learn much. Grade depends on TA.
Dr. Moore is a wonderful professor, and I have learned a lot! However, don't take this class if you are someone who wants some organization, and things graded on time. (I only have one grade in the class rn). The lectures were insightful tho!!
Dr. Moore is a fantastic lecturer. He is very passionate, and we had great discussions in class. That said, the class is VERY disorganized. He doesn't decide on due dates until right beforehand and it takes forever to get grades back. If you are willing to deal with that, then I'd take this class because the lectures are worth it imo.
Dr.Moore does a great job teaching Black History and connecting it to a wide range of modern-day topics!Super important class worth listening to.However, there's no set schedule so he decides a week or so before an exam/paper.There's little guidelines, which is fine except the TAs grade for specific things that are not mentioned in instructions
The lectures are actually so enjoyable, I'm not a person to frequently attend class lol but I made sure I went to every single one in this course. The only issue I had in this course was the time it took for grades to come back, I still only have a grade from our 1st assignment and grades are due in 2 days. You never really know your grade.
He is very passionate about what he teaches, which makes lectures so enjoyable, truly one of a kind professor. His tests are pretty difficult and tentative, but you learn a lot of valuable information about black history that it changes your perspective of life. 100% recommend!
The class is based on 3 exams comprising of 90% of your grade and 2 assignments comprising of 10%. The first exam for the Spring 2023 semester was in person and graded strictly, so it was unclear if anyone would get A's in the class. The next two exams were practically free A's if you demonstrated effort. Great lectures filled with excitement too.
Best lecturer I've had at UT. Has a lot of experience & truly cares about students. Attendance not mandatory, but you will want to come because of his great dialogue. The class is 90% tests. Doesn't give the exact format before (which is a bit disorganized), but he tells you before the test the topics in questions. Probably the best history at UT.
Dr. Moore is such an impactful professor with dynamic and thought provoking lectures! Expect no multiple choice evaluation, and to have to share your reflections and interpretations of lectures in assignments (writing heavy). No textbooks, but some reading assignments from books. Take his class, but be ready to have to put your mind to work!
This is hands down my favorite class I have taken, ever. I have never learned so much in a semester. Dr. Moore is amazing, extremely passionate about what he teaches, and real. There are assigned books, but they are very interesting. I seriously think the world would be a better place if everyone took this course. Do it if you have the opportunity!
I was super stoked to take this class because Dr. Moore is a great lecturer. However, your entire grade is made up of 3 exams, which my TA graded super harshly. Really disappointing because this is a super interesting class. Sad to say it, but I would advise you to avoid this class if you care about your GPA.
Be aware of a few things. The assignments, tests, and grading can be very unclear, and your grade may heavily depend on the TA. Lectures aren't focused, and get very sidetracked. Anybody can speak up and debate, but he is firm on his beliefs. Dr. Moore is a very kind but forward person. Definitely one of the most engaging lectures you'll go to.
TAKE COLLEGE FOOTBALL FOR YOUR UGS COURSE!! Such a great speaker and his class is so entertaining, you never know what to expect. I have learned a lot and it is an easy A if you just attend class.
Dr.Moore was the best professor I have had. His lectures were engaging and insightful. He is really passionate about what he teaches and that can be seen through class. The tests were easy as long as you knew your stuff and he told you exactly what was on it. I loved this class and definitely recommend taking College Football as your UGS!
Don't take college football if you want to learn about college football. The class title is bait entirely, and it's a black history class primarily. He is pretty funny, however there are only 2 exams and one project and no chance for extra credit. If you mess up on one test, you are completely cooked.
4-5 required books for exams. Grade is solely based off of three exams that aren't difficult to get an A on if you pay attention in his lectures and read the parts of the books required for the exam. Overall, great professor, great lectures, easy grade if you try.
Dr. Moore is a very charismatic professor and knows his stuff. His lectures are attentive and interest you in the class(in this case college football). Although he makes the class interesting, the class is poorly organized, and the syllabus isn't set from the start, so he usually announces tests/projects right beforehand.
Great guy, okay professor. I see why people love him and I respect him very much but the grading system sucks and lectures tend to get extremely sidetracked. Sometimes would feel like a waste of time when we would spend 30 minutes discussing short men vs. fat women or other student's relationships. I'd love to see him do a stand-up show tho!
Dr. Moore's lectures were not like any other at UT, students in class would typically get into debates and talk about real modern-day topics. You could tell he was passionate about the subject in his voice, although, for a 3-hour lecture, he often let us out early and kept our attention. He is disorganized though and your grade is just 3 exams.
Two tests over content that was not specified beforehand, grade is entirely up to TA. Professor and TA are disconnected sometimes. Professor is very random with grading too.
Dr. Moore almost always has insightful lectures, but there's basically no organization ever and the lecture content is just a steady stream of whatever pops into his brain coming out of his mouth. Very few grades, and a big disconnect with the TAs. Great guy, decent professor. Would absolutely recommend for freshmen, great to expand perspective.
10/10 I will forever love Leonard moore. I have always struggled with history classes and retaining the information but dr. moore just has such an amazing teaching style, I loved this class so much, I will say the hardest part about it is that its just an exam class, no buffer grades, and the exams are all essays, it's not hard tho. go to class
Dr. Moore is an amazing professor and I really enjoyed listening to him, but the syllabus is unorganized and so is the class. Tests and projects are announced the week before, and grading all depends on TAs. Overall he is a great person but the class is really just all over the place.
Class was easy and interesting at times, but lectures, syllabus, and assignments were VERY disorganized. I got a 65 on a project that had no rubric, and he graded it mainly by appearance. Test grades depend on TA. Dr. Moore doesn't change grades or give extra credit. Graded on 4 simple but heavily weighted assignments, so put effort into them.
Moore is a great lecturer but the class itself is super disorganized. Never went through the syllabus or expectations, the TA didn't even know what graded assignments we would have 1 month into the course. Ended up dropping the class because of a random test we had. Grading depends on TA. Unnecessarily stressful for a UGS.
Loved this class! Dr. Moore is an amazing lecturer and there was never a dull moment in his class. I will say your grade is dependent on your TA and I luckily was able to get a good TA. Overall I can't recommend him enough! This was a class I would feel bad for if I skipped!
Professor is more interesting and has a more engaging class than any I have taken at UT. Often says things that could be considered controversial but understands that exposure to different ideas than your own is a valuable part of your time in college. Read and study for the tests as the required readings are a big part of your grade on the tests.
I LOVE THIS MAN. I could not say enough good things about him and this class. I had him for UGS303 (College Football) as well, and I fell in love with the way he teaches. The TAs are amazing and pretty lenient graders. My last lecture, he spent the first 15 minutes calling on people to share one good thing from the past week. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Dr. Leonard Moore is the best professor there ever was. He incites healthy political debates among the members of the audience (the class is too big to be a class, it's more like a motivational speaker with a massive crowd amassed to watch him speak.) There are 3 exams, and they refuse to give out almost any As.
I admit he is an amazing lecturer but his class is super disorganized and your grades are entirely based on only 3 exams each worth around 30-35 percent. The tests are on paper sometimes you have to write big and medium essays on the tests and it sucks especially if English is not your first language and are struggling. I regret taking this class:(
Lectures were enlightening on a life-changing level! He's hilarious and sparked critical controversial conversations in the classroom. The experience of being in this class is invaluable. The class is based on 3 exams only, and the grading is entirely based on your TA and is extremely disorganized. MUST read and memorize lecture notes for exams.
Really interesting lecturer and class. Class is only graded by 3 exams but they are easy. I had a lot of respect for Dr. Moore until I went to his office hours to talk about a poor test grade and he laughed at me and told me I should worry about more important things. Turns out my TA forgot to grade a question and my score jumped 20 pts.
Decent enough professor, very knowledgeable and an A is easy if you put forth a little bit of effort. However, he is a loud lecturer and can get heated over the tiniest thing. Class title is deceptive, topics are focused on black history rather than the sport itself. Books are a waste of money, never assigned a single one (he wrote one himself)
Most entertaining and interesting lecturer I've ever had. When school was canceled due to weather, I was mad bc I couldn't go to his class. Content is eye opening and makes you better as a person. Major downside is his organization and grading. Going into the last week of school, we only had one grade in the books. Final grade based on 3 papers.
Dr. Moore, an engaging lecturer, lacks organization. Despite his humor, he's unprepared, unsure about tests, and deviates from the syllabus. TAs grade harshly, making the learning experience challenging. I would tell students not to take his class as he only took 3 grades this year making it extremely hard to get an A if you failed before.
Dr. Moore was a good professor in the beginning, giving quality lectures however later in the semester he felt more like a motivational speaker. He literally dedicated one day in class talking about how we need to get a degree in liberal arts to pursue a geniune passion. He easily gets distracted and his TAs grade difficult and give no help.
Dr. Moore seems like a really nice person, but his class was sooo disorganized that it was really frustrating. It felt like he was winging it in class all the time, and we did not stick to the syllabus at all. Grading felt subjective at times, and the TA graded really harshly on the 1 exam we had all semester. I'd recommend taking a different UGS
Even though this class was very disorganized, he is an extremely funny and great professor. Most of the time, you have to come to the lectures to know what's going on because it is not accessible online. If you actually just put effort into the assignments, you will get an A. He is enjoyable to listen to and is very caring to his students too.
Attendance for lectures was not mandatory; however, you should attend them since he doesn't record or post notes. The class was VERY UNORGANIZED and deviated from the syllabus a lot. There were only 3 grades: an exam, a group project, and a final essay, so if you do badly on one, there really isn't a recovery. I recommend taking a different UGS.
Great lecturer and extremely hilarious but grades are determined by a test, a paper and a group project so if you fail one then don't expect to get an A. There are no slides or lecture recordings so if you miss class then that's that. Loves his student athletes for some reason?
Great lecturer and encourages everyone to form their own opinions and beliefs. The topic was very interesting as well and I was exposed to new perspectives that I have never considered before. Don't take this if you care a lot about grades, because you won't know what you have until the end.
His classes are very very unorganized. He does not posts slides/notes online and the lectures are all over the place. The essays are spontaneous. Although he is very passionate and funny, I would not recommend.
Classes are slightly disorganized but an easy class if you at least try. There aren't textbook but sometimes required readings for midterms. Midterms were writing based and heavily based on his lectures. Lectures aren't recorded so make sure you have a friend that you can the notes from, though the TA usually uploads their notes before midterms.
Dr. Moore is the best
Great guy with very interesting lectures (College football UGS), but the class is extremely disorganized with an exam paper, group project, and final paper. If you mess up on one getting an A is out of the question (Harsh grading TAs can make it worse). Interesting class for sure but take a different UGS if you're worried about your GPA.
BEST PROF AT UT!! The class is so engaging and fun! If you need a history credit TAKE THIS CLASS. The only grades you have are 3 really easy exams that are free-response based. The grading was super lenient! As long as you show up to lecture and pay some attention you will get an A!
I really enjoyed Dr. Moore's lectures, sometimes was bummed when class was over which has never happened before. I will say though that the syllabus is a bit all over the place and test formats were spontaneous and not consistent. However, if you go to class and pay attention these tests are very accessible.
Im here to provide a bit of a different perspective. Yes Dr Moore is a great lecturer and a very passionate person. However its very unorganized, and he doesn't seem to respect the fact that we're students first, here to get a degree. I had a harsh TA and if you get one as well its easy to get a low grade due to low assignments, only 3 tests in all
Very entertaining. Very funny. Very bad at teaching. Exam dates and due dates in the syllabus? Forget about them. He changed what was an hour-long in class exam to a 12 page paper with one day of notice in the middle of midterms. Shows up late every day. Consistently off-topic. Feels like he's winging most lectures. But, he is funny.
Leonard Moore is an interesting and engaging lecturer. I attended almost every single lecture even though attendance was not mandatory. People on here complain about him being disorganized but it is never unmanageable, and usually it is just as a benefit for the class. ex. him changing the due date of a test to later etc. etc. super easy class.
He's awesome and very chill. He wants to teach you about life more than his own class and goes with the flow on grades (only 3 grades the whole semester, test, group project, essay). For people who worry about their grades this class could be stressful, but for people want to learn and have fun, this is the UGS to take.
Dr. Moore is an amazing and hilarious professor. The tests are very easy and so are the short writing assignments which there are very few of. I never skipped a lecture because he is so funny but also teaches about very important yet overlooked parts of american history. Will be one of the best professors you have at UT take this class!
Extremely engaging class and cool professor. Sometimes he says very controversial things, but I think that should be normalized. He is very passionate about the content, and I learned a lot. Graded on 4 reflection papers and 4 writing exams.
I absolutely love this man, you can see that he's extremely passionate about what he teaches AND success of his students. I've learned so much in this class, both about Black history and myself as a student. Exams are easy and straightforward, I got a great TA so the grading wasn't harsh at all (A+ on all exams). I couldn't recommend Moore enough
He is a super interesting lecturer, attendance isn't taken but you still won't want to skip this class. notes and lectures are not posted anywhere so if you skip try to get notes from a friend. this class is pretty disorganized, don't expect the syllabus to be accurate all exams are written with VERY generous grading, I bombed and got a 95
Professor Moore is a captivating lecturer with a passion for the subject. While the class can be disorganized at times, the generous grading and engaging discussions make it a worthwhile experience. Unstuckstudy AI was a helpful tool for studying the material.
Not a dull moment in this guy's class.
The funniest, most interesting professor I have taken by far. Take History of College FB while you are at UT and you will never forget that class.
Very eye-opening class. No homework, lectures once a week and last 1.5-2 hours (not 3). Amazing and engaging lecturer, everyone at UT needs to take a class with him. As long as you take the time to go and pay attention in class, you will be fine exam-wise. 3 exams (written, not too difficult if u review notes) and one project (very easy).
I could say a million things about Dr. Moore he's 100% the best lecturer ever. The kinda teacher that you wanna take every class with even if it doesn't apply to your major. Take him and you won't regret it
I stopped going to lectures after getting overwhelmed with other exams, but the real issue is poor communication. The TAs never know what's on the test because Dr. Moore doesn't tell them. The material is fine, but the exams are just long essays. If you want an easy history class, avoid this one.
Best professor I have taken at UT. I would recommend this class to anyone just because of how engaging he is, but it is also great for an easier history credit. Grade is based on three exams and one easier project. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, which are interesting, and somewhat read the books, you will be fine in the class.
Awesome Guy. Cares alot about students. Only complaint is there is no notes or slides on canvas so going to lectures and taking notes is essential for getting a good grade. Exams are graded very easily.
He often goes on long, unrelated tangents during lectures. Lecture slides and recordings aren't posted so you have to go to class or get notes from a friend. Only graded by 3 tests (all essay questions) and a final project. The TAs and Dr Moore did not communicate w/each other well imo. Not a super hard class, but so disorganized
He is a really funny guy so lectures are engaging. I wouldn't skip this class. It is supposed to be 3 hours once a week, but he usually let us go after max 2 hours. I will say that the exams were a lot of writing sometimes, but they are on exactly what he teaches. The only work the class requires is studying for exams and doing the project.
Dr. Moore was amazing! So passionate about the subject and lectures were always entertaining. I genuinely looked forward to going to this class. Overall easy but depends on how harshly your TA grades. Material is not accessible outside of class either. Tests are very writing-heavy but manageable if you know the content.
Respected and well-connected, but a nightmare to contact. Students and TAs are left in the dark about grading, exams, and projects until the last minute. While lectures are interesting, they often veer into irrelevant tangents. The exams are easy, but the total lack of organization and communication causes unnecessary, high-level stress.
Class is a stand up comedy routine. So entertaining and so funny. You gotta go to class and take notes, or have a friend who does. He tells you exactly what the exam is on. Exam will be handwritten and your hand will cramp worse than it has ever cramped before. Go to class, sit with a friend, mess around for 2hrs a week, you'll finish with an A.
Dr. Moore gives incredible lectures that made me look forward to attending class. We were graded on 3 exams and 1 interview project, all of which required a lot of writing. As long as you have a semi-solid grasp of the material, this class will be a breeze for you. I only studied the day of the exams and received As and Bs. I strongly recommend.
