Does not come prepared to class. Possibly One of the worst instructional professors in the entire school. He is absent 57% of the time - leaving the lectures to be taught by teacher assistants. On the other hand, His test are taken from the text book.
Nice guy, BAD professor
His class is a joke. He does not teach anything. All tests are open book, open solutions and notes and his test questions come straight from the book. Easy A.
I dont know why people dont like him, but he is the best prof i have ever seen. All Prof should be like him. he ispires me.
I've never seen a lazier professor. He simply does not care about the students.
EE majors please choose another Prof. Other majors, no brainer, easy A.
never on time, not teach anything
He is very lazy and always talk about money. When you ask him questions he tells you you need some kinda outside help cause it cant be any simpler. Is always late and doesn't teach in any order.
He is always late or absent. He never teaches and makes weird analogies to money and aliens. He leaves the class to talk on his phone. If you want to teach yourself the entire course take the class otherwise stear clear from him and his toupee. The majority of the class only attended for exams.
just take him and do study by your own. do the problems from the book (after every chapter), you will see the same diagram on the final means easy A.
Great prof.Very clear and decent grading.
Seriously, this guy should not be teaching! Always LATE, misses half of the classes, sends his TA most of the time, insults you when you ask a question, he is just too lazy. What upsets you is that he can teach, he knows his stuff, but he is just inappropriate teaching material.
Like everyone else said, he's rarely there, doesn't bother to teach, really puts zero effort into the class. If you can take someone else, by all means do it. If you do take him, make sure you get a solution manual from somewhere, otherwise you're going to be completely on your own.
If you want clarity and fair grading take his class.
You learned a lot from his lectures.
You learn in his class. The only problem the prof. aims to help everybody in class and sometimes its very boring.
I like the class very much.
His tests are not hard, its hard to understand him because he has a very heavy accent, however, he tries to help a lot and wants everybody to learn. Take him if you are committed to study by yourself.
His class is good even though you dont understand him very well because his accent.
register and get A... i wish he was my prof for all my classes, he gave an open book final and the questions were from the book, and we all had the solution manual to the book
I like the class very much.Prof is very helpful.
very nice guy but that doesn't help to learn the material avoid him. he knows a lot the only problem is that he doesn't know how to teach.
Easy to get A
He knows his stuff but its hard to understand him. He doesnt explain clearly. On the oou can get an easy A. All you have to do is study on your own..
Prof is very helpful.
He is very reasonable prof.
Great class
Very helpful.
He teaches things that are really unclear. Don't expect him to teach you circuits because he won't. You have to learn everything by yourself from the book. BUT if you have a dumb class he gives easier exams, and easier final which is 70% of grade. There is also a big curve 75-80 = A. Just focus on final, and you have shot at an A. take him.
Worst. Teacher. Ever.
I've learned a lot.He is very helpful.Speaks with accent but very clear.
one of the best I had at CCNY.
O man, don't take him. He will give you a easy A, But it will screw you over when you take the more advance circuit courses. He comes in LATE and dosen't Teach.
Basically self study. Do the problems on your own. Word of warning the TA grades the test and you need to make sure he grades your exams correctly. Otherwise straight forward class with no surprises. Easy A
It's like he is not even there. You have to study by yourself. very lazy and does not like teaching. Exams are ok and not that hard but remember you have to study the material yourself so it might be a little challenging.
Very decent and helpful prof
Don't take him! You need to study everything yourself, he doesn't give homework, qizzes, nothing! But easy exams so if you've taken this class before or happen to have an understanding of circuits it should be easy for you.
He wants you to understand the basic concepts behind each chapter. If you know how to apply KCL and KVL, then you should be fine. Watch out for amplifiers and the last two chapters. His TA grades all the papers. He gives lots of partial credit if you redraw the circuits. All the test questions comes directly from the textbook.
One of the worst Professors I've had. Frequently late or absent, and displayed little desire to teach.
He can not teach at all. You need to study the material on your own. Attendance is not mandatory. He only gives you two exams and a final. For his exams make sure you solve a lot of problems in the text book. Overall it is a pretty easy class.
Honestly you don't learn a thing from him. You have to rely totally on the textbook to learn this stuff. The only good thing is that his TA comes in frequently to do a lesson or a review before the tests and basically gives you a round-about idea of what questions will be asked. Overall the class material isn't that hard to understand though.
Horrible attitude, has no idea how to teach, shows up 20 minutes late to each lecture and runs out the door at the end of class. It will be up to you to learn the material on your own. Obviously has no desire to teach, and you will be much better off with another professor. Do not take him!
Disgustingly terrible teacher. His TA does all the grading and testing. He gives a TON of partial credit. As long as you do some studying on your own and attend the review sessions, the course is pretty much a free A.
learn on your own!!! lectures are useless. I NEVER attended class except for review sessions and exams. easiest A of my life
He's famous for his pocket examples. If u take him you will know what i am talking about
His lectures are useless and you're better off learning by yourself from the textbook. His exam questions are based on the textbook end of chapter questions and are easy. Overall the class is easy if you just read the textbook and learn on your own.
Do not listen to anything people say about this professor. He is a great teacher, and goes out of his way to present the material even clearer than it already is. The course material is very easy and he does not expect any homework. There are 2 exams and a final, the final is tougher and counts for 60-70% of grade (so don't mess up)
This professor is not at all helpful. Barely teaches anything properly. Has two exams and one final. Exams are hard, but the TA curves a lot. Easy A, but wont learn anything.
Horrible professor. Can't reach for his life. You need to self study from the textbook in order to understand the material.
this guy does not know how to teach it is much better to study the textbook instead of going to the lecture the exams can be simple if you most of the problems from the textbook
Self study all day. He only teaches his left and right pocket for the whole semester.
just horrible
Unfortunately everything everyone says about him is true. Always 20 minutes late to class and leaves 20 minutes early. At times he seemed as if he was inebriated. TA grades all the tests which are not difficult and he will curve. If your an EE major take someone else. The fact that someone like this is allowed to teach is appalling.
I never thought about my pockets until I took this class. Every time I take out my wallet, I remember Roytman's examples. He might be more qualified to teach economics but definitely not electrical circuits. Pocket examples make circuits more confusing to understand. Please stop using pocket examples and teach properly. Thank you!
The class was easy until the final. I got a 50/50 on both the first 2 tests but the final killed me. I asked the TA after class and he said its because the final was on the last day of finals week. Dude, I was studying for other tests the other days. But like everyone else said, tests are easy, lectures are useless. Prepare for the final.
This class is like doing a puzzle without being given the inside pieces. He skirts around the topics and doesn't do well explaining any examples. Comes 20 minutes late, leaves 20 minutes early, and even on the final, we started 20 minutes late. Tests are difficult if you do not study/have no clue whats going on, but the curve is legendary
You don't need to show up to get an A. Make sure u study for the final its 70% of your grade and the questons from the text book. Old finals are online but they do not help.
If you feel you can pass a class solely using a textbook and doing practice problems, this is the professor for you. Try to do every type of problem in the book. No point in attending lectures as they are basically useless. Try to do well on the midterms but prepare extra for the final, worth 70% of your grade. Partial credit is generously given.
Self-studying. That's what the class is. Get the book, do all the problems from the end of each chapter (literally all of them), he will provide in the syllabus which sections to practice. The material is easy, but you gotta solve the problems in order to pass. Lots of partial credit and don't even bother to show up for the lectures.
We have two midterms (each one is 15% ) and final is 70%. Get ready to read and solve all problems in the textbook. Most exam questions come from the textbook. Make sure you know when the TA comes. He is the one do the review.
He always gets to class 20 minutes late, and leave 10-15 minutes before class ends. I will summarize all his lecture in one sentence: "If you have $5 in your left pocket, and $10 in your right pocket, what is the voltage and current?" - Congratz you have earned the credits for this course. Avoid if possible, or just self-learn the material.
After I shows up in his class. You will ask yourself a a question in your mind like: Am I really in College?
Going to class is completely optional. Get the midterm dates. Know the general chapter they're on. Proceed to do every homework problem in the book. He's actually a funny guy, if you can bear the accent. His teaching and examples and handwriting leave much to be desired, but good intent. Don't rely on it. Rely on the textbook, 100% of the time.
An exercise in studying alone. Find someone who has older tests and study from them. It'll be the easiest A of your life.
Professor Roytman is the worst professor. He barely teaches the material of the course. It is all up to the student to study themselves in order to pass class. The TA comes prepares you for the test. The tests are hard because prof roytman barely taught any of the quenstions. He says "You understand You understand??" with heavy russian accent.
I honestly thought he was trolling us the first few classes. I figured there was a hidden camera somewhere. Nope. He's just the worst professor you'll ever have in your life. Kim Kardashian could do a better job. Skip class, get old exams, skim the textbook.
You will have a great time if you are a phd in Electrical Eng. He never stayed full time, comes up to the board solves two exercises and leaves, never really explained anything. Every class ended the same way, everyone looking lost as hell as he left in 20/25 mins. Final is worth 70% of the grade. He isn't a bad guy, but he is not a good professor.
insane curve. Honestly just try your best. Got 30/50s on each exam including the final and got a B
Does not explain anything. Has such a thick accent that you can't understand him even when you ask him questions. If you are in EE, DO NOT take this class... You won't learn a thing. Only good thing about this class was the crazy curve. I barely passed my exams and ended with a B+
IF YOUR AN EE MAJOR OR COMP ENGR I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO TAKE ROYTMAN PLZ. HE WILL NOT HELP YOU. TAKE ANYONE ELSE AND YOU WILL LEARN. NOT WITH THIS DUDE PLZ SAVE URSELF FOR GODSAKE
Only real engineers understand the unequivocal power of checking your pockets for money to find the current, voltage, resistance, power, inductance, phasor, and energy of the circuit.
This was the most ridiculous class I have ever taken. Professor Roytman does not know how to teach, he always shows up 20 minutes late to class and leaves 20 minutes early, and no matter how many people are in class he'll 'teach'. You have to teach the material to yourself, if you need to know the material for future classes, don't take him.
Roytman is a professor who equips his students with the skills necessary to survive in the real world. With 25 min breaks before and after class, and questions to reinforce learning, Roytman teaches students the importance of self study among many other skills. Highly recommended for the CCNY EE Dept. experience.
Wonder man. If you want to learn engineering, then he is the person...
The best professor ever i love this class best part of my day
Bruh, do not listen to these 5 star ratings. This guy just comes to class and puts on a video lecture of himself from last semester. You literally cant ask questions or anything. I just mute the "lecture" and learn on my own. Luckily the exams are easy if you study using the online site for HW. Hes understanding but cant teach to save his life.
As others said, you will not learn well in this class, but it is not difficult.
You will barely learn from him. the class itself isnt very difficult and you can teach yourself entirely through the textbook and the online hw. the online hw is very helpful to learn the material on your own. he's a nice guy, has an accent, but cant teach very well (at least not online). you can still pass though. his exams are reasonable.
Don't expect to learn anything from him. Self teach yourself. Homework was online platform. He was very lenient in terms of due dates for those online homework assignments. If you're trying to get a professor to learn basic circuit analysis, get ready to self-teach yourself if you end up in his class. Easy A if it's just an elective for you.
Lenny is a great Electrical Circuits professor due to his ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and understandable way, his commitment to helping students succeed, and his contagious passion for the subject matter.
Professor Lenny Roytman is one whose teaching skills cannot be fully explained in a 350-word limit review. Any class that he teaches? Take it. You will not regret it. From analogies to make complex topics more simple... to the little jokes throughout his lecture, and to his beautiful handwriting... he is the best professor without a doubt.
Easily one of the best professor at CCNY. Extremely knowledgeable and goes through great depths to help students succeed. Extremely lenient and funny. We don't deserve a professor like prof Roytman he is too good.
Great professor.I would definitely take him again.
Took his class online. To be short, this guy is a joke. He played the recording of his past teaching, and in that video, he writes with his mouse so whatever he writes, its illegible. Don't expect anything from lecture. It's difficult, but study on your own. I asked him a question at the end, and he just ended the meeting.
Does nothing but playing some recordings and everything else is online. He doesn't care about students at all.
I suggest you try to get an epermit for ENGR 20400 so you can learn electrical circuits properly. messy handwriting on blackboard. I am happy I passed with B-. I would try epermit at BMCC.
Pick another professor or do an e-permit
Don't expect to learn anything, All he does is show pre-recorded lectures. When he tries to annotate the screen his writing is worse than chicken scratch. All problems in hw, quizzes, and exams are copied from the book; if you have to take the class, just download the teacher's copy of the book for answers.
