Lectures are VERY boring. Tests are all 75 multiple choice questions and very tedious. Try for Osmond. I hear he's easy.
He is a very nice man who knows economics. You do have to work at his class, but if you need help he would be more than happy to assist you. I learned alot in this class and found it interesting.
One of the most helpful professors I have had...He is a very nice person and has a genuine interest in teaching. I think he really wants students to learn and do well in his class...like all other college courses...you have to do a little work.
I didn't get credit for this class when I transfered, but I'm glad I had a good teacher the first time. He is extremely dry and random, and not a very good teacher. Good luck trying to make it through the lectures.
Good teacher, but read the book if you want to understand his multiple choice tests. He gives a nice curve at the beginning of the class so you don't have to beat your head against the wall to get a good grade. A fair amount of weekly work. Good Teacher
Busy work b/c you have a paper every week (but it's easy)& he's helpful if you don't understand. 1st midterm isn't bad, 2nd is hard! Read the book for the mul. choice and pay attention in class for the essay answers.Go to the rev. session. 10 pg paper
Seems like a nice guy...definitely does love teaching. He does make some jokes, which helps lighten the mood of the extremely tough and boring material he goes over. He is a good professor, but economics is definitely not my strong suit, so...yeah.
Ok don't believe all the other people who rated Gill...he seriously sucks. His lectures make me want to hurt myself and I actually looked forward to taking tests because although I usually did horrible, I did not have to sit through that horrible lecture.
HATED the class...EXTREMELY boring lectures, difficult tests, very hard to follow along...although the guy seems nice, he definitely turned me against even the thought of future economics classes.
Class was very boring, but you MUST go to class to get an A. Keep good notes for help with the essay questions. Look at the study guide multiple questions. Remember 80% of the grade is multiple choice. Wekly papers, 10pg term paper, 2 midterms, and final
This class gave you some work to do weekly, but it was easy. He understands and explains material very well. He was one of the best professors I've had. His tests were pretty easy, there were no surprises. He reviews most almost everything on theexams
Good class, lectures can be boring but it still is a very interesting class Gill knows his stuff. Weekly Paper but they are easy, term paper, two midterms and a final. It is a good class, work load what I expected in Honors class
really really nice guy, tries to make his material intersting even though its ridiculously boring... 2nd midterm is deadly, weekly papers are easy, final isnt too bad, term paper is kinda tough... just go to class and you will pass pretty easily cuz he curves rather well
I thought Professor Gill was great. He's really into what he does, both the economics side and the teaching side. If you're into economics, you won't think it's boring like some people do. A lot of work but overall not to difficult. Just go to class and complete the assignments and you'll do fine.
he knows what he's talking about. very timid and in a large lecture, it doesn't help. a pretty nice curve that bumped my grade up a letter. if you don't like econ, you won't like this class, but if you're at least partially interested, you can learn from this guy.
Gill is a great teacher. Even though econ can be very dry, he made it somewhat interesting and definately knew his stuff. He's not too harsh of a grader and is definately more than fair. I'd say his class is one of the best I've taken at OSU.
Gill has a monotone voice that puts you to sleep, but he is an all-around nice guy and is willing to help those who need it.
He is a really nice guy who really knows his stuff inside and out but the only problem with that is during the lectures I feel as if he assumes we all know what's going on. Maybe it's just me but I am constantly LOST in this class. However he does seem to be fair with grading.
Very hard class but Dr. Gill is very helpful in assignments. Fair curve for difficulty of class. Class is interesting. I would suggest the course and the prof. Very helpful outside of class as well
Great guy, went above and beyond to help students learn. The WSJ stuff is annoying but interesting if you actually read articles.
I was in tears after not doing well on the midterms, but somehow he gave me a B- when I was praying for at least a C. He is very willing to help students. Go to class, study, talk to him, and do the extra credit and you will be fine.
Very demanding professor...will push you about as hard a you can go. We flew through the textbook in about 7 weeks and then just went on to money and banking for the heck of it. I have learned more from Dr. Gill than any other professor at OSU.
Entire grade based on 3 tests that everyone fails until the grades are curved. Going to lecture doesn't help because he rambles on and he sounds like Ben Stien. Seems nice but just doesn't know how to teach, out of my class of 250 about 15 people showed up... you'd think he'd notice.
Most important thing for this teacher is to go to lecture and take note of the things he repeats. You will get an easy B+ if you just pay attention to him, if you want the A you are going to have to read the book which is terribly boring.
Very Interesting Class, It did get boring at times but Dr. Gill is a great professor. He explains the material very well and knows what he is talking about. I personally thought Dr. Gill did a great job with the material though some of it can be dry. I hold the class (economics of crime) and the professor in very high regards.
boring class, but if u go to class u should be okay
Good teacher but his explainations are sometimes hard to understand. He moves VERY fast and is very demanding (large workload) but you learn a lot. Gives you exam questions in advance but mult choice is still difficult.
This man is hilarious.
make you read the book and come to lectures to know the material for midterm. Makes you pay for online notes to collect royalties, very dirty trick on students. would suggest finding a different teacher
I would sit in the front of this class, dead center middle and still pass out. it was so boring. the material is dry. hands down, i didn't like it. got a B in the class tho. guess i can't blame the class for sucking, but try getting elardo, he was a lil more upbeat when i had him for an upper level econ.
He's a good teacher and its not that hard if you take the time to study. You do have to read the book though. He tries to spice up lectures but its hard to make econ exciting.
I dont think he is funny. He is a robot and every class is like an open discussion with one person talking. The only problem is, is that his tests are tough and if you dont read the book you are screwed. He is not a good teacher and please get someone else. I have a 3.33, worked hard, received my first D EVER! Please stayaway no reason to takehim!
A really great professor. Lectures were clear and striaght forward, test and grading were fair.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS... IF IT IS REQUIRED FOR YOUR MAJOR, SWITCH MAJORS!!! Take Elardo instead... if you want to live to see 21.
Very enthusiastic and clear teacher. He makes it interesting and keeps the whole class engaged.
Dr. Gill is the the man! He is a very good teacher and a really cool guy. He often shows up to class wearing a hat similar to that of Indiana Jones, proving how much of a badass he really is.
100% English speaking professor. Pretty good speaker/presenter. Just goes over his slides with goofy pictures/drawings on them--some would find that boring but he throws in real world examples to keep it interesting. He can be funny at times as well. Also, he loves his tablet PC a little too much, lol. And the Indiana Jones hat rocks.
Gill doesn't communicate clearly. Doesn't really care about students it seems like.
Very boring, but nice professor.
Overall i enjoyed his class.. the tests were really hard because economics has so much information that he only had enough time to fly through the material. his voice is extremely monotonous and i often times fell asleep but he could care less because the class was so big. He curves grades alot and has an adjusted grading scale so thats nice
His teaching style is terrible. He uses UMM so many times in class and it makes coming almost unbearable. He also couldnt stick to the sylabus to save his life. We did 3 of the 11 chapters in the last class.
I've heard he's good for other classes, but he really shouldn't teach this one. He spent WAY too much time on history and iron law of war, and too little time on some very interesting topics such as the economic impacts of terrorism, nuclear, and biological weapons. This class could be a gold mine and he didn't even stratch the surface.
Prof. Gill was solid. His lectures were pretty clear and straight-forward, even though he seemed a little reluctant to answer questions during class. All of his assignments are really easy; weekly 2-page papers, 8-page term paper, exams...And his grading scale is probably the greatest known to man.
Class was pretty boring, but its econ. He makes typical dry econ professor jokes, and draws his own cartoons. Read the book, I found out I should have after taking the midterms (opps). He has a generous grading scale.
Extremely boring. Lecture is pointless and makes little sense, though his exams are pure memorization from whats on the review packet. Percentage grades are low, but curves are generous
Only teaches with power point. If he doesn't have his projector, he is pretty much useless. Only plus is his generous curves.
This teacher fails to provoke any independent thought on the subject of economics from his students. He gives you typed study guides for which he will monotonously dictate the answers to. Reguardless of how incomprehensible his answers are, memorize them and regurgitate verbatim on the tests for an A.. This class made me want to be buried alive.
Very Boring
Extremely boring. Must go to class to fill out monotonous study guide. Exams are just a test of whether or not you can memorize his study guide verbatim not whether or not you understand Economics. Nice guy, funny cartoons, just not a good teacher
Lectures are terribly boring and very random / hard to follow. We had to turn in 15-20 page typed study guides. Midterms contained multiple errors that students had to point out to him. He claims all questions are taken from the study guide but many of them were pulled from thin air. Definitely not an easy A. Do not take Econ 201 with Dr. Gill.
I've had worse teachers, but he's pretty bad. He doesn't follow the book, he follows the voices in his head. Then he constructs a copious study guide which he dictates to the class and then requires them to regurgitate for the exams. Much of his data can't be verified by the book, but he is extremely resistant to answering any questions. Useless.
Easy grade if you just study the study guide. It may be a boring class but it definitely isn't hard.
I had him for H200 too, and let me tell you he is boring. You don't really learn that much from him, but if you learn the study guide and figure out the graphs, you should be able to pull off a B or A. Make sure you fill out the study guide well, and draw like all the graphs, or else you WILL fail. He could have been worse, or a lot better.
took a potentially interesting class and made it horribly boring. exam questions were taken directly off of the study guide, and would have to be worded exactly right to be considered correct. not very approachable or understandable. only plus was the generous curve-i learned nothing, did horribly, and still got a b (like half of the class).
Prof Gill is the most useless, trite, degrading, self involved, and COMPLETELY UNAWARE teacher I have. He uses useless study guides and forces his students to look at his creepy drawings. His style of teaching was very unorganized. A class before our final, he went over 4 chapters and expected us to know everything. He is frankly the WORST teacher.
boring. tests are tough and tedious, but study guides helps. mentioned a curve, but was vague and did not stick with it.
I had seen the comments on here before taking the class, but I disregarded them. I wish I had not. The material isn't hard, but paying attention to it is. If you miss something in class, don't expect to be able to find it in the book. It is terrible. I would rather donate blood at a Mexican Red Cross than take that class again with Dr. Gill.
DO NOT take a class with Harley Leroy Gill. He thinks he is so cool with his tablet PC, his cartoons absolutely suck, and his study guide questions are ridiculous! Half of them he never full out answers, and you can never find the answers in the book. And the WSJ subscription??? Retire Leroy, we don't need you anymore.
The opportunity cost for taking this class was too high. I had a genuine interest in economics before taking the class, but Gill reduced the subject to a series of powerpoint slides. Writing of weekly papers required for the honors class. Ultimately, this class only tested your ability to memorize inane bits from a 2 hour lecture.
Dr. Gill may have been boring, but seriously the class was really easy. You were pretty much guaranteed an A on the papers no matter what you wrote, and he actually did explain stuff pretty well if you could pay attention. Lots of busywork with weekly papers, but overall an easy class.
Learned very little from his actual lectures even though he requires attendance. If students miss more than 3 classes, final grade is lowered by 20%. My friends that had Mirzae absolutely adored her and I regret not registering for her course instead.
I may be weird, but I actually enjoyed the class (probably because I have an interest in economics and the financial world). Dr. Gill is very educated and relates the ideas to current events. Much of what he teaches is common sense, but the class is still thought-provoking. Make sure you completely fill out the study guides. Ask questions.
Weekly 2 page papers, a 10 page term paper, two midterms and a final. Attendance is mandatory. Class consists of copying down his notes from a powerpoint, and the notes must then be memorized word for word. In addition, none of his notes can be verified in the book - don't buy it because you don't use it. I got an A, but I had to work hard for it.
2 mid terms and a final exam.multiple choice question.
This class isn't that bad. It's not that difficult to get an A if you're willing to work for it. He basically tells you what's going to be on the test, so if you memorize it then you'll get an A. He's a nice guy who is willing to help you.
He basically gives you a study guide, puts up some slides and reads directly off them. Nice guy, grading curve is awesome, but it's unlikely you'll learn anything besides random numbers. Also, his voice is rather droning. Don't take him for a class in the early morning.
This MOFO is the hardest teacher at OSU. If you have him, drop the class now and go get someone else. People score in the 40% range on his tests. Your grade is not worth gambling on this dude. F'ed my GPA up. Went from a 3.9 to a 3.5 because of him.
You'll like the class if you like Libertarian anarchists with mustaches.
I learned very little in this class and blame it on the professor. He is boring and not interested in teaching. He needs to update his power point slides. He has examples from more than 10 years ago. He gets really thrown off when someone actually asks a question (heaven forbid a question about ECON). Do NOT take this professor!
Nice guy, really boring, can't answer questions well. Powerpoint slides every day, you copy down what he says. Print out your own 15-pg note packets, write in them. You have to memorize a lot of lists for the tests, just memorize the study guide. Made econ boring (or is it inherently boring)?
This guy was ridiculous. Vague study guides that you fill out every class (after class I had to ask him about questions that he did not clearly answer). I have never been so pissed off in class. Tests are so hard. Expects you to remember and define everything. Really tests your brain's memory bank. Luckily an 88 is an A.
This guy is so boring and the whole class consists of listen to and memorizing his study guides word for word. If Possible, do not take Leroy Gill.
This class takes a LOT of studying. You DO have to basically MEMORIZE a book of notes for exams, but I ended up with A's on the midterms. Also includes 4 papers that have to be 5 pages each. He is pretty boring, but if you have a LOT of time, you can work towards the A. Also offers a 2% extra credit with the scale already at an 88% for an A. 5.5/10
Not a bad teacher, he basically gives you study guide notes during class, which you memorize for midterms. Assigned 3 papers, but if you write enough, you'll get an A on them. Make sure you print off all of the handouts, because he will make you re-write them on tests.
Boring as can be. Study guides and handouts cover everything that is on the test (so you don't need to read). Study hard for tests and shouldn't be too bad. Weird with papers... tough to get an A+ but didn't give out anything lower than a C+/B-.
Boring. Boring. Boring. Only real "plus" to the class is that all the notes and study guides are pre-written (i.e. just memorize the handouts he gives you, that is your exam). Other than that, he is BORING, papers prompts are vague and boring.
After taking 200H with him,I thought he was boring and I didn't like all the memorization. But after taking 201H with another prof,I have changed my mind.Consider yourselves lucky that all you have to do is memorize study guides, rather than read hundreds of pages in a book while trying to retain the important info.Easy A if you memorize study guides
Gill does not relate to students well, does not take the time to get to know students at all, very boring, all over the place, all you do is memorize a ton of information, and its very hard to stay awake in class, he would be nothing without his powerpoints
This was one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. The study guides have all but a few words filled in and you fill it in while he drones on and on.
Fairly decent teacher. Definitely knows his stuff, tries to make class bearable but can sometimes lull on. Nice guy, though. 88-100 is an A in this class, and 80%+ of the midterm questions are verbatim from the study guides, so look over those instead of the actual book, as it probably won't be needed. Very easy for an honors course.
Pretty good teacher. Nice guy. Just taking notes in this class was TERRIBLE. Basically have to copy down the entire slides as he whips through them b/c he does not post his slides or give anything handouts to help takes notes (he really needs to do this). 2 exams, and one final paper make up the grade
Note taking is difficult and slides are not made available. Do the study guide on Carmen and make sure you use the online quizzes and flash cards associated with the textbook and you should be fine. Final grade consists of a midterm, essay and a final - that's it.
Gill is a very absent minded professor, powerpoints and lectures are difficult to follow, he does not relate to students well, does not take the time to get to know students at all, test usually consist of multiple choice and short answer all consisting of memorization. Avoid this professor if you can.
If you attend lecture and keep your study guides filled in and organized, this class is at the very least an easy B. There are only 3 grades though- a midterm, a final, and a 10 page paper- so make sure you do well on all three!
I'm going to try and be nice here, but I don't have many good things to say about Gill teaching Econ 201H. Boring, drawn out speaking. You're supposed to fill in these pre-made study guides from his slides made in 1990's and it's almost impossible to catch all the information. Textbook helped teach the main topics but didn't help on the exams.
Worst professor at OSU; incomprehensible. Has no interest in teaching... wants you to memorize a million numbers. Terrible. His slides even have funny noises in between them that are annoying as can be.
