Great sense of humor and clear with his expectations are far as exams are concerned. Study his lecture notes and do a few textbook problems and you'll be fine.
Awesome sense of humor. If you follow his powerpoint notes and do the reading you can do very well.
Great professor. Go to lecture, review lecture notes and you will do fine. Also very helpful in his office hours. Really nice guy. Made Genetics and Ecology fun.
I concur with the previous assessments.
I love the way he lectures. He is very organized and provides us with outlines to follow along. Too bad some of the students in the class are rude and carry on with conversation when he is trying to lecture.
Very cool teacher. He is straight foward and there are no surprises on the test. He is a really nice guy, and brings a light-hearted feeling to the class room.
He gives you outlines for each lecture but gets behind really easy. To get you to go to class he gives pop quizes. His tests are kinda hard, but he curves them.
Take him if you have to take BIO 100. He provides outlines for each lecture. He also gives study guides for each test and a practice exam. NO FINAL, only 4 exams (not cumulative). Need to go to class though, he gives pop quizes.
Fun, easy going. Provides outlines for each lecture. Tests can be difficult if you don't study enough, but aren't impossible to get a B on. Pop quizzes are a pain, but show up to class and take good notes and you'll be fine.
very cool guy, makes class entertaining with his little jokes. no reading required, just attend lectures and USE LECTURE OUTLINES! they help so much! VERY straightforward testing..no trick questions.
Great lecturer, very responsive, humorous, straightforward. The second test was a little harder than the first though, because of the growth rate equations and life tables. Any guy that sounds like Kermit is worth taking.
It was a simple class if you went and stayed the WHOLE time. He gives 8 quizzes and drops the lowest, but if you're lucky and catch him on a good day, he may just have you write your name on a scantron and turn it in for credit. He's pretty cool.
He sounds like Kermit the Frog. Sometimes a little boring but cracks jokes that are hilarious. Tests are based solely on lectures. Be sure to go to class b/c there are surprise quizzes and you never know when they are coming. Great teacher.
Very straight forward.Would not test on materials he didn't cover in class.Just go to class with printed outlines from blackboard, take extra notes, review after class and you would get A on tests. No need to read the book unless you're unclear on something.
Love McClenaghan he rocks! His tests are easy and he is very helpful
He is very interesting and the outlines that he lectures off of can be printed out online. He gives very useful study guides and practice exams. I didn't even look at the book once.
Way easy, just go to class, don't read, and take some time on the exams and you will do fine!
He is very nice..although didn't give me the grade I deserved after I did exactly what he told me to do, WHATEVER
this class is sooooo boring. he does crack jokes every so often but over all BORING! Can easily pass if you take good notes. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!!! DON'T NEED IT! I NEVER BOUGHT IT-THANK GOODNESS! just take notes.
totally agree with the kermit comment! pretty easy tests, but i always failed the quizzes but still came out with a b+. cram and you'll be ok
The best professor ever. Puts notes online before class so all you need to do is follow along. Tests strictly from notes, not from text at all.
This teacher is so boring. i studied hard and came out with a d. take a diff teacher, he is sarcastic and speaks condescendingly to students who ask questions.
THis guy is great, he is so helpful if you go to him during office hours. I would highly recommend taking him. DON'T BUY THE BOOK~~ Lecture notes on the internet is all you need
This teacher is not good at all. He put's the notes online so it is not worth buying the book. You have to go to class to even think about doing good on the tests because all the info for the tests are based on lectures. The lectures are boring. I reccomend to take another teacher.
Fairly easy class. You have to go to all the classes due to pop quizzes, but as long as you print out the notes and follow along you can pull off a good grade.
his class is easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures.. no final at the end of the semester just an exam.. exams are easy.. just study your notes and his practice exams are avaible so that makes it easier.. plus he gives you study guides too.. beware of the pop quizzes though. go to class
His class is very simple. Notes are on Blackboard, if u plan on missing a lot of class then buy the book. If you go to class, the notes are all u need. There are 8pop quizzes though. Usually about 2 are given before each exam. He tries to be funny & appeal to the young freshman by making dumb jokes.
Class is ok. not easy not too hard. all the lectures are online. dont buy the book, because tests are only on notes. 8 pop quizzes. study for tests n ull do ok. curves everything too
Easy. Go to class and take notes. Don't buy the book. 8 pop quizes throughout the semester. Lectures are alright not too boring. I would definitly take this class
Great! Very clear on what will be on test. dont need book! Must go to class for lectures. All test material is from lectures.Explains everything very clearly so you can understand it. Very helpful and nice. 4tests 8quiz, best 7 quiz count. Final NOT cummulitive! Decent effort=C/C+
DONT BUY THE BOOK!! This class was not super easy but was not hard. He does a very good job on telling you what will be on the exam. Quizzes were so easy and tests were sometime hard. He was a great teacher!
If you take Bio100, take this guy! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, I dont think anyone would have a reason to open it. He's very clear and so helpful. He has really easy quizes which are straight from the lecture notes. His test are muliple choice and are easy.
Don't buy the book, all notes on blackboard. tests multiple choice, do the study guide, and it's pretty easy.
this class was extremely difficult..i recommend taking a different biology professor..this professor made lectures so mundane..everything is off powerpoint..if that's the way you want to learn..fine...but I don't like the way he teaches because it bores me to sleep
TAKE HIM you won't regret it!! he's super cool; 4 tests, 8 quizzes (he tell you the answers at times) make sure you have lots of ink because you will be printing alot of lecture notes. don't need to buy the book.
Evnethough at times you can't understand what he is teachin, he is still a good teacher. Why? Well, because at the end he curves the grades so much that it is impossible to fail his class. Oh and REALLY don't but the book. I didn't believe it at first, so I bought, it was just a waste of money. Just make sure to print the outlines from blackboard.
don't buy the book!!! just print the notes off blackboard and follow along during lecture. make sure you write down anything else he says that isn't on the printed notes...you won't regret it! do the study guide and you'll be fine on the tests!!!
I thought his tests were really hard, the last one especially, dont buy the book, follow notes on blackboard write down anything else, go to class for surprise quizzes!
Hands down the BEST biology class I've ever taken. Very understanding and caring teacher who tries his best to make his class fun and informative. Don't buy the book, everything you need for the class is online, however, i suggest going to class because of surprise quizzes and not all info is on the lecture notes. Solid effort=B/C
He's the best! You don't need the book, just print the lectures out for class. I got an A eeeaaasily. Just go to class and do the few random quizzes he gives. He gives you half of the answers at least for the quizzes anyways. He's so helpful and answers any questions you have. Sometimes class is boring, but it's worth it. BEST bio class to take.
awesome teacher!! he's so nice and very helpful. he even gives you a 5 min break in the middle of class. tests are from lectures only..i didn't buy the book because you DON'T need it unless you can't keep up in the notes then the book would be a helpful resource. overall...one of the best teachers i've had!!!
first off, don't buy the book, you'll never end up using it. But make sure that you go to class because you'll be lost on the tests and pop quizzzes if you don't attend. Getting notes from someone else won't really cut it unless they sit there and explain EVERYTHING to you. JUST GO TO CLASS!!! Overall, pretty easy class. He curves everything.
A very good instructor, helpful if you ask him questions
Excellent teacher! Knows his stuff, helps you out a lot. Don't need the book, just get outlines off blackboard and GO TO CLASS!! Has random pop quizzes (every 3rd lecture! Hint) Gives you study guides. Contact students from previous semesters because he re-uses material over and over!!
this class is so difficult...i hate this class..for some reason i'm not doing well on the pop quizzes...and I SEE PEOPLE CHEATING... which is unfair since they are using their notes...i think mr. mclenagan needs to address the problem of cheating

GREAT teacher. Pop quizes after 2 lectures, but they're 5 quest, look over noted before class, and sometimes he'll tell you answers. He's so funny, and knows what he is talking about. Tests are tricky, I studied hard, i got an A with the help his curve, And beware of cheaters, who copy off your**** when you do all the studying.james u dumb ass!
first off-don't buy the book. you will NEVER open it. if you don't go to lecture make sure someone(with your name and red ID) will be there in case there's a pop quiz and get the notes. you can get high Bs or As on the exams if you take the study guides he gives, highlight all the info and just memorize all of that. no cumulative final, good curve.
A very easy class, easier than AP Bio. He only quiz and test you off of his lecture, but read the book anyways to better understand the subject and the lecture. He curves the exams and he'll give you the free five points on quizes if he runs out of time to quize you. People only cheat on quizes which are only five points... no biggie.
Great teacher. Very helpful during office hours and don't buy the book, he doesn't test on anything that he did not cover in his lecture. So go to class, that's really your only responsibility.
his class is interesting but tests are really hard. tests have too much imformation and only 60 percent of it are on it and about 1 percent of the chapter is on there like 600 times.
He is a great professor. Theres 4 exams and 8 quizzes. His exams are quite hard tho, the avgs on some tests were 68, 69, 67. Go to lecture and take GOOD notes. we DID NOT use the book AT ALL so dont buy it becuase he tests you on his lectures. I ended up with a C with the curve which sucked! i thought i studied pretty hard.
If you want to do good you have to go to class so you can understand. The class was pretty intersesting and he's a very nice professor. If you go to his office hours a couple times he'll really appreciate it. I didn't do good at first but once i prepared study guides in advance i did good. Not an easy A but a great professor as long as you try.
Kermet the frog.. Fun, cool teacher.. go to class because he gives random quizzes.. I missed one day and it was a day that he gave a "gimme" quiz... "gimme" quiz: quiz that he tells you to just put your name and pass it in...
Don't buy the book!! Go to class and take notes, then study a lot and study the practice tests. You can print out notes, but its good to go to class and take extra. As long as you do that then you'll do great. He gives random quizzes, but sometimes he gives you the answers or lets you just put your name on it and pass it in. Nice Guy.
make sure you show up on the days that no one else does. He gives free quizes on those days
Great professor. Tries to make ecology interesting (becuause for most it's not). Go to lecture because he gives really easy quizes!
Teacher was alright. Sounds like Kermit! Gives random free point quizzes. Go the days after a midterm when no one else does and it's free extra credit. Don't buy the book. The biology tests sucks. you have to remember 7 lectures worth of information for the midterm. Take it for credit/no credit and the curve should save you.
Cool teacher. He told us that he sounds like Kermit the frog. Like others have said, quizzes are easy, mainly gives quizzes when a lot of ppl don't show up for class. 4 tests, 8 quizzes for entire semester
Not too bad. If you pay attention, the material is somewhat interesting. Most importantly: STUDY THE OLD TESTS! The old tests are the exams, and are extremely useful when studying.
class seems easy, but don't be fooled, the tests are pretty tricky. requires much memorization, literally knowing everything in the lecture notes, may seem overwelming, but hang in there. Don't buy the book, you won't need it, just take really good notes. 3 midterms, 1 final. random free quizzes. just get a hang of the way his notes are.
this class was a little hard for me. i got a C- and high Ds on all the exams but ended up with a C in the class because I only missed 1 class . he likes to do lots of pop quizzes so if you arent a good test taker then i suggest showing up to class everyday. oh and dont walk out in the middle of his class- he'll call you out
Print lectures from web site before every class and write on them as he goes through the lecture. Book not necessary; I only used the lectures and got an A. Make sure to study thoroughly though, don't just glance through your notes, REALLY STUDY. Great prof though, likes to make jokes
smart ass
Dr M is such a wonderful guy. He knows his stuff and teaches it very well. However, his tests are very hard. If you do not study your butt off, you will not do well at all. There is no need for the book, I never opened it and got a B in the class. Print all the lectures and do not talk in class or he will kick you out. I highly recommend him!!
He's a pretty good guy. You must go to class because he gives pop quizzes that affect your grade. Don't buy the book. I literally never opened it once. Actually I think it's still in the wrapper. For being such a boring topic he tries to do a good job. Tests are a bit hard. Study, study, study!
find someone who already took this class because he reuses questions. go to class because he gives extra credit and pop quizzes all the time. good guy really really horrible subject. dont buy the book.
this guy was pretty chill. he gives random pop quizzes and extra credit just for going to class. if you or someone you know goes and turns in a scantron youll get points. 3 midterms and a final. not too bad. lecture notes online. study guide and practice tests are very helpful. dont buy the book.
Such an awesome teacher! Says there's no extra credit but there IS, IF you stick around for the whole class. Gives pop quizzes so attendance is really important. But he's a really clear, kind of silly lecturer, so going to class is no sweat.
really cool guy, but does give pop quizzes. i missed about 5 out of 8 of the quizzes but got 85's and above on the midterms and came out with a C. tests are straightforward, no tricks, just use the study guide. helps to attend class but not necessary as long as you make up for possible missed quizzes with your exams!
My fav teacher at state by far. really cool, pretty funny guy. lectures are not boring at all. just go class and get all the e.c. and quizzes. the study guides and practice exams are so helpful too. I got an A easily just by putting in some effort
He is a really good professor. Lectures aren't that boring and you don't need to go to do well. However, there are 5-question pop quizzes throughout the semester that are a part of your final grade. He always puts the lectures, study guides, and practice exams on Blackboard. Tests can be tricky, but everything is curved.
great teacher. hes pretty funny and attendance isn't mandatory but it helps cause he has random 10 point pop quizzes which usually if you go he gives you the answers to. i barely went to class and the tests werent that bad and i got a C so if you show effort you will easily get a B
Really funny! He's keeps the class intersting. Basically print the slides for class and add some notes. Gives study guides and practice tests for all 4 exams. But be careful, the practice tests have similar questions to the real tests but they are slightly different. Pop quizes in class, but he usually tells you some of the answers.
Prof puts ups slides on Blackboard and lecture is based soley on lectures/slides, so pretty easy. Don't need to buy the book. 15 quizzes that are given randomly throughout the semester so kind of have to go to class to get credit for them.
My friend recommended me to take him for Bio. Posts slides to print out, which turned out to be about 30-40 slides a lecture. So much paper wasted! Pay attention, don't just take notes. LOTS of memorization for tests!
he is an awesome teacher! funny to listen to and explains things well! has random quizzes so i would recommend going to class! and gives extra credit quizzes if you do go! test were medium make sure you study his study guides! dont buy the book!
great professor who sounds like kermit the frog. 8 pop quizes 4 exams no finals. if you goto class and stay throughout the entire time, you get high chances of getting extra credit. he takes best 7/8 quizes.
Super easy! He reuses all of his test questions so if you can get ahold of previous tests the questions are word for word. Also, the in class quizzes are easy and he gives a lot of answers. The study guide is exactly what's on the test and he's a pretty funny guy.
Go to every class, listen well & take good notes. I made flashcards for the study guide & knew the practice exams well. You can do well in this class if you try because its not too hard if you keep up. Random questions from the lectures will pop up on tests, so make sure to listen!
this teacher is a nice guy if you come to class and pay attention. we never used the book and all of his slides are on blackboard. try to get the old exams and practice exams from previous semester because a lot of the questions are the same.
GO TO EVERY CLASS! he gives out random quizzes. write down the stuff he says thats NOT on the slides because that information will be on the tests. he curves grades quite a bit. i had a 66% and he gave me a solid C. this class is probably easier than the other bio classes but you must try hard to actually get a good grade.
Terrible professor. Have to go to class b/c of random quizzes. Do NOT buy the book. For tests study the old tests, and practice tests, the questions are straight from there. Don't even look at the notes from class. Easy A.
8 random pop quizzes, 4 tests. Quizzes are easy because he gives you the answers most the time. Test=Hard! Don't buy the book all the notes are on his powerpoints and fill out the study guide and study old tests (he reuses questions from prior tests)... huge class, but you can't mess around or he singles you out and kicks you out of class.
Good professor he knows his notes well so he just doesnt read off the pp slides. dont need the book. go to class and takes good notes. not everything he says is on the notes so make sure to pay attention. study the notes, study guides, and old exams and youll do fine
Class concepts and tests are easy; just memorize everything that is on lecture slides (not that much per test). Memorize well specific words/phrases for short answer portion of test. Pop quizzes are easy as long as you are in class for them. Discussion section for this class will make you work hard via an 8-10 page paper/presentation.
He is clear on his lectures. Gives pop quizzes, which actually make a significant difference in grades. Do not underestimate his exams, it can be tricky. Go to his office hours and butter him up, be respectful and he will help you out if you really need it. (first hand experience)
Gives pop quizes. He'll kick you out of his class if you're being disruptive or disrespectful. Humorous. Cool guy. MUCH use of the book. Use the study guides. Gives practice midterms on blackboard. Take him :)
Great teacher if you take notes and listen in class. Gives pop quizzes but drops the lowest quiz. Do not talk in class, he sees everything and WILL call you out by name even if you think he doesn't know you. Funny teacher. Didn't use book at all and got an A. Book is a waste of money. Take him!
Lectures are crystal clear and straight to the point. Textbook is not needed since everything that's going to be on test/quiz will be in lecture slides. Easy A.
Chill and laid back...humorous too. Class based entirely on lectures and he explains them well so just attend class and take good notes. Quizzes but they are fairly easy, sometimes he gives the answers jaja. No need of the book but must do good on his 3 exams in order to receive a decent grade. Very manageable with help and office hours
Easy class. Tests were tricky so you have to really read the questions slowly and clearly. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. no need to use it because the tests are all from his slides. print out the slide notes from blackboard and bring them to class every session and take notes. Study and memorize and YOU WILL GET AN A. Very funny professor, fully recommend!
Really nice guy. Tests are pretty hard but if you study consistantly you ll be ok. 8 quizzes, drops the lowest one. 3 Tests (non cumulative). Few extra credits for being in class whenever he feels like it (days of low attendance). No need for the book.
He is super chill. 3 exams (not cumulative) 8 quizzes (randomly given) which he drops the lowest one and a few extra credit points. You do NOT need the book! Everything comes right from his slides and the lecture. This is an easy A as long as you study the slides for the exams.
Very laid back Professor.Total of 3 exams, 8 quizzes that he randomly gives out (so make sure to attend class if you want the points!) Drops lowest quiz score & gives out a little bit of extra credit. Be sure to study the lecture slides & practice exams!! Book is NOT needed!
take with caution be cause his curve will screw you over, without the curve I would have a B, but the curve pushed me backwards to a C+, not too happy bout that
This guy was awesome. Coolest prof of the year. Do the work, attend the lectures, ask him questions and attend his office hours. He will learn your name and is super friendly once he knows you.
Keep this in mind; to get a good grade in the class, you need to beat your fellow students. The curve at the end of the course is based off of the individual students' performance and the curve can help or hurt you. Beware. Study off his slides, I recommend you fill in the study guide as soon as its posted on blackboard.
Great teacher, i went to his office hours a few times and he learned my name and was very helpful. Still says hi to me when i see him around. attend lecture! and you don't need the book
Hard class. No pluses or minus given. No need for the book.
Great professor! So passionate about everything and funny. All tests and quizzes are lecture based and slides are online, no need for book. Two quizzes per test, 5 tests in the semester but the last is optional to replace your lowest grade. Also has a good curve! I absolutely hate science but this class was entertaining. Definitely recommend him :)
Really interesting class. He is really passionate about it. If you get old tests from someone who previously took the class, and you study hard, you can get an A. Don't need to buy the book.
His class is pretty tough, but fair. You definitely need to study for his tests. They're not easy, but not super hard either. He cares about his students and it truly passionate about what he teaches. He is a very nice guy. He'll give pop quizzes so get to class. No hw. Don't buy the book. His lectures are easy to understand.
Don't take this class thinking you're going to learn a whole bunch about fun animals like lions, rhinos, zebras, and gorillas. About 70% of the class is learning about "animals" you've never seen or heard of. Like worms, insects, and things in the ocean. Nothing bigger than your hand. Not until the last 3 weeks do you hear about mammals and birds.
do not buy the book! tests are based entirely on his power-points. nice class fairly easy. you will learn a lot. he is very good and flexible. helps you out sometimes on your quizzes. i would recommend taking his class.
His class is tough. You need to study for his tests. They're not easy. . He is a very nice guy. He'll give pop quizzes so get to class. No hw. Buying the book helps alot. because some stuff he covers in his exams are in his PP but reviewing the book helps. His lectures are understandable
No need for a textbook, his tests are all in the power points he lectures. He's funny, and the class is easy if you study the notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives spontaneous quizzes.
Tests are very easy, are on exactly what he talked about in class. No homework, but need to attend classes because he gives random pop-quizzes, but they are easy, mostly just to get people to go to class. He is a great teacher, interesting and not confusing. We never used the book, everything you need is on his power point slides
GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He will learn your name quickly and is very helpful. Tests are easy if you memorize your notes. I actually used the book because some things in his lectures were a little unclear to me. Take his class!
I really enjoyed Professor McClenagan and his lectures. He is a really sweet guy and he is engaging while lecturing. Take notes/attend all lectures because it's impossible to pass without doing so. Also there are pop quizzes that help boost your grade. The tests were really hard for me and I had to study a lot to pass.
Take this class. No homework, no iclicker, no textbook, 8 pop quizzes, and tests are based ONLY on the lectures(posted online). Will kick you out if youre talking. He may give extra credit to the people who attended class that day so bring a scantron everyday. Study/ memorize your lecture notes and you will easily pass the class.
Interesting class, but this particular professor did not have an effective teaching style.
He gives you 50 mins for 25 multiple choice questions which require calculations. Avoid this guy for Genetics & Evolution. I'm a straight A student and thought this guy's class would be easy. It's as though he leaves out a huge chunk of knowledge that you need for the tests. Don't be fooled by the title of this course; it's a stats class.
Random pop quizzes, attendance is mandatory. Won't let you make up quizzes no matter the excuse. Drops your lowest score. Tests are hard because refers to all of the groups of animals by their scientific name. Don't go into this class thinking you're going to learn about lions, tigers, and bears. Mostly learn about "animals" you've never heard of.
He's a pretty good teacher. there are 8 random quizzes throughout the semester, so you always have to keep scan trons with you. he will drop the lowest quiz score at the end of the semester and when you study, make sure you know scientific names of everything. Also he sounds like Kermit the frog.
This class was my favorite. Teacher was really nice and lectures were not boring. He is very laid back. 4 multiple choice test that are semi difficult due to the hard scientific names you have to remember. The whole class is learning vocab.
Class was not too bad, no textbook which saves money, no hw, so as long as you attend all lectures and review his power point slides, u should do fine flash cards do help for test! Very easy going guy as well
This class was way too hard for a 100 course. Had to study very hard to get good grades on the exams.
This class is definitely not an easy GE class. Although I was able to get an A in the class, it was definitely not easy. It was the hardest GE that I have taken at SDSU and it was much more difficult than the upper division GE's as well. Regular biology might have been a better option. The class is curved a little bit.
Don't need textbook. All test on lectures. Sometimes goes through slides too fast, but for the most part it's easy to follow.
I thought this class was a little challenging because you really have to study if you want to get either a B or an A. There are 4 non cumulative exams and 8 unannounced quizzes and he drops your lowest quiz so that helps. Professor McClenaghan is a pretty cool guy, he tries to put some humor into his lectures which helps the time go a bit faster.
8 random pop quizzes so go to class. No homework is nice but you should take advantage of this for studying because the tests are hard if you don't study. I got Cs and a D on the first 3 exams because I didn't study. This was a mistake. Studied for 2-3 hours a day for 3 days before the last test and ended up getting a 96100. Few hours studying A
Do not buy the book! I got an A on this class without using the book. Just memorizes everything on the powerpoint slides and any other study materials he provides you on bb and you will ace the exams in no time. The exams and the final grade are curved a little bit depends on the class average. Also, go to class because for the pop quizzes.
4 exams and 8 pop quizzes. Don't need the book. A lot of people complained it was too hard, but if you study his powerpoints and know all the vocab from the study guide, easy A. Go to class bc sometimes he gives all the answers to the pop quizzes and even an extra credit one. Grades a bit on a curve, too. Definitely recommend taking this class!!
This has been my favorite class at state so far! Who knew Bio could be so fun! Definitely attend lectures because of pop quizzes, and sit in the front so he knows who you are! He was an awesome professor, and had great enthusiasm about his topics.
McClenaghan is a great professor that makes the subject interesting. He is very passionate about the subject and a funny guy. The only thing is that there is so much information that you need to know for each exam. It's not cumulative but you still need to study more than you think to get a good grade. Don't skip. Definitely not an easy A class.
Amazing professor!! Very interesting material!! Tough to remember everything for tests! Crazy animal names but interesting facts about them. Tried really hard and showed up to every class and still got a C. I didn't use the textbook ever.
Quizzes are always unannounced so don't skip class and always bring a scantron! He suggests studying for 12 hours a week--I didn't do that and still got a B, but a decent amount of studying is needed to pass. Test scores are curved, but not always by a lot. Lectures are pretty interesting and he definitely knows the subject well.
Gives many surprise quizzes. Test are very difficult. Would suggest start studying for his tests three weeks in advance or earlier. MUST GO TO EVERY CLASS
If you missed class, there was bound to be a pop quiz. Tests are super hard, very hard class.
Gives pop quizzes a lot, basically you need to go to all the classes if you want to pass his class. The tests are hard and you're gonna have to read a lot and even then the test are still tough.
Good at explaining in his lectures. Posts the exam folders well before the exams are taken, for people to study for. The class is based entirely on 4 exams and 8 pop quizzes, with the lowest pop quiz dropped. The exams are tough and it's very vital to know everything (it's a lot of material) for the exam. The exams are NOT cumulative, and no final.
I loved this class, he was super funny and very blunt and sarcastic which i liked. He will kick you out of class in front of everyone if he catches you talking- so shut your trap and you'll be solid. no book needed, his tests are fully off the lecture. tests aren't a piece of cake, but study hard and know that C's get degrees.
Great professor, very funny and sarcastic. Gives 4 main exams all worth the same amount of points (aka no midterm or final). 8 pop quizzes, you can usually tell when they are coming up. He is very organized and provides GREAT exam study material. Gives practice exams online which some questions are repeated in actual exam.
He really makes lecture enjoyable, he's funny, sarcastic and knows how to make the class laugh. His class is very clear and to the point, but there are a lot of pop quizzes. Favorite part of lecture was when he called people out for talking or leaving class early/late.
8 pop quizzes, but they happen about every 2/3 lectures so you know they are coming. the quizzes are super easy and he sometimes just gives you the answers. 4 exams and if you just study the study guide and the vocab you will do fine. A lot of ppl complained that this class waas hard but honeslty it wasnt bad at all.
Tests based entirely on lectures so GO TO CLASS. Got A's on all by studying only lecture notes (don't need book.) Lectures are clear and to the point. Gives pop quizzes usually after 2/3 lectures. Easy questions taken directly from lecture. Gives solid letter grades (no +s or -s). Calls people out when they're not paying attention or leave early.
I took McClenaghan for Bio 100 this past semester and to my surprise I really enjoyed the class. His lectures were interesting and he explains the material pretty well. You have to attend class because he gives pop quizzes throughout the semester. Other than that we had 4 exams, study and you will do fine.
There're 4 tests & all based on lecture. Be ready to soak in a LOT of information & study! This class isn't an easy A, put in time! There are pop quizzes usually after 2-3 lectures & are really easy, based off the lectures. Don't buy the book. He doesn't like it when you're being disruptive; you'll get called out or kicked out, so be respectful.
McClenaghan lectures and doesn't say anything that is not on the slides, which he puts online. The only reason to come to class are pop quizzes. There is no homework. He generally knows what he is talking about. From what I have heard, he is better than other the biology teachers.
Taught the first half of Biol352. Very clear in lecture. Tests only on material covered in lecture and discussion. Relaxed and approachable demeanor. Sarcastic and witty. Will call you out if you're disruptive in class. Highly recommend.
He's okay. Went to office hours and basically had to force him to answer my questions like I wasn't worth his time . Don't talk in class he will throw you out.
He is a decent professor, not great, but not bad either. There are 4 tests, none are cumulative. No final. There are 8 pop quizzes that can make a difference in your grade, so attend class. He drops lowest quiz. He can be funny at times which breaks up the pretty boring lectures. He always gives a 5 min break in the middle of class which is nice.
He is one of my favorite professors so far. He's HILARIOUS, but not afraid to call a student out if they're talking. You can tell he knows what he's talking about and cares for his students. You do need to study in order to get an A though, but I had mono and managed to still get an A, so it can't be that hard
I would take any of the classes McClenaghan has to offer. He made BIO 100 so much fun. In a large lecture of 500 students he managed to remember my name. Sit in the front row and take good notes of lectures. All of the exams come from lectures. He gives pop quizzes, and drops the lowest grade. Non-cumulative exams. McClenaghan Pozos every day.
Great teacher. The entire class is lecturing but he makes it interesting and you can see the passion he has for biology. Pop quizzes during class but he drops the lowest score. Take good notes and the class is easy to get an A in.
Professor McClenaghan is very friendly and hilarious, he smiles at you when he sees you. In his class, there are 4 exams, which are all non-cumulative. There are also 8 pop quizzes, one is dropped so don't skip class and bring a scantron every class meeting. There will be a lot of memorization in this class so quizlet helps.
I LOVE Dr. McClenaghan! I would take any and every class he offers. He's very very smart and obviously likes what he does. 4 exams, non-cumulative. Scales exams so that people pass. 8 pop quizzes, but you'll know when they're coming. Go to class. Pay attention, take notes. Very generous. Cute old man. Love him. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Dr. McClenaghan is hilarious and knows a lot about biology. He gives four exams with fifty multiple choice questions each. These can be hard since some questions are about things he only said once in class. But if you listen and take notes, you'll be fine. He also curves his class, so if you don't do well on the tests, you can still pass the class.
Favorite teacher of my first semester. He made zoology very interesting and i was really entertained with his lectures. Tests are pretty straight forward. If you go to class you will get an easy B with no studying.
All his classes are lectures. Some can be tedious but he's a pretty funny guy overall. You have to study for tests but he gives a decent curve. He bumped up the grades at the end of the semester. He gives pop quizzes every 2 to 3 lectures so if you time it right you don't always have to go to class. The lectures are online as well.
5 question pop quizes. Tests are multiple choice. Should study vocab and taxonomy. Exams are tough if you only spend the weekend studying. Theres a slight curve on each exam. Sometimes he gives the answers to quizes. Don't plan on chatting with friends during class or he'll call you out forsureeee and possibly kick you out too. 7/10 class. It is eh
Definitely a great guy. He's humorous, is passionate, and made class enjoyable. With that being said, make sure that you always go to class or else you will miss pop quizzes. And those add up for sure. The exams are pretty hard but the curve is amazing. I thankfully passed, and I know that if I put in more work I would've easily gotten an A or B.
This class was ridiculously hard. For a 101 class it was way harder than it should have been. The first test is the only easy one so make sure you get an A or a B on it to help your grade. The last 3 tests are all highly scientific terms. When i realized i was close to failing, i studied for the last test for 4 hours and got a B and passed the clas
Definitely way too hard for a level 100 GE class. He makes you memorize so much random stuff and the scientific terms for all the animals. NOT an easy A. And you have to come to class because he gives random pop quizzes which are sometimes hard as well. Would not recommend this class, there's much easier GEs out there!
I do not know why people complain about this guy. He is really nice and gives entertaining lectures. Just review the power points and study guides for great grades on tests. I never studied for the pop quizzes and still easily got an A in the class. I recommend this class for those who need the GE.
His lectures are pretty interesting. 8 pop quizzes throughout the semester. 4 non-cumulative exams and no cumulative final. The first exam is the easiest, but the next three contain highly scientific terms. Make sure you know the taxonomic groups and vocab for the exams. The textbook is only used for clarification, so I wouldn't recommend buying it
Hes a great teacher but beware tests are TOUGH on animals no students heard of, take for cr/nc if able to, or take bio 100 online instead if you are looking for an A. This class is 4 tests and 8 pop quizzes with tests straight from his spoken lectures, often stuff not typed on his ppts. There is a slight curve though but no plus/minus scale
This class is basically all memorization, but there's a lot that you need to memorize-there's no way you'll do well if you cram the night before. He gives out pop quizzes, but does drop your lowest score, and he'll give you hints when they are. You should attend lecture bc pop quizzes, but also you need to attend for the test- he's hilarious tho.
Idk why im doing this because he is retiring next semester. Please hit that thumbs up if youre even reading this. P.S. his lectures put me to sleep but he seemed cool
Man this class was very interesting, and on top of that it was very easy. I wouldn't study for any exam and I would ace them. All you need to do is pay very close attention to lecture and write everything down. People who failed his class should drop out cause It was very easy Lol. I did great even though there were people who wouldn't shut up.
Interesting lectures, nice guy, and he can be pretty funny at times. Exams are okay, you just need to study more practical examples if there is math involved (he gives formulas on slides, but you need to do practice problems on your own). Getting the book is good if you want an A as it really helps clarify things.
