Lesley is one of the best teachers I have ever had. yeah, her class is tough because there is a lot of work involved but it is well worth it. She is helpful at all times and is an amazing person overall. She explains everything so everyone understands and gives lecture objectives to help guide you along and prepare for exams. highly recommend her!!
she is a tough grader, and very specific about what the answer should be. But I like how she puts everything on the board so you can write it down easily. She is also very light-hearted during lectures, which makes things a little fun. During critiques of your work she is very serious though. Seems to want everyone to do well & understand the work
Excellent biology teacher. Very clear with the lectures. As long as you take notes and study, you'll be good to go. Highly recommended.
Lesley is very helpful and is always available for help with any of the material. She is very quick at responding to emails and wants everyone to understand the concepts of the class. This is a very hard class; I had to take it twice. She was far better than my previous teacher and I would recommend her to anyone needing to take this class!
Lesley is by far the most concise and organized instructor I've had at Palomar. The nature of the material is not simple but she makes it enjoyable and very clear. Exams come directly from notes. You must read before class and do homework every week in order to get a good grade. If u want 2 breeze by with no work she's not for you! You will learn!
She is a great professor. Make sure do do all your homework and extra credit. If you try you will get a decent grade. Tests are from lecture notes and homework. I would highly recommend this teacher!
I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
She is a very helpful teacher, and she has very easy lectures. She is also a fair teacher, and easy to approach with a question. If you attend lecture, study, and do your work, you'll receive a good grade.
Dr. Williams is a fantastic teacher. I learned more in her class than all my other classes combined. I highly recommend her!
She is a nice lady and her lectures are very easy to follow along. She writes all her notes on the board and that is what the tests are based off of. Her exams can be difficult though because they are not just mult. choice. She is a VERY tough grader!! Marks you down for anything and is very frugal with her points!
Lesley is the best teacher I have ever had. She will be a mentor for me. I have never learned so much and acquired such a strong foundation in a subject. I highly recommend Lesley.
Absolutely the best professor, hands down. Class does require effort, but she is very clear about what you need to know. Homework is minimal, studying is not.
Lesley's absolutely phenomenal & makes class increasingly interesting. However, she will challenge students with tricky questions on journal reviews, homeworks, & Exams - which require critical thinking as well as memorization. She's very organized, records lectures, posts lecture objectives,& offers 14pts HARD extra credit. Palomar's BEST!
Excellent instructor. Highly organized and clear communicator. Uses a lot of analogies, which is fun and helpful.
If you are a terrible test taker as I am then Lesley is the professor you want to take. Just do all the assignments and you will be fine. Not to mention that you will learn a lot. Wish she could have taught all my science classes.
records lectures, and has an organized blackboard filled with info. Often, says to read papers on her blackboard with pages to study. Her tests make you think and can be confusing. Not that best teacher but does use decent analogies. Seems pissed when you bother her when you don't understand.
Lesley is an amazing teacher! The techniques she uses during lectures(verbal explanations, comparisons, stories, pictures, drawings) make that class easier to understand. Tip for future students, do you lecture objectives they really do help with the tests! This class is hard, but its the best class I have ever taken at palomar. Take Lesley!!
Lesley has me thinking about changing my career path and becoming a microbiologist. Phenomenal teacher! She takes an extremely difficult subject and teaches in a way that tough concepts are grasped with ease. Do the lecture objectives and spend time on the Journal Articles, homework and research project. Wish I could take another class she teaches!
Lesley is an awesome Prof! She is helpful and does a lot of extra things that you can get points for. Do the Journal, Research Project and objectives or Re-write the notes. The topic is difficult but she makes it ver interesting. Test are variable, some difficult and some difficult but some not so difficult. AWESOME, fun, and exciting class!
Leslie is the bomb!!! She's such a good professor! The class is hard but she does everything to make it fun and interesting. I wish she taught Anatomy!!!
I loved this class so much! It's an interesting topic and Lesley makes it so much fun and easy to learn. Oh how I wish she taught Anatomy!!! I wish Lesley could teach all my Science classes. As long as you keep up with all the work, this class is extremely do-able. I enjoyed every minute of it! :)
Her teaching skills are really good. It's just that It's hard for me to understand. I like her though, It's just too much homeworks (every week!). She doesn't curve grades. So, if you'll take her, make sure you're prepared.
Lesley is very intelligent and a great teacher! You can learn a lot from her if you put in the effort. The book was used very little and you REALLY need to be prepared going into the class by understanding biology, chemistry and anatomy at an HONORS level because if you don't.. you can forget about getting that much needed (*NURSE APPLICANTS) A.
This Proffesor is extremely knowledgeable in Microbiology, however she expects you to learn Micro at an Honors level or as if it is your career. Many things seem irrelevant & she makes this class VERY hard. Many people who get straight A's in College will have a hard time just passing the class.
She is the very best of the best! You cannot expect this subject to be easy, but if you show up for class, take good notes, do your lecture objectives, and LISTEN...you will learn so much! I took Physio and Micro with her...and feel as though I now have a firm foundation of the 2 subjects...do yourself a favor and jump at the opportunity!:)
She is a great professor! I gained more knowledge than I expected from this class. Material is not hard, but you need to be extremely precise and accurate with your work. She provides so many helpful tools to aid understanding (i.e. records lectures for you, posts lecture objectives for studying, T.V. recordings on past material.) Great class.
Leslie is the best Micro teacher at Palomar hands down. She is very clear. She eplains thuroughly nthen emphasizes by writing down on board. Test are completely based of what he writes down and that is it as well as her lecture objectives. not an easy class and alot of work but with hr help very possible to get an A
Lesley is great. She does everything she can to help you pass. She has all of her lectures recorded online, as well as objectives for each exam.
Awesome class, great professor. You will have to work for a good grade and you will have to earn it. She gives the best lectures which means the best notes. Very organized. DO the objectives from the beginning! They make a world of a difference, test questions come straight from them! Excellent professor.
Truly an amazing professor. If you are taking Micro, take her. Do not hesitate. She will make you work, but you will walk away from this class with so much knowledge on the subject. She provides tons of resources to help you succeed. Take advantage of them all and you won't have to study so hard for the exams. The BEST professor at Palomar!!
If you are taking this class, you really have to work hard. Do the lecture objectives, go to SI if you need help and you will succeed. I could have gotten a better grade then what I got, but it's because I didn't put so much effort. She expects you to give 100% of effort. Overall she really loves what she teaches, and she's a great professor
I loved her class! I never was really into science classes until I took her. She is an amazing teacher and makes the material very easy to understand. She wants her students to do well and tries to make the class really understand the material and not just memorize it.
This class is not easy! be prepared to study study study! she is a great professor, she knows her stuff very well, but that's the problem. She expects you to learn every detail. hard class.
As a LD student, this class was VERY challenging for me & I worked on the material for 30+ hours outside the classroom each week. But know this, you should consider it a PRIVILEGE to be in her class. She is an AMAZINGLY gifted & talented professor. I just ADORED her! Just remember folks, this is an upper division course; slackers need not apply!
If you want to have your mind blown- take Lesley! She is amazing, intelligent, funny, and will put you to work like you've never worked in your life. You will be eager to learn, and the reward is an expanding mind like you've never experienced. Nursing majors- take her. Do not think twice. She is brilliant and loves to teach. Prepare to work hard.
1.5 hours lecture; rest is lab time. Don't even think about leaving early! She will set up mock practicums often. Takes small groups for personalized mini lab-lectures. You will work on your "specimens" EVERYDAY. She goes above & beyond & wants you to succeed. Lesson plan is a perfectly oiled machine! Prepare to work your tush off! Loved her!!!!!!!
Horrible teacher! RUDE!! I asked question one time and got a smart remark back. I love marine mammals before her. Her videos are annoying. Hash grading on the assessments. I DID ALL THE WORK AND BEARLY PASSED WITH A D. forget this class.
Great videos that are clear, well structured & informative. It's a Bio class so some work is needed but it's very, very passable. As a lover of marine biology, the topics were fascinating. 10/10!
I started out as a Chem major just taking Bio because I needed it to transfer. She made learning about cells and body functions so simple to understand and interesting! Switched my major and got an I (heart organ) Biology sweatshirt. I'm only sad I probably won't get her again in the future.
She is an awesome micro teacher and really only does what pertains to the health field. She is a very tough grader and the tests are brutal. There is no memorizing in the class and she expects you to know concepts inside and out. Study about 20-30 hours week and do the lecture objectives they really help!
Do the lecture objectives for every test! When I didn't do them I did poorly on the test, when I did do them I got A's. The class is fun and I learned a lot. She can be a little intimidating, but she is an excellent instructor and is a lot of help.
I'm in the middle of my summer school class with Dr. Williams and I LOVE her. She does online video lectures and I've never had anyone do this before. She lays everything out there for you. All resources to get an A are right in front of you. Yea, you have to work for it, but you are in college... that's expected. I recommend her highly!!
Talks down to you when you need help. Very very tough grader with no feedback.
Lesley is an excellent instructor, but she is simply too condescending to make a meaningful connection with students. She is just rude if you are less knowledgable than she, which is not practical in the business of teaching. I'd rather struggle than ask. This course is really well-designed, and you will learn if you apply yourself, just beware.
Definitely the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. Intimidating but not if you are straightforward with asking for help. Absolutely will not hand out grades without hard work. Respect her and she will respect you. I worked hard while having a full time job and managed a B. Definitely the smartest woman i've ever met. Very admirable.
Best professor I've had. She gives you an honest grade, what you put in to the class is what you'll get out of it. Her expectations aren't any more or less than what should be expected in the health care field. Go into this class being eager and on top of things. Also have an open mind to new things. 10/10 would recommend her to others!
She is a good professor but DO NOT take if you don't plan on spending a lot of time on your summer class. She provides lots of information and if you get behind it is torture to makeup. She doesn't take any late assignments and is a pretty tough grader.
I absolutely loved this class. She gives out lecture objectives and uses well produced video lectures to give you the answers. She explains everything wonderfully and made it easy to grasp complex subjects. Quizzes and exams are exactly what's on the L.O.'s. Do the work and you'll do well. I would absolutely take another course of hers.
She's an amazing professor. Although she is a tough grader, if you listen to her lectures and write down everything she puts on the board and study it, you'll do great. I loved her lecture style which was far from boring.
Phenomenal instructor - made the daunting microbiology prerequisite approachable & interesting! This was my favorite class I've taken in a long time. Lesley cares about her students and gives them every opportunity to succeed, you just have to put the work in. Clear grading criteria & sense of humor, study the lecture objectives!
Lesley is knowledgeable but tough, and will make sure you are prepared especially if heading into a nursing program. Write down as much as you can, read your notes over and over, follow her lecture objectives, and you will be fine!
i highly recommend lesley, however make sure your course load isn't too heavy (i regretted that when taking this class) u have to DEDICATE time & effort to purely understand the complex concepts & apply them (we do case studies). lesley is straightforward! 4 exams. 1 cumulative lab final. opt cumulative lecture final. 7 lab online quizzes.
I took Biology of Marine Mammals- loved the content. Professor was very helpful and kind when I had trouble with assignments. But, if you think its an easy class about whales then you'd be wrong. I also don't recommend taking the online class if you can't go to the college campus. Exams are on campus!
Had her for microbio! Clear, fair grading! Her class is super interesting and she's inspired me and a friend to pursue degrees in micro. Definitely have to work for it, but she's passionate about micro and her lectures are amazing! Exams just like the study guides. She also makes note-taking easy. Love her! Seems intimidating but she's friendly!
Professor Williams is an amazing teacher that makes dreadful topics interesting. I took her for both physiology and micro. For both classes, you have to work hard for your grade but she gives all the tools necessary to obtain a good grade. Do the lecture objectives and it makes tests 100 times easier. Take her!!
Shes intimidating and not welcoming if you have questions so make sure you know the material because she get annoyed explaining things over or tells you to find out yourself. The online transition was tough. Wasnt very understanding and felt like she was more focus on making things harder for the student than trying help them during that time.
Prof. Williams is a neat professor who knows a great many things about her field. With that being said, everything that she teaches will be on the test and will be explained clearly . While the pandemic messed up plans for this class halfway, she did her utter best to accommodate and made sure we learned what she wanted us to know. Overall great.
I had Prof Williams for both physiology and microbiology. She is hands down the best science professor at Palomar. Her classes are not easy by any means, but she provides you with the tools to succeed. I recommend doing the lecture objectives as you're learning the material and to use the lecture objectives as a study guide.
Amazing professor. Cares about her student's success in the classroom and beyond.
Obviously, this was an online course that are not always easy, but she was so good. Her lecture videos were so easy to understand and I really enjoyed her class. She was super nice and easy to work with. Definitely recommend this class.
This class is one of the hardest classes I had to work for my grade in. Despite that, I truly did learn a lot from her and her lectures cover basically everything you need to know. Beware, if she teaches something be ready to explain that same thing back to her in the same exact way or you will lose points on an exam. Overall, she's one of the best
My favorite class I have ever taken because of how interesting physiology was, and how clear and organized she was. Her lecture objectivss helped so much. Definitely was the hardest class Ive ever taken and I had to truly put all my effort in to get an A, but I feel it really prepared me for my future career. She is a great professor. Fair grader
Tough course but amazing professor. You will work hard for your grade. Attend every lecture/lab as it covers all the material that's on the test. She is clear with lecture material, due dates and gives great analogies. Study at minimum 30 hours per week more if you want an A. She's very kind, but expects as much out of you as she does herself.
Positives- very organized and puts a lot of effort into her material. Lots of videos- SO many videos. Negatives- this class is a PREREQUISITE for nursing school. Treats the class as if you are immediately in the medical field after passing making the material super difficult to understand with no help. You are basically teaching yourself from book
She is very detailed and organized about what is expected of the class. Her lecture objectives contain what will be on the exams. Sadly, I have a bad first impression from her the first day, sounding like she doesn't want to be here. She told us straight up that she has plenty of reasons to quit Palomar. First exam, class average was a D.
Dr. Blankenship is a great professor. She really wants you to LEARN the information, not just memorize material. Which in turn also makes this class very hard. I struggled a lot, especially with the free response questions on tests, but her class is reasonable if you go the extra mile. But it really does require lots of time and effort to do well.
she is an interesting PERSON, but not a great professor. First day of class said "idc if you keep these papers, if you don't collect the papers they are tossed, I never plan on teaching this class ever again." this is an INTRODUCTION class. she does not care about accommodations. For a 3.5 hour lecture she teaches 15% of whats on the exam in class.
Professor Lesley was great, I enjoyed her class although it is a difficult class. She provides study guides and is available to answer any questions you may have. Students are able to succeed if they put in the time and effort into this class. Showing up is a must! Every lecture is heavy and full of information. Good luck to future students!
PROS: Lesley is very organized. Her lectures are prerecorded to rewatch as needed, and they contain almost all of the material you will need. CONS: Lesley is VERY condescending and blatantly expressed that she did not want to teach/be there. This INTRO class goes way past the basics. Don't plan on working if you are taking other classes with hers.
This class was beyond difficult for a prereq class. Very condescending to students and is vague with responses. 40+ hours a week, study guides that were not useful on quizzes or exams. Notes/ study guides are NOT allowed to be used.
Lesley's way of teaching biology is so clear & concise. She provides plentiful resources & clear lectures on everything you need to know. Her lectures are creative & engaging & Lesley is very charming in her delivery. I feel that her teaching style led to my success in the class. She's an incredible person & professor!
Excellent knowledge. Get ready to study, not easy as this class should be. Accessible, creates and follows her schedule very well. Strong guidance, if you want to excel she is the one to push you to learn. Explains with many useful ways. Fair, and hard worker. Well rounded professor, applies concepts. I will take her classes again, anytime!
Lesley is incredibly knowledgeable but very tough. Get ready to spend a lot of time outside of class to prepare for exams. She has homework due on the days she has exams. There is also a research project that needs to be done in groups. She has 5 total exams, a cumulative but optional final and a final lab exam. Hardest class I have taken so far.
PROS: very knowledgable, good lab materials, easy to follow lectures, uses real life examples, shares past experiences in medical field CONS: patronizing, hates repeating herself, gives poor verbal instructions, berates you if a mistake is made, does not come alongside students Excellent researcher, awful teaching instructor. Take someone else.
This was one of the toughest classes but also my favorite class. Lesley is able to explain concepts clearly and is 100% available during office hours for any further explanation. Her lecture objectives are exactly what will be on exams, so take those seriously. If you put in the work and meet her halfway, she will get you to the other side.
This class started slow, the material is not complicated- It is very easy to get a high grade in this class if you just put in the time. I also am very interested in the material, however, she makes lectures extremely boring and responds to questions patronizingly. if you're looking to enjoy the class, find another professor.
Ive had many science profs at multiple colleges/universities, and Prof Lesley is easily one of my favorites. Her lectures+labs are interesting, engaging, easy to follow/study, and her exams are very fair. Outside of her excellent abilities as a prof, she is kind, approachable, knowledgeable, hilarious, and an outstanding person in every aspect.
Simply put she is just an amazing professor. She is very clear with what she expects her students to know, no surprises. Her lectures are very straightforward, interesting, engaging and informative. As long as you put in the effort and listen to the lectures, you will do well. I would definitely take another one of her classes if I had the chance.
Probably one of favorite professors that I've ever had! Microbio is known for being a difficult subject but she has a way of teaching in a way that makes it easy to digest and follow. Truly walked away with so much knowledge. Her study guides are exactly what you see on the test and labs are very easy. Wish she taught more science classes!
She is enthusiastic about the material, and the video lectures present the information in an engaging manner. Overall, would recommend this course and instructor.
Professor Lesley is a great professor!! Her exams are lecture heavy, you need to put in a lot of outside time to understand the material and find what study techniques work for you. You need to understand the concepts, it's not just memorization. Find a good study partner and you will be fine!
Lesley is the best, like, honestly. I came into this class scared because of BIO 212's rep, but Lesley is beyond smart, SO FUNNY, she has so many stories that go along with the lecture that actually help concepts stick! She will admit that she's a hard prof, but do the lecture objectives and you're GOLD. Drops the lowest exam + Group project/paper
