Leslie is so much fun! I really enjoyed lab because of her! She explains things well, is funny, and very fair. She really cares that the student understands the material. Really recommend Leslie!
Leslie is great. Sometimes a little unsure of herself but always has a story to make the lab interesting. I learned more from Leslie in 101 and 102 than in any other previous Bio classes. She is more than fair and willing to work with students that give her the respect that she deserves.
Leslie is THE teacher you want for lab! Without her, we would have never passed lecture. Plus, she's beautiful and HILARIOUS! We all love her. Take her class.
L. Chao is a great teacher! She is very helpful and friendly! If you are unsure of something - just ask and she will come and help you! I highly recommend her!
Really prepared me for anatomy and physiology this summer. She is a new teacher eager to do a good job teaching. She is personable and caring. Replies quickly to email messages. Challenging exams but fair (lets you skip a few questions).
Leslie is a genuinely caring and motivating teacher! She will go to great lengths to help you and make sure you understand the material. She answers e-mails quickly, is fair, and lets you skip a few questions on the exams. Her exams are challenging, but stick to the material covered in class. Plus, she's lovely and hilarious!
I took her class based on recommendations here, but I was led astray. She teaches straight from powerpoint, and basically reads from her notes 100%,without even looking up. Moves very fast and gets impatient when you ask questions. She's also very disorganized in lab. She seems nice, but she's still new at teaching this section. Go elsewhere.
Leslie is awesome! She tests solely off her lectures and her tests are structured so you can choose which questions to answer (a huge plus!). She makes class fun, and strives to make sure her students understand the material, which is very difficult, in-depth and challenging, as it is a 5-credit class. I highly recommend Leslie!
Reads straight from her power point notes, never looks up. She gets frustrated easily. She also takes things personal. Not a helpful teacher.
Leslie is a great professor! Made the classes fun and has a great attitude towards teaching. She provided study guides which helped a lot. Leslie is awesome. She's friendly, understanding, helpful and most of all she cares about her students.
I loved her class! I took it once, and hated it, then I took it from her and I loved it! She is really fun and funny. She teaches in a way to where you learn, but she makes it aplicable to tangable things. She is really approachable and nice! She was my fav. college professor so far! Loved her! Deff take it from her if you can!
Leslie is awesome. She is very approachable if you have questions. If she doesn't know the answer to something she'll tell you and let you research it for extra points. She's not an easy teacher and makes you work for your grade, but she's a fair and gives you options if you don't know the answer to something. I'm sad I can't take more with her.
Yes, reads from notes but our class was told 1st day. Just b/c she?s approachable & cares about her students, unprepared students don?t expect free answers. You work for your grade; class is straight forward, do the work & follow instructions. Study guides are relevant to exams. Tote pts are great. She posts announcements to clarify questions.
This teacher is AWESOME! I never thought I would have any interest in this class, but I learned it so well from her I'm actually liking it now. She is very helpful, love her test structures and her teaching style. DEFINATELY TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Beginning science students are lucky to have Leslie. She lectures straight out of the textbook and provides very thorough study guides for exams. She brings passion to her job, loves students, and wants us all to do well. Plus she is hilarious :) Work very hard and you will do well.
Leslie is a great teacher for students that pay attention and do their work. She seems emotional but that is only because she cares about her job and her students. She is extremely organized and her lectures are easy to follow. I will take a teacher with mood swings to a teacher that is monotone any day! I highly recommend her!!
Leslie is an amazing instructor. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to get into her class. She teaches with clarity, and with humor. The material covered in this course is hard, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to help you to understand it. She is my favorite instructor at PCC, she goes above and beyond what a teacher needs to do
Amazing teacher. Drops lowest quiz score. So helpful and will make sure you understand everything. If you show up and try, you will get an A.
Leslie saved us during the summer quarter. Our instructor was sick and Leslie taught the class several times without being given prep time. When the school decided to cancel the class 2 weeks in (original instructor was MIA) she stepped up and taught us and taught us well! She's an amazing instructor, and I wish I could have her for every class!
This teacher has very hard quizes and exams.
Leslie is a great teacher! She is gracious and has a good teaching style. Desires to help everyone learn the material and even had study sessions that she stayed unpaid for. I highly reccomend her.
She is not good with time management, but will always provide you with all the information you need for the exams. She povides study guides, extra credit assignments, and after class tutoring. She really does care about her students getting a good grade! I'm very glad I took her class.
Was told that this instructor was the one you really wanted. Not true, I didn?t think she was all that great. All she did was read from the pp. She is funny and we did laugh but when it came time to do the work, I found her to be sloppy, unprepared, and disorganized.
Leslie Chao is one of the most talented, hip, supportive and fabulous instructors one might come across. I got lucky to take her 212 and SO wish she taught 213 as well. She SUPPORTS her students because she wants them to succeed. She is open and available for questions. She delivers the material in a clear and concise manner. Gotta love her!!
Leslie is one of the best teachers at PCC I have ever had. She knows how to take a difficult subject like Adv, Bio and make it interesting and fun. Her tests are generous and fair. If you get the chance to have Leslie for a teacher...you won't regret it!!!
A+++++ The type of teacher you can learn a lot from and still have fun. Very interactive and will help you learn as many times as it takes to get it. Stays after class when time permits. If you need one of the classes that she teaches take it from her you will be glad that you did.
Creates a wonderful learning experience for those who are in need of BI classes. You should take her classes if you need them or just to learn about science in an interesting class with a grate teacher.
Can be nice one minute and rude the next. Not helpful regarding questions that have to do with clarifying her instructions. She gets DEFENSIVE, even if approached in the nicest way, if you do not understand her written instructions. AWFUL TIME MANAGEMENT! Gives LOTS of "busy work." She does love biology though.
I had her for BI211/212 and the last comment is mostly true, especially the part about loving biology. I like the fact that she works REALLY hard, cares about her students, and is VERY fair. She posts all her notes and gives study guides. She writes awesome letters of recommendation too. She is always striving to improve and I appreciate her.
HATED this subject before this AMAZING TEACHER came along and made it so clear. I seriously thought about changing majors. She explains it so well, can always reword and explain it in a different way, always made it make sense. And she is SO helpful, she wheeled me on a wheel chair to class and back to my car when I broke my foot. BEST TEACH EVER!!
Leslie is a very hard working and cares a lot about her students. She gives great reviews. I wish that she would teach BI213! I am going to miss her.
Very nice and helpful, will work with you if you make an effort.
I wish she was teaching BI213! Her lectures were extremely helpful, and it was very easy to follow along in the text to see where things were coming from. This was a super-fun class, yeti and all!
She cares a lot about her students, works really hard, and posts TONS of material. I have never had a harder working teacher! Her testing style is a bit unusual but it works for me. She tells funny stories to help memorize material. She is a good teacher now but she will be a great teacher in the future. Keep it up L.Chao!
Her test are based on the lectures. Extremely helpful teacher, and cares about her students. I would highly recommended her.
Leslie was a great teacher. Very passionate about biology, and really wanted everyone to do well. Gave tons of great notes, and made copies of powerpoint slides and made them available to everyone. She expects you to absorb a lot of information, though. Would take a class from here again.
This teacher cares about her students! She was my teacher 3 years ago and she still remembers me! Enough to write a very personal letter of recommendation for me for nursing school.
Leslie was one of the best teachers I've ever had. I had her at night and she was always willing to stay after class if her students need the extra help. Her teaching method was very useful. She makes her own slides and tells you what to focus on. I learned a lot and couldn't have done it without her. Anyone serious about doing well take her.
Leslie really takes times to make sure her students understand the material. And she really cares about her students. She instilled confidence in me...I just wish I could have taken her to A+P.
Leslie really cares about teaching and it shows in her innovative lectures and testing styles. She has creative examples, uses biology games for better retention of material, and makes an extra effort to make sure students are on track for success in this challenging course.
Lesley was very relate-able. She attempted to give great memorizing strategies, sometimes very humorous, but memorable. She lectured off of PowerPoint presentation that she posted prior to class. Tests were straight forward and she did not appear to want to trick you. Attendance is not mandatory, but HIGHLY recommended to get a good grade.
Great instructor, fun class. I have never laughed so much in school; very raunchy and free spirited. Class went over a lot of material, but very manageable. More concerned with students' understanding of big concepts vs small details. Real scientist, and has a lot of stories. Young, so she remembers well what it's like to be a student. She really cares about her students. Tests are friendly: you skip one question from each section. All in all, great teacher and not too difficult.

WONDERFUL professor, she is smart, fun, and I learned so much from her. She is very fair. Test come from lecture, so if you want a good grade you better go to class, she also give you large hints as to what will be on the tests. I wish I could have had her through the entire series! I would recommend her over the 4 other bio teachers I've had a PCC
Leslie is super funny and makes class fun. Her test are probably on the easier side. Leslie has a sarcastic sense of humor and is pretty laid back. Leslie is probably one of the best bio 112 teacher pcc has to offer. Dedicated to her students and even creates potluck pre- exam study groups that she attends and goes over exam. Take her if you can!
Do not let the negative comments fool you! Leslie is a great professor, and I wished I had taken all my biology classes with her. In fact, I took her during summer term and she was so helpful and kind. Her lectures are pretty straightforward and is willing to help you after class. Exams are fair and you must study. I will be taking her next term!
Leslie is the best teacher I have had at PCC. She is funny, down to earth, and an extremely good teacher. She brings things down to your level so it is understandable. 112 is a hard, fast-paced biology class, but she makes it fun to go to lecture. I learned so much from Leslie and only wish she was teaching A&P.
Leslie is personable and funny so if you want to hear stories about her, her husband and her kid, she's great. However, she spends a lot more time talking about herself then talking about the material. Luckily she's easy and will tell you what is on the exams so she doesn't need to explain much in class.
Leslie is a very nice women, and definitely knowledgable in her area of expertise. I enjoyed the class structure, and her enthusiasm for her subject definitely shows. I think she's still developing as an educator and doing her best to improve.
Disorganized, rude, unprofessional. Told the class on multiple occasions she was in a "bad mood" and was teaching "too many classes this term". Students were mocked for asking questions so they eventually stopped. Tried multiple times to meet with her but she was too disorganized to meet with me. Would never take her again.
Instructor was rude on several occasions to me when trying to ask questions or ask for help. Would only read from her prepared slides then talk about her family and college days. I ended up spending more time learning from YouTube videos then I did from class. If you are a lab science person I recommend if not pick a diff teacher.
I had a lot of fun in her class. She's very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Def take her if you can get in.
She's a great teacher because she really cares about her students. I recommend not buying the book and printing out her lectures and taking a ton of notes. Her tests are hard but very similar to her quizzes. I wouldn't say she's easy but she's really transparent. Who cares about her personality. She prepared me for nursing school. I recommend her.
Leslie is an incredible teacher and will bend over backwards to help you and is very organized. You get all of the lecture notes up front. You know exactly what to expect on her tests and quizzes. She is also a very dynamic teacher and keeps you engaged in the lectures. She makes sure you really know and understand the info. Take her class!
Leslie is an incredible teacher and person. She is very organized and always available before and after class to assist in anyway. I like how she shares info about herself or experiences as it relates to the topic of study. I wish she was teaching microbiology at PCC because I would definitely take her again. The tote points are awesome!
Leslie is hilarious and you will not fall asleep in her class. She cares about her students and she is really personable. Some suggestions for success go to lecture take notes and find people to study with. Our class was really united and the class average was really high. She''s really tough but transparent and her exams are not tricky.
My only regret is that I can't take more classes from her. She's a hard worker and totally wants us to succeed. She's personable and funny. Go to her office hours. It's totally worth it. I highly recommend this teacher.
Leslie is a great teacher but get ready to work for it. Her exams are great where you can skip a few multiple choice questions. Her assignments are long but really help with exams. My only suggestion for her is to make sure people are not cheating because my class was full of them. I wish she was teaching A & P.
This woman encouraged me so much and she really changed my life. She helped me be a more confident person and to trust myself. There was only 10 people in the class and she got to know us all really well. I don't know what she's like with a large class but if you get to know her one on one, you will see what I'm talking about. A gem... Love!
Leslie is not only funny and amazing, she is also very helpful in and outside of class. She gives clear instructions, and if followed, you should get a good grade. Additionally, she has flexible office hours and refers you to some helpful Biology tutoring sessions. I would take her class again if I could!
I'm in graduate school right now and Leslie is still one of the best teachers I've ever had. She gets really emotionally invested in her students and if you get to know her, she will always be there for you even when you leave PCC. I've emailed her a number of times for encouragement. She's a tough sassy lady with a big personality. Love her!
Leslie is amazing. Extremely down to earth. One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is extremely funny and relates the most difficult subjects to simple everyday things.
She is a great teacher, she makes the lectures fun and is very helpful.
I took this class over the summer and it was a condensed 8 week class. Leslie was extremely accommodating, fair, funny and helpful. There is room for improvement, as she is new to teaching this class, but she was open to it and welcomed feedback and suggestions. She really cares about me and my future goals. Leslie is solid teacher and good peeps.
Leslie is an awesome prof, the best I've had in my three years here as a part-time student. She is smart but also able to explain complex lessons in a way that's easy to understand and remember. You can tell she is passionate about biology and really cares about us and our learning. I wish all of my other profs cared this much!
Mrs. Leslie's class was straightforward. Student's only complain when they haven't studied enough. If you study her lecture notes, you won't even need the book. I never cracked it open and got an A. If you play close attention, you will notice that her exams are taken from the quizes. Easy A. Just study and don't procrastinate or you won't make it.
Leslie is a great instructor both in lab and lecture. She makes her expectations clear and really helps you work through challenges. She keeps it real and lightens the mood with humor, but also creates a strong learning environment. She is a genuinely rad person and I recommend her class!
Awesome teacher! I took bi101 with her so I know what to expect. She lets us skip a few questions on exams. She's really funny. I highly recommend.
Leslie is a great teacher and makes her class a pleasure to take. You gives you all the tools necessary to succeed and as long as you study her lectures and pay attention to her study guides, this is an easy A!!! Class was enjoyable and Leslie explains things in manor I feel everyone can understand!!
Leslie is intelligent and really knows what she's talking about. She lightens up the class with her humor. She doesn't assign too much homework but the material she does give is helpful. If you pay attention in class and take notes, you won't need your book too much. I highly reccommend taking a class with her as your professor!
Brings great energy to lecturing and is good at communicating concepts in depth from understanding. Goes through overall structure of deeper course material effectively, touching upon important points along the way. Assignments are enough to pass the tests because they're very well designed. Tests are clear. Leslie is fair, generous, and amazing.
Leslie puts in so much work to support students' success. You have to commit real study time -- it is well worth it. Lab felt choppy, maybe also because it was a condensed summer course. Very funny, very approachable, very interesting and field 347experienced. All in all more generous to students than she has to be.
I've been taking science classes for so many years but she was literally the BEST teacher I've ever had. Leslie makes you feel respected and comfortable in her class so that you can focus on learning materials without being stressed out during the exams. I strongly recommend her to those who are overwhelmed with studying biology (including me). Wish I could take her for all my bio classes.
LOVE LOVE LOVE This is my favorite teacher of all time. She not an easy A by an means, you have to do the work to get the A which I can respect. But she takes time to help her student learn, and she is fair. I've learned so much I hope she doesn't leave PCC until after I do. Love ya Leslie
I tried this class with a different instructor and felt hopeless, but with Leslie she has made this so topic so clear! Her lectures are fantastic and she truly cares about her whole class succeeding every step of the way. She is always available after class as well.
A hard class for sure but Leslie is SO amazing and she is the most fair teacher I have ever had (extra credit, extensions, testing format, ect) She can be a bit moody at times but her good days make up for it! Take her and her lab you will not regret it!!
I LOVE HER!! SO much. Such a caring, funny and sweet person, on top of being a genuine teacher who actually wants her students to LEARN and KNOW the material. One of my favorite people ever haha. The class is VERY hard, and i dedicated hours a day to get an A in that class. She will motivate you, such a great person and fun class.
Leslie reads off her powerpoints each class (which can be accessed online too) so it makes it hard to want to show up to class since she never takes attendance. Quizzes were online. She was very clear about HW due dates and how/ what to study for tests. Textbook isn't necessary since all the info you need to know is on the powerpoint slides. Easy A
I'm not Science minded, with that said, Leslie is a good teacher. She gives you what you need to pass but it's still Up To You to put in the effort. Attendeance was not mandatory, this is good because I studied at night and didn't worry about having to attend each class. Since classes were mainly lectures. She's available after class and hilarious
Leslie is so funny and she does a great job of making learning fun. She is clear about grading and the lectures are lengthy but they have so much information and she is clear about what will be on the test. She also gives lots of papers she doesn't grade, but they're specifically for you to study. If you do the work, and attend you'll get an A!
At first I thought she would be a boring teacher but she's not. She's caring and really listens to her students. She ask for feedback from students and the great thing is that most of the way she teaches or gives out materials are from actual students ideas and opinions. If you try in her class you will get the grade you deserve.
Leslie was great in class. She made the time go by quick by keeping us interested and on our toes. You never know what jokes she may throw at you. She is a fun person and a great teacher. She loves answering questions and keeps engaged with the students.
Amazing. Engaging, funny, genuine about wanting her students to succeed. Generous with her time. I felt she was incredibly dedicated to her class. I would take her for any class. She puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand the topic. If you can take a class from her do it!
Leslie was a great instructor for a class that was super tough. She was very willing to help a student in need, also explained material so well that it was simple to catch on quick. Quizzes were about every 2 weeks online and only 3 exams through out. I would definitely recommend Leslie for Bio.
I would take Leslie for all of my BIO classes, but too bad she only teaches some level. Leslie is funny, caring, and easygoing. She gave extra credits, and replacement assignments and it actually saved me this term. 100% would recommend her.
Leslie is a great teacher overall. She is caring and provides you with all you need to pass, either take it or leave it for last minute and not pass. Be ready to read before coming in class because she is great at reviewing so it sticks to you and you learn. Con: she can be super busy, and leave things last minute, so prepare your self.
I love Leslie, she really cared about all of her students. She provides many resources to study from when exams come around and she had great lectures that made me really interested in biology. I wish she taught the higher level bio classes too.
I Loved having Leslie as my lecture instructor. Unfortunately, I didn't have her as my lab instructor as well which I regret. But regardless I enjoyed attending her class she has a great way of explaining things, and I love her analogies. She's a step above the rest I would recomend her ten fold.
Leslie is amazing! I am not a science savvy person, but she made the material easy to grasp and was ready to help whenever I needed some extra help. She is very accommodating and easy to approach if you need any clarification about the material. She is the only science teacher I will ever take!
If you actually want to learn biology take her! She is nothing if not fair and hilarious to boot! She really does care about her students both personally and about whether or not they learn the material. She is a real gem. Cannot recommend her enough, unless you don't want/need to learn the material.
Leslie is the best professor I have ever had. She is one of the rare ones that actually CARES about her students. I never missed a class simply because I truly enjoyed her lectures and labs. As long as you are doing you're part and studying, paying attention in class and asking questions you'll do great. She also provides a ton of extra credit!
Excellent professor for Bi 112. The class has a ton of material and many quizzes + tests so requires a lot of studying, but she offers a lot of EC that caters to a different learning style (requires a deep understanding of the material). I'd suggest doing all of them regardless of whether you think you need them. Also drops lowest quiz grades.
Pros: If you put in the effort, study and go to lecture/lab, you will do well in this class. She posts recordings of her lectures online, PowerPoint slides, active learning packets, study guides and Jeopardy games. Shes a funny lecturer and entertaining. Shes fair and experienced. Cons: Isnt always on schedule and isnt good at hiding emotions.
Hybrid class feels as though she doesn't really care to teach. She is very passive aggressive and it is kind of intimidating and rude. She is super funny, but it doesn't make up for the amount of work you have to do by yourself. Lab is super great and effective. Make sure to pay attention.
Shes very fair and accommodating. She posts videos of her lectures online. Make sure that you put in your calendar when quizzes start and end because they are online. If you put in the effort and does what she says, you will do well. This was my first bio class in 10 years and I did great.
One of the best professors Ive had. She has a lot of interesting anecdotes that really added to the lectures and helped me remember the content for exams and projects. She also is really great at answer questions if you need clarification she really makes sure you understand before moving on.
I took her hybrid class and it was a waste of time. she did not care to teach and told everyone to teach themselves on their own time and the days that we were there were for any questions we had only. she was so impolite people did not even want to ask questions. she gets frustrated easily.
I had her during the COVID spring 2020 online quarter. She only had like a week to put everything together and it was such a great class. She is very understanding and pulled through for us. I recommend her during the COVID quarters and and any other quarter.
Leslie is great if you have a background in biology. She is very easily annoyed with questions she deems stupid. She is entertaining but can be condescending and rude. Doesn't hide her annoyance well at all. Very smart and knowledgeable but again, can be very rude and call you out in front of class.
Leslie was a great professor. The class was hybrid and was very organized with both the online and in-person aspect of the class. She was very helpful in lab and graded work quickly. I recommend her.
