Professor Collins is great!
Professor Collins has a very good teaching style that not only keeps your attention but inspires one to try even harder. She keeps the class mood light and upbeat, but demands your attention and participation (as should any good professor). I would recommend Professor Collins to anyone who wants to learn about communication.
very nice and helful.
Ms. Collins is Very detail oriented, she gives groups discussions throughout the lecture and then constantly tells you how man second you have left to talk. I found this class annoying and frustrating. The journals she assigns seem pointless and she is a hard grader. Not a class I would do again.
class is very easy, follow EXACTLY what she says and what the outlines say and it will be an easy A. Shes a lil obsessed with "the office" but it doesnt hurt anyone. REALLY EASY CLASS as long as you show up nd follow directions, i cant imagine how anyone could fail..Just **** tha speeches nd ur good if u follow the outlines
Took her last semester. Very, very organized and gives clear, detailed instructions. Two speeches, group presentation, twenty page journal (that's a composition book), midterm and final. She makes you work for it, but she is an great teacher if you're onboard for the workload. I'd consider taking her again.
She is very anal. She will is extremely particular about everything, she is not very approachable as she has a very picky set of instructions that must be followed step by step for her to answer questions for you. Fairly easy, but probably my least favorite teacher I have ever had
Do yourself a favor, do Not take Leslie Collin's class. She's a tough grader and totally unhelpful, you send her an email or ask a question in class, and all she says look in the module. Takes forever to reply to emails too... I Never comment on teachers but I had to warn future students to avoid her, because no one did for me.
Collins is a great teacher, very clear about what she expects of her students and takes the time to make clear and easy to follow lectures. Lots of group activites, it's fun when you have a friend to take it with you if you're shy. PRACTICE your speeches and you'll do just fine and you'll enjoy yourself.
Mrs. Collins is awesome. I am so glad I had her as my teacher. She is a bit strict and can't take some jokes, but she is really cool. She loves "The Office" and the 49ers, so talk about those 2 things and you can get her going for days. I highly recommend taking this teacher if you want someone that cares about your grade.
I've never felt so awful about getting a B. As a person with a learning disability, I had difficulty with her instructions and found her to be dismissive when asking for help, as if I wasn't trying hard enough or was using my disability as an excuse. Beware your analysis doesn't align with hers. She broke my straight A streak in my final semester.
Excellent teacher, she makes speech class fun! She helps students get over their fear of public speaking and teaches you exactly how to write a speech! I recommend her to anyone who has to take any speech class!
Great Professor has the ability to make difficult concepts become clear. Very attentive to her students needs. Highly recommend any of her courses!
This teacher was SOO helpful! She explains everything in plain English & answers any questions very well. Totally recommended. There are a lot of speeches, but what else can you expect in a Speech class? She is very also very fair with her grading and gives plenty of resources to refer to. She uses blackboard to keep the class well updated, too.
If you go every day, read your book, and listen and be active in class, you will get an A. She isn't difficult, but she does have a way of running her classroom that you must follow. I recommend her.
I took public speaking and she has a way of making some of the most nervous students feel comfortable when they are getting ready to speak. I did public speaking before her class and I feel like I still improved and learned alot because of her!! Awesome teacher :)
Simply amazing. The most rewarding start to my college experience I could have asked for. If you like to give speeches you'll love this class. If you hate to give speeches you'll love this professor and by the end of the course you probably won't hate speeches as much. She involves the students in her lecturesand uses a variety of styles. Recommend
Leslie is a very young, well dressed, and smart professor. She is a tad strict and doesn't like distractions but she has a way of making class just fly by with her fun group activites. You get to analyze movies and tv shows in this class too. She has an awesome sense of humor and a great personality! Very reccomended!
She is a wonderful teacher! She helped me become much less nervous than I was before taking her class. She is a great help and has interesting assignments. She is a bit of a tough grader though. Besides that I enjoyed her class very much (for a speech class:p).
Good Class,Good Teacher but she grades very hard and you have to make sure you turn everything in or else you'll get a complete ZERO. Quite personally to me she grades to hard I wouldn't recommend anyone taking her class if you can't keep up with all of the work.
I have to say that I was very nervous going into this class. But as time passed by, I found it to be a lot easier than I thought! Professor Collins is very helpful to all of her students, and is understanding of any speech anxiety. I have to say that her class turned out to be a lot better then I thought. Highly recommend her. :)
Awesome the best ever!!!!!!!!!
Mrs Collins was an excellent teacher. She lets you know what she expects of you upfront. She likes to have her class do a lot of impromptu speechs which is good. It prepares you for your two big speechs. She makes the class a lot of fun. Don't miss a speech day though, if you don't have a dr's note you can only get half credit on make-up day.
Took a little bit for me to get used to her style. You do need to read the book in order to the homework and in class work, but it's not heavy duty reading. Do the work the way she asks and it's good for studying as you go. She's very approachable and quite helpful if you go to office hours. No killer final.
Excellent teacher all around. Smart, funny, got class engaged in conversation. I was friends with every student in that class once it was over.
Hybrid class was easy enough for a public speaking class. Not easy, not difficult. Leslie is very approachable and helpful.
Leslie is an amazing teacher! She makes everything easy to understand and keeps the class focused and entertained. Three tests, two speeches and you do a group project as your final. She gives you a study guide before tests with everything you need to know. She also offers tons of extra credit. I would definitely take her class again!
Super easy hybrid class, I thought it was going to be more difficult but it was pretty easy! Take Collins you will not regret it
Hybrid. I was really nervous to take this class because I hate public speaking but she makes it easy now. She is very professional and knows her material. Class environment is relaxed. hard weekly quizzes online. very helpful, she will go out of her way to clarify things for you. She cares about her students and wants you to succeed. Take her!!
Amazing teacher! Easy to follow, keeps class entertained, funny and really nice. One of the best teachers to take, hihgly recommend Professor Collins! Her final is a fun group project. TAKE HER CLASS!
Smokin' Hot.
Good teacher. Clear, easy to understand and very helpful when you ask for it. She utilizes a lot of technology in her lectures and homework which is interesting. Some issues were that some of the assignments felt more like busy work than were crucial to the understanding the material. Syllabus and schedule is a bit complex.
Leslie is by far my favorite COMM professor at MJC. She is very clear and concise of her expectations. She is helpful, cheerful, and clearly enjoys her job. Put in a little effort and read assigned readings and you will have no trouble with her class.
Leslie is a very enthusiastic teacher, she makes public speaking approachable and gives you great feedback on your speeches. Her speech topics are fun and she makes it great experience. She's fun, nice, and always grades coursework promptly.
Professor Collins is very sweet but she tries way to hard for a general ed class. She grades you on every single little detail, including what you wear for speeches. Her speech topics require more work than necessary. Online quizzes are difficult. Lots of work for a general ed class. I thought her class would be easy but it turned out to be tough.
3 speeches overall. This isn't like a normal speech class. All lectures and reading were online and groupspeech projects were done in class. Do the work assigned completely and put effort into it. She does a few mini speeches. Every week there were lectures and quizzes. The quizzes were kinda hard. Make sure to read before taking them.
I loved Leslie! She is one of those always happy and sweet professors. She truly cares about her students and her class. Her lectures and clear and organized, but a tad useless because it repeats everything that was in the assigned reading. She makes the class fun and go by fast. Speech days are smooth, and she makes you feel at ease.
Came into communications dreading this class, took the 8 week course and absoutely loved it ! she is an amazing teacher. The work in class and test were easy! she made it a fun subject and you can tell she loves teaching this subject!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Now looking into her other comm classes
I took this class as an 8 week class and it was one of the best classes I have taken. professor Collins is great! she is patient with the students and very flexible as well. she keeps the class entertained and the lectures are never boring. Learned a lot and an easy grade.
It was a 8 week course and can be overwhelming sometimes but she will help you every step of the way. She will have activities that will help you prepared for your speeches and gives great clear feedback on your work. The class was a lot of fun and I would definitely take it again. She is a great teacher to take for any public speaking class.
I have hated public speaking my entire life and by the end of the class she recommended me for the speech and debate team. Leslie Collins cares so much about her students and truly wants to ease the pain of public speaking. Passing the class is easy, but if you want an A there is a lot of reading and outlining.
Leslie is very sweet and I really enjoyed the class. Tests were a little challenging but nothing that can't be thoroughly studied for. Great class environment.
Amazing teacher! She has weekly modules. You can take the weekly quizzes up to three times for the best grade. Puts you in groups to get to know your classmates which makes the speeches less intimidating. She is a sweetheart! I recommend taking Leslie. Easy A just do your work.
Professor Collins is the BEST speech professor. She gives clear instructions as to what is expected for your assignments. Three speeches were assigned throughout the semester. She gives great feedback and lets you know what is needed to improve in the class. The speeches are very easy and somewhat fun.
Professor Collins or Leslie is GREAT!! She's hands down my favorite professor because she takes time to make sure you understand the material, she has your best interest at heart and she's understanding! I took both Comm 102 and Comm 133 with her and she made Comm so interesting I'm thinking about minoring in it.
Had fun while learning. She a really good teacher and doesn't play games unlike other departments do ....
Super nice. Easy on Grading, only 3 speeches, and most of the work you do at home on your laptop.
Collins is very sweet and cares about every student. She wants you to succeed. Although I usually hate public speaking and sucked at it, I can say that because of her class I am a lot more confident! She does not intimidate you whatsoever which makes the class very relaxed. If you get a chance to take her, do it! It will benefit you!
Fantastic.
L. Collins is a very peppy teacher. She has that sparkle in her eye and attitude to see students succeed! The feedback is not only from her but your peers to and it is legit, 100% helpful. She talks to everyone on a relate-able level and will drop everything to help an individual student out! BONUS: Textbook is free and online!
Ms. Collins is an amazing instructor! She genuinely cares for the success of her students. There's weekly quizs and surveys you have to take online, but if you do the work in the modules, you should pass! Try not to skip class, you'll miss out on extra detail about assignments and participation points!
Professor Collins is a wonderful caring person and you can tell that she is passionate about public speaking. There is a textbook used but it's free online. You read about a chapter a week which isn't too bad. You can tell who worked hard on their speeches and who didn't so just try, it isn't really that hard, and PRACTICE!
Prof. Collins is one of the most passionate professors that I have ever met. She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She has motivated me to do better. She gives great feedback and advice and I am glad that I got a chance to taker her class. I was really bad at public speaking before but I have improved so much because of her.
I recommend her to the fullest! I'm not the type of person to speak in front of a class but she guides you step by step to make sure your confident by the end of the semester :)
Take her, you won't be disappointed! She is funny, down to earth, and makes class very enjoyable. Not that hard, just do your quizzes and assignments and you will be fine. She is not a tough grader, as long as y try, you will do good.
captivating teacher! She really makes the class fun, and actually makes public speaking less scary. I've taken 2 of her classes, and wish that she taught more courses!
Amazing instructor! This was hybrid class and the f2f classes were great! Leslie takes a speech class and creates it in a way that anyone can succeed; she introduces the student to speaking with baby steps! In addition she bases her speech class off of normal life situations where speeches are needed. Wonder class!
Easy class if you pay attention to the directions and put in the work. 3 major speeches and online homework just a quiz on reading and a survey due every Sunday. I'm not confident in public speaking but I got a good grade and tried hard. There are a couple extra credit opportunities. forms groups with peers to help you succeed and get feedback.
She's so understanding, if you are scared to speak in front of an audience, she helps you out with great step by step process to overcome your fear. I totally recommend her.
Wow! Professor Collins is such an amazing instructor. Not only does she really work with you to bring your public speaking anxiety down, there is ONLY 3 SPEECHES IN HER HYBRID CLASS. Highly recommend.
Only two speeches all semester! She really cares about students, honestly easy A if you do your work according to how she likes. Also she supplies textbook which is really nice.
Professor Collins really has a way of making students comfortable to get up and speak. Also, I highly recommend her hybrid class. I must say, she does grade hard on the persuasive speech at the end. If you make the effort to present your speeches you'll be set in this class. If you're nervous to speak I really suggest taking this class with her.
Professor Collins has a very sweet personality which is definitely reassuring when it comes to these kinds of classes. She's very understanding and as long as you put effort into the class you'll get an A. There's many extra credit opportunities and the textbook is free! I 100% recommend her hybrid class if you're scared of public speaking.
Never liked presenting but she made it easier. I took her hybrid class and f2f was only one a week. Weekly homework with heavy reading but not hard. Go to class for easy points. Only 2 of her speeches were actual presentations for us.
By far one of my favorite profs. Due to being a hybrid, do NOT miss class. Although I received an A, if I worked a tad bit harder & didn't go on vacation, I woulda got an A. NO tests, only small quizzes online. Only 2 big speeches, super easy. Awesome attitude, very charismatic. Super understanding and easy grader. Ex credit opportunity as well.
Stick with her and she'll make your efforts worth it! Great professor overall. Understanding and very supportive.
I took her hybrid class and overall the class was pretty simple and to the point. Shes very clear as to what she expects and gives amazing feedback. I would definitely take another one of her classes!
Leslie was kind, and pretty easy going .Just make sure to do your work and try your best and she will like you.
I absolutely LOVE Professor Collins. I took her online comm104 (argumentation) then followed up with a hybrid comm100 (public speaking). She really takes the time to get to know students and cares so much that you succeed. She makes you feel so comfortable before, during, and after speeches. Gives amazing feedback on assignments, speeches, etc.
Awesome lady, awesome professor. She is a tough grader on speeches... so if you really need an A (i.e. nursing MSPAR), just make sure to attend all lectures because she gives free participation points, and complete all quizzes and surveys. Such a sweet person and a joy to work with.
She was a great teacher and would recommend to everyone. You do three speeches throughout the year and her textbook is online. She cares about each and every student and will answer any question you have. You take a quiz every week online and if you don't stay on top of them don't expect to have a good grade. Also puts you into groups for support.
Leslie is gem and, hands down the best prof I have had at MJC. She is a tough grader and you need to earn your A. She connects with her students and treats us like adults. She can maintain order in her classroom, without being harsh . She is upfront about her policies and availability. If public speaking scares you, this is the prof to take.
Leslie is the best teacher I ever took. She is so friendly and caring. She keeps smiling all the times. To get an A in her class, go to class and do everything the way she tells you. Overall, she makes the class so interesting. Hats off to her hard work and passion. I was so afraid of public speaking but, this class helped me a lot. I recommend her
Leslie was the sweetest teacher ever, she was very understanding and really personal. This was a communication class so it was nerve racking having to talk in front of people but she made it very easy and helped break my nerves.
Professor Collins was an awesome teacher. She's funny and makes class enjoyable. Easy to understand and more than willing to help through email or office hours. Book was online and she made speeches easy and not so nerve-racking.
I think like everyone... I hate public speaking so I wasn't looking forward to taking this class. I'm so glad I took it with Leslie though. She's a fair grader and she's super sweet and energetic. Love her! You just have to present two speeches in her class & three very short impromptu speeches (I'm talking seconds). I totally recommend her class
There is nothing bad I can say about Professor Collins. I have extreme social anxiety! Take her, you won't regret it! I looked forward to weekly classes which is very odd for me. She is so caring and really wants you to suceed. She makes you feel comfrotable and does groups so everyone gets to know each other, this makes speeches so much easier!
LOVED Collins as my public speaking teacher! I have heard horror stories about other professors so I was nervous about taking this class but I am so glad I did it with her! She is one of the best teachers at MJC for sure! Take her if you can guys! Seriously!
For a public speaking hating student like myself, ending up in a class with Mrs. Collins was a miracle! She practically wraps you up in a warm hug before, during, and after your speeches, so you hardly have time to fee bad about your performance. She's a genuinely AMAZING human and professor. Participate! Go to class! Do the work! You'll pass.
Leslie is really awesome at making sources available to you & helpful for you to pass this class. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR SUCCESS TEAMS! Ours really motivated each other to succeed & stay on course to pass especially when things got rough/tiresome. She's very understanding & caring she wants you to grow/succeed and always willing to schedule meeting
There was quite a bit of homework since it was an online class, but professor Collins is perhaps the most caring I have had at Modesto Junior College. She would frequently post resources for students and was understanding if a situation would arise. I highly recommend her!
Professor Collins was so sweet and understanding in the semester I had. She made the environment very welcoming and safe, which can be hard to do considering this is a public speaking class. I was calmer than I was while normally giving speeches because she helped so much with the fears of public speaking. I would definitely recommend her class!
She's absolutely one of the best there is in the communications department. Taking a COMM class primarily to graduate for most is never easy. Nobody likes public speaking as much as the next person because you always fear to mess up. Her genuine feeling of understanding and welcome presence are two instrumental traits that help majorly in COMM.
Her class was rather easy. The only reason why I got a C in the class was because I was slacking off, and was working full time and taking 18 credits. Her class is fun to take and she cares a lot about her students. If you time yourself right and do the homework on time and the work you will easily get a good grade in class.
Professor Collins was amazing. I've been avoiding comm 100 since I first came to MJC. She made me feel confident in every speech from her giving great feedback from her one to one appointments. Leslie truly wants everyone to succeed and become an efficient public speaker. I am confident in my communication abilities due to her.
Professor Collins is a great instructor who really wants her students to succeed. Argumentation was one of the more difficult Communication classes I have taken but she was so great with clarifying topics. Gives good feedback on assignments. Would recommend to take for any Communication classes.
She is extremely passionate about what she is teaching, and really wanted students to succeed. However, I felt like it was WAY too much reading (multiple books). Tests were extremely difficult and no multiple tries. She was frustrated with a class assignment nobody understood, and "just didn't know why." Hint, if everyone bombed it, question that.
Professor Collins is extremely difficult. There are hours worth of reading every week, and her quizzes are very hard. I did not enjoy how slowly she grades assignments. It's finals week, she didn't give us anything to review, and she still hasn't graded 2 assignments worth 50 pts each when the final is 62 pts.
Prof Collins is a caring person but I did not like the fact that all of her lectures in canvas were just videos from youtube she didn't make and textbook reading. I just felt that she could've taught the class better. She def wants you to be a better public speaker but I was so frustrated throughout this whole semester.
I am so grateful and have so much appreciation for Professor Collins! I came into her class expecting to be an absolute flop since I have such a huge fear of public speaking, but she made us feel so comfortable and confident. She gives great, personalized feedback and I am now much more confident in my abilities.
Really hard quizzes! There is so much reading and so many concepts you have to learn in each reading. She only gives 8 minutes for 10 really hard questions! The questions on the quiz take about 1 minute to read because their so long, and by the time you grasp what the questions saying 2 minutes have passed and you end up having to guess at the end
Professor Collins is really nice and very comforting but I cried so much due to this class. Two speeches are performed in class. Although that doesn't sound too bad, the amount of reading from the textbook we had to do was shocking. I spent so many hours reading for this class and after you take a quiz. There is a midterm and the final is optional.
Professor Collins, if you are reading this, I love you! You're such a wonderful teacher. But there is an absurd amount of reading and memorization of concepts that, if I'm being honest, I didn't use the entire semester and still did great on my speeches. So much of the material is repetitive. The modules should be opened up way earlier in the week.
She gives a lot of the articles to read about the same subject but different writers. It gets very boring with the same information and her quizzes are hard to get good grades on. You have to memorize the word for word definition on things.
Very helpful if you had trouble with a concept. The quizzes are timed so its best to take notes as you read to get a better score. The workload was reasonable and the textbook was provided in the chapters which was great. Everything is due on Fri night 2 wks after the module opens but she has a 48hr grace period in case you need it.
She was not my favorite. My STEM classes are easier.
She is an easy teacher, At times she can be lazy and her grading is inconsistent, also only talk about topics from the angle in which she is personally ok with and it an easy A.
I really enjoyed Mrs. Leslie's class, this class was one of the more difficult Com classes I have taken but I really felt like it strengthened my communication skills. She cares about the quality of our writing, so I value her feedback on my assignments. Always read the textbook and look at the student examples for writing assignments provided.
I took her for my fall semester, and she was great. I was able to learn about argumentation, without having any struggles, and worrying about the amount of HW given.
If you are looking for a comms prof. she is incredible. She makes the class fun and takes special interest in each one of her students speeches. You can tell that she cares for the success of her students and genuinely wants to help them. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and I am now planning on getting a comms certificate because of her. Thank you.
The best professor I've had. She helped me unlock talents and figure out what I want to do as a career
COMM100 with Professor Collins can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helped me stay on top of the material. Though the workload is heavy, her feedback is invaluable for improving public speaking skills.
Professor Collins is a very nice lady and a wonderful person. I wasn't a fan of her teaching style, she should teach the class and not just assign YouTube videos. Class is easy to pass as long as you show up and put a mild amount of effort into the speeches.
My class was online and her modules were easy to access and her material were clear to understand. She even offers a question section in each module in which she will respond with a voice message so that she can explain it in full for you. Her scoring/quizzes are a little hard but if you do the work, and keep up with the material, you'll pass.
She is caring, kind, and gives you lots of good feedback on your speeches and assignments. It is a mandatory attendence day when it is a speech day. The textbook is free and you can always look back at it for a later class. Make sure to turn in your work on time as everyday it is late it is 25% of the grade taken off. She really makes speaking fun.
I'm not sure what people are seeing in her. World's strictest teacher when it comes to grading. The only nice thing is the extra credit because she knows people need it to pass the class. Miss one assignment whole letter grade goes down DONT TAKE HER
