very nice teacher, do the work and you will get the marks. She is very helpful
Very nice and approachable. Class is not bad, but attendance is a must. Pop quizzes suck but they are common in her class. Show up, do the readings and you'll do fine.
what a waste of time. she failed me so many time. i thought i was doing a good job. would go to her for help for essays-she would fix things up if needed- gave me hope. and then still failed me. geeeezzz. and those stupid pop quizes. and she puts on an accent sometimes when reading poems..pretty sad
You wanna write a 3000 word essay .. sign yourself up! If you don't care about how much your GPA will drop.. hop on board!! Wanna try to memorize the background and analysis of over 100 readings.. join the party!!! HALF the class failed/dropped out midway.. need I say more !?
plays favorites, and if you dont talk in class she isnt a fair marker.essays are brutal and readings are long and boring.midterm was death-good portion of the class dropped out.boring lectures.laughs at her own jokes(which arent even jokes)not funny!isnt engaging at all.must know all readings inside out for exams.pop quizs are brutal.dont get her
Ya she gives a pretty brutal class average, work your ass off to get an average grade or slack and fail. A nice teacher but isnt always clear on what she expects of your work. Always gives enough time for assignments and will help you review your work... which you will definatly need to take advantage of to get a decent mark.
real good prof. but you need to work real hard. I took this course over the summer and did really really well. so my advice, talk to her a lot, go ask for help with essays, participate in class, and you will do fine
This prof is an awesome English teacher. She explains what she wants for the essays, clearly outlines marking schemes and exam formats, and is always available outside of class for extra help. Although the class is NOT easy, she does teach it well, and all of the readings she gives connect together. Showing up for class is important.
She's an awesome teacher. I agree, she's difficult, but you get what you work for (if you work). Her tests are difficult, but she can also be very fair with her marking. I have improved from being in her class.
Oh Goodness. If you want to be have your GPA lowered while taking an easy class, go with her. Her lectures are irrlevant, her class is a snoozer, and her tests/essays are brutal.
I created this account just to rate this prof. I got a bad grade in her class but I could not tell you why, even after several meetings. Her comments on papers tell you nothing. For the final we were asked to identify 5 passages from anything we covered that year (we covered over 70 and only about 7 were novels/plays). If you have her good luck.
Excellent prof. Enjoyed the class, and finally a decent sample (though still small) of poetry. Why do English profs seem to avoid poetry?
this prof will help you with your paper and say you will do fine and then still fail you on the paper. I thought i was an idiot for doing this terrible in this class, but judging by everyone elses comments im not alone.
Grrrreaat! Dr. Robertson is one of the most enthusiastic and engaging lecturers I've had in my years at the U. Though it's not a cakewalk, it's not impossible to do well in her class; the key is to pay attention, take lots of notes, and ask questions if you need clarification! She was always more than happy to help me out. Two big thumbs up!
be prepared to work hard, and then have nothing to show for it. The amount of reading is impossible to keep up with. Essays and exams are hard, even when you consult with her you will still be left in the dark because it is impossible to know what she wants. If you can't avoid her show up to class and take lots of notes and become a favorite!!
Some of you really should have some cheese with all that wine. Dr. Robertson really knows her stuff. A tough class, sure. Fair with out question!! Keep up with the readings and take good notes, pay attention in class and listen to her advice, and DO THE WORK! If you follow all of this you will do well! She is easy on the eyes too!
Dr. Robertson has excellent teaching skills but is not the type of person to cut you any slack. Her marking is very strict and she is not willing to take any excuses so if you want to be in her class. Make sure to never mess up as she will not let you off for it even if she knows that you are a hard working student.
yowza!
Boring ! Pop quizzes suck. It's impossible to keep up with her reading load. Half of the class drop-out. Basicly, get away from her.
Wow, what a class. The work load can be daunting, but what do you expect for a summer course. Take a year and cram it into a couple of weeks I mean what do you expect? Dr. Robertson's interest and dedication to the class and subject make it worth while. She has made this unfortunate time schedual doable and interesting and ejoyable.
Took it over the summer. A lot of work, but the texts were varied, and the lectures were pretty clear. I honestly didn't have much of a problem with grades. Just do the work, show up, answer a few questions, and she is available for help outside of class too.
Take good notes, throw everything you have learned in highschool about essay writing out the window and read. She usually throws out a pop quiz the day a gigantic assignment is due.
not reccomended, only for those that believe their english is perfect.
Dr. Roberston is probably one of the harder English Profs on campus, but she prepares you for senior level courses. Attend the class and do the readings. She is really helpful in preparing essays, so defs. go to her office hours. She has "pop" quizes and doesn't offer any re-writes, so make sure your essays are perfect! LOTS of poetry.
She's a keeper! Oh man she kills you on grammar but she's amazing!
don't take this class. she thinks everyone in the room has an english major and that english is the only course the students are taking on the whole term. lots of readings. jokes aren't funny. she basically wants her students to lock themselves up inside their houses and never go out. ever.
Dreaded this class like the plague - ended up loving it and poetry too. Robertson is a great prof who know her stuff. The class was a lot of work with readings and papers but doable. She was very helpful on assignments and gave constructive feedback. My papers improved 1000% and her class gave me confidence to write anything. A++++ prof!
wow what can I say, english. Very "full" class but very challening and interesting. She expects you to work in her class like any other prof! This is university now, get used to the work load or go home! I learned a lot here really recomended!!
Great Prof that loves what she does. Very sharp and well read. Big help outside of class and always willing to show you ways to improve your work. Marks fair. Do the readings, listen to what she says, take some notes, and learn grammar (it will seriously help your papers!), and you will do fine. Learned a lot in this class and highly recommend it!
I wouldn't recommend her. She's a tough marker that teaches boring concepts in class. If you like 18th century literature you'll love her.
great teacher, very enthusiastic and clearly enjoys what she teaches. not an easy marker but if you want to really learn how to write university quality papers, take this class.
I would not take a class with her ever again!! Her tests were hard and she marked them hard as well. Classes were fairly dull and she gave random quizzes that picked up random stuff from the readings. And she was very harsh with grammar and spelling a 10 page paper minus one percent for each mistake... not necessary. Don't take her!
Started out hating her, but its hard because she is soooo smart, really knows what she is talking about. You will work your butt off!! and She is an incrediblly hard marker so if you struggle with writitng I wouldnt suggest her class if you need a good GPA. She will take alll the time you need to help you though, and get help you will need it!
She was the most amazing English prof I have ever had. I improved a lot over the course of the year. Make sure to take notes during her classes and you'll ace the final. The papers are tricky but she is really helpful in her office hours. All in all, she is worth the work.
She marks essays kind of hard (she takes off a % for every grammar error), but she is willing to help you go over your drafts and points out flaws. Read all of the major texts as you get pop quizzes on them. There is TONS of poetry in this course. Overall she is a good prof that knows her stuff.
She was a marvelous teacher. The only one of my classes I enjoyed attending. Important to talk in her class so she knows that you are making an effort. Gets more attractive every class, must have something to do with how smart she is.
Her curriculum for ENGL 199 was probably the best one out of all sections this semester. All her quizzes & our midterm (grammar test) was open book because she believes that all good writers need resources :) There were 3 essays to be written and you always write drafts to bring into class for peer evaluation. She's a very enthusiastic teacher :)
If you want a good mark from this woman take these steps: 1. write a draft, don't waste too much time because your opinion doesn't matter. 2. Make an appointment with her. 3. Hand it over to her and have her change all the sentences and words to the ones she likes so that you can get a semi-good grade. She knows her stuff but is NOT creative.
Quite a bit of reading and she expects you to dedicate a considerable amount of time to the essays. She marks essays somewhat hard, but she will help you if you make an appointment with her. I found the class pretty demanding in terms of time and effort considering it's an English class. Don't take her class if English isn't your major.
this teacher is insane. gave me a failing grade when i tried twice as hard as i did in my last english class. that f looks great next to my 3.9 gpa in sciences. most underqualified prof at the entire university
Take her class! I'm no genius but if you put the effort in and go see her she will make sure your essay is written clearly and effectively. She will even edit some of it for you! Not hard to do well if you go see her. Participate in class because there is a high participation mark but thats free marks. Take her class!
By far the best English teacher I've ever had. There's a lot of reading, do it and you're fine. If you ask her for help on an essay, she will give you an impressive amount of feedback. Show up and answer some question and you get easy participation marks. I would recommend her to anyone!
Dr. Robertson made poetry so much easier. She motivated me to attend each class. Participation is crucial and going to see her during office hours is very helpful.
LOVELOVELOVE! She is the best englich instructor I've EVER had! She truly cares and is very passionate. Normally 1st eng is lame and no one cares but she sparked my interest and made want to write a good essay. She made grammar and poetry easier to understand. Knows her stuff WELL. LOVE!! And cute as a button~
Great prof. Her lectures are interesting to attend and connected all of the texts together with common issues raised in each text. On the essays make sure you really proof read for grammar, she will subtract a mark for each mistake but her comments are helpful if you are actually willing to improve your writing.
Dr. Robertson is fantastic! She makes the course work interesting. There is quite a bit of reading - which is what you would expect! This was the first uni english class and based off of what I heard on here I truly expected the worst, but she was considerate, understanding, extremely approachable. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
One of the best English teachers I have ever had! Makes the subject matter super interesting, almost decided to switch into an English degree from Engineering because of this class!
In the beginning, Dr. Robertson seemed like a good and nice teacher, it's true that she makes things interesting and I enjoyed listening to the lectures, but once I handed in my essay I could tell that she really did not like me, I went to ask for help and even suggested I should leave the class! Really hard marker people! Stay away from her!
Dr. Robertson is a great prof! Her lectures are super interesting, and the readings all connect together. If you need help she is super helpful!! Definitely recommend her! :)
Dr. Robertson was THE best professor I had at University. She made me enjoy English and understand grammar. I was tempted to switch my minor from Anthro to English because of her.
Dr. Robertson is a wonderful prof. She's very friendly and approachable. Her grading is quite fair, although she's tough on grammar, so watch out for that. Her classes are pretty engaging, and she gets you to do fun activities. Doesn't give much feedback on your writing, though, unless you go to her office. Overall, highly recommended.
Worst professor of my undergraduate career. Incredibly tough marker - she deducts 1% for every small grammatical and sentence structure error. She will not reply to your e-mails or answer requests for help if you do not participate in class. I'd gladly drop out of university than take another class with her. Avoid at all costs.
Great class, great prof. She is the most approachable prof I have ever had. Use her office hours, she will provide you with great criticism. Add to the class discussion once in a while and read the assigned readings. Though the mark deduction for grammatical errors was a pain, its easy to get a good mark if you put in the required effort.
Dr. Robertson makes English interesting; she goes into great depth and explains everything clearly. If you participate in discussions, you will understand the concepts. She is fair but definately not the easiest marker; she is super strict on grammar so watch out for that. Her class requires effort but good marks are not impossible.
She was really nice and willing to talk at any time. She looked over essays at students requests and handed assignments back promptly. One of the best english profs at the u of a!
She is an extremely nice and helpful prof and amazing lecturer. Very animated and interesting. However her marking is ridiculous. Im usually very good at english but I found it very very hard to get a good mark. Worst i've ever done in an english class. Too much emphasis on grammar and small details and not enough on larger ideas.
Amazing prof. I hate English and thoroughly enjoyed her course. She was really enthusiastic about everything, engaging her class. Also, she made the material we discussed very interesting. I highly recomment her. Really helpful, even makes it mandatory for you to submit a draft which she will look over with you, and guide you to be a better writer
Great prof, she has three novels on her reading list which seams like a lot for a first year class but they are all interesting and relate to the course. The essays are all worth a large portion of your mark which is a bit stressful. if ever your confused use her office hours, she is open to clarify whatever you need
The professor seems nice generally, but not very understanding when it comes to family emergencies. Hard to get a hold of and gives up on students easily. Not willing to help struggling students either.
Dr. Robertson is one of my favourite professors; she will challenge and inspire you as both a reader and writer. She begins the course by thoroughly explaining correct usage of grammar and sentence structure, and thereafter, she expects nothing less. She is a tough marker, docking 1% per grammatical error. Hard work will be rewarded with an A.
Robertson helped me out a lot whenever I needed it(I would always go into her office hours; However, be aware that she is not that responsive with emails). Although I didn't score a good grade in that class, I believe Robertson is a good at teaching and gets you well prepared for the final she makes (Short answer, essay, analysis of a poem)
One of the most passionate profs you will find. Class was always interesting and fun. I took this class to fulfil my course requirements and it was not easy. She marks ridiculously hard and docks off a mark for every small error. If you're looking for an easy A, not the prof for you but if you're looking to learn something then take this class.
Brutal. Seldom replies to emails. Huge deductions for grammatical errors, so much so that I spent more time worrying about the grammar in my papers than the actual arguments. Left the class feeling like an inadequate writer.
Dr. Robertson is a challenging professor as she deducts for every grammatical error. Although she's a harsh marker, she is an amazing lecturer. Lectures were amazing, and she clearly cared. Take her class if you want to actually improve on writing and are prepared to have your writing criticized. Coming to class every morning was an absolute joy!
An amazing prof. She is really helpful, and very fair in her grading. She expects you to put in the work. The topics covered in the class were super interesting, which was a pleasant surprise. She engages the class, and although her essay marking can be hard, she is more than willing to go over your work with you and make suggestions.
Dr. Robertson is one of the most enthusiastic professors that I have ever had. She assigns a heavy workload and marks essays fairly hard. However, she is never unfair with her marking and offers very good advice on how to improve. Dr. Robertson is an excellent professor; just be willing to put in the work!
She is a great lecturer but her way of teaching does not suit my tastes. I used to get As in English but her course seems so advanced that I did not do good in her essays, even though the quizzes were pretty straightforward.
Leslie's lectures are long and boring. She rambles on with little class discussion. If you like group work, this course isn't for you. Also this course with Dr. Robertson is barely "global". Her specialization is post colonialism and 17th century history or something like that. Also, she takes 15% off for grammar so a B- can become a C- easily.
She is a wonderful prof and I learned so much. I got an A in the class and I don't know why people are complaining so much about her. I took notes in every class and never even contributed to the discussions. We only had 2 papers and a final. The criteria was very clear for everything and her marking was very fair.
As interesting as her lectures were, it was nearly impossible to feel confident in your writing abilities. As a full time student and working full time, she made it very difficult to meet with her to discuss ways of improving, let alone her making the time to respond to emails. I would not recommend if you are not initially an expert writer.
She will break you down and absolutely make you a better writer. Her classes are challenging, the lectures are brutal, but you will leave more talented than when you first walked in. I do believe all English majors should take one of her classes. Everyone else, beware.
This class ranks as the worst English class that I have taken. If you find yourself to be a bit wordy, don't take this class. Even if your diction is correct, this professor will give you a bad grade because it (your diction) was complex. Overall, I would only recommend this class if you have a passion for literature and write in very simple words.
Her lectures were always interesting and went by fast for me even though it was an 8 am class. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours, and she's a nice lady. Coming out of high school I dreaded English, but it was actually one of my favourite classes this semester. I would definitely take her again if I could.
Amazing Prof! I took this class at 8 AM and didn't fall asleep once. Needless to say, she is very animated which kept me focused, and she layed out the material in the most clear way possible. Offered us a chance to consult with her on both essays and her comment helped a great deal. Highly Recommend!
Amazing prof! She was super vibrant and excited and you can tell she really cares and knows her stuff.
She inspired me to be really involved and get to know my professors. She really allowed me to see that professors are people too. I would highly recommend talking to her over the semester as this will not only get you on her good side, but you will make a wonderful friend/mentor.
The best prof I've had. Challenging, eloquent and incredibly knowledgable, but also incredibly understanding and there to help. Really helped reconnect me with school--very inspiring.
I love listening to her lectures. She's quite patient, helpful, and gives good feedback. Willing to work with you if you want help on any of your essays. Would love to have her again.
If you want to become a better writer, take her class. She'll really teach you how to improve your writing and rethink how you approach essays. Amazing lectures too. Totally worthwhile
The best professor I've ever had. She gives excellent feedback, cares about her students, cares about teaching, and makes English an enjoyable course to take. Take her courses, you won't regret it.
She grades really harshly so be prepared to get a bad grade if you make a small mistake here and there. Her feedback on papers isn't helpful at all either. READ your paper at least three times before you turn it in or you're in for a bumpy ride. Not an English major? No problem, she will just grade you twice as harder.
Couldnt have had a better first year English prof. She thoroughly explains everything and her expectations are super clear. Shes almost always available outside of class for extra help and shes just all around a really sweet person.
Dr. Robertson is willing to put in the work if you are. She may not be the easiest marker but she will definitely make you work for your grade and I promise you that it will pay off.
Super kind and one of my favorite profs. attendance is important. lectures are interesting, office hours are flexible and she really helps to guide your writing in the right direction. she also gives lots of reading assignments which will likely be on the final or on a pop quiz
I adored this prof! Her lectures are dense but superinteresting, and she's so sweet and fun. I learned so much with her. She was very willing to help with your writing if you went to office hours and wanted you to succeed. Tons of reading, but it was worth it.
This prof is horrible, school is online right now from the coronavirus and she has not responded to a single email from me or any of my friends in the class (even though she has emailed the class multiple times). She will never remark anything, even if you meet with her and she acknowledges that she was incorrect, she never changes your mark.
Loved her in the beginning, but gradually started to dislike her. She's a great person, however she marks entirely too hard, and will change your diction if it's "too complex". Great if you are an english major or take it seriously, horrible if you're just trying to get by. Made me dislike english due to her harsh marking.
I absolutely loved her class and her lectures were enjoyable! If you can't stay off your phone then she'll kill your participation mark but it'll otherwise be an easy A for participation if you show up. She will mark up your papers to death and gives wonderful feedback - she marks really hard so editing every nitty gritty detail is mandatory.
Dr. Robertson made this English class an awesome experience. Her section's theme was Fantasy and Reality, and used different texts to explore those themes. While some profs refuse to give feedback on papers in progress, she actually requires it. She alleviated all the fears I had about university English. Highly recommend!
strict and curl, insist on her own opinion, hard to communicate.
Leslie was the best professor Ive had to date. She was extremely compassionate toward all of her students and made sure that she was available if you needed her. I went to go see her for each of my essays and she provided excellent feedback that took my essay writing to the next level. Her lectures are very interesting and immersive as well.
Dr. Robertson has been one of my favourite profs this semester! She's very helpful and provides good feedback on assignments so you know exactly how to improve. This course does have a lot of readings but if you don't let it pile up you'll be fine.
Robertson clearly wants her students to do well and reflects that in her policy and grading. Participation was mandatory but easy. Do the readings and the quizzes are super easy. Gave lots of good feedback on the 2 essays and was very open to helping. Great prof who made English not suck, fair marker too.
Dr Robertson was so kind and extremely helpful! Gave lots of great feedback, and cared for her students, definitely take her if you can!
Great professor who marked fairly.
Dr. Robertson is a great professor and is always willing to help you out in your writing.
Dr. Robertson is the epitome of an English professor. Standard, but good at her job. Encourages participation during class, and is fair in her courseload. I was pleased to have her.
Tough marker. Entitled to her own opinion. Do not take this class if English is not your subject. Using her feedback did not help improve my marks at all. Takes off percents for small grammatical errors in essays which can dramatically affect your letter grade. Usually gave students the same letter grade for every essay despite clear improvement.
She seems to be more concerned about your citations and format of your essay rather than your actual ideas and arguments. I rarely received any feedback on my actual writing. I found it very hard to improve in her class despite significant improvements in my work
Gives the worst feedback of any teacher I have ever had. Extremely difficult to improve, even attending office hours. Lectures (mandatory) are a HUGE waste of time. If you are a man and disagree morally and politically with her, you will do poorly in this class. Tough to work with a Ph.D. graduate with no openmindedness.
It's tough to say whether she was a good or bad prof due to the boring nature of English classes. What I can say is that she is an insanely hard marker, even for English profs. After marking your paper she takes 1% off per grammatical error she finds with a limit of 10% taken off. Do all of the readings or you will beat yourself up for it later.
Prof Robertson is a great prof! She definitely marks on the more difficult side, especially regarding grammar, but overall a fair prof. You can still do good in her class though, and going to her office hours was really helpful for me!
Dr. Robertson is a great prof! She is super nice and the class material is easy to follow. She is a tough grader on essays, but as long as you make sure to take time to revise you'll do fine. Don't save essays to the last minute in this class! Besides a couple essays, the rest of class is fairly easy.
Shes a nice person but not such of a good prof, get ready for lots of homework
Tough grader
Very rude and entitled prof. Extremely harsh marker, even the smallest mistakes are ruthlessly punished. Her assignments are unclear, and I often felt like I was expected to be able to read her mind to complete tasks to her standards. Feedback on assignments revolved around personal attacks rather than actual feedback. Very arrogant and rude.
Please don't take her. My experience with her was absolutely awful. She's an extremely nice professor and seems like a great person overall but she is such a tough grader. She failed me on one of my essays which affected my overall grade. I have never gotten such a low mark on an essay in my life. If you want a good grade, drop her.
If you see this professor, run away!!!
Don't take her course. if you are already in this class, just drop it as soon as possible. The professor won't even give full marks for participation, even if you go to class every day. Your essay wrote according to the standard, but her feedback is still vague. She will tell you that your point is too general or too narrative. you have no ideas
Avoid!!!
Professor Robertson was amazing. She focuses the start of the semester on reviewing the basics of writing (eg. grammar and punctuation) which I found extremely helpful. Prof Robertson was also willing to help give feedback on assignments and essays drafts. As long as you show up to class, and don't do your essays last minute, you will be fine!!
I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews about Dr. Robertson, but remember that each student has a different experience. Yes, she is strict on grading and her expectations but she also offers extra support and feedback on assignments. I've been in two of her classes and I can't wait for the third. Give her a chance.
She is engaging in lectures and I felt she marked very fairly, her quizzes were also super doable provided you glanced at the material. Loved listening to her lecture.
I've never had an English course as organized and straight forward as this one. She was clear with her expectations and gave helpful feedback. As long as you do the readings and show up to class this will be an easy course. She knows what she's talking about and is clearly very passionate!
Great prof. Very generous with marking of assignments and essays. Just show up for class for the participation marks, not really required to contribute to class discussions. Cares about her students and their situations. Lots of required reading that you will be tested on in class.
This is the worst professor I have ever had, If you do not have English as your major, I highly advice you to not take her class. She is a very tough grader. Coming to class for lectures are mandatory otherwise consider a participation grade of 0. HIGHLY AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!
ENGL 353 is not an option to select, but that is the course I took with her. She's super smart, and her lecture and teaching quality is excellent! I found she marks fair. She does pay close attention to grammar and formatting, so keep on top of that. One of the better profs I have had when it comes to quality. Would take a course with her again.
I really enjoyed her class, as well as the content we learned. As long as you show up and put in the work by doing assigned readings and putting thought into your essays, you should have a fairly easy time and hopefully enjoy the class as much as I did.
A Very tough marker, unless you're an English major avoid her at all costs. Unless you put in the work (reading all the texts) you will see little to no improvement in your writing. I say again AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE HARSHLY GRADED AND LIKE READING/WRITING!
She had good lectures especially when discussing the literature but grades very strictly, it is quite disheartening. The final essay I worked on for three entire days got a 72 from which she deducted 15 points for "passive voice and errors" none of which were grammatical, which gave me a just pass on the essay. Avoid unless you're an English Major
Tough grader, makes mistakes in grading, asked for feedback and said no feedback to be given but gives B, gives assignments that are not suitable for 100 level English.
AVOID AVOID AVOID- there are easier professors out there.
I took 2 English classes with Dr. Robertson. Her classes were harder than others, but SO worth it. Her classes prepared me for university-level writing and analysis. She offered excellent feedback that allowed for growth. I became a strong writer because of her! Take her class if you want to succeed in writing future papers throughout your degree
unclear grading scheme got me deduction that seemed random and she just takes off mark if something isn't what she is looking for. Take this class if you are an English major who wants to hate English for the first time.
yeah no
Very picky and will dock marks for every mistake made on your essay
I would highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Robertson if you get the chance. She gave thoughtful and engaging lectures and would provide opportunities for her students to participate in class. She is a tough grader but if you listen to her advice carefully, you will see improvement in your writing. If you have questions be sure to ask them.
Dr. Robertson was my favorite professor this semester. Her lectures were vibrant and captivating, which made it easy to stay focused. There were quite a few required texts, so be prepared to read. Quizzes were written into the syllabus, so there was lots of time to prepare. Essays were minimal. Solid prof, highly recommend for 100-level English!
Dr. Robertson is the best professor I've had in University. She is a fantastic lecturer and a caring teacher. She is a meticulous grader, but meticulous in such a way that she helps shape and improve your writing. If you put the work in (and by that I mean read the materials) her courses will be among the most rewarding you'll ever take.
I think the recent rating were made by English majors or ppl that are actually interested in English studies because.. if you are just a student who is forced to take English 103, just don't take this class. There are much easier classes out there. Her expectations are beyond 100 level introductory English class. She not understanding at all.
Her lectures are amazing, the topics are super interesting and the discussions are useful for ideas for papers. She is very accessible and friendly about it, and gives great feedback on papers. She gives lots of smaller poems and short stories in ENGL 102, which makes the reading load more manageable than a prof that assigns several major books.
Professor Robertson has high expectations, but her engaging lectures and insightful feedback make you a stronger writer. Try unstuckstudy for study prep - it's a lifesaver alongside the readings.
Her presentations were difficult to follow along with as they consisted only of images. Did not hold many opportunities for engagement and was unclear on certain expectations. She seems really fun but is hard as a professor.
AMAZING PROF. She is very fair and my personal favorite at this school. I have taken 2 classes of hers. She'll make you read big books, but she makes it completely worth your time with amazing lectures to walk you through them. I imagine she might be difficult for first years, but if you love English, you will absolutely love her. She is the best.
Amazing professor! She is passionate about English and it shows. The readings were quite heavy, but they are worth the read. Class discussions were so engaging and fun. I did not always agree with her grading but she is very willing to work with you to improve. Aside from teaching, she is so fun and so kind! Best prof I've had this year!
I enjoyed Dr. Robertson's class, and my writing has improved immensely. I knew she was on the "tougher" side, so if I had an essay that was 20%, I would work on it as much as I would study for a STEM 20% midterm. If you take her class seriously with a good attitude instead of being upset that you have to take English, you will do well. :)
She is a horrible marker that will take points off if you use the word utilize instead of use. She grades for grammar on her essay rubric and will take an extra percent off for every error on top of that. Essay feedback is poor and she marked citation pages differently between myself and another classmate despite them being identical.
You need to show up on time to every lecture. Her lectures are very helpful for the building blocks of essays, but she is an insanely hard marker. If you aren't excellent at writing you will barely pass. Misuse of a punctuation in essays will give you a 60% at highest.
Dr Robertsonson gave such excellent lectures! Reading was pretty heavy but it gets referenced throughout the assignments and final, so it pays to read the big stuff and know it well. Only two essays and a final, the comprehension quizzes were straightforward but she picks curveball questions so make sure you're very familiar with the reading.
I did one of the reading quizzes but she didnt record my grade so i got an automatic 0. I reached out that there must have been a mistake but she wouldn't doubt herself that she didn't record it. I mostly received A/A- throughout the assignments. How can you not doubt if a student usually gets 85,90,95 and then get a ZERO? 😭 nightmare experienced
I gave her as much proofs as I could. Summary of the book (15 pages), last edit on the doc made on the day before the quiz, etc. Unfortunately, i threw out the quiz paper since it wasn't needed for future assignments at all. The book was solely for the quiz so why would I have spent so much time to write all that note just to not attend the class?
I loved Dr.Robertson's class. Her lectures were engaging and all of her assigned readings were interesting. Her lectures directly coincided with our assignments. She actually taught us how to write (proper grammar, sentence structure, etc), so your writing will improve. It is not an easy A, but definitely a rewarding one!
Chat it's really not worth it. Just find someone else. Your straight A streak will die on this hill.
This professor is a very tough marker and while she giver clear feedback even when applying that you can still score low. She does not expect high marks on assignments for first years. Lots and lots of readings! For what the experience was I wouldn't pick her classes again.
Incredible lecturer and super understanding, she is approachable and will help the students who ask. Feedback from her was confusing at times and not always helpful, make sure to follow up and ask for clarification when needed. Would definitely take a class with her again, you can tell she loves what she does and it spreads to her students.
Leslie was the best prof i've had so far, her lectures are interesting and engaging. she references the textbook a lot but its not necessary. she gives great feedback and is willing to work with students to help them improve their writing. She is a fair grader, if you do the work and participate every once in a while she is a great prof.
I'm not gonna lie, if you don't want a stressful final along with your other stressful finals, this adds so much more to it. The final is such a hard exam and it's honestly not worth it. There's less stressful English classes out there with better finals. Trust me. Please. I'm saying from experience. I just wrote my final and it was not worth it.
She's a great lecturer; for an hour I feel like I don't hate English as a subject whenever she talks about a text. But she's also a tough grader, so I would recommend her if you're truly interested in English as a subject, and I unfortunately wasn't! But if you do care, she does provide tons of feedback, especially for essays.
Very caring, simple quizzes that test reading comprehension, essays were tough graded but fair, and her lectures were very good, you can tell she likes what she is talking about. Would take again.
