Made the class fun. She tried very hard to have the class enjoyable, but sometimes the subject matter can't be saved. A great teacher and a credit to the university.

A great teacher and a credit to the university.
she is alright, wouldn't reccommend

Recommended for CS 202, doesn't take attendence often. Not very professional, but that wasn't detrimental. Cancels class often.

She is a good teacher. She made class very enjoyable and made the class laugh and stay awake even when things were boring. One of my most enjoyable classes to be in with her as the teacher
Easy teacher, nice teacher, just dont talk in her class, she gets pissed at that
tells you everything that's on the test
Interesting class. she did take a 5pt attendance quiz about once a week
This is my favorite CS class, it is so easy
Easy class, even if you do not know much about making web pages....explains things very well, and even does the homeworks and assignments in class sometimes, or at least an example of the homeworks/assignments
she is a good teacher but she doesn't put up with talking in class
Mrs. Dixon is so helfpul. I knew nothing about web design and the class is really easy if you pay attention in class. Even though she doesn't take attendence, to get a good grade in this course, you MUST go to class!
I took this clss during the summer. The teacher was very diffucult and unhelpful. She seemed very unprofessional, disorganized, unclear and at times even indignant. Thank God for the TAs!! They were very helpful and nice.
If you think this class is hard, you should probably drop out of college.

this was really easy if you go to class. she shows you exactly what you have to do for your assignments. and if you forget how to do something you can always look it up online.
Very good teacher, come to class and listen and she will tell you how to do the assignments that she gives you... Just copy down what she says and writes, and you can have your work 99% done from sitting there.
This is not that hard of a class if you show up and take notes. She'll literally walk you through each project, step by step. However, she can be a bit obnoxious and hateful if you cross her. She's pretty nice, just come to class and don't step on her toes and you'll do fine.
Great professor. Work sux but she makes it very interesting. Very helpful to students. Anyone can succeed in this class with some hard work or talent.
Easy class if you attend and do your class and homework. She is always willing to help. Only negative is the material is extremely boring and she was late frequently.
Great teacher, CS 205 is a good bit harder than CS 202 though.
Very easy class... show up, take notes and you'll get an A. Only 2 tests in the semester, and both were easy. Rarely keeps you for the full hour and 15 mins either.
Great teacher!
She's a great teacher as far as teaching the material. But I had to have a one on one talk about my grade and she wasn't very polite. She seemed more concerned about getting me out of her office than helping me.
I didn't like this class. It was hard to understand things when you couldn't work them for yourself in the lab because there is no lab for this class. She talks to you like your a little kid and she reminds me of Bridget Jones. I don't really recommend this class to anyone
I took this class online and she was the most helpful teacher that I have ever had. If you are trying and she can tell she will help you out. Her projects are difficult but she grades them lightly! Great teacher!
I took her online class. She doesn't answer emails very quickly but she is a very helpful teacher. If you don't get the grade you want on assignments, she will let you do it again!
I took this class online. Easy, just do the assignment and have the book handy for quizzes. The quizzes can be tricky, just make sure to use the book
Great teacher. Occasionally gives bonus for attendance, although attendance is not mandatory. Going to class will really help you out in the end though. Test reviews are VERY similar to the actual test. If you just ask her questions, she is very happy to help you out. And she is a very happy person...in general!
She has wild mood swings that greatly affects the quality of her teaching. She WILL take out her stress on her students. Other than that though, it was about what should be expected from a CS professor. Horton is better if you can get him.
Very Moody
She is very helpful. She's a great teacher. Gives lots of bonus opportunitues. Gives a good study guide. Test are clear and to the point. Highly recommend her.
She sometimes gets on to you for no apparent reason like a highschool teacher. For example, after everyone turned in there tests she went through them and pulled mine out and said I didn't put my cwid on the test. I said yes I did and she got mad. Turned out I did. I only bubbled it in. don't let her see u on a computer while watching a movie.
She is a great teacher! Her and tests can be pretty tough, but if you go to class and listen (and study her power points) you will do well. She will give extra credit for attendance. At the end of the semester you have a video project (as long as you do the assignment right you get a really good grade). Also in class work which boosts your grade!!
This class was very easy! I studied the night before the test, never read the book and made over a 95 every time. Just make sure you go to class. She can be moody but if she knows you are trying then she can be very helpful DURING tests. Make sure you get a good group for the video.
Great teacher
She is a great teacher who obviously cares a lot about her students. She's pretty chill if you forget to turn in something and need to submit it the following class time. She is willing to help you in any way that she can and the group project is fun and a really easy A. If you are willing to go to class, take Mrs. Dixon.
Really Easy
Mrs. Dixon is a really nice and laid back person. If you go to class and actually listen you will make an A. Plus she gives bonus points out the wazoo!! She has a group video project at the end of the semester but it is really easy. In my opinion do a documentary/interview type video. The ones in my class were the best by far (funny & interesting)
This class was a continuation of CS 340. Tests were moderate. Only had one video project, and had the option to count it for 2nd project grade. Mostly power points for lecture, but she really tries to make it fun! She's awesome!!
She is so funny and very nice. 3 tests which were doable unless you studied a decent amount. Go to class bc she does clicker questions. Video project is a pain, but do it well bc its easy points. Gives lots of extra credit at end and drops grades. Made a 92,95,and 82 on the test and 96 on video and made an A+ in class. She is one of my fav teachers
Absolutely love her very genuine and works with you. Great person and great teacher! Need to be in class every single time though, so do not take as an 8 AM if you like to sleep.
Mrs. Dixon takes attendance by using a clicker every class, but it's worth going to class because she will give you some answers to test questions and tell you what to know. Class is usually as long as the designated time says. Tests are easy if you ACTUALLY study. BIG group project at the end of the semester.
Great class overall but attendance is mandatory with several clicker questions a day. The tests are also pretty challenging but the group project is easy and can boost your grade up a lot. I would take this class again.
She is an absolute joy to have as a professor. Lectures are straight forward and the video project at the end of the semester is manageable. Pay attention to her lectures and take good notes (especially on the court cases). If you do this, you should have no problem leaving this class with an A! Her tests are not difficult if you study the review.
She is easily my favorite teacher that I've had thus far at Alabama. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. The test were a little hard, you just have to make sure to take notes and do the reading. Very easy grader for projects.
Really fun and entertaining. Test are easy if you've studied thoroughly. Class meeting times are mandatory because of the clicker questions. Easy class overall.
Mrs. Dixon is awesome! Her tests are straight from the notes, but there's a lot of material on each of them, so if memorization isn't your thing, they'll be hard. Video project can be annoying but isn't too bad. She takes attendance by clickers, so you need to go to class. She can be a little moody at times but overall she's fine. Take this class!
There are a lot of very long lectures. I suggest watching them at like 1.6x speed if there is anything else you want to do during the week. Watch every single video because you will be tested on it. The final consists of a great deal of information. Work hard on the study guide she provides.
Honestly she's an awesome professor, but I failed every exam I had. There's one group project and we got a perfect 100. And at the end of the semester she gave me random bonus points that I definitely didn't do anything to get them. You HAVE to come to class because there are clicker questions everyday. I loved her, you just need to try on tests.
You HAVE to study for her class or you will fail every exam, which I did, but I got bonus points at the end of the semester which really helped my grade. I believe that she scales the exams at the end, but that doesn't mean you need to purposefully slack. READ the assigned readings, WATCH the videos and make sure to take good notes!!
I love her. She is so sweet and wants everyone in the class to do well. The tests haven't been awful and she gives a pretty good study guide beforehand.
She is super nice and so helpfully. Mrs. Dixon wants her students to understand what she is teaching and to do well in the class. The group project scared me but in the end it turned out okay.
Ms Dixon is an amazing professor. She really wants you to pass, but also wants you to understand everything. I am taking her again next semester for CS345, and I highly recommend anyone taking that or CS340 to take her. One of the best professors I've had at bama.
I took Mrs. Dixon for CS340 and she was great. I took this class expecting an easy A but I definitely had to study for the exams (court cases etc.). The group video project is fun and extremely easy, pretty sure everyone gets an A on it. Also, at the end of the semester she always does something to help your grade.
one of those teachers who won't raise your grade when your less than .5 away from making an A- vs. B+
Mrs. Dixon is one of the most engaging professors you will find for a computer science class. She made every lecture interesting with related stories and videos to the content we were learning about. A major grade for the class is a group project where you pick your own team members so it ended up being the best group project I've ever had to do.
Ms. Dixon was encouraging and engaging in her lectures, and she provided great feedback on homework projects. The assignments had clear grading criteria and were relatively easy as long as you did not wait until the last minute.
Mrs. Dixon is an AMAZING lecturer, she helps make the material applicable and easy to understand. Highly recommend printing out her slides & taking notes on them for class. You need to go to class for her clicker questions. Be prepared to work in a group for a video project, pick the right group & put a decent amount of effort in & you'll make an A
Professor Dixon was one of the best instructors I've had in my four years at The University of Alabama. In my last semester, I took CS 340. This course is a great prep course for all those taking MC 401. Three exams and a group project. Lectures are made interesting and enjoyable even at an 8:00 a.m. Overall, great course and would recommend.
Great class and an easy A if you study and participate in class. The topics are relevant and interesting. Her lecture style is the best- she is animated and really gets into the subject matter. There is a group project but its fun and allows you to branch out and meet new people. Take her class!! Fun and easy!!
She seems to really like what she is teaching despite the information being boring on a basic level. She figures out how to make it fun! The tests are kind of difficult, but she gives out a study guide, and the group project at the end of the semester helps you out.
She is by far the nicest teacher I have ever had. Her class is also interesting so studying for this class isn't too bad. The test can be hard but the study guides help a lot. I would totally recommend people to take this class
I took CS 340 online this Fall and absolutely loved it. Professor Dixon, even in an online environment, was very clear in what was required and always very kind. She is easy to get ahold of and very understanding. If you take this course online, be ready to watch a lot of lectures or you won't pass the midterm or final.
Heavy lecturer. Be prepared to come to class with your clicker. Clicker quizzes with every lesson. Tests are extremely hard but she provides a study guide. Just study long and hard and you will pass. Her grading is pretty clear. Class was a tad hard you just have to put in the effort.
She is a great professor who cares about the students and what she covers in class. Her tests are hard but if you study they are not that bad. Bring your clicker to class, as this will count as attendance and daily quiz points, which she will give you the answers. I would definitely take her again
group project but it counts as the final so you get done with the class like a week before dead week which is nice. Just take her. She is such a great person. Taking her again next semester. She is so caring and will work with you. The material isn't hard it's just a lot but she does everything she can to make it easier on her students. 11/10
Great teacher! She really makes the boring material seem interesting and she will always have you laughing. Studying for tests are a must, but there are only 3. and HUGE group video project at the end of the semester but it is very fun to do!
This class is online through a textbook-like system, so your instructor doesn't matter. All they do is email you reminding you to complete the assignments on time, which she does well. For the class, I'd recommend copying the steps for each task onto a Google Doc so that you can look at them during the checkpoints instead of memorizing the info.
This was an online class, so I did not personally meet her. She was very nice in her emails and offered one on one help. This class was very easy, there is no final, and you can finish it early if you get ahead. If you do the practice tests, you get extra credit. The content is simple, and you get two attempts on the tests.
I enjoyed Mrs. Dixon so much I'm taking her again for 345. Not a hard class if you put in the effort. STUDY for the tests, they aren't impossible but they also aren't the easiest. Your final is the group video project which is nice because I'm pretty sure everyone gets an A on it. Attendance clicker points help your grade & she offered extra credit
I took this class online. It was pretty easy, but she can get an attitude in the feedback, which I find is unprofessional and extremely rude. Her video lectures are boring and very monotonous with lots of pauses between each individual word, but the tests are based off of them. Definitely study for tests. Not taking her again.
I wouldn't normally post on RMP but Mrs. Dixon has PMO for the last time. She continues to contradict her own statements when it comes to in class quizzes. At the beginning of the semester we were told that when taking quizzes we could ask for help from our classmates, but has since then punished the whole class because this rule has changed.
Leslie is the worst professor I have had so far. She contradicts everything she says and always gets defensive when you try to ask questions regarding exams or quizzes. Do not recommend at all.
Ms. Dixon is a fabulous professor. If you show up to class and pay attention you should do perfectly fine, but going to class is a must. There are clicker questions everyday that are 20% of your final grade. The questions come right after the material that the question is about. If she repeats something, it's most likely a clicker question.
Just dont take her. Based off of past reviews, she looks like a nice teacher (that's why I chose her). I think the department might have told her to become more assertive because this class was ridiculous. She barely explained the material, took tests from another teacher so the content wasn't exactly hers, and the clickers, dont even get me going.
Overall the class is very easy to do well in. In class clicker quizzes make up 20% of your grade and the answers are on the powerpoint. There is no final, instead you do an easy group project.
Leslie Dixon is my favorite professor at the University. She is very caring and understanding. I took her for CS 340 and for CS 345. If you are putting effort in to the class she will work with you, but if you blow things off, she is less sympathetic. Highly recommend her classes, and am sad I can't take any more classes with her.
I REALLY love her and her class. The lectures are interesting and engaging. I would give her a 5/5 HOWEVER, There is a semester-long group project that really just seemed like busy work and doesnt take into account non traditional students who support themselves financially, and have a hard time lining their very packed schedules w others.
Knowing what I know now, I would have NEVER taken her to begin with. Seems sweet and nice at first, but turns rude and condescending instantly if she doesnt like what you said or asked. Refuses to work with you during an extenuating circumstance, and leaves you on your own. Save yourself and dont take her. Anyone BUT her!!
Had a project for legal ethics to build and create a website. Not only does this have absolutely nothing to do with the course material, it was incredible difficult and unreasonable to ask students to create a website when we have not been taught this in class. Very unprofessional and plain idiotic and rude to include this project
Great professor, but attendance is not optional in the slightest. Don't be too worried if you don't do well on the test because she grades easy on the group projects if you just show effort.
At first, she seems very helpful and nice. Once you miss a class or things do not go the way she would prefer, she becomes very condescending and rude. She talks down to you and treat you like you are stupid unless she likes you. Take literally anyone else but her.
Had her during the COVID-19 Pandemic so the class was over zoom. The midterm and the final were ridiculously hard for no apparent reason. The zoom polling questions did not work half the time. She is the better of the two 340 teachers but still makes the class unnecessarily hard. The project is your only real grade booster.
The modules and the group project are not that hard, just make sure you pay attention to the videos & read the sections in the book that she lists for that module. The midterm and final are a little hard. I made C's on the midterm and final, but because I had A's in all other aspects, I was fine. Also be aware she has a 5pm deadline!
There's two test and a video project. She grades the project super easy, but the test are actually harder than I expected, but not too bad so you need to really pay attention in class. She grades participation by polling quizes, so if you want the points you have to listen. She does give good extra credit opportunities and is very helpful and kind
As long as you listen to her lectures and complete assignments on time, you should have success in her class. She chooses very interesting topics to cover, though her tests can be hard. I learned so much in her classes!
Leslie Dixon is a very sweet instructor. This class is discussion-based, so be prepared to talk. As long as you can come up with an opinion on something, you'll get your participation grade. She gives great PowerPoint to use to review for the exams. Overall, a great professor, and I would take this class again.
Mrs. Dixon made this class super easy and enjoyable. Her tests are entirely based on her lectures and the study guides provided so be ready to go to class and take lots of notes. Attendance is mandatory but she also occasionally gives out bonus if you show up on rainy days.
Not a hard class. Big group project over the whole course. A lot of lecture videos you pretty much have to watch to pass the quizzes.
I took her class during the summer mini-mester and I have never enjoyed a class as much as this one! The content isn't too tricky and she tries to make it interesting by including case studies and creative projects. She was super accommodating when I had a time conflict for an exam too! Really caring, sweet, and a great communicator!
Professor Dixon was AWESOME! I took her class online over the summer and she made the material easy to learn and accessible. It's practically impossible to fail an assignment because she emails you if you haven't turned it in yet the morning it was due. She is easy to reach and really cares that you get an A or a good grade. Assignments were easy!!
She is super sweet and understanding. As long as you show effort in the group project you'll be fine. She also gives a lot of bonus point opportunities. What she teaches in class is what's on the exams so take notes and study. Make sure to do the "make up quizzes" before the exams cause they help with studying and give points on the exam.
I love this teacher and class. Although tests are difficult if you pay attention and take notes you will be fine. She is so caring and willing to help if needed. Clicker questions helped with study prep for tests, and the group video project was not too difficult. Overall great class and amazing teacher, just study and you will be goog.
Nice lady. Her tests are significantly harder than you would think based on how she runs the classroom. The difficulty is about what I would expect from a 300-400 level course. Group project can really suck but she grades very generously so it is a grade booster. Clicker questions count for accuracy so need to be present and pay attention.
Mrs. Dixon is an awesome professor. I came into 347 not knowing what to expect but it turned out to be a lot of fun and made me enjoy coming to class, something I say for very few professors here at UA. The final project was also very fun which I can't say I've ever found a graded assignment to be fun. Awesome lectures and great course content!
At first I loved her and she was super nice to me I had trouble with my clicker and tried to ask a question during class and she called me out and told me to put my hand down as time went on it just felt like she didn't like me and thought I was dumb the tests were also so hard and you need to go to class to even consider passing
They weren't kidding when they said her exams are hard. They are HARD. You won't be able to pass the exams if you don't thoroughly study. She gives out a good bit of extra credit which is nice. I got a C on the midterm and seem to have an A, so as long as you pass the exams, you should be fine. Take at your own risk though.
Mrs. Dixon is such a fun and caring woman. She is obviously passionate about what she teaches and is very engaging in lecture. Her tests do require some studying, but I never scored lower than an 80 on any test. She gives grades for breathing in there. One group project video for the whole semester.
SO EASY. You have to go to class though! She does clicker questions for a daily grade, but basically gives out the answers so it's a free 100. Tests are easy, there is a group project video but it is easy and you have lots of freedom with it. Bit unorganized at times, however not too bad
Does make you buy $150 clicker for attendence which sucks but other than that she makes the class super interesting and not hard at all!
Mrs. Dixon is a very sweet professor and most test material comes from questions asked during lecture. The class is lecture heavy, but she made it easy for how hard some of the content was. The majority of your grade is made up of clicker questions which you have to be present to answer
Professor Dixon is great and keeps class interesting and high energy. You do have to participate via clicker (Get a cheap one on Amazon, NOT the $150 one from the Supe Store) but accuracy isn't graded. Tests require some studying but aren't bad. One group project, but it's actually really fun and a free "A" that is weighted heavily.
Professor Dixon keeps the class engaging with clicker questions, though the $150 clicker is a bummer. Tests require solid preparation, but the easy group project and bonus points help balance it out. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep!
