He prefers talking about how rich and smart he is rather than teaching you anything useful. In fact, he doesn't really teach you anything, he just tells you what to read in the book and expects you to know random facts that he likes to discuss in class. Don't bother buying MyEconLab, it won't do you any good.
He only gives you 50min on the tests. i remember i was on question 35 when i had 5 min left. Oh, and he makes tests harder as the course goes through. he doesnt help, he boasts about what he owns, how rich he is... and he ALWAYS talks about his motorcycles and FORD and Chevy. He doesnt help at all, gives one example (NEVER clear) DONT TAKE HIM!
I Saw the other bad comments and I am surprised. I think they were written by some spiteful poor people. Doss is cool and teaches a lot more in class about life than u will ever get out of a book. He is hard and u must study, but is a cool guy and great prof. I got ur back Mr. Doss.
Professor Doss has his own style of teaching that is for sure, but he makes sure his students gets what he is saying. If you use your study guide and go to every lecture and take good notes then it will be easy to pass the class, so what if he talks about his stuff.its economics.I think he is great and I would recommend him to my friends for sure
I really enjoyed his class. He'll tell you from the beg. this is not a class where oe can get an A but you will learn and he is very funny. I always looked forward to going to his class just because i never fell asleep. Fun guy and very helpful. thinkin about taking him for macro.
He spends the majority of the time talking about himself and how much money he makes. He had to continiously brag about the new truck and corvette he bought during our spring sememster. If i hadn't taken MicroEco in Highschool I would have been totally lost.MyEcon lab will not help and his tests only get harder.Dont take him.
This class took time but I learned a lot. You need to go to the IS sessions and class, they will help! Tests are 75% how or why something happens & 25% memorizing facts. He does talk about his business & how he makes a lot of money but it shows he knows what he is talking about b/c he?s using it in the real world & doing very well for himself.
Do not expect to get an A. He even informs you that from the very beginning. But I did learn quite a bit from him and he does make class interesting. I recommend him. Keep in mind that its hard to get a B.
I came in with a lot of prior knowledge of the topic so it's hard to say how good his teaching was. It seemed like he skimmed through a lot of stuff that would take more time to properly learn. Anyway, if you read the slides (or the book) and understand them then you'll do fine on the test. He gives lots of hinds as to what's on the test. Listen.
Loved the class keeps the most dreadful and boring topics interesting!
Don't bother buying the textbook, he teaches directly from powerpoint slides. That said, you have to either print the powerpoint presentation for each chapter or bring a laptop, he uses print outs of the powerpoint slides. Exams are multiple choice (50 questions) and are you're only grades, so don't under estimate them.
Multiple choice exams cover definitions and concepts and a decent amount of math. Isn't heavy on graphing which makes his class much easier than it could be.
Great professor! He always relates everything in his class to real life situations. He makes class super easy! Read the book! Do his extra credits and trust me it will help!
Great professor! He always relates his work with real life examples. Makes the class super easy! Read the book and do the extra credits and you will pass the class.
An example of what a college professor should be like!! Relate what you are teaching to real world experiences and make it interesting. Hate econ classes but he caught my interest with his style of teaching!! Learn from him UTSA proffesors!
Knowing the definitions is the key.
This guy abuses his position as a teacher to force his poorly formed political opinions down students' throats and under the guise of economics. He never once walked into class with an organized lecture. His method of "engaging" the class consists of blabbering political opinions then asking leading questions and yelling at students who disagree.
This is not an easy class. I studied a lot! His lectures are short and only talks about a few important points. Psudo-libertarian who pushes his political leanings in the class.SUPER egotistical and narcissistic. No one cares about how moderately successful you are! Kind of felt bad for the sad lonely little guy.
This is a difficult class. Just hang in there it gets easier on the last two tests. Ask questions. He gives opportunity for extra credit on written assignments..be sure to do them because they will help your overall grade. It is definitely a thinking class, so if you do not understand ask questions. He will let you know what to focus on.
easy class i've ever taken besides algebra for business major, but he gives alot of extra credit and also explains materials to real life scenerios. also the way he teaches gets some getting used to but he is really great!! first test and last test are usually the same if you pay attention to what is going on. and pay attention!!!
I will agree that he talks alot about himself and how successful he is. But at the end of the day, he teaches you the material he wants you to know and gives enough extra credit where you can get the grade you want if you work for it. Id say his test were pretty easy. Just know the powerpoints! Hes a good guy and a decent professor. id take him.
His lectures do not correlate to the exams, be prepared for a self-taught course. But you do have chances to through e.c. and projects.
made everything easy to understand with real world examples .great teacher
Loves to talk about Macro application to today's world.
Best professor and mentor any student could ever have. Initially i was worried class would lower my gpa, but professor Doss makes learning fun and easy. He does what no other professor does; help student believe they can succeed and overcome any obstacle.
Great professor! This class is tough! Read the chapters so you understand the discussion. attendance is not mandatory, but needed if you want an A. He KNOWS if you are not there and will call you on it (jokingly). Great professor & mentor ! He will not let you fail if you try and there are LOTS of extra credit opps. Made an A+ =)
I grew to like Doss. I understand the previous reviews that warned he talks about himself. He does, but he always tied it back to class and how it relates to the subject. His teaching style is unique, that's for sure. He teaches similar to the Socratic Method. He does go a little quick, especially the math. You have to apply yourself to do well
As Doss would say, this class is a "working class." He gives LOTS of extra credit opportunities and helps the class on the assignments. He gives a good review before the test. He is super funny! He finds ways to make the material relate-able.
This class was really something else. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was good that he is in the health industry as he can paint a realistic picture of how the industry functions. This class is mainly research papers, but it is because of this research that truly drives the learning process. I would highly recommend this class and professor to anyone.
Makes lots of prejudicial remarks, and justifies it with "In this class we are not politically correct!". His lectures drag, and he tends to go off topic A LOT, had to teach myself. Tests are never what he says they'll be! On the plus side gives 8 extra credit assignments that can really save you.
AMAZING HUMAN BEING WITH AN AMAZING HEART, HE CARES FOR HIS STUDENTS, TAKE ANY CLASSES TAUGHT BY HIM, SIMPLY AWESOME TEACHER!
If you're looking for an easy A, then don't select this class. However, if you're searching for a course that is intriguing and will challenge you, then this is the course for you. The test material is hard if you don't read the textbook beforehand, but if you read you'll do fine. The professor also give a BUNCH of extra credit, and it helps a lot!
Can pass if you try. By trying just read and ask any questions. Write the extra credit papers for sure!
He's a great professor. He teaches using the Socratic method and makes you want to learn. His course will make you open your mind up to stuff more than just economics. I wish I could take more classes with him or professors like him. He makes sure you understand that you can do anything you put your mind to. Very kind and caring person.
Doss is great, kinda goes off his own grading criteria. Interesting class, the APA paper was definitely difficult... but you get it over with pretty quickly. Love how he will grade your paper early.
Doss is a great professor. This was the first time that UTSA had offered Sport Economics. Due to this, the course was highly flexible in the beginning. He offered to make it test-based or paper-based. Doss' exams are difficult and long, so papers are easier because the floor grade is a C... as long as you try. Go to class to stay on track.
Great teacher. Funny, explains everything with a real life example, friendly, helpful, does great reviews before tests.
Professor Doss is a great educator. He gives lots of extra credit, at least in ECO 2023, in the form of eight 15 minute quizzes over the course of the semester. His tests are difficult only if you don't do the non-mandatory Cengage "Chapter Quizzes" (which also contribute to extra credit). Take his class, you won't regret it as long as you can read
I loved coming to class just to hear him ramble about life. Great teacher. Straight forward with no sugar coating. Teaches d little in class, so you have to do a lot of at home reading. Gives tons of extra credit to help you pass. If you are sensitive don't take. But I enjoyed this class very much.
He taught this course by the socratic method. Many people do not come to class and I'm sure it reflects on their paper scores. This course is research heavy. If you are good at writing, I would recommend this course. The two midterms he gives are pretty challenging mc questions, but he curves. There are a total of 5 papers throughout the term.
Professor Doss gets off topic pretty often in class. He won't go over anything in the textbook because he expects you to read it and learn it yourself. Tests are online which made this class easy. I just did not enjoy that he got off topic so often. Most of his teaching is done before an exam where he reviews everything that will be on the test.
This class as he called it is a "working class" if you put in the work, you will make the grade you want! He is a very interesting teacher, you'll never leave a lecture without being amused! He tends to go off topic a lot but you'll learn more about real economic problems in this class verses any other macro class!! Go to class for quiz passwords!
Mr. Doss is a great professor. Definitely the most knowledgeable professor I've ever had. The lectures are interesting. He goes off track but if you pay attention he gives you economics examples by telling a life story. He says it is "working class" which is very true. He will make you work for it. Do the extra credits and online Graded quizzes.
Makes you work hard for an A. Tests are online but very difficult. Lectures are usually entertaining. He tends to get off topic a lot but his lectures are very funny and interesting. Class is not mandatory but you need to go to class to get the Extra Credit Quiz passwords!
All of his tests are online and he gives you two extra credit opportunities per test for up to ten points. The prof really likes himself, but once you get past that hes actually a really good prof. He tells it like it is and uses good real life economics examples.
Entire class is based on socratic method. This was a pretty fun class because Doss is actually involved in the healthcare industry. The course is mainly 5 papers (1 big, 4 short) and 2 mid terms that are pretty challenging. If you're willing to put in work and learn A LOT for an elective, take this course.
Cool dude. Great reviews for exams. He will try to frighten the student body, but hes just a regular guy who is understanding and wants you to succeed - but you have to give it an effort. Had him for Micro - retaking Macro rn due to the macro economics professors being seemingly possible to understand, wish he was available.
Going to class is not mandatory. Pretty much every single class Doss talks about himself and hardly ever lectures on what's actually on the exams. You have to go to class to get the passwords for the extra credit.
Professor Doss was a tough, but decent teacher. His lectures werent very helpful so a lot of the class is reading the textbook. Tests are difficult, but with enough reading you can pass. His stoies are sometimes funny, but veers off course too much. Overall an ok teacher
Professor Doss is interesting. His lectures are useless. He is not a "teacher" and reminds you of the fact all the time. He talks about the material as if you already know it, even though it's a freshman level class. His only saving grace (and the reason I took him twice) is the quizzes and tests are online, so you can use Google for every question
Professor Doss is a great and funny guy if you're a dude, his lectures on current events are insightful and try to secretly teach you the ins and outs of Microeconomics, but he simply comes in and talks about anything except what is on the next exam for 75 minutes.
Professor Doss was not extremely difficult-no homework, no quizzes, but be prepared to READ that's where you will mainly learn! He uses his lectures to mainly reminisce about his past experiences (his college years, his CEO life, and talks a lot about politics). However he does do very thorough reviews, and he gives suprise extra credit passwords
The dude loves himself but he's one of my favorite professors. Very knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about. Go to class to get the extra credit passwords. Do the extra credits and the graded quizzes and you will be fine. Wants you to pass, but acts like its going to be the most difficult thing in the world. Do the work and you're fine
Great lectures, gives a lot of real world scenarios and shares a great deal about himself. Attendance is mandatory as he will give out extra credit passwords, and only states exam dates in class. Take notes on the review day and you are guaranteed to pass. Highly recommend, great guy can be tough but its nothing hard.
Really interesting lectures, quite funny. Speaks plainly. Do the extra credit and you can easily make a B or C. He talks quite fast when he is actually speaking about content. Read the chapters and do the extra credit!
Doss is a very good teacher and it's very hard not to pass. He gives you extra credit for basically everything plus the tests are easy as long as you partially read and paid attention in class. He's super funny and will call on people randomly during his lectures. Take him for both micro and macroeconomics because he knows his stuff and is easy.
I found out too late that this class was so easy to get an A, but I still passed. Everything is online (quizzes, exams, AND the final) If you do the online quizzes on time (they're all due at the end of the semester but I wouldn't recommend waiting) then you should pass exams (most of the time they're duplicate questions)
The first time I took him I got a C in micro, and once I took him for macro I knew exactly what I had to do and got an A! All you need to do is do the extra credits, and read the book and do the quizzes. It's work but if you do it you are guaranteed an A!
Doss' class setup is so simple anybody can get an A. Show up to class (his off-topic stories almost always tie into the material), do the graded quizzes and ECs, and you'll know just about every question on the exams. Also, the final exam is OPTIONAL! If you bombed an exam, it simply replaces your lowest exam score. Google is your ally.
Total of 4 exams. DO NOT BE FOOLED!!!!! Although the exams are online only a few of the questions are found on google. He doesn't teach in class and his exams are 50 mins for 50 questions. I took it thinking the online exams were going to be easy, not the case. Take a professor who actually teaches. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS FOR AN EASY A...
Doss has long lectures where he just goes on and on about his personal life and about how rich he is. The class was not extremely difficult but it was really annoying to have to deal with him and self teach everything.
Doss is a cool guy and very smart. His lectures are pointless, though. He just rambles about things that do not have to do with economics and talks about his life a lot, but it is entertaining. His class is literally so easy, the only grades are from his online tests which are easy. Literally everything else he assigns is extra credit. EASY A!!!
Professor Doss is a very intelligent and easy going guy. However, the class period where lectures are supposed to take place, are a WASTE of your time. Professor Doss will ramble about his personal life, what he has done, or how rich he is, all of which have nothing to do with economics. This course is mostly self-taught.
Everything is online. 2 Extra credit for every test worth 5 points each. QL assignment worth 40 points, evaluation 10 points, and post quiz 10 points. test 1 is ok, test 2 is the hardest and 3&4 are significantly easier. You learn everything on your own but its still good to go listen in on lectures. Answers are on coursehero and chegg.
Doss is AMAZING. As long as you care enough to review some of the chapters in the book before a test (AND DO THE GRADED QUIZZES & EXTRA CREDITS) you'll be fine. He"ll make it seem ridiculously hard in the beginning, but just put in some effort before tests and sit back and enjoy his engaging lectures!
Doss is a really good professor for anyone who wants an easy A. All of his exams are online and almost every single answer can be found by googling and using around the question. If you dont go to class and dont read you will get an A in this class. All of the extra credit is easy to complete, so do it! All the quizzes can be googled.
Doss is a funny guy that shoots from the hip. He's very knowledgeable in his subject matter and does a great job of simplifying complex theories. You will have to write a lot of papers but he's not too hard of a grader if you follow the criteria he gives you. Just put in the work, keep up with the reading, and you'll get an A or B.
The class was tough due to being over the summer. Paper due every 12 days and a timed test on Mondays. The first two papers are assigned w/ topic but the final you're on your own. Teaches using the Socratic method so do the readings before coming to class & ask questions. Otherwise, he'll go off track and start talking about public policy. So READ
This professor does not teach you the material. He just talks about his life and goes off topic. I would recommend taking someone else. Tests are the only grade and they are hard and you have to study by yourself.
Public Econ is an incredibly hard class as the avg. grade is a C. It's a seminar-based course, so he'll email articles that cover the lectures so read before class. He tests on both the lectures & book content, usually every 5 weeks covering one ch. per week. 4 tests, 1 term paper instead of a final. Probably best to take Intermediate Econs first.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You see other reviews on here about how everyone gets A's and B's. Do not take him. It is self-taught but doesn't even matter because there is no efficient way to study for his tests. He doesn't teach in class and goes off topic every ten seconds. He gives extra credit but it is not enough to get the grade you want. A waste.
Not only did his lectures primarily have nothing to do to solidify the course content when it did relate it was minimal and obscurely related that you really had to stretch to make sense of it in relation to course work. No way to prep for tests! Rants politics consistently. Thrives on ignorance. Says attendance isn' required but makes it EC later.
I am on my last year of college and thanks to this professor I have now achieved my first D. If you like a minute per question test, no real lectures and a professor who has his head in another world, go ahead. This is a warning.
If you like being lied to about grades, 1 min per question tests, EC worth nothing, teacher who doesn't teach, learning nothing, hearing right wing politics- take him. He doesn't teach and admits to not teaching. Also very unprofessional.
This professor does not teach the material. All he talks about is himself and how smart he is and does not care about his students. 1 min per question test and the test questions are based on politics and political history. Tests are the only grades and there is extra credit opportunity but it is not sufficient. Even if you study you won't pass.
His speeds through his lectures and talks to the class as if we are all economist. Don't take him.
I would NOT recommend Prof. Doss to anyone! He makes everything so difficult. He speeds through lectures, doesnt elaborate on his answers when students ask questions to better understand. His attitude makes it much worse! I honestly felt like he could careless if his students are learning the material. Basically, you have to teach yourself.
online lectures are just answering the same 30 questions about extra credit then how he's taught other online classes and everything has been fine. Spends about 5 mins for the actual material by reading off powerpoints, not actual teaching. Tests are pretty hard, even if you do study. Does not allow you to go back on previous questions for the test
I have heard good things of Doss for upper level Econ courses, but he does not care about intro level courses. The entirety of this course is online even though it is not an online course. 90% of lectures are unnecessary as he does not discuss topics relevant to the course. The tests are online as well. You will not learn much, but it is easy.
He doesn't have lectures and the questions on the quizzes are vague. Time is very limited as well, does not allow you to think but instead gives you anxiety.
If I wanted to teach myself an entire class I would've taken the CLEP exam instead of wasting my money on a CLASS! This professor is so hands-off and rushes through everything in a 10-30 min video he calls a review. No effort is made by the professor.
Don't take this class. Take the course to CLEP because that is basically what this class was. All self-taught through reading. Professor is completely hands off. Schedule changes constantly. One week there will be multiple chapters due on top of an exam. Each chapter is about 2-3 hours with reading, notes, and learnsmart questions.
This class was pretty much teach yourself and the lectures were useless so I didn't go. There are McGraw-Hill HW assignments & quizzes every week along with tests every so often. My main gripe is that there were two 6-8 page papers and one 18 page term paper we had to write, that was awful. Lectures are mandatory as there is an attendance quiz.
Wow, just wow. I took this class in the summer and it was such a mistake. The professor literally could not care less about the class. He stacks up like 7 chapters for a week and just throws an exam on there for giggles. The entire course is straight from the textbook, there were no lectures or anything. Definitely would not recommend this class.
If you want to teach yourself a class. Professor has outdated lectures and you have to figure out economics by yourself. Well this is the class for you
a very hands-off approach to the online asynchronous course. I found it easy since I had already taken this economics class in high school but if you hadn't it could be very difficult because of how much new content is learned in a single session.
Very funny guy. Knows so much about the topic and just everyday things. Gets a little off topic from time to time, but it always ties back to what we are doing in class that day. Lots of lectures, but lets you out early almost every day.
Complete all assignments and it should be an easy A. If you show up to class he will do random extra credit points. One chapter a week due (reading, 10 question homework, 20 question quiz). Can take every quiz twice. After every 3-4 chapters there is a test. Four tests total+ optional final. Lectures can be repetitive.
Took this async over the summer. One chapter everyday Mon-Fri. Chapter includes reading, homework, and quiz. He gives you the online textbook and suggests a timeline in which to complete it, but other than that you are on your own. If you complete all the assignments (which can be a lot if you have busy summers/ multi classes) should be an easy A.
The class was fine, but I feel that was no due to him. It's pretty much entirely on smartbook and connect, so you can kind of cut him out. His lectures are interesting, but he often times failed to take a neutral position when talking about modern events. He also wouldn't stop students from butting in with political opinions which was frustrating.
60% of the lecture is him talking about the car his wife bought for $10,000 over list. seems like he really doesn't enjoy teaching the subject.
Very fun professor, he is really engaging and you'll probably hear about his corvette every day, I would definitely have him again, the allows two tries for quizzes which show you what you got wrong on the first try and the homework assignments have the "check my answers" option which is great!!!
Doss is a very intriguing guy, and you shouldn't be bored in his class. His lectures don't go into depth, nor are they always on topic but it will not affect your performance. His class is smartbook heavy with lots of homework being easy A's. Exams are online and can be excelled at through proper studying of the book. Attendance is extra credit.
Overall a good professor, lectures tend to go off topic but his assignments and tests are not too hard. Would take again.
Prof Doss is the absolute best when it comes to class lectures. Sure he gets off topic, but it is very enjoyable content and various times does connect back to the discussion. We had several debates with him when we were in his class after dismissal about econ, life, and even basketball. He is a tremendous person and fun to talk with easy content!
If you have to take ECON i highly recommend Doss. I am a lazy student and kept an A the whole class. Attendance is extra credit, i just did work during the class. Its smartbook heavy so if you do the work you're GUARANTEED a B- to an A+. You can literally retake everything until you get a 100 except the exams.
He is a good professor. He sets clear grading standards. Everything is done through McGraw hill connect. Everything is open book. Lectures are just long and don't make sense. Just read through the homeworks and you will have an A in the class.
Professor Doss was by far one of my favorite professors I have taken and plan on taking him again in the future. Everything is done online in Mcgraw Hill Connect. He does take attendance but adds it as credit to your grade which helps a lot. He tends to go on random information during his lectures but everything you need to know is in the textbook.
The class is very smartbook heavy, and it's practically guaranteed that you'll pass his class if you just do the work on time. He does take attendance during lectures if he remembers to, but the only reason to show up to one is to note the disagreements he and the book have on the subject, which is only usually 20% of the actual class time.
Professor Doss is like an onion. He is nice and hilarious during his lectures, but when it comes down to business he means WORK! The tests are pretty heavy, if you do not do the HW or quizzes good luck. In order to pass this class you need to do the work, if you are a slacker forget about this class because you have to work. But he is awesome!
Doss was hilarious. Most work was done outside of class (textbook, homework, quizzes and even the tests all are online at home) and inside class he went over all the harder stuff. I found I learned more from the in class lectures than the textbooks. Grading is clear, just get the work done before it's due and then you just worry for the test.
All tests and homework are done online. Doss tends to go off-topic during lectures and tends to spend the whole class discussing unrelated subjects students bring up. Attendance is also mandatory which is unfortunate because I never felt a need to go to class to get a good grade.
Weekly reading, homework(unlimited attempts), and quizzes(2 attempts). Goes on tangents all the time, some relate to what we are talking about. I recommend going to the SI sessions for clarification. There are 4 test and an optional comprehensive test. Overall the class is a bit hard and time consuming, but easy to pass.
Wow this guy is amazing. His lectures contain only 1% useful information that will be on the test, so you'll have to study the online materials for it. He also checks attendance every class. The lectures though.. AMAZING! This is where you learn useful information. You learn about life. This guy is super rich, he knows how to create wealth.
Professor Doss' lectures have nothing to do with the curriculum for the most part but you will learn a lot about current events and his personal life. He uses SmartBook for readings, homework, and quizzes. He goes over information to prepare for the test in his lectures prior to the tests. Attendance is extra credit. The final exam was optional.
There are chapter reading, chapter homework (infinite attempts), and chapter quizzes (2 attempts). There are 4 test(open book/notes) and an optional finial. Overall the class is easy to pass. The professor is nice and talkative.
he was great if you can read. it is 100% book and all the tests are open book and open note. all quizzes and homeworks are multiple attempts as well.
He was pretty alright, he would mostly talk about nothing and sneak in important things in between them.
Doss is a good professor. Only downside is he can tend to go off topic in class. Do the work and you will get at least a B. If you want an A do good on exams. He gives out credit just for showing up to class. Show up to class, do the work, do decent on the exams you will pass the course. He also gives out test answers during class so PAY ATTENTION.
Honestly the class was really easy just come to class because he takes attendance he talks about his life the rest of class so you only really learn from the Magraw hill chapters which are pretty simple just time consuming tests were open book also
Doss talked a lot about personal life rather than the material that was supposed to be taught. I really liked that all his assignments were online and really easy to do. We have attendance quizzes which are 10% of your grade so it gives your grade a boost. I think the tests were difficult though, because they are timed.
Honestly not a very good professor. The class itself is not that hard, but the professor talked about his life 90% of the time. You have to teach yourself everything and the tests are extremely long. If you do all the work you should be fine, but be prepared to hear about his cars, his daughter, and his wife most of the lectures.
This professor is awful, a perfect example of why tenure is a problem in college. Doesn't teach anything economics wise mostly talks about his life while throwing insults at the students, and making obscene and prejudice comments. Attendance is mandatory so show up and don't be late, if you are you aren't getting credit for the day. Avoid this guy!
Why he teaches? who knows, but get ready to teach yourself in this class. Occasionally he'll print out the chapter test but again its not that often. Most of the time he talks about himself personally and rambles on for the duration of the lecture period. You're required to show up as well and attendance is graded I wouldn't take him again.
Do not take him. So many people on this site say he is good because the class is easy. The class is easy because you teach yourself, there's no point in going to the lectures except for attendance because he spends all class rambling about irrelevant things. He is offensive, makes prejudice comments, and curses. You won't learn anything from him.
Well, you can pass the class on your own if you keep up with the assignments and read. I took the course in the summer and the exams were open book, btw. The downside is that he goes totally off topic and tends to talk out of his arse, so you pretty much have to teach yourself. He also tends to make prejudiced remarks. *sad trombone*
Dr. Doss is a great Economics professor. In his lectures he talks a lot about his personal life and how it relates to the subject. His lectures are very funny. All assignments are on connect, and all tests are open notes. He tells you from the start that if you do all assignments you should have at least a B.
Doss is okay! If you're "new" to college and/or fresh out of High School... he's probably NOT the type professor you want to take. He doesn't spoon feed or really teach a lot. He gives lots of "nuggets" during his lectures but you have to pay attention! He'll tell you what to focus on but again, you definitely learn more outside of the classroom!
Pretty much have to teach yourself. He doesn't teach anything, just calls people "nerds" and makes racial comments. It's an easy B, even if you don't go to class, but if you want to actually learn economics, take someone else instead.
He is a funny person but not a fan of his teaching, most of the time he just talks about himself in his younger days. Most of your grade is done through homework's and quizzes, which he gives you multiple attempts, easy to make hundreds on those. THE TEST ARE TERRIBLE! They are all about 80 questions in 75 minutes. Super hard.
Take this professor if you want to teach yourself for a meager, passable grade and also enjoy attending mandatory lectures where you have to listen to one talk about their cars, favorite sports, life and wonky right-wing rhetoric. He also rudely talks down to the class and makes very prejudiced remarks.
Doss' lectures are pretty much a waste of time, he spends most of the time talking about himself and not really anything that pertains to the tests, the whole class is basically online it's an easy A.
Super easy, lectures have nothing to do with the graded assignments but those are all online through the textbook, it's an easy A, attendance was mandatory and he did attendance quizzes every day, so just make a friend that goes.
He is the main reason why I made this account in the first place. His lectures don't help at all with the homework or test. At best he might say, "this page is important for your next test." and that's it. The homework and test are not hard but take some time and attendance is mandatory. I urge anyone to NOT take him unless you absolutely have to.
This class is a mixed bag - the professor tends to go off on tangents, but the assignments are pretty straightforward. Definitely rely on the textbook and study tools like unstuckstudy to supplement the lectures. Attendance is mandatory, so just make sure to show up and engage with the material.
He made the class easy and didn't teach the book much during lectures, but world-related economics which made learning it actually interesting, he is not like most professors and that is what I loved about him.
Enjoyed this professor, assignments are easy and made lectures interesting
There is a lot of McGraw hills, but overall it is easy to take his class, what brought my grade down is not attending to class very often.
