He taught the class without using notes but cover all the relevant information for HIST 171. Quizzes n final are multiple choice, pretty easy if notes are taken during class n text is read. Didn't make a big deal out of attendance, really cool!
Hands down, one of the best history professor I've ever had. Very animated!Multiple choice tests.Extremely friendly. Take him if you get a chance!
yet another nightmare history teacher here at Fullerton. Class is all lecture, a quiz just about every week and your grade depends solely on how you test. Attendence isn't even counted! Tests are easy if you already know history or are a history major but for the rest of us, they are insane
Taking his class means u mess up your college carrier. Only 10pts extra out of 400pts. Basically, u hv to get As straight from 4quizes +2exams. Don't even dare to ask the quizes back, or he will say "U don't trust me?" He, moreover, talks too fast +rarely writes on board. U'll be busy in hell.
U can only pass this class if U read the book, take good notes (from the book) and score high on 6 tests. No extra credit, no other homework. Lecture isn't worth anything 'cause most of it isn't used on the tests. Never gives u back your scantrons. His information contradicts the book.
Way too much information to absorb between tests, of which you can expect 11 total including finals. He is unfair in that he does not let you review your tests results to improve. Is adamant about no extra credit. I felt he cared little about students.By far the most disappointing class to date.
The guy knows how to teach but it's so much. He doesnt give homework.your grade relies on all the hard tests he gives you.and he gives you a lot of them too. i have to admitt he was an easy person to listen to and very animated but too tough of a teacher for me.
I don't know if he teaches in absolutely different way in Fullerton, but I took his hist 170 in OCC and it was awesome! So far the best history teacher I've ever met
Although his lectures were incredibly interesting & very informative, there was entirely too much information between his lectures & the book covered during the semester. Its a class youll have to go to every week & do all the reading assignments. This class requires a lot of attention. Hes not an easy grader but theres no homework only tests.
Seriously dedicated to imparting knowledge to his students...Mr. Douglas has a special gift for lecturing combined with a deep understanding of the events that shaped our world. History can be challenging and fun. Thank you Mr. Douglas.
This professor knows his history and puts in a lot of effort in making you understand. The class is a little tough because he doesn't give out any homework or extra credit but if you read the book and attend every class meeting you'll definetly pass.
He was a great teacher who really made history seem more interesting. I told him that I couldn't afford the book so before the final he let me borrow his! He's great!
A GOOD TEACHER THEN ONLY BAD SIDE IS THAT HE GIVES NO HOMEWORK OTHER THEN READING AND HE RELIES ON YOU TO KNOW THE IMPORTANT FACTS ON YOUR OWN. DOESNT GIVE BACK TEST ,SO YOU CAN REVIEW THEM TO SEE WHAT YOU GOT WRONG. OVERALL EASY TEACHER BUT TEACHING STRUCTURE ISNT SO GOOD...
An easy teacher to take. Class is based on test. You need to study from the lecture notes to score well on his test, half is based on test the rest on readings. Made the subject interesting to learn from. A funny teacher with a good sence of humor.
Attending each lecture is extremely important for this class. The tests are quite simple if you have attended class regularly as the questions seldom stray from information presented there.
This teacher knows his history! The lectures were the best I have ever heard. He lays such a good foundation that you find yourself taking it with you in economic and political science classes. This class was part of the general education requirements but I'm really glad I chose this one!
WOW!!! You wanta see a super cute guy teach what I first thought was going to be a boring class, you need to take Douglas. He is very helpful, interesting and is always telling cool side facts about the material.
i loved les! he is super funny and has a great sense of humor. really, he made history fun. plus there's no required papers!! (thats the best part) quizzes/exams are straight forward and overall i learned a lot from his class. he is really a funny guy
Great Teacher! I took him for 170 and 171! Great class. Very interesting...but even though attendence is not mandatory - you need to go. His lectures are the test!
Was a GREAT teacher! I took him over winter and it was the best class!! He did everything he could to make sure we passed. No homework, easy tests, goes over evreything in class!! He nows everything about this topic he teaching!
he is a great teacher, everything you could want, knows what he is talking about, good at lectures, funny, his tests are very clear which seems to be something most other teachers screw up.
hands down THE BEST teacher ive ever had. I hated history my whole life till this class. i took it before with a different teacher and got a D. Prof. Douglas made the class soo interesting. you do need to study, but its easy with all the study guides he gives, which are basically the test. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! u wont regret it!
I HAVE HATED HISTORY ALL MY LIFE. AFTER TAKING HIS CLASS I STILL DON'T LOVE HISTORY BUT IF I HAD TO TAKE IT AGAIN, I WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE ONE THAT HE TEACHES. BRILLIANT TEACHER. KNOWS HIS STUFF. YOU COULD SWEAR HE LIVED THROUGH THE HISTORY. EASY GOING BUT DISCIPLINED. I DEFINETELY RECOMMEND HIM.
Interesting class. He would tell some great stories very relevant to the material. Pretty hot for an older guy too!!!
Professor Douglas is the most entertaining lecturer I've ever listened to! He makes learning history fun and interesting. He is so very concerned with his students and I only wish I could take another class with him!
Mr. Douglas is a great teacher. His lectures are fun and informative. Going into his class I dreaded going to another American History class and he turned my thoughts around and I learned a lot. Thanks!
Mr. Douglas is a great teacher I got a C in his class but enjoyed taking him. He knows history well and explains it like he was there. Test are kind of hard along with some quizzes and you have to attend class or you will miss a lot of information. He doesnt give extra credit, study outlines or power points its on you to write everything he says
I can't say enough good things about Prof. Douglas - always willing to answer questions, hilarious, and fair. 3 exams, no other assignments. You HAVE to read the text and take good notes, but if you do that you can definitely get an A or a B. His class is what made me enjoy history - he is a fascinating speaker.
SUCH A GOOD TEACHER! we have 25 point quizzes every other week, total of 8 quizzes and one final at the end which we have not taken yet. grades kind of on a curve and gives really good notes.gives a study guide and you can pick either mult. choice or t/f..just go to class, listen and take notes and you'll get an A. takes role but attend. not graded
Wow! I loved this professor! I hated history before I took this class. He is SO knowledgeable and taught me so much. Teaches all form memory. Amazing. Easy A if you take lots of notes on his lectures and do the study guide. Eight 25 point quizzes and one 100 point final.
Amazing teacher! I hate history but I really enjoyed his class and I actually learned from it. I would highly recommend taking the class.
Fantastic teacher! Great lectures that made class entertaining and enjoyable! If you want to laugh while you learn, take his class!
Amazing!! Anyone who takes this class will love it! Tries to be very clear, doesnt try to trick you + tells you things about history that you could have never known.Funny teacher aswell, not afraid to get into a character mode. Class met once a week and the grade was based off 3 tests. If you follow his study guide you cant fail. Best professor!
One of my favorite professors ever. He has so much character and energy that it makes you actually makes you want to go to class. There is a quiz every other week but if you follow the study guide it is a breeze. If you attend class and pay attention to the lecture which is not hard to do you don't even need the text book. Very knowledgeable!
this prof. is the best one i have had so far. he is easy to understand, and very helpful, it was a wonderful semester being in his class. its really cool that he has all the material memorized, so he can put the material into context that we can understand.
Professor Douglas is an exceptional narrator. His lecture, if you can call it that, is more like listening to a fascinating story unfold as opposed to a teacher just rattling off random, dry information about a bunch of dead people. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic teacher. He's so interesting and explains things clearly from the text that may be difficult to understand. He's really funny and has one of the best man haircuts I've ever seen. Really.
Quiz every other week(he hands you a study guide), final, no papers to write. Good teaching style, done to earth and very helpful with questions. Will answer questions in detail, using his extensive knowledge. Read online sources in addition to the book, to fill in as many details to help your understanding of events covered.
Mr. Douglas rocked. I have never been one to like history but I loved his class! Great teacher, makes class interesting. Quiz every other week so don't miss class. Take notes and know the answers on the study guides and you'll do fine.
Mr. Douglas is awesome! I took his night class and it was like having a historical bedtime story told every class session! I learned so much with little effort! I missed one test and all I had to do was write a few pages about a historical event... it was the most reading I did out of the book. I got A's and B's on the tests by just listening!
Douglas was AWESOME! He is such a capable teacher he could teach you everything you need to know without you having to study. I always had a hard time getting into history but he is very good at bringing it to life. This guy deserves a metal or something!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! best lectures I have ever received in my life. The way he speaks is so interesting! When you take his class after reading this, you will understand in a heart beat what we mean lol I know its at night but he's the best for history so its worth it. DO NOT text, you will get a break, simple class structure. TAKE HIM!
Great teacher! Lectures are interesting even at 9 o'clock at night. You get study guides for every test and there are no papers to write unless you miss a quiz. Pretty easy to catch up if you miss a lecture!
Hands down the best History class I've ever taken and I'm not a history buff at all! Mr. Douglas pieces together historical events so well that you cannot help but become enthusiastic. Never used the book. Exams are very easy and are taken straight from the study guide which he mostly lectures over.
Great teacher. Took class over summer and if you read the book & study the study guide you will do fine. He makes history as exciting as it can be though tests are thorough, his lectures are good enough that they grasp your attention & his delivery good enough that you will remember all you need to for the test. Highly recommended.
Mr. Douglas is my favorite teacher at Fullerton! I have never really had an interst in History, but his class is so interesting! I highly recommend him. Class isn't to hard if you show up and take some notes and read the book
Prof. Douglas keeps class interesting, his tests are challenging and he's a silver fox. Anyone would enjoy taking this class!
Take notes on his lectures which are interesting.Read the book and study the study guide you can't fail his class! His tests are mostly from his study guide and lectures.
Mr Douglas is awesome. I'm actually considering taking his class again just so I can listen to his lecture. Every class feels like "story time" and it's awesome. It's a difficult class though. Heavy note taking and I thought the textbook was awful. You should be able to do fine with your notes, complete STUDY GUIDES, and a little help from the net.
I had little interest prior attending the class but after the first lecture i was hooked! He makes such a dry subject interesting. Make sure to read the text and note taking/good highlighting was an advantage on my part. The exams were challenging only if you didnt study. Just take some time to review your notes, and the class will be a breeze.
Very funny & easy teacher. His whole class is him telling stories about history and might I say he tells them very well. He hands out a study guide after tests, just write down the answer to each question during his lecture and study Study STUDY for the tests & your sure to pass!
You will not learn more pretty much from any other professor on campus. I never used the book but he does use some questions on quizzes from the book and not his lecture. Got a B in the class but could have easily gotten an A. 8 quizzes and a Final either MC or T/F. Really easy. And man, his lectures are awesome. Pretty much like story time on history :)
Doesn't review after quizzes have been graded. Two 100 question tests and 4 quizzes. No extra credit. He doesn't seem approachable and gives quizzes after lecture. I always feel rushed taking it.
I am disappointed that he does not give out study guides! Tests are not that easy. I'm a visual learner and the book is not reader-friendly. He rarely writes on the board and does not let us review our quizzes after we get it back to check incorrect answers.
By far the best teacher I have had. Study guides are short and clear, his lectures cover everything so very little reading needed. He knows his stuff and is pretty funny. I tell everyone I know to take his class, he makes history fun.
This class is freakin challenging! The tests are hard, but the lectures are fantastic! Be prepared to take good notes and study hard! Study guides are given 1 week prior to the exams. Good luck!
wonderfully amazing professor! He is passionate about his subject and that transends to the students. I'm a bio major, could really care less about history but he had me LOVING his class. He doesn't just teach dates [in fact, hardly focuses on them at all] he tells stories. Stories that make you care and that you'll remember once its over. Take him
he told stories which makes you remember what he is talking about a lot easier i LOVED hiss class the most. i recommend taking him . you have to print out study guides
WOW- I've never had any interest in history before this class. He is so passionate about history, the way he lectures makes it SO interesting. There is no homework, only biweekly quizzes and final, and they are really easy. Just make sure to do the study guides and you will get an A. Super easy, and interesting. You will love history after his class
His classes are awesome. He is so helpful. He knows everything about what he is teaching. He also makes his classes interesting and funny. Take him, you won't regret it.
This class has me excited about history! His storytelling makes me think I can be the master of this subject. He IS 100% approachable, but for some reason people were reluctant to ask questions. Sometimes it is hard to concentrate though because he is an incredibly attractive man:)
I LOVED his class! I took it over a year ago and still remember a lot from his lectures. He presents the material in interesting ways -- it honestly does feel like story time. There was a 25 point quiz every other week, so take good notes. I never studied except for the final but took good notes and passed. If you're a slow writer, bring a laptop!
he is an AMAZING professor!! one of my favorites that i have ever had at fullerton college! he lectures for the full length of class, very funny, and makes his lectures interesting! if you miss class, you miss alot of notes, so try to read the book. he gives you study guides and does his best to help you! best peofessor ever!!
History is definitely a subject that I'm not dying to learn about, but I'm glad I took it with Professor Douglass. His humor is very sarcastic, which I love. The class could get a little dull at times, but he always tried to make it interesting.
By far my favorite teacher ever! There is no homework, quizzes, and barely any reading if you pay attention in class. He makes his lectures interesting and informative, always keeping it light with extra tidbits. Grade is based on attendance, 4 tests, and the final. I would highly recommend him any day of the week and twice on sunday!
He make dry subjects interesting and make jokes. However, he only give u study guides with 3 tests included final exam, which is pretty hard. 100 mc questions for each test. He answer people question from study guide, not really following textbook. You really have to take notes and read in advance. He did give extra credits and take full attendance gives extra points too. Luckily there is no homework.
Awesome professor! Took him for a whole academic year for Hist 170 and 171. He is very knowldgable of his subject. His class is not boring at all! He lectures as if he was telling you a bed time story which makes the lecture flow by in no time. Definitely recommend him ! Can't fail his class, as long as you are dedicated and know how to study.
His lectures are pretty entertaining. Learned after the first exam that taking notes was not pertinent because most of his test questions derive from study guides. Make sure to show up, complete the study guides, and review them and it's a very manageable class.
I absolutely love Mr. Douglas!! He is the nicest teacher I've ever had and the most helpful too. I love the way he teaches. The way he explains his lectures make you actually picture them in your head. I loved his class so much, I only missed it one time for a funeral, other than that it's the class I couldn't wait to go to. Plus he is a cutie!
Super easy class! I figured out after the first exam that there was no need to take notes in class because majority of the questions on the test come from the study guide. He takes time at the beginning of every class to answer any questions you have. No homework and no quizzes. Definitely recommend him. Plus he isn't bad to look at either! ;)
Super easy class. Easy A as long as you do the study guides. DO THE STUDY GUIDES! very interesting lectures. no hw. just 3 exams. 100 questions. everything in the exams comes from the study guides. attractive professor too.
This man changed my life. That is not an exaggeration.
The best history teacher I've had to date. I happen to be a very big history buff but the way this guy lectures is second to none. Easy A if you do the study guide and take notes on his lectures. The reading was just a bonus for this history buff.
Great Professor! Cute & good looking
If you have to take this course, this is the man to take it with! He is hilariously funny and really knows how to make the class relatable. I came into HIST170 dreading it since I don't like history, but I came out upset that it ended! He really made the class super fun and enjoyable! I highly recommend this professor!
Prof Douglas was an awesome teacher. He was so interesting to listen to. His class is entirely lecture unless there was a test. Take good notes! He makes things easy to understand. Highly recommend! Not to mention he is very good looking :)
Mr Douglas is a good teacher but he has recently implemented an essay exam in the course that most of the class found to be difficult. His multiple choice exams were pretty straight forward but since the only points that you can earn in his class are from 3 exams (each worth 100 pts) the 2nd essay exam can kill your chances of earning an A.
LOVE THIS TEACHER! Great lecturer, funny, and tells history more like an entertaining story than dry and from the book. Reading not mandatory. 2 MC tests, 1 essay test (ONLY. no hw/quiz, etc). USE THE STUDY GUIDES and follow along with the lecture, and you'll be fine. Very helpful, esp if you have questions. BEST history teacher I've ever had.
Best history teacher in the world! i hate history but he made it fun :) i never wanted to leave. He tells history like a story with funny little facts and it was fantastic. i had learned about the revolutionary war and civil war several times before in high school and even grade school but it never really "clicked" until his class.
great teacher. makes history very interesting, almost makes you feel your back in time. highly reccomended
Wonderful teacher! He loves what he does, and that is apparent. He takes an effort to relay the information to you so it stays in your brain. Instead of just shouting facts at you he draws you into a story with an understanding of the culture and why these events occurred. Took him at a 7 am, but it was completely worth it!
The BEST professor @ FJC & honestly the best hist. teacher i've ever had! Has a great approach to teaching where he tells you hist. more as a story so it remains interesting & give a new perspective. Also has amazing details about EVERYTHING which makes me never want to be late or miss a lecture! Im really considering minoring in hist. becuz of him
I usually get C's or D's in history but I got a B in his class. Excellent teacher.
I honestly loved this history class. As a liberal studies major I have to take several history classes, and this class was by far the best. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who struggles with note-taking. He is easy to understand and is very helpful.
I had failed every US History class before I took this class. FINALLY, Douglas taught me and I learned so much, I even have a great grade to show for it. Try HARD in class, READ your textbook and work on your study guide. Consistent work in this class is rewarded. BEST US HIST CLASS I ever took. He's not easy, but work HARD.
Les Douglas is one of my favorite teachers at FC. He is a wizard in the subject of American History, and is an all around exceptional person. He teaches his honors classes differently, by allowing the students to run the discussion, but he does lecture. I wish I took him more. Good humored and good natured, I am actually good friends with him now.
he doesnt not go over the study guide, how are we suppose to know if we got the right answer. he tells good stories about history but then he jumps around alot. he is not very clear on what he wants on the quizzes. he does not give u your quizzes back to see what questions u got wrong so you could improve for the exam. he expects know everything
Great professor, knows what he is talking about. Not an easy A though, you really have to pay attention and go to every class. 4 assignments, 1 book report and 3 tests. Can't really miss anything. Great Professor though. Definitely taking him next semester
Douglas is a funny guy. Very helpful when you ask him questions, however he doesn't write anything on the board during his lectures. If you're not a good auditory learner or if you're a bad test taker then don't take this class because that's the only way to boost your grade. I'm currently in his class right now. 3 tests no homework.
Tests are not to bad but you must attend class and READ to pass but attendance isn't mandatory. Grade is entirely on tests and one essay (which he helps you out on ALOT)
I used to hate history until I took this class. I not only learn so much, but I enjoyed his class so much I would take it again. He's fair in his grading but he makes it easy to learn. Go to class with the chapter read, take notes (a lot of writing/typing) and you'll be set for his tests.
The lectures are amazing and interesting because the professor knows how to engage with the students. There are 3 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 essay. The last three are difficult so you have to read the book and take good notes. Even though the Prof. gives great lectures he does not cover everything. You have to work to get an A.
Douglas makes class very interesting and makes history fun to learn! You must read the book diligently but it's worth it! He is really helpful and cares that you know the material!
Douglas is awesome!!! He knows soooo much about history!! his lectures are fun and interesting!! 3 tests one essay and verrryyyy detailed study guides such a nice guy and good teacher do NOT take any other teacher except him he is the best!!
One of the top three history professors at Fullerton College. Lectures without notes like a true professor.
He has NO powerpoints, & NO homework (4 QUIZZES, 1 MIDTERM, 1 FINAL) His history class is like a "storytime"class. He makes it interesting & he'll make you laugh! You DON'T need the book to pass. He has study guides, never needed the book FYI: history never changes! You can easily searchanswer all SG questions online. Strongly recommend his class!
Most amazing professor I have ever taken. Just by his lectures you can tell how much he knows and loves history! Lectures are incredible and so easy to follow. Gives clear study guides that are basically exactly what the quizzes, Midterm, and Final are. There's no way you can fail if you just do the study guides. Awesome professor! Must take!
He is amazing. The best professor I have ever taken. Easy class. I am not good in history, and yet I got an A :)
This guy is like House M.D.! (Sarcastic, funny, entertaining!) He knows the material very well & is passionate at what he does! I wasn't a big fan of history until I took his class! It's not like he shows you slides & expects you to know everything. He just tells history like a story & makes it easier to comprehend the events he talks about.
His lectures are amazing and never boring. The downside is that there is only three exams which in my opinion are very hard. The study guides were not helpful at all. Must read and do some amazing studying to pass otherwise, good luck! It was the first time I withdrew from a class.
In my three years in college he is easily one of the top 5 professors I have ever had. Teaches history as if it one was of the most interesting stories you have ever heard of. Tests are almost directly based off his lectures, which is great because his lectures are very entertaining.
I loved coming to class just to hear him talk. His lectures are so crystal clear and informative, and always answers any questions that you have with a great answer that includes other answers. doesn't care if you dont pay attention as long as you don't disrupt anyone else, don't do it. He is funny and pretty hot for an older guy. def recommend
Took him because of the great ratings I saw on here but I ended up dropping the class. He can be really rude to students that ask for help (makes them feel like idiots). If you dedicate A LOT of time to this class you may be able to get a B. There is an essay you need to write but he grades HARD (half the class got an F!) Tests are long and hard
Made me interested in the subject. Lectures along with study guide were helpful for tests. 3 tests 1 paper. All worth 100 pts. Most people didn't do well on the paper, I followed instructions carefully and got a 78. The tests matched up to the study guide so I did well in the class (A) I would retake him or refer anyone to take this class.
Great teacher, I enjoyed the class and lectures. However, his tests are extremely misleading. I as an A student kept getting C's on his tests. His questions are like: is the sun yellow, red, orange, or all of the above depending on how you see things? Great lectures and enjoyable class but def hard.
He's funny and awesome! There to help but you have to ask for it. I took a lot of notes when he lectured (optional) and they helped me along with the study guides (also optional). The exams are tricky so going over the textbook also helps. Only one essay but he's a tough grader. Not an easy A, you have to work for it. I'd take him again )
One of the best professors I've had, in terms of knowing the material and making it very enjoyable to learn. He talks the entire class and tries to engage in conversation. I hate history but it was like listening to a story. He uses funny voices and gets into character. He will grade the first short answer very hard but is generous on the rest.
Professor Douglas is really funny. There are 3 exams and 1 take home essay that are both worth 100 points. His study guides are a lot helpful just keep filling them out, study them and an A you will recieve. No curves, HW , or EC. I would recocmmend him to anyone, but don't expect power points, his lectures are oral, so write as much down and GL!
Prof. Douglas is an amazing teacher! Lectures the whole class but makes it very interesting to where you don't want to stop listening. Must go to class or else you'll miss a long lecture! Three tests one mid-term essay 3-5 pages. Gives really good study guide and before class, he lets you ask him an question and will give you a detailed answer!
Professor Douglas is one of my favorite professors at FC! He definitely knows what he's talking about and you can tell he's really passionate about history. He lectures like a story and throws in these fun facts every once in a while and does voices to go along with it. 3 tests and one essay, tough grader on essay, but the class is worth it!
There are no powerpoints for his class, and he does lectures only by tongue. Your grade will be based off of 3 exams and one term paper. Exams are tough. So take good notes, read the text book, and review the study guide. Study guide alone won't help you on the exam. Put a lot of time on the term paper, because it needs to be well-written.
Go to his class, pay attention, take good notes and participate. Boom, pass. In his class you can't just sit there and expect to get a good grade, but if you just take notes and pay attention to everything he has to say it a breeze.
Professor Douglas mainly lectures, but makes his lectures fun (which in turn makes history fun to learn too). He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He goes out of his way to make sure all questions are answered and that there are study aids available to you for the tests!
Your grade will consist of 3 tests and 1 in class essay and there will be a ton of note taking because all he does is lecture. Sounds boring, but Prof Douglas's lectures are very entertaining and he lectures like he experienced the history himself. Great sense of humor! All of what he lectures is on the test, so be sure to show up to class!
Professor Douglas makes history very interesting. He strives to not make it about simple memorizing, and instead teaches it in a way that just makes it stick. Your grade depends only on tests and quizzes so it is crucial you study up. Use a laptop for note taking since his lectures are all oral, he doesn't use the whiteboard or overhead.
Professor Douglas is an excellent story teller. I never thought that U.S. History could be this fun. I wished he teaches more than U.S. History classes!!!
Professor Douglas teaches you history by telling a story rather than dry facts, that really helps you absorb the material. We were given a study guide for each test that if you work through the questions you will come to each exam well prepared. If you are looking for Power Point Lectures go elsewhere. Professor Douglas is a rare breed.
This guy is great! No homework - only three 100 question exams, in-class essay, plus an extra credit quiz. Sends you the study guides so you can fill in answers during lecture. No textbook use. Teaches like he's telling a story, so class is never boring. Funny guy too! Definitely would recommend.
If you like US History you'll love taking his class.
Great professor! Makes history an interesting class involves 3 exams and one essay. Study exams are literally the same as the tests, just read the history book there is no way you cant pass the class unless you're super lazy!
Prof Douglas does not do any powerpoints, solely verbal lectures. My advise to you woild be to read the book, or record his lecture and type them out. This is what I did and got an A, 3 test, almost identical to the study guide, but the study guide isnt easy if you dont take notes from the lecture or read, one essay, and an extra credit quiz!
Professor douglas is amazing i took him for hist 170 and 171.i loved every minute of his lecture. He does not use notes or powerpoints just talks and tells the story of history. He is a must if you take u.s history. Didn't really use the book. Test questions come directly from lecture so don't miss! Ask lots of questions if you dont know the answer
Pure lecture.. which he does a fantastic job at. You really stay involved while he talks because he makes things interesting. TAKE NOTES. If you do not take notes you will not pass the tests. Do the study guide questions as they are almost exact to the tests. No homework which is nice.
I never thought I could ever learn just through listening or stay interested for a four hour class (once a week), but he taught me it was possible. He's such a great professor, really funny. Print out the study guide and bring it to class, fill it out as he storytells in his lecture! The test and study guide are exactly the same, just study that.
I honestly loved his class. Total of 3 tests and one paper. tells it to you like it is (or should I say WAS). (sorry bad joke). But seriously great professor.
He's not that bad, but he's not the best. His lectures can be fun , but they can be boring as well. Tests are hard (if you don't pay attention) so make sure to take good notes otherwise you won't pass. Missing class isn't a good idea either because he doesn't really slow down to let you grasp the material.
If you love history, you will love Douglas. If you hate history, he'll make it easier on you. He loves history and his job and it shows. Lectures are amazing-- he tells history like a story and challenges what you've learned since grade school. Tests aren't bad, and he gives a clear, exhaustive study guide. Only points are the tests and one paper.
So I after decided to pay attention in history class for the first time in my life I could not ask for a Better professor This class was an eye-opener literally highly recommended! Thanks

THE BEST TEACHER I HAD AT FC. This class will completely capture you guys! Prof. Douglas lectures this course as a real story and makes you even wait for the next class to know what's next. He has a huge knowledge in history and will really inspire you. The tests are all multiple choice and straight forward (STUDY!) This class is a real eye opener!
The most amazing history class I've ever had thanks to him. He's an amazing storyteller, and is incredibly engaging. Only 2 tests and a paper, just show up to class, listen, take notes. He sent us weekly mini SGs for the quizzes and had two big ones for the exams. And the cherry on top... he's not so bad to look at twice a week, either.
Super hot! Academically: amazing and engaging lectures! A lot of note taking from the moment class begins to the end but if you show up and listen it's a super easy grade.
Prof. Douglas is my favorite professor at FJC. He lectures daily, but his lectures feel more like stories than lectures. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about history, which makes all the difference. Show up on time and fill out the study guides and you will do well in this class. There are only 3 tests and 1 paper, so dont procrastinate!
His lectures are amazing; its like listening to a good story out loud. However he has no structure to his lecture so he skips around and doesn't cover everything that will be on the tests. There are 3 100-question tests that are hard but he gives big SG. Fill it out during class and w/ book. One 5-7 pg essay that is difficult but he grades fairly
Fantastic lecture. Just listen to his stories in class, and you'll get most of the tests down. His lecture includes humor so it's always fun to have a good laugh in class. Please don't skip, because you'll miss out a LOT! Three tests consists of 100 multiple choice, study guide is provided before each one, and one essay by the end of the semester.
One of the most inspirational and entertaining prof. at FJC! At 8am, lectures kept you on the edge of your seat, as though you watched a movie. This was his final semester at FJC. Thank you Prof. Douglas! Not only did you teach history clearly, but taught important life lessons along the way! Much respect!
This class was awesome. I picked it because I read that there is no homework or projects. Only downside is you have to do well on quizzes (1 a month) and tests (midterm & final) in order to pass. I actually enjoy history so the lectures were interesting to me. Show up, ask questions, read the book. But I will say the 2 tests we by no means easy!
I took Professor Douglas for Honors history 170 and 171. Hes a great lecturer and makes the class interesting. Class consisted for three exams and one essay. Hes a tough essay grader so beware of bad grammar. Do the study guide for exams and you will pass.
First of all, I'm 99.9% this guy is a legitimate genius. His lectures were all my memory as if he was telling us stories. of course, they were accompanied by a very clear study guide. unfortunately, he retired...
Absolutely a genius. Probably one of the best lecturer ever. I was so blessed to have the chance to take one of his class in his last semester in FJC. Much respect for the guy.
I have taken his Survey of US history class a couple of years ago and remember that the class is taught almost all by lecture, so you have to pay super close attention to be prepared for daily/weekly quizzes and one midterm and one final. Overall, nice person and keeps his students engaged with lectures.
