Great professor. I decided to take her for English 102 as well. This class isn't just a walk in the park, as attendance and actual work is required, but, in return you get an enthusiastic professor who's not afraid to let students out early, bring breakfast to class. or get off topic. Actually learned a lot from this class. Worth taking.
Not that difficult. She's a little eccentric, and always reminded me of Miss Frizzle. I would recommend the class to anyone who has to fulfill this requirement.
Interesting class, yet requires attendance and alot of work, but it is worth it in the end. Class participation is strongly encouraged and is a large part of the final grade. She is helpful but difficult to get in touch with.
Excellent Professor! Take if you can. She makes class interesting. There is a fair amount of work - 3 units with one or two feeders each. Nothing outrageous. Class structure is great - our class had the consistent theme of the West Memphis 3 for all assignment. Again, take her class if possible!
I hate english, but loved this class. It was very interesting, & all assignments were based on the West Memphis 3 murder trials. There are 3 big assignments and 4-6 small ones, but none are too hard. She holds office hours a lot and is willing to help you with papers. If you don't usually enjoy english classes, I strongly recommend taking from her.
There's quite a lot of readings, A LOT of class discussion, which i hate. but if you like it, you'll love her class probably
Dr. Frost is extremely helpful. I have never enjoyed an English class so much.
She is really earthy and fun! But she gets frustrated when everyone doesn't participate in group discussion. So if you're not a big talker...don't take her. She has her favorites. Her class really doesn't make sense, but it isn't hard to do well in it. Tons of readings...i never read and I did quite alright!
This class is honestly a lot more work than what I expected for an English 101 class and her late/attendance policy is a bit over the top. In the end, she is a great professor that makes an effort to get to know you and is always available in office hours. The class is intellectually engaging and class time is enjoyable. But, again, a lot of work.
I would really recommend Dr. Frost. She was an excellent English teacher who taught with clarity and provided interesting and accommodating projects that helped me acclimate to college-level work and research. She is experienced and willing to go out of her way to help you. Also very interesting. Ask her about living in Turkey.
Dr. Frost is a great teacher, especially for english 105. She divided are small class into groups and every group in our class got along so well. The class dynamic was great, she often didn't hold class, and was very understanding about assignments. The class only had 3 projects and each was set up very well. Highly recommend her!
Leslie Frost is my favorite professor at UNC. I loved her class she was extremely helpful. Almost all the readings were available online. Take a class with Leslie Frost.
Dr. Frost is the best professor I have ever had! Her class is so much fun, and I learned a lot. I strongly recommend taking her classes!
Dr. Frost is very intelligent, and she strives to have students emerge themselves in the issues they write about. If you put in effort for the class, a good grade can be achieved. I definitely recommend!
Coming from someone who has never enjoyed English, I really enjoyed this class b/c of Leslie. She is an extraordinary lecturer and engages the class in really interesting, deep discussions about the books read. Discussion is an integral part of the class, though you don't necessarily have to contribute. Leslie is easily 1 of my favorites professors
I love this class, Dr. Frost leads amazing discussions and causes the class to feel more like a family. You won't want to miss this class because everyday is pretty much unplanned. You probably won't like this class if you're very shy but she breaks you out of your shell easily!
Love English, hated this class. We never knew what was going on because she was never clear. She never recalled what she said and constantly contradicted herself . Most frustrating class I've ever taken. Take someone else for ENGL105. You can only get an A if you're willing to try to do exactly what she wants (which you will never know).
Worst professor I have had at UNC. Assignments were often unclear. Lecture always seemed unorganized and thrown together at the last min. The majority of this class just involved the students working independently or in peer groups on a semester long project.
Dr. Frost was one of the kindest professors I've ever had. She was great in small setting and is very lenient as long as you show you're actively engaged in the class or at least trying to be. She continued to treat me with the utmost respect after the class was over. Definitely taking another class with her!
Dr. Frost is a wonderful woman. She makes the class feel like a family by the end of the semester. The actual course was fairly easy: just reading plays and writing an essay on four of them. I made an A with only reading a few of the plays. However that limited my class participation which she is big on. At least spark notes them so you can talk.
Truly the WORST professor I've ever had, and the only one to ever make me cry. I came out of that class with less knowledge than I came in with. Very close-minded and nowhere near understanding. Constantly unclear in her expectations from you, and grades are given arbitrarily. I beg you, don't pick her for 105... or at all, if you can avoid it.
She's so unclear with what she wants and seems to be confused with what she is doing at all times. It is so frustrating. Take someone else for 105 if you want to do well.
I'm sure Dr. Frost is a distinguished, cultured professor with a lot of knowledge and good ideas. However, I found our conversations to be very driven by "I'm right and you're wrong." She does not reply to emails, she does not give specific instructions for your assignments, and just overall she's not the kind of professor I enjoy being taught by.
I always looked forward to going to Dr. Frost's class because I never really knew what was coming at us, but it was always a good learning experience and often inspirational. This class was definitely more work than you expect for ENGL105, but I feel like I learned a lot as a writer and as a person from that class. 10/10 would recommend!
Dr. Frost is an awesome professor. Though sometimes frazzled, she's awesome and definitely knows what she's talking about. The class is based heavily on the readings and if you don't do them - you won't pass. But she definitely makes them interesting!
I absolutely LOVED Dr. Frost. She is a funny, witty, lovely woman to have. She is genuine and very caring. One day she brought all of us snacks because she knew exams were coming and wanted us to be okay. Hands down one of my favorite professors here at UNC. If you have the opportunity to have Dr. Frost, please take it!
Dr. Frost is very caring and values class discussion. She puts a lot of work in to making the class welcoming and engaging.
Very unclear about everything and extremely moody. Pretends to be your best friend one day and seemingly hates you the next. Her lectures/powerpoints are useless but the class isn't that hard.
If you like your professor to use your writing for her political agenda, then Dr. Frost is your professor. I didn't really learn much, just had to get through the class. Avoid her for 105 if at all possible.
At the beginning of the semester it was an enjoyable lecture. However, she is extremely scatter-brained and seemed like she was thinking of something else for the latter part of the semester. She doesn't give rubrics for the asssignments and doesn't give clear instructions - but takes off points for not meeting her expectations.
Dr. Frost is a fairly easy professor. Her lectures can be a bit boring, but the assignments are easy and don't require a ton of effort. Overall, I thought she picked interesting plays for the class to read and she's passionate about what she teaches.
I took this class because I heard it was easy from my friends and the ratings on here. Unfortunately, the class and the professor have completely changed. There is no clear criteria for grading and all grades are subjective. She is rude one day and then nice the next, but when she is rude she is very inappropriate. Would not suggest it.
Very rude and disrespectful teacher. Wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable class. Powerpoints are not helpful and paper grading is subjective with no clear expectations of what she wants.
I cannot fathom the reviews I am seeing from my semester of ENGL 126. Am I missing something? Dr. Frost was a wonderful professor. She is always happy and smiling, and she always tries to inspire students to love drama. I can't think of one time that she offended me. She is an amazing professor (P.S. she always has cookies in her office!!)
Really really fun and cool professor. Although she is a little scatterbrained and sometimes does not answer emails, this class was super enjoyable, both the lectures and readings.
Dr. Frost plays favorites very heavily and is a sucket for people kissing up to her. She forces you to write about political issues then judges you if you do not agree with her. My advice is to kiss up to her so she likes you, that's really what matters in this class.
Dr. Frost is a good professor but her directions were never clear for any projects. I suppose I enjoyed her class until the last unit when she dumped five essays and a paper on us with only two weeks left in the semester. Be prepared to write A LOT about politics and climate change. She is caring but definitely not the best professor ever......
Great class! She really cares about your learning. I loved a majority of the books we read (there were seven). She says at the beginning that her class was made for you to succeed. Gave really good writing advice. Grades off of two papers, a blog, midterm, and final. The blog was weighted the heaviest at 50% and the final is only 10%.
Prof Frost is seemingly caring, but you write an absurd amount compared to the other ENGL105 classes. The grading is very subjective, and it helps to be on her good side. Pushes her politics on you often. Directions were often unclear and she seemed to be making stuff up as she went. At one point there was 5 essays due in one week. Avoid for 105.
Professor Frost is one of the rudest professors I have ever had. She is extremely passive aggressive, condescending, and will only give you a good grade if she likes you. She is not understanding when it comes to missing class even when you have a valid reason. She never responds or checks emails. She is very unclear about what she wants. DONT TAKE
she's cool & her outfits are bomb. I would probably give her a higher rating for a different class bc she's obviously knowledgeable. she's the hardest engl 105 prof tho mainly bc she never gave a clear syllabus so u have to keep track of a bunch of due dates that are VERY subject to change. if u do the work & go to class tho u'll get a good grade!
Leslie Frost is simply put the worse teacher I have had at UNC. She does an awful job explaining what exactly she is look for on the assignments that she gives. Gives a ton of work for a class that is one of the easiest at UNC by having almost daily assignments that take very long to do. Class time is pointless and doesn't teach you anything.
Prof. Frost was great for the ENGL89 FYS. While there was a lot of reading assigned for homework, it was mainly for discussion rather than being checked/graded. She's super nice and caring about her students, during quarantine she always asked us how we were doing. She was a fair grader and passionate about the topic! A good choice for VP/US credit
Dr. Frost was great! I had her Fall 2019 and yes, it was a lot of writing, but it was a writing course. She is really genuine and gives really great one on one feedback - if you feel stuck on a topic or need help figuring out how to structure your essays she will happily bounce ideas around with you. Also incorporated UNC events into the class!
COVID Edition: This woman showed so much compassion for us during this time. She was so understanding with tech problems. She can be a bit confusing at times, but she's very approachable so you can ask her to clarify. I had never had a good English teacher before and I think I finally found one. She's supportive and caring!
Dr. Frost is great! I had her for both ENGL 105 and ENGL144 and liked her both times. She makes creative and interesting assignments and grades them rather fairly as long as you stick to the rubrics. I learned more from her than I probably would with most professors. My only problem is that she's kind of disorganized, so be aware of that.
Professor Frost was a really sweet person. The homework is very reading heavy, but the books are interesting and the quizzes are very straight forward. She is a pretty fair grader too. I loved discussion in her class.
Unorganized, pointless class time, took almost 2 months to grade our first projects. Unless you're willing to sit through agony every week and have tedious homework, do not take her for 105.
Professor Frost was so caring and passionate about the topic at hand. I learned so much from this class and it was structured so that we were always engaged. We did unique things like performing in the Forest Theatre and vising Warrenton, NC. She made sure we all knew each other's names, which made our class really close-knit. Highly recommend!
The schedule makes no sense. The assignments also had unclear instructions. She came in one day and told us she has covid symptoms and she sat with someone positive, continuing to have class as normal. Oh also her rubrics were copied and unchanged. Our final about the great depression had a rubric titled "WWI."
Dr. Frost is a character and very entertaining in class. She does her best to make class engaging and grades are very low key in this class. Just do the work and you will get an A.
The class was really easy and for a majority of the class we wrote really short essays and had online quizzes using a textbook every other week or so , we did a lot of group work, she was disorganized but very nice
The work would have been manageable, but she was disorganized and did not answer emails, so we never knew what was due. She did not respect us, and students left crying after meeting with her. She was not understanding about family emergencies, and she graded every person differently. She did not abide COVID guidelines when she was a close contact!
She’s extremely disorganized. Ex: she’d post the assignment for the week an hour before class and then get mad because no one completed it. She isn’t understanding of mental health/COVID guidelines/emergencies. She’s very rude to students. 55% of the grade is put into the last two three weeks of class. I wouldn’t recommend her.
rude to students and quizzes were not straightforward
I loved her class. She is very nice and always has cohesive lectures prepared. Assignments are all fair and she was very considerate. The books we read were all new to me and fun to read. Would recommend this class.
I loved professor Frost! She had a great personality and made class fun. We had great discussions in class where she was very open to hear everyone's opinions. She was incredible respectful and intelligent when discussion hard topics. We read a variety of books that make class interesting and she was not a tough grader. Overall fun class!
She is a very harsh grader and has no idea how to work the technology needed to be a successful professor and lecturer. The group project was unfairly graded with favoritism for a few students. Would not recommend her to anyone. Her feedback is mean and borderline personal attacks. Also, the books we read were horrible. I regret taking this class.
Comes off all nice and bubbly but is actually the opposite. Her choice for books were absolutely the worst possible options, and she fully revolved our READING class around RACE (i am white btw and so is she). She fully acts like a white savior. She legit treats the people of color super different and its weird. She also grades projects sure hard.
Clear bias against certain groups of people.
Terrible professor that seemingly has it out for certain people that she doesn't like (for no apparent reason). Grades too hard and assignment too much work for a 100 level gen ed course.
v bubbly + pretty understanding prof w/ amazing outfits. weekly quizzes are v easy if u do the reading + she picked a nice array of books. however we didn't really watch any movies even tho it said we would in the course description. i personally found her grading to be fair and not hard; however she doesn't provide feedback.
This class is inherently fairly easy to do well in, however, Prof Frost does not answer emails, and takes FOREVER to grade basic assignments. Gives almost no feedback, and when she does is unclear. 50% of your grade is unit projects, so make sure you do well on those. Fairly easy grader thus far, but just not very enjoyable of a class.
English 105 with Professor Frost has been pretty good this semester. The assignments are mostly straightforward and it is fairly easy to get a good grade. The class environment is pretty engaging. Unit projects make up a large percent of your grade so these assignments are very important to do well on. Just show up to class and you will do well.
Dr. Evans is tad disorganized, and her feedback is somewhat limited. She clearly loves teaching and cares about helping students improve. This class did not vastly improve my writing ability, but it had decently interesting projects and easy grading. Bewarned: Dr. Frost like to hide assignments and requirements in Sakai. Check Sakai rigorously.
Frost gives good feedback and is well-experienced, but I wouldn't take her again. Frost constantly confused her students with what was due and due dates. There was lack of communication and this made ENGL 105 much harder than it should be. I had friends that took this required course with other teachers with much less workload.
Dr. Frost will help when you ask questions, but there was a lack of communication within the class. She sometimes believes she tells the class something but no one remembers her saying it which leads to confusion and everyone getting frustrated
All of the work in this class is peer review, the only feedback ever provided is after projects are already done. Requires complete undivided attention at all times so you likely can't even work in the class.
Discussion post, responses, quizzes, and a book club pitch that you do with a group. She takes forever to grade things, often does not know what she has written in her syllabus for due dates. Very rushed content, I was rarely ever to get in contact with her outside of class. Final was to write a three story thesis, when she never taught us that.
It's been 2+ years since I've taken this class and I still remember how Frost went out of her way to personally insult me when she knew I was going through some stuff. She's very passive aggressive and picks on certain students for no reason at all. Takes forever to grade stuff and has extremely vague descriptions for assignments.
The Leslie Frost PHD was an absolutely amazing Professor who cares for her students and the work the produce. Dr. Frost worked hard to ensure that every student had an equal opportunity to participate and even gave students time to catch up on their reading if they had not had the ability to do it.
Dr. Frost is a fantastic teacher with interesting material. She is very engaging, but class participation matters a lot. The more she knows you, the better the class will be. This class is a very similar dynamic to an AP Lit class.
Dr.Frost is very understanding of students circumstances and will try her best to accommodate them. The course required a lot of reading, writing, and class participation was expected. Be ready to for presentations and interacting with the class. Overall it was fun and Dr.Frost has a bright personality and begins every class by playing a song.
While her class is easy, Prof Frost is not a good professor to have. She is very passive aggressive and is inconsistent with her grading. She often goes off in tangents during class which make
Dr. Frost made a required first-year class A LOT harder than it needed to be. No clear instructions/expectations for assignments. The main issue I had with ENG 105i was Frost's passive-aggressive attitude toward students. I will never forget the email she sent hours after the shooting trying (but failing) to assign asynchronous work.
I have never held such animosity towards a teacher/professor like I have for Dr. Frost. She is passive aggressive and rude, and her rubric and instructions are often unclear. She made the class a lot harder than it needed to be. If I could go back in time and change one thing, I would never had taken ENGL 105/105I with Dr. Frost.
She can come off as passive-aggressive and WILL drop your grade as a way to get you to office hours, but if you apologize profusely, you and your grade will survive.
I took Professor Frost's ENGL 105I class for the humanities and it was very unorganized. This was her first year using Canvas so I would give her some grace, but it was confusing to decipher our assignments among other irrelevant things on her site. Each project had expectations with poor explanations, and rubrics were used loosely.
Prof. Frost was nice, but could be passive aggressive at times and you never knew what would and wouldn't disgruntle her. The structure of canvas was weirdly complicated and expectations were often unclear. The class itself wasn't bad - not my favorite but not awful. Homework was not that difficult but there was a decent amount of it.
Professor Frost is not clear at all when making instructions, students easily get confused and are blamed even though it is not entirely their fault. Also, this class includes WAY MUCH MORE HOMEWORK compared to the average ENGL105/105i course. Though it may be an easy A, it is sometimes time-consuming and annoying.
I do not understand the harsh reviews on Dr. Frost. She has clear expectations and is super considerate when needing accommodations. This class is pretty paper heavy but that comes with the territory of an English class. As long as you come to class prepared, do the reading, and write to expectations it is not hard to achieve an A.
I would avoid taking engl105 with her. You'll do well regardless, because this is a first-year course, but she assigns more work than the other profs do. She can be passive aggressive and isn't fast to grade things. She's fine, and I didn't hate the class, but I still wish I went with a diff prof.
guys, do not take class with her. she stresses everybody out by not putting in our grades on time, or fully putting them in wrong. she takes off for being late but won't have grades in until months after an assignment is due. it is so unfair how she operates.
