Great person! The most helpful prof on campus. Looks out for the students!
Ms. Goodman knows more about the academic programs in the Faculty of Environment than all other instructors combined. Excellent academic advisor
Very helpful.
Made most notes available online, which was great if you missed something (tho I wouldn't suggest not going to class :P). Great for answering questions and explaining things during class.
Loved that the notes were mostly online. Definatly made it easier if you miss a class. Good discussions in class, great explainations. Fair tests. Very helpful.
Excellent instructor. Very friendly and helpful. She tries to make things interesting and easy to understand. I highly recommend taking classes with her. She is very nice, but do not be deceived (she is a tough marker! -- which I actually appreciate, because slackers can't coast through while I work my ass off). Work hard, and you're set.
She is so boring. I don't know what it is about her. She's nice, but her lecture style--it just doesn't work for me. The exam was way harder than it should have been, based on the course content.
Very interesting, and talks about local issues too.
Exams does NOT test course content as emphasized by the instructor, but rather chooses obscure facts from the text book. Questions could have multiple right answers. Assignments are easy enough, although not very much guidance is given.
Leslie is a rockin' teacher! She makes it easy because everything is on PowerPoint and WebCT and also uses videos in class. She kept class interesting and always made sure we were clear on things before moving onto the next topic. I did well and never used the textbook. She's always available for help after class or thru email. Higly recommended!!
This professor stayed after class to answer any questions. She was helpful personally and professionally. She'll meet with students even when they are no longer in her classes.
Leslie is a really good prof. Friendly and professional. Seems to care about students and to go that extra step to help.
Dr. Goodman was an excellent prof. I took this course to get an idea of Environmental Science and its now my major. I appreciated that she used powerpoint but she still made it necessary to come to class. If you attend and pay attention it is unnecessary to buy the textbook. Don't be afread to speak up, she appreciates students who participate.
Awesome Prof! She really cares about individual students and wants to see everyone do well. Very clear lectures. Good hints to exam questions if you attend class. Overall, great!
Great Teacher! Always made class interesting. Go to class because she will show videos or talk about certain examples that will be on the exam.
She reminds me of a high school teacher. Extremely nice. Class is engaging and fun to be in. The way she marks things is fair. She had a study review before the exam and brought donuts !! Listen in class and you'll do fine. I'm a HUUUGE fan of this prof! I recommend you take ENVR 1000 or any of her classes. You'll definitely enjoy it!
Really nice prof. Friendly. Wants her students to do well. No text book. Easy particiaption points online. A lot of exam questions come from class and review sessions. you play Enviro Jeopardy for candy.
Awesome! I loved her
Pretty good, wants you to do well. Reviews the material, the final multiple choice had detailed questions, but had easy short answers if you knew the concepts. Parts of the course can be dry, but overall decent course...no textbook which is nice too, although I did buy one, it helped a bit.
Awesome prof! She goes over the concepts until the class gets it; she really seems like she wants the students to succeed! You don't need to buy the text because she has tons of resources online. Her tests can be tricky(multiple choice on the final, I'm looking at you) but if you studied it was ok. A+ prof, would def recommend her!
First of all yum yum. Secondly shes such a good prof, probably my fav on campus
Great Prof! Posts all her notes on line, the textbook isn't needed at all. You do need to go to class though because she explains all of the concepts in further detail. Reviews material from previous class so everyone understands the concepts. Tests seemed hard, but I ended up doing pretty well on them. Highly Recommended
Really cares about her students. All her notes are online and you don't have to buy the text! She makes it very clear what will be on the test (although she kind of thought everyone was cheating during tests...) She made learning the concepts fun and has def increased my interest in the subject. I'm probably going to major in Envr Sci. A+ prof!!
Good speaker, funny and has some spunk. Lots of power point notes though. Know your cycles. No textbook required. Make sure you know your stuff for the final. GPA booster class if you know how to study.
Great teacher! I took her online course and was a bit worried, but she was excellent at explaining her points! Very helpful as well. Make sure to know your cycles very well for the final! Don't bother buying the textbook at all!
Extremely dedicated- sacrafices her own time! Excellent instructor best I've had. also extremely hot which caused uneeded daydreaming.
she posts her notes online, and thoroughly explains everything. She doesn't move too fast or speed up. She's very clear and emphasizes what you really need to know. Don't bother with the textbook, and if you have to miss a couple classes, you'll be fine.
I took the distance ed course for envr 1000. The assignments were easy, but you need to be careful when referencing because you loose a lot of marks if you don't cite your work properly. I found the exam to be hard since it was nothing near the sample exam that she had provided. The exam had a lot of questions that were not in the notes.
Easy assignments but I felt like she didn't communicate what her expectations were on how thorough the answers should be since it was a DE course. That's my only complaint. Thought the content was very relevant to what a person would want to learn about when they sign up for ENV as an elective. Oh beware final exam is hard.
I got a C+ on this course because i was having a hard time balancing 2 courses that time. But i say shes awesome and funny . I wasn't at my best that time because i was still on my first year as a student and the exams was really shocking because i thought i was easy, i underestimated the course ahah, A+ professor and really cool!
Excellent Prof!!! I really enjoyed the class and didnt had trouble studying. Sometimes the exam questions are tricky, you only have to read carefully to make sure everything in the sentence is correct.
Soooo helpful and interesting, made a super boring class so much better. Class seems really easy but she will challenge you on the tests/exams with tricky questions. Nothing unfair though.
Class was easy, I would go to class due to the fact that a lot of the exam questions are what she talked about. Overall an awesome prof, one of my favourites actually. Final exam is easy if you know your stuff
Great prof! Very helpful. Makes the class interesting. I would recommend her to anyone taking environment classes.
The way she teaches the course to become more interesting is undeniable. You can sense through her voice the passion and the love to her profession. HIGHYL RECOMENDED!
Loved this course and great prof!
Really enjoyed this prof. I'd say this course taken with Leslie is a grade booster but be sure to know the material! She's energetic in lectures, helpful after class, doesn't speed through lectures even when time is running out in class which is beneficial because she'll take the time to emphasize on the important things.
Class was pretty boring and repetitive. If get understand the main ideas you'll do fine. Make sure to know the names of important people for the first test!
One of my favourite university profs. She was very enthusiastic about teaching the course and kept you interested. Exams were fair, no big surprises as long as you didn't miss any classes and studied. Textbook was very helpful if the notes weren't enough.
Took this class online in Summer. No Mid term and major discussions (which is good), only 3 monthly assignments but the hw can take some time. Her course notes may be helpful but textbook is required because the test was pretty specific! (Need to read thoroughly and understand the main points). It was a rather hard course for me to take in summer.
Enthusiastic professor. Class is grade booster as long as you study for the midterms and exams. Don't bother buying the textbook because she covers all the testable material in her lectures.
Great professor, she knows her stuff and makes her content understandable to us. There's no need to buy the textbook because she covers all the material in her slides. Midterms and exams are fair and straight-forward as long as you study for them. If you ever need help or further explanation, she's always willing to help. Definitely recommend.
You write about your work experience, super easy!
i took this class last semester and being an A student i ended this class with a C, totally killed my GPA,test questions were EXTREMELY tricky, like if their purpose was to confuse you instead of testing your knowledge on the content, TERRIBLE!
COOP is a very helpful program, everyone wanting to become environmental professionals should take this class. One thing I would be careful of is that she under no circumstances will tell you want coop jobs will be available before they are uploaded. Don't take her advice as gold, realistically she doesn't really care what job you work.
Easiest class ever! She's incredibly clear, you'd need to try to do poorly in her class. She says exactly what's on the midterms, and repeats herself enough so you should never be surprised about what's on the tests. No need to read the textbook, her notes are everything you need, and they're all online.
Leslie was clear on what she was expecting on the course tests and exams etc... She is easy to talk with and is more than willing to help. She made sure everyone knew what was important to remember. I would definitely take another course with her. Some topics for this course were a little boring but otherwise good class to take.
Great prof, know what is in her power points and you'll do great.
Took the course online, it's an easy A. 3 assignments worth 20% each, final worth 40%. The assignments are lengthy, but they're easy to get good marks in if you put some effort. Only negative about Leslie is she wont return your emails. You're encouraged to ask questions in group discussion on JUMP. Final exam was a bit tricky though.
Leslie is a good prof, if you attend class she gives hints as to whats important to know and examples. Tests are part multiple choice, fill in the blank and 1 long answer. Grades fairly, if you study you will succeed.
She was the best professor I had in my first year. Her lectures were clear and her notes were great. Her tests weren't hard as long as you paid attention to the note and lectures. I highly recommend taking her class if you are a first year student.
Took the online course and her notes are super clear and easy to understand. The assignments are easy, unless you save them until the last minute. As long as you do really well on the assignments, it's an easy A.
One of the best profs I've ever had. HIGHLY recommend showing up to class and take notes because her lectures are very important, she talks about a lot of details that aren't on her slides, but even if they are she explains them really well (I guarante you it will help you a lot on the tests). Highly recommended professor A+ also txtbook not needed
Leslie is one of my favourite profs! She's very passionate about her courses and it's very easy to see. She genuinely wants students to succeed and understand but you will have to study and understand the material. Textbook isn't necessary to pass but has really great content not covered in class if you're interested in other environmental topics.
She is a very nice person overall, but I dislike her teaching style due to the powerpoints are vague. Not exactly my favourite professor, but definitely not my favourite. Her material is relatively easy, but her exams are a sometimes very tough. Some questions are quite tricky and fill in the blank is very ambiguous.
Students that complain about her exams being ambiguous or tough do not study or go to class. I'm not the best student but I paid attention in class, memorized her notes, and got an A+ on both midterms and the final. It's an easy class, and more than fair. Don't hesitate, Leslie is awesome!
Shes a good prof, goes over topics multiple times exams are easy and format is mc,t/f and short answer. Would take her again.
Leslie's lectures are straight forward and she knows what she's talking about. If you study and show up to class and learn, you should be able to get an A.
I got to say I loved ENVR 1000. A very interesting course for me because I actually love environmental science. I took the course online and it is a lot of work especially the assignments, but the assignments are fair and not really that hard if you know what you're looking for. I think Leslie is a great profe but the T/F on the final was tricky.
She is an amazing professor. If you attend her classes then definitely you can receive a good grade. I missed a lot of classes and didn't prepare for pop quizzes that is why I got a bad grade on her course. Attend her classes and make notes as she doesn't give her notes anymore though I got them from a friend. Good course to get a good grade.
I took this class as a GPA booster thinking it will probably be very boring but It turned out being very interesting thanks to Leslie. If you study you will do well but for an easy course I would say Leslie makes the exams a little bit harder than they need to be. What I mean by this is that the material is supper easy but she tries to trick you.
She was a good professor. Was quick to respond to emails and was interested in helping students succeed. However, this course is NOT a GPA booster. The assignments are a lot of work and she really nitpicks your answers.
Her online course notes were difficult to navigate, assignments were unclear in the amount of work she was expecting, the final did not represent the core lessons learned throughout the course. Maybe she is good as an in-class prof, but her online material could be improved. At the very least she could provide a rubric for assignments.
Leslie was easily the best professor of my 4 years at the UofM. She lectures very well, often using videos to highlight special topics. Her tests (2 midterms+final) are very fair and straight forward. If you pay attention in class you don't have to study too hard to get an A+, just memorize the definitions and review the big case studies.
Leslie provides a relaxed environment with her laid back attitude. She posts all the notes online and there is no need for a textbook. Make sure to take notes on the videos and attend her lectures as she does put additional notes on the whiteboard. If you study regularly for this course you will do great.
Awesome prof and easy course
Easy course. Prof is quick to respond. All assignments are doable (even though it's lengthy) and it is possible to get full marks on it. All you have to do is to start doing it 2 weeks before the due date. Course notes are okay, there's a lot, so read. Final exam is okay but I felt like much of what I studied wasn't there.
I just think this course is really difficult for me, and I have tried my best to do it, but I can not get a good grade.
Took it online as I heard it was a GPA booster, turned out to be the start of a nightmare. Course notes are in a total mess. Her assigned reading related to each chapter does not correlate for most of the time, so is the assignments. On top of that, I ended up having 3k+ words for each assignment and you call tell it is extremely time consuming.
She looks fine but the actual course was horribly blurry and was not really for international student. To be honest, I liked Environmental science before this course and now I don't, because of this prof. The course need you to write or memorize things on monitor and gives you only 12 min for each page. If you need fair grade, just give up.
Online class was a bit of a handful, as it does require a good amount of effort. Assignments involved a lot of self-research and were lengthy, but the final exam was alright. The exam consisted of mc, t/f, fill in the blanks, and a long answer (which all can be found in the text). If you read/understand the text, you'll do fine on the final exam.
Leslie is a fantastic prof! Although for an introductory course, I found her exams to be a little difficult. I took the class for an easy A, and even with fairly easy to learn material, I really had to work for that A. I would honestly suggest taking it in class over online, as her assignments are fairly time consuming compared to only 2 midterms
Took the class online, had 3 assignments worth 20% each. Fairly easy to get 90-100% on all assignments if you work hard and start early because they are really long assignments and had to use course notes and textbook to find the content. Overall she is an amazing professor and is very helpful if you have specific question about assignments.
I loved Leslie's teaching style. She's so funny. The information in this course was so valuable. The two tests were trickier than the final exam.
What a gal! Great.
Leslie is a great prof. There were 2 tests worth 25% and a final worth 50% (all were moderately easy). There is no need to buy the textbook. Just show up to class, absorb the information, take down extra side notes and review them before the tests and you will do just fine. I took this course as an extra elective and I do not regret taking it.
Leslie's class makes me want to get out of bed in the morning. Her lectures are very interesting and she's good at keeping the class engaged. She's easy to listen to and gives helpful study tips. She offers lots of great learning resources online, making it easy to succeed in her course if you put in the effort. No need for a textbook.
Leslie made the lectures fun and engaging. Her lectures are online and easy to follow and I enjoyed learning the material! Would recommend.
Don't waste your money on the textbook I bought it read it for the first midterm didn't help me at all. ended up not reading for the next midterm and final and finished with a A+ just read her lecture notes and write down the important stuff she says
favorite prof and lecture by far. she makes it fun and she is easy to talk to. 2 term tests and then final exam, no assignments so it is not time consuming. the two term tests were a lot harder than the final exam. gives review sessions for tests. highly recommend.
Just finished the exam 10 minutes ago. Professor Goodman is a very nice instructor. To be honest, this course have lots of things to memory. Not a easy course, but it is helpful. I am the first year Asper student, and I benefit from this course. EX, you can combine this course and GMGT1010 CSR part. However, very good professor.
Very nice.
I've heard its a gpa booster. It's not. The prof is good and lectures are interesting but the midterms and a final were way too hard for an introductory course. There is a big difference between the notes the prof gives and the material she tests students on. Overall, useful class but don't take if you want good grades
if your looking to take a science class for a requirement might as well take something easy (World of bugs)
Though it was supposed to be an easy course I didn't really feel that way because we weren't given any notes. Using a textbook was mandatory which didn't really help because most of the time the assigned readings didn't co-relate. You can do pretty well though if you're good at memorizing without fully understanding the material.
Great instructor, easy material and quite easy exams, if you are looking for an easy A this Is definitely the course.
I find most people posted that the course is difficult and has too much stuff to memorize, but I would tell you that this course is easy for students with science background. This instructor explained everything in detail and provided review questions for you to prepare for the tests and final. She was also an easy grader.
This class was super easy! Her midterms were pretty easy as you were able to explain your answer and get points. although, I found that her final exam was harder than her midterms. Also, dont bother buying the text book. I didnt, and I finished the course with an A. As long as you listen and take notes, youll have all the info that you need.
Topics taught are very interesting, very lecture heavy class, but easy to stay engaged! It helps to study topics on your own time, and to watch videos she provides in curriculum. I found that exams/midterm tests were somewhat opinionated? She's a good prof, and hope to take classes with her in the future.
Leslie is a great professor and a wonderful mentor. She has helped me immensely through ENVR 1000 and also the co-op program. Thoughtful, informative lectures that will leave you wanting more. Chill lecturing style. Easy to get an A if you pay attention and participate in class.
I found Leslie's course really interesting. She communicates very well and posts all the slides online, therefore the textbook is optional. Lots of interesting videos are shown during class which will be questioned on the exam, so you'll definitely want to attend class. She provides a clear outline and a review session before each in-class exam.
Ms Goodman is a really good professor. She does not go through her slides too quickly so you get the chance to take notes. Besides that, she knows her stuff. She will talk about a topic whilst taking examples from real life and explaining it in more detail than the powerpoints. Tries to make jokes as well, which is real nice.
Amazing prof, literally the reason I changed my degree to environmental science. Actually cares about students, exams are kinda difficult, but shes an amazing prof so if anything is unclear see her after class. Also- JEOPARDY! Before exams she plays jeopardy of what you need to know for the exams. She also posts practice tests for exams. Amazing.
A wonderful prof who cares a lot about her students and will go out of her way to help you out with anything you need. Establish a relationship with her and you will go far
Amazing professor! I'm in University 1 and began this semester with an undecided major, but she's the reason why I want to go into either environmental science or environmental studies. Her slides are sometimes really specific or really vague, so make sure you write down what she says during class (i.e. don't skip.)
I really enjoyed my class with Professor Goodman, dont bother buying the textbook its not worth it just go to class and youll be fine. There were 2 in class tests and a final, combination of multiple choice, T/F, fill in the blank and short answer. Pro tip: go to the exam review sessions (the TAs mark a bit harsh and shell likely add marks).
She is been teaching this course for a while so she is taken by the habit. Lectures are boring. Seems easy but exam questions oh boy good luck. No practice questions except open-ended ones before midterms which don't really help with MCQs. she doesn't reply to emails fast and doesn't really care about her students. I don't recommend this prof.
AMAZING PROF!!!!!!!!! I took this course as an elective and it was very enjoyable. It doesn't get too hard if you go to all her classes. She has a great way of describing environmental concepts. I would rate her 7/5 if I could!
I hate online classes, but I really enjoyed this class. Leslie is super helpful at office hours, and responses to emails in good time. Distance was nice because 60% of your mark is from 3 easy enough assignments (I got 100,98,100), and the distance final is supposedly easier. Hard to do the readings in distance though, need self-discipline.
Interesting and relatively simple subject matter. A solid choice if you need a science credit. Explains things clearly and gives fairly engaging lectures. Tests are made of up MC, T/F and long answer questions. Definitely go to class though, she hints heavily to what will be on the exams and talks about stuff that isn't posted on the online notes.
Mrs Goodman knows her stuff. She gives many examples to each term to explain it in a way that's better understood instead of giving normal definitions. You can reach out to her through email any time. She's very understanding and gives great advice and communicates with her students very well.
Her midterms and finals are too intense for an intro class. Took it as a gpa booster but it ended up being one of the worst classes i did on. Her midterms questions and the lectures are completely different.
Hard tests
As a 1000 level course, tests shouldn't be very challenging. In her class, TEST ARE HEAVY her lectures are pretty lengthy and boring. Her slides are not specific so attendance is very important; what she says verbally will probably be in tests. She'll only give you open ended questions as a study tip before tests. Overall, would not recommend.
Midterms and the final was very intense. the questions she were mostly meant to confuse you not to help you do well. her powerpoint are too vague and extremely different from the actual test. And her finals are very tough even if you have gone over the power points many times.
Amazing prof.
Over all, Leslie is a good professor. She is super enthusiastic but its awkward to have to watch her try to get the class on her level of enthusiasm lol.. she does introductions even in a class of 70+ students which is ridiculous but overall her class was interesting and i learned a lot. I found ENVR2000 more relatable/ enjoyable than ENVR 1000.
This is a very informational class. Leslie fits a lot of information into each lecture so you really have to listen and attend class. She has a great sense of humour and always makes things very clear. There is a textbook for this class but I did not buy it, it's not mandatory.
She really is great. You don't have to go to the lectures, but they are very helpful so i would STRONGLY suggest going. She'll tell you "you should probably know this concept for the next test" and then it'll be on there and you'll get it right because you were in class and marked it down. I would suggest studying for the tests, you'll do well!
Dr. Goodman is great prof. She, with others, wrote the textbook. She is a wealth of knowledge. Many things in the course I took was just an overview but still very interesting. I'm not a science major but still followed along easily. She takes the time to properly setup the content online ahead of time, including short videos. Overall great Prof.
Leslie Goodman was an overall great professor. She has review sessions before her midterms and the final and hints at certain things which is nice, but do not study solely based on what she says will be tested, everything she posts on Umlearn does get tested, so study everything! Take this course if you need something to boost your GPA! Easy A+/A.
Very passionate and knowledgable about information. Very good lecture notes and clear information given in lecture.
I took it online before I took it in class. What a difference, She always keeps on track of all her students. She communicates really well and optional meeting reviews. If you have any questions, I can book an appointment with her. Lots of reading tho, 4 assignments were easy BUT time-consuming, so keep that in mind. Exam: M/C, some short answers.
Considering this as my first online course, I find that Leslie was nonetheless available when you are in trouble or in need of clarification. Super passionate about the content at hand. Very lenient on marking assignments and the exam was a breeze. It took me less than an hour. Highly recommend her class for easy A+.
Took it online. Easy to navigate but theres a lot of links to go through. Theres three assignments that are pretty straight forward- easy to get above 90 on them as long as you are detailed and refer to the textbook often
She's great
I heard this is a very easy course for the most students. I believe that too. But how she marked the paper was unfair. For the first semester she gave the questions way easier and the second semester was way harder. And when I asked her for the specific feedback, she didn't reply to my email. I wasn't able to discuss anything for my paper with prof
fantastic teacher and explains things well. if u show up and look over ur notes before a test, youll pass with flying colors. explains how things are connected within the environment very well and really makes sure students understand.
She lectures as to not miss any important details, and will tell you what will be on the exams. Her exams are very fair and not entirely multiple choice, which can be nice. She is kind to individual students. The only thing I disliked is the large amount of videos she makes the class watch.
Took it online as a GPA booster... Little did I know how much of ridiculous marker she is. I got a 90 on the first assignment, and put the same amount of research and effort into the second one, even found the second one easier. She gave me 37.5% on the second. I don't understand how that is logical. Oh, and she didn't bother to reply to my email.
3 Assignments that are easily graded, and criteria is clear. There then is a final that is based off of videos, assignments, textbook, and online lecture slides. Fair grader, and make sure to read the textbook for the final!
Leslie is a rambler, her exams are a mix of mc long answer and short. she hints in class what the long answer questions will be so you have time to prepare, be Clear and write Exactly and ALL of what she taught. Her Mc questions are tough and require analyzation, I wouldn' call this course a GPA booster, yet it took less time than other courses.
Works hard to make course material interesting and understood. Goes over points again and again. Straightforward, few concepts, but grades hard. Overall liked her a lot
Leslie was a great professor. Her lectures were very clear and informative. Even when a few classes had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, they never felt rushed or like she was cramming too much information into one class. I will say that I did have some trouble getting a hold of her to view my tests before the exam.
Leslie is very knowledgable in her teaching, although rushes content prior to tests. She likes to spend too much time on topics that were covered in the previous class. For remote learning, she does not use her camera for her lectures at all, making it really hard to focus. In class, you have to focus on what she says as the notes are very basic.
Easy online GPA booster. Only 3 assignments and a final.
took her class during quarantined fall term. lectures felt everywhere. do not recommend taking during mandatory online classes. would not take again. did most of the learning with the textbook.
I really enjoyed this class, lectures were interesting and she gives a study guide that is relevant to what she will test. I recommend the textbook for this class as it really cements the concepts.
Buyer beware, lol. Prof. Goodman was an okay test but she seemed to lack compassion for her students / the accessibility of everything even considering the pandemic. The course itself isn't hard but the test questions are worded weirdly so take your time reading them.
Took this class online during the pandemic, and I would not recommend taking this online. She posts the notes online but none of the lectures are recorded, so if you miss a class you miss a lot of information. 3 Tests and a final, and she gives study questions prior to tests.
I took this as a distance course during the pandemic. Prof was a very slow grader and rude in the way she told me she didnt like my paper. She was unorganized and gave false promises. Class content is good but I would NEVER take a class with this prof again!
I took this class as a distance course and would not recommend. If it's available with lectures or in person it should be better. The material was too dry for me considering it consisted of 2 tests, 2 papers and 1 final but is pretty straight forward if you study. The textbook helps but is not really needed.
I took this course last fall and Leslie was amazing. Her lectures were very interesting and the material was straight forward. Tests were pretty easy as long as you went to class and paid attention she basically gave all the answers. I never read the textbook as her lectures were sufficient. She's also very funny and entertaining. Highly recommend
Leslie is an amazing prof, I haven't finished the semester wither yet, and not even sure if I am going to pass, she is amazing she's really passionate about enviro and she is such a nice person, the tests are pretty tough and worded weirdly but she does her absolute best to get the material across. I haven't had such a nice teacher in a while.
Dr. Goodman is passionate about her field and certainly imparts that on her students. I have thoroughly enjoyed her lectures. A word of caution: her tests are about application. Memorization won't get you very far. Make sure you really understand the material and be prepared to use lots of critical thinking! Textbook isn't necessary.
Leslie is very passionate about her field and made it easy to be engaged in the material even when classes are online. Shes willing to help and gives good explanations on everything when you need help! I would definitely want to take a class with her again!
Leslie was awesome. I took her class before the pandemic and I thought she was very interesting and engaging to listen to. She was more than willing to answer questions and she came off as someone who really enjoys both her area of focus as well as teaching others about it.
She uses a very old textbook because she wrote it. Therefore, students who have taken the course cannot be informed of the latest information. Tests also create a lot of overly vague problems. He is one of the worst professors I have ever experienced.
I loved Leslie! Her lectures were always very interesting and she was very enthusiastic about the topics she was teaching, which made online class easier to go to. Don't buy the textbook! She was a co-author of it and the text does not provide much other relevant information. Tests were quite hard as she used Respondus (no open book!)
I really wanted to like prof Goodman but classes were sooo hard to stay engaged with. She never turned her camera on and didn't annotate slides, so class was just a voiceover of her flipping through powerpoint slides and reading them. I enjoyed the material but found myself wanted to press that little red 'leave' button too many times.
I enjoyed Leslie and Rick's class. The lectures made sense, the information flowed, clear links could be seen between chapters and the grading is fair. However, the lectures weren't recorded which was a bit unfair for remote learners since our absence meant we only had the self-knowledge checks to guide us. All in all, I'd recommend the class!
You're basically on your own. I sent her an email and I haven't heard back. Her main contact is through email. She has specifically said she can be reached by email. She is a har grader and the material in the tests are not related to to the content that is presented in class. Her test have very bad wording , making you contemplate your answers.
Horrible class. Teaching style is outrageous and she is not very polite to students. Would not recommend taking this class.
The final grade was determined by 3 Exams and the use of Packback- a subscription you pay 30$ out of pocket for you to use, no exceptions. The class average on the first test was 65%. it was widely agreed upon through the class that the grammar and spelling of the questions on the test were humorously bad and simply disrespectful towards students.
She goes over class so much (153 mins total from the start of the class course to now) she forgets to record, the test itself was nothing like the review, had Grammy called errors, doesnt answer our questions when we ask or ignores them I took this class because I THOUGHT it would be fun and a nice booster for my gpa, No, Absolutely not
Leslie at first seems passionate about her teaching and lectures but over time proves to just ramble over the same slides multiple times. Her tests are unreadable and barely understandable. First test class average was 65% and most failed. When approached about general understanding she gets defensive and says we just dont know the material. 0/10
The course is so hard for me like literally I took this course to boost my GPA not knowing its going to bring my GPA down. Also not everyone likes using lockdown browser because some teachers actually feel the pain of students using lockdown browser. For me and a couple of my colleagues we literally have anxiety and other issues.
She doesnt seem to care about what the students say her tests are very confusing and had very bad grammar and spelling. When asked and confronted by students she blamed them and said they didnt study the material enough when most of the class agreed it was confusing. Very unclear.
Her tests are difficult to understand, as she makes many grammatical errors&when told about it by many students, says its an issue of us not understanding the material. Not very approachable. Her notes are really bad & her lectures are hard to pay attention to because she just rambles with her camera off. Heavier course load than my core courses.
Rambles and goes over time during lectures, misleading marking with discussions, big work load, bad teaching style, wouldn't recommend taking for an easy going science class like I thought it would be!! More like science hell
This professor has completely changed the way I feel about environmental sciences. I am anxious going to class as I know we wont cover what is needed for tests. The class average on our first test was 65% with many fails. The program we are forced to buy is 30$ but really doesnt add anything to the course whatsoever Pointless and Anxiety inducing
The course work and reading seems east but the tests are nothing like the coursework, which is quite unfair. She even makes test reviews which I complete and understand well which end up being nothing like the test, which makes absolutely no sense. Can be quite rude when emailing, ex) saying she sent out material or emails when she clearly did not.
Ive had a good experience being in her class. She gave good feedback on test and offered students to meet to discuss marks. She does talk a lot and it can be boring, however she gets to the point and answers questions. Having to get packback was a bit annoying but other than that no bad comments.
Not happy with Leslie as a professor. She asks for opinions on the way the class should be accommodating after the strike but then gets frustrated when students give their real opinions. Fighting in the classroom chat happened as well. Her exams are hard, packback is easy. Wish the class was a bit better for students.
She went on strike and back before final exam period, gave us a few weeks to finish half a course content, asked us to do one test, and 4 Packback discussions every ten days during final exam period and even beyond, final exam after winter break. She asked us for opinions and then got offended, did not change a thing. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Her lectures are heavily pictured-based. Leslie is good at explaining things, understands the content she is talking about. She tends to go over class time. This class is interesting, eye-opening if you listen to what she has to say.
Lectures are unbelievable long & frankly pointless. Test review provided is rarely reflective of the test and the mandatory packback disscussion add more stress to this already stressful course. Took this because I was geniuely interested in enviormental science and I thought I would enjoy as a booster course, but it's been nothing but a mess...
Leslie's lectures were a bit boring, but she knows what she's talking about and uses a lot of real-world and local examples, with more pictures than words. I thought all those packback assignments were a bit pointless, but i'd rather do them than tons of textbook readings.
This is the worst class and prof I've ever taken in u of m, and she doesn't care if a students fails or succeed, very rude, she the only prof I know that gives make up test and says only Students who missed the first test are allowed to take. She's the only prof that uses lockdown Browser and says you can't go back to a previous question. Run away!
I advise you all to take another prof or else you would fail this course, I just took the course for a credit, she very rude and doesn't care about her students success, she uses lockdown browser and says you can't go back to a previous question if you want to skip it, you'll be time conscious always. You just have to pick an answer or you fail.
Content is very easy (especially if you have taken ecology and other uni courses) if you study properly, but Leslie is pretty rude tbh, doesn't reply to emails, and SOME questions on her exams are clearly worded with intention for confusion rather than testing knowledge. Overall interesting and easy course but if you can take it with another prof.
Ill be honest, i thought i was going to fail this class. I cried during the proctored exam and had a anxiety attack afterwards. Leslie loves what she teaches. but she is not good at teaching it. she assigns 3-5 videos a unit some are up to 45 minutes long. her tests questions are worded terribly, and not from the review questions. just dont do it
While it is clear that Leslie is very passionate about what she teaches, she does not engage with the students at all. The test are worded poorly and proctored, but if you study, her classes should be easy enough to pass. If taking ENVR1000 you will not have to buy a textbook, but you will have to buy a $30 subscription to an online forum site.
Little to no care for her students, her wording on tests was atrocious and made little to no sense even with studying the material and putting this class a #1 priority, the lack of textbook was made up with vides that could be over 30 minutes long or more. Interesting but take it with someone else to avoid the unorganization & frustration
Leslie is a kind individual who is extremely passionate and knowledgable about environmental sciences - it's great to have a professor that's engaged in the subject material! However, this class was unorganized with unclear criteria for discussion posts and sequential, proctored testing where students couldn't display what they learned effectively.
I took this course online because I needed an extra science credit. It was the most difficult course I've ever taken, not because the content was difficult to understand, but because the tests were super tricky. Leslie gives no clear guidelines on what's going to be on the exam, and some of the exam questions were not even covered in the course.
I think the content was actually interesting and I learned more than I've learned in other courses. However, Dr. Goodman made this a poor experience. Her recorded lectures did not match with her live lectures which made content inconsistent and difficult to study. Had incomplete notes and refused to provide feedback on any grading and was rude.
I'm just shocked at how bad the quizzes were, the questions were so confusing and I got lost halfway through them, you cannot go back and forth between questions, you have to use lockdown with a camera and you have 50 mins ONLY to do them (all worth 15%).
I found her online lectures boring and it was very hard to pay attention. She crams a lot of information into her lectures and she also goes over the class time quite frequently. There are 3 tests and a final exam so tests are heavily weighted. If you miss a class you basically miss 20 PowerPoint slides. And I found it hard to contact her.
Leslie is very passionate about anything environment-related. However, a number of her lecture slides are of low relevance and she has a tendency to go off on tangents, so listen carefully and take note of important concepts. Keep studying until you understand specific ideas well enough to explain them, and try to memorize certain lecture examples.
I do not recommend this professor.
Leslie is exceptionally knowledgeable and her lectures prove it. She will tell you what will be expected on the tests and how they will be graded. Super enjoyable to listen to and made the topics fun. The course only grades on couple of tests and a final exam so take that as you will.
This course is super interesting but prof is disorganized The course outline did not align with the course schedule. She used an outline from this course she taught previously. 2 days before a quiz she tells us she forgot to include a unit for this quiz which had to be rescheduled two weeks before our final exam worth 40% of our grade.
ENVR1000 was my favourite course from my first semester. Leslie Goodman makes class very fun and interactive. Beware: she did not have office hours and was unreachable by email. Her tests can also be tricky, but lecture attendance makes them much easier. She would be the perfect prof if she made her feedback more available.
This course is very interesting but the prof is super disorganized. If you love to read, then that is all you will be doing. Two days before a test, she emailed the class to let us know forgot to assign a unit so the test was rescheduled leaving 11 days to our final exam worth 40% of our grade. I would not recommend this prof.
Leslie is one of those profs that you can tell cares about her students and is passionate about material.Always ensured questions were answered clearly. She drops hints about whats gonna be on exams during lectures and it made narrowing down study material for the exam really straight forward. Supplementary videos and attendance are really helpful.
Seems nice person and I have heard many good things about her but she lacks effort needed to teach this course. Very disorganized throughout the whole term, nothing is loaded on time making it impossible to be ahead. If you plan to take her online course she cannot be reached by email. Would not take this class, especially online!!
I really enjoyed the contents of this course and Leslie was a great instructor. The textbook wasn't mandatory but there is one available. You just need to show up to lectures, and watch the extra videos she supplies.
If you like your peace of mind, don't take this course from Leslie, that's all I am going to say
knows her stuff, good lectures.
Really enjoyed Leslie's lectures. Included lots of interesting case studies. There were two midterms, 25% each and a final worth 50%. Exams were multiple choice plus one long answer question. Make sure you know your stuff for the long answer! You have to really exhaust all the info to get a good mark.
I took it online but my experience was: quizzes, bogus assignments, rude professor and overall the worst class I have ever taken. I got a C+ and that was after countless hours of studying.
The prof speaks very quickly, so it can be hard to get all of the information. Sometimes it feels like she thinks that because she has taught this class so long that she doesn't need to change anything about it. I had a hard time keeping up and getting all the information and expectations on the course requirement. She can also be hard to reach.
Lectures were clear and easy to take notes. Slides were posted, but she elaborated in class. Would recommend this prof. The tests were fair, although some of the multiple choice questions were frustrating with options like "more than one of the above are correct". Lots of videos to watch out of class. If you put in effort an A+ is totally possible.
Took course online and prof was hard to reach considering emails were the only point of contact. The course is content-heavy and some units had assigned readings and videos that could add up to 2-3 additional hours of coursework. Quizzes had unnecessary and poorly written questions (grammar). Class averaged under 75% per quiz.
Professor Goodman's ENVR1000 class was a mixed bag. While the content was interesting, her teaching style and lack of availability made it a challenging experience. Lecture attendance is key, as the tests can be tricky. Unstuck Study AI was a lifesaver for study prep.
Envr 1000 is the most unnecessarily hard intro course to ever exist under this prof's direction. Textbook is "optional", but the one picked is outdated and no alternatives are provided, you're just supposed to figure it out. Trick test questions. Extremely confusing to figure out what information you're supposed to remember.
had only tests and an exam. Hard to get ahold of as she doesn't respond to emails. Heard nothing about the exam until the week before. Gives “study questions” for the tests. Except they don't apply has the questions have nothing to do with the test or the test is to specific. Making the study questions a waste of time. Do not recommend online.
I took this as an online course and grading was only based off tests and an exam, no assignments. Textbook readings were assigned for each unit, but there were summarized notes available for each chapter which was appreciated. However I disliked how I was unable to review my tests to see what I got right or wrong.
Worst grade I've ever gotten in university, terrible professor.
Does not respond to emails, content and tests are completely disconnected from each other. Worst class you could ever enrol yourself into. Avoid at all cost.
Great prof! You definitely have to come to class to do well, her notes are pretty bare and need to be filled in. She does emphasize important topics a lot, so there are no surprises on tests/exams. Enthusiastic about course material, cares about students.
Not taking her course ever again
