She is the best!! You cannot get bored in this class. Leslie takes time to show you something if you don't understand it and organizes study sessions for the class. If you have the chance to take Leslie, take her!!
Very good teacher. Can tell that she enjoys her job. Which makes students want to learn the material. Very interactive!
Wonderful teacher. If you put forth the effort, you will make an A (unlike taking Andrews for BY 115, where an A is virtually impossible!)
She'll help you out anyway she can. Makes the class interesting!
ms. hendon is the best bio teacher at uab. her lectures are fun and her test are pretty easy also. if you have any question on a test she will help you.
The best teacher I have ever had.
GREAT teacher her lectures are fun and exciting! With anyone else the class would be very hard, but she makes you want to learn! TAKE HER
pretty good teacher...very friendly and nice
So energetic that it is contagious!!! I loved her. She made the material so much fun to learn. She is the best teacher at UAB!!!
She is by far the BEST teacher I have ever had at UAB. She is so much fun and makes the material easy to comprehend. She will love you forever if you bring her a Mt. Dew and some chocolate. Take her class I swear you'll love her.
Very fun and energetic. She is good at explaining and pointing out what is on the test. She is always willing to help.
She was a great teacher! Take her if you can get into her classes, but beware- they fill up fast! She will pass you if you show effort and befriend her. She is a very sweet woman, and loves to help underpriviledged people. She goes on many mission trips around the world (you can go too!)
Hendon is great she gives many chances to pass her class. If you come to class you can gain bonus points. You will have to study so dont think she is that easy that you wont have to come to class. I made a B in the class and I am horrible at science
hendon is CRAZY and very enthusiastic but isn't a great teacher b/c all she does is read the notes directly from the powerpoint and fairly quickly. tests are pretty hard and cover TONS of material. she is just as hard as andrews.
Very helpful, very patient. Tests are hard, but she grades very leniently. She makes lab fun and interesting.
Leslie is a great teacher. Her test are hard and they are long, so you will have to study. She is very helpful though and makes lab and lecture fun. I honestly think she is the best teacher i have ever had. I did better in her class than i did in my highschool anatomy class.
Very fun and interesting. To tromp through hills and hollows with trips to the Cahaba. Leslie is a great teacher that goes above and beyond what most professors are willing to do. If you need upper level lab hours give this class and professot a shot.
Awesome!!!
She teaches a monster of a subject, but is an brilliant teacher and a cool person. What a hoot! She's a pretty lenient grader too. (And she brings candy to class on test days!)
Leslie is a great professor. She is the best anatomy professor at UAB. Tests come from mostly the stuff in her lecture notes. Test are Fairly easy but cover a lot of information. So just study a little bit everyday and you'll do fine. Do not read everything in the book...
She is an amazing teacher. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students, and will help anyone to succeed in her class. She will make you love Human Anatomy if you didn't already, and if you already do, she will make you love it even more. I cannot recommend her enough.
This class was great. Leslie really went out on a limb to teach us the information. Lab is hard but if you go to class anything not understood would be cleared up by Leslie. Best Anatomy teacher in the world. Take Leslie and save yourself the stress.
She talks really simple in class and uses slang....but there is no slang on the test so read the book
Leslie is a ok teacher. I made a B in the class so it wasn't that bad, but she is sort of passive aggressive. If you make her mad then she won't help you or if you try to get away with something sneaky you better watch out because she'll get you for it. she's a good teacher but she draws the class out too much. Wastes alot of time in lecture.
An amazing teacher, you can tell she loves what she does! Definately a hard class, as it should be. She is able to explain everything in "stupid people" terms. This is a class that you need to study for, go to class and read the book and your set!
The BEST teacher I have ever had. The nicest teacher i have ever had. The best class i have ever had. She goes along good with the text book. She is interesting, fun, and crazy (in a good way). She is consistent. I loved this class.
The class was fairly easy. Her notes come directly from the book. She makes the material interesting. However, she can sometimes be quite rude. She should leave her rude attitude and mood swings at home. I rarely studied and I got a B in the class.
Leslie is the person you want to take for Anatomy. Go to class, take good notes, and I found it helpful to recopy my notes so the topics were all in one place. She holds study sessions. GO TO THEM. She makes it worth your while. She's a very fair grader also. Don't wait until the night before to start studying either.
Not a very nice teacher nor was she very good...i pretty much taught myself anatomy. If you have any questions, she would not help you. Seriously..do NOT take her.
She does have mood swings, but she teaches (and substitute teaches) almost every biology class on campus! I learned a lot from her Vertebrate Zoology lab, and I wish I had her for Anatomy =)
Dr. Hendon is one of the best professor I have run into at UAB so far. Read the chapter BEFORE class. Go to her study sessions - she literally says its an overview, but it is the test almost. She is fun and funny. She teaches so many classes so she is busy but if you go to her she is extremely funny and helpful. UAB needs more professor like her.
She's just GORGEOUS!! She's a great person!! Funny as hell!! Very, Very helpful!! She made the class SO interesting!! Sure, she is busy and she can't help you much during normal semesters.. And she can be tough!! However, I will just say this!! Take her!! And you will absolutely adore her!! I will take her as many times as I can before I graduate!!
Wow, I had Hendon while others had Andrews. The subject material is a lot to remember, but she makes it so much easier to learn. Just the class is entertaining. One of the greatest teachers at UAB. She makes sure all of her students are understanding and will set time aside for group study sessions. LOVE HER! :)
Leslie is Amazing. The only thing is you have to study for it, SI really helps. She loves her job and is a lot of fun!!
Hendon is great! She is soooo sweet and always willing to help you. She offers her OWN review sessions, which most professors, do not. GREAT! Read the material and pay attention in class! :)
Good attitude. Teaches quickly. Doesn't mind questions. Have to study for your grade. Book very helpful.
Leslie is awesome. She even gives review sessions and bonus quizzes. She is always fair about giving points if a question is unfair. We got 3-6 extra pouints on akkl our tests. Its a lot of stuff so go to class, read, and go to Kirsten M's SI.
Hendon is good, everyone knows it. But as nice as she is, kids need to get their s#$t straight. This class is designed to weed out kids who still think they are in high school and think they can just breeze into nursing or med school. If you play on myspace or facebook in class, you will not do well.
Dr. Hendon is a very solid instructor. If you're truly interested in medicine, you will love this class as much as I did. The lab is tougher than the lecture, though neither one is a joke. Hendon is a good, energetic instructor who keeps a quick pace. She's not afraid to throw a little bonus out there every once in awhile either.
Awesome Teacher...Engaging and Interesting!
She is very helpful and her tests are not tricky. Don't depend solely on powerpoints. Read the book and study mainly from it.
Best teacher at UAB. Truly cares about her students and will help you out in any way she can! Its a hard class but hendon makes it interesting and fun. She also gives lots of bonus pts. She is totally fair on tests too. If a bunch of people miss the same prob. she will throw out that question! Take her if possible!
I loved Dr Hendon!! She is one of the best biology teachers and LOVES what she does!! she is so enthusiastic about what she's teaching that it makes you really interested even if you weren't to begin with. I would HIGHLY reccommend going to class and reading the book. I made a high A in Lecture and is because I never missed a class and did her guid
I wish every teacher had her passion for teaching. She is hilarious and I reccomend her highly!! I'm sure you've heard the Anatomy horror stories, but in her class she gives SO many opportunities to succeed. Word of advice: Make the lab book your Bible for the semester... no, seriously.
Leslie is the best! Though I just took the lab, she made it fun, interesting, and all that good stuff. She's hilarious and passionate. DEFINITELY recommend her, one of my favorite professors!!
I was dreading taking this class over the summer but Ms. Hendon made it a fun class. I enjoyed taking this class and I wish every teacher had her passion for teaching! She is hilarious and I highly recommend her! Study the lab book and pay attention and you will do great! She is extremely helpful!!
I've had Leslie for a couple of classes and every one of them have been extremely wonderful. The class itself isn't the easiest, but she gives you everything you need and will do just about anything to help you do well in the class. By far the best professor I've had at UAB, and I'm a senior Biology major.
Take her! One of the best at UAB, no doubt! Difficult and intense class, but Leslie teaches In a way that is encouraging and easy to follow. Great personality, knows students names (even with 150+ in a single class). Very approachable. Her review sessions are definitely worth it. She will definitely make up for the rude lab Coordinator and TAs.
Leslie is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Her interest in the subject is refreshing and encouraging. She piqued my interest in anatomy and because of her excellent teaching and interest, I made a high A in the class and was asked to be a TA. HIGHLY recommend her.
Leslie Hendon is one of the BEST professors at UAB! I loved her class, and i actually really hate science. She keeps me interested every week, and her tests cover what was covered in lecture. She's really funny and a bit goofy, but I promise you will look forward to her class! Definitely recommend her!!!
I love leslie. She is the best teacher at UAB. She is very clear and her powerpoints are easy to follow. She is also funny and very helpful.
The first day she will warn you that only about half of you will actually make it through this class! I personally thought lecture was harder than lab, but it is important to study for both. If you study the notes she gives you and put in enough study time there is no reason you shouldn't make it through this class! She is very smart and helpful!
This is a challenging course, just make sure you study everyday or you can easily fall behind. Overall, I enjoyed the challenge but wish someone had told me how hard it was going to be before.
She was one of the best professors in my college career up until this point. She gave plenty of chances so that everyone, even slackers, had a chance to do decently. I did not even purchase a book for this course and came out with an 'A'. Only needed to study week in advance.
She is the greatest ever. Go to class, learn her slides, and you'll do well if you put in the time.
I loved this professor in class. She's hilarious and very entertaining. Her online lecture quizzes are really hard because the answers are rarely actually in the book. I found out on our last quiz that MANY of the questions were word-for-word off of the website Quizlet. Not really sure why the answers came from there and not our book.
Dr. Hendon is an excellent professor who is worth getting to know. She will help you with anything and is very understanding. I opened the book maybe once. Tests come straight from her lectures and power points. Her tests are difficult and require lots of studying, but you will learn a lot.
Professor Hendon is a wonderful teacher. Yes, the class is very difficult but if you work hard you will do just fine! I thoroughly enjoyed anatomy and I learned so much. Leslie is also very funny and her lectures are enjoyable. Go to class and do the work and you will do fine!
This class requires A LOT of studying& reading! Attendance is a MUST for clicker points!I took the class spring14 & ended up with a B! All the exams were online THANKS to snow storms! Unfortunately if you take BY 115 at UAB you MUST take BY 116 too! I'm a Nursing major who transfered to TROY Univ. wayy easier here, I have 103% average in A&P class!
She does an excellent job of teaching. Very passionate about what she does. Always very approachable and willing to help in any way possible. She can be a bit redundant and you must attend class but otherwise the class wasn't too bad. It's difficult, but that's college.
Leslie is an AMAZING professor! I was in her Anatomy class that had over 300 students in attendance. She still knew me by name and was glad to answer any questions that I had. She talks extremely fast and runs through the slides, so be sure to bring a laptop to class to keep up. She is also very good at making complex ideas seem super simple.
Leslie Hendon is a great teacher but you will have to work your butt off to pass. She makes the class more bearable though. Study every single day (for lab and lecture)! Utilize lab ES.
Is this even a real class? Take her environmental class if you are only taking a science because you have to. She's sort of all over the place, but it's pretty entertaining. Tests were all given online with no time limit, just as long you did them within the couple of days that they were posted.
A piece of cake. Easiest class I've ever taken by far. All the tests were online, and there was little to no homework. Very goofy professor. The only part I disliked was that she was a bit all over the place and oftentimes struggled to maintain control of the class.
This is a tough class, but Leslie brings LIFE to Anatomy and cares about her students. She made the constant studying just a little bit more bearable by always being upbeat and positive. She is very knowledgeable, always available to answer questions, and truly makes sure you learn the material for you to pass... Why is Lancaster even a thing?
Makes you PURCHASE some half-assed start up participation program so she can talk all period without any interruptions.
This could be an EASY science credit, but was also a really cool class. All online tests & attendance wasn't mandatory, & she uploaded PPTs, which she guided her in-class lectures by. She makes environmental topics understandable and meaningful, and has service learning as part of grade. Would definitely take again - she is awesome!
The environmental science tests and quizzes were entirely online, you really don't have to go to the lectures because you can open and close the test as often as you want and you have the entire week to complete it.
Leslie is something else, she's a really easy professor and all of her tests are online. Somedays she is lecturing the whole time, others she's riding a scooter around the classroom. This is the class to take if you have to take a science but don't want to.
She's absolutely amazing and cares so much about people. I was worried about what to expect. It's all scientific, there is some volunteering involved, not many assignments. It's so worth taking this class just to see the hilarious stuff she'll say or do next.
no extra credit but you wont need it. suggested we buy book online, I didn't buy the book and still got an A. Attendance is not necessary but GO TO CLASS she is awesome! Few HW assignments. Everything due online, this includes HW and test. the 2 test are open notes. She requires 6 service learning hours and a small report.
Dont take this class if your time management skills suck. Exams and quizzes are online, available for 3 days, no proctor needed but the work is time consuming. Book isnt needed but youll have to buy a $25 program for discussion purposes. Labs dont coincide with lecture and they require you to be outside a lot. Attendance isnt mandatory.
Anatomy is a tough class. Leslie does her best to cover all the chapters before the test, but often there is just too much material to cover. She tries to make lectures fun, and her lectures are super interactive! But she's also a bit scatterbrained. She's super approachable, but if you like structure and predictability then she's not for you.
Leslie has good intentions (ie. tries to finish lectures in time), but tends to fall short. EXTREMELY scatter-brained and hard to follow sometimes, but a great person outside of that. Attendance isn't mandatory. No book needed; HEAVILY lecture/study-guide based. Take Lancaster if you want to retain what you learned. No extra credit opportunities.
Love Love Love her lectures. She is the greatest ever. Go to class, learn her slides, and you'll do well if you put in the time.
Leslie is all over the place and super hyper but she really is not a bad teacher. There is A LOT of information, I mean a lot, to cover and she does her best. Her tests come from the quizzes she posts, the SI worksheets, and her extra sheets she posts, so take advantage of them. Make quizlets for her power points.
Hendon is hilarious lecture professor, but if you really want to understand your information, take someone else. She is an easy professor with HARD material that she hardly covers. Learned way more from lab. However, the students in lab who had a different professor were better prepared.
She is very sweet and funny. Her lectures were funny but because she's so talkative and all over the place, she does not finish on time and skips a lot. As long as you study hard in lab, do the SI worksheets, do the quizzes real good, and review anything extra she posts, you'll be ok. This class is hard bc it's a lot of info, it's not her fault!
She is a good professor despite being all over the place. Attendance isn't mandatory but you probably should because she tells the answers to the quiz and sometimes to the test. Make sure to study the mock exam by SI and her review questions on canvas. Overall, her class is all right if you apply yourself.
Ms. Hendon is very nice and accommodating towards her students. There are very few assignments, only monthly discussions, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. There is a textbook but you won't need it. As long as you pay attention during lecture and review the PowerPoints, you'll pass. She's also pretty funny and loves to show you her different animals!
Professor Hendon can be a lot sometimes. She tends to be all over the place. She is the sweetest person on earth. I love her crazy personality it makes class more enjoyable. A few tests and quizzes. Not bad at all!
I am taking BY 108/109 with her. BY 108 isn't that bad. The problem is the BY 109 lab. She appointed a lab TA who is really stubborn and isn't good at her job. We get these ridiculously hard labs every Sunday and they're often very complicated with unorganized instructions. For example, we have to write a paragraph with 5 dif. sources about a tree.
She goes on long complaining rambles about the same thing multiple times throughout the lecture, getting completely off topic. She doesn't know how to work technology. She got mad at the class for emailing her saying we couldn't hear bc she isn't holding the mic to her mouth. She went on a tangent saying we all wanted her to just stay in one place.
I enjoyed Professor Hendon overall. Although she tends to get off subject a lot, you can learn a lot from her. She is very caring and is willing to work with students when unfortunate circumstances arise. Lecture, pack back, and powerpoints are all essential to pass but the material is fairly simple.
Easy A. Weekly discussion posts. She does seem to take personal offense to people not showing up to class (even though attendance is not mandatory) and will complain about it for up to 10 minutes at a time. Sometimes makes the lectures tense and uncomfortable for the people that DO show up.
Very cool and passionate teacher. Not the greatest communication when it came to lab things, but was always understanding and does her best with technology. Packback questions really enriched the course, though I would have preferred clearer guidelines regarding due dates
Professor Hendon is funny but she is very sporadic and goes off-topic frequently. You can ask her a question and she responds with something completely unrelated and then goes on yet another tangent. Her expectations of what we needed to know were never clear. Her tests aren't timed so that was nice, but that was the only good thing about ENV 108.
She is a very nice lady and her lectures are always interesting. She's not the greatest teacher and she often goes off on funny tangents. The class is graded on weekly discussions, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. They're all easy! She lets you look over the slideshows + use google + it isn't timed. Super easy A.
The lectures are basically empty, I think like 20/120 people in my class usually showed up, but she usually gave extra credit like every class for people who showed up. The only homework is weekly packbacks and open note tests like once a month. Very easy, low effort required.
Dr. Hendon is a great professor, but she often gets sidetracked during lecture and seems to not always have a handle on her lesson plan. Otherwise a very easy and straightforward class!
