I LOVED HER, She made me fall in LOVE with organic chemistry. If you have the chance to take her for a class, DO IT. She loves teaching and her energy really makes the class worth going to. PLUS she gives alot of extra credit.

She and her husband were the best chem teachers I've ever had. Tries her best to keep students entertained through what would be terribly boring lectures, take her class.

Dr. Knecht is by far one of my favorite instructors at Miami. The combination of her and her husband made me fall in love with Organic Chemistry and change my major to Chemistry. She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is beyond helpful during class and in her office hours. If you have the chance, definitely take her.

However, she is very approachable and always more than willing to clarify a concept/question during her office hours. Go to class, because she sometimes gives EC and test hints!

Be warned, the class is HARD and you basically have to dedicate your entire life to chemistry, but she is the most willing professor I've ever had & will do whatever it takes to make sure you know the material. Chem/orgo are not the easiest classes, but with her as your instructor, going to EVERY lecture, attending office hours, and doing assigned book problems, you will be more than fine. Tip: Write down her "pro-tips/short-cuts", they save you time.

This class can be considerably difficult, but I managed to pull a B despite having little/no chemistry background. I highly recommend taking her if you can, as her classes always fill up fast!

Dr L Knecht is one of my favorite professors. She tries hard to make the classes interesting while also teaching the content - which is really really boring. She's really nice, really easy to talk to. She genuinely wants you do to well so don't be afraid to email her asking for an extension or help.

I find chemistry to be challenging, I think maybe if I would have worked my way into this course I would have done much better. She is a great teacher with many little sayings/phrases she says to help you remember things. I failed every test, did all my homework, and finished the discussion with an A-. If you are premed, dont rush into chemistry.

She is such a nice and funny person! She is so kind, and loves to see her students succeed. I had her for HHMI labs. We did analytical chemistry stuff, which I never knew was a thing before the class! Her class was very fun. The end was stressful. I recommend working on your final poster and website throughout the entire semester to make it easier.

The easiest Chemistry classes I've ever taken. Just go to class, PAY ATTENTION, take notes and do the homework and you'll easily pass all the tests. She holds your hand throughout the course and is thorough in making sure you understand the material which is more than you can say for other chemistry teachers.

I have had Dr. Knecht for 3 classes and she is honestly the best professor Ive had. She is always willing to help her students; I have never had a teacher who has cared more. This was my 2nd class with Dr. K and she is honestly a real gem. From 3 hour office extensions to gimme bonus opportunities for EACH test, her style may come off as typical Orgo weed out, but she pinpoints minute details each student is lacking and encourages. Many many hours of hard work, but she truly prepared us for what is to come!

Dr. K is a good professor for both gen chem and orgo 1. She is truly very kind. Always assume the exam will be harder than anything you know, because it will be, and you'll probably do garbage on it. If you can help it, don't take the 3 sequence b/c colleges want to see 4 semesters and UM's chem department is not the most well thought out entity.

She is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is incredibly caring, always there for all of her students, and to be honest if you have the opportunity to take one of her classes, it would be stupid not to. I learned so much chemistry and honestly she is such a cool person. Good luck!

Shes a really nice professor and an amazing lecturer. Her tests are hard and so is her grading. Overall the class is a good experience and I would recommend her. Just prepare to spend a LOT of time working practice problems.

Attendance is mandatory since she uses Tophat and will realize if you are submitting and not in class. Lectures were very effective for learning material, but you definitely have to study. Her exams are hard, no multiple choice, but fair. Overall a pretty fair and passable class if you put in the work

Dr. Knecht is dedicated to sharing and extending her passion of chemistry to her students. This class covers a lot of material and requires you to truly understand each concept beyond what is covered in lecture. Lecture is an introduction and guide to studying the material and should not be considered your only source of learning orgo.

Very caring professor. But this class is HARD have to be willing to put in work every single day. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Exams are difficult and makes the questions harder than what is provided in the textbook. Exams aren't MC. If you study your butt off and do problems and truly understand what you are learning you can get an A. Curved at the end.

CHM 221 is probably the hardest class I've taken but only bc it requires time. Way to do well in this class is by doing practice outside of class because in the end that's what will give you the A. UM kids FIGHT for a spot in her class. She teaches concepts in a way that youll memorize it and be able to explain it to your 3 yr old cousin. Shes funny and loves to make students work with each other. Shes big on teamwork and loves her job. I had no foundation in CHM and did amazing in her course. Tests are the same for every prof. Take her.

The course in itself is content heavy. However, she does her best to breakdown the concepts as well as she can and there clarifies any confusion along the way.

Her exams are difficult, our class averages were in the 60s every time, however if you do the practice problems at the back of every textbook chapter, do your homework and attend class you should be fine. If you want an A, you will have to work for it!

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Knecht. I was borderline failing her class after the second out of four exams and she took the time to meet with me one-on-one in the evening-- time she could've been spending w/ her kids-- to review and break down topics I really struggled with. I wouldn't be premed still if it weren't for her.

Dr. K is so caring and passionate. It makes her such a great teacher b/c she truly cares that you learn the material. I took CHM online. We had lectures and discussion. I didn't find discussion helpful personally. Your grade is based off 4 exams, 1 final, ALEKS homework, class participation, and weekly quizzes. You have to work hard for your grade!

Dr. K cares so much about her students learning and is one of the greatest professors I've had! Every concept is explained so well. It's evident how much work she puts into the class (OH, practice tests, review seshes). She made many accommodations for our class this semester and curves to a 78. Orgo is hard but Knecht is extremely motivating!

I had Cesar Gonzalez for CHM121 but I just had to say, anytime he could not explain something properly often , I came to her and she explained everything in such a simple way I can not believe he is a chem professor. I like Gonzalez but he just can not explain things the way she can. She makes it so easy its unbelievable. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN

The last chem class I took was 6 years ago in HS and never took AP and got an A+.

The best professor at UM. STEM classes especially upper level ones like Orgo can take a couple weeks to get used to the study rigor. However, Dr. Knecht made me not only want to study Orgo, but ENJOY studying it. She takes so much personal time to extensively help her students, and I have never seen such a dedicated professor! She is the best!!!!

Best teacher in Chem dept. by an IMMENSE margin. Makes sure her students understand the material, but YOU NEED TO PUT IN THE WORK! Makes herself available so use her office hours. Tests are tough but never puts anything she hasn't explained in class. Structure of the summer semester is way better for this class. Faster but easier to prioritize.

Had to work my butt off in her class to get an A-, then had St Hillaire for orgo 2 and it was the easiest thing ever. Shes a hardworking, helpful person, but her exams were too challanging. I remember laughing at the absurd difficulty of some questions. Try to take St Hillaire instead, but if shes your only option youll be fine if you work hard.

Don't let anyone tell you different, Dr. Knecht is a professor like no other. I have stumbled with organic chemistry over and over again until I took her. She makes sure EVERYBODY understands the material and does it in a nice, slow way with loads of examples. Every head must bow, every tongue must confess, she is the greatest of all time.

I love Dr. Knecht, but the class was the most difficult class i've ever taken. Be prepared to spend hours each week reviewing concepts and working on problems outside of the homework. Dr. Knecht's lectures are very clear and helpful, but just being present for lecture is not enough. Make sure you take every opportunity to get help and practice.

Orgo 1 is going to be a hard class regardless of the teacher but Leslie is the best out of the bunch for this course. Her classes always have the highest averages and she explains things so well inside and outside of class. Highly recommend taking her for any level chemistry course.

Dr. Knecht is a wonderful professor but this class is SO hard. She gave as many resources as possible to do well but the average on the exams was still almost always failing. Go to her office hours if you can and attend the 10 workshops so you can get your extra credit. There is a slight curve at the end.

i loved leslie. her class was going fairly well besides the third exam, which was much harder than what we were learning in class. that test dropped my grade. however she is an amazing teacher and i really like her teacher style which is she does a lot of practice in class. however i hated how we did not have a test drop

Truly cares about your success and is one of the best professors ever. Orgo is a notoriously dense class and will take up most of your time, but she makes it fun and transparent, making sure you are prepared for any upper-level class there is to come. Super inspirational, super respected, and part of why I switched my major from Biology to Biochem.

CHM 121 is a very hard course, especially if you have never taken a chem class before. But, Dr. L Knecht makes this class very manageable. She makes her lectures engaging and something you want to go to. Despite it being a hard class since the material is so dense, she makes it the best it can be. If you have a chance to take her...DO IT!

Orgo is a tough course no matter who u take it with. It requires tons of work, but if u put in the work, Leslie will be on ur side. She flips her classroom with tons of helpful videos but, I watched the videos after the class. She has lots of office hours for help + questions. While a big chunk of your grade is test do everything plus extra credit!

Orgo is a very difficult class, but Dr. Knecht made this class enjoyable! Taught in a flipped classroom format which I found very helpful because we spent every class practicing concepts. This class isn't easy. It requires a lot of work, and the tests are made to trick you. Leslie is by far the best professor for this class, though. This was my second time taking it; she was much better at explaining things than the other professor. You must dedicate substantial time to this class if you are not inherently good at math.

Even though Chem 121 is a challenging course at UM, Dr. Knecht is amazing and makes it much more manageable if you are willing to do the work. The grade consists of 5 midterms and a cumulative final. You can drop one of the midterms. Something that worked for me was that I read her slides before the lecture so that then you would not be as lost.

Honestly, I don't really think it matters what professor you have for Orgo 1 as long as you study and do all the practice problems in the textbook. Just watch and take notes on the videos Leslie posts, and then read the textbook and do ALL of the practice problems. The more time you spend practicing the better you'll do on the midterms and finals.

I LOVE DR. KNECHT! Be prepared to LEARN. A lot of her class is outside work but she gives you all the material to be successful, so it's your responsibility if you do that or not. Her lectures are very interactive and fun, keeping you engaged. Orgo 1 is hard in general so you are going to need to study no matter what but Dr. Knecht was perfect.

AMAZING!!!! LIGHT OF MY ACTUAL LIFE. She saves the whole entire Umiami chem department and I owe all of my chem understanding to this angel. She explains things in a way that is very digestible and she really helps her kids understand through in class practice problems. I find her videos really helpful.
