Probably the most mixed opinion your gonna get is with this guy. Some people love him; others hate him. I am toward the latter. He was very intimidating and unapproachable, in my view (the first time a professor has ever been like that for me.)
I thought he was really funny and I enjoyed his lectures, If I could do it all over again I would have attended his class more, His exams were pretty hard
He's a character. Hard class, Hard material. It's your call. I loved him and hated him.
One of the most interesting teachers I have ever had. You'll learn so much from him that it'll make your brain hurt. His tests will likely hurt you too, but its worth it for all the information, stories, and life this man will share with you.
This class was the easiest I've ever had! If you need an easy grade take him, but you gotta put up with the most boring classes you could ever imagine, and I mean THE MOST.
VERY entertaining classes. McTighe is HARD, but very clear on his expectations. Take his class if you want to learn. It's not an easy 'A,' but it is a worthwhile one.

Dr. Mctighe is the cool teacher. He is very motivationg and encouraging. He would explain you if you are ready to learn. I really loved his class and Passed it with 'A'. His exams reflect his lectures. If you wanna learn something then take him.
I would recommend him. He is really good teacher.
He may seem unapproachable, but once you make the leap and go to his office for help (during office hours) and he is incredibly helpful. The material is incredibly interesting. He creates a class that will not only help your academic life but also your personal perspective of the world around you.
Most boring teacher ever. Can't lecture and doesn't care to hear students' views.
Extremely easy class, labors over the material so many times, a kindergartner could understand it. Very opinionated, thinks he's very humorous. Repeats his jokes alot and tries to be very dramatic. Seemed knowledgeable, though. Tends to lose his voice from smoking.
Thinks too much of himself and way too little about his students. He is a terrible speaker and is very opinionated. I wish he would talk about the subject more than give his biased opinions about everything from Arabs to Walmart. Can't but wonder why this man is teaching at all.
VERY hard class. i had to go almost every time, and it could be VERY boring. but i learned a lot!
McTighe is a very knowledgeable man. He knows what he is talking about however, he is a very intimidating person as well. Everyone seemed to be scared of him. At times he could be a real ****, but at others he was very humorous and funny. I needed this class for my degree, if I knew it was going
he is an easy class to get a b in. at the end of the semester, he lets you write a paper to argue what grade you should get (percent), and although he seems full of himself and very high-strung, dr.mc tighe loves humanities. i think he hates students though since he thinks they ask stupid questions.
This professor is still one of the best I've ever had. I still get goose bumps thinking about his lectures. He not only knows his subject extremely well, he gives his students tons and tons of extra (and very important & valuable) information. It may be tough and/or hard to understand his style, but his is truly one of the best! A super genius!
I've learned so much in Dr. McTighe's class. He's funny and interesting. He just has a good way of explaining the material. He is hard but you learn stuff! I think he's a great prof!
He screams, spits, swears, speaks to u as if you were a dog, Sometimes funny. Puts on a hard attitutude, but really not as bad as he seems. Class isn't so bad. Its Either this guy or Burke..not much of a choice.
very good teacher, loved his style and learned a lot, you just have to attend class, take good notes and put some real work into it. not a teacher for the "slacker" student.
DONT BE SCARED OF HIM! He's one of the nicest guys ever!! very good professor, knows his material well, and is easy to listen to and take notes. Class is slow paced and he goes over the material more than once. You however, do NEED to attend class if you want a good grade. Take his class- you will use the info he gives later in college for sure.
dr mctighe is one of the best teachers ive ever had and i hope he keeps teaching for a long time to come
just read and follow directions, not that hard to do.
what a joke!
I think he's a pretty good teacher. He is funny, and drifts way off track sometimes. He spends a week or more on the syllabus, and then tests you on it. Gotta love it. He is eccentric and strange at times, but he's got his PHD, what do you expect? If you pay attention and follow his instructions you should have no problem with this class.
He gets a definite F from me.
Take my advice, take anybody but this guy. He's big time bad, bad at everything he does.
He knows his stuff. And he explains it very well. He's a very good teacher
Doesn't teach, doesn't respect his subject, and dislikes students. Take anybody but this dude.
waste of time, doesn't teach anythig at all and can not lecture or answer questions.
You know where you stand with this teacher. wonderful teacher. Many students dislike but more like him. I believe he does of lot of what you do in class to pull out the students who are not serious about the class and topic. I also believe he says things to see who will challange him. If you plan on taking him on in a challange have your facts.
i dont know what to think of this guy. hes a real jerk-face sometimes but he is funny. he repeats himself WAY too much, so be prepared to ditch a lot. overall, im not getting much out of this class but he is better that burke and its more fun than calculus.
He is a great teacher as long as you don't piss him off. You can learn alot from him

Beyond a doubt the most illprepared and poorest speaker and most terrible professor I have ever had at three colleges and two universities. He stinks! Do not take him if you wish to learn.
Where to start...he's pretty scary, gets pissed off easily, bouncy in his lectures, tests are brutal but he curves them...won't fail anybody. He's super nice at the end...which is weird..but yea i'd take him again.
He made the class very interesting and helped us learn more by making comparisons to contemporary subjects. However, everything was at a very fast pace.
Dr. McTighe is an unbelievably great teacher. Alot of people seem to give him flack for being too serious, and for his classes being hard, but I see him as dedicated to his field. No, he's not easy, but that's because he actually wants you to learn. He is one of only a few gems to be found at ECC.
This man should be pumping gas, not attempting to be a college professor. In class, he was seldom prepared, was full of himself, wouldn't allow questions. His tests did not cover what he did in class. He did not cover more than half of what the course catalog says we'd cover. So don't take him for a college, but maybe if you need gas.
Without doubt, he is the worst teacher I've had since high school. In fact, he reminds me the the coaches who were assigned classes to teach even though they didn't know anything about the subjects. We students had to put up with teachers ignorant of the subject back then, who would expect that the same in college? What does McTighe coach, anyway?
Well.. i thought i got myself into an army not a class... he spends the first few weeks of class going over the sylabus...rips on people...don't sit in the front row cuz he will literally spit on u when he talks...so hard not to fall asleep.. this teacher is nuts just dont take him!
He is absolutely nuts but you gotta love it! If it weren't for his eccentric teaching, I would have snoozed through the class! But I defintely learned a lot and had tons of fun! He may seem kind of intimidating in lectures but once you actually talk to him outside of class, he is incredibly helpful and very nice. I recommend everyone take his class
Very odd personality, comes off extremely rude, mean. The biggest complaint I have about his classes (I took 2) are his TIME MANAGEMENT problems. Saved many important things for last week of class and blamed the class for being slow learners, but it was his fault each semester. His tests aren't easy, and having 2 around finals week is not fun.
An intersting subject made boring and incomprehensible by Dr. McTighe. He has no respect for other views as seen in his choices of lecture topics and as seen in his daily hostile attitude towards students and their questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN EVER!
McTighe is arrogant, demeaning and is totally full of himself. His teaching is extremely ineffective He spends 9 hours going over the freaking syllabus. He refuses from students, those who dare comment are ripped to shreds. I would not recommend him to anyone.
BAD BAD BAD. Spent 4 WEEKS on the syllabus. Had to take last 2 of 3 exams in the last 3 days of class, and that is BEYOND UNACCEPTABLE. Holds us to standards that he does not hold himself to. VERY UNORGANIZED lectures for note taking. Had to redo my notes after every single class. I would recommend him to people I hate.
I must say i have never met a more disorcanized man in my life, this teacher should really take into consideration soe time management classes. There are three tests in the course and they are all within the last 2 weeks of school. We had one class period to learn about three religions. And the tets are not easy, but at least he curves.
Very informative, yet difficult. If you apply yourself enough you can do average I got a B and it was mostly effort. He curves the test which helps immensly. Overall a good teacher
Easy A
Unique
Wow, what a strange fellow.
For the love of god... Don't take this man, ever! Spent FOUR WEEKS on syllabus. Talks down to students. Flaunts his "PhD from Northwestern". Makes you buy a textbook, and then tells you everything in it is wrong. Plus he smells funny, so don't sit in the front row.
I would not recommend McTighe. He spends WAY too much time on the syllabus and not enough time on the ACTUAL material. The tests aren't too bad if you study, but they are crammed into the last 3 weeks of school. He isnt very approachable and if you ask him a question he looks at you like your an idiot. Also, he talks the whole time, w/o electronics
It is true, McTighe is intimidating, disorganized, and picky. We spent 1 month on the syllabus. We had quizzes about the syllabus, like "Where is McTighe's office located? Give building abb. and number." Humanities is the systematic study of the meanings of artifacts. Questions about McTighe do not fall under the definition of humanities.
It's not just the syllabus he spends a lot of time on, its EVERYTHING talks about. He may repeat everything twice..or three times...but when it comes to the test..You know it all because he went over it 100 times. Overall, he is really smart and interesting..but he spits when he talks so dont sit in front.
Despite many of the ratings, i throughly enjoyed mctighe's class. and he is not at all intimidating. he spent 3 weeks reviewing the syllabus, but im not complaining. and the furthest we got in the book was chapter 2. just read the material, study the artifacts, and do well on your humanities project. :)
He was just absurd with the stuff he said. Its really easy, but its hard to go to class because he takes 3 weeks to go over the syllabus and then crams 15 weeks worth of material down your throat in the last 3 weeks.
I dropped this class after the first night. I'm sorry, what a waste of time going over the syllabus for 3.5 hours and only getting half way through. His arrogance was just oozing from his brain. No one could be as smart as this guy. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH THIS INSTRUCTOR. Unless you like being treated like a 2 year old.
Hard at first, but comes around, decent...
He is so frustrating and is hypocrytical. He leaves three tests and a project for the last 6 weeks of classes and doesn't even start talking about other religions for a comparative religions class until a week before the test. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
i loved him. Not everyone does, apparently, but i think he's too smart for some people. he's a grouchy old man with a huge brain and i love it. all you have to do is pay attention in his class.. he expects his students have a little of their own intelligence he wont feed you anything.
He is a horrible instructor. He wastes 4 weeks on the syllabus, 4 weeks! He hates it when you ask questions and then yells at people for not participating. You never use the book and you have to cram everything in the last 2 weeks. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Idk if 113 is correct code but i took Critical Reasoning. The class seemed difficult at first, like really hard but turned out to not be too bad. He lectures every class and can get really boring. If u have to take this humanity, hes not too bad. His pop quizzes are hard but after that its not bad. Btw, hes aethist and he pissed me off a lot!
I think he's really good. He does challenge you think in a different way which is hard, but really helps out. Fair grader and does explain confusing things. He knows his stuff and wants you to really get the info.
Dr. McTighe was one of the most compelling and effective professors I've ever had a class with. His use of a sort of ontological shock and his storytelling are remarkable. His courses will challenge your worldview and, as long as you avoid getting defensive, you will be a more critical thinker at the end of them.
he repeats so many times same thing, that makes you repeat it even in your dreams...if you dream abt this sub.He is easy tecaher who has knowledge but dont know how to impart to his students.
McTighe is the worst teacher I have ever had! He seems like a great person, but he should rethink his career. It was a once a week class meaning we had limited time. However we spent the first three weeks going over what the class was going to be about. He separated the different religions in three groups and the last three we only spent half the cl
You'll hate him. You'll want to vomit before test. But I love humanities now. Yes he spends 3 plus weeks on the syllabus. But he explains every this so well if you for get your not listening. Write everything down. and be ready for you hand and head to hurt. but it was completely worth it. He does care about his students.
Evidence that being able to earn a degree does not make one particularly intelligent. McTighe knows what he's talking about. The problem is that he's the only one really following it. Egotistical, arrogant, insulting, and utterly incomprehensible. Save your money for a better class.
McTighe is definitely one of the interesting professors in the school. I was careful not to show my conservative side because I do not know if he grades based on opinion, but if you're really interested in learning something, take his class. It was difficult, I regretted taking it while I was in it,but I'm glad I did because I did learn A LOT.
If you can, don't take him. He is not a great teacher at all. His tests are stupid and you can't understand what he is talking about.
I dont know where all these negative reviews are coming from. I took his religion class at a time where I just needed another blow off elective and it ended up being the best most inspiring course I've ever taken. His teaching style is definatly old school but it was also refreshing because he actually CARES about his students learning something
I would recommend him. He is really good teacher.
He is interesting. that being said, he does a terrible job with time management and teaching what he says he is going to in the syllabus. I would not take this class ever again even though i got an A. Spend your money elsewhere
DO NOT LET THE LOW RATINGS & NEGATIVE COMMENTS DETER YOU FROM TAKING A CLASS WITH DR. MCTIGHE! I really enjoyed Dr. McTighe's classes. I took both of McTighe's Western Humanities classes and received an A in both. If you truly care about your education and would like to actually come away from a class learning something, take Dr. Mctighe's class.
Took first 2 weeks going over syllabus!!! Has some interesting philosophical views but managed to turn a logic class into philosophy 101. End result was a class completely worthless to my comp sci degree.
The only reason I took this class was because I needed it. I ended up doing well in it, but the class itself was really boring. I think hes a nice guy, its just that hes a little bad on time management. You can definelty tell he truely knows what hes talking about though. Very educated man.
Be prepared to take notes and sit through a lecture for every class. McTighe is good speaker and many aspects of the class are interesting. Learning his charts are a must in order to do well in the class.
McTighe has poor time management, and we spent the first 2 weeks of the semester going over the syllabus, overall a very monotonous tone, and repeats himself too often.
McTighe knows his stuff and is passionate about it. He makes sure you learn the material. Unfortunately, he goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the class. He talks about his political views, tries to prove that he is the top dog, and rants about things he's done. If he could manage his thoughts, he would be one of the best profs ever.
McTighe talks ALOT, be ready to write down as much of what he's sayng as possible. Doesn't believe in using technology when teaching. Gets off topic alot but he needs to to keep the class awake while lecturing. Speed of material covered is based off of pop quiz scores of class. Extra credit given to those who share notes to abesnt students
I'm almost finished with my degree and out of all my teachers he was my least favorite. He spent the entire semester going over two worksheets and then crammed three tests(with pretentious confusing essays), and a huge project into the last three weeks of class. I cannot even explain how much work he assigned at the last minute.
Save this teacher for your second or third semester of college. No doubt he has his own opinions, but if you get defensive and indignant with him you're not ready for his style of teaching. He can be redundant, but he gets the points across. Just put in the work, and the class will be easier than it appears. Don't get stressed!
You wont be bored. all he does it talk. he's all about critical thinking and putting two and two together. if you can do that, show it no the exams, you'll pass no problem. as long as you can back up arguments with insight, you'll earn an A. he's tough though so don't take him if you're looking for a blow off class
he was ok. attendance was relaxed but he would throw in random quizzes. he likes to lecture so we ended up cramming the 3 exams in the last 3 weeks of class, which wasn't fun. not the best but not the worst either.
I have taken HUM 101 and 103 with McTighe. He expects a lot from his students but he basically tells you what you need to do in order to get an A. If you go to class every day and take good notes, you will get an A no doubt!
I took a few courses with McTighe before transferring to the University of Illinois at U-C. His courses were the ONLY courses at ECC that actually prepared me for the rigorous workload at a research one university.
Lots of people seem to dislike McTighe. He can be a little jerkish, but he relly is a good teacher. People complained that he would teach us material and then test us on it in the same class period, but really, how could it be any easier? He just told us exactly what is on the test. The quizzes are easy too. Show up for class and get an A. Simple.
The class was pretty easy, but the teacher is horrible. We talked about the syllabus for 3 weeks and the definition of humanities for the next two. Everything gets crammed into the last month or two of the class, which is bad time management on his part. The class is a drag to sit through and I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone.
So arrogant. Bad bad teacher
Pretty easy class, but I can't say that I learned much. We never got to the actual definition of religion, and we barely learned about religions. He's a pretty arrogant guy.
He's not even that bad. He's repetitive, and you probably wont accomplish too much, but if you show up you'll get an A. If you can, download and print out the first chapter of the book. It's all you will need for this class.
His time management is awful. All three of the tests were pushed to the last three weeks of class. His lectures are irrelevant to the course and so boring. But just show up and you'll be fine.
He's not as bad as students make it seem. Just show up to class, take notes and his tests will be extremely easy. He does repeat a lot of material , but that's what his tests mostly consist of. One thing is that he does push back tests and cram things at the end, but it's an easy class & he's funny!
You don't go much content and consistently repeats information. He wants you to get an A. Also I found the textbook online on Google Books. Saved me over $100 for only having to read 30 pages all semester.
I took 103 with him and it was so boring, then I took 205 and you can tell he's actually interested in mythology. Just show up, write down what he says, rewrite and organize it later (he's all over the place), and read the book. Not hard to get an A. His time management could be better though. All 3 exams are in the last month of class.
This guy rambles on about things that have nothing to do with Critical Reasoning. He's a lunatic and even said one day that he's crazy and he knows it. Rambles on about how he has a PhD and doesn't need to be teaching at a Community College; very big ego on this guy; avoid at all costs.
Rambles a lot. Lectures about the same thing multiple times. Crams three tests in three weeks because he forgets where he left off. First test is hard, last two are easy. Pop quizzes suck. He's offending occasionally, too. And he doesn't work with you at all for personal emergencies. Not a fan.
I gave McTighe low scores, but I LOVE this professor. He may seem a bit abrasive at first, but he does genuinely want each student to succeed. Although you will need to take a lot of notes to do well on tests, don't listen to the people saying that his lectures are repetitive. He interweaves them to form bigger pictures, if youre paying attention.
As an adult conservative student I was very offended by his political opinions. They were unrelated to the subject. You can tell his agenda was to persuade the unexposed young minds. He also spits when he lectures so don't sit in front row. Taught me nothing, but how to get through a semester without dropping! Horrible
His lectures are long and material may be relavent or not. He talks about so much with little clarity sometimes and expects you to pick up on what he's saying. There's currently three weeks left and he still hasn't given us information on this project that's 15% of our grade. Unfortunately, there's not many HUM teachers to choose from.
repeats himself in lecture many times just somtimes adding more details. notetaking is necessary. didn't start actual class content until after spring break. crams all 3 tests into the 3 weeks of school. can be offensive in what he says. need to do a museum visit but doesn't give the form until last weeks of school
This teacher wasn't enjoyable at all. His teaching is awful, you talk about the syllabus for 6 classes. He waits until the last month to give the 3 test you're supposed to have over 3 months. Very rude and condescending towards students. Has virtually no clue how technology works. Test are difficult and don't help you learn. So much more i cant fit
He is one of the worst teachers I ever had. He is monotone and repeats a lot in his dry and boring lectures. He gives all the tests and your projects in the last week's of the class. However, if you can stand him for 16 weeks, he is an easy grader.
McTighe was a pretty interesting teacher. He's very knowledgable in history and he tells you exactly what you need to learn for his tests. He also has a dry sense of humor and can be funny. However, I don't like how he crams his tests in the last three weeks of school, especially since I only had two days to prepare for the final exam
easy class, bad layout of the class. the total of 3 exams are condensed into the last month of class. he hands out a project after the first test. 3 quizzes total best 2 are taken. participation is a must. read the book and make flash cards. he tells you everything you need to know and exams are very easy. he is a very boring person though.
I had the misfortune of taking 2 classes of his in one semester. The first few weeks of class consisted of studying the syllabus and taking a test on it. Yes, you read that correctly. WEEKS on just the SYLLABUS! During the last three weeks of class, he would attempt to teach us several chapters of information on Monday and then test us on Wednesday
I've never had more of a struggle trying to stay awake in class. He speaks so slow, repeating the same thing over again in a very monotone voice. Throws random pop quizes at you, and reads them out loud so you have to think fast, but he'll repeat if you ask. Had no idea what was going on half the time, but hey I got an A. Overall a good guy.
You spend weeks going over the syllabus and you cram three exams and a project in the last month of class. Your lecture notes and textbook are key to passing the exams. His lectures are a bit difficult to follow though so pay close attention.
What a strange man. Very knowledgeable but it seems like he doesn't ever come into class with a plan. We discussed the syllabus for three weeks. He's very thorough, I'll give him that, but he repeats himself a lot. I'm both terrified of and fascinated by him. Class is easy, gets boring, but just write down what he rambles about and you'll be fine.
He was the worst professor I have had in my college career. His lectures are long and he repeats himself many times. It will take six classes just to get through the syllabus! Absolutely no technology and he crams all 3 tests and 1 project into the last three weeks of class. Rude to students and doesn't understand this is not the only class we have
Firstly - read below. It's true - 3 weeks on the syllabus. At least. I had to try my hardest to stay awake in class. He repeats himself CONSTANTLY. RUDE! Barked at me for RAISING my hand to have him repeat something for my notes. AWFUL!! Asked us for our annual salary & religion among other questions on an index card. DROPPED. I'd avoid this class.
I had him for 2 classes in a semester (HUM 115 + 205) He injects his own opinion into the lecture content and takes entire class periods to describe one idea. We fell so far behind in 205 that we dropped a test worth 15% from our grade. Had 1 assignment from textbook between the 2 classes. Overall unpleasant personality but an easy grader.
He does not budget his time we'll and falls weeks behind schedule. We got so far behi Dr that we only have one class between out 2nd test and the final and he expectsaid us to learn all of the material for the final on our own.
He is the worst teacher I have ever taken. We took about 4 weeks on just the syllabus. He repeats himself constantly and always runs out of time forcing us to stay 4 min after class has ended. If you get up and leave he gets mad and calls you out. He crams 3 tests the last week of the semester since he was to busy getting distracted.
I had Intro to Western Humanities with Mctighe. He's certainly a unique and interesting professor, friendly but gruff. His lectures digress and he he falls well behind where the class should be during the semester. He did grade our class on a heavy curve however. While I got an A in class, I left feeling like I didn't gain much knowledge.
Mctighe is a tough one. If you're not a fan of traditional classroom vibe , do not take him. He may get off topic but material will be taught. Easy A if you attend class, take notes and study the artifacts. He tends to curve tests too.
if you want to feel dumb and be talked down to, then take his class. Asking questions or answering questions will usually result in some sort of discouraging response. wants things in class his way. will call students out for "garbage" answers or responses to questions. won't accept a test until the answers are how he wants them
AHLRIGHT.
I took Dr. McTighe's HUM205: Intro to Mythology course last semester. McTighe is old school. Prefers a paper written than typed. I did not buy the textbook. Attendance&Participation are mandatory. Very fun class. Did not get to cover any mythological creatures, unfortunately. Just dont be intimidated, read the material&take notes&you will be fine.
I took his Comparative Religions class a semester or two ago. I enjoyed the class and him as a professor. His humor might be dry at times, but I certify I learned much from the experience.
Dr. McTighe is a very traditional professor. He does not use any technology like D2L and PowerPoint. For his lectures, he primarily talks and writes stuff on the board. I learned a lot about religious studies from him. However, Dr. McTighe was very disrespectful to his students by not being flexible, and he would use inappropriate words.
Hes a philosophy and religion teacher so you might feel like he thinks hes smarter than you. Class is a pretty easy A, he talks a lot though, but says some funny stuff.
McTighe is very confusing. We spent the first month just going over the syllabus, with some material thrown around during his lectures. He's very old school and prefers paper and pencil over everything. I've taken mythology courses before and have always done well in them, but I had to drop this class because he was too all over the place for me.
This is the worst class Ive ever taken. Rude, degrading, and very disrespectful. ZERO organization. I walked away from this class with absolutely NOTHING. Went over the syllabus for 4 weeks at least. Had 1 exam mid course. Then 3 the last 2 weeks of class. Oh, u dont know ur grade the whole time either and if u ask him, he gets defensive.
Teacher is very degrading. Only 3 test, & pop quizzes the first weeks. Did not enjoy or learn anything. Never taking his classes again. The topic was interesting, but he spoke to his students very aggressively & again, VERY degrading. Very specific on how you wrote or what you wrote with(pen or pencil). Notes, tests, finals, quizzes ALL handwritten.
Out of all the teachers that I've had, McTighe is the most rudest and boring teacher that I have ever had. He lectures for the entire 75 minutes. No powerpoint. No visuals. His lectures are extremely boring, and lack organization. After every fact he states, he says the word "Alright". I've counted up to 248 in one class period (75 minutes).
He has an old-style method of teaching that I have actually found helpful when it comes to focusing in class. A lot of my classmates had a difficult time in his class, but I believe that is from not keeping an open mind to the material being learned. I didn't buy the textbook at all and still passed with "A". Just show up and take good notes.
It was a rough start with Prof Mctighe, not going to lie. I failed 2 of the pop quizzes because I didn't know what I should have narrowed my focus to. He is very lecture heavy and monotone. I took his class in person and then we were all switched to online. He is a lot nicer than he seems and gave some good feedback. Snarky, but fair.
He is very nice but very slow. He will take up to 10 minutes repeating the same thing which is sometimes good if you need reminding. Very easy tests and little to no homework but he repeats himself a lot and its hard to understand what he is getting at sometimes.
I was very disappointed with competitive religions. I was hoping to learn about various religions and we didnt learn about a single religion.
I was really excited for this class because I love mythology, but this professor was the worst one Ive ever had. His pop quizzes are 5 questions, you have no choice but to get all of them right if you want a good grade, get 2 wrong and its already a bad grade. His lectures made no sense, no matter how many times i rewatched. Dont take his class.
Overall nice guy. Met once a week. Notes in lectures were ineligible. Quizzes are impossible to complete without proper notes. Even then, cannot google anything on the quiz because he has his own definitions for everything. Barely any hw but jams a lot of material in the last month. I liked him, but would never take him again.
He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are very hard to follow. The entire time he just keeps going on and he sounds like he is talking nonsense at a certain point. his pop quizzes make no sense and don’t seem to correlate to his lectures. The exams are the same, except longer. The only learning resource is the lectures, so it’s hard to get
I took the course because I was excited to learn about religions but we barely did that. Everything he talked about was specific to professionals in the field. It made it extremely hard to understand. He also claimed that no one could get above a 95%.
He is old school, so he won't show any slide shows or videos. A great majority of the lectures rarely write something on the board, so it's up to you to write whatever you can while he speaks. He's really monotonous, so bring a cup of joe. However, he will be happy to help answer any questions.
Lectures are him talking & writing on the screen with no organization. Pay attention to his lectures & read the book because it will help on quizzes. He is older so he might lose his train of thought, but bear with him. Mythology was an interesting class & he wants you to really understand all that a myth is. Good at explaining answers to questions
At first this Leslie Mctighe can come off a little cold some may find him a bit boring at first. Leslie lectures quite a lot, I found that these lectures are extremely interesting but that may be just me. At some times it may seem like he dose not care about the students but I think he actually really cares a lot about students.
Not at all as advertised. Expected to learn about actual mythology, but we ended up going over the definition of the analysis of texts. The only myth we read was Oedipus, and you had to research another myth on your own for 10% of your final grade. Didn't learn anything about mythology, only about the terms used in professional myth analysis.
Not what was given in the course description, expected to learn about mythology but ended up learning about his beliefs and why they are right
BEWARE.I only lasted in his class 2 days to know all I needed to know. He's older and it seems like when he talks it never really reaches a conclusion? or even a main idea? I've gone through his syllabus several times, and nothing makes sense. No type of organization. Don't take his class unless you ABSOLUTELY need it.
Recommend the hybrid course - quizzes are online. There is a essay exam in class and on site religion observation required. The entire course consisted of verbal lectures - there's no reading, images or videos. A bit confusing since Dr. McTighe talks the entire time and we must take verbatim notes. The quizzes are all based on what he talks about.
I expected to learn about mythology but ended up learning nothing related to mythology and mostly just learned about his own definitions of words. We barely knew and did anything until the last second of the semester. Cramps everything in the last minute. Quizzes and tests made no sense. Very hard to pay attention to the lectures.
Lectures are impossible to pay attention to. He doesn't write on the board, and his assignments are disorganized. Tests make no sense. Should just quit teaching in general. Has no sense of humor. Makes no attempt at making the class entertaining or engaging.
doesn't know how to do his job.
Very Boring talks very slow and quiet. Makes no attempt to make the class engaging/entertaining. Barely writes anything down on the board which makes lectures hard to follow, and you pretty much have to guess what to write for notes. Questions on tests and quizzes don't make a lot of sense either. However the class is pretty easy and not much hw.
Not enthusiastic about this course. Although this class is online and hybrid, it's not a class I thought I'd enjoy. Online lectures are boring and hard to follow, but if you follow along with each lecture you should be fine as far as grades.
I do not recommend taking this professor. His assignments are very confusing, he talks very quietly and does not try to make the class engaging. He talks through the entire lecture.
The lectures are dry and disorganized, but using Unstuckstudy and reading the textbook can help offset the difficulty. Grading is tough, but the subject matter is interesting if you engage with it.
Says um every other word. When he leaves the whole class talks about how bad he is. Doesn't call students by their proper name. Crams everything in at the last second of the semester. Useless during his office hours. Made a racist comment. Talks about stuff irrelevant to the class. Has a bad attitude. I strongly reccomend avoid him.
If you have this teacher, CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE. Sure, it's an easy class, but if you don't want to waste an hour and fifteen minutes of your day? Please don't take his class. He drones on and on and never once stops to let you know if what he's about to say is important or if there's something specific to write down.
A true Academic student of Religion who tells you the straight dope and is completely objective. He's awesome.
Great idea for a class, however rants off on random tangents unrelated to class material. The syllabus and class schedule make no sense. You will be doing a semesters worth of work within the last 3 weeks of class, completely separate from the first 12 weeks. Bad with names and time management, be sure to bring something to stay awake for notes.
Hour of Zoom-recorded lectures that could be shaved down to about thirty minutes if he didn't say "uh", "uhm," and "alright" every other word. He insults you for taking a previous English course, stating that it does not matter what we learned there because we have to write exactly how he wants us to or he will fail us. Biggest waste of my time.
Professor McTighe would always show up late to class, spend almost 20 minutes writing down school announcements on the board that are already on the school website. Takes a ridiculous amount of time to get through a week or two of content, and would often rush at the end of lectures to get his point across. Super condescending + unhelpful.
he's too old and needs to retire avoid at all costs
The ONLY things we did: -Humanities experience research project -Participation proposal -Pop quiz 1 -Exam 1 -Exam 2 Taught syllabus right until week after spring break. Exam 1 on 4/24/25 and Exam 2 on final day of class. Goes over artifacts before test so pay attention to those bc most likely those will be the same on the test. - take voice notes
Participation matters! Pay attention because everything he says in class he'll test you on. Don't spend too much time studying the artifacts he'll tell you a couple that will be on right before the test just pay attention there. Show up and make yourself known when do. It isn't hard work, just an old nice man who is straight up and should retire.
He's an interesting character. The good: the topics his lectures are interesting and he is extremely knowledgeable and a real academic. The cons: he moves extremely slowly, he repeats himself constantly, and he's hard of hearing. Take comprehensive notes, write everything down. Actually listen, he says important and interesting things.
Lots lectures and is very slow talker. He's not a bad guy, he's just old and takes a while to speak and think. I'd still avoid his classes, he gets boring very fast.
Worst teacher that i have ever taken. He didn't even teach anything until the last day then had an exam like what the heck. This was such a waste of my money and time. He left everything for last minute. Never been more scared for a grade.
Professor McTighe is a very educated individual, but he talks very slowly, and his class is very boring 90% of the time. He doesn't use slideshows to present his lectures, but rather only speaks and occasionally writes down key words to have in your notes. All quizzes and half of the exams were online, but aren't hard if you took good notes.
