I highly reccommend you take this course when you know you have lighter courses to go with it. It is a lot to work through
Great prof and person. Willing to give lots of extra help as long as you're doing your job as a student (show up to class!). THE prof to get if you tend to stress out over math. She does what she can to help you with your negative feelings about math.
Clear and willing to give extra help if you ask. I ended up actually enjoying the course and I HATED previous math classes. Seems like a rather useful sort of math.
Good math teacher and funny in an understated sort of way (you won't roll out of your seat laughing I mean). Plus she's easy on the eyes and super nice. Go to class, do some homework and you'll be fine.
Great lecturer. Very concerned with everyone and their different types of learning. Gives good tips in general to help with your learning and test taking. Does not tolerate when a student does not put forth the effort. Very helpful though and very very clear when it comes to teaching.
She teaches reasonably well in class, but is totally unwilling to be of help outside class. Once she has decided that you are a bad student (miss one class), she will always see you this way and will not help you. Not only that, ask for help and she will tell you that it's all your own fault.
I took this as a web class. She is unreasonable inn her expectations, and is not willing to explain why she gave you a certain grade. I would not recommend this teacher becauseShe is not helpful at all.
This is by far one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken. i took the web class and believe me it is not worth it. I just barely passed with a C and i had to WORK for it. Her notes are incconclusive and vague at best. More than a few times, I had to look up terms that she did not explain in her online notes. Though, to her credit, she was very helpful when i needed help... but that still doesn't mean she is a good web professor. take the class regularly and do your work. DO NOT TAKE STATS ONLINE!!!
I loved Leslie. If you do your work and keep up with the class you will be fine. This is not a teacher if you want an easy A. She is very inspring and when you have her as an instructor you will want to learn!
If you take this instructor you will become familiar with "motivational mondays." DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR! She takes up much classtime with these motivational mondays because she believes that all students are lazy and get extremely discouraged and need help with their attitudes. That is fine, but this is statistics. Lets stick to that.
I liked the prof. but this class is 10x harder online than in a regular class setting. I thought I could take the web option because I am an A/B student. Big Mistake! Please take this course in a regular class setting.
great teacher. took an online class. online quizzes were not timed. the tests are not taken online. great teacher. but not an easy A
I would suggest to take this course traditionally instead of trying to attempt it on-line.
I took the class as a hybrid (part online, part traditional), and she is a fantastic prof! She is very efficient and knows what she's talking about.
Leslis knows what she's doing! As long as you keep up with the homework you are garenteed a good grade....she is clear and productive. The example of what every prof should be!
run away from this web course, it is one of the worse i have ever taken, the class average was so low i could not believe it. you might do well on the labs and quizes, but the test are impossible. no real instruction, just because it is a web course does not mean students should be totally on their own.
As far as math teachers go, she is one of the best! Very helpful. Attendence isn't required unless you want a good grade. Test are straight forward. If you do the homework and reviews you'll be looking at a good grade.
Dr. Leslie helped me through a rough time with STATS. Her brain exercises helped me with my head injury. She is SOOOOO SMART. I was in awe. I liked it when she would kick everyone out of the lab that wasn't in her class. If she didn't do that, my lab partner and I would never have finished our final. She is VERY VERY FAIR. She's FABULICIOUS!
I took this online. I enjoy online classes and did well. She has good notes and great reviews. She suggests homework, but not too much. I found her to be very helpful. I was intimidated to take this class, but was happily suprised when I learned a lot and even enjoyed it! If you want to take it online, take it with her!
she was a great teacher!very helpful and energetic.
I took the WEB based course. The class takes a lot of time, but that?s the nature of the beast. Her notes are pretty good; she does leave a few key points out in the later sections and a few times the same sections are repeated back to back. She replies to E-mail super fast, and invites web students to sit in on classroom lectures. The textbook
Don't take her online-only course. I snuck away with a B, but only because I studied my ass of and received tutoring. From the few times I did meet her, she seems like a great teacher and her normal classes must be great, it just didn't transfer well to the online setting.
The class is cmprehensible, but I lost many points from Discussion points. Her exams are written and so it's easy to miss points. I took this course online. It might work out better if you take it live.
...one of the worst professors ever; totally self-absorbed
She is rough! You have to study hard. She is extremely helpful if you ask. If taking her online read her notes over and over. Ask questions and do all the homework. She offers no extra credit. The Class average for my class was a 69! Good luck with her!
Statistics is a hard class. The online class was difficult, but she offers students to attend one day of in class if you choose to go. Take advantage of e-mailing her and going to her office hours. No curve, material is hard to understand, but Leslie is very helpful. Practice tests before every test. She wants you to do well, seek for help!!
I took this class online. This teacher is extremely nit-picky, if you don't answer her Qs in a certain way then you'd lose pts. She can always find ways to deduct pts from those pointless discussion posts no matter what. Tests are hard, hated the way she word her questions. She's quick to resp to email and provides good class notes.
Professor Smith was really easy to work with. I took her online class and she answers emails immediately. I did feel there was some lacking information in her notes (which is all you are supposed to be using to learn) but she always explains if you are confused. It can be difficult but if you put in the time it's not a bad web class.
I wouldn't recommend taking this class online. I am truly a distance learning student (taking the class while deployed). YES she answers e-mails quickly, but test questions are vague and as the course progresses the notes leave out critical info, that she probably assumes you would get if you made it to her Monday sessions!
I took this class online. Not only did the use of "MyMathLab" make it super easy to follow, L.Smith provided excellent notes and encouragement to email her if you had any questions. She also provided the option to attend her live class if you needed more help.
I took the class online. The video lectures were hard to follow. Also, I'm not a math person; however, I've taken all my math classes online and have done better than this course. When I went to her office hours for help she told me that I had it all correct and she didn't know what to tell me. So, I feel I'm struggling without help.
Exams were only open to take on the weekends, which conflicted with my work schedule, and avoidance of that was the only reason I took an online math class to begin with. Exams contained some oddly worded questions that she'd mark entirely wrong for nit-picky reasons, and no explanation for why things were marked wrong was ever provided.
Great Class!
I took a math class online last semester and did not have as much trouble as I did this semester. The test reviews were never like the actual tests. I also hated how the exams were available Wednesday to Monday when we still had assignments and quizzes due that Sunday in between. Plus the testing center wasn't open on weekends.
This thot gives no extra credit, you don't need the book. She is not lenient and she doesn't curve grades. If you see her name on your schedule switch professors !!!! she needs to literally changes her teaching style because it sucks !!!!
worst professor I ever had. she doesn't explain stuff well.
CSCC is horrible for statistics. All the teacher seem to suck at teaching it. Look at the reviews for just Stat. You will be better taking it at OSU or anthr school where they have real stat teachers not hybrid from Math 1148. She is FAR being good. Dont let her ruin you GPA or future jobs. Some employers look at GPA.
Had her for algebra. She was super nitpicky. Wouldn't let you turn anything in late no matter what. Was very strict. You felt stupid if you asked a question. Wasn't very clear either
She is hard but is there whenever you have questions
Not sure I agree with other reviewers. Smith responds back to emails usually the same day; she wants to help. The textbook is online as part of the course. Its very easy to follow. There are a lot of assignments but its manageable; weekly quizzes and tests were inconveniently due the same week sometimes though. I thought this class was super easy
Professor Smith gives helpful feedback on weekly labs and quizzes, and answers e-mails quickly. I really appreciated all the materials she provided in the web course... and the textbook was included, so no cost for that!
Great professor, always emails back right away. Explains things thoroughly and in an easily understandable way. You can tell she really cares about her students. Although very frequent, the weekly quizzes force you to stay on top of the material. She is extremely willing to help students. I would definitely recommend this professor and class.
Leslie is a really good professor. The course material itself is pretty easy, but she really goes that extra mile. I definitely appreciated all the feedback she gives you and there are a ton of grades, so it's easy to do well.
Very fair and sets the class in a way that gives you everything you need to succeed, so long as you apply yourself. She is friendly and has a great sense of humor with her students. The course was challenging, but she is there for you if you need help (office hours, answered questions very well, made sure you understood before moving on, etc.)
Dr. Smith will make sure you succeed in the class. She gives homework that is very applicable to exams . Attendance is key to understand the material. She is very helpful and interactive. One of the best professors I've ever had.
She's very helpful and always willing to spend extra time with you. I suggest taking in class though if you struggle with math like I do
Bad experience with the online stat class. Normally I do very well in online classes and I took Stats in high school but this teacher is legitimately ridiculous with her nit pickiness. She wants to hear the phrases and metaphors she used thrown back at her or won't give you points for a normally acceptable statistical answer. Class is averaging Cs.
AMAZING professor, she will make you understand math like never before. If you don't skip and do the practice HW you will pass 100%. I thought I would never be able to pass Calculus but with this professor you will do great!! Her lectures are interesting and straight to the point of what will be on the test/quiz. Highly recommend!!
Professor Leslie has been by far the most amazing professor I've had at columbus state. She is very caring and very smart. Show up to class and put in the effort and you'll get an A. When ever you feel like you're lost just ask and she will get you back on track. Amazing teacher with a kind heart, I would definitely take her again if i could.
Come to class and participate. Don't skip if you wanna stay on top of things. STAT 1450 can get a little hectic at times but if you do your homework you'll be fine.
Leslie was a great instructor. She really cares about her students, something that was new to me as a CSCC student. It is a difficult class and covers a lot of material so get help from her and use the tutoring lab. Do the homework, it will help a lot and repeat the problems a lot for test and quiz prep. She is tough at grading but is also fair.
As long as you go to class, keep up on the homework, and study, it won't be too hard at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE. I cannot stress that enough. I took it online and then had to take a W because the course was so hard. When I took it the following semester in person, it was so much better! Leslie really cares about her students' success.
One of the best math professors I've ever had. If you have a question she will try her hardest to make sure that you understand completely how to figure it out. She is amazing at responding to emails. If you go to class and pay attention, take good notes, and practice, the class wont be that hard, especially with a professor like Leslie that cares.
Professor Smith gives you everything you need to succeed, the guided notes packets are thorough and very helpful. You can do well IF you attend class, keep up with the homework assignments/quizzes, and ask questions/attend office hours. She is very willing to help however she will not just hand out A's. Tests can be a little tricky. Work hard!
I enjoyed Professor Smith's class and teaching style. Yes, she is a strict grader, expects you to participate in class, and does not have time for excuses; this is college, put your "grown up" pants on. I found her methods, lectures, handouts and other forms of teaching to be incredibly helpful in a subject I had been terrified to tackle before.
Professor Smith was honestly the best math professor Ive had in my life! to my fellow my lazy easy A liking students Im taking this class and I have an A! Shes amazing teaches thoroughly you just have to come to class do the labs and take your quizzes. 10/10 would recommend!!
Professor Smith was AWESOME!! I 100% encourage everyone to take her! She teaches so you understand and is always willing to help. She's very encouraging and is such a positive person. As long as you attend class, you should get a good grasp of all the concepts. It was a lot of information, but her teaching style is great!!!
I was nervous about taking an online math class, but Prof. Smith was a great choice! She emails back quickly and is always willing to help. Other than that, if you put in the work and ask for help when you need it you should be fine. She is helpful with labs and reviewing for tests.
Please don't take this professor if you want to pass this class with good grade, indeed she is knowledgeable about the subject but at the same time she made it complicated for the student. Specially the lab section; it has three parts to submit ,and if you miss any one of them you will receive a zero credit, she will not give you any points.
Professor would assign every problem in chapters for an entry level stats class. The Class is very easy but 250 problems a week takes 4-8 hours to complete.
The only assignments you receive a grade on are the labs, quizzes, & tests. The tests count for 75% of your grade. The class is difficult and if you want to pass the class, you have to do really well on the tests. After seeking help from the professor, I was still lost. It was just a bunch of oh thats easy and then her doing the problem for you.
Great instructor. This class is pretty easy going as long as you show up and pay attention. Homework isn't for a grade but it is there to help study and s really helpful. Tests are heavily weighted but as long as you show up and study a little they aren't an issue.
Awesome instructor, she was always available to answer any questions you may have and she made everything easy to understand. As long as you have a basic understanding of math and you come to class you will do great in this class. 10/10 would take again.
This was not an easy class for me, and I would strongly suggest taking it in person if you are not a math pro, but Leslie was one of BEST online teachers I have ever had. Her response time is phenomenal and patience to match. She was always available to help. If you do all your homework and STUDY hard, you can get an A in this class!
Best math professor I ever had!
Leslie is one of the best professors I have had. She truly cares about how her students do, and gives all necessary materials to get a good grade. Her lectures with guided notes made everything easy to understand. Overall, I highly recommend taking statistics with her!
She was one of the best professors I had in CSCC. The course is very organized and easy to keep up with the class material. Exams are not hard as long as you do weekly homework and ask your questions. She is caring and very helpful.
Im not a math person but this was by FAR the best math class I have taken and most caring professor I have had at Columbus state. She was involved in all her students and wants you to succeed. Actually answers your questions. Just keep up with her packets and show up to labs and your golden. If you slack, her assignments pile up fast.
i don't recommend her at all. this class is easy but she made it super difficult for students. she acts she cares about her students but if she does she won't make things difficult and confusing. i was forced to take this class with her for credits sadly. her labs are confusing and so are her tests. WORST teacher ever.
So glade that I finished this class and I wont have to take it again with this professor, this professor teaching style is the worst, she gives out the review paper for the test And you just have to do it on your own. She doesnt go over it at all. This class could of been easier with other professors. Not taking this professor what so ever.
She thinks 3.7 rating is actually a good rating for her but she dont know that this is horrible rating compared to other professors. I can see why now.
Not recommended period. she is way too picky when it comes down to grading test, she takes points off on the smallest mistakes you can make on the test, dont talk this thot if you want to get good grades.
I loved everything about her except that she was a picky grader. I would get one question wrong but would get the whole page wrong because of the one mistake on the exams. She responds so fast and really cares though. Email her as much as you want if you need help. I would take this class in person rather than online if I could redo it!
By far the best professor Ive ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and takes the time to make sure you understand. If you dont understand what shes teaching shes always willing to explain it in a different way. I absolutely recommend her!
This professor takes everything so serious, and she is so picky when she grades the test. I could of got an A in that class. All I have to say is life is not that serious Leslie and you need to relax and stop taking everything so strict and serious.
This class was hard but I feel like we were well prepared for everything. Her classes were clear and easy to follow if you were paying attention and she gave plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The practice homework and handouts prepare you for whats on the test. Overall I think she was great and I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
Not recommend this professor, there is a HW that you need to do every week to get credit for the lab. The HW was basically a waste of time because she didnt give us a grade for it and we had to do it to receive a grade on the lab, if you dont do the HM you wont get any credit for the lab, worst way to assign the assignment.
If you're on the fence about taking one of her classes, do it. Professor Smith is great. Yeah, you have work for your grade but this is college, not middle school.
Worst Stat professor every!!! Your going to hurt your GPA by taking this professor. Drop while you can!!
Professor Smith was one of the best professors I have ever had! Not only was she organized, she was easy to reach about any issues. She gives motivational tips weekly to ensure the students mindfulness. As long as you complete your weekly homework assignments, there is no reason that you cannot pass this class! I would 100% recommend!
An AMAZING teacher!!!!!!!! My favorite of all time! She is awesome and help me a lot!!! If you have questions; she will help, just email her!
Leslie Smith was super helpful for stats. Whenever I had questions, she always answered back quickly with helpful feedback. She also sometimes gives people a 2nd chance on an assignment. Would definitely take this class or a different class from this professor!
Its true she does help with any questions you have but she is very strict and takes everything so seriously. HW, quizzes and lab are too much and a wast of time. Over all, all stat professors at CSCC suck and you have no choice but to take her. Good luck!
Leslie is one of the best professors Ive had a CSCC. She responds very quickly and is very thorough. The workload is pretty heavy, but its a 4 credit class so that makes sense. Theres both a lab and quiz every week, but shes fair in that she drops the lowest quiz and lab grade at the end of the term. I thought Id fail my stats class but didnt
Excellent stats instructor! Helpful, encouraging, and very organized. She provides lots of online resources for learning the concepts and gives detailed feedback on weekly assignments. One of the best instructors I've had... especially for an online class.
Tough grader!!!
Excellent instructor! Her guided notes videos are easy to follow and she responds to emails quickly (often within a few minutes)! She truly cares about her students... even providing weekly motivators.
Highly recommend Leslie! She's organized, gives great feedback on assignments, and is quick to respond to emails. Her guided notes make it easy to understand weekly assignments and prepare for tests.
Guided notes and assignments were easy to understand. Instructor is quick to respond to emails and returns graded assignments quickly. I learned a lot in this class!!
the worst class ive ever taken :) the amount of work i had to do vs what i was getting back for it just simply isnt worth it. she has no sympathy and gives an unnecessary amount of work. pre-labs are the most bs things ive ever done and labs werent better, all for a mere 10pts. idk how yall givin good ratings, this class was he11
Excellent, caring professor! In addition to guided notes videos and lots of web materials (with no textbook cost), she offered weekly online zoom sessions that were really helpful. And she's really quick and helpful when answering emails. Great professor!!
Leslie was the BEST professor Ive had throughout my college career! She is very personable, easy to contact, and very clear with instructions. I found it very helpful that she was always just an email away, and responds quickly. I would 10/10 recommend to someone looking for a great stats professor.
Leslies course is set up very well organized and easy to use. The guided notes are easy to follow, as are the labs and test/quizzes. As someone not great with technology, she helped me learn the process of using excel. She is very personable and very helpful. I would defiantly recommend.
Leslie seems to have a bias towards some students. She will respond to some people's emails, and not others. She is extremely passive-aggressive and appears to focus more on catching students for academic dishonesty rather than ensuring her students are comprehending a unit. There is a huge time commitment for her class in regards to the workload.
Leslie is very quick to respond to emails and offers optional zoom sessions to assure that students understand the content. Leslie is very dedicated to helping students learn statistics.
Always available to answer questions! Personable, caring, and excellent teacher!
The tests make up 80% of your grade. You have to complete pre homework that you do not get graded on before you can do the Labs. Agreed with the comment that she tries to catch you in academic dishonestly. Questions on the test are not worded the same as your homework, so when its time for the test it feels like something you havent learned.
Leslie is truly the best math professor I've had. She makes statistics understandable and interesting ... just follow her weekly calendar and you'll do fine. If you want to learn statistics, Leslie is an amazing professor and really cares about her students!
Unfortunately quite a few students did cheat on one of the tests this semester... which made it tougher on the rest of us. You can't blame the professor for that. Leslie was great. She wrote the online course so all the materials are free. And she always provides helpful feedback so you can learn from your mistakes and answers emails quickly.
Leslie seems to be super nice and caring at first but as you get further into the course she only seems to care about cheating (even on the smallest of assignments). I have a friend taking calc 3 and his professor is 100x more chill than Leslie is for an entry level stats class.
Leslie's course is well organized with plenty of materials to help learn the content .. including guided notes videos. Very quick to respond to questions and provides helpful zoom sessions every week. Keep up with the weekly assignments and don't be afraid to ask questions and you'll do fine.
Great instructor! I learned a lot this semester!
Leslie is an excellent instructor!! She makes a hard subject easy to understand and is always willing answer questions. She is very down-to-earth and approachable.
Worst experience of my entire columbus state career so far. She is the ONLY teacher I've ever taken online that makes you come into campus to take your test proctored in person. When you sign up for an online class, that means you're taking the class online. The material was insanely difficult and the notes were't helpful. Awful experience
Her workload is unreasonable for what little points you get back for them. I've wasted so many nights on work that won't be graded just because its required to do before turning in a measly 10 point lab (which I also spend hours on), and she has the gall to tell us to just do them earlier ... as if I don't have other classes!
This class was by far the hardest I have taken during my 4 years at Columbus State. She does an extremely poor job at teaching the material and makes everything far more complicated than it should be. I had to basically teach myself so much because her way of teaching is basically unlearnable. Stay far far away from this instructor
Heavy on assignments with very inflexible deadlines even for an online course, regardless of what else you may have during the week. Tests graded harshly and feedback consists of very minimal mention of what areas you did poorly without showing how it was graded and why points got docked. Will accuse people of cheating even if you didn't.
Outstanding!! Highly recommend! Never have I ever had a professor that offers so many options to be helped, guided, and taught! Just send and email and receive a response within 30 min!!!
If you what she tells you to do, you will most likely get a good grade in the course. Her tests were a little difficult, and had to be in person. Just watch the videos, do a couple practice questions, finish the lab, and take the quiz, every week, you'll be fine. Also gives option to review your lab before you turn it in.
Every week there is a lab, practice for the lab, and a quiz along with notes. She is extremely helpful and answers all questions very quickly by email. Practice consistently and pay attention to small details in the content and you will do well on the tests. Overall she's very kind, helpful, and has a very organized course. I'd definitely recommend
Well organized web course with no cost for textbook. Guided notes and unit reviews were easy to understand. Leslie was quick to respond to questions and offered zoom sessions for extra help.
Overall, Leslie was super nice. She clearly wanted her students to do well. But with that being said, her class is sooooo test heavy and you have to into the testing center to take the exams (which is super annoying when you think your taking a fully online class). She is quite inflexible with extensions (but she does allow one per semester).
Overall a very nice professor, however the difficulty of the class was a bit rough. Taking the tests had to be at a testing center which I didn't mind, but was not aware of at first. Just make sure to do all the homework and also email her your labs to review before they are do, makes a great impression and she gives valuable feedback.
Follow the course calendar and ask questions as soon as you have them. Quick to answer emails and genuinely wants to help students learn.
Respect her but didn't really like the course. -tests in-person created a lot of extra work(p difficult) -excell labs weekly, major major pain -lectures not too long with async She was respectful but the class was a major draw each week. I spent like 10 hours studying for the final on the last day, wouldn't recommend lol. ~3-4hr/wk
I think I would have liked this professor better if I had her in person. Her online class was confusing, the online labs had many errors and at times directions were confusing. She is a tough grader and her weekly labs and quizzes brought my grade down a lot. Tests must be taken in the testing center, misleading if registering for an online class.
Prof. Smith was a nice person and caring individual in-person, but she just be doing the most with her assignments. The work that she had you do, like the pre-labs, notes, and homework, look almost nothing like the actual tests which makes up for the majority of your grade. Also having your students show calc keystrokes on tests makes no sense.
Great!! Organized and helpful prof. Guided notes were easy to follow and reviews were good practice for tests.
Leslie was always accessible outside of class. She offered to meet with me on Zoom multiple times and would always have a small group on with her at least once a week. If you finish you're labs quickly enough, she will check them for you. This class is definitely test-heavy. She is a very picky grader on her tests though.
This course is not practical if you are taking other courses or have a life. She expects a minimum of 20 hours dedicated to the course for 3 credit hours. This is a crazy expectation for an undergrad course. Homework everyday and you have to do it daily or you will get behind. Tests are worth all of the points and if you fail one you're screwed.
Lots of work, but the class is manageable. There are weekly quizzes, Excel Labs, and paper/pencil hw. It is essential that you understand the material in order to succeed in subsequent units. Video lectures were helpful. Tests at the Testing Center were inconvenient, but it's departmental policy. Professor Smith was very helpful and accessible.
Professor Smith was a good professor to me when I took her stats class. I had never used Excel before and almost every lab involved it so if you have never used Excel you may find this aspect difficult like I did. The class I took was online but she made us go in person for the midterms which wasn't fun but she is at least a very fair grader.
This professor focused on students grasping and understanding the material rather than putting them through mind-numbing lectures. Rather than taking notes during class, you are given a guided note packet to do before class. Also, all homework and reviews aren't taken for any credit, students can focus on practicing instead of meeting deadlines.
She gives a lot of resources for practice and the lectures cover everything you need to know for the midterms so you'll be prepared. The only part of this class that was tough was the Excel lab assignments. The content itself is easy but learning how to work excel and using the system was not fun at all. Overall, good Professor and an easy class.
Leslie does a great job of explaining difficult concepts to her students. She gives a guided notes packet to do before class, and then during class we review and you can ask questions on things that confused you/you want to review and she will re-explain the concept. Excel labs can sometimes be confusing, but she will always help you if asked.
guided notes over the weekend, everything is basically online. she doesnt care and moves on super quickly. makes you do assignments that arent even worth a grade.
Professor Smith provides her students with plenty of material to be successful for the quizzes each week as well as the tests over the units. As a student who never used Excel before, labs could be a little confusing but she always allowed students the opportunity to ask questions or to check their graphs the day before the lab was due.
she is a very caring and supportive person; she always encourages us to think positively. make sure you watched those guided note videos.
I took this class online and it was really good. There were notes and videos along with homework, labs, and quizzes. There are 4 tests overall and if you study and do the notes you will be fine.
Professor Smith is understanding and offers lots of support. The Excel labs can be tricky, but using unstuckstudy alongside the provided resources really helps. Overall, a manageable class if you stay on top of the work.
I really enjoyed this class. Laid back lessons/notes with guided notes packet, and she encouraged questions. Test reviews were really helpful!
She gives you nothing but a poorly written SoftChalk textbook in which you'll need to click a link for every section. She grades exams harshly; if you don't quote the book verbatim, she will deduct points just for that, even if your answer is correct. Avoid choosing her if at all possible. The way she grades, you'll likely never get an "A".
Wouldn't recommend taking online unless you are ok teaching yourself. Tests are done at the testing center and make up the make up 79% of the total class points. Theres no room for error on the labs and quizzes. Leslie is nice, but her feedback on exams isn't very helpful. 3 tests- 100pts, 1 final 200pts, weekly labs and quizzes each 10pts.
You must study like every single day leading up to the exams, I didn't study the last exam and it ruined my grade. hate that this class had weighted exams and absolutely no extra credit. Very hard class but she does help you when you need it. Would suggest using all the material to study and early checks on work to your advantage.
Overall she's a good professor and wants to see her students do well as she's active with trying to get you to zoom but when it comes to the labs and tests she's a harsh grader, she adds comments to your grade and almost makes you feel bad for not submitting the lab early for a pre check or not zooming with her.
Lol have never done one of these but when I say avoid this professor AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. Practically impossible to get a 10/10 on a lab also a very tough test grader makes you think if its even possible to get a 100%. She encourages students to make zoom sessions and pre check your lab but the cons with this professor heavily outweigh the pros.
Well organized web course and really prepared me for the next stat course at OSU… I feel so much further ahead than others after taking prof Smith's class. The course takes work, but it's worth the effort!
She's a very harsh grader, don't forget to do your pre-labs. She also offers to check your labs before you submit it for a grade, so definitely take advantage of that. Overall, she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed, but she is very strict.
Leslie cares about her students and legitimately wants you to succeed. Very accessible via email and Zoom if you have questions; very kind and understanding. That said, the class is hard and the tests are brutal. Lots of work and the final is cumulative. I think I'd have done better if it were an in-person class but I was happy to pass it at all.
