If you are going to take Psychology 101, take ANYBODY except Culver! He is the worst teacher that I have ever had-EVER! He is so boring and ****ed. He is a big dork and you will want to kill yourself within the first 5 minutes of class!
He definitely knows what he is talking about but if you are not interested in the subject, you will fail no doubt. Buy the course notes the first week of class so you can keep up! From what I've heard all the other psychology 101 teachers are SOOOO much easier so I would take someone else if you can
Beware!!!This man is the worst teaher at SLU. If you want to pass...take another teacher. He talks so fast and says so much that you have no idea what he is talking about when you leave the class. He is very boaring and his jokes and stories are not funny. His test are tricky and it is hard to f
He def. knows what he is talking about. My advice is if you do decide to take him although his other rating suck, get his notes from the bookstore or interent. The test come from those, he will go over what needs to be studied the day before the test. He isnt that bad....
HECK OF A NICE GUY... LOVES CARS... GOOD TEACHER JUST HARD AS CRAPOLA... KNOWS HIS CRAP
The day before the test he reviews the entire test just record his review. The first test I did not tape the review and scored an 84%. Then I realized that he reviews the test almost exactly, so I recorded and transcribed the tape, I scored a 96% on the 2nd test.
I got so tired of hearing the same boring jokes day in and day out! His tests are extremely difficult and he is hard to understand. Beware!

He took a potentially great class and ruined it completely. He's really monotonous, but gets all animate and excited when sex is mentioned. Knows his stuff, and expects you to know it, too. Cold and not very helpful. yuck.
This is a very hard class! If you want to get a good grade then I would advise you to either study really hard or get another professor. If I had to take the class again, I wouldn't choose Culver! Tests are hard, so be aware!
He gives you everything that is going to be on the test the day before during the review. I deffinately suggest taking him.
I don't know what those other people are talking about. He is a great teacher.Sure he gets very excited and makes funny noises when he talks about sex, but that doesn't stop him from doing his job.He knows what he is talking about, and gets his point across by refering to real life situations. He has lots of friends. He always says my friend did this..
I loved his class. If you buy his notes or print them from the internet you will be fine. EVERYTHING that is on the test comes from his notes. Also, the notes are useful because you don't have to write a lot in his class. I strongly recommend him.
Dr. Culver is funny, you just have to tap into his sense of humor. Everything else is alright, study for his tests and you'll be fine.
Did not like him. He had a strange/sick sense of humor. I had him for a night class... not many people enjoyed it. Didn't always stick to notes, I would take someone else instead if I had the choice. (Dr. Burstein is great-try him)
He is a beautiful man. He is brilliant! If you are a psycology major, take him he is impressive.
he is aweful. he makes the class a lot harder than it has to be. the only way i would suggest this teacher is if you have problems sleeping because he can put anybody to sleep.
He is a funny teacher, but his tests are hard. Don't take him if you're not a psychology major.
He is a HORRIBLE teacher! I failed his class completely, then I took Psyc 101 the next semester with a different teacher and I made an A. He is so boring! His tests are really hard! If your not a psyc major, take another teacher!
Dr. Culver is a great teacher, and makes class very interesting. not easy, but not hard either. buy the notes at the bookstore and you pretty much have the tests! if you make anything under a 'B', its no fault of his.

might be great for some people, but turned me off to psych forever. He should sell tapes of his voice to put little kids to sleep. he would be a smash hit.
I was in my third year of college as a psych major- until I took this class. I'd taken like 7 psych classes beforehand-straight a's- took him- changed my major. But don't take my word for it, because ever since I became a business major I stopped being an authority of psych. Beware...
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! RUN FAR FAR AWAY! I'M A STRAIGHT A STUDENT!
Dr. Culver was a good teacher. His class wasn't exactly easy, but it wasn't hard. If you take notes during the lecture, pay attention, go to the class when he reviews, and study for about an hour, you can get an A in his class. The way he talks does make you wanna go to sleep, but it's not that bad.
I am taking him now and i LOVE the class. If you print out his notes and jot a few things down here and there, the class is a breeze. Just be sure to go to the review class and he pretty much tells you what to study. Its not an EASY class but then again its not hard at all either.
Good teacher if you are interested in the subject. Never misses a class. Tests are pretty easy if you study and keep up with his notes. He has notes on reserve in the library or you may purchase them in the book store.
TEST WERE LONG AND HARD AND CLASS WAS BORING. NOT CLEAR AT ALL.
Absolutely the worst teacher in the world. I failed the class. I retook the class with a different teacher and passed with an A. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He was a hard teacher. He is a psychologist, so he goes way too much into detail and personal experience. There are a ton of notes for each test and the test are hard. You have to attend class, take good notes, and study a lot to do good in his class.
He gives you the notes, you can't beat that.
If you want to understand what your learning take someone else. He doesn't care to much for comeing in late or leaving before class is over. He also sells his notes at the bookstore. But he is hard to understand, goes to much into detail, he also talks to much about the people he comes in contact with. If you want to pass PSYC 101 take someone else
Did not teach very well at all
gives you all the notes but this class is very detailed. you have to really listen and just guess what might be on the test. tests are only 50 questions Multiple choice but they are NOT easy. Good luck if you have him.
I really enjoyed Dr. Culver's class. Yes, you must study your notes, but it's really not that hard. I don't find his voice boring and I love his stories about previous patients he's had. He's a brilliant, intelligent man and if you want to really learn something about Psych, TAKE HIM. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
This is the hardest psyc.teacher EVER!!!! I HATED HIS CLASS! I dropped him and got a W, and took another teacher. He goes into wayyy too much detail, and he tells you to study his notes...BUT THEY DONT HELP.. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NEVER EVER EVER TAKE THIS MAN .. OH YEAH, AND DID I MENTION HE HAS A MONOTONE VOICE AND IT WILL MAKE YOU GO INSANE! .
Dr. Culver's class is not easy. He gives you the notes in which you will be ever grateful for. He is willing to help you and clarify anything that you are confused about. You have to be paying attention to catch his weird sense of humor. Overall I have an A in his class, def. not easy. I had about 3-400 notecards for every test. Good teacher though
This professor is horrible. His classes are boring and slow and his thoughts are everywhere. He's very unorganized. He makes you buy his notes, in which I studied for 9 days ahead of time before the test and only made an 80. I'm an A student. I withdrew reluctantly. He won't help either. GOOD LUCK!
THIS TEACHER IS NOT SOMEONE YOU WOULD WANT TO TAKE. HE IS BORING, HIS TEST ARE HARD, AND HE DRIFTS OFF AND TALKS ABOUT EVERYTHING BUT WHAT HE IS SUPPOSED TOO. BEWARE...I AM A PSYCH MAJOR AND HE ALMOST DROVE ME INTO CHANGING MY MAJOR. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not think that he is that good of a teacher, the notes that he goes over is not on the test. He takes stuff from the book and puts that on the test, which he does not tell you about. i would not take him
I am very disappointed with this teachers. He does offer help, he does not stick to his notes on test. When listening to his audio's he just rambles on and on. Watch out anyone who takes this class...his test are DO NOT follow his notes.
Dr. Culver is not a instructor I would recommend to anyone. His test are hard. You are told the notes will be on the test, they are not, and he does not offer help in anyway. In his lectures he goes from one thing to another, it is very confusing. I recommend that YOU DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I have lost total interest and I have a 3.9 GPA.
Very cute and nerdy. Laughs at his own very corny (in a good way) jokes. Lots of real life stories about his patients to make the lectures interesting. Just pay attention and look in the book for reference. I never go to class and have an A. I love Dr. Culver.
He's horrible
He blabbers about pure nonsense! If you like to hear worthless stories, then take his class.
he is a bad teacher!!
He is a bad teacher. He doesn't try & get to know you. He rambles on about pointless stuff and he has this wierd fashination about sex. His test are hard and confusing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
never think about taking him the tests are rediculous and he's very boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This teacher should be teaching seniors only because he is so hard. Please never think about taking him the tests are rediculous and he's very boring! I tried to talk to him once and he talked to me like I was stupid because I didn't understand (and this was at the beginning of the semester).
he is very hard. he gives all the nothes the first day of class.. test are very difficult. i even studied and i never made above a 66.
RUN!Dr.Culver's tests are very difficult because he tries to trick you with True/False questions. I haven't made over a 70 on any of the tests. Everything he rambles about winds up relating to sex, somehow. It's kind of creepy and awkward. I wouldn't recommend him unless you're absolutely desperate.
Don't take him. If you have to take him, drop it. If you really really have to take him, don't expect above a B or C.... even if you're a straight A student who graduated at the top of his class.
I had no choice but to take Dr. Culver. He talks so quickly I finally stopped trying to write down what he is saying. He says important things too quickly, and he goes on and on about his patients (which are interesting, but they don't show up on the test). I wouldn't recommend him and especially not to freshmen.
He puts his notes on Blackboard at the beginning of the semester. If you print them out and highlight/underline key points, you will do fine. He goes over review materials the class period before the test. Study your notes and you'll definitely make an A in this course.
not near as hard as people make him out to be. and actually has some interesting stories. tells you exactly what will be on the tests, which are not very hard. go to class, take notes, and review before tests and you will do fine. i definitely recommend him.
Isn't too intersting, but his class wasn't that difficult. Just make sure you are there for review days.
If you print the notes out at the beginning of the semester there is no need for the book. He reviews before every exam, which is helpful. study a couple days before exam and you will pass.
Do not take his class!! His tests are hard unless you study hours for them! yeah he does review but he puts other stuff in there he never talked about!! take sarah sohr preston!!
RUNNNN! do not take this class this man is horrible and tests are extremely hard!
Gives you notes at beggining of semester. Teaches word for word from notes. Test derive from notes. Wonderful teacher, better than most psychology professors out there. You have to want to understand the subject to like it. Easy A
Pretty cool prof. Will teach no matter how many people come to class and does not care if you do come to class.
He loves what he teaches. Yet, he is too far above the knowledge level of a freshman. The other teachers are easier and I would have preferred one of them. The tests are made to trick you and I think that is wrong. He does review and then has surprise questions. I study a lot and still get B's. My normal grade is an A. Many students have dropped.
It's a lecture class. You highlight your notes and find an effective study method, you'll be fine. Test may be tricky if you do not cover all bases while studying, but generally they aren't bad. He's enthusiastic during lecture and doesn't even mention if you miss class. He's cool
terrible. slow to answer email and a waste of time. had a 79.8 in the class and refused to give me a B. dont take
He is terribleeee!! Do not take him
Take him online. He gives you all the notes at the beginning of the semester and you can highlight as you listen to the recordings. 1 midterm, 1 final, straight fm notes, 4 "questionairres". Final and exam are 100 multiple choice ea. and you get 2 hrs to take them online, so you can look at the notes till u find the answer. Boring but I like the A.
Dr. Culver has been a clinician/psychologist for twenty plus years. His intellectual level exceeds the average freshman. However, if you devise a study plan and prepare three weeks prior to his tests, you will be fine: A/B. I've met plenty of people that say he is too hard and tricky, the truth is that college is hard and is not for everyone.
Do not take him if you have the choice. He is very very hard. Barely anyone passed his class this semester and he doesn't give many grades so its hard to pull them up (only 4 tests and that's it). 64 pages of lecture notes which you have to read to understand what's going on. Not worth failing, take someone else.
I love this man!
DO NOT TAKE! Avoid if you have a short attention span and have a hard time keeping up with teachers who only lecture. He gives 70 pages of notes at the beginning of the semester and lectures are very hard to follow.
100% Internet. Lectures are on BB and I would download them to my ipod and listen as I commuted. They were boring but he stressed important points as he lectured. So far I have an A. He is slow to respond to email. 4- Projects which are really quizes on handouts-really easy. Overall listen to lectures and review - easy A/B
This man is brilliant. Not only is he funny, but he truly understands the subject. He is quick to answer questions in class, but through emails he has a tendency of being not as helpful. His tests are based EXACTLY off the huge handout of the entire course notes. He also tells you what will be on the test from the notes. Easy B / A if you try.
very intelligent man but it seems hard for him to explain things in "101" terms & speed. He starts to fly thru the material as the semester goes on, but will stop and explain almost nething if u ask. Doesn't know how to use TI-83 Calculator. 3 tests + Final are only grades. Has "study guide" day before test which is multiple choice.might recommend
I am a 4.0 student and this is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. He gives the notes on blackboard and barely refers to them during lecture. If you decide to take him, do it online--lectures consist of nothing more than his personal experiences as a psychologist and failed attempts to be funny.
Did NOT enjoy having him as a teacher at all. He was SO rude to his students and made everyone feel and look stupid to the class whenever they asked questions.. I didn't appreciate it AT ALL
I always looked forward to his class. He's funny and he makes his lectures interesting. He has a tendency to come off as rude to students who ask questions. Tests come straight from the notes, and he basically reads off of these notes in class, so attendance is not necessarily mandatory. I'd recommend him.
Great guy. Really good details. Just write notes. Kinda obnoxious but knows his stuff. Makes it fun.
Not only is he rude to students that ask questions, he is arrogant and doesn't allow any room for growth or learning. His tests are easy if you study the notes really well. He talks really fast during important parts of the lecture, and then drones on about his patients (which is interesting but irrelevant)DO NOT RECCOMEND!
Great teacher if you are a decent student. He knows his psychology. At the beginning of the semester, he posts all of the notes on blackboard. If you print them out and highlight the important stuff he goes over, you'll do just fine. Pay attention and start studying a few days or a week before the test, not the night before. I'd recommend him.
I was very annoyed by this professor. He said, "If you study the material like you are suppose to and come to class you will receive a B, you will only receive an A if you go the extra mile and make this class number one." First test I studied a week in advance for, made flash cards, thought I knew it front and back...I made a C. So I dropped him.
Do Not Take Test are 100 Questions and Hard Studied for both exams and could not pass because not enough time to answer 100 questions in 2 hrs
Had an 89.5% and he wouldn't give me an a. do not take.
If you follow Dr. Culver's notes, pay attention to his reviews before test. I would recommended him. Study, and you will be fine.
100% online. Posted his lecture notes on online. Covered the entire semester and were great for the tests. I just listened along and highlighted key points. Hard, but not a bad class. Put in the work and you'll do well.
So boring! Do not take him whatever you do. Went to every class and still struggled to get a high D.. I do not recommend him!his notes are a mess and there's only 4 tests.. Only thing that saved me was bonus points from the online experiments.
I do NOT recommend this teacher. He rambles on so fast you get lost. Doesn't focus on main point. Likes to ramble about his patients. Talks about serious life situations like they mean nothing which I know some people find very insulting. Expects that everyone knows his psychological terms. Very unhelpful in allowing enrichment/bonus.
Read your chapters and the notes he gives on the very first day of class, it's call effort. His lectures are great and the stories he tells relate to the issue. He gives extra credit, which doesn't have to wait to the last day of class, the four projects are extremely easy with ample time to complete them. I enjoyed the class!
Wonderful
The guy knows his psych but he use of vocabulary is very hard to understand, dont think he realized it was just a general class he acted like we were in in a graduate class
He knows his stuff...but has no clue how to relay it to non-majors. Gives entire semester's lecture online at beginning but they're hard to follow and unorganized as hell. Only 4 tests, all multiple choice 100 pts each to add up to 400 total. You're gonna need to study like it's a major class. Use flashcards!!!! And those notes
Do. Not. Take. This. Man. You can thank me later. The ONLY plus about him is that he basically goes over the test the day before, so if u have your notes u can highlight what he says. Other than that idk what's good. He knows his stuff, but he's hard to follow. If you love psychology go for it.
All you have to do is print his notes and pay attention to the lector the day before the exam. It's all handed to you, skipping lectures won't even affect you too much because its all straight from the notes you can print online. Extra credit options, I'd take him
DONT TAKE IF YOU WANNA KEEP YOUR GPA HIGH!
I know he has bad ratings for in-class, but his online is super easy. He posts lectures and reviews so you can listen along and his tests are online multiple choice directly from notes he posts. Very easy A if you take him online! I definitely recommend him!
Whatever you do, DO NOT take him unless you want to fail this class. He is boring in his lectures and his tests are ridiculously hard. I highly suggest taking someone else.
Okay I am an A/B student and I made a C in here all thanks to this fella! If you aren't very interested in this subject and you are very familar with it do not take this professor. He is very nice and knows his stuff which makes this basic 101 class very hard to comprehend. Test are very hard and dont reflect the notes that he has you print out.
His test are super hard. You have to answer 100 questions in two hours. That isn't easy. He does go over a week or few days before. But test are hard.
People who are complaining and saying the tests are hard are crazy. Tests are exactly from the notes, and they are exactly from what he goes over the day before. If you can't pass a test that is this direct and simple, then maybe you shouldn't have a major that requires this course. He can be boring but it's impossible to fail.
If you put in effort you will succeed if not, you'll fail. The first test I studied for a few days and got a B. The other tests I did not study and I got D's. Just don't be lazy as hell like me
As much as I enjoyed this man's bizarre lectures, I can't recommend him to anyone who wants a high grade. His tests were pretty difficult, and some of the test questions were poorly written and unclear. Still, I can't help but love Dr. Culver. He's definitely a goofball.
Very passionate about field. Gives full class notes at beginning of class via microsoft office. Must come to class for a review of what is on the test. 4 test total. Funny guy if you get his sense of humor. recommend for sure.
Tests are easy as long as you study a lot and pay attention in class. The tests are simple and are directly from notes he gives you and lecture. You MUST add to his notes. Not everything on the test is included on his set. Otherwise, I made it out with an A. It's definitely not impossible.
I am a psychology major with a 3.5 gpa and his class was hard! I took it online and all he did was post the audio to his lectures. He was unclear and just talked and talked. You just have to sit there and listen and take notes and it's so boring. His tests are 100 questions and a lot of the questions were even covered in his notes or lectures.
Had him as an advisor, so when I was assigned him for my professor, I was a bit intimidated, but he tries hard to make Psyc Statistics funny when he can. But he is not a very good teacher. He made finding the average confusing and that is not good when you are in such a difficult class. If you can get a different teacher, I would recommend it.
I am a straight A-B student and this guy is throwing off my GPA. His test are very difficult, he is very unclear with his explanations and his lectures are full of stuttering and pointless analogies. All in all, if there is another option for PHYC 101 take the alternate route because the average student will not make it out with higher than a C
If you don't study like crazy you won't do well on the exams. He is hard to hear and hard to pay attention to due to the fact that he is monotone. I would not reccomend him.
Dr. Culver may not be the easiest teacher, but you will learn so much about Psychology. He is open to student questions but his answer may not always be clear. In order to get an A, I had to study at least 3 days out of the week and review lesson frequently. If you have strong study habits, take his class.
Posts a 65 page word document containing entire course notes. Uploads audio file lectures that are all over an hour long. Has 4 25pt projects, 100 question midterm, 100 question final. Very tough tests to study for. Take a different professor if possible
He's a boring teacher. I zoned out a lot. All he does is talk to whole class period. If you don't study extra hard you won't pass his exams. I made a C on every exam and I studied like crazy. I wouldn't recommend.
I studied and am an A-B student and made a C. Veers of in lectures and super hard tests. Do not take him.
I had a 4.0 after 5 semesters as a microbiology major. This class ruined my 4.0. I got a very high B of 89.2 and when I went to talk to him about it he basically told me tough cookies and asked me to leave. There is no need to make a 101 course so difficult. Physics and Chemistry were easier than this class.
very EASY class.Test are straight from the notes you print out at the beginning of the semester. You MUST attend class and go to EVERY test review. He gives you everything you need to know. Has an odd sense of humor but overall he's okay. Also make sure you do the experimetrix assignments as soon as you can.Take this class. You wont regret it !
Culver gets off subject, isn't loud enough, not understandable. If you want a good grade do not get him
He's got lots of stories, they're usually pretty good
Well he posts the course on Moodle (64 pages) ... he reviews the test the class period before. Test are tough if you do not record his review.
He is a very intelligent man and knows his stuff but he is really just a terrible teacher. It's as if he's so smart that he can't dumb it down enough or explain the simple things clearly. He also doesn't seem to hold much respect for his students, even snapping at them when they ask a question. I stopped going to class and taught myself.
He's a very smart guy and tries very hard to keep you interested and make you laugh. He's not actually funny but I found myself laughing just because he tried so hard. Print out his notes but also use the book! Learn as much about the chapters as possible. His tests are very tough and confusing.
I am terrible at statistics so I dreaded this class, but thankfully I had awesome classmates who knew what they were doing and THEY taught the class. Culver teaches next to none, he does not teach you how to use the calculator and his reviews are a joke. If you take him make sure you have really smart classmates. He's really rude to his students.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Culver's class. He knows exactly what he's talking about in every lecture, and he has real world case examples to help you understand. I enjoyed his lectures, but some other students thought he was hard to understand or boring. In my opinion, he was very clear, and if you record his test reviews you will get an A no problem
I'll be honest, at first, I was completely overwhelmed by his teaching style. He will literally sit in front of you and speak (no power points or anything) and it's your job to keep up. If you have his notes, you WILL pass easily. His tests directly come from the notes. He's EXTREMELY smart. GREAT for someone wanting to go in the psych. field.
Boring! Just show up for the tests and get someone to sign roll for you. Could've did a lot better if I didn't play around the first half of the semester. Easy A or B if you ask me.
His lectures are SO long and SO boring. He talks throughout the whole class period with no powerpoints or any visual aids. He does give you all of his notes to print out at the beginning of the semester, so that's helpful. If you don't print the notes, you'll drown in his class. Tests come straight from the notes. I'd choose a different professor.
Pros: He truly enjoys giving his lectures and he's funny to listen to. All of his 4 tests are based on his notes. Missing his class won't make you fail his test. Tests are super easy and all multiple choice. Offers extra credit through psychology experiments. Cons: Lectures are one hour.
I find the class very interesting. The notes are all typed out, and he teaches straight from the notes. He does just lecture, no writing, visuals anything. He has interesting examples for everything
Studying for this class is the key. You have to studying and you can't just cram the night before if you want a good grade. The class before a test he reviews everything that will be on exam. That was very helpful. Ask questions if you have them. He doesn't mind helping his students.
This was one of the hardest classes I've taken. If you are not used to long lectures and actually studying . Do not take him . You won't pass
he types the notes for you so you don't do much in his class but listen.. he speaks so monotoned that you could easily fall asleep.
Its not too bad if you study but the class is really really really boring
Really hard
Dr. Culver'a class is all lectures and there are only 4 tests. If you're good and multiple choice and true/ false you will be fine. He does a very straight forward review 2 days before each test and all off his tests are strictly from his notes. He refers to the book for studies done by important people so I would suggest going over those too.
If you are bothered by speech quirks, please do not take him. I am severely bothered by his way of speaking, so much so that following his recorded lectures online was incredibly difficult. I would get frustrated because of him CONSTANTLY sniffling and coughing into the mic, and stalling out on words. His tests are based nearly 100% on lectures.
Do not take him for an online class. There is no communication what so ever. There are no weekly emails, not even monthly emails. I probably got about 5 emails from him the entire semester and this was an online class. You better be good a remembering dates because once something is closed that's it.
Doesn't care about students, not flexible with office hours and won't discuss anything unless you have an appointment.. he teaches from his notes.. and he expects you to know what he is talking about.. I will NEVER take his class again..!
He is very monotone. He gives reviews the class before the test. He was okay if you highlight the notes during review that he go over you would do good on the test.
Culver is very knowledgable. He just is not good at conveying that knowledge to students or helping us understand how the statistics relate to the real world. Basically you spend the class copying down formulas and equations that no one understands and trying to figure out how to work the calculator while he yammers in the background. Get a tutor.
I love Dr. Culver's lectures. I found them interesting and easy to listen to. His class inspired me to major in Psychology.
Lecture whole class. Lecture for a couple days then have a test. He's spastic and all over the place. Easy as long as you want to study everyday.
Very caring man. He gives you exactly whats on the test so go to class. He is not mean at all he wants you to pass. You just have to try.
Culver knows what he is talking about but he does a terrible job at conveying the information through his lectures. He is all over the place, I find it very difficult to follow along, and his tests are lecture based (which is basically just rambling). Good luck taking this class, I suggest studying everyday to pass, unless you understand his speech
Ladies and gents, I SINCERELY URGE YOU TO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is the T & the P in Trash professors!!! I promise you he does not care absolutely nothing about none of his students. Dont you DARE take him online!!! Completely avoid this professor and search for another psychology instructor you will thank me for this!!!
This class was so boring to sit through. He types his notes for you and puts the entire semester notes on moodle. His notes were confusing and had a lot of information you didnt need. He follows examples in the textbook but says his tests are strictly from his notes and lectures and not from the book.
DO NOT take Dr Culver unless you want to repeat psyc 101. He is very boring. He reads of a piece of paper and he tends to get off topic with the examples he use in class. Im always confused in class and I made a D on all four exams. His tests arent as similar as the notes and extra credit will not help your final grade. I repeat DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This class was the hardest out of the 5 classes I took this semester. I was completely lost during his lectures and it was very easy to find myself day dreaming. The extra credit was very useless. Unless you want to study everyday, PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
YALL PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS MANS CLASS. HE ONLY GIVES 4 exams after he lectures on and on for two weeks. He is boring and has a monotone voice which makes you very sleepy. Everyone in my class either failed or dropped it. He also has real off the wall personal examples. I am a psych major and he made me rethink it tbh. Knows the info cant teach!
Very nice man that knows what hes talking about, however, he doesnt know how to teach or put together a lesson that makes students understand. Almost everyone in my class struggled even with studying, extra credit and going to every class. If you didnt know psyc going in, then good luck.
DONT TAKE HIM! Culver has to be the worst professor at SLU. He posts the lecture outline on Moodle for the whole semester and its literally just random thoughts he has, most of which are irrelevant to the course. During class he reads straight from the outline. His class is so boring and he isn't helpful at all because the tests come from the book.
Easy class. Lectures can get boring but if you listen to them, you will do well on the tests.
gives a huge extra credit. lectures are posted online but all test answers can be found in the notes. the test were easy if you use the notes. 8 discussion boards and 4 projects that are super easy.
I took him online and it was easy. He has 8 discussion boards that are due across the semester that are super easy. 4 project quizzes that are easy as long as you use the notes. His midterm and final are a little hard but all answers can be found in the notes, so as long as you use those you will be fine. He also gives extra credit.
HE'S TERRIBLE, now obviously that's one of my attempts at humor. If you take his course, you will get that joke. He is a very dry humored, introverted instructor and that is what makes the class so enjoyable. Truly had a good time sitting in his lectures. As far as classwork goes, he is very lecture heavy and gives out a packet of the course notes.
Not very accessible. You will be on your own. Lectures are posted online to follow along with but they are very monotone so it's very hard to stay interested. The book is not helpful. Does not send emails. If you need guidance in the course, this is not the teacher for you.
Pretty hard class and is super lecture heavy. However, he does make it interesting with the jokes he makes during the lecture but they are pretty boring though. A lot of stuff needs to be done outside of class. However, its only just studying and doing some online surveys. Only hard part is studying, really.
Study your notes. Summarize/condense them. Every single question is right out of the study guide and he gives all semester material in bulk from the start. Read the notes he gives you for a better understanding. Taking notes (in my opinion) isn't necessary. He provides all info he will test on. He is NOT as difficult as rumored to be. Just try.
He posts all material that will be on the exams at the beginning of the semester. I took notes, but it wasn't necessary. If you can decipher and simplify the notes, the class will be manageable but it will require time, effort, and studying. Exams all multiple choice but some questions are slightly tricky. Know important people/contributors.
I took him online so all we had for work was mandatory enrichment surveys... along with discussion boards and 4 projects (like quizzes but super easy )... and the midterm and final... easy class if you actually look at the notes and watch the lectures
he is so bad it hurts. the worst prof ive had to date i would say never take this man unless you absolutely need too and even then i still would say avoid him at all cost
His lectures are the worst. He does not know how to actively engage with students enough to keep their attention for an extended period. While in his class, students just watch him read from the Psych book, which is useless because we have the textbook and could simply read it ourselves FROM HOME. I wouldn't retake him.
Dr. Culver is very knowledgeable and lectures-heavy. While he speaks the whole class time, he does allow time for questions and even offers to stay after class. He even would let us out early the majority of the time so we wouldn't get ahead of his other classes. I just wish he was a bit more organized with the course assignments/moodle.
easy, never had to attend class
Not a bad teacher, you just really have to listen to the lectures. It gets very boring, but he provides all of his notes so you can go back and look on your own time. There are only 4 tests all semester so it is stressful because you have to do good on them since there is no other grades to bring your grade up.
Very monotonous and boring, but easy. He sometimes gets off topic in his lectures, but he never gives any test questions that aren't already included in the notes. He also has a review lecture the class period before the test where he essentially tells you exactly what will be on the test. He is easy, but boring.
This is my second time taking Lester. I took him for Psychology 220 and this year for Psychology 221. He talks very monotone and it is hard for you to really grasp anything he really talks about. Though attendance is not mandatory for him, I suggest you still go, especially for Psych 221. Some tests he has things on there that you haven't learned.
Dr. Culver is very uninvolved. Lectures consist of him writing data on the board and expecting you to automatically know how to calculate the answers. He is willing to answer questions, but makes you feel like an idiot for asking. The only grades are the four tests. YouTube tutorials are much more useful than the book.
Mr culver is by far the worst professor I have taken. He is very vague in what he means and when you ask him a question he answers in the most useless way possible. If you know some things about psychology then you might be alright but if you don't you are definitely screwed. Do not take him I promise you will regret it if you do.
Terrible professor. Strictly lecture-based. He does offer extra credit with the enrichment policies, and that's probably the only reasoning why I passed his class. He only takes four grades and they are tests. Tests are multiple choice and true/false questions, but they're extremely difficult if you don't know the material by heart.
I took this course online, everything was posted on day 1 for the entire semester, which i like to go at my own pace so that was good. However, it was like he completely forgot about his online class. I've heard from him maybe 2 times, and doesn't always respond to emails.
Only 4 tests. every single class is a lecture from start to finish, but he is impossible to listen to. thankfully he posts all the notes at the beginning of the semester. make sure you read the syllabus for the song surveys and the revel instruction because he won't address that stuff in class.
Never take this professor!!! He is very hard to understand and for the most part, you have no idea what he is saying. Failed every one of his tests because his reviews are nothing like the tests. Hard to listen to and only 4 tests, nothing else in the grade book. Don't do it to yourself, and avoid him at all costs.
The most confusing man ever. Expect to teach your self for this entire class. He makes everything seem hard or difficult in reality, he's just a very bad teacher.
This professor never answer his emails when my class had a problem. We only had discussion forums, 4 quizzes, and 2 test. We failed every test because his lectures were terrible and study guides did not help. At the end of the semester he decided revel was apart of are grade and we were not aware, therefore we failed. Do not take
I have no idea how or why Professor Culver is getting such poor reviews! He is knowledgeable about Psychology and helpful. He reviewed for each test which helped SO MUCH! There was also a research paper which he touched base with every student about their progress and was willing to help. He is a great Psychology professor and a very kind man!
he's not very helpful at all. i asked him for clarification on our research proposal project and he just repeated what he had already said. So, he's not great at breaking stuff down. From the perspective of someone who has little experience with APA format and research proposals, this man did not help at all. 4 test and a paper, No Ex cred/pariti
Dr Culver's class was lecture heavy. But if you do the work, you will survive. I believe he doesn't realize he comes across in a demeaning tone at times. I think he means well.
Give Doc Culver a break lol! Ok, so he's very lecture heavy and a little monotonous, but Dr. Culver GIVES YOU the answers to the tests on the review beforehand. I highlighted each thing he mentioned on the review, and sure enough there it was on the exam. SO EASY to pass and even get a good grade.
Very monotone and reads straight from course notes. Vey tricky questions. Studied for a week straight and still got a 66% on an exam. 0/10
He is confusing when he speaks but he's very educated in pysc and really cares about it. Most people don't show up to class because it's so boring but it's necessary to pass. Nice guy but just doesn't communicate the information clearly.
I agree with one of the reviews, give Dr. Culver a break! He is an awesome professor, he can't help that he is VERY smart. Dr. Culver enjoyed how our class interacted and was excited to learn. Very awesome and you will pass if you simply pay attention, go to class, and stop listening to what others say about him.
